DRIVING 30 MPH TPMS LIGHT CAME ON INDICATING FRONT DRIVER TIRE LOW, GOT HOME AND TOOK TRIED TO INFLATE TIRE, WITH NO LUCK. TOOK TIRE OFF AND THE INSIDE TIRE WALL HAD BLOWN OUT. 1 MONTH LATER THE SAME BLOW OUT OCCURRED ON PASSENGER REAR TIRE. THERE WAS GOOD TREAD ON BOTH TIRES. DON'T KNOW IF IT MATTERS, BUT BOTH TIRES WHERE RUN FLAT. I HAVE CONTACTED BRIDGESTONE, BUT NO RESPONSE. I'M ATTACHING PICTURES.
THIS COMPLAINT IS FOR THE PRIMEWELL PZ -900 225/40 ZR18 92 W XL. ON 21DEC17, WHILE DRIVING THE TIRE SUDDENLY LOSS AIR AT AROUND 70 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR BUT IT TOOK A WHILE TO GET TO SAFE AREA TO PULL OVER DUE TO MORNING HOUR COMMUTE TRAFFIC AND SPEEDS INVOLVED. I WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A HOLE OR NAIL BUT AFTER REMOVING THE WHEEL, I FOUND A 2 INCH CRACK LOCATED ON THE INNER SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE. A LOCAL TIRE SHOP WARNED ME ABOUT A PRIMEWELL TIRE RECALL IN 2017. AFTER ONLINE RESEARCH , THE SAME LOCATION OF THE CRACK AND WHAT HAPPEN TO ME WHILE DRIVING IS THE SAME AS VALERA TOURING II SIDEWALL PROBLEMS THAT LED TO A RECALL. I HAVE NOT CHANGED THE TIRE AND HAVE PHOTOS. ALL PRIMEWELL TIRES NEED TO BE CHECKED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED, THIS IS NOT ISOLATED TO ONE MODEL.
THE WHEELS/RIMS ON MY BMW ARE CONTRIBUTING TO MY TIRES FAULTS. THE BRIDGESTONE POTENZA RTS TIRES ARE CONSTANTLY HAVING BUBBLES FORM ON THE TIRES WITH NORMAL DRIVING. I HAVE REPLACED SEVERAL TIRES AS A RESULT. THEY TELL ME IT IS ROAD HAZARD. IF THAT WAS THE CASE I WOULD HAVE REPLACED TIRES ON MY OTHER CARS THAT I DRIVE MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY. LAST WEEK ANOTHER BLOWOUT ON INTERSTATE 395 IN VA. $500 FOR A NEW TIRE AND THEN THEY FIND ANOTHER TIRE WITH A BUBBLE. BMW IS AT FAULT AS WELL.
THE BRIDGESTONE TIRES THAT ARE STANDARD ON MY BMW 328I ARE STRESSED WITH BUBBLES FORMING ON THE SIDEWALLS. MY 2007 BMW HAS HAD ALL THE TIRES REPLACED AS A RESULT OF BUBBLES OR BLOWOUTS. THE MOST RECENT WAS WEDNESDAY, JUNE 24TH. I TIRE WAS LEAKING AIR AND FOUND TO BE DAMAGED. I BARELY MADE IT BACK TO BMW DEALER 3.2 MILES AWAY FROM WHERE IT HAPPENED. WHEN THEY INSPECTED THE CAR THEY FOUND ANOTHER TIRE THAT HAD A BUBBLE FORMED ON IT CAUSING A FAILED VA INSPECTION. MARCH 2014, THE TIRE BLEW OUT ON I-95 IN GA. THE CAR WAS FLAT BED TOWED TO SAVANNAH WHERE THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. AGAIN CAUSED BY BUBBLES FORMED ON THE SIDEWALL. OVER THE EIGHT YEARS I HAVE HAD THE CAR, I HAVE REPLACED THE 8 TIRES DUE TO BUBBLES. THE CAR HAS 31,115 MILES ON IT. I TAKE EXTRA CARE OF THE CAR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY BRIDGESTONE AND BMW. I HAVE REPEATEDLY TRIED TO DISCUSS THIS WITH THE COMPANIES BUT THEY GIVE ME THE RUN AROUND AND BLAME EACH OTHER. BRIDGESTONE SAID THAT BMW BUILT THE CAR TO LOW TO THE GROUND. BMW SAYS THEY DON'T MAKE TIRES. THIS IS SERIOUS.
TPMS ALERTED US OF A LOW TIRE. WHEN TAKEN TO REPAIR WE WHERE NOTIFIED THE LEFT REAR RIM WAS CRACKED AND LEAKING AIR. CAR WAS ONLY DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY, NO ROUGH ROADS...WHAT WOULD CAUSE THE RIM TO CRACK? I UNDERSTAND THE UK'S NTSB HAS ISSUED A RECALL AS BMW ADMITTED THAT THEIR WHEELS HAD DEFECTIVE ALLOY METAL CAUSING THE RIMS TO BREAKDOWN. HOWEVER, BMW OF NORTH AMERICA HAS NOT ADMITTED TO ANY DEFECTIVE METAL AND HAS NOT ACCEPTED RESPONSIBILITY. HOPE THIS GETS REVIEWED FOR SAFETY BEFORE SOME GETS PHYSICALLY INJURED OR DIES AS A RESULT OF THESE DEFECTIVE WHEELS. REAR ALLOY WHEEL IS CRACKED RESULTING IN LOSS OF PRESSURE. NO IMPACT OCCURRED TO CAUSE THIS CRACK. *TR
I JUST DISCOVERED THAT THE LEFT REAR RIM ON MY 2007 BMW 328 CONVERTIBLE IS CRACKED. MY CAR HAS LESS THAN 38K MILES ON IT. THE TIRES ARE 225/45 17' RUN-FLATS. I HAD FOUR NEW TIRES PUT ON ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. I GOT THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT ABOUT A WEEK AGO WHEN I STARTED THE CAR. I CHECKED, DIDN'T NOTICE ANYTHING, AND RESET THE TPM SUCCESSFULLY. SINCE IT WAS A COLD MORNING, I FIGURED THE SENSOR WAS JUST REACTING TO PRESSURE CHANGE DUE TO THE TEMPERATURE CHANGE. A FEW DAYS LATER, IT CAME AGAIN. I DECIDED TO CHECK, AND FOUND THE PRESSURE WAS DOWN TO ABOUT 25 PSI. I FILLED THE TIRE TO RECOMMENDED PSI. I DROVE ABOUT 260 MILES ON SUNDAY, MOSTLY FREEWAY SPEEDS. WHEN I WAS ABOUT 30 MILES FROM HOME, THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. AT THAT TIME I WAS ON A FREEWAY, GOING ABOUT 70 MPH. ONCE I GOT TO HOME, I FILLED THE TIRE (AGAIN IT WAS ABOUT 25 PSI), AND THE WARNING STOPPED. YESTERDAY THE LIGHT CAME ON, AND I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL TIRE SHOP. THEY DIDN'T FIND A PUNCTURE; BUT REMOUNTED IT AND FILLED IT. I DROVE HOME, AND A FEW HOURS LATER, THE WARNING CAME ON AGAIN. THIS MORNING, I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP, AND THEY AGAIN REMOVED THE TIRE. THIS TIME THEY DID A VERY CLOSE INSPECTION AND FOUND THE CRACK IN THE RIM. THEY ARE ORDERING ME A REPLACEMENT RIM. FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN ON THE INTERNET, THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE BMW RIMS AND RUN-FLAT TIRES. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE, IF THE RIM WOULD HAVE A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WHILE THE CAR WAS TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THIS COULD BE DEADLY. *TR
THE WHEELS WERE CHECKED DUE TO SEVERAL INSTANCES OF TIRE PRESSURE LOSS. IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT 3 OF 4 RIMS HAVE CRACKS THAT ARE CAUSING THE TIRES TO LOSE PRESSURE. UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH, IT IS APPARENT THAT THIS DEFECT HAS AFFECTED MANY BMW OWNERS WITH RUN FLAT TIRES. *TR
MY VEHICLE DISPLAYED A CODE, "TPM", WHICH MEANS, TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR, WHICH IS TO DETECT TIRE PRESSURE ISSUES FROM THE "RUN FLAT TIRES" THAT ARE STANDARD ON MY VEHICLE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO MY DEALER AND THEY SAID, "THE TEMPERATURE SWING TRIPPED THE WARNING LIGHT". THEY RESET THE SYSTEM AND I CONTINUED TO USE MY VEHICLE AND WITHIN 3 DAYS, THE TPM LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, AND I IMMEDIATELY DROVE OVER TO THE DEALER AGAIN. ON MY WAY TWO OF MY RUN FLAT TIRES LITERALLY SHREDDED AND I WAS FORCED TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER. THIS TIME THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE NITROGEN THAT IS USED TO INFLATE THE TIRES, HAD ERODED THE INTERIOR LINING (WALLS) OF THE TIRES WHICH IS WHY THEY DID NOT DETECT THIS ISSUE 3 DAYS BEFORE. NOT ONLY DID I HAVE TO SPRING FOR 4 NEW TIRES, THAT HAVE 27K MILES ON THEM, I AM NOW FEARFUL OF THIS HAPPENING AGAIN. IF NITROGEN IS IN FACT DESTROYING THE TIRE FROM THE INSIDE OUT, THAN WHY IS THIS CHEMICAL BEING USED??? *TR
I PURCHASED THESE GENERAL TIRES FROM TIRERACK.COM SEVERAL YEARS AGO THEY ARE RATED TREAD LIFE OF APPROX 40K MILES. A FEW WEEKS AGO I NOTICED BY MY TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS I HAD A SLOW LEAK IN MY FRONT LEFT TIRE. I REMOVED THE ENTIRE WHEEL TO INSPECT FOR TIRE DAMAGE OR CRACKS, AND WAS APPALLED TO FIND THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE TREAD HAD SPLIT FROM THE SIDEWALL THE ENTIRE WAY AROUND. THIS IS QUITE DANGEROUS I HAD NO IDEA I COULD HAVE HAD A BLOW OUT AT ANY TIME. I DO NOT KNOW HOW LONG THIS TIRE WAS IN THIS CONDITION. I HAD APPROX 25K MILES ON THE TIRES. I IMMEDIATELY ORDERED NEW FRONT TIRES AND DID NOT DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL REPLACED. I AM SEEKING REPLACEMENT TIRE FROM GENERAL HOWEVER THEY DO NOT SEEM VERY CONCERNED WITH THIS ISSUE. THE GUYS AT TIRE KINGDOM WHO CHANGED THE TIRES CONFIRMED IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS TO BE DRIVING ON A TIRE IN THAT CONDITION. THEY ALSO SAID IT'S LIKELY A DEFECTIVE GENERAL TIRE. GENERAL OFFERED TO REPLACE BASED ON REMAINING LIFE BUT WOULD LIKELY FIND AN EXCUSE BASED ON WEAR PATTERN AND BLAME USAGE. THE OTHER FRONT TIRE SAME BRAND, SIZE AND WEAR DID NOT HAVE THIS ISSUE. *TR
I JUST PURCHASED A 2007 USED BMW 328XI WITH ~45K MILES. ONE WEEK TO THE DATE OF PURCHASE, THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON IN THE CAR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP (STILL UNDER WARRANTY FOR 5K MORE MILES) AND THEY TOLD ME I HAD A CRACKED RIM, "LIKELY DUE TO IMPACT." I HAVE DRIVEN IT ONLY ON ROADS UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS, HITTING NO SIGNIFICANT POTHOLES OR OTHER ROAD OBSTRUCTIONS. THE RIM IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND WILL COST ~$500 TO REPLACE. I CHECKED THIS OUT INCIDENT REPORTS ONLINE AND IT SEEMS THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE RIMS/RUN-FLAT TIRES BEING DEFECTIVE UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. *TR
BMW 3 SERIES AND ALSO OTHER SERIES WITH RUN FLAT TIRES HAVE AN ISSUE THAT WITH AN AVERAGE BUMP LIKE A MANHOLE COVER THE WHEEL WILL CRACK. I HAVE REPLACED 3 SO FAR ON MY 2007 335I AT MY COST. AFTER RESEARCH I HAVE SEEN THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE AND THAT EVERYONE HAS HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE WITH BMW DENYING IT WAS THE WHEEL. THE CAR HAS 45,000+/- MILES ON IT. WHEN BROUGHT IN DUE TO RAPID AIR LOSS BMW STATES IT WAS THE DRIVING CONDITIONS NOT THEIR WHEEL. I DRIVE ON MOSTLY HIGHWAY ROADS AND SECONDARY ROADS TO MY HOUSE. I HAVE NEVER HIT ANY KIND OF POTHOLE OR CURB THAT WOULD CAUSE AN ALLOY RIM TO BE CRACKED. IN ALL 3 INSTANCES, THE CRACK IS EXACTLY THE SAME AND THE REPLACEMENT FOR THIS DAMAGE IS IN EXCESS OF $500 FOR THE RIM. IN TWO OF THE INSTANCES, I HAD TO GET A NEW RUN FLAT TIRE AS WELL AT A COST OF $400 A PIECE. ALL THREE OF THESE PROBLEMS HAVE OCCURRED OVER THE PAST 5 MONTHS!! *TR
YOU CAN'T HIT A POT HOLE WITHOUT BENDING A RIM MY DAUGHTER JUST BOUGHT 09 328 WITH 7800 MILES, DROVE IT 3000MILES, HAS ONE CRACKED RIM, TWO BENT RIMS AND THE SHOP SAID SHE HAS TWO DAMAGED TIRES. SHE BOUGHT 4 NEW TIRES. I'M SORRY I TOLD HER TO BUY BMW. MY SON BOUGHT 08 335XI WITH 60000 MILES. DROVE IT FOR A FEW MONTHS, THE DEALER SAID IT NEEDED 3 RIMS STRAIGHTEN. ALSO BECAUSE IT HAD A MIS THE DEALER GAVE HIM AN ESTIMATE FOR $18,000.00 TO FIX THE RIMS, THE TWO LEAKS AND THE TRANSMISSION. HE GOT RID OF IT AS FAST AS HE COULD AND TOOK A BEATING. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 56YRS WITHOUT A BENT RIM UNTIL I BOUGHT THE 07 BMW. *TR
MY CAR FAILED A VEHICLE INSPECTION TODAY FOR "SAFETY REASONS" BECAUSE I'M TOLD THE 2 FRONT TIRES ARE WORN OUT. I HAVE A 2007 BMW 328XI THAT CAME WITH BRIDGESTONE TURANZA EL 42 RUN FLAT TIRES. AFTER 8114 MILES IN RESPONSE TO MY COMPLAINS WITH THE HANDLING, AND NOISE, THE TIRES WERE FOUND TO BE SCALLOPED AND ALL 4 WERE REPLACED (WITH SAME MAKE AND MODEL) FREE OF CHARGE IN 2007. AT 22K MILES (14K ON NEW TIRES) THE NOISE BECAME UNBEARABLE AND AT 28,555 (20K ON TIRES) I TOOK THE CAR BACK IN AND WAS TOLD TO REPLACE THE TIRES FOR CLOSE TO $1000 (SINCE THE DEALER SAID THEY COULD ONLY REPLACE TIRES ONCE) WITH ADVISE TO SHOP FOR A BETTER PRICE. GIVEN THAT MY STATE INSPECTION GUIDELINES CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND I'M ASKED TO CHANGE TIRES TWICE UNDER 29K MILES, I WOULD HAVE HOPED BMW OR BRIDGESTONE WOULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. BUT I'M REQUESTING THE NHTSA TO LOOK INTO IT. *TR
RUNFLAT TIRES ON BMW 328XI ARE NOT SUITED TO AMERICAN ROADS. HIT A POTHOLE ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THE RUNFLAT TIRES. WHEEL WAS DAMAGED AND TIRE WAS DAMAGED AS WELL. RUNFLAT TIRES SEEM LESS RESILIENT THAN STANDARD TIRES, AND RESULT IN GREATER LIKELIHOOD OF WHEEL DAMAGE. TIRE DID NOT GO FLAT, BUT WHEEL AND TIRE NEED REPLACEMENT. *TR

I DISCOVERED FEW WEEKS AGO THAT THE CAR I LEASE SINCE 2008 DOES NOT HAVE A SPARE TIRE. WHEN I INQUIRE THE REASON WHY, THE MANUFACTURER EXPLAINED THAT THE CAR USES ESPECIAL TIRES CALLED RUN FLAT WHICH IN THE EVENT OF A TIRE PROBLEM WOULD ALLOW ME TO GO TO THE NEXT TIRE SHOP. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS ARGUMENT. FIRST, THE RATIONALE FOR ELIMINATING A SPARE TIRE IS FLAWED AND UNSAFE: A SPARE PROVIDES DRIVERS WITH AN EXTRA WHEEL ' INCLUDING BOTH TIRE AND RIM, IN CASE SOMETHING HAPPENS WITH EITHER COMPONENT. ELIMINATING THE SPARE BECAUSE A CAR HAS RFTS (RUN FLAT TIRES) FAILS TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THAT THE WHEELS OF THE CAR CAN ALSO SUFFER DAMAGE TO THE POINT OF IMMOBILIZING THE VEHICLE. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT SAFETY HAZARD THAT WOULD BE EASILY SOLVED WITH A SPARE TIRE. SECOND, AFTER RESEARCHING ABOUT RFTS I FOUND OUT THAT MOST TIRE SHOPS IN THE METROPOLITAN AREA WHERE I LIVE DON'T CARRY THESE TIRES (ONE NEEDS TO PRE-ORDER THEM) AND CANNOT EVEN REPAIR THEM. I CANNOT IMAGINE WHAT WOULD BE THE AVAILABILITY OUTSIDE METROPOLITAN AREAS. THIRD, THESE TIRES ARE TWICE OR THREE TIMES AS EXPENSIVE AS A REGULAR TIRE ' THE CHEAPEST RFT FOR MY CAR ARE $200 PER TIRE; AND ACCORDING TO TIRE SHOP EMPLOYEES THEY TYPICALLY LAST HALF THE MILEAGE OF A REGULAR TIRE. FOURTH, AND PERHAPS THE MOST CONCERNING ISSUE, WHEN I WAS BUYING THE CAR NOBODY AT THE DEALERSHIP DISCLOSED THE TYPE OF TIRES THE CAR HAD OR THE LACK OF SPARE TIRE. IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS INFORMATION I SIMPLY WOULD NOT HAVE LEASED THE VEHICLE. I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY SAID THAT EVEN THOUGH THEY SUGGEST THEIR DEALERS DISCLOSE THIS INFORMATION, THEY CANNOT MONITOR NOR CAN THEY DO ANYTHING TO MAKE THE DEALERS COMPLY. I THINK BOTH MANUFACTURER AND DEALERS ARE TO BLAME FOR PUTTING PEOPLE AT RISK BY ELIMINATING THE SPARE TIRE, AND FOR NOT BEING FORTHCOMING AND EXPLICIT ABOUT THE INTRODUCTION OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES THAT MAY AFFECT THE PURCHASE DECISION. *TR

THE DEALER WILL REPLACE TWO OF HER TIRES FOR FREE, BUT THE OTHER TWO MUST BE PURCHASED AT THE COST OF $625. THE TIRE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,025.
