I WAS NOT ABLE TO UNLOCK MY CAR WITH MY CAR KEY. I WAS ABLE TO HEAR THE CLICK SOUND ON PRESSING THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON THE KEY BUT NOTHING WAS HAPPENING. AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES CAR GOT UNLOCKED. NOW I'M HAVING THIS PROBLEM ON/OFF BASIS. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE LOCAL BMW DEALER. AFTER DIAGNOSE THEY SAID I HAVE A FAILED GENERAL MODULE WHICH WILL COST ME AROUND $1000. THIS IS WAY TOO MUCH FOR CAR FOR IT'S TOTAL VALUE OF AROUND $7000. THIS IS SCARY SINCE I'M NOT ABLE TO TRUST THE LOCKING SYSTEM ON MY CAR. SOMETIME I'M NOT ABLE TO LOCK AT ALL AND AT SOMETIME I'M NOT ABLE TO UNLOCK ANYTHING. *TR
I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE MONTHS AGO AND BMW HAS YET TO BE ABLE TO REPLACE AIRBAG!! I DRIVE ACROSS COUNTRY TWICE A YEAR AND HAVE ALREADY MADE THE TRIP ONCE SINCE THE RECALL NOTICE. WHAT CAN BE DONE TO GET BMW TO TAKE ACTION?? I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY STILL HAVE "NO PARTS AND A LONG BACKLOG OF PEOPLE WAITING" AFTER ALL THIS TIME. *TR

PURCHASED CAR USED. UPON DRIVING IT AT NIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME THE HEADLIGHTS WERE NOTICED TO BE VERY DIM. BULBS WERE CHECKED TO BE THE CORRECT WATTAGE AND COLOR TEMPERATURE. PLASTIC REFLECTOR DISH WAS SEEN TO BE BURNED OUT (NOT REFLECTING LIGHT FROM THE PORTION ABOVE THE BULB. *TR
I BROUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN FOR THE NATIONAL RECALL. WHEN I RECEIVED THE CAR BACK, THE AIR BAG WAS ON FOR THE FIRST TIME. THIS DEALER REFUSED TO FIX IT. I BROUGHT IT TO ANOTHER LOCATION, WHICH FIELDS ALSO OWNS, AND THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME TO DIAGNOSE THIS AFTER THEY SCREWED IT UP. WHAT A RACKET. IT SPECIFICALLY STATES THE OWNER NOT BE CHARGED FOR THIS REPAIR.
REAR SPRING BROKE! COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT A SPRING COULD BRAKE. I LOOKED UP ON THE INTERNET TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM AND WAS AMAZED THAT THE INTERNET IS FULL OF COMPLAINTS. A BROKEN SPRING CAUSES HANDLING PROBLEMS AND CAN CAUSE THE CAR TO GO OUT OF CONTROL CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT BMW KNOWS OF THE ISSUE AND THE FAULTY DESIGN. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT A CAR COMPANY THAT CHARGES SO MUCH FOR A CAR WOULD NOT OWN UP TOO SUCH A LARGE PROBLEM AND RECALL ALL OF THE AFFECTED CARS. PLEASE HELP US. *TR
THE LOW BEAMS ON MY 2004 BMW 330I ARE VERY DIM. THEY BARELY LIGHT UP THE ROAD AT NIGHT, IF AT ALL. MY ONLY OPTION IS TO TURN ON MY HIGH BEAMS, BUT THEN I RISK BLINDING INCOMING TRAFFIC. I CONSIDER THIS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY RISK. THROUGH ONLINE RESEARCH I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE BOWLS BMW USED TO REFLECT THE LIGHT FROM THE BULBS ARE MADE OF PLASTIC AND GET BURNT FROM THE HEAT OF THE BULB. DUE TO THIS FACT, I BELIEVE BMW SHOULD HAVE A RECALL FOR THE HEADLIGHTS OF E46 CARS. I DO NOT THINK I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO FIX SOMETHING THAT IS A FACTORY DEFECT. *TR

ALTHOUGH I HAVE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR PASSENGER AIRBAG, THE HAS NOT CALLED WITH PARTS AVAILABILITY. SINCE THIS FAULT CAN CAUSE FATAL INJURIES IN CASE OF AN AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT, THERE SHOULD BE NO DELAYS, OR THE DEALER SHOULD OFFER TO DISABLE THE BAG IF PARTS ARE DELAYED. SINCE I AM TOLD THAT CARS IN THE SOUTHERN U.S. WILL BE REPAIRED FIRST DUE THEIR USE IN HUMID CONDITIONS, MINE WILL BE DELAYED. IN FACT MY CAR WAS SOLD AND USED IN MEMPHIS TENN. PRIOR TO MY ACQUISITION, NOTORIOUSLY HOT AND HUMID STATE. AIRBAG IGNITER DECAY LIKELY OCCURRED. I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT THE DEALERS OFFER TO DISABLE THE POTENTIALLY FATAL BAGS IF THEY CANNOT PROMPTLY REPAIR THEM. THANK YOU *TR

I RECEIVED 2 NOTICES BY MAIL TO CONTACT THE BMW DEALER TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG AND WAS TOLD, DON'T CALL US WE'LL CALLYOU. THAT WAS 6 MONTHS AGO AND I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THE LOCAL BMW DEALER, "FIELD'S BMW." THREE MONTHS AGO I CALLED AGAIN AND THEY SAID THEY ARE ON BACK ORDER. I CAN'T TAKE A PASSENGER WITH ME AND FLORIDAIS SUPPOSED TO HAVE PRIORITY FOR REPLACEMENT.
THERE ARE 2 OPEN RECALLS FOR AIRBAGS. BMW REFUSES TO ORDER PARTS (EVEN THOUGH THEY SENT ME A LETTER) UNLESS I BRING THE CAR TO A DEALER (130 MILES ROUND TRIP) FOR A 5 MINUTE "INSPECTION". THEY WILL THEN ORDER THE PARTS AND I WILL HAVE TO RETURN AGAIN (ANOTHER 130 MILE ROUND TRIP) TO HAVE THE WORK DONE. THEY ARE NICE ENOUGH TO OFFER A RENTAL CAR AT $35 A DAY BUT CAN'T TELL ME HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE. I BELIEVE THAT BMW IS INTENTIONALLY CREATING THIS "INSPECTION" OBSTACLE REQUIRING 2 TRIPS TO DISCOURAGE PEOPLE FROM HAVING THE WORK DONE. SHAMEFUL.

THE HEATING ELEMENT ON MY 2004 BMW X3 CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I DON'T USE IT OFTEN, BUT HAD NOTICED A HOT SMELL WHEN I DID USE IT AND THAT IT WOULD BE TOO WARM IN THE LUMBAR AND HIP REGION. THE FIRE ACTUALLY BURNED ABOUT A DIME SIZE HOLE IN THE DRIVER SIDE LEFT SEAT PANEL (UNDER THE THIGH). AFTER READING OF MANY OTHERS HAVING THE SAME OR WORSE EXPERIENCES, I AM GLAD I IMMEDIATELY SHUT IF OFF, ALTHOUGH IT STILL BURNED ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE LEATHER. PLEASE ADVISE ME OF NEXT STEPS I SHOULD TAKE. I HAVE SHUT OFF THE HEATER AND WILL NO LONGER USE IT. WITH SO MANY COMPLAINTS, I WOULD THINK THIS WOULD RESULT IN A RECALL. THANKS FOR YOUR ADVICE. *TR
THE CAR IS SUBJECT TO TWO RECALLS. I HAVE BEEN CALLING BMW FOR OVER A YEAR TRYING TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUES. BMW SAYS NO PARTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE JULY 2015 RECALL 15V318 UNLESS I BRING THE CAR FOR INSPECTION. MAKES NO SENSE. BMW HAS ALSO BEEN OBSTRUCTIONIST ON THE 2014 RECALL 14V426. I LIVE 60 MILES AWAY FROM THE DEALER. 1. THEY REFUSE TO ORDER PARTS FOR THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG RECALL UNLESS I COME IN FOR A 5 MINUTE "INSPECTION" FIRST (120 MILES ROUND TRIP). 2. ONLY AFTER THE INSPECTION, THEY WILL ORDER PARTS; THIS REQUESTS A SECOND TRIP (120 MILES) BECAUSE REPAIRS CAN TAKE UP TO 6 HOURS AND THEY CAN'T GUARANTEE WHEN PARTS FOR BOTH RECALLS WILL BE READY 3. THEY REFUSE TO PROVIDE A LOANER CAR OR A DEFINITE TIME FRAME FOR THE REPAIRS AND SUGGEST I RENT A CAR FOR UP TO A WEEK. THIS WOULD REQUIRE 3 TRIPS (360 MILES PLUS GAS AND TOLLS) AND UP TO 7 DAYS RENTAL AT $35/DAY PLUS TAX, GAS AND TOLLS ($250). SEEMS TOTALLY UNREASONABLE. MEANWHILE, I HAVE A CAR WITH TWO POTENTIAL DEADLY DEFECTS. BMW APPEARS TO BE INTENTIONALLY OBSTRUCTION OWNERS FROM EFFECTING THE REPAIRS BY CREATING AN ARTIFICIAL INSPECTION REQUIREMENT WHICH REQUIRES AT LEAST ON EXTRA TRIP TO A DEALER. OUTRAGEOUS!
I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE DATED SEPTEMBER 2014 FROM BMW REGARDING A DEFECT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG. I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER IN FT MYERS FL ON 10/28/14 TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT TO GET THE REPAIR DONE. I WAS TOLD THE PART WAS OUT OF STOCK AND ASKED TO LEAVE MY NAME AND PHONE NUMBER AND I WOULD RECEIVE A CALL WHEN IT BECAME AVAILABLE. SINCE I DID NOT HEAR FROM THE DEALER I DECIDED TO FOLLOW UP AND CALLED THEM ON JANUARY 8, 2015. I WAS TOLD THE PART WAS OUT OF STOCK. THE WOMAN SAID THEY ONLY RECEIVE SMALL QUANTITIES AT A TIME. AGAIN, I WAS ASKED TO LEAVE MY NAME AND PHONE NUMBER AND WOULD BE CALLED WHEN THE PART WAS RESTOCKED. HOW CAN BMW SEND OUT A RECALL NOTICE ASKING YOU TO CALL IMMEDIATELY TO HAVE THE NECESSARY REPAIR PERFORMED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE WHEN THEY DON'T SUPPLY THE DEALER WITH THE PART? I EXPECTED MORE FROM BMW. I CERTAINLY HOPE THEY DO SOMETHING TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM AND EXPEDITE THE REPAIR! *TR
DURING A 2-CAR COLLISION AT APPROXIMATELY 30MPH, THE FOLD-DOWN SEAT LATCHES FAILED TO KEEP THE REAR SEAT BACKS FROM OPENING, AND FOUR SCUBA TANKS CAME INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AS A RESULT. FORTUNATELY, THE REAR SEAT WAS UNOCCUPIED AND THE TANKS STAYED IN THE REAR OF THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT, SO NO INJURY RESULTED FROM THIS INCURSION INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT, BUT THIS IS NONETHELESS A SERIOUS SAFETY FLAW. THIS VEHICLE WAS STRUCK FROM THE LEFT SIDE JUST BEHIND THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE, AND THE CONTACT WITH THE CAR STRIKING IT TRAVELED REARWARD FROM THAT FIRST POINT OF IMPACT, TRAVERSING THE DRIVER'S DOOR AND A SMALL PART OF THE REAR DOOR (UNDER THE B-PILLAR) BEFORE THE CARS SEPARATED. THIS VEHICLE WAS UNDER HEAVY BRAKING AT THE TIME OF THE COLLISION, AND REMAINED UNDER HEAVY BRAKING (ABS FULLY ENGAGED) UNTIL THE CARS SEPARATED AND THIS ONE CAME TO A STOP. *TR
THE INTERNAL WIRING IN THE ADAPTIVE BI-XENON HEADLIGHTS GETS BRITTLE AND CRACKS WITH THE RISK OF SHORT CIRCUITS, POTENTIAL FIRE AND HEADLIGHT FAILURE. *TR
WIRE LOOSING COATING ON INSIDE OF ADAPTIVE HEADLIGHTS, CAUSING SHORTS OR BROKEN WIRES WHERE THE HEADLIGHTS AND OR TURN SIGNALS WILL FAIL TO WORK. WIRE IS VERY BRITTLE AS THIS IS ALSO ROUGHLY 20 GAUGE WIRE. THIS CAN BE AN EXTREME HAZARD ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT. THIS SEEMS TO BE AFFECTING BMW'S 3/5/6/ SERIES FROM AT LEAST 2004 TO 2008 FROM MY INDEPENDENT RESEARCH. MANY PICTURES AND COMPLAINTS ON VARIOUS BMW FORUMS TO DOCUMENT THIS PROBLEM. MY PROBLEM OCCURRED WHEN I LOST ONE HEADLIGHT ON MY WAY HOME IN THE DARK AND AN INDICATOR CAME ON TO IDENTIFY A FAULT IN THE HEADLIGHT. ORIGINALLY I THOUGH IT WAS A BULB, CHANGED BULB AND IT STILL DID NOT WORK. FURTHER INVESTIGATION LED TO A BROKEN WIRE INSIDE OF THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. I FIXED THE BROKEN WIRE AND THEN NOTICED TWO MORE WIRES WHERE THE COATING ON THE WIRE SEEM TO HAVE FLAKED OFF CAUSING BARE WIRE. I ALSO FIXED THOSE WIRES AND ALL WAS WELL. A DAY OR TWO LATER, THE INDICATOR CAME ON AGAIN POINTING TO THE SAME HEADLIGHT. THIS TIME THE TURN SIGNAL WAS OUT. I OPENED THE ACCESS PANEL TO CHECK THE WIRING AND NOW A FORTH WIRE HAS BEEN SEVERED, HOWEVER I CAN NOT FIX IT AS IT IS DOWN PRETTY FAR INSIDE THE HEADLIGHT AND TO REPAIR WOULD REQUIRE REMOVING THE HEADLIGHT AND TAKING IT APART. APPARENTLY BMW USED BIODEGRADABLE WIRE FOR THE HEADLIGHTS?? SOURCE OF THE HEADLIGHT IS BELIEVED TO BE HELLA. SUPPOSEDLY BMW KNOWS ABOUT THE ISSUE BUT UNWILLING TO FIX UNLESS YOU PURCHASE A $800-1500 NEW HEADLIGHT. THIS IS CRAZY FOR A CAR THAT IS 10 YEARS OLD AND WELL MAINTAINED. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS YOU WILL CAN LOOSE A HEADLIGHT IN THE DARK AND MAYBE BOTH HEADLIGHTS GOING OUT, PLUS THE FACT OF BARE WIRES THAT CAN SHORT AND CAUSE A FIRE. *TR

THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO UNLOCK THE DOORS MANUALLY AND BY USING THE KEY FOB BUT FAILED TO RESPOND. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED OR DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000.
I FOUND OUT THAT THE AIR BAGS IN MY CAR WERE RECALLED IN OCTOBER AND CONTACTED BMW OF SARASOTA TO SCHEDULE THE REPAIR, THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE THE PARTS IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS. IN NOVEMBER I RECEIVED THE OFFICIAL RECALL LETTER FROM BMW USA AND AGAIN CALLED BMW OF SARASOTA TO FIND OUT WHEN THEY WERE GOING TO FIX THE CAR. THEY SAID MY NAME WAS ON A LIST AND THEY WOULD CALL ME WHEN THEY HAD THE PARTS. IT BEEN FOUR MONTHS AND I STILL HAVE NOT HEARD FORM THE BMW DEALERSHIP ABOUT REPLACING THE AIRBAGS. *TR

TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 9, 2014 I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HWY 92 WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I HERE A LOUD THUNDEROUS EXPLOSION. I EMAILED BMW CUSTOMER SERVICE ON OCTOBER 30, 2014 ASKING WHEN REPLACEMENT AIR BAGS WILL BE AVAILABLE. I RECEIVED A RESPONSE FROM BMW SAYING THAT BMW DOES NOT HAVE PARTS TO CONDUCT THE RECALL. BMW SAID THAT, "AS PARTS BECOME AVAILABLE LATER THIS YEAR, WE WILL MAIL A FOLLOW-UP LETTER REQUESTING THAT AN APPOINTMENT BE MADE." I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY OTHER NOTICES FROM BMW. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE I BELIEVE MY CAR STARTED SERVICE IN HAWAII, WHICH HAS HIGH HUMIDITY, AND HAS ALSO BEEN IN DEL MAR, CA, WHICH HAS HIGH HUMIDITY BECAUSE IT IS ON THE OCEAN. I UNDERSTAND THE NEED TO REPLACE BULBS OVER THE LIFETIME OF A VEHICLE, BUT $3,000 FOR A WHOLE NEW HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY IS OUTRAGEOUS! THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT THAT THE NHTSA REFUSES TO INVESTIGATE. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS DESIGN DEFECT ALL OVER THE INTERNET. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE!
