TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 BMW 325CI. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, SMOKE WAS PRESENT UNDER THE HOOD. UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE FOG LIGHTS. THE CONTACT LATER DISCOVERED THAT THE FOG LIGHTS, SIGNAL LIGHTS, HIGH BEAMS, AND PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE LIGHT WERE NOT OPERATING. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
I HAD MY AIRBAGS REPLACED BUT THE MAN SITTING IN THE SEAT IS ON WITH A AIRBACK IN HIS LAP I WAS TOLD THAT THE MRS CONTROL NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, AND AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THAT THE BAD AIRBAGS MAY HAVE CAUSED THIS ISSUE, I WANT TO KNOW IF BMW IS GOINN TO TAKE CARE OF THIS, BECAUSE NONE OF THE AIR BAGS WORK WITHOUT THE MRS MODULE I HAVE NO PROTECTION IF I AM IN AN ACCIDENT THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED OR AT LEAST BMW NEEDS TO PAY FOR HALF THE COST.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 BMW 325I. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE STRUCK THE CURB AND CAUSED THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (MOMENTUM BMW, 10002 SOUTHWEST FREEWAY, HOUSTON, TX, 855-645-6452). THE AIR BAG WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED PER AN UNKNOWN RECALL; THEREFORE, THE DEALER WOULD NOT REPAIR IT AGAIN FOR FREE. THE AIR BAG WAS NOT REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO RECEIVED A TAKATA SETTLEMENT NOTICE AND WAS REFERRED TO 833-619-7579. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 78,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2003 BMW 330CI. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE CONTACT SUFFERED A STROKE AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND THAT METAL FRAGMENTS STRUCK THE CONTACT IN THE MOUTH. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE MOUTH AND LOST A TOOTH. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A JUNK YARD. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V318000 (AIR BAGS) IN AUGUST OF 2017. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 146,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TAKATA RECALL: AIR BAGS WERE REPLACED ON 11/23/16. THE AIR BAG RED LIGHT INDICATOR REMAINED ON AND WAS NEVER RESET BY THE DEALER. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED SEVERAL TIMES TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE BUT NEVER RESOLVED THE ISSUE. TO THIS DAY THE LIGHT IS UNRESOLVED, STILL ON
TAKATA RECALL. AFTER CONTACTING BMW NEAREST DEALER THEY HAVE NOT TAKEN ANY ACTION TO TAKE CARE OF THE RECALL. THEY TOOK MY CAR INFORMATION AND SAID WHEN THE PARTS ARRIVE THEY WOULD CALL ME BACK.
TAKATA RECALL. AFTER WAITING 9 MONTHS FOR REPLACEMENT OF PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG I RECEIVED ANOTHER RECALL NOTICE FOR THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG. IT HAS NOW BEEN NEARLY 15 MONTHS AND NO REMEDY IN SIGHT . RECEIVED A " FINAL REMEDY AVAILABLE " LETTER DATED SEPT. 2016 ASKING THAT I CALL DEALER FOR REPAIR. CALLED LOCAL DEALER OCTOBER 10/16 AND WAS TOLD NO PARTS ARE AVAILABLE.I HAVE NOT HAD FULL USE OF MY VEHICLE FOR NEARLY 2 YEARS AND SEE NO REMEDY COMING ANYTIME SOON.
I'VE HAD THIS ISSUE FOR MANY YEARS NOW BUT NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT THE POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES. OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THESE ISSUES AS CAN BE FOUND WHEN DOING SEARCHES ON THE INTERNET. THIS PROBLEM INVOLVES THE DOOR NOT UNLOCKING AFTER BEING LOCKED VIA THE CENTER CONSOLE, KEY FOB, OR AUTO LOCK FEATURE WHEN VEHICLE IS MOBILE. THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED ACROSS MULTIPLE BUILD TYPES DURING THE EARLY 2000'S. THIS IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY IN AN ACCIDENT OR FIRE WHEN OCCUPANTS CANNOT SAFELY AND QUICKLY EXIT THE CAR WITHOUT HAVING THE BREAK THE WINDOW AND CLIMB OUT BECAUSE THE DOORS WILL NOT EVEN UNLOCK WHEN YOU PULL THE LATCH WHICH SHOULD DISENGAGE THE "LOCKED" STATE. I HAD GO TEND TO A PATIENT AT THE HOSPITAL TODAY FOR EMERGENCY SURGERY AND COULD NOT GET OUT OF MY CAR WITHOUT HAVING TO ROLL DOWN MY WINDOW, THEN USE MY KEY TO UNLOCK MY DOOR FROM THE LOCK CYLINDER ON THE OUTSIDE. HOWEVER I WAS UNABLE TO RETRIEVE ANYTHING ELSE FROM MY CAR AND HAD TO DO SO FROM THE DRIVER DOOR ONLY. THIS CAN BE LIFE THREATENING IN THE WRONG SITUATIONS. THIS INVOLVES THE GENERAL MODULE 5 OR "GM5" AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FOR A POTENTIAL SAFETY RECALL AS IT IS INTERMITTENT.
TAKATA RECALL - CALL THE DEALER ABOUT RECALL AND WAS TOLD I WOULD GET A CALL WHEN THE PART FOR THE JOBS WAS RECEIVED. IT'S BEEN MONTHS AND HAVE HEARD NOTHING FROM THE DEALERSHIP.

BMW RECALL NO 15V-318 DRIVERS AIRBAG AND 13V-172/14V-428. I KEEP GETTING ALARMING RECALL MESSAGES, BUT NO PARTS ARE AVAILABLE AT MY BMW DEALERSHIP. WHAT CAN I DO? THE LAST MESSAGE SAID THIS COULD CAUSE "SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH".
I SENT YOU MY FIRST COMPLAINT ON OR AROUND AUGUST 10, 2016, AND ONLY RECEIVED A 'THANK YOU' RETURN NOTE, AND THAT YOU WOULD GET BACK TO ME. YOU HAVE NOT! TO RECAPITULATE THE EARLIER COMPLAINT, I RECEIVED RECALL CAMPAIGN NO. 15V-318 IN JULY 2015, AND HAVE SINCE NOT RECEIVED ANYTHING FROM BMW. I CALLED BMW CUSTOMER RELATIONS AROUND AUGUST 4, TO FIND OUT THE STATUS OF THE AIRBAG REPLACEMENT. AFTER GETTING NO INFORMATION FROM THE FIRST CUSTOMER RELATIONS PERSON, I WAS CONNECTED TO A SUPERVISOR WHO ALSO GAVE ME NO INFORMATION. I ASKED WHEN I COULD EXPECT A AIRBAG REPLACEMENT - THEY TOLD ME 'PROBABLY BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR'. I TOLD THEM THIS WAS AN UNACCEPTABLE, DANGEROUS SITUATION, WITH THE SUPERVISOR'S RESPONSE THAT 'NOBODY HAD DIED IN A BMW OF AN AIRBAG INCIDENT'. WHILE IT IS GOOD NOBODY HAS DIED, THE RESPONSE WAS LESS THAN ACCEPTABLE. IT IS NOW A WEEK LATER, AUGUST 18 - AND STILL NO FURTHER RESPONSE FROM BMW OR FROM THE NHTSA. YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN WORKING THIS - IS IT SAFE TO DRIVE MY CAR OR NOT? ARE YOU ASKING OR WORKING WITH BMW TO RESOLVE THIS? DEAR SIRS: I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE (15V-318) IN JULY 2015, FOR THE FRONT, DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG RECALL FOR MY 2003 BMW 330I. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY ADDITIONAL CORRESPONDENCE FROM BMW OR ANYONE, TO PROVIDE STATUS. I CALLED BMWUSA, CUSTOMER SERVICE ON AUGUST 2, 2016 - I FIRST TALKED TO ANTHONY SMITH, WHO RECITED PRESCRIBED VERBAGE, THAT I WOULD BE CONTACTED ONCE REPLACEMENT AIRBAGS WERE RECEIVED. I ASKED WHEN - HE COULD ONLY SAY 'PROBABLY BEFORE THE END OF 2016'. I TOLD HIM BMW'S HANDLING OF THIS WAS LESS THAN ACCEPTABLE, AND ASKED TO TALK TO A SUPERVISOR - I WAS CONNECTED TO A PERSON NAMED COLE, WHO REFUSED THE COURTESY OF PROVIDING A LAST NAME, ONLY HIS EXTENSION OF X8917. I ASKED COLE WHEN I COULD EXPECT TO RECEIVE A REPLACEMENT AIRBAG; HE COULD NOT ANSWER THAT. I TOLD COLE I WAS DEEPLY UPSET FOR NOT RECEIVING ANY INFORMATION (AT ALL) FROM BMW SINCE JULY 2015, AND WAS DEEPLY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND THAT OF MY PASSENGERS. HE WOULD ONLY SAY THAT 'NO ONE HAD DIED' OF AN AIRBAG INCIDENT IN A BMW - YET, AND COULD OFFER NO OTHER OPTIONS OR COMFORT FOR ME. I WROTE AN EMAIL LETTER TO BMWUSA THAT SAME DAY, DETAILING WHAT I WROTE IN THIS NOTE, RECEIVING A NOTE BACK FROM BMWUSA (CORRESPONDENCE 1-7149508707), THANKING ME FOR MY WRITING THEM, AND THAT THEY HAD FORWARDED MY EMAIL TO COLE FOR REVIEW - AND OF COURSE I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM SINCE. ITS OBVIOUS THAT BMWUSA CUSTOMER RELATIONS GROUP IS LESS THAN COMPASSIONATE FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS. MY FRIENDS THAT WORK AT HONDA ARE TELLING ME TO 'GET OUT MY CAR', REGARDLESS OF WHAT BMW IS SAYING - THIS IS A DANGEROUS, UNACCEPTABLE RISK. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH BMW NORTH AMERICA & MY LOCAL DEALER FOR WELL OVER 1 YEAR ON MY DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG RECALL (AFTER A MULTI YEAR DELAY TO GET THE PASSENGER SIDE REPLACED), BUT STILL DO NOT HAVE ANY IDEA OF WHEN THEY WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. MOST RECENTLY, BMW [XXX] TOLD ME "REMEDY IS AVAILABLE" IN WRITING. I HAVE CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER & LEFT MESSAGES 3 TIMES, BUT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WILL NOT CALL ME BACK. THE SECRETARY FOR THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME WHILE LEAVING A MESSAGE I NEEDED TO COME TO THE DEALER TO ORDER THE RECALLED PART. I ASKED HOW THIS COULD BE CORRECT. I REALLY NEED TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP TO ORDER A PART FOR A RECALLED ITEM? BMW [XXX] NOW WILL NOT RETURN MY EMAILS. I HAVE ASKED MULTIPLE TIMES TO SIMPLY DISCONNECT THE POTENTIALLY DEADLY AIRBAG UNTIL A REPLACEMENT IS AVAILABLE, BUT THEY WILL NOT. Power windows Power windows broke on 3 windows. Sometimes the glass has shattered. Sometimes the glass just slides down and becomes non operational. Glass shattering has been scary and dangerous. This has occurred while driving. I live in a state with lots of weather. Thunderstorms. Has occurred with child in car seat during a thunderstorm. At highway speed. I have had them repaired at dealerships and at independent bmw repair shops. Cost has been approx $600. This began as early as 2010 and continues to this day.

AFTER BOTH REAR LATCHES WERE CONNECTED, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE LATCH FRACTURED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CHILD WAS NOT IN THE SAFETY SEAT AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. EVER SINCE THE TAKATA AIR BAG ALERT WAS ISSUED BY NHTSA AND BMW, I HAVE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH BMW NORTH AMERICA REPRESENTATIVE, [XXX] FOR INFORMATION REGARDING THE REPLACEMENT. AFTER MUCH DELAYS AND CORRESPONDENCE INCLUDING TELEPHONE CONVERSATIONS, ALMOST A YEAR AFTER FIRST NOTICE, SHE HAD A DEALER, CREVIER BMW TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE DRIVER SIDE TAKATA AIRBAG WITH ANOTHER TAKATA AIRBAG AS A TEMPORARY MEASURE UNTIL A CORRECT REPLACEMENT WAS AVAILABLE. TAKATA RECALL MY FAMILY DRIVES A 2003 BMW 330I. WE RECEIVED NOTICE OF THE AIRBAG RECALL OVER 6 MONTHS AGO, BUT THE DEALER STILL DOES NOT HAVE PARTS NEEDED FOR REPAIR. THERE HAS NOT BEEN AN INCIDENT, BUT I FEEL LIKE WE ARE DRIVING A TICKING BOMB. WHEN WILL BMW BE FORCED TO MAKE THESE REPAIRS?
THE ZKW XENON HEADLIGHTS HAVE A FLAW IN THE PLASTIC PROJECTOR HOUSING. THE HOUSING GETS TOO HOT AND MELTS AND THE LIGHT OUTPUT IS SEVERELY RESTRICTED. THIS HAPPENS TO 100% OF THE HEADLIGHTS MADE BY THIS MANUFACTURER AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE REFLECTIVE COATING ON THE HEADLIGHTS MELTS AND THE LIGHT CAN NO LONGER BE PROJECTED OUT CORRECTLY. THE FOG LIGHTS ARE NOW BRIGHTER THEN THE HEADLIGHTS. THE VEHICLE CAN NO LONGER BE SAFELY DRIVEN AT NIGHT. SPARE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AND THE ONLY FIX IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHTS AT A COST OF OVER $2000. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHTS AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE OF NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE.

THE FUEL PUMPS OF THE SUPER LOW EMISSION VEHICLES (SULEV) (PZEV) 325I MODELS (IN CA, ME, MA, NY AND VT) ARE ENCLOSED IN THE STAINLESS STEEL FUEL TANK AND THERE IS A KNOWN 100% FAILURE. BMW HAS A 15 YEAR/150K WARRANTY BUT I AM CONTACTING YOU BECAUSE MY CAR HAS 192K AND IS OUT OF WARRANTY. FOR KNOWN DEFECTIVE MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP OF THE FUEL PUMP, THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL OR AT LEAST NOTIFICATION TO THE OWNERS OF SUCH VEHICLES. IN MOST CASES, EVEN WHEN UNDER WARRANTY THE BMW DEALERSHIPS GAVE OWNERS DIFFICULTIES AND RESISTANCE WHEN THE FUEL PUMP FAILED, PARTICULARLY BECAUSE THE PART ALONE IS $6000, NOT INCLUDING LABOR. AS MANY OF THESE SULEV MODELS ARE STILL ON THE ROAD AND POTENTIALLY WOULD STOP RUNNING AT ANY POINT WHEN THE FUEL PUMP CLOGS OR GETS BLOCKED, THE DRIVERS ARE POTENTIALLY PLACED IN DANGER. MY 2003 325I DIED ON THE FREEWAY GOING 70MPH BUT FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MANEUVER TO THE SHOULDER. THIS COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED A MULTI-CAR ACCIDENT BUT FORTUNATELY THERE WEREN'T MANY OTHER CARS ON THE FREEWAY AT THE TIME. THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO BUT COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN AND IS BASICALLY DEAD IN THE WATER NOW. THE LOCAL BMW DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING SINCE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. AGAIN, ALTHOUGH THIS AFFECTS LATER MODEL SULEV CARS, I ASK YOU TO PLEASE OPEN AN INVESTIGATION, AS BMW SHOULD STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT AND REPUTATION BY REPAIRING A KNOWN DEFECTIVE PART THAT AFFECTED OR WILL AFFECT ALL SULEV MODELS. TYPICALLY THE FUEL PUMP FAILS PRIOR TO THE 150K MILEAGE, BUT APPARENTLY SINCE I RARELY ALLOW MY FUEL TANK TO GO BELOW A QUARTER TANK, I WAS ABLE TO GET AN ADDITIONAL 40K. REGARDLESS, I THINK A RECALL FOR THIS MAJOR DEFECT IS MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE REAR LAMP WHICH DID INITIATE A RECALL. BMW SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES AND I WILL NEVER EVEN THINK OF BUYING ANOTHER BMW EVER AGAIN.
AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY. RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE JUNE 2105, DEALER SAYS THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED PARTS. CAR WAS ORIGINALLY A CALIFORNIA CAR, IN NORTH CAROLINA SINCE 2015. WHEN WILL PARTS BE AVAILABLE?

DRIVING AT NIGHT HAS BECOME IMPOSSIBLE WITH OUT RISK. THE ZKW XENON HEADLIGHTS HAVE BECOME SO DIM THAT THE FOG LIGHTS NOW PROVIDE MORE ILLUMINATION. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN TRACED TO BURNED/DISCOLORED PLASTIC REFLECTOR BOWLS ON BOTH SIDES WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE BEING SLIGHTLY WORSE. AFTER RESEARCH IT APPEARS THIS PROBLEM IS WIDE SPREAD IN ZKW HEADLIGHTS. THERE ARE SEVERAL REPORTS HERE AND IT APPEARS BMW ALSO REALIZED THE PROBLEM AND HAD ZKW SWITCH TO METAL REFLECTOR BOWLS ON NEWER MODELS YET OFFER NO SOLUTION OTHER THAN BUY COMPLETE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY'S TO THE TUNE OF $1200 A SIDE. MIGHT A POSSIBLE RECALL MOTIVATE BMW TO AT LEAST OFFER THE INDIVIDUAL PART. I UNDERSTAND THE VEHICLE IS ALMOST 13 YEARS OLD BUT TO TREAT A BLATANT SAFETY ISSUE LIKE THIS IS RIDICULOUS. NHTSA PLEASE HELP SOLVE THIS SAFETY RELATED PROBLEM.
TAKATA RECALL - 15V318 IT HAS BEEN JUST OVER 7 MONTHS SINCE I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE FROM BMW FOR THE DRIVERS-SIDE AIRBAG RECALL. I HAVE BEEN ON A WAITING LIST SINCE IT CAME OUT, BUT THERE ARE STILL NO AVAILABLE PARTS. THERE ALSO IS NO INTERIM REMEDY. AT THIS POINT, I FEEL THE VEHICLE IS UNDRIVABLE DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF METAL FRAGMENTS COMING THROUGH THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG. THIS HAS CAUSED A LOT OF ISSUES WITH MY HOUSEHOLD, AND IS CAUSING UN-DUE WEAR ON MY OTHER VEHICLE, AS WELL AS COSTING MUCH MORE MONEY FOR THINGS LIKE FUEL AND MAINTENANCE. I AM HAVING TO DRIVE HUNDREDS OF EXTRA MILES EVERY WEEK, ALONG WITH HAVING TO JUMP THROUGH NUMEROUS SCHEDULING HOOPS. I ASKED ABOUT ANY KIND OF A LOANER/RENTAL CAR PROVIDED VIA BMW, AND I WAS TOLD NO, THERE IS NO SUCH THING. AFTER 7 MONTHS, THERE NEEDS TO BE SOME KIND OF RESOLUTION, EVEN IF IT IS A TEMPORARY ONE (ARE THERE TEMPORARY AIRBAGS OF SOME SORT? SOMETHING THAT MAKES THE CAR SAFE AGAIN, AT LEAST UNTIL THE PERMANENT PARTS COME IN?). EVEN WITH ALL OF THE ISSUES, I STILL FEEL I AM ONE OF THE "LUCKY FEW" WITH THIS RECALL THAT HAS A SECOND VEHICLE. I CAN NOT IMAGINE HOW THINGS WOULD WORK OUT IF THE ONLY CAR I HAD COULD SEND SHRAPNEL AT ME IN THE EVEN OF AN ACCIDENT. SOMETHING NEEDS TO HAPPEN. DRIVING THE CAR THE FRONT DRIVER WHEEL AXIAL SYSTEM FELL OFF WHERE THE BALL BEARING HELD THE WHEEL ON 3/4" BALL BEARINGS FELL OFF THE CAR, AND THE OTHER SIDE WAS READY TO FALL APART AS WELL I WAS DRIVING AND AS I TURNED INTO THE AUTO SHOP DRIVEWAY THE WHEEL FELL APART GOOD THING MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER WAS NOT DRIVING IT ON THE HIGHWAY OR EXPRESSWAY.
PURCHASE A 2003 BMW 325I ON 11-18-2016 . UNABLE TO TAKE POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER DUE TO THE OUTSTANDING TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL. THE DEALER IS NOT A BMW STORE AND I DON'T BLAME THEM FOR LETTING A CUSTOMER GET INTO A UNSAFE VEHICLE. BMW IS DRAGGING THEIR FEET ON THE REPAIR OF THESE DEFECTIVE AIRBAGS.
