UNRESOLVED ENGINE ISSUE. RECALL THAT THEY WILL NOT FIX. UNABLE TO TRADE IN VEHICLE ANYWHERE BECAUSE OF THE ACTIVE RECALL. FEEL TRAPPED IN AN UNSAFE 'FAMILY' CAR.
TAKATA RECALL I WAS NOTIFIED BY MY DEALERSHIP THAT MY AUDI Q5 CONTAINED FAULTY AIRBAGS THAT POSSIBLY COULD RESULT IN DEATH IF ACTIVATED IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS NOTIFICATION TOOK PLACE FIVE MONTHS AGO. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW EXACTLY HOW LONG I WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THESE AIRBAGS.
TAKATA RECALL I RECEIVED THE SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FROM AUDI IN APRIL 2016. I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE "PART WEREN'T AVAILABLE YET." IT IS NOW NOVEMBER 2016 AND WHEN CHECKING ON THIS AGAIN I AM TOLD THE PARTS STILL AREN'T AVAILABLE. I FIND THIS UNACCEPTABLE AND I WONDER WHY THE NHTSA DOESN'T FIND IT UNACCEPTABLE AS WELL. I CALLED AUDI CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THEY HAVE "NO IDEA WHEN THEY ARE GETTING REPLACEMENT PARTS FROM TAKATA." HOWEVER, AUDI IS OBVIOUSLY STILL MAKING THESE CARS AND SINCE THEY CAN FIND NEW AIRBAGS TO PUT IN NEW CARS, WHY ISN'T ANYONE PRESSURING THE MANUFACTURER TO FIX THE CARS THEY SOLD IN THE PAST BEFORE THEY USE THOSE PARTS ON NEW CARS!!! IT SEEMS THAT THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THIS SINCE TAKATA WILL BE LIABLE IF I DIE IN AN ACCIDENT. HOWEVER, I HOLD AUDI AND THE NHTSA RESPONSIBLE BECAUSE IT DOESN'T APPEAR THAT ANYONE CARES ABOUT PEOPLE THAT BOUGHT CARS A FEW YEARS AGO SINCE THE EXISTING SUPPLY OF GOOD AIRBAGS IS GOING INTO NEW CARS THAT HAVEN'T BEEN SOLD YET. I ALSO FIND IT ODD THAT IN THE PROGRESS TOWARDS COMPLETION REPORT ON YOUR WEBSITE, THERE IS NO DATA AT ALL FOR AUDI, WHICH MAKES ME THINK AUDI HAS DONE NOTHING TO EXPEDITE THIS RECALL WHILE ALL OF THEIR COMPETITORS HAVE. WHY DOES THE NHTSA ALLOW THIS? PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND RESPOND, I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT. I NOW HAVE TWO RECALLS FOR MY 2011 Q5, THE TAKATA AIRBAG AND NOW THE FUEL PUMP THAT COULD BLOW UP. SOUNDS LIKE I AM DRIVING A VERY DANGEROUS CAR AND NO ONE IS PRESSURING THE MANUFACTURER TO FIX EITHER ITEM.
TAKATA RECALL AFTER 10 MONTHS OF RECEIVING A RECALL NOTICE, THE TAKATA REPLACEMENT BAGS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE FROM FROMAUDI DEALER. I ALSO RECEIVED A RECALL IN NOVEMBER REGARDING FUEL PUMP FLANGE -- AFTER CALLING MY DEALER SEVERAL TIMES, I AM TOLD REPLACEMENT OFFERED BY RECALL NOTICE IS NOT AVAILABLE, MAY NOT BE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS - THIS IS FIRE HAZARD. AUDI LEAVES ME TO DRIVE A VEHICLE WITH 2 SERIOUS DEFECTS, WHICH THEY KNOW ABOUT, AND MAKE NO EFFORT TO DEAL WITH THE RECALL OR OFFER ME A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE. HOW CAN THIS BE ACCEPTED? *TR
AFTER MY Q5 HAS BEEN IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT 3 TIMES FOR THE SAME ISSUE BROKE DOWN ON A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY WITH MY SMALL CHILD ON BOARD. MY AUDI ADVISOR TOLD ME TO TRY TO BRING IT TO THE DEALER. WE DID NOT MAKE IT. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED. AFTER 2 WEEKS, I WAS ADVISED I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE AT THE COST OF $14,700. THIS IS AFTER IT HAD BEEN FIXED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE FOR THE SAME ISSUE. SECONDLY, IT HAS A RECALL THAT HAS BEEN PUBLISHED AND AUDI'S RESPONSE TO ME WAS THE RECALL REPAIR IS NOT AVAILABLE YET. THEY ARE HOWEVER ARE WORKING WITH TAKATA TO PRODUCE REPLACEMENT PARTS. SO, AGAIN THEY ARE JEOPARDIZING MINE AND MY FAMILIES SAFETY. AND THE OIL CONSUMPTION IS RIDICULOUS. NO VEHICLE SHOULD USE A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES. THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE COMPANY AND THEIR RESPONSES ARE ALL SCRIPTED.

THE CAR WAS PARKED AND ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER A PASSERBY CAME INTO THE RESTAURANT IN WHICH WE WERE DINING SAYING A GRAY AUDI WAS ON FIRE. OWNER OF RESTAURANT TRIED TO USE HANDHELD FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO THE FRONT GRILL. NO LUCK AS IT IMMEDIATELY MELTED THE HOOD AND ENGULFED THE WHOLE CAR IN FLAMES. TOOK FIREMEN 30 MINUTES TO PUT IT OUT. THEY HAD NO IDEA OF CAUSE BUT SPECULATED ELECTRICAL AS THE SOURCE.

VEHICLE IS BURNING AND CONSUMING OIL. I TAKE TO DEALER FOR OIL CHANGES AND LAST ONE INDICATED GREAT. EVERY 4 DAYS I HAVE TO PUT A QUART OF OIL IN THE TRUCK. I ONLY HAVE 67,000 MILES AND NO WARRANTY. I PURCHASED A CERTIFIED PREOWNED AUDI Q5 LAST MARCH 2013. THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING FINE. NO PROBLEMS OR CONCERNS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUDI DEALER IN FEBRUARY 2014 FOR AN ANNUAL SERVICE AND ALSO IN MARCH 2014 FOR MY YEARLY INSPECTION/EMISSIONS TESTING. ON APRIL 2014, I HAD LOSS THE VEHICLE DUE TO AN UNKNOWN FIRE THAT HAD STARTED IN THE CAR. YES, MY CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FIRE! PRIOR TO THIS FIRE, I HAD NO PROBLEMS OR MESSAGES ON MY DASHBOARD OR SMELLED SMOKE WHILE I HAD DROVE THE CAR. THE CAR WAS RUNNING FINE UP UNTIL THAT DAY. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAD INVESTIGATED THIS VEHICLE, AND THEY STATED THAT ARSON WAS NOT THE BLAME FOR THE FIRE. THEY R/O AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE THAT MIGHT OF BEEN THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAD ALSO RESEARCHED RECALLS AND MANUFACTURER DEFECTS, AND THEY CLAIMED THERE WERE NO ISSUES. I AM COMPLETELY STUNNED ABOUT THIS INCIDENT. THE CAR WAS PARKED ALL DAY, AND I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE OUT OF NOWHERE THAT THE CAR HAD CAUGHT ON FIRE. I'VE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, AND THEY ARE AS SHOCKED AS I AM ABOUT WHAT HAPPEN. LESS THAN 1 YR AFTER I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE, I BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH OIL CONSUMPTION. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY DID OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AND REPLACED CRANKCASE BREATHER VALVE AND FRONT MAIN SEAL & ECM UPDATE. HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION CONTINUED, DEALER STATED THAT IT WAS ACCEPTABLE AS LONG AS IT WAS 1200 OR MORE PER 1/4 QT OF OIL. I HAVE COMPLAINED SEVERAL TIMES AND DEALER SAYS IT IS NORMAL FOR THE CAR. NOW, I AM PAST MY WARRANTY AND THE CAR IS CONSUMING 1/4 QUART OIL TO 760 MILES. AFTER SOME RESEARCH ON INTERNET FOUND THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH THE OIL CONSUMPTION ON THIS VEHICLE AND THE AUTO MAKER IS NOT ADDRESSING THE ISSUE. OTHERS HAD PISTONS AND RINGS CHANGED TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. CURRENTLY, I AM SPENDING AN EXTRA $90 A MONTH ON OIL. I HAVE HAD MANY ISSUES WITH THIS CAR AND SEE THAT THIS MODEL YEAR IS RIDDLED WITH ISSUES. I ALSO HAD ISSUES WITH FUEL INJECTORS AFTER RECEIVING NOTICE THAT IT WAS HIGHLY UNLIKELY THAT MY CAR WOULD HAVE SUCH AN ISSUE AND AFTER 3 RETURNS TO THE DEALER THEY FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT WAS A FUEL INJECTION ISSUE AND REPLACED THEM. *TR
MY CAR (2011 AUDI Q5) ENGINE ABRUPTLY SHUT DOWN AT LOW SPEED TWICE ON THE SAME DAY, ONCE AT A STOP SIGN AND SECOND TIME WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE. ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO, THE CAR STOPPED WHILE TRYING TO PULL OUT OF A PARKING LOT AT SPEED OF ABOUT 10 MPH OR LESS. FUEL TANK WAS MORE THAN HALF FULL AND BATTERY IS GOOD TOO. CAR IS LESS THAN 3 YEARS OLD WITH SERVICE DATE STARTING MAY 2011. VAGCOM ANALYSIS WHEN CONNECTING THE CAR OBDI PORT TO MY LAPTOP INDICATES FAULT CODES 4732, 4735 AMONG SEVERAL OTHERS RELATING TO MISFIRING CYLINDERS AND FAULTS IN THE FUEL PUMP CIRCUIT/ELECTRONICS. A CURSORY SEARCH ON THE INTERNET INDICATES SEVERAL SUCH INCIDENTS WITH MANY OTHER CAR OWNERS WHERE THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO GET IT FIXED. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION IN WHICH CAR CAN COME TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND I HOPE AUDI TAKES LEADERSHIP IN PROACTIVELY SOLVING THIS PROBLEM BEFORE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT/INJURY HAPPENS TO SOMEONE. *TR
THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED WITH 20,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN BURNING OIL SINCE. THE CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY AND HAS GONE THROUGH THE MANUFACTURES OIL CONSUMPTION TEST, BOTH 1 AND 2 WHICH THEY ARE SAYING BARELY PASSED. THE CAR IS CONTINUING TO BURN OIL AND HAS GONE THROUGH PHASE 1 AGAIN FOR THE SECOND TIME AND AM BEING TOLD IT PASSED. AUDI STATES AN OIL CHANGE IS GOOD FOR 10,000 MILES AND HERE I AM AT 7,000 MILES HAVING TO PUT OIL IN IT AND TAKING MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP EVERY FEW MONTHS TO TEST IT. *TR
1. Q5 2.0 HAS A VERY HARSH DOWNSHIFT WHETHER IN AUTOMATIC MODE OR IN MANUAL/SPORTRONIC. SPECIALLY 4->3 AND 3->2 AND 2->1. AS A RESULT THE CAR COMES TO A STOP AND THEN JERK FORWARD AFTER THE STOP (2-1), CAUSING ACCIDENTS IN PARKING GARAGES SPECIALLY IN TIGHT SPOTS. AUDI HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE, APPLIED TSB-37-13-83 SOFTWARE UPDATE, EVEN REPLACED THE MECHATRONIC UNIT BUT THE HARSH JERKY DOWNSHIFT RETURNS. DEALER SAYS IT IS NOT A PROBLEM BUT A "CHARACTERISTIC" OF THIS CAR. ESCALATED TO AUDI OF AMERICA, AND THEY CONFIRM IT IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE AND THEY SAY THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 AUDI Q5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A LARGE QUANTITY OF OIL LEAKED AND CAUSED THE TIMING CHAIN TO FRACTURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENTIRE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REBUILT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 42,000. UPDATED 12/20/16*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE HAD TO BE REBUILT, DUE TO AN OIL LEAK. ALSO, AT 98,000 MILES THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE. AT APPROXIMATELY 6:00 PM THE EVENING OF FEBRUARY 10, 2013, I WAS RETURNING WITH MY MOM (FRONT PASSENGER) ON I-66E HEADED BACK HOME, A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED SUDDENLY BECAUSE A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER STOPPED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I ENGAGED MY BRAKES AND HAD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP WITHOUT TOUCHING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND THEN THE NEXT THING I KNOW I CAME IN CONTACT WITH HER BUMPER. WE THOUGHT INITIALLY WE HAD BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND, HOWEVER, AFTER INSPECTING MY REAR BUMPER THERE SEEMED TO BE NO INDICATION THAT HAD OCCURRED. EVEN THE DRIVER IN FRONT OF ME ACKNOWLEDGED THAT I WAS AT A STOP BEFORE COMING IN CONTACT WITH HER BUMPER. WHAT I BELIEVE OCCURRED HAS TO DO WITH THE AUDI BRAKING SYSTEM. I HAVE RAISED THIS PROBLEM OF THE BRAKES SKIPPING AND OTHER RELATED ISSUES ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WITH AUDI'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT, AUDI U.S./ GERMAN CORPORATE OFFICES AND AUDI "CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE" CENTER AND ACCORDING TO MY MAINTENANCE LOGS THEY HAVE PERFORMED A VARIETY OF CHECKS INCLUDING UPDATING THE SOFTWARE AND OTHER REPAIRS. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN REPEATEDLY TO THE AUDI DEALERSHIPS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT AND AFTER THIS INCIDENT FOR BRAKE AND GEAR ISSUES AMONGST OTHER PROBLEMS. I STILL CONTINUE TO HAVE SIMILAR ISSUES OF THE BRAKES NOT PROPERLY ENGAGING, A LOT OF CREAKING/GROANING NOISES/EXCESSIVE BREAK DUST FROM THE BRAKES AND WHEN I PLACE THE GEAR SHIFT FROM REVERSE INTO DRIVE IT JERKS FORWARD. AUDI HAS BEEN COMPLETELY UNHELPFUL AND HAS DONE NOTHING TO RESOLVE THE MATTERS SATISFACTORILY WHICH I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO DO SINCE SHORTLY AFTER THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT IN FEBRUARY. *TR
THE AUDI 2.0T ENGINE IS KNOWN TO HAVE ISSUES WITH SIGNIFICANT OIL CONSUMPTION. THE CAR HAS BEEN AT AUDI WITH THIS ISSUE SEVERAL TIMES. DURING OTHER SERVICE VISITS I HAVE MENTIONED TO THE AUDI DEALER THAT THE CAR BURNS A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000-1200 MILES. AUDI CLAIMS THAT THIS IS PART OF THE ENGINE DESIGN IN ORDER FOR IT TO GIVE BETTER FUEL ECONOMY. THIS IS CLEARLY NOT TRUE. I HAVE FRIENDS WITH AUDIS EQUIPPED WITH THE 2.0T ENGINE AND THEY HAVE ZERO OIL CONSUMPTION. THERE ARE MULTIPLE ONLINE BLOGS WITH OTHER AUDI OWNERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. IT IS CLEARLY SOMETHING THAT AUDI SHOULD BE FORCED TO ISSUE A RECALL TO RESOLVE THE MATTER. *TR

CAR WAS SOLD WITHOUT AN OIL DIP-STICK. THE SEQUENCE OF BUTTONS TO PUNCH TO BRING UP AN OIL-LEVEL READOUT RARELY WORKS. THIS IS A SAFETY DEFECT.
WIPERS DO NOT KEEP WINDSHIELD CLEAR IN WINTER SNOW AND ICE DRIVING CONDITIONS. WIPERS FREEZE UP AND DO NOT CLEAR WINDSHIELD, SERIOUSLY COMPROMISING VISIBILITY AND CAUSING DANGEROUS VEHICLE OPERATION. DESIGN IS PROPRIETARY AND AUDI DO NOT OFFER WINTER BLADES TO REMEDY THIS SITUATION. WHILE TAKING A LEFT TURN ACROSS TRAFFIC, THE AUDI Q5 3.2 TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. THE AUDI Q5 STOPPED AND WOULD NOT CONTINUE TO DRIVE. THE ENGINE SEEMED TO BE WORKING PROPERLY; HOWEVER, THE GEARS WOULD NOT ENGAGE AND THE CAR WOULD NOT DRIVE. THE AUDI Q5 DISPLAYED AN ERROR MESSAGE "GEARBOX MALFUNCTION; YOU CAN CONTINUE DRIVING (LIMITED FUNCTIONALITY)". AFTER REPEATEDLY RESTARTING THE AUDI Q5 AND ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION IT EVENTAULLY ENGAGED THE GEARS ALLOWING THE CAR TO BE DRIVEN OUT OF TRAFFIC.
