THREE BMW HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE DOOR LOCKS. CONSUMER STATES THAT 2002, 2004, 2006 BMW HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE DOORS LOCKING AND UNLOCKING. *NJ THE 2004 BMW 545I PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT UNLOCK. THE DEALER STATED THE DOOR ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *JB
I OWN A 2004 BMW 545I SEDAN AND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON FOR A WHILE ALREADY, AND I READ ABOUT THE RECALL ON YOUR WEBSITE AND CALLED BMW NA AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY CAR WAS NOT UNDER THE RECALL. AND TOLD ME TO BRING IT TO ONE OF THE BMW DEALERS TO GET IT FIX WHICH I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR. I CHECKED AT ONE OF THE BMW DEALERSHIPS AND THEY TOLD ME IT WILL COST ME MORE THAN $1000.00 TO FIX THE PASSENGER\'S SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR. I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY MY CAR IS NOT UNDER THEIR RECALL LIST WHEN MY CAR MATCHES THE EXACT DESCRIPTION OF THE RECALL THEY ARE HAVING?! PLEASE HELP. THANK YOU! *TR
PASSENGER RESTRAINT MALFUNCTION ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. IT INDICATES THAT THE SEAT BELT LOCK AND/OR AIRBAGS MAY NOT WORK IN AN EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. WHEN I CALLED BMW, THEY TOLD ME THAT MY CAR IS NOT COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL AND IT WILL DEPEND ON MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP IF I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. *TR
THE PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT HALF A YEAR AGO WHEN THE PASSENGER AIR BAG ON/OFF LAMP ILLUMINATED FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND THEN WENT OFF, ALL WITH THE PASSENGER PRESENT IN THE CAR WITH THE SEAT BELT ON. A FEW DAYS AGO THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP AND THE PASSENGER AIR BAG ON/OFF LAMP ILLUMINATED WHILE THERE WAS NO PASSENGER IN THE CAR. THE MESSAGE INDICATED THAT THE AIR BAG MAY NOT WORK... THESE SYMPTOMS LOOK VERY SIMILAR TO THE PROBLEM IDENTIFIED IN ONE OF THE RECALLS FOR THIS CAR; HOWEVER WHEN I CALLED BMW, THEY INDICATED THAT MY CAR IS NOT PART OF THIS RECALL AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY TO FIX THIS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS BMW PASSENGER SENSOR MAT ACTIVATES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TO ALERT HIM THAT THE AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V384000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL), ALTHOUGH THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 BMW 525I. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR CONSISTENTLY ILLUMINATES ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL, WHICH INDICATES THAT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS INOPERATIVE. AS A CONSEQUENCE, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY EVENLY IN THE EVENT OF A SERIOUS CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V384000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL); THEREFORE, HE IS NOT ENTITLED TO A FREE REMEDY AS REFERENCED IN THE RECALL. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 BMW 5 SERIES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE. THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR DISPLAYED "PASSENGER AIR BAG SYSTEM FAILURE." THE DEALER STATED THAT THE COST TO REPAIR THE FAILURE WOULD EXCEED $1,400. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 55,000. UPDATED 01/07/09. *LJ UPDATED 01/08/09. *JB
MY 2004 BMW 525I TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED. I WAS DRIVING AND HAD STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND ATTEMPTED TO PROCEED AND THE CAR INCHED OUT AND JUST STOPPED.. I ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT AT THAT TIME BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD NOT PROCEED IN THE INTERSECTION.. A MESSAGE ON THE DASH READ THAT THE "TRANS DRIVE SAFE DRIVE MODERATELY" OR SOMETHING TO THAT EFFECT. WHEN I GOT TO MY DESTINATION I TURNED THE CARE OFF. THE NEXT TIME I STARTED THE CAR THE MESSAGE WAS GONE UNTIL ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER. I LOOKED UP ANY INFORMATION THAT I COULD FIND ON BMW TRANSMISSIONS AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS CONSUMERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED OR ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS AND ARE DESPERATE FOR HELP. THE MAIN MALFUNCTION AT THIS POINT IS THAT THE CAR IS SLUGGISH AT TAKE OFF AND DEFINITELY WILL NOT GO INTO REVERSE AND THE DEALER HAS TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS SHOT. DRIVING THIS VEHICLE IS VERY DANGEROUS AND AT ANY TIME, UNKNOWINGLY THE TRANSMISSIONS ON THESE CARS CAN FAIL. PEOPLE DRIVING THESE BMW'S WITH FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BEFORE SOME ONE IS SERIOUSLY HURT. I AM STILL PAYING ON THIS AUTOMOBILE IT'S FOUR YEARS OLD AND IT HAS FAILED WITH A MAJOR PROBLEM. PLEASE GO TO CONSUMER AFFAIRS ON THE INTERNET AND YOU WILL SEE THE NUMEROUS PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE SAME COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS EXPENSIVE AUTOMOBILE THAT HAS FAILED AND CONSUMERS HAVE TO PAY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO GET REPAIRS DONE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 BMW 530I. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN 45-50 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT HEATING SYSTEM ACTIVATED. THEN EXCESSIVE HEAT WAS EXPELLED FROM THE LEFT SIDE CORNER OF THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT BACK-REST. THE HEAT MELTED A SMALL HOLE IN THE SEAT COVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. HE EXPERIENCED AN IDENTICAL FAILURE REFERENCED IN RECALL # 04V575000 (SEATS:FRONT ASSEMBLY:SEAT HEATER/COOLER). SINCE HIS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL, HE WAS INELIGIBLE FOR A FREE REMEDY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 108,000.
DRIVING NORTH ON I-77 IN S.C. - TRAVELING ALONG WITH THE TRAFFIC FLOW - LEFT HAND LANE - SUDDENLY ALERT LIGHTS CAME ON THAT ABS WAS NOT OPERATING, BATTERY ALERT (HAD BATTERY INSTALLED AT DEALERSHIP) ETC.- ENGINE QUIT - DASH BOARD WENT BLANK - WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE CURB LANE (NO TURN INDICATORS) CAME TO STOP - TRIED TO RESTART -NO LUCK -WAIT MAYBE 10 MINUTES IT RESTARTED -DROVE HOME -APPROX ANOTHER 200 MILES -DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM - IT COULD HAVE BEEN A DANGEROUS SITUATION IF SOMEONE PANICKED. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 BMW 5 SERIES. THE CONTACT NOTICED A BURNING SMELL AND FELT SOMETHING BURNING HER LEG. SHE SUSTAINED BURNS TO HER THIGH AND BUTTOCKS AREA DUE TO THE SEAT WARMER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS UNABLE TO ASSIST. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO LOCATE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V384000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL) FOR THE SAME YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL VEHICLE. SHE ALSO STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WAS INOPERABLE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HER TO EXPECT A RECALL ON THE AIR BAG; HOWEVER, WITHOUT A RECALL, THEY COULD NOT ASSIST. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO OPEN RECALLS BASED ON HER VIN, BUT NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V575000 (SEATS:FRONT ASSEMBLY:SEAT HEATER/COOLER) WAS REFERENCED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 54,000.
BMW X5 ACCELERATOR FAILED TO RESPOND AFTER STOP AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS. IT MOVED FORWARD SLOWLY FOR ABOUT 20 YDS. BEFORE DECIDING TO ENGAGE...THIS HAPPENED THREE TIMES, CONSECUTIVELY, AT THE END OF DRIVE HOME. AROUND NOON ON TUESDAY OCTOBER 14, 2008. THE DAY BEFORE THE INTERNAL DOOR LOCK BUTTON FAILED TO FUNCTION. CALLED BMW DEALERSHIP AND HAD IT TOWED. BMW CONTINUE TO TEST BUT WAS INFORMED LAST EVENING THAT THERE APPEARED TO BE NOTHING WRONG WITH VEHICLE ACCORDING TO THE COMPUTER! THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND BMW [CENTRAL] HAVE NOT BEEN SUPPORTIVE SO FAR. I HAVE ASKED THAT THE CAR BE FIXED AND THAT I BE SUPPLIED WITH A LOANER UNTIL THEN. *TR

ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS MOVED BACK AND FORTH, THE HEADLIGHTS FLASHED ON AND OFF, THE ODOMETER DIAL MOVED FROM SIDE TO SIDE, AND THE ALARM SOUNDED. ALL OF THE FAILURES OCCURRED AUTOMATICALLY. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL READ, "VEHICLE MALFUNCTION, SEE DEALER IMMEDIATELY". THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TWICE. THE FIRST TIME THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE SECOND TIME THEY STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $2,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
FOR THREE YEARS BLUE SMOKE OCCASIONALLY COMES FROM EXHAUST IN SPITE OF MAJOR ENGINE REPAIR. ELECTRICAL PROBLEM FOR 1 AND 1/2 YEARS RESULTS IN CAR NOT STARTING HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIRS 4 TIMES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 BMW 530I. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONTAL AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE INDICATOR REMAINED LIT UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THERE WAS AN OCCUPANT SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AT THE TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE FRONT SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V384000 (AIR BAGS, FRONTAL), ALTHOUGH THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT ACCEPTED BY THE SYSTEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 BMW 530I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG INDICATOR SYSTEM IS DEACTIVATED AND REMAINS ILLUMINATED. THEREFORE, THE AIR BAGS WOULD NOT DEPLOY. THE SENSOR UNDERNEATH THE PASSENGER SEAT HAS CRACKS IN IT AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR WOULD COST BETWEEN $1,300-$1,600. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V384000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
2004 BMW 530I. CONSUMER STATES ISSUES WITH TRANSMISSION *TGW CONSUMER SENT ADDITIONAL LETTER *TGW ON JUNE 25, 2008 THE CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION INDICATOR LIGHT BEING ON. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE RE-STARTED TO RESET THE LIGHT. THE TECHNICIAN HOOKED THE VEHICLE UP TO THE DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT AND THERE WERE NO FAULTS FOUND IN THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE. IT WAS NOTED HOWEVER, THAT THE TRANSMISSION PAN WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE TRANSMISSION. JULY 15, 2008 THE TRANSMISSION PAN WAS REPLACED ALONG WITH THE SEALING SLEEVE. APRIL 10, 2010, THE CONSUMER STATED THE TRANSMISSION WAS OPERATING IN FAIL SAFE MODE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE 40 MPH. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND BASED UPON THE FAULT CODE THAT WAS FOUND, THE TRANSMISSION WAS NO LONGER OPERATING PROPERLY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE AT THAT TIME. *JB

THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR WOULD CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL, WHICH INDICATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG WAS INOPERATIVE. HE CALLED THE DEALER IN REFERENCE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V384000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WERE WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WERE IN THE PROCESS OF CREATING A VIN RANGE AND WILL THEN SEND OUT RECALL NOTICES. THE VEHICLE COULD BE REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $3,000, AFTER WHICH THE CONTACT COULD INQUIRE ABOUT REIMBURSEMENT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
I HAVE A 2004 BMW 530I WITH "RUN FLAT" TIRES. THE REAR SET OF TIRES OUTSIDE TREAD SEEMED TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION AND THE FRONT TIRES WERE ALSO IN GOOD SHAPE HOWEVER, WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN TO ROTATE THE TIRES THE REAR SET OF TIRES WERE COMPLETELY WORN ON THE INSIDE AND THE TREAD WAS BEGINNING TO SEPARATE FROM THE REST OF THE TIRE. THIS WAS THE AN OBSERVATION MADE BY THE SERVICE MANAGER, SUSAN, AT ROUSE TIRES IN OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA. AS OF 5/1/2008, I HAVE REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES. *TR
I JUST BOUGHT A 2004 BMW 530I WITH ONLY 27,000 MILES BUT THAT PASSENGER SIDE SENSOR THAT DETECTS WHETHER THE SEAT IS OCCUPIED WAS NOT FUNCTIONING SO THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ON. WE HAD TO PAY CLOSE TO A THOUSAND DOLLARS TO INSTALL A NEW SENSOR. MY COMPLAINT IS TO KNOW WHY A MANUFACTURER IS NOT RESPONSIBLE TO MAKE SURE THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM IS WORKING PROPERLY WHEN THE CAR IS SO NEW. BMW NORTH AMERICA WAS VERY EVASIVE WHEN CONTACTED BUT THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY THAT HAD EXPIRED FIVE MONTHS AGO. *TR
2004 BMW 525I AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON*CW THE CONSUMER STATED 7 TO 8 MONTHS LATER, THE AIR BAG LIGHT HAD ILLUMINATED AGAIN. SEVERAL DAYS LATER, THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER IN THE MAIL. THE CONSUMER WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE SENSOR AGAIN AND SAID EVERY THING WAS OK. THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON AGAIN. *JB
WHILE DRIVING, THE SEAT HEATER BURNED A HOLE IN THE LEATHER SEAT, RESULTING IN IGNITION OF DRIVERS CLOTHING (LEATHER JACKET AND SUIT COAT), WHICH CAUGHT FIRE. ATTEMPTS TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES RESULTED IN HEAT BLISTERS AND BURNS TO DRIVERS HANDS, DAMAGE TO CAR, SMOKE DAMAGE, AND DAMAGE TO PERSONAL ATTIRE, LOSS OF WORK HOURS, ETC. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED, HOWEVER, THE RECALL OF THE FRONT SEAT HEATER WAS, OBVIOUSLY, NOT COMPLETED BY THE DEALERSHIP PRIOR TO VEHICLE PURCHASE. *TR
(NOTE: THIS PROCESS DOES NOT LIST THE 2004 BMW 745I) I PURCHASED MY 2004 745I AS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED VEHICLE FROM A LOCAL BMW DEALER IN OCTOBER 2007. SINCE THEN ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE STEERING HAS TOTALLY LOCKED. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHEN ENTERING OR EXITING A PARKING SPACE AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED COMPLETELY TO THE LEFT (COUNTER CLOCKWISE) POSITION. THE DEALER CANNOT DUPLICATE THE CONDITION AND THERE IS NO ERROR CODE RECORDED IN THE OBDI. ON TWO OF THE OCCASIONS I HAD TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND THEN RESTART THE CAR TO FREE THE STEERING. ON THE LAST OCCASION THE STEERING WAS RESTORED AFTER ABOUT 30 SECONDS WITH THE ENGINE STILL RUNNING. ON A FOURTH OCCASION THE STEERING WAS DIFFICULT AND SLUGGISH BUT RETURNED TO NORMAL A FEW SECONDS LATER. I HAVE A GREAT FEAR THIS WILL HAPPEN WHEN I'M TRAVELING ON THE ROADWAY AND NOT JUST IN MY DRIVEWAY OR A PARKING LOT. THE DEALER INSISTS THAT THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING TO ACCOUNT FOR MY EXPERIENCES. *TR
ENGINE TAPPING/KNOCKING ON FIRST DRIVE OF DAY. 8 SERVICE VISITS. SERVICE BY BMW CONFIRMED "NOISE IS NOT NORMAL." ESCALATED TO BMW NA 3 TIMES. FIRST SERVICED UNDER BMW ORIGINAL WARRANTY. BMW CLAIMS JUST A NOISY ENGINE BY DESIGN. EVEN THOUGH BMW CLAIMED IT WAS NORMAL, BMW COULD NOT TELL ME WHAT IT WAS OR COMING FROM. BMW IS NOT COMPLIANT IN PERFORMING UNDER THE NEW CAR WARRANTY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 BMW 530I. SHE NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT IS CONSISTENTLY ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATING THAT THE AIR BAG IS INOPERATIVE FOR THE PASSENGER FRONT SEAT. A TECHNICIAN AT THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS STATED THAT FOR UNKNOWN REASONS THE AIR BAG SENSORS ARE NOT PROPERLY DETECTING THE OCCUPATION TO ACTIVE THE AIR BAG. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR THAT PART FOR MY MAKE MODEL AND YEAR BUT BMW NORTH AMERICA CLAIMS THAT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT ON THE LIST EVEN THOUGHT MY MAKE MODEL AND YEAR IS A PART OF THE RECALL. PART OF THE REASON FOR BUYING THE VEHICLE WAS FOR ITS SAFETY, AND THE CONSEQUENCES OF US NOT HAVING AN AIRBAG AVAILABLE SHOULD THERE BE A CRASH COULD BE CATASTROPHIC. I PURCHASED A CERTIFIED CAR FROM BMW ON 11-17-06 WITH 49,761 MILES. IN ADDITION I PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE FOR AN ADDITIONAL 2 YEARS OR 50,000 MILES FOR A TOTAL WARRANTY OF 6 YEARS OR 100,000 MILES. JUNE 2007. WHEN STARTING THE CAR, THE VEHICLE'S ELECTRONIC SYSTEM ISSUED ALERTS, AND INTERRUPTED FUNCTION OF SEVERAL SUBSYSTEMS INCLUDING THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS, ELECTRONIC DISPLAY, ENVIRONMENTAL, AND REDUCED STEERING. THE DISPLAY FLASHED, "CONTINUED DRIVING NOT POSSIBLE" AND THEN FURTHER ALERTS. THE CAR WAS PARKED OUTSIDE IN A HEAVY RAIN WHEN THE WATER ENTERED THE CAR. THE BMW CENTER EXAMINED THE CAR AND STATED THAT WATER HAD ENTERED THE CAR THROUGH A UNKNOWN LOCATION. THE REAR RIGHT PASSENGER SEAT, REAR RIGHT PASSENGER FLOOR, AND TRUNK WERE FILLED WITH WATER. THE PLACEMENT OF THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL SYSTEMS WAS IN TO BOTTOM OF THE TRUNK. THAT IS WHERE ALL THE WATER COLLECTED AND CAUSE MAJOR ELECTRICAL DAMAGE. BMW STATED THAT THE ITEMS WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND I HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE CONTROL UNIT WAS MOVED FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE TRUNK TO PREVENT THIS ISSUE IN THE FUTURE. THE CAUSE OF THE FLOOD WAS NOT IDENTIFIED. CAR PARKED IN GARAGE GOING FORWARD. SECOND MAJOR INCIDENT OCT 2011 . WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED IN A HEAVY RAIN, WATER ENTERED THE CAR AND FLOODED THE CAR. UPON ENTERING THE CAR,I NOTICED THE WET ROOF LINER. MOISTURE WAS CONCENTRATED IN ONE SPOT. I CALLED BMW TO ASK IF THE WINDOW, DOOR, OR SUNROOF COULD BE DAMAGED AND CAUSE THE FLOOD IN MY CAR. THEY SAID YES AND TO BRING THE CAR IN FOR DIAGNOSIS. I ASKED IF THIS WAS CHECKED THE FIRST TIME THE CAR FLOODED AND THE ANSWER WAS NO. ADDITIONAL RESEARCH UNCOVERED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THE SUNROOF DRAIN LINES CLOGGING AND CAUSING THE EXACT SAME INTERAL ELECTRICAL AND WATER DAMAGE THAT HAPPENED TO MAY CAR. THE DRAIN SYSTEM IS CONCEALED WITHIN THE ROOF AND IS NOT ACCESSIBLE TO CAR OWNER. THE COMBINATION OF THE DEFECTIVE DRAINAGE SYSTEM AND THE PLACEMENT OF THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL SYSTEMS AT THE POINT OF WATER COLLECTION PRESENTS A SAFETY HAZARD. AFTER TWO DAYS OF TELLING ME THAT THEY HAD FOUND NO DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE, THE DEALER ADVISED THAT IT WOULD NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY BECAUSE THEY FOUND SIGN OF IMPACT TO ANOTHER, UNRELATED PART ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR. *JB

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE WAS NO LONGER WORKING PROPERLY. THE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYED ONE QUARTER OF A TANK AND A HALF OF TANK; HOWEVER, THE FUEL TANK WAS EMPTY AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE I-DRIVE SOFTWARE OBVIOUSLY HAS A LOT OF "BUGS" THE LATEST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 12/13/05, WHEN PRESSING THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROL BUTTONS, THE MODE (FM/AM/CD) WOULD NOT CHANGE; THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM THAT HAS GONE ON FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. IN ADDITION, MOST TIMES WHEN I START THE CAR IN THE MORNINGS, THE RADIO STATION FREQUENCY DOES NOT APPEAR IN THE DISPLAY UNLESS I CHANGE THE STATION. PRESSING THE UP/DOWN STATION BUTTON DID NOT WORK EITHER. AS I WAS NEARBY MY DEALER, I STOPPED BY SO A SERVICE REP COULD DOCUMENT THE PROBLEM. HE DOCUMENTED THE PROBLEM AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR ME TO BRING IN THE CAR ON 12/21/05. ON 12/21/05, THE CAR WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY KEPT IT THROUGH 12/22. THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I SPOKE WITH BOTH THE SERVICE MANAGER AND THE LEAD SERVICE TECH. TOLD THEM THAT I WORK IN IT AND THAT IT APPEARS THE SOFTWARE MUST HAVE A BUG, SINCE THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. THE LEAD SERVICE TECH SAID THAT RELOADING THE SOFTWARE AT THIS TIME WOULD NOT HELP, AS TO HIS KNOWLEDGE, THE SOFTWARE HASN'T BEEN UPDATED IN MONTHS. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I'VE EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE I-DRIVE SYSTEM.
