TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 550I SERIES. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INDICATING THAT THE WARNING HYDRAULIC STEERING MALFUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE HE WAS TOLD THAT THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE THE COMPUTERIZED STEERING COLUMN CHIP. HE WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WOULD BE A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE AND HE SHOULD WAIT FOR THE RECALL NOTICE BEFORE THEY CAN REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED AND STATED THAT THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THE RECALL AND OFFERED NO OTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
I OWN A 2007 BMW 530I. WATER CAN GET BELOW THE TRUNK OF THE VEHICLE WHERE A RDC MODULAR IS LOCATED AND CAUSE THE RDC TO FAIL. THIS RDC FAILURE IN TURN CAN CAUSE YOUR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TO FAIL. THIS HAPPENED TO ME AND AS OF TODAY, BMW ONLY REPLACED THE RDC, ON MY DIME OF COURSE EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A CPO WARRANTY. WATER CAN COME FROM CLOGGED DRAINS AT THE SUNROOF AND OTHER PLACES. BMW KNOWS OF THIS ISSUE AND DOESN'T WANT TO FIX THIS ISSUE. IT APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW. AFTER REVIEWING BMW FORUMS, THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH MANY PEOPLE. *TR
2007 BMW 525 HAS A MESSAGE INDICATING THE STEERING LOCK IS ACTIVATED. MESSAGE WILL NOT GO AWAY. BMW INDICATES THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM BUT IS NOT COVERED OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR
I HAVE JUST SUFFERED MY SEVENTH CRACKED WHEEL IN 13K MILES / 18 MONTHS! ACCORDING TO WHEEL WIZARD IN ATLANTA, THEY SEE AN INORDINATE NUMBER OF BMW 550I, M5S, 650I, M6, 750I CARS. THEY SUBCONTRACT FOR ALL THE MAJORS - PORSCHE, JAGUAR, BMW, FERRARI ETC. WHEEL WIZARD BELIEVES THAT THE BMWS (PARTICULARLY WITH RUN FLATS), CHOSE AN ALLOY FOR THE WHEEL THAT IS DEFECTIVELY SOFT OR AND PRONE TO CRACKING GIVEN THE WEIGHT, POWER AND SUSPENSIONS ON THESE CARS. I AGREE!! 7 TIMES IN 18 MONTHS. I WORK OUT OF MY HOUSE AND DO NOT DRIVE MY CAR HARD. OVER THE LAST 30 YEARS I'VE BEEN DRIVING, I'VE OWNED MERCEDES (CLK430), JAGUAR (XK8), TOYOTA, 3 FORD SUVS, AN INFINITI AND HAVE NEVER HAD A SINGLE CRACKED WHEEL OR RIM IN 30 YEARS! (IF IT WERE MY DRIVING - THERE WOULD BE AT LEAST ONE OTHER INSTANCE IN 30 YEARS). BUT NOT ONCE. NOW, SINCE NOVEMBER 2009, I'VE HAD 7 CRACKED OR BENT RIMS! THIS IS BEYOND STATISTICAL PROBABILITY OF JUST BAD LUCK. I HAVE HAD OTHER BMW DRIVERS TELL ME SIMILAR STORIES. A VERY GOOD FRIEND HAD A 650I THEN AN M6 - HE HAD BENT OR CRACKED RIM PROBLEMS ON HIS BMWS. A FRIEND HAS A 550I - HE HAS HAD BENT OR CRACKED RIMS IN THE FIRST 12 MONTHS. WHEEL WIZARD, WHEN I WAS IN LAST TIME, SAID THEY HAD SEEN 5 TO 7 5, 6 AND 7 SERIES IN THE PREVIOUS 5 DAYS. AND THEY SAID THAT BMW HAS AN UNUSUAL HIGH FREQUENCY OF BENT AND CRACKED RIMS ON THE 5, 6 AND 7 SERIES POST 2005 MODELS. TODAY, THE MANAGER SAID HE THOUGHT BMWS, PARTICULARLY THOSE WITH RUN FLAT TIRES, EXPERIENCE A MUCH GREATER THAN NORMAL BENT AND CRACKED RIM PROBLEM (SOMETHING THAT MAKES HIS BUSINESS MONEY - REPEAT PROBLEMS). I AM HOPING THE NTSB WILL OPEN UP AN OFFICIAL INVESTIGATION. BMW NATIONAL TRIED TO TELL ME THEY HAVE GOOD ENGINEERS. I RESPONDED, THAT'S WHAT TOYOTA SAID TOO WHEN THEY DENIED SAFETY PROBLEMS EVEN THOUGH WE NOW KNOW THEY WERE LYING. THAT'S WHAT FORD SAID WHEN PEOPLE WERE HAVING HIGH NUMBER OF ROLL OVER CRASHES IN THEIR SUVS. YOU CAN'T TRUST THESE CAR COMPANIES. PLEASE INVESTIGATE! *TR
FUEL LEAKS IN GARAGE AFTER FILLUP OF EMPTY TANK. OCCURRED AFTER TEMPERATURES BELOW 20 DEG F. *TR
I HAVE A 550I WITH THE SPORT PACKAGE. BOTH REAR TIRES WORE OUT THE INNER 1/4" OF TIRE COMPLETELY WHILE THE OUTER, AND THE VISIBLE PORTION OF THE TREAD HAD PLENTY OF DEPTH LEFT (APPROX 4/32" OR MORE). THE RIGHT TIRE WAS SLIGHTLY WORSE AND BLEW OUT ON THE HIGHWAY CAUSING A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE LEFT WEAR WAS VERY CLOSE. ALIGNMENT IS WITHIN THE BMW SPECS. HOWEVER, THE REAR NEGATIVE CAMBER SPECIFICATION IS JUST TOO HIGH, AND THE REAR SUSPENSION DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH ADJUSTMENT TO REMOVE SOME OF THE NEGATIVE CAMBER. BMW SHOULD SPECIFY A TIGHTER TOLERANCE FOR THE REAR CAMBER ON THESE CARS (IN PARTICULAR, THOSE WITH THE SPORT SUSPENSION), AND SPECIFY LESS NEGATIVE CAMBER IN THE REAR. ADDITIONALLY, THERE NEEDS TO BE A WAY TO REMOVE MORE CAMBER OUT OF THE REAR TIRES THAN THE STOCK SUSPENSION ADJUSTMENTS ALLOW. *TR
2007 BMW 530XI, HAS WATER LEAKING ONTO REAR FLOOR FROM ROOF DRAIN BEHIND SUNROOF. THIS ROOF DRAIN REQUIRES THE SUNROOF TO BE REMOVED, HEADLINER TO BE TAKEN DOWN AND RUBBER PIPES TO BE CHANGED IN ORDER TO ENSURE PROPER DRAINAGE. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN FLAW AND IS SOMETHING THAT BMW SHOULD BE COVERING THE REPAIR FEES FOR INSTEAD OF CHARGING $700 TO FIX. THE WATER IN THE CAR DAMAGES THE ELECTRONICS UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT WHICH CAUSES SAFETY ISSUES WITH THE AIRBAGS ETC. BMW IS STATING THAT THIS IS A MAINTENANCE ISSUE WHICH SEEMS STRANGE AS I HAVE NEVER HAD TO PAY $700 TO FIX A ROOF DRAIN ON ANY OTHER VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED IN THE PAST. A 2007 BMW 530XI CAUGHT FIRE SHORTLY AFTER IT WAS STARTED. THE LAMP CONTROL MODULE BURNED, CAUSING SPARKS, SMOKE, AND BURNING VARIOUS PARTS. THE MECHANIC AT CHAMBERS BMW SAID THAT THE LEFT FRONT HEAD LIGHT COLLECTED MOISTURE, AND THE LIGHTS DRAIN CLOGGED. THE ACCUMULATED MOISTURE CAUSED THE FIRE. THE CAR HAS AHISTORY OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. IN DEC. 2008, 1 YEAR PRIOR TO THE FIRE, THE REAR SUNROOF DRAIN CLOGGED, CAUSING WATER TO COLLECT IN THE SPARE TIRE WELL. IT CAUSED THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT TO FALSELY SIGNAL, AS RDC MODULE HAD BURNED OUT. THERE WERE OTHER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, WHICH REQUIRED A RADIO REPLACEMENT. A FEW DAYS BEFORE THE FIRE, THE DASHBOARD SIGNAL FOR ENGINE OVERHEATING WENT ON DURING A COLD WINTER DAY. WE TOWED THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHO CLAIMED HE FIXED IT. TWO DAYS AFTER WE GOT THE CAR BACK, MY WIFE TURNED IT ON, STARTED TO DRIVE, AND THE FIRE STARTED. *TR
GAS ODOR IN GARAGE; SEALS LEAKING ON THE FUEL TANK; SEALS REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 530I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) I ([XXX]) AM FILING A COMPLAINT ON BEHALF OF MY MOM ([XXX]) WHO OWNS THE 2007 BMW 530I IN QUESTION (VIN #: [XXX]). ENGLISH IS NOT HER PRIMARY LANGUAGE. ACCORDING TO MY MOM'S ACCOUNT, ON 11/10/2009 SHE PULLED HER CAR INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND WAITED FOR THE GARAGE DOOR TO OPEN. BUT AS SHE LET GO OF THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE VERY QUICKLY WITHOUT HER INTENTION. SHE TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKES, BUT THE CAR'S MOTOR WAS JUST TOO POWERFUL TO PREVENT THE CAR FROM CONTINUING TO ACCELERATE INTO AND ALMOST THROUGH THE GARAGE WALL. WE REPORTED TO BMW OF NORTH AMERICA AND ASKED THEM AT THE TIME WEATHER UNINTENTIONAL ACCELERATION AND OR SOME PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONICS GOVERNING THE CAR'S ACCELERATOR WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACCIDENT AND THEY TOOK THE VEHICLE, TESTED IT, AND CONCLUDED THAT THE VEHICLE'S DIAGNOSIS RETURNED NO SUCH ERROR. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT WITH DRIVE BY WIRE TECHNOLOGY AND ALL THE ELECTRONICS GOVERNING THE CAR, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN SOME SOFT OF A SHORT-CIRCUITING OR PROBLEMS WITH IT. THEY TOLD US THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD FIND WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS MY MOM'S FAULT AND THAT SHE MIGHT HAVE MISTAKENLY PUSHED THE WRONG PEDAL, WHICH MY MOM VIVIDLY REMEMBERS SHE DID NOT BECAUSE ONCE THE CAR ACCELERATED SHE QUICKLY TRY TO PUSH THE BRAKES, WHICH WERE OVERPOWERED BY THE CAR. OUR INSURANCE HAD TO PICK UP THE BILL. I UNDERSTAND THAT BMW WOULD NOT BE WILLING TO ADMIT FAULT IMMEDIATELY AND IT IS ALSO POSSIBLE THAT THE DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM CANNOT DETECT SUCH PROBLEMS. HAVE HAD THIS BMW 550I FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS, AND IN THAT TIME I'VE HAD 3 BENT WHEELS AND ONE CRACKED WHEEL. I HAVE CARS WITH SIMILAR, ALUMINUM ALLOY RIMS AND LOWER PROFILE TIRES ON THEM - AND HAVE NOT BENT OR CRACKED A WHEEL ON THE OTHER CARS. THE REAR WHEEL CRACKED, BUT IT WAS ALONG THE INNER EDGE - AND WAS NOT NOTICED. THE ONLY REASON IT WAS CHECKED WAS BECAUSE THE TIRE KEPT LEAKING AIR. 2007 BMW 525I WITH AIRBAG SYSTEM ISSUE (WARNING LIGHT ON). I HAVE SEEN THIS BMW RECALL ON MANY MODELS AND YEARS, HOWEVER I AM STILL WAITING ON MINE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP IN GETTING THIS RESOLVED. *TR
NOT PRECISELY SURE WHAT IS CAUSING THIS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM, BUT ALL 3 OCCURRENCES OF THIS PROBLEM HAVE HAPPENED AFTER I WASHED THE VEHICLE AND DID NOT DRIVE IT. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS MALFUNCTIONING TO THE POINT IT COMPLETELY DRAINS THE VEHICLE'S BATTERY. AFTER THE SECOND TIME I WENT TO START THE VEHICLE, I HAD THE BATTERY REPLACED. THE 3RD TIME, ALL OF THE VEHICLE EXTERIOR LIGHTS HAD TURNED THEMSELVES ON DURING THE COURSE OF THE NIGHT, AND HAD ALMOST FULLY DISCHARGED THE BATTERY. THE CAR STARTED, BUT MANY ITEMS IN THE ELECTRONIC MEMORY WERE LOST, INCLUDING DATE AND TIME. THE CAR INVOLVED IS A 2007 BMW 528I, WHICH I PURCHASED 3 MONTHS AGO, CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED. *TR
CLICKING NOISE ON CAR OFTEN. AFTER RESEARCHING THERE WERE MORE COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENING WITH OTHER BMW'S. WAS TOLD BY THE BMW SERVICE CENTER THAT THE LIFTERS NEED REPLACING. THERE ARE FAULTY LIFTERS ON THE CAR COULD EVENTUALLY RUIN THE ENGINE HEAD. *TR
PANORAMIC MOONROOF SHATTERED WHILE DRIVING - BMW FIXED AT NO COST. I HAD JUST CLOSED THE SHADE PRIOR, AND IF HAD NOT, WOULD OF FALLEN ON ME WHILE DRIVING. *TR
THE CONTINENTAL TIRES AKA AS " CONTITOURING CONTACT CV95" ARE WEARING OUT PRETTY BAD WITH JUST 23000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE NOTICED WAVING INSIDE THE WALLS OF THE TIRES AND ONE OF THEM ACTUALLY STARTED TO COME APART. I HAVE BEEN DOING RESEARCH ON LINE REGARDING THIS PARTICULAR TIRE FROM CONTINENTAL WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINS AS MINE, AND IT APPEARS CONTINENTAL IS BLOWING PEOPLE OFF, AND THE AUTO DEALERS ARE NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY EITHER. AS FOR ME I BELIEVE THE TIRE SENSOR ON MY BMW COULD HAVE SAVE OUR LIVES. UPON GETTING A TIRE PRESSURE READING I PULLED OVER, FELT THE TIRES AND FOUND THE LEFT REAR TIRE WITH RIPPLES AND THE INSIDE TREADING COMING APART. I HAD JUST BEEN TRAVELING AT SPEEDS OF UP TO 70 MILES WITH MY WIFE AND CHILDREN IN THE CAR. I HAVE CONTACTED CONTINENTAL VIA E-MAIL AND DO NOT EXPECT ANY RESPONSE SINCE SIMILAR PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED AND I HEAR CONTINENTAL TIRES IS NOT RESPONDING TO PEOPLE'S CONCERNS. WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ON THE NYS THRUWAY, I HIT A VERY SMALL POTHOLE AND BOTH RIGHT SIDE TIRES RUPTURED AT THE TIRE BEAD. AT LEAST TWENTY OTHER CARS PASSED OVER THE SAME POTHOLE AND NO DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THEIR TIRES. THE TIRES PARTIALLY SEPARATED FROM THE RIMS MAKING DRIVING THE EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS. EVEN THOUGH THE CARS HAS RUN FLAT TIRES, THE TIRES SEPARATED SO FAR FROM THE BEAD IT MADE DRIVING THE CAR DANGEROUS. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME SMALL OBJECTS IN THE ROADWAY CAUSED THESE RUNFLAT TIRES TO RUPTURE DANGEROUSLY ON VERY SMALL POTHOLES. HAD I CONTINUED DRIVING ON THEM AS STATED BY BMW, THEY WOULD HAVE SEPARATED FROM THE RIMS AND CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *TR
MY 2007 BMW 530XI'S AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SLAMS AS DOWN SHIFT FROM 2ND TO 1ST GEAR. THIS HAPPENS DURING STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AND WHEN THE TRANSMISSION GETS HOT. IT FELT LIKE I GOT REAR ENDED EVERY TIME. THE CAR JERKS SO HARD, IT FEELS LIKE I GOT WHIPLASH. MY WIFE REFUSE TO DRIVE THE CAR AND THINK THE CAR HAS BRAKE DEFECTS. I WENT TO THE DEALER AT LEAST 5 TIMES AND STILL NO RESOLUTION. BMW OFFERED 2 SOFTWARE UPDATES AND IT DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 525I. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SLIP. THERE WAS ALSO A VERY LOW POWER RESPONSE WHEN ACCELERATING. THE WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THEY DETECTED FAILURE WITHIN THE COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AGAIN. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
REAR TIRES ON MY 2007 BMW 550I WEAR DANGEROUSLY LOW ON THE INNER TIRE VS. THE PART YOU CAN SEE. *TR
ON SEPTEMBER 16,2009 I WAS INVOLVED IN AN AUTO COLLISION IN MY 2007 BMW 525I SERIES. I WAS STOPPED AT A FREEWAY EXIT OFF THE 405 S. WHERE SUDDENLY A VEHICLE THAT WAS DOING A SPEED OF NO LESS OF 50-60 MPH COLLIDED INTO THE BACK DRIVERS SIDE PASSENGER DOOR WHICH RESULTED ME TO BE PUSHED FORWARD AT LEAST 75-100 FEET. THE FORCE AND IMPACT OF THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS SO SEVERE, THAT IS CAUSED THE OTHER VEHICLE TO FLIP OVER MULTIPLE TIMES AND LAND ABOUT 100 YARDS AWAY FROM IMPACT. WITH SUCH AN IMPACT AND THE SPEED OF THE OTHER CAR WITHOUT HITTING THEIR BREAKS AT ALL, YOU WOULD THINK THAT NOT ONLY THE FRONT DRIVER, PASSENGER, OR REAR PASSENGER AIRBAGS (ESPECIALLY THAT WAS WERE THE IMPACT WAS) THAT THE AIRBAGS WOULD DEPLOY. THAT IS NOT THE CASE. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND THIS IS A MAJOR CONCERN. I AM VERY LUCKY THAT I ONLY SUFFERED INJURIES AND NOT DEATH AND THAT GOES FOR THE PASSENGER IN THE CAR WITH. I AM ALSO THANKFUL THAT I DID NOT HAVE MY 5 MONTH OLD BABY IN THE BACKSEAT. IF SHE WAS IS THE BACKSEAT SHE WOULD HAVE NOT HER LIFE BECAUSE NO AIR BAG DEPLOYED. I WAS MADE AWARE THAT OVER 200,000 BMW WERE RECALLED FOR MODELS OF 2005-2006. APPARENTLY BMW HAS NOT RESOLVED THE ISSUE FOR 2007 AND POSSIBLY 2008 OR 2009. THIS IS A SERIOUS MATTER AND MUST BE LOOKED INTO. PLEASE TAKE MY EMAIL SERIOUSLY AND TO THE HEART BECAUSE NO ONE SHOULD LOSE A LIFE DUE TO INCOMPETENCE OF A MAJOR AUTO MANUFACTURER ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE SEEMS TO BE A RECALL TO PREVIOUS YEARS AND EXACT MODELS. I DO NOT BELIEVE BMW IS MAKING THE NECESSARY CORRECTIONS OR ADJUSTMENTS TO THIS DEFECT WHICH MAY CAUSE UNNECESSARY INJURIES AND/OR DEATHS. I PURCHASED A NEW 2007 530I WITH LIGHT ALLOY RIMS AND "RUN FLAT" TIRES FROM WEATHERFORD BMW IN BERKELEY, CA. IN JUNE 2008, WITH ONLY 10836 MILES ON MY ODOMETER I WAS ADVISED THAT I HAD TO HAVE MY TWO REAR RIMS REPLACED AT $491.19 EACH FOR A TOTAL OF $982.38. THE PART NUMBER FOR THESE RIMS ARE 36-11-6-760-616. I WAS NOTIFIED BY MY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC THAT SOME OF THE RUBBER ON THE MY REAR TIRE TIRE WAS SEPARATING AND FLAPPING THUS THE NOISE IN MY REAR TIRES. WHEN I TOOK MY VEHICLE FOR TIRE REPLACEMENT AT THE TIRE FIRM, I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE SAME TWO RIMS THAT WERE REPLACED IN 2008 AT 10836 MILES WAS CRACKED (NOW AT 77633 MILES). I ATTEMPTED TO RESOLVE THIS MATTER WITH THE BMW DEALER BUT WAS PROMPTLY DISMISSED BY THE SERVICE TECHNICIAB AND TOLD "TOUGH LUCK" AND IF I WANTED 2 NEW RIMS, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM. SINCE THESE RIMS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO MY PERSONAL SAFETY AND I FIND IT VERY DIFFICULT THAT AS BAD AS THE HIGHWAYS IN CALIFORNIA ARE NOT A+, THAT THESE RIMS WOULD FAIL AT 10,836 MILES OF NORMAL DRIVING EVEN WITH THE "RUN FLAT" TIRES. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURER'S SAFETY ISSUE SINCE THIS SITUATION APPEARS TO BE ALMOST A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE SAME VEHICLES, ALL WITH MANUFACTURER'S RIMS. SINCE THE SAFETY OF THE PASSENGERS DEPENDS ON THE DEPENDABILITY OF THE RIMS AND TIRES I FEEL IT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED BY YOUR DEPARTMENT. *TR

WHENEVER THE CONTACT PLACES A COOLER OR ANYTHING THAT WOULD POSSIBLY LEAK THROUGH THE CARPET IN THE TRUNK OF THE VEHICLE, THE LIQUID BUILDS UP IN THE TIRE BASE WHERE THE MAIN WIRING FOR THE ELECTRICAL MODULE IS LOCATED. THE FAILURE EVENTUALLY CAUSES THE WIRES TO SHORT CIRCUIT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT SERVICED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 5,918 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,718.

I LEASED A BMW 328I ON 02/07/07. IT IS A BRAND NEW MODEL WITH A NEW ENGINE THAN BMW 325, ACCORDING TO THE SALESMAN. ON 02/16/07, WHILE I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AT THE RED LIGHT, I FOUND OUT THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START MOVING WHEN THE GREEN LIGHT WAS ON. THE CAR WAS STOPPED ON THE ROAD AND I HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS GOING ON. LOTS OF CARS WERE BEHIND ME AND SPEEDING PAST MY CAR. I WAS VERY UPSET AND I GOT THE 800 TOLL FREE NUMBER FOR BMW'S FREE TOWING SERVICE FROM MY SALES PERSON VIA PHONE. THE FIRST LADY WHO ANSWERED THE PHONE TOLD ME TO CALL 911 AFTER A FIVE MINUTES TALKING TO ME WITH LOTS OF QUESTIONS. A NICE GENTLEMAN HELPED ME TO PUSH MY CAR TO A SAFETY STORES PARKING LOT. SO I CALLED 800 BMW TOW LINE NUMBER AGAIN. THE CAR WAS ACTUALLY TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP BY BMW 1-800 FREE TOW LINE AFTER A 3-HOUR'S WAITING TIME. THE SALESMAN HAD TO SEND HIS ASSISTANCE TO DELIVER ME ANOTHER USED CAR DUE TO I WAS IN A HURRY TO PICK UP MY SON FROM SCHOOL. I WAS THEN TOLD ON 02/17/07 FROM THE SALES PERSON THAT THE FUEL SENSOR IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT. IT WILL STOP ITS SENSOR FUNCTION AT THE LAST QUARTER OF THE FUEL INDICATOR. SO I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITHOUT KNOWING THERE WAS NO MORE FUEL INSIDE THE CAR BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT STILL HAD A QUARTER FUEL IN THE TANK. I WAS SO SCARED TO HEAR IT AND I TOLD HIM THAT THIS FUEL SENSOR DEFECT MIGHT KILL MY LIFE IF I WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON THE FREEWAY AT THAT TIME WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED. SO I REFUSED TO TAKE BACK THE VEHICLE AND REQUESTED FOR EXCHANGING FOR ANOTHER CAR. BUT BMW REJECTED MY REQUEST BECAUSE "IT'S JUST A MINOR PROBLEM AND THEY ALREADY FIXED IT, " ACCORDING TO THE SALES PERSON'S MESSAGE TO ME ON MY CELL PHONE LAST NIGHT. I DON'T WANT TO BE TESTED FOR BMW TO SEE IF THEY REALLY FIXED THE FUEL SENSOR PROBLEM. IT'S VERY RISKY TO USE MY LIFE TO TEST FOR BMW WHETHER NEW SENSOR PUT ON MY VEHICLE IS ANOTHER DEFECT OR NOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ARMONK GARAGE AND THEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE SERVICE MECHANIC STATED THE ONLY VISIBLE DAMAGE WAS THAT THE LICENSE PLATE HAD A SCRATCH. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOUND THAT THE AIRBAGS WENT OFF IMPROPERL,Y AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD GIVE HIM ANOTHER VEHICLE WITHOUT CHARGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT 2 MONTHS LATER THE MANUFACTURER CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND INFORMED HIM THAT THEIR INVESTIGATION SHOWED THE AIRBAGS DID DEPLOY PROPERLY. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE INSURANCE COMPANY, AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOOK CARE OF THE CLAIM ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AS OF TODAY HE STILL HAS NOT RECEIVED ANOTHER VEHICLE. HE ONLY HAD POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE FOR 1 WEEK AND THAT THE AIRBAGS SHOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED WITH SUCH A SMALL IMPACT.*AK
