NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2019 Acura RDX. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.

I walked outside after work and the rear windshield was shattered. I work at a high school so I assumed it was an accident and after administration checked cameras from the entire day, nothing was founded. I googled the make and model of my car and saw it’s common to occur as a defect.
The contact owns a 2019 Acura RDX. The contact stated that after closing the hatchback of the vehicle, the contact's wife noticed that the rear window glass had shattered. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to TSB: 22-014 (Rear Windshield Glass Shattering); however, the VIN was not included in the TSB. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The contact was informed that there was no warranty on the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.
My rear windshield shattered in January 2025 while I was setting in the parking lot of a store. It was replaced in 1\6\2025. Today 12\8\25 my rear windshield shattered again while I was coming out of a store to my vehicle. I talked to the dealership as soon as it happened and they said that Acura knows about it but does not have a recall. So, I looked up about 2019 rear windshield shattering and there are more complaints about this issue, but nothing is being done, and this is dangerous issue because what would happen if I was driving and it shattered.
Was stationary in the drive thru line at McDonald's located at 1030 Largo Center Drive, Largo, MD, on Saturday December 6, 2025 around 10:30 pm. I heard a loud noise from the rear of the vehicle that sounded like a gunshot. I turned around, no gunshot, but the entire rear windshield had spontaneously shattered. The noise startled me, but because I was stationary, no issues, but if it had happened while driving, could have been an issue. There was no warning, messages, etc., just the loud noise when it shattered. Again, vehicle was sitting still, no contact with any other vehicles, or objects. Once I got home, parked in garage. Went online, and found out that this was not uncommon. Many incidents have been reported of windshields shattering spontaneously in 2019-2023 Acura RDX vehicles. There has not been a recall, but there is a technical service bulletin 22-014. My wife purchased this vehicle 5/31/2025.
I am reporting a second back windshield replacement. Acura has said they are aware of this but no recall has been issued. Windshield breaks suddenly for no reason
I got in my car yesterday to pull out of the driveway and heard the rear window wiper turn on. I then heard a cracking sound and noticed that the rear window was cracked and had a small hole near the wiper. The rear wiper moved again as I was turning it off and the hole got bigger and glass started to fall in the trunk. There was no impact to the rear windows that would have caused the damage. After researching online, I found the Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 22-014. I took the car to the dealer but they will not fix it since it is not under warranty. I cannot see out of my rear window now that it is cracked (other than the area where there is a hole).
Rear window randomly exploded while sitting in the driveway. Last driven 12 hours prior. Completely shattered with no impact.
On November 24, 2025, I remote started my car for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, I opened the driver's side door, pressed the tailgate button to open the tailgate, opened a rear door, and my rear windshield shattered. There was no impact and no accident.
On 11/19/2025, I opened my driver's side door and got in the drivers seat. When I closed the door my rear windshield shattered. The glass then began to cave in creating a hole. The problem is acknowledged by the manufacturer as outlined in NHTSA #: 10225484 (service bulletin). I called Spitzer Acura dealership in Pittsburgh who said I would need to call a glass company and they wouldn't cover it.
Today 11/18/25 I entered my car, closed driver door when back window shattered. This is the second time this has happened. I did not report the first time but after reading up on this I realized this is a recurring problem with Acura RDX.
Back window of 2019 Acura rdx just blew up. Sat in garage from mid day Wednesday and Sunday November 16th of November 2025, it just blew up.
On February 7, 2024 I called insurance and filed a claim for my vehicle that was sitting in my driveway at the time of the incident. Upon getting in my car, the rear windshield, which had no chips, breaks, lights, etc. imploded into my vehicle. They stated they believed this happened due to the defroster. It was repaired using insurance at a certified local glass repair shop. Today, 11/14/25 I was making a turn from a stopped position and yet again the rear window imploded into my vehicle. The rear window had no issues at the time of implosion and is parked safely inside a garage to prevent weather effects. This is a VERY clear safety issue as I have a car seat in my back seat that are all rear facing and the window has now imploded TWICE. Acura acknowledged this, and as provided so hasn't the NHSTA. But the safety concern is refusing to be fixed and I cannot continue to have a vehicle that the rear glass implodes within two years causing potential harm to children, and back seat passengers.
On Wednesday, November 5th, the rear glass on my 2019 Acura RDX spontaneously shattered without warning. I brought the vehicle to Safelite for repair; however, they were unable to assist due to the technical complexity of removing and replacing the glass. I then contacted an Acura dealership by phone and was advised that I may be required to replace the entire rear hatch, rather than just the glass. I have since learned that Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 22-014 acknowledges an issue affecting rear-glass failure, but it is limited to certain 2019–2020 models and VIN ranges. No recall has been issued, despite numerous reports of this same defect. Additionally, there is an ongoing class-action lawsuit related to this issue (Tyzcko & Zavareei LLP). I am submitting this complaint because Acura is refusing to repair or replace the shattered rear glass despite its being a known design defect. This failure represents a serious safety hazard, as occupants seated in the rear of the vehicle could be severely injured if the glass were to shatter while in motion. I believe Acura must be held responsible and required to issue a recall, as well as provide repair coverage, especially for vehicles now out of warranty. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this issue due to the clear safety concerns and growing number of similar incidents.
We have owned our 2019 Acura RDX for about 4 years. Roughly 2 years ago my wife called me panicked that the car had lost power and the check engine light was on as she was exiting the freeway. It was a rainy day, she had our kids in the car on the way to a soccer game. I called off work with an emergency, drove an hour to where she was and scanned the car. No codes popped up on my scanner, I started the vehicle and it seemed to run like normal, no check engine light. I had it towed to Honda of Gresham, OR and after a week or so they called and said they couldn't find anything wrong with our vehicle. I paid for a oil change, a tow and a dealer diagnostics and was told they could not find anything. $500 later no answers. Fast forward 2 years Oct 26th 2025 I was driving the RDX this time, in the rain on the freeway. Wife and kids in the car. Went to accelerate past a slow driver and the car went into limp mode. Check engine light flashing and limited to 40 mph or so, I put the hazards on as I was on a single lane bridge with traffic behind me. I pulled over after the bridge and turned the vehicle off. After 5 minutes or so I started the car again and everything seems fine, no check engine lights nothing seems off. I continued on down the freeway without any more incident. I started researching what is going on and find many many reports of this same thing. Acura has a tsb for a front mount intercooler as the fix, but when I took ours in for the stated problem they couldn't find a problem. This car looks beautiful, but it's a safety hazard on the freeway when moisture is present, we live in the PNW and it rains 7 months out of the year. I have owned 10-12 hondas in my lifetime and this 2019 Acura RDX is the worst. Absolutely a safety hazard to my family. Disappointed this will be the last Honda we buy.
Upon exiting my car, I heard a loud crashing sound. The rear windshield had completely shattered upon closing the driver side door and glass was everywhere. Had my rear windshield decided to spontaneously implode 5 minutes earlier while driving on the interstate, I most likely would have had a bad car accident. Acura has a service bulletin out regarding this, as it’s a known issue. They refuse to cover cost or do a recall on this known safety issue. Someone is going to get killed when their back windshield blows out driving and they think they’ve been shot. Absolutely terrible and irresponsible on Acura/Honda’s part.
While driving on a congested highway, my steering wheel lost power making it impossible to control the truck's steering. The truck spun around multiple times before crossing lanes of traffic and hitting a guardrail head on. Thankfully, others avoided hitting my vehicle which would have caused more serious injuries. As of yet, the issue hasn't been reproduced or confirmed. The insurance company will conduct the Inspection. There were no warning lamps, alerts or symptoms prior to the steering wheel losing power. The insurance company has possession of the truck.
Back window exploding while sitting for no reason at all
The contact owns a 2019 Acura RDX. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the rear windshield unexpectedly shattered immediately after opening the rear passenger’s door. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the failure was a known issue related to Technical Service Bulletin: 22-014. The dealer referred the contact to a windshield specialist for further assistance. The vehicle was taken to the windshield specialist, where the rear windshield was repaired but not diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.
The back windshield of my Acura RDX has broken on its own 3 times. Twice while it was parked and once while driving , no debris was found to show anything broke the window.
While driving in the rain, after an hour long drive home from Philadelphia back to Reading, taking [XXX] and [XXX], I accelerated my vehicle while going around 50 mph and immediately was faced with a blinking check engine light and lost the ability to accelerate. My Acura essentially went into, what others call, limp mode while in sport mode. I filled my car with 93 gas around 20 minutes before this. After losing acceleration, I pulled over on the highway and the check engine light disappeared. After which, I still was unable to accelerate after leaving the car in park. After I turned the car off and turned the car back on maybe 30 seconds later, I was then able to accelerate and found no issues afterwards. I was driving on a highway going at 65 - 70 MPH when the car completely stalled causing me to try to move across 3 lanes with the engine shut down. I could not start. Almost got rear ended by a semi. this happed a few times. I checked the trouble code and it pointed to fuel rail pressure too low. which means problem with the fuel pump. For some reason my VIN does not show a fuel pump recall. please help. VIN: [XXX] the trouble code fuel rail pressure too low p0087. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The back window burst randomly with no pressure. There are thousands of complaints in the facebook groups. The car was parked when this happened in
The vehicle should be included in the recall for similar makes and models with the same issue. I almost crashed on the freeway because my high fuel pressure pump stopped working.
An Acura dealership won't diagnose a rear windshield issue, and i contact twice the Acura corporate to express my concern and they told me to contact a different Acura dealership. My car rear windshield shattered twice since i bought it.
Completed 100,000-mile service work at the dealership, 1 month following the work, while driving, all engine codes went off and the car went into "limp mode". I was unable to drive at normal speeds while on a major highway and going through a busy intersection. After multiple assessments at the same dealership, a "software update", a replaced spark plug (that was previously replaced during service work a month prior), it was found to have a warped head gasket with coolant leaking into the engine. It has not been inspected by police or insurance agents. It has been inspected by Shottenkirk Acura of Huntsville (Alabama) and a secondary mechanic with the same findings of engine failure. This should not occur at 116,000 miles in a Honda motor!
On July 12, 2025 my husband, the driver, and myself, owner of the vehicle and passenger this day, were driving on the freeway at approximately 7:00am in the middle lanes of the freeway. Without any codes or warnings beforehand, we heard the car make alarming beeps and automatically loss all power to the engine while traveling at highway speeds. This situation put my husband and my lives at risk and in a dangerous situation as there was traffic on a busy freeway and lost all power to the vehicle and made even maneuvering off the freeway a dangerous action as we had no warning beforehand there was something wrong. My husband was able to get us safely out of harms way. After being diagnosed at a mechanic, it turns out this problem happened due to a cracked cylinder head and had no previous warnings of an issue and no warning lights on the vehicle alerting to a problem, I will have the cylinder head in my possession and the mechanic I took my vehicle stated it cannot be ruled out this could be a manufacturer’s or casting defect. I tried contacting Acura Corporation about this situation but was told that since I did not take it to a dealership and have a certified tech look at my vehicle, there will be no case and no type of remedy or reimbursement for this situation.
The contact owns a 2019 Acura RDX. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact attempted to use the horn however, the horn was inoperable. The contact stated that while attempting to engage the horn, the horn failed to function properly or make a sound. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that there were internal parts located in parts of the horn that needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 63,220.
The contact owns a 2019 Acura RDX. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked in the driveway the rear glass shattered. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the rear glass was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.
Purchased used 2019 RDX from Acura dealer in June 2025. Within the first 30 days of owning the RDX we noticed the Airbag Sensor for the front passenger seat would not recognize my 90 lb daughter seating in the seat and the air bag sensor would indicate the seat was empty, which would result in the airbag not deploying if we were in an accident. I took video of this happening and took my RDX into dealership for repair as we were still within the 30 day period for issues. The Acura dealership insisted they could not replicate the problem so it was fine. I again referred to the video and said we have seen proof of the issue. After much back and forth and the service manager telling me his large dog sometimes doesn't set off the sensor he agreed to call American Honda to send out an engineer to test. The engineer after running tests said seat is calibrated correctly no issue to fix, even if we wanted to pay to fix it ourselves they wouldn't fix the seat sensor because there is no issue to correct. I don't understand how a car that advertises a safety feature for anyone that weighs over 65lbs can expect me to continue to drive this vehicle when it has a proven faulty sensor. Obviously how they test the sensor is faulty as well. This is a huge safety issue for the 2019 RDX and a disappointing and shocking lack of response from Acura. We are now working to return the car to the dealership and I am sure we will have to fight to not pay extra costs that will occur with them buying it back.
This safety issue is the sunroof glass. I was driving when the sunroof glass exploded and shattered, without warning. The sunroof itself and the shade underneath were both closed. The shade is the only thing that kept the shattered glass from falling into the vehicle and onto me. If the shade had been open, the glass would have fallen on to me and any passengers, possibly causing injury or death. The sound of the explosion alone is enough to cause panic, stress and impaired driving, putting everyone on the road in danger. The shattered glass was blowing off of the vehicle and onto other vehicles behind and those traveling the other lane. The past few days have been extremely hot. That is the only outlier that I can pin point, that may have caused stress to the sunroof. The vehicle sits under a carport at home and when I'm at work it is parked in an open parking lot. I was driving home from work after making a few stops, again, on an extremely hot day, Monday, June 24, 2025. There have been record-breaking heat days during this week. As I looked at the exploded sunroof, I can tell that the the glass exploded out/up instead of anything pushing the glass down. I did not call the police. I did call Honda/Acura customer service to file a complaint. I filed an insurance claim; which is still going to cost me $1,000.00 deductible to repair. My insurance has referred me to Safelite Solutions. The vehicle is available to view now and until it's able to be repaired; which I'm working on now.
Rear glass shattered spontaneously when closing the driver door. Sharp glass was everywhere and is now coming out of the back when it is opened or closed. The problem has been confirmed via independent service center. There were no warning signs or symptoms prior to failure.
back rear shield shattered
I was driving in a rainstorm with my windshield wipers on. The wipers spasmed and then stopped. I tried several things, but the wipers would not work and I had to have the car towed to the dealership because it was not safe to drive in the rain. The inspection indicates that the windshield wiper motor has to be replaced. I looked and saw that there are several notices about this issue on Acura RDXs in my year and it's clearly a safety issue as it stopped while I was driving in the rain.
While traveling on the interstate during the earl morning of May 2, 2025 for roughly 40 miles, the center part of the tread came off completely, causing about $6000 in damage to our vehicle. Even after the tread came off, the tire stayed inflated. The tire had been on the vehilce for about 3 months with approximately 2000 miles on it. The police came to secure the scene while the Emergency Repair Service changed the tire. No police report was made and there were no injuries.
My husband, kids and I were headed home from dinner around 8:30 pm and the Sunroof randomly exploded. Nothing hit it at all.
Got into my car started it and the back window burst I might add it was not to cold out but the rear window wiper was on due to the rain sensor
I discovered the rear lift gate glass of my vehicle to be shattered while parked inside of my garage. There was no known external contact that impacted the glass. There is glass remaining inside of the door itself after the glass was replaced by Acura. This is an issue that is widespread on this model vehicle.
all maintenance performed at Acura. 6 weeks after the Transmission aged out of warranty dealer found metal shavings in Transmission oil. Car had only 60k miles. $13000 maintenance bill to fix.
On or about March 10, 2025, I brought my vehicle to Acura of Ocean in Ocean Township, NJ. My infotainment center was crackling continuously, and the screen was black, rendering my navigation system, radio, clock, and Apple CarPlay unusable. The constant crackling, with the screen downloading graphics, and various messages popping up, such as "check tuner" and "network connection lost," is a constant distraction and annoyance while driving. I have no choice but to use my iPhone, forcing me to take my eyes off the road. The dealer inspected the car and informed me that my amplifier and tuner had water damage from a leak on the tailgate top seal. I paid Acura $258.71 to have the seal replaced. I was told the seal caused the water damage and was given an estimate for $3339.09 to replace both components. I contacted Honda of America because I had learned of a recall of 2019 Acura RDXs for this precise problem. The case manager of Honda got back to me and informed me that Honda of America offered to pay all but $1366.93 to replace the components. I refused the offer because I do not see how I should be liable for any cost. It remains unclear why my VIN did not appear during the recall and why I received no notice of said recall. I strongly feel that Honda's offering me any money is an admission of responsibility/guilt for this problem. If there were no liability, Honda would have offered nothing. I hope to receive communication back from your agency advising what I should do in order to have Honda recognize and admit their error and make good on the repair. Thank you, and please help! Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The rear windshield glass is shattered or broken with no external impact.
on 2/20/2025 I was getting off work. Proceeded to get in my car and close my door. The back window just shattered and broke out of no where. I didn't know or understand what had just happen since I was not hit nothing was thrown at my car. Call Abington Acura dealership was told they were aware of the problem. I would have to go through my insurance company for the 1100.00 repair don't understand how I am liable for an issue that was cause on Acura's behalf.
Rear window shield shattered while the car is sitting in the park with no exterior impact. According to Acura there is a bulletin about this issue. Contacted the dealer they're manipulating this by charging customers...
Back rear window on 2019 Acura RDX ASpec trim, the glass unexpectedly shattered upon closing the driver side door. Glass and heating defrost element on back window is likely a manufacturer defect causing the unexpected window glass shattering.
The rear windshield has now spontaneously exploded twice out of no where. Most recent occurrence 2/20/25… previous occurrence in 2022
Rear glass exploded in my driveway. Sounded like a shotgun, just exploded by itself. Looks like alot of people have had this issue with this year Acura RDX from what I read online.
Rear window shatters without any warning can be extremely dangerous when happens while driving due to it sounding like a gunshot I can be severely distracting to driver causing the driver to lose control of vehicle or swerve into other lanes and injure other drivers. Incident occurred twice nice in November 2023 and a second time February 2025
Rear window blew out. Rear window shattered when we closed the drivers side door.
Rear window spontaneously shattered on a day I didn't operate the vehicle at all. The previous week was abnormally cold in Maryland, but the day of the incident it was mild in the 40s. The window shattered midmorning as the sun was shining on the rear of the car.
Rear windshield glass unexpectedly shattered while I started it up inside the garage
THE BACK WINDOW OF THE RDX RANDOMLY SHATTERED. I HAD JUST FINISHED PUMPING GAS, CLOSED THE DOOR, AND THE WINDOW SHATTERED. I HAD TO DRIVE HOME WITH A HOLE IN MY BACK WINDOW WITH GLASS FALLING AS I DROVE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD BECAUSE MY CAR'S WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED, I HAD TO PAY $1200, AND I HAD TO WAIT SIX DAYS BEFORE IT COULD BE FIXED. HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFEAT THAT HAS TO DO WITH THE DEFROST SYSTEM. THE DEALER NEVER LOOKED AT THE DAMAGE. I HAD TO GO THROUGH MY INSURANCE COMPANY. THERE WAS NO WARNING THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN. I HAD TO GO ONLINE TO GAIN KNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE WITH RDXs from 2019-2023. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PUT OUT ANY MONEY FOR WHAT IS AN ACURA DEFECT.
