THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO SUPPLY THE PART WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME FRAME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A TIME FRAME THAT THE PART WOULD BE SUPPLIED TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS NOT EXPERIENCING A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
TAKATA RECALL.
TAKATA RECALL - IN JULY 2015, I HAD THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG REPLACED PER THE BMW RECALL, HOWEVER, I WAS ALSO NOTIFIED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG WAS TO BE REPLACED BUT PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. MY CAR HAS BEEN LOCATED IN SW FLORDA FOR OVER 9 YRS AND AFTER REPEATED CALLS TO MY SARASOTA DEALER, STILL HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIED THAT PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. MY LAST CONTACT WITH THE DEALER DURING MARCH 2016, I WAS ADVISED THAT THE REPAIR IS STILL NOT AVAILABLE.
HID (XENON) HEADLIGHTS VERY DIM. CAN BARELY TELL THEY ARE ON WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. (THE FOG LIGHTS ARE MUCH BRIGHTER THAN THE HEADLIGHTS). CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES MANUFACTURED BY ZKW. THE REFLECTIVE MATERIAL DETERIORATES INSIDE THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY LEADING TO VERY POOR LIGHT OUTPUT. ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED OVER AND OVER. I GUESS IT'S NOT IMPORTANT ENOUGH UNTIL SOMEBODY DIES BECAUSE OF THE ISSUE, THAT IS IF THAT HASN'T ALREADY HAPPENED....THE RIDICULOUS COST OF FIXING THE ISSUE COMPOUNDS THE PROBLEM. SORRY I DON'T HAVE AN EXTRA $2,000.00 LAYING AROUND TO REPLACE MY DEFECTIVE HEADLIGHTS. COME ON BMW STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND FIX THE PROBLEM YOU'RE VERY WELL AWARE OF, PLEASE.

TAKATA RECALL-I FOUND OUT IN SEPT 2015 THAT MY CAR WAS PART OF THE AIRBAG RECALL. I CONTACTED HENDRICK BMW IN CHARLOTTE, NC TO HAVE THEM REPLACED. THEY TOLD ME BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER BAGS WERE RECALLED BUT THEY ONLY HAD THE PASSENGER AVAILABLE TO REPLACE. I'M NOT IN CHARLOTTE FULL TIME AND DO NOT DRIVE IT WHEN I'M AWAY. THEY SAID I WOULD BE CALLED WHEN IT WAS READY. DEC I CONTACTED THEM AGAIN, SAME STORY NO DRIVER. FEB CALLED BMW USA, THE AIR BAG SERVICE LIGHT HAD COME ON AND THE CAR IS A SPORT MODEL WITH LOW PROFILE TIRES THAT DRIVES LIKE A TANK AND SOME ELSE HAD JUST BEEN KILLED IN AN AIR BAG ACCIDENT. THEY FIRST SAID THEY WOULD ARRANGE FOR A LOANER, THEN BACKTRACKED AND OFFERED A "INTERIM REPLACEMENT" UNTIL THE "REAL" REPLACEMENT DRIVERS SIDE WAS AVAILABLE WHICH ALMOST 6 MONTHS SINCE MY FIRST CALL, NO ONE HAS ANY CLUE WHEN THEY WILL BE AVAILABLE. OK....A WEEK OR SO LATER GOT A CALL FROM BMW SAYING I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN A CALL FROM HENDRICK THAT THEY HAVE THE "INTERIM " BAG. I CALLED HENDRICK, AND WAS TOLD THEY ONLY HAVE THE PASSENGER SIDE, HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT, PUT ME IN A MANAGER VM THAT CUT OFF BEFORE I COULD LEAVE MESSAGE. I CALLED BMW BACK, LEFT A MESSAGE IN THAT TONE ONLY DOGS CAN HEAR, AND NOW SEVERAL WEEKS LATER NOT A WORD FROM ANYONE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 BMW 330I. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE HEAD LAMP BULBS WERE BURNED OUT AND A BURNING ODOR WAS DETECTED. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE HEAD LAMPS INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OR DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 99,000. UPDATED 05/10/16*LJ *TR
VEHICLE HAS VERY POOR HEADLIGHT VISIBILITY AT NIGHT DUE TO BURNT OUT PLASTIC REFLECTOR BOWLS FROM BMW'S SUB-SUPPLIER ZKW. REPLACEMENT BOWLS ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE FROM BMW. ONLY FIX FROM THEM IS REPLACING THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY WHICH COSTS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS.
IGNITION SYSTEM: VEHICLE WILL COMPLETELY STALLED WHILE IN MOTION AT LOW AND HIGH VELOCITY SPEED. HAD TO COMPLETELY TURN THE IGNITION TO OFF POSITION TO BE ABLE TO RESTART. I HAVE BEEN KEEPING TRACK ON HOW OFTEN THIS HAPPENS. SO FAR 11 TIMES SINCE OWNERSHIP.
THE ADAPTIVE BIXENON HEADLIGHTS USE BIODEGRADABLE WIRING. THIS WIRING CANNOT WITHSTAND THE HEADLIGHTS ADAPTIVE HEADLIGHT MOVEMENT. THESE WIRES CAN TEAR OR WORSE THE INSULATION CAN CRUMBLE OFF. THIS LEADS TO A HUGE FIRE RISK. FURTHERMORE, BMW DOES NOT HAVE ANY FORM OF FIXING THE PROBLEM. THEY ONLY SELL NEW HEADLIGHT UNITS THAT HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. TO BE CLEAR, NO INCIDENT OCCURRED TO CAUSE THIS ISSUE OTHER THAN STANDARD USE OF THE CAR. IT IS A TICKING TIME BOMB ON ALL CARS USING THIS WIRING, WHICH ALSO INCLUDES THE E60 M5 PLATFORM. THE RESULT IS HEADLIGHTS THAT CAN TURN OFF AT ANY TIME OR WORSE THEY CAN SHORT AND CAUSE A FIRE.

AIRBAG DEPLOYED WHEN HITTING POT HOLE AT AROUND 30MPH. THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH MANY E46'S THAT THE AIRBAG IS TOO SENSITIVE.
TAKATA RECALL: I AM CURRENTLY IN COMMUNICATION WITH STATE FARM AGENT, TERRY WOOD [(434) 872-2813]. SHE HAS ASSURED ME THAT AN INVESTIGATION IS UNDERWAY AT THIS TIME. WE ARE STATING THAT MY BMW'S SIDE AIRBAGS SUDDENLY DEPLOYED AND UNEXPECTEDLY CAUSING ME TO LOSE POWER STEERING AND BRAKING ABILITY. AS I APPROACHED AND ENTERED A RIGHT TURN LANE IN AN STREET INTERSECTION LOCATED IN STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA, MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAGS SUDDENLY DEPLOYED. STARTLED, I TRIED TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, BUT, WITH THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING, I WAS NOT ABLE TO SAFELY CONTROL THE VEHICLE. AFTER MAKING CONTACT WITH THE CURB, I HAD TO USE ALL MY STRENGTH TO CORRECT FROM IT AND TRY TO MAKE THE UPCOMING RIGHT TURN, BUT WITHOUT POWER STEERING, I WAS NOT ABLE TO MAKE THE TURN SHARP ENOUGH LEADING ME TO MAKE A WIDE TURN INTO THE ONCOMING LANE. AND WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO BRAKE PROPERLY AND SAFELY, THERE WAS NO WAY TO AVOID THE IMPACT. ADDITIONALLY, THE MAIN AREA OF THE CAR WITH ALL THE DAMAGE (DRIVER'S FRONT) FAILED TO DEPLOY THE APPROPRIATE AIRBAG. TERRY WOOD IS MY POINT OF CONTACT WITH THIS INVESTIGATION. WE HOPE TO HAVE BMW TAKE SOME (IF NOT, ALL) BLAME IN THE INCIDENT DUE TO FAULTY AIRBAGS AND/OR UNEXPECTED DEPLOYMENT OF AIRBAGS.
HEADLIGHTS NO LONGER ILLUMINATE DUE TO DETERIORATING HEADLIGHT MATERIAL CONSIDERED A DEFECT DUE TO INFERIOR PLASTIC USED WHEN ORIGINALLY MANUFACTURED. LOW ILLUMINATION LEVEL CREATES A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD TO DRIVER AND PUBLIC CAUSING SEVERE INJURIES AND DAMAGE. THE HIGH COST OF REPLACING THESE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES CANNOT BE BURDENED BY THE VEHICLE OWNERS. BASED ON MY RESEARCH THIS VEHICLE CONDITION HAS BEEN REPORTED ASKING THE GOVERNING ENTITIES TO TAKE ACTION BY RECALLING THE VEHICLE AND HAVING THE MANUFACTURER CORRECT THE DEFECT.
IN MAY 2015 AFTER LEARNING THAT MY CAR HAS A RECALL ON THE AIRBAGS I TOOK IT TO BMW OF BUENA PARK, CA. THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE THE AIRBAGS (BY THEN ONLY THE ONE FROM ONE SIDE) BECAUSE THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON. THEY WANTED ME TO PAY $180 TO DIAGNOSE THE AIRBAG LIGHT BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH THE RECALL REPAIR. I SPOKE TO A MANAGER AND ASKED HIM WHY THE CHARGE IF IT WAS (AT LEAST TO ME) OBVIOUS THAT THE LIGHT CAME ON BECAUSE OF THE FAULTY AIRBAGS. HE INSISTED THAT I HAD TO PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSE AND REFUSED TO FIX THE AIRBAG. NOW I REALIZE THAT THE AIRBAGS FROM BOTH SIDES ARE BEING RECALLED. I CONTACTED BMW AGAIN AND THEY ARE STILL REFUSING TO REPLACE THE AIRBAGS WITHOUT FIRST DIAGNOSING THE AIRBAG LIGHT. I TOLD THEM THAT THIS AIRBAG LIGHT APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THEIR VEHICLES. I HAVE FOUND MERCHANTS SELLING DEVICES ONLINE TO CIRCUMVENT THE SENSOR THAT IS SENDING THE ERRONEOUS SIGNAL TO THE CARS COMPUTER (HTTP://WWW.EBAY.COM/ITM/161310404862?_TRKSID=P2055119.M1438.L2649&SSPAGENAME=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT). I STILL HAVEN'T GOT ANY HELP FROM BMW.

I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE DATED JULY 2015 AND I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG REPLACED. BUT, SAN DIEGO AREA BMW DEALERS SAY THEY DON'T HAVE ANY REPLACEMENT PARTS. WHAT CAN I DO TO PROTECT MY SELF FROM A SHRAPNEL AIRBAG IN THE MEANTIME? HOW CAN I GET A REPLACEMENT AIRBAG AS SOON AS POSSIBLE? THANKS.
THE POWER DOOR LOCK ON PASSENGER SIDE CANNOT BE UNLOCKED EITHER VIA REMOTE OR INSIDE BUTTON. WORSE, OFTEN WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED EVEN BY PULLING ON THE HANDLE FROM THE INSIDE! A PASSENGER CANNOT GET OUT OF THE CAR VIA THE DOOR. FURTHERMORE, REPEATEDLY ATTEMPTS TO HAVE THIS FIXED ALL FAIL WITHIN A SHORT TIME.

THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TAKES A LONG TIME TO ENGAGE WHEN SHIFTED INTO DRIVE BUT ONCE IT GETS GOING, IT SHIFTS SMOOTHLY. I SPOKE TO A TECHNICIAN AND THERE IS NO KNOWN FIX FOR IT.

LIGHT OUTPUT FROM MY CAR IS EXTREMELY POOR CAUSING A SAFETY CONCERN. UPON INVESTIGATING WHY THE LIGHT OUTPUT IS SO POOR, I HAVE DETERMINED THAT LIKE MANY OTHERS THE LIGHTS FITTED INTO THIS 2004 BMW 330I ARE MANUFACTURED FOR BMW BY A COMPANY CALLED ZKW WHO USED PLASTIC FOR THE REFLECTOR LENSES FOR THE HID ASSEMBLIES. THIS PLASTIC DEGRADES AND BECOMES BURNT WHICH SIGNIFICANTLY DIMINISHES THE LIGHT OUTPUT, EVEN FROM NEW OEM BULBS THAT WERE INSTALLED IN THE CAR. A LIGHT METER INDICATES THAT THESE LIGHTS NOW HAVE LESS THAN 50% OF THE LIGHT OUTPUT OF THE SAME CAR USING LIGHTS MANUFACTURED BY AL THAT BMW ALSO USED ON THESE VEHICLES. LONGEVITY OF LIGHT OUTPUT AVAILABILITY THROUGH LIGHTING DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED A WEAR ITEM BY THE VEHICLE MAKER. THIS IS FOR THE SAFETY OF BOTH THE VEHICLE OWNER AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD WHO MAY BE SUBJECTED TO A CRASH CAUSED BY POOR VISIBILITY.
