TAKATA RECALL ON DECEMBER 25, 2015 AT APPROXIMATELY 5:20 A.M. MY 2010 328I BMW SKIDDED OFF HWY 99 SOUTHBOUND GOING TOWARDS LAX. VEHICLE SKIDDED AS CAUSED BY THE BLACK ICE ON ROAD, RESULTING IN US CRASHING INTO THE LEFT GUARD RAIL. MY MOTHER AND I FELT THE ENTIRE IMPACT OF VEHICLE . I, AS THE DRIVER, HIT MY HEAD ON THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW CAUSING SEVERE WHIPLASH AND A SPRAINED NECK. I HAD TO CRAWL OUT OF THE VEHICLE BECAUSE I WAS TRAPPED INSIDE, DUE TO IMPACT OF CRASH BEING ON THE LEFT SIDE OF VEHICLE. ONCE CHP ARRIVED, MY CAR WAS TOWED OFF THE HWY. THE BMW'S AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AT THE TIME OF IMPACT CAUSING ME SEVERE NECK AND HEAD INJURIES. I WAS TRAVELING 65 MPH, NO HIGHER THAN SPEED LIMIT. WANT TO KNOW WHY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND IF MY NECK AND HEAD INJURIES COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED . I HAVE HOSPITAL DOCUMENTS IF NECESSARY.
WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE FROM WORK, I WAS AT A RED LIGHT WHEN MY VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A RATTLING NOISE AND CUT OFF. IT WASN'T IN MOTION AT THIS POINT AND IT WOULDN'T START AFTER CUTTING OFF. I HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC SHOP TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. THEIR REPORT WAS DETERMINED THAT IT WAS THE TIMING CHAIN, SO I HAD I TOWED TO THE NEAREST BMW DEALERSHIP (TOM BUSH BMW ON ATLANTIC BLVD),WHERE THEY CURRENTLY HAVE IT. RIGHT NOW, JUST TO OPEN THE ENGINE TO SEE THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE IS A $700 LABOR DIAGNOSTIC TEST, WHICH IS RATHER PRICEY!!!. I SAW THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON SOME OF THEIR OTHER BMW VEHICLES CONCERNING THE TIMING CHAIN AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE 3 SERIES IS A PART OF THAT RECALL?? MY VEHICLE IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD AND SHOULDN'T BE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TIMING CHAIN. YOUR ASSISTANCE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 BMW 328I. WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AFTER THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT ONE OF THE FUEL LINES FRACTURED AND THAT THE FUEL LINES AND FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME FRAME TO SCHEDULE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT. WHEN DRIVING ON PA-401, I APPROACHED STOP SIGN AT PA-82. MY SPEED WAS APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, SLOWING TO MAKE A ROUTINE STOP. WHEN APPROACHING THE INTERSECTION AT LOW SPEED, I STARTED HEARING A PULSING THUMP FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. DROVE SLOWLY HOME AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A BMW DEALER. IT TURNED OUT THAT THE TWO ALUMINIUM ENGINE MOUNT BOLTS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR SNAPPED. THIS MEANT THAT THE ENGINE WAS NOT PROPERLY FASTENED TO THE FRAME - A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. ENGINE MOUNT BOLTS SHOULD NOT SNAP FOR NO REASON. AND BMW SHOULD COVER THEIR REPLACEMENT (PARTS AND LABOR) AT NO CHARGE TO THE OWNER. (MY CAR WAS CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED, SO I ONLY HAD A $50 OUT OF POCKET COST, BUT ONCE IT EXPIRES LATER THIS YEAR, MY COST WOULD HAVE BEEN SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER, NOT TO MENTION THE DANGER OF DRIVING A CAR WITH A BOUNCING, UNSECURED ENGINE)
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 BMW 335. WHILE DRIVING AT 5 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A POLE AND A BUILDING. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE DDE AND DTC MODULES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. EGR COOLER IS LEAKING AND FUMES ARE GETTING INTO CABIN, IT HAS DISABLED THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROLS ALSO CRUISE CONTROL! THE FAULT CAME JUST BEYOND THE FACTORY WARRANTY OF 50,000 MILES 4 YEAR. I READY ABOUT YOUR COMPLAINT SERVICE IN A FORUM AND BMW WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS FREE OF CHARGE.

DRIVING FROM WORK ON A SNOWING DAY, GOING ABOUT 25 TO 35. THE REAR OF THE CAR STARTED GOING TO THE OTHER SIDE OF LANE. I TRADED TO GET CONTROL BUT IT WAS TO LATE. I HIT A GUARD RAIL AND THE AIR BAGS NEVER CAME OUT. *TR
ENGINE IGNITION COIL FAILED AND CAR STARTED TO SHAKE RENDERING IT UNABLE TO DRIVE. CAR IS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WHO INDICATED THAT IGNITION COIL FAILURES ARE A COMMON ISSUE ACROSS BMWS. THERE ARE RECALLS ON THIS PROBLEM IN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES AND I AM WONDERING WHY THERE ISN'T A RECALL IN THE US. *TR
EXCESSIVE SOOT AND CARBON BUILD UP IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND INTAKE VALVES OF THE 335D WHICH IS A DIESEL CAR. THIS CAUSES ROUGH IDLING, MISFIRES, AND LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. WHILE MERGING ONTO A HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE MALFUNCTIONED DUE TO THIS PROBLEM AND IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER ALMOST CAUSING A COLLISION. THE VEHICLE HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR MORE THAN 20K MILES AND CONTINUOUS TRIPS TO THE DEALER TO DIAGNOSE. FINALLY, THE DEALER AGREED IT WAS CARBON BUILD UP BUT THAT IT IS NOT COVERED. THE REPAIRS FOR THIS SHOULD BE COVERED BY BMW AS IT IS EMISSIONS RELATED AND CAN CAUSE SIGNIFICANT ENGINE PROBLEMS. THIS HAS NOT BEEN AN ISSUE ON OTHER DIESEL CARS BY OTHER MANUFACTURERS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY 295 AROUND 67 MPH. WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY ABOUT 10 MINUTES I FELT A LOSS OF SPEED ABOUT FIVE TIMES. IT FEEL LIKE I LET GO THE GAS PEDAL, BUT I NEVER DID. AND SUDDENLY THE CAR STALLED WHILE I WAS ON 67 MPH. I TRY TO PULLED TO THE RIGHT SIDE LANE OF THE HIGHWAY. I TRY TO START THE CAR BACK UP BUT IT WON'T START. I KEEP TRYIN FOR ABOUT TEN TIMES AND IT ABOUT HALF AN HOUR WENT BY IT START BACK UP AGAIN. *TR
I STARTED MY CAR AND BEGIN PULLING OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT. WHEN I SHIFTED FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE AND PULLED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE TO PUSH THE ACCELERATOR, THE ENGINE REDUCED POWER SIGNIFICANTLY, STALLED, AND THE CAR DIED ON ME WITHIN A FEW SECONDS. THERE WERE SEVERAL MESSAGES THAT APPEARED ONCE THE ENGINE HAD DIED INCLUDING "ENGINE MALFUNCTION", "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" AND "DSC - REDUCED DRIVABILITY". THE LATTER STATED THAT IT WAS STILL SAFE TO DRIVE THE CAR THOUGH CAUTION SHOULD BE USED. HOWEVER, WHEN I TRIED RE-STARTING THE ENGINE, IT WOULD CRANK AND SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO START, BUT WOULD NOT ACTUALLY START. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO GET A FEW PEOPLE IN THE AREA TO PUSH ME SAFELY OUT OF THE ACTIVE TRAFFIC LANE I WAS STALLED IN INTO A PARKING SPOT. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST BMW DEALERSHIP WHERE CAUSE OF ISSUE IS STILL BEING DIAGNOSED; SO I STILL DO NOT KNOW ROOT CAUSE FOR THIS MALFUNCTION. LUCKILY I WAS IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THIS HAPPENED, HOWEVER, THE THOUGHT THAT THE ENGINE COULD JUST STOP AND DIE ON ME AT ANY POINT, SUCH AS WHEN DRIVING AT 60+ MPH ON THE FREEWAY, IS RATHER TERRIFYING. FURTHER, GIVEN THE LOW MILES AND YEARS ON THE CAR, RUNNING INTO SUCH A SERIOUS ISSUE IS RATHER UNSETTLING. *TR
I BELIEVE THAT UNINTENDED ACCELERATION CAUSED MY ONE VEHICLE ACCIDENT. I WAS REVERSING SLOWLY OUT OF A STEEP DRIVEWAY. ONCE OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE SO THAT I COULD SWITCH GEAR IN TO DRIVE. WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON BRAKE, THE CAR ACCELERATED BACKWARDS, AND I COULDN'T CONTROL IT. THE BRAKE WOULDN'T WORK. THE ACCELERATION WAS SO FAST, THAT WHAT STOPPED ME WAS HITTING A HORSE FENCE ACROSS THE STREET. I WAS GOING SO FAST, THAT I ENDED UP GOING AIRBORNE, AND ONLY DAMAGED THE TOP OF THE HORSE FENCE. MY FRONT PART OF MY CAR THEN FELL FORWARD AND BROKE THE TIE ROD IN HALF. I ENDED UP WITH WHIPLASH AND A CONCUSSION, REQUIRING POST-CONCUSSION SYNDROME PHYSICAL THERAPY FOR 4 MONTHS. I ASKED BMW FOR A SPECIAL INVESTIGATION INTO MY CAR TO SEE IF IT MALFUNCTIONED. MY CAR WAS NOT ALLOWED TO BE FIXED PRIOR TO THE INVESTIGATION AND HAD TO BE DONE AT A BMW DEALER, WHICH IT WAS. EVERYTHING WAS A SECRET WHEN BMW INVESTIGATED MY CAR. THE BMW DEALER SERVICE MANAGER WASN'T ALLOWED TO BE TOLD ANY FINDINGS OR WATCH THE INVESTIGATION. BMW SENT ME A LETTER AFTERWARDS STATING THAT THE CAR DIDN'T MALFUNCTION. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 33 YEARS WITHOUT ONE ACCIDENT OR TRAFFIC VIOLATION. I HAD DRIVEN THAT CAR FOR 4 YEARS AND I KNOW THAT MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE BUT I WAS ACCELERATING FASTER AND FASTER AND COULDN'T STOP THE CAR. I HAVE READ OTHER REPORTS OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND WHAT IS DESCRIBED IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. I AM LUCKY AND THANKFUL THAT NO CAR OR PERSON WAS BEHIND ME, BECAUSE I COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE. I WAS ONLY GOING ABOUT 5 MILES PER HOUR WHEN I PUSHED ON BRAKE, BUT UNINTENDED ACCELERATION HAD ME GOING IN REVERSE ABOUT 50 MILES PER HOUR UNTIL I HIT HORSE FENCE. THE BRAKES DIDN'T WORK. I HAVE PHOTOS OF HORSE FENCE AND BROKEN TIE ROD BUT ONLY ALLOWED TO UPLOAD 5 FILES.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
I WAS DRIVING AND JUST GOT OF THE FREEWAY, THE CAR WAS STILL ON BUT WOULD NOT MOVE DUE TO BAD WATER PUMP THIS WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IF I WAS ON THE FREEWAY IT WOULD HAVE JUST STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. $1350 TO FIX. THIS CAR IS THE BIGGEST PIECE OF JUNK THEY ARE MAKING THEM VERY POORLY, I 2 YEARS I'VE REPLACED ABOUT 20 TIRES ON THE RUN FLAT, WATER PUMP, FUEL PUMP (THROUGH RECALL) SOME BATTERY CABLE (THROUGH RECALL) ONE OTHER THE TURBOS, AND FUEL INJECTORS. *TR
CAR FRONT END SHAKING AND BANGING. BROUGHT TO REPAIR. WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE MOUNTING BOLTS WERE SHEARED OFF. NEED TO HAVE BOLTS REMOVED AND REPLACED. *TR
VEHICLE EQUIPPED WITH KEY ACTIVATED MEMORY SEATS. WAS USING SAME KEY FOB AS ALWAYS WHEN DRIVER SEAT BEGAN TO MOVE BY ITSELF INTO VARIOUS POSITIONS, ALL WHILE AT TURNPIKE SPEED. WHEN IT FINALLY STOPPED, SEAT WAS RETURNED TO PRIOR POSITION BY DEPRESSING MEMORY BUTTON, BUT BEGAN TO MOVE AGAIN ON ITS OWN SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. THIS ISSUE HAS CONTINUED NOW FOR SEVERAL WEEKS EVEN JUST DRIVING AROUND TOWN. THERE ARE NO OPEN RECALLS OR SERVICE BULLETINS, BUT IS A KNOWN ISSUE IF YOU GO TO THE ONLINE FORUMS. THIS PROBLEM PRESENTS A CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 BMW 3 SERIES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, SMOKE STARTED TO EMIT FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN ORDER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONCE THE HOOD OF VEHICLE WAS OPEN, HE OBSERVED FLAMES COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO STATED THE EMISSION VALVE OVERHEATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE R & R BATTERY, THE COMPUTER REGISTRY BATTERY, AND THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V044000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. I AM 5'2", FAT AND WANTED EITHER AN ON/SWITCH FOR MY FRONT DRIVER'S AIRBAG, OR I WAS GOING TO APPLY UNDER YOUR GUIDELINES TO HAVE THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG DISCONNECTED. BMW APPARENTLY CAN DO NEITHER SINCE THEIR AIRBAG IS TIED INTO ITS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. I HAVE GOTTEN NOTHING BUT A RUN AROUND REGARDING WHAT FOR ME IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I DON'T WANT TO BE DECAPITATED IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. DO YOU HAVE ANY ENFORCEMENT AUTHORITY OVER THIS THAT WOULD MAKE BMW COMPLY WITH YOUR REQUIREMENTS? *TR
I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTE CAMPAIGN NO. 14V-176 VANOS ASSEMBLY BOLTS ON MY 2010 BMW 328I IN JUNE. IT IS NOW THE END OF AUGUST AND I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT REPAIRS. THE NEAREST GARAGE HASN'T THE PARTS AND SAYS NOTHING OF THE SAFETY OF MY FAULTY VEHICLE OR WHEN PARTS MAY APPEAR. I DON'T KNOW IF I CAN SAFELY DRIVE THE CAR. I NEED TO USE IT, BUT THE LETTER SAYS IT CAN CAUSE A CRASH. HOW LONG WILL THIS CRAP GO ON? I TRIED TO CONTACT BMW CUSTOMER SERVICE OVER A WEEK AGO.....NO RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG AND RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED AND THE VEHICLE NEEDED AN OIL CHANGE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING AN ABNORMAL NOISE FROM THE ENGINE. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE VEHICLE SHOOK ABNORMALLY AND HAD ABNORMAL TIRE WEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DELEAR WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT VEHICLE NEEDED NEW TIRES AND AN ALIGNMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LUG NUT WHEEL BOLTS WERE LOOSE, THE VEHICLE NEEDED NEW TIRES AND AN ALIGNMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 47,000.
I WAS TRAVELING ON THE PA TURNPIKE NEAR THE QUAKERTOWN EXIT AT 75 MPH IN THE LEFT HAND LANE WHEN MY CAR SHUT DOWN AND CAME TO A STOP IN ACTIVE TRAFFIC. AS THE CAR WAS SHUTTING DOWN I HAD DIFFICULTY STEERING BUT WAS ABLE TO BRAKE. THERE WERE NO VISIBLE ERROR CODES OR LIGHTS TO INDICATE ISSUE. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO RESTART THE CAR, THE ENGINE WOULD ROLL BUT I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE. I CALLED 911 FOR ASSISTANCE. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT A STATE FARM HIGHWAY WORKER STOPPED TO PROTECT ME FROM HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC COMING UP BEHIND ME UNTIL I COULD BE SAFELY MOVED OFF OF THE ROAD. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO WEST GERMAN BMW IN FORT WASHINGTON, PA. COST FOR THE ABOVE SERVICE WAS PAID FOR BY BMW UNDER A "WARRANTY EXTENSION" AS THIS IS A "KNOWN ISSUE." I WAS UNAWARE OF THIS ISSUE AS NO RECALL OR SERVICE NOTICES HAVE BEEN SENT BY BMW TO INSPECT OR REPAIR FAILING FUEL LINES. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE THE ISSUES FOUND IN MY CAR ARE EXCEPTIONALLY SERIOUS AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A MAJOR HIGH SPEED ACCIDENT. FURTHERMORE THESE REPAIRS WILL APPEAR ON MY CARFAX AND WILL POSITION MY CAR TO OTHER BUYERS AS ONE WITH MAJOR ISSUES. DURING INSPECTION AND REPAIR PROCESS SEVERAL ISSUE WERE NOTED. 1. NO FAULTS WERE STORED IN THE VEHICLE. 2. UPON CHECKING THE FUEL PRESSURE, NONE WAS FOUND @ RAIL 3. UPON REMOVING THE FUEL TAN COVER THEY DISCOVERED THAT A HOSE POPPED OFF INSIDE THE TANK 4. AFTER REATTACHING, THEY WERE ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR, ONLY TO HAVE THE HOSE COME OFF AGAIN THE NEXT DAY AS IT WAS GOING THROUGH THE COURTESY CAR WASH 5. AFTER OPENING THE CAR AGAIN, THEY FOUND THAT THE FUEL LINE THAT WAS CLAMPED ON "LINE A" RUPTURED, FULL FUEL TANK AND ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT WAS NECESSARY. *TR
NOTICED THE PASSENGER SIDE BLINKER STARTED TO BLINK QUICKLY. THE BRAKES AND TAIL LIGHTS USE A BULB WHILE THE BLINKER HAS APPROXIMATELY 15 LEDS. THEREFORE THE ENTIRE LIGHT ASSEMBLY HAS TO BE REPLACED. SEVERAL OF THE LEDS DO NOT LIGHT UP AND THE ONES THAT DO ARE DIM. TWO WEEKS LATER THE DRIVER SIDE BLINKER DID THE SAME THING. THIS CONCERNS ME AS ANOTHER DRIVER MAY NOT BE AWARE THAT I AM TURNING UNTIL IT IS TO LATE. *TR

WHILE DRIVING TO WORK ON THE INTERSTATE MY CAR BEGAN TO HESITATE AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE PROBLEMS WITH HESITATION BECAME WORSE AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 50 MILES PER HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY AND WOULD ALMOST STALL WHEN I CAME TO A STOP. TOOK CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS A FAILINING IGNITION COIL IN CYLINDER #3 WHICH WAS REPLACED. ON 11/28 THE CAR STARTING DOING THE SAME THING. I HAD TO TAKE IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP THAT WAS CLOSER TO MY WORK BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ON THE HIGHWAY AND I FELT VERY UNSAFE. AT THIS TIME THE CAR HAS 53440 MILES ON IT. RIGHT OUT OF WARRANTY! I CALLED BOTH DEALERSHIPS AND COME TO FIND OUT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL BMW. I WAS CHARGED $681.06 FOR A KNOWN ISSUE AND THIS BEING THE 2ND TIME MY CAR HAS HAD THIS ISSUE. THIS TIME THE FAILURE WAS IN CYLIDERS 2 AND 6! AND WAS TOLD TO PAY TO REPLACE ALL AS THEY WILL CONTINUE TO FAIL! I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP BMW OF TOWSON AND NEVER RECEIVED A RETURN CALL. I SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CHARGED FOR THIS SERVICE AS BMW OF CATONSVILLE WOULD HAVE DONE THE REPLACEMENT FOR FREE AS THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. I COULDNT DRIVE ALL THE WAY TO BMW OF CATONSVILLE BECAUSE MY CAR WOULD NOW ACCELERATE ON THE HIGHWAY. I AM CONTINUING TO LOOK FOR A REFUND OF $681.06 AS I SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CHARGED FOR SOMETHING THAT BMW SHOULD HAVE RECALLED. *TR
DUE TO PREMATURE BUILD UP OF EXCESSIVE SOOT AND CARBON IN THE EGR, INTAKE MANIFOLD, AND INTAKE VALVES OF DIESEL ENGINES, IT WAS CAUSE ENGINE VIBRATIONS AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. WITHOUT COSTLY REPAIRS REQUIRING EGR CLEANING/REPLACING, INTAKE MANIFOLD CLEANING/REPLACING, AND CYLINDER HEAD CLEANING/ REPLACING, THE CAR WILL NOT PASS MANDATORY EMISSIONS TESTING. BMW NEEDS TO EXTEND THEIR WARRANTY TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE.

THE DRIVER SIDE TAIL LIGHT IS MALFUNCTIONING WHERE NOT ALL THE LEDS ILLUMINATE WHEN BRAKING OR USING THE TURN SIGNAL. THE TURNING SIGNAL ALSO OPERATES VERY RAPIDLY. I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY SO I CALLED BMW N.A. WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE AT ALL. THIS IS A CRITICAL SAFETY COMPONENT OF THE CAR THAT IS KNOWN TO BE DEFECTIVE, ITS COST IS EXPENSIVE AND SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN THREE YEARS. SINCE IT IS AN LED TYPE LIGHT, THE ENTIRE LIGHT ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AS THERE ARE NO STANDARD BULBS THAT CAN BE REPLACE BY THE OWNER. *JB

ON JAN 13, 2013 CUSTOMER WAS DRIVING VEHICLE AT CRUISE CONTROL AT SPEED SETTING 83 MPH ON TURNPIKE AT 11PM. SUDDENLY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, FOLLOWED BY A SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN ENGINE POWER OUTPUT. ENGINE WAS UNABLE TO HANDLE POWER REQUIREMENT TO KEEP CRUISE CONTROL SPEED AT 83 AND VEHICLE'S SPEED DROPPED TO LOW 70-IES MPH. ECU DID NOT DISENGAGE CRUISE CONTROL WHILE ENGINE POWER WAS REDUCED. SUDDENLY VEHICLE ACCELERATED UNCOMMENTED BACK TO THE SET CRUISE CONTROL SPEED OF 83 MPH. VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY SITUATION. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO BMW SERVICE ON JAN 16 2013 AND REMAINED THERE FOR OVER 2.5 MONTHS! MANY PARTS WERE REPLACED AND ENGINE LIGHT-ON EVENT WAS REPLICATED SEVERAL TIMES BY SERVICE MECHANICS. BMW CENTER MANAGER STATED "WE DO NOT WANT TO SELL YOUR CAR TO ANY OF OUR CUSTOMER, THEY MAY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS YOU HAD". IRONICALLY, VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO CUSTOMER ON MARCH 27, AFTER 70 DAYS OF REPAIRS AND TROUBLESHOOTING. CUSTOMER WAS SHOWN PICTURES BY SERVICE MANAGER OF CYLINDER HEAD, ONE OF THE MANY PARTS THAT WAS REPLACED, THAT WAS FULL OF GUNK AND CARBON BUILD UP. CYLINDER HEAD WAS THEN APPARENTLY MAILED TO BMW GERMANY FOR FURTHER ANALYSIS. BMW SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS PROBABLY NOT THE ONLY VEHICLE WITH THIS PROBLEM. . . . WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET WE SMELLED BURNING PLASTIC AND PULLED OVER TO INVESTIGATE. UPON PULLING OVER WE FOUND A SMALL FIRE WAS BURNING IN THE HEAD/FOG LIGHT AREA OF THE VEHICLE. ACCORDING TO THE INVOICE, THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE " HARDTOP ROOF SEALS WERE DEFECTIVE. SEALS WERE REMOVED AND REPLACED AT APPROX 18K MILES AFTER A TWO WEEK WAIT TO RECEIVE REPLACEMENT PARTS ORDERED FROM THE ONLY SUPPLIER IN GERMANY". (INCIDENT #2) A YEAR LATER, MAY 2013, ONCE AGAIN I BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE DEFECTIVE PARTS AFTER HEARING THE HINGE ON THE RIGHT (PASSENGER) REAR OF MY VEHICLE MAKING A GRINDING NOISE, GRATING AGAINST THE GLASS AS THE CONVERTIBLE COLLAPSED INTO THE TRUNK COMPARTMENT OF MY VEHICLE. THIS WAS A NOISE THAT SOUNDED AS IF THE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE, UPON CLOSING WAS TRUNCATING AND COLLAPSING WITHIN ITSELF. FEARING THAT THE ROOF WOULD COLLAPSE ON ME, I EXITED THE VEHICLE AND CLOSED IT UNTIL RECEIVING SERVICE. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED THAT I HAD ACCEPTED ANOTHER FAULTY BMW, AND UNCERTAIN HOW TO RATIONALIZE WHY THE DEFACTO EXPECTATION WOULD BE THAT THE "CONVERTIBLE" FEATURE WOULD BE THE "SAFEST FEATURE ON THE VEHICLE, AND KNOWING THAT THE "CONVERTIBLE" OPTION WAS THE MAIN REASON FOR PURCHASING THE VEHICLE MAY SOON BE MY MOST EXPENSIVE? THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE FOR THEIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM TO NOT DETECT THE FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO STATED THAT THEY WERE CLOSING THEIR CASE AND WOULD NO LONGER COMMUNICATE WITH THE CONTACT ABOUT THE SITUATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.

I HAVE A 2010 BMW 328I. THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE GAS PEDAL ARE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER. WHEN ENGAGING THE BRAKE, MY FOOT COMES IN CONTACT WITH THE ACCELERATOR AND I AM AFRAID THAT THIS MAY LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW 335I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH WITH THE HEAT ON, THE CENTER CONTROL PANEL BECAME VERY HOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURRED WHEN THE HEAT WAS ON AND FEARED THAT A FIRE COULD IGNITE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,800.
HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WENT OUT 2ND TIME IN 8 MONTHS. BRAND NEW CAR WAS LEASED IN MARCH 2010. FIRST HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WENT BAD AND WAS REPLACED IN JULY. THIS CAUSES A SAFETY HAZARD WHILE DRIVING. CAR SHUTS OFF AND ALL ELECTRONICS GO DEAD INCLUDING BREAK SYSTEM. I HAVE ALREADY COMPLAINED ONCE ABOUT BMW 335XI 2010 MODEL AND THERE HAVE BEEN HUNDREDS OF ONLINE COMPLAINS AS WELL. *TR
I WAS DRIVING NORTHBOUND ON A CROWDED STRETCH OF US101 IN A 2010 BMW 335I COUPE WITH LESS THAN 3200 MILES ON IT. MY CAR WAS MOVING AT ABOUT 65 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY I LOST ALMOST ALL ENGINE POWER, MAKING ACCELERATION IMPOSSIBLE. I HAD TO EASE MY WAY OFF THE HIGHWAY AND, AFTER STOPPING TO TAKE STOCK OF THE SITUATION, I DROVE HOME VIA SIDE STREETS. MY CAR CONTINUED TO SUFFER FROM LACK OF POWER ALL THE WAY BACK AND COULD BARELY ASCEND SOME OF THE HILLS. *TR
I OWN A JAN. 2010 BMW 335I WITH 5,800 MILES ON IT. WHILE DRIVING ON A FREEWAY, THE WARNING SYSTEM CAM ON AND READ THAT THE ENGINE WAS AT REDUCED POWER BUT I COULD CONTINUE DRIVING AT A REDUCED SPEED. AS I WAS READING THE NOTICE, THE ENGINE DIED AND I HAD TO GLIDE OVER 5 LANES WITH NO POWER TO REACH THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. WHEN THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP AND THE PROBLEM EXPLAINED, SOMEONE IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SUSPECTED IT WAS THE HIGH INJECTION FUEL PUMP BECAUSE THEY'VE HAD TO REPLACE OTHERS. THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. SO WHY ISN'T THERE A RECALL OUT ON THIS? I WAS TRAVELING 65 MPH AND COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED TRYING TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. *TR
REDUCED ENGINE POWER WHEN THE ENGINE LIGHT WARNING CAME. THE NEXT INCIDENT WAS ON 03/28/2011 MILEAGE AT 9008, THE SAME HAPPENED AT SPEED OF 65 WITH SUDDEN LOSS OF ENGINE POWER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 BMW 328I. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY WITH NO TRAFFIC, ALL WINDOWS CLOSED AND THE AIR CONDITIONER ACTIVATED WHEN HE HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION FOLLOWED BY AN ABNORMAL CRACKING SOUND. HE PROCEEDED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND THEN NOTICED THERE WAS AN ENORMOUS HOLE IN THE SUNROOF AND SHATTERED GLASS INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS NOTHING THAT COULD HAVE IMPACTED THE WINDOW TO BREAK IT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER ADVISED SOMETHING HAD IMPACTED THE WINDOW TO CAUSE THE FAILURE. UPDATED EVOQ 08/03/10.*JB
