TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 325I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE STEERING WHEEL AIR BAG NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
STARTED CAR APPROXIMATELY 8 MONTHS AGO AND THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE LOCAL BMW DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A DEFECTIVE SEAT SENSOR. WHILE THE CURRENT RECALL DESCRIBES THE SAME ISSUES, THE VIN # WAS NOT INCLUDED ON THE RECALL. THE CAR IS DANGEROUS TO BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED UNDER THIS CAMPAIGN . *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 330XI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG LIGHT ERRONEOUSLY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT MAT SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 13V564000 (AIR BAGS). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.
THE AIRBAG LOG IS CONSTANTLY ON EVEN IF NO PASSENGER IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. THIS APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE SENSOR. HOWEVER BMW LISTS OTHER MODELS BUT NOT THE 330I WITH THIS VIN NUMBER. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED FOR ALL BMWS. WITH SO MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET BMW NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. *TR

WHEN STARTING FROM IDLE TO RUNNING STATE AT A STOP LIGHT THE WHOLE CAR STARTED SHAKING. TOOK THE SHOP AND THEY SAY IT A FAULTY COIL/SPARK PLUG. COSTS ME $600-$1000. LOOKS LIKE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN BMW 325I 2006. THEY SHOULD FIX THIS. *TR

PASSENGER RESTRAINT MALFUNCTION ERROR INDICATOR ON. KNOWN PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL YEARS, BUT ONLY 200,000 CARS RECALLED. MORE REPORTED EACH YEAR BUT IF VIN IS NOT ON LIST THEN OWNER IS EXPECTED TO PAY FOR REPAIRS FOR A KNOWN ACKNOWLEDGE PROBLEM. *TR
I CONTACTED BMW BECAUSE THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2006 BMW 325XI FOR A FAULTY MET SENSOR FOR PASSENGER AIRBAGS. MY VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM BUT THEY ARE TELLING ME IT IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN FEBRUARY OF 2013 AND HAVE NO RECORDS OF RECALLS FROM THE PREVIOUS OWNER. PLEASE ADVISE IF THIS IS PART OF THE CURRENT RECALL...UPDATED 04/07/14 *BF *TR
REAR DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR WOULD NOT ALLOW REAR DOOR TO OPEN. HAD FIXED AND THEN DRIVERS DOOR ACTUATOR FAILED AND WOULD NOT OPEN. COULD NOT GET OUT OF VEHICLE. *TR

THE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL AND AIR BAG SENSOR ILLUMINATED AT RANDOM. THE REAR BACK WINDOW LIGHT ALSO SHORT CIRCUIT AND WAS REPLACED MORE THAN ONE TIME. THE FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
BMW NA HAS ISSUED A RECALL TO ADDRESS BROKEN HEAD BOLTS IN A NUMBER OF 2010 MODELS, WHICH CAN RESULT IN ENGINE FAILURE. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH SEVERAL BMW OWNERS AND FOUND THAT THIS ISSUE EXTENDS BEYOND THEIR INITIAL RECALL INTO EARLIER MODELS, BUT BMW NA IS IGNORING THE ISSUE OUTRIGHT IN THE HOPES THAT IT WILL DISAPPEAR. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH BMW NA SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY HAVE GIVEN ME THE RUNAROUND FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AND PUT MAJOR SMOKESCREENS UP IN MY ATTEMPT FURTHER THE CONVERSATION/INVESTIGATION OF THE ISSUE. I'M REACHING OUT TO NHTSA BECAUSE I HAVE NO OTHER RECOURSE AND I KNOW THIS ISSUE IS NOT A LOCALIZED ISSUE WITH ONE YEAR MODEL, BUT SYMPTOMATIC OF SEVERAL YEARS AND MODELS. TAKATA RECALL - I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR OVER A YEAR OR MORE TO HAVE THE AIRBAG REPLACED. THE DEALER IS UNABLE TO GET THE PARTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE AIRBAG HAS ALREADY BEEN REPLACED ONCE, BUT I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT THE CORRECT ONE. THE CAR IS BASICALLY WORTHLESS BECAUSE NO DEALER OR INDIVIDUAL WILL BUY IT WITH AN OPEN RECALL. I WOULD LIKE TAKATA TO BUY THE VEHICLE FOR MARKET PRICE.
MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT AND SEATBELT LIGHT STAY ON. I OWN A 2006 BMW 330I SPORT. I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS NOTICES THAT THE FRONT SEAT OCCUPANT PROTECTION MAT FAILS FOR MY MAKE/MODEL WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS THAT I AM RECEIVING. I HAVE CONTACTED BMW 3 TIMES OVER THE PAST YEAR WITH EACH NEW ADDENDUM AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME EACH TIME MY CAR DOESN'T APPLY. VEHICLE ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS (ACTUATORS) DO NOT OPERATE PROPERLY. UNABLE TO EXIT DRIVER'S DOOR FROM INSIDE OF VEHICLE BY PULLING HANDLE. IF THERE WAS A CRASH AND/OR FIRE, THERE WOULD BE NO WAY TO EXIT QUICKLY. COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE ACCORDING TO BMW FORUM IN THE INTERNET (BIMMERPOST). *TR
I WENT TO START MY BMW 330I AND A WARNING INDICATOR CAME UP AND SAID THERE WAS A STEERING LOCK MALFUNCTION. IT SAID TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL AND START THE CAR. I TRIED AND TRIED TO START THE CAR BUT IT JUST KEPT SAYING THE SAME THING. THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE WAS BELOW FREEZING. I WAITED A WHILE AND TRIED AGAIN AND IT STARTED. BRAKES FAILED TODAY WITH 19 YEAR OLD SON DRIVING MY BMW. THANKFULLY, HE WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT AND CRUISE TO A STOP. AFTER SOME RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT BMW SAYS THE OIL SUPPLY FOR THE VACUUM PUMP THAT OPERATES THE BRAKE BOOSTER USED FOR POWER ASSIST CAN BE INTERRUPTED, AND CAUSE THE DRIVER TO PRESS MUCH HARDER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO COME TO A STOP. BMW HAS RECALLED OVER 300,000 CARS SINCE 2010 WITH THE SAME PROBLEM - EXCEPT THE 3-SERIES. ALTHOUGH THEY DID ISSUE A RECALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM IN THE 2012-2014 3-SERIES SEDANS IN SEPTEMBER 2013. THANKFUL HE WASN'T IN AN ACCIDENT -- WE DO REALIZE, HOWEVER, THIS SITUATION COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. BMW SHOULD RECALL ALL VEHICLES (SINCE, ACCORDING TO OUR MECHANIC THIS IS A COMMON AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM). *TR

I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ONE WEEK AGO WITH THE AIRBAG AND SEATBELT LIGHTS ON THE DASH, AFTER PLENTY OF RESEARCH THERE WAS A RECALL DONE ON ONLY THE SPORT SEATS. AFTER EVERYTHING I READ EVEN THE NON SPORTS SEATS, LIKE MINE ARE HAVING THE ISSUES AS WELL. BMW NEEDS TO FIX THIS ISSUE WITH ALL MODELS. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED ONLY WHEN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WAS OCCUPIED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AND THE DETECTION MAT SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE A 2006 BMW 330I WHICH HAD A STEERING COLUMN MALFUNCTION AND FAILURE. IT IS SAFETY PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY A BMW CUSTOMER SATISFACTION CAMPAIGN. ON JANUARY 7, 2014 THE TEMP. WAS MINUS 15 DEGREES F AND THE WARNING INDICATOR IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL SHOWED AN ICON OF A STEERING WHEEL AND A LOCK AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE OWNERS MANUAL SAYS "LIGHTS UP IN YELLOW: ELECTRIC STEERING WHEEL IS JAMMED. MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE." I MOVED THE STEERING, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED WHILE I WAS AWAY FROM HOME IN THESE MINUS 15 DEGREES F COLD TEMP. I COULD HAVE FROZEN BEFORE I COULD HAVE RECEIVED ASSISTANCE. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT ANDERSON BMW IN ILLINOIS TOLD ME THAT THE 2006 BMW 330I HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING COLUMN MALFUNCTIONING. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH TOOK ALMOST 2 FULL DAYS DUE TO THE COLD WEATHER IN CHICAGO AND ALL THE CARS THAT WOULDN'T START FROM THE COLD. I CONTACTED BMW CUSTOMER SERVICE, EXPLAINED MY PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING TO COVER THIS UNUSUAL QUALITY PROBLEM UNDER WARRANTY. I UNDERSTAND IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT I WOULDN'T EXPECT A MAJOR STEERING, START AND INTERLOCK SYSTEM FAILURE WHEN IT IS ONLY 10,600 MILES OVER THE WARRANTY PERIOD. AS AN AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEER RESPONSIBLE FOR QUALITY I DEAL WITH WARRANTY ISSUES QUITE OFTEN AS WELL AS RECALLS WITH NHTSA. WHILE MANY TIMES A QUALITY ISSUE WITH A PRODUCT IS SAFETY RELATED IT DOES NOT REQUIRE A NHTSA RECALL. HOWEVER, IT CAN BE COVERED UNDER A MANUFACTURERS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION CAMPAIGN. FROM THE NHTSA WEBSITE, THERE ARE MANY CASES REPORTED THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE 2006 BMW 330I MODEL. I AM REPORTING THIS INCIDENT TO NHTSA IN HOPES THAT BMW WILL DO SOMETHING FOR OTHER OWNERS AS THE REPAIR BILL WAS $938.00 AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY BMW, WARRANTY OR NOT. *TR
ABOUT A WEEK AGO, THE VEHICLE PASSENGER AIRBAG AND SEATBELT WARNING INDICATORS BEGAN TO DISPLAY ERRATICALLY. THEY WOULD GO ON AND OFF AT DIFFERING INTERVALS. SEVERAL WEEKS AGO THE INDICATORS BOTH CAME ON AND HAVE REMAINED ON. DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE ISSUE, I LOCATED A RECALL NOTICE IN 2008 FOR THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE WHICH INCLUDED MY 2006 325I AND ANOTHER RECALL IN 2013 AND THAT BMW HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR THIS ISSUE FOR AN ADDITIONAL 10 YEARS. THE SEAT MAT WIRING WAS DETERMINED TO BE FAULTY WHICH CAUSE THE VEHICLE SENSOR TO ENGAGE THE WARNING/INDICATOR AS IT COULD NOT DETERMINE IF A PASSENGER WAS IN THE SEAT OR NOT AND THEREFORE THE AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. I CONFIRMED MY VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME RECALL ISSUE FROM 2008 AND 2013 RECALL WITH A LOCAL BMW SHOP AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO CONTACT BMW OF NORTHAMERCIA BECOUSE BASED MY VIN# IT WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST,PARTS AND REPAIR S OUT OF POCKET. I CONTACTED BMW OF NORTHAMERCIA AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE MAKE,MODEL AND YEARWAS PART OF THE NOV 2013 RECALL BUT COULD NOT SPECIFY BASED ON THE VIN NUMBER IF MY VEHICLE QUALIFIED. ??? THIS IS THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. WHY WOULD MY QUALIFYING VEHICLE NOT BE UNDER WARRANTY FOR THE SAME MAKE, MODEL, YEAR AND RECALL ISSUE AS THE OTHER VEHICLES BEING RECALLED? I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF 2006 325I WITH 42,000 MILES. ON JANUARY, THE CAR SUDDENLY ALARMED WARNING SIGNS ON CA HIGHWAY #5 AND STARTED TO MAKE LOUD NOISE AND SHAKINGS. AT THAT TIME, I WAS PREGNANT AND WITH MY 2 YEAR OLD BABY ON BACK SEAT. THE SITUATION WAS HAPPENING ON THE HIGHWAY! I WAS SO WORRIED ABOUT DRIVING SAFETY. TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM, THE DEALER SHOP ASKED ME TO REPLACE HEAD GASKET ALUMINUM VOLT AND HOUSING GASKET. IT DID COST OVER $4000. DURING THE REPAIR, THE TECHNICIAN SAID THAT THE PROBLEM IS COMMON ON THIS MODEL. I RESEARCHED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND READ MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT SAME ISSUES FROM BMW 2006 325I OWNERS. THE OWNERS AGREE THAT THE HEAD GASKET ALUMINUM VOLT AND HOUSING GASKET ISSUE RESULT IN MANUFACTURE DEFECTS. LATER, BMW CHANGED THE VOLT MATERIALS AND PROVIDED GOOD WILL REPAIRS FOR SOME OWNERS. I STRONGLY ASSUME THAT THIS IS ONE OF MANUFACTURE DEFECTS COST CUSTOMERS TO REPAIR AS WELL AS THREATEN DRIVERS? SAFETY. SO I CALLED BMW CUSTOMER RELATION. BUT THEY SAID THAT ?KEEP THE RECEIPT AND YOU MAY GET REFUND WHEN ?THERE ARE ENOUGH PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT IT???YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO REPORT THIS PROBLEM TO NHTSA?.? I ASKED ABOUT HOW MANY CUSTOMERS HAD SAME PROBLEMS. BUT THEY SAID "DO NOT KNOW". BASED ON THEIR RESPONSE, IT SEEMS THAT THEY KNEW AND UNDERSTOOD IT IS MANUFACTURE DEFECTS, BUT DO NOT CARE UNTIL THE ISSUE IS LOUSY OR HANDLED WITH POWERFUL AUTHORITY. IT IS THREATENING DRIVING SAFETY OF NOT ONLY THE OWNERS BUT ALL OTHER DRIVERS ON HIGHWAYS BECAUSE IT DOES NOT GIVE ANY SIGNS BEFORE BROKEN ON HIGHWAY. THEREFORE, I AM REPORTING THIS ISSUE WHILE HOPING THAT NO OTHER DRIVERS OR BABIES GET HURTS FROM THIS SUDDEN DEFECTS AND YOU COULD DO INVESTIGATE IT IN DEPTH SO THAT YOU COULD PROTECT ALL OTHER DRIVERS? IN ADDITION, THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG WOULD NOT ACTIVATE WHEN THE PASSENGER'S SEAT WAS OCCUPIED. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V564000 (AIR BAGS). THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT IN THE EVEN OF A CRASH, THE AIR BAGS WOULD POSSIBLY NOT DEPLOY. THE MANUFACTURE CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND DECLINED TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE TO THE CONTACT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.

DEC. 2008 I RECEIVED A CONSUMER ADVISORY LETTER FROM BMW OF NORTH AMERICA. THE LETTER STATES THAT DEPENDING ON THE MANNER AND FREQUENCY OF THE FRONT PASSENGER'S ENTRY AND EXIT, SMALL CRACKS MAY DEVELOP IN THE PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANT DETECTION MAT. IF THIS CONDITION EXISTS, THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG AND SIDE AIR BAG WILL DEACTIVATE, AND BOTH THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP AND FRONT PASSENGER "ON-OFF" LAMP WILL ILLUMINATE. IN THIS SITUATION THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG AND SIDE AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY, EVEN IN A SEVERE ACCIDENT. THEY ARE EXTENDING THE WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR 10 YEARS. IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR BOTH THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP AND THE PASSENGER AIR BAG "ON-OFF" LAMP ARE ILLUMINATED IN MY 2006 325I BMW. THE LETTER STATES SHOULD THIS HAPPEN HAVE THE VEHICLE CHECKED WITHOUT DELAY AT AN AUTHORIZED BMW CENTER. I DID THAT AND WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM IS DIFFERENT FROM WHAT THE ADVISORY LETTER STATES AND WILL COST ME $1300.00. I CONTACTED BMW CUSTOMER RELATIONS OF NORTH AMERICA AND SPOKE TO A PERSON BY THE NAME OF "[XXX]" WHO TOLD ME SHE WOULD CHECK WITH THE AUTHORIZED BMW CENTER. I TOLD HER I AM THE ONLY DRIVER OF MY CAR AND VERY SELDOM DO I HAVE ANY PASSENGERS WITH ME AND I NEVER HAD ANY ACCIDENT WITH MY CAR, SO THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER HER REPLY WAS BECAUSE OF THE AGE OF MY BMW THEY WOULD NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY "BUT" THEY WOULD DISCOUNT THE COST OF THE REPAIR AND INSTEAD OF CHARGING $1300.00 THEY WOULD CHARGE $1002.00! I OWN A 2006 BMW 325I. ABOUT A YEAR OR TWO AGO, THE REVERSE LIGHTS WILL NOT ILLUMINATE WHILE REVERSING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM, AND MENTIONED MULTIPLE ONLINE ACCOUNTS OF THIS PROBLEM EXTENDING AT LEAST FROM 2003 THROUGH 2008. IT COULD HAVE BEEN LONGER. I ALSO REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V438000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING:TURN SIGNAL) AND NHTSA ID NUMBER: 10443539 (TAIL LIGHT FAILURE). THE DEALER ADVISED ME THAT THIS VEHICLE YEAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALL CAMPAIGN FOR THIS PROBLEM. IN ADDITION, THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE FRM MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A WIRING MALFUNCTION. FROM ONLINE REPORTS AND PICTURES, I CONFIRMED MY REVERSE LIGHT FAILURE WAS ALSO A WIRING ISSUE CAUSED FROM A VERY POOR WIRE ROUTING DESIGN BY BMW. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS AT APPROXIMATELY 110,000 AND THE COST TO REPAIR WAS OUTRAGEOUS! I CURRENTLY OWN A 06 BMW 325I 4DR AND HAVE RECENTLY EXPERIENCED A FRONT PASSENGER SEAT DETECTION MAT MALFUNCTION. THE RECALL NOTICE STATES THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO PERFORM THE REPAIR ARE SCHEDULED TO BE AVAILABLE IN MARCH 2014. IT IS NOW MAY 6, 2014 AND BMW CUSTOMER RELATIONS HAS INDICATED THAT THE PARTS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE AN ESTIMATE ON WHEN THEY WILL BE. IT HAS NOW BEEN NEARLY 5 MONTHS SINCE RECEIVING THE ORIGINAL RECALL NOTICE. DURING THIS TIME I ESSENTIALLY HAVE A VEHICLE THAT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE WITH A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THE 325I MOTOR IS WELL KNOWN FOR ALUMINUM BOLTS SNAPPING ON THE MOTOR RESULTING IN SIGNIFICANT OIL LEAKS AND OIL PRESSURE. THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET AND BOLTS ARE WELL KNOWN FOR PREMATURELY FAILING AND THE HEAD OF BOLTS SNAPPING OFF UNDER PRESSURES. THE VALVE COVER GASKET AND OIL PAN IS ALSO KNOWN TO PREMATURELY FAIL DUE TO POOR ENGINEERS AND THE UTILIZATION OF ALUMINUM BOLTS. BMW FIXED THE ISSUE IN 2007 AND REPLACED DEFECTIVE BOLTS WITH IRON BOLTS. THE IRONY IS THAT BMW REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUES IN THE 2006 BMW 325I.
