I WAS DRIVING HOME STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT , THEN TURNED GREEN WENT TO ACCELERATE CAR TOOK OFF AND LOST ALL POWER WOULD NOT MOVE PRESSING ACCELERATOR AND 2 SEMI TRUCKS COMING REAL FAST FROM CROSS TRAFFIC ALMOST KILLED ME LIGHT TURNED RED FOR ME AND GREEN FOR SEMI TRAILERS WITH NO TIME TO EXIT CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW 5351. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SHUDDERED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF A MISFIRE CYLINDER # 2. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. AN UNKNOWN DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SUBJECTED TO A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
MY SEAT WAS SMOKING AND SOON TO CATCH FIRE IF I HADN'T CAUGHT THIS. WHAT SHOULD I DO TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE?
VEHICLE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR MAT (SRS) FAILURE. 2ND TIME THIS SAFETY RELATED SENSOR HAS FAILED. FIRST TIME DEALERSHIP REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. DEALERSHIP WANTS TO CHARGE FOR REPLACEMENT NOW. THIS IS A SAFETY RELATED ITEM AND IT HAS FAILED FOR THE SECOND TIME. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT SAME ITEM HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR PRIOR MODELS AND YEARS. I BELIEVE THIS ITEM SHALL BE RECALLED. *TR
FOR OVER THE PAST YEAR, THE (SMALL) ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN REPEATEDLY & CONSTANTLY GOING ON/OFF. I'VE HAD SENSORS, SPARK PLUGS, TUBES & EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN REPLACED AND HAVE TAKEN (OR TOWED IN MOST CASES) THE CAR TO MANY DIFFERENT AUTO REPAIR SHOPS FOR MULTIPLE QUOTES & REPAIRS. THE LATEST PROBLEM IS THE SMALL ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON & THE CAR WAS STUCK IN PARK AND WOULD NOT ENGAGE IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. IT WOULDN'T SHIFT. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN, THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS COMPLETELY GONE & THE CAR WAS FINE TO DRIVE/REVERSE. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR A FEW BLOCKS, THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION/REDUCE SPEED LIGHT CAME ON, THE POWER WAS DRASTICALLY REDUCED & I ALMOST GOT HIT BY A DUMP TRUCK. IN 2008, I BOUGHT MY BMW BRAND NEW BECAUSE I WANTED NO CAR ISSUES BECAUSE I AM NOT A MECHANIC. EVERY SINCE I BOUGHT THIS CAR I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT REPEATED & DIFFERENT ISSUES THAT NO MECHANIC CAN IDENTIFY. AND IT ALL STARTED WITH THE HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WHICH WAS REPLACED THREE TIMES (HPFP). AFTER THE THIRD HPFP WAS REPLACED, AND THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP LITERALLY FOR THREE MONTHS STRAIGHT, I GOT A LAWYER INVOLVED AND BMW CORP APOLOGIZED & SAID I COULD HAVE A CHOICE OF: 1/ GETTING A DIFFERENT CAR THAT THEY PICKED OUT (A 535I NOT THE XI I BOUGHT BECAUSE OF SNOW AND ICE CONDITIONS) 2/ THEY CUT ME A CHECK FOR A FEW THOUSAND AND TOLD ME TO SHUT UP AND I COULD NEVER SPEAK OF WHAT HAPPENED OR BE PART OF FUTURE LAWSUITS OR CLASS ACTIONS. I'VE NEVER FELT SAFE DRIVING MY 2008 BMW (116K MILES ON IT OVER 12.5 YEARS) EVERY BMW OWNER THAT BOUGHT A BMW BETWEEN THE RANGE OF YEARS KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT RE: THE CONSTANT AND NEVER-ENDING ISSUES THAT ALL START WITH THE HPFP & ESCALATE FROM THERE. REPAIR SHOPS CAN'T FIX THE ISSUES & BMW COVERS UP. NHTSA HASN'T DONE ANYTHING ABOUT THIS MASSIVE BMW ISSUE AFFECTING THE VAST MAJORITY OF OWNERS. JUST GOOGLE IT!
I WAS DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY BMW STARTED SHAKING AND WHEN I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE AND OPENED MY HOOD THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW 528I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATED, THAT THE PASSENGER RESTRAIN SYSTEM WAS DEACTIVATED AND TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR MAT WAS DEACTIVATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V564000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 119,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW 535XI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ENGINE MISFIRED THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER BMW OF COLUMBIA LOCATED AT (1900 I70 DR. SW, COLUMBIA MO) WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE CYLINDER NUMBER 4 MISFIRE WAS DUE TO DEFECTIVE FUEL INJECTORS. THE FUEL INJECTORS WERE REPLACED AND THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,450.
VEHICLE STALLS, HESITATES WHEN DRIVING. MESSAGE ON THE DASH SAYS THAT THE FUEL PUMP IS FAILING, BUT CAN BE DRIVEN WITH DECREASED PERFORMANCE AND TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO BMW. BROUGHT THE CAR TO BMW SERVICE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FUEL PUMP BUT MY CAR IS NOT COVERED BECAUSE I HAVE 159K MILES ONE THE SAID VEHICLE. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION WITH THE SERVICE ADVISOR, (CARLOS - NORWALK BMW), WHO IS POLITE AND HELPFUL, WE FOUND THAT THE CAR HAD ALREADY BEEN SERVICED FOR THREE SAME PROBLEM AT LEAST 3 TIMES. FIRST IS IN 2009 WHEN THEY REPLACED THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. AFTER FOLLOA YEAR 2010, THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN REPLACED THE SAME FUEL PUMP. THEN ON 2013, HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE INJECTORS BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURRING. THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN ONGOING AND THIS TIME, THEY WILL NOT FIX THE ISSUE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS OVER THE 120K MILES. I BELIEVE THAT BMW IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROBLEM THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER PROPERLY FIX IN THE FIRST PLACE. AT LEAST 3 TIMES OF HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM (THAT WAS DOCUMENTED BY BMW), AND STILL NOT RESOLVED! IT IS A GOOD CAR, BUT CAN BE DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I WILL NOT LET MY WIFE DRIVE IT ANYMORE UNTIL I FEEL IT IS SAFE. PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. AT LOW SPEED, IDLING, AND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHICH CAN BE REALLY SCARY. I HOPE THEY WILL TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND ACTUALLY FIND AND FIX THE ISSUE.
87,000 MILES WARNING LIGHT PASSENGER AIR BAG NOT ENGAGED AND MAY CAUSE DAMAGE. QUOTED $1800 BMW CERTIFIED MECHANIC TO REPLACE, FIX. LOOKING FOR RECALL AS MANY OTHERS EXPERIENCED THE SAME. WAS TOLD THAT YOU CAN'T TELL WHETHER THE AIRBAG WILL INFLATE OR NOT. AGAINST THE LAW TO DISCONNECT THE LIGHT. UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE WITHOUT TAKING THE SEAT APART.
THE NORTH AMERICAN BMW HAD RECALLED THE 2004-2006 BMWS WITH THE FAULTY PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY MAT, AS THEY HAD A RECURRING PROBLEM OF FAILING. BMW STATED THAT THEY "IMPROVED THE QUALITY OF MATERIALS, AND FIXED THE PROBLEM", BUT IT SEEMS THAT OTHER BMW OWNERS STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM INCLUDING MYSELF. MY BMW ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO HAD THE PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY WARNING LIGHT COME ON, AND I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT THEY "FIXED" THE ISSUE, BUT MOST LIKELY INSTEAD OF ACTUALLY TAKING THE TIME TO IMPROVE THEIR PRODUCT, THEY PROBABLY JUST SLAPPED A NEW LABEL ON IT AND CALLED IT A DAY. AND WHAT EVEN MORE ANNOYING IS THE COST OF REPLACEMENT PARTS, WHICH ALONE COST UPWARDS OF $900. YOU WOULD THINK THAT FOR $900 THE PAST WOULDN'T HAVE A PROPENSITY TO BREAK. THE NEWER MODELS THAT STILL HAVE THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER RECALL OR AT LEAST HAVE A REDUCED PRICE TO COMPENSATE FOR THE POOR CRAFTSMANSHIP OF A PRODUCT KNOWN TO FAIL.
SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR MALFUNCTIONING
I NOTICE MY CAR TAKING LONGER TO START WITH THE PUSH BOTTOM THEN I NOTICE A STRONG SMELL OF GAS WHILE THE AC STARTED SO I CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD AND THE SMELL GOT STRONGER. SO NOW I WANT TO NOW WHY IT'S HAPPENING. THANKBUOU
WHEN AT A STOPLIGHT OR STOP SIGN, THE CAR WILL SHUT OFF AND THE TRANSMISSION GOES INTO NEUTRAL.
ONE DAY THIS WINTER, I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND SUDDENLY IT SMELT LIKE SOMETHING BURNING. THINKING IT WAS AN OUTSIDE ELEMENT, I THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT. A WEEK LATER, I SMELT THE SAME BURNING SO I GOT OUT OF MY CAR TO INSPECT AND FOUND THREE HOLES WERE BURNT STRAIGHT THROUGH MY LEATHER DRIVER SEAT AND ALSO BURNED RIGHT THROUGH MY WINTER JACKET!! THIS WAS DUE TO AN ISSUE WITHIN THE HEAT TRACKING IN MY SEAT. I BROUGHT WHAT HAPPENED TO BMW NORTH AMERICA, TO WHICH THEY TOLD ME THAT DUE TO MY CARS "AGE AND MILEAGE", THAT THIS WAS A *AND I QUOTE* "WEAR AND TEAR" ISSUE. I'M SORRY, BUT THE LAST TIME I CHECKED, NATURAL WEAR AND TEAR SHOULD NOT CAUSE A HAZARDOUS SITUATION FOR THE DRIVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. THIS WAS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND IT SHOULD BE RECALLED. THE FACT THAT BMW WAS SO UNWILLING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE HARMFUL SITUATION THAT THIS DEFECT PUT ME IN, (FOR INSTANCE, IF I HAD NOT BEEN WEARING MY THICK WINTER JACKET, WHICH SHIELDED ME FROM BEING BURNED WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY) IS BEYOND DISAPPOINTING.
CAR REDUCED POWER, SHAKES AND WILL NOT RUN ANYMORE. IS SO UNSAFE TO BE DRIVING THIS SPECIALLY IN THE FWY VERY SCARY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW 535XI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. AN UNKNOWN DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS HUNG UP ON. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
ALL OF THE INTERNAL HEADLIGHT WIRING INSULATION ON BOTH HEADLIGHTS IS CRUMBLING OFF WHICH IS EXPOSING THE COPPER WIRE, CAUSING SPARKS AND SHORTING OUT. I HAVE PERFORMED MUCH ONLINE RESEARCH AND APPARENTLY THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BY BMW. CURRENTLY IT'S A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT'S UNPREDICTABLE WHEN HEADLIGHTS WILL SHORT OUT WHILE DRIVING, LOSING SIGHT OF THE ROAD AND POSSIBLY INCREASING RISK OF ACCIDENT.
WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO INSTALL NEW LOW BEAM, HIGH BEAM, AND ANGEL EYE BULBS I DISCOVERED THAT ALL THE PROTECTIVE COATING ON THE WIRES INSIDE THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY WAS MISSING OR CRUMBLING OFF. THESE EXPOSED WIRES ARE A CERTAIN FIRE HAZARD. ANY ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE WIRE COATING RESULTED IN MORE COATING CRUMBLING OFF, EXPOSING YET MORE OF THE WIRE.
FAULT IN PASSENGER-RESTRAINT SYSTEM AFFECTING AIRBAG, BELT TENSIONER OR BELT-FORCE LIMITER. THIS STARTED HAPPENING A YEAR AGO AFTER VISITING DEALERSHIP FOR OIL CHANGE. I CANNOT HAVE PASSENGER NEXT TO ME BECAUSE WE ARE AFRAID OF MALFUNCTION IN AIRBAG SYSTEM.

THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED EXCESSIVE SMOKE ENTERING THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE AIR VENTS AND THICK, WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM THE TAILPIPE. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO THE FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V683000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 198,278.
IN MY 2008 528I I WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME AS MANY OTHERS WHERE IF YOU ARE AT A COMPLETE STOP AND YOU GO TO ACCELERATE THE CAR DOESN'T RESPOND RIGHT AWAY AND YOU NATURALLY APPLY MORE GAS AND THEN THE CAR JUMPS AHEAD OF YOU. IF YOU WERE TO MOVE TO THE D/S POSITION, THE CAR WAS PERFECT AND YOU DIDN'T EXPERIENCE ANY LAG IN ACCELERATION, SEEMS PEDAL HAS TO BE PRESSED MORE THAN IT SHOULD BEFORE GETTING AN IMMEDIATE THROTTLE RESPONSE. LIKE A SMALL DEAD SPOT, I SUPPOSE. ONLY IN NORMAL MODE. NO LAG IN SPORT MODE. RESPONSE IS IMMEDIATE. IT HAS SCARED ME A FEW TIMES WHEN PULLING OUT FROM A STOP SIGN INTO TRAFFIC, THINKING YOU HAVE PLENTY OF TIME AND EASE ONTO THE ACCELERATOR ONLY TO FIND YOURSELF MOVING LIKE A SNAIL, THEN HAVING TO STOMP ON IT TO GET MOVING AS TRAFFIC NEARS.

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR FACILITY FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT THE RESULTS WERE UNKNOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V683000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), BUT THE CONTACT DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTIFICATION. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN DUE TO THE FAILURES. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000.
DRIVING IF FREEWAY 65 MPH, ALL THE SUDDEN CAR STALLED LOST POWER I DROVE IT OFF THE FREEWAY THE STEERING WHEEL WAS VERY HARD TO TURN, TRY TO STARTUP THE CAR DID NOT START CALLED AAA FOR TOW TRUCK AFTER 15 MIN I START THE CAR, START FINED AND NO PROBLEM, TO BMW USA MADE APPOINTMENT WITH BMW DEALER 4 DAYS LATER WAS AVAILABLE FOR SERVICE, THE DAY BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT, AFTER DROPPED MY DAUGHTER THE CAR STALLED IN MIDDLE OF THE STREET CAUSE BAD TRAFFIC CALLED TOW TRUCK AGAIN WAITED AFTER 15 MIN STARTED EVERYTHING WAS FINED BUT I TOW IT TO BMW DEALER TO CHECK IT. IDRIVE SHOULD FUEL PUMP ONCE FLASHED. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS .
I HAVE A HARD TIME ACCELERATING
THE ELECTRIC WATER PUMP FAILED. THE SYSTEM DID NOT SHOW ANY VISIBLE WARNING ON THE DASHBOARD AT TIME OF FAILURE EVEN THOUGH THE ECU REGISTERED A FAILURE CODE INTERNALLY WHEN IT DETECTED THAT THE PUMP HAD STOPPED WORKING (AS COMPARED TO MILEAGE/TIMESTAMPS FROM DIAGNOSTIC CODES AT THE TIME OF FAILURE). SOME TIME LATER SUDDENLY THE SYSTEM DISPLAYED AN ENGINE OVERHEAT WARNING AND LOST POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. DRIVING AT ABOUT 35-40MPH ON A LOCAL HIGHWAY.
The daylight lamps fall apart causing poor lighting at night and continuous alarms while driving. Also, impacting the quality of light and lack of lighting at night. The alarms are continuous and block ALL other alerts from the vehicle, including cruise control, temperature, overheating, engine, and other notices.
CURRENTLY HAVING ISSUES WITH A WASTEGATE RATTLE ON TURBOS. ROUGH ENGINE IDLE. HAVING MULTIPLE MISFIRES, AND STUCK OPEN FUEL INJECTORS. CAUSING TAILPIPES TO EXCESSIVELY SMOKE (WHITE COLOR) WHILE GOING INTO LIMP MODE COULD NOT GO PAST 20MPH AND SURGING. ISSUES HAPPEN WHEN STATIONARY AND WHILE DRIVING. HAD TO GET VEHICLE TOWED HOME. 'FUEL INJECTOR RECALL 16E-A01 'HPFP RECALL- COULD NOT FIND NUMBER 'TURBO RECALL- COULD NOT FIND NUMBER
DRIVING FAMILY DOWN THE HIGHWAY AROUND 65 MPH. I LOOSE ALL POWER IN THE CABIN. THE CAR STARTS THROWING ALL WARNING LIGHTS, ABS, STEERING,SWAY CONTROL, TRANSMITION, ETC. ENGINE STILL RUNNING WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL HAD TO USE E BRAKE TO PULL OVER THEN IT WANTED TO KEEP GOING HAD TO TURN CAR OFF TO STOP IT. CALLED TOW TRUCK SENT FAMILY HOME.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND LOCAL STREETS THE CAR SUDDENLY LOSES POWER AND CUTS OFF GIVING A FUEL PUMP MALFUNCTION. I HAD THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP REPLACED AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THIS HAS PUT MY WHOLE FAMILY IN DANGER BECAUSE IT HAS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 50 MPH. THE CAR JUST SUDDENLY SHUT DOWN.
WEDNESDAY JULY 25TH, 2018, AS I WAS GETTING READY TO LEAVE WORK, I STARTED MY CAR WHICH WAS PARKED IN MY COMPANY'S UNDERGROUND GARAGE AND THE INTERIOR BECAME ENGULFED WITH SMOKE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND GOT OUT TO CHECK THE ENGINE. THERE WAS NO SMOKE COMING FROM THE UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR. I GOT BACK INTO THE CAR AND STARTED IT AGAIN AND MORE SMOKE ENTERED INTO THE CAR. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WENT BACK TO MY OFFICE TO CALL AAA. APPROXIMATELY 20-30 MINUTES LATER I WENT BACK TO THE CAR AND IMMEDIATELY SMELLED SMOKE IN THE GARAGE. AS I APPROACHED THE CAR IT WAS COMPLETELY FILLED WITH SMOKE BUT I COULD TELL THAT THE BOTH THE BACK AND FRONT WINDOW SHIELDS AND THE SUNROOF WERE SCORCHED. MY KEY FOB DID NOT WORK SO I HAD TO OPEN THE CAR WITH THE KEY. WITH THE DOOR OPEN THE THICK SMOKE ESCAPED AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO SEE THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR AS A RESULT OF A FIRE. I HAVE ATTACHED SOME PICTURES SO YOU CAN SEE. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SOME INSTANCES WHERE THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER BMW OWNERS IN THE PAST AND THAT THIS WAS A COURSE OF ACTION TO TAKE IN LETTING YOU KNOW.

THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OR A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW 528I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE BRAKE LIGHT AND TURN SIGNAL FAILED TO ILLUMINATE WHEN ENGAGED. A WARNING INDICATOR FOR THE REAR DRIVER SIDE EXTERIOR LIGHTING ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE TURN SIGNAL INDICATOR FLICKERED RAPIDLY ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, BUT FAILED TO ILLUMINATE ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V407000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
AIR BAG SENSOR FOR FRONT PASSENGER SEAT NOT WORKING. REPLACED ONCE WHILE VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY. SAME SENSOR MALFUNCTION AGAIN. BMW WILL NOT REPLACE UNLESS I PAY, COST OF REPLACING SENSOR OVER 4,000.00. I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE COVERED BY BMW SINCE SAME PART IS AGAIN NOT WORKING.
THE WIPERS KEEP STOPPING, NOT FUNCTIONING, I HAD REPLACED THE MOTOR THREE TIMES NOW.
HEADLIGHT WIRING INSIDE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY IS DETERIORATING BADLY. THE PROTECTIVE COATING IS CRACKING AND FLAKING OFF LEAVING THE EXPOSED COPPER CORE WHICH IN TURN SHORTS OUT THE LIGHTS. POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD AS WELL.
FUEL SENDING UNIT CRACKED LEAKING FUEL AND SMELL. REPLACED AT BMW DEALERSHIP.
CAR STARTED SMOKING. REPAIR SHOP SAID IT'S A PROBLEM WITH PCV VALVE AND IF OVER HEATED CAN CAUSE FIRE.
INSULATION ON WIRING INSIDE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY HAS FALLEN OFF EXPOSING BARE WIRES. THIS WAS DISCOVERED WHEN REPLACING BULBS. DISCUSSION BOARDS ON WEB HAVE MANY OWNERS REPORTING SIMILAR PROBLEMS. BMW DOES NOT

REPLACED HEADLIGHT BULB, PASSENGER SIDE, FOR THE SECOND TIME, WITHIN THE PAST YEAR, AND ABOUT THE FIFTH TIME (DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE; HEADLIGHT BULB AND ANGEL EYE BULB) SINCE WE HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE (PURCHASED CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED FROM A BMW DEALERSHIP, HOUSTON, TX). AND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM IS INFERIOR WIRING INSULATION. THE WIRING INSULATION IS DETERIORATING CAUSING THE BULBS TO PREMATURELY BURN OUT AND A POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD. THE REPLACEMENT BULBS ARE PURCHASED FROM A LOCAL BMW STORE. THEY ARE NOT NON-OEM BULBS AND THEY ARE NOT CHEAP. BMW NEEDS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT UNIT.
TIP IN AS IT IS CALLED, LAG IN THE RESPONSE TIME FROM WHEN YOU STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL TILL THE CAR ACTUALLY TAKES OFF. ALSO PASSENGER SIDE SEAT SENSOR SENSING SOMEONE IS THERE WHEN THEY ARE NOT CAUSING THE FASTEN SEAT BELT ERROR TO CONTANTLY GO OFF.
POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV) VALVE HEATER. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PART NEED TO FIX THIS RECALL IS STILL NOT AVAILABLE. MY CAR HAS A BURRING SMELL COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF MY CAR.

ON 01/26/2018 I WENT TO EAST BAY BMW BECAUSE OF THE PCV VALVE HEATER RECALL CAMPAIGN B 11 16 17 I WAS GIVEN A LONG TERM RENTAL FROM ENTERPRISE CAR RENTAL BUT HAD TO STORE MY VEHICLE AT MY HOME WHILE WAITING FOR THE PARTS FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. AFTER 4 MONTHS I WAS NOTIFIED TO RETURN FOR THE REPAIR ON 04/30/2018 EAST BAY RETURNED THE CAR. WITH-IN 2 DAY'S I WAS HAVING THE O2 SENSOR REPLACED FROM A CERTIFIED BMW MECHANIC AND AFTER EXAMINATION HE INFORMED ME THE RECALL CAMPAIGN WAS NOT PERFORMED ACCORDING BULLETIN. ORIGINAL PARTS FROM THE ALTERNATOR WERE STILL ON MY CAR AND HAD NEVER BEEN REMOVED. REMOVING THE ALTERNATOR AND REPLACING THE BOLTS, CHECKING/REPLACING PARTS FOR DAMAGE WAS NEVER PERFORMED. I RETURNED TO EAST BAY THE FOLLOWING SATURDAY TO CONFRONT THE MANAGER WORKING HIS NAME IS [XXX], HE ADMITTED TO HAVE A MECHANIC WHO COULD REACH TO REPLACE THE VALVE HEATER WITHOUT REMOVAL OF THE OTHER PARTS SPECIFIED IN THE CAMPAIGN. THE INTAKE IS AN ALTERNATE ROUTE FOR THE REPAIR BUT WOULD COMPROMISE MY ENGINE. I PLACED A CALL TO BMW USA AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED AND PARTS/PAPERWORK RETURNED BY EAST BAY FOR THE RECALL WERE STILL ON MY CAR AND A EMISSION PROOF OF CORRECTION WAS NEVER RECEIVED. I WOULD RETURN TO EAST BAY AND SPEAK WITH THE STORE SERVICE MANAGER [XXX]. I INFORMED HIM WHAT HAPPENED AND REQUEST TO HAVE THE RECALL RE-DONE AT A DEALER OF MY CHOICE, HAVE A SMOG TEST, RECEIVE PROOF OF CORRECTION AT HIS COST. I ALSO HAD HIM WARRANT MY ENGINE FOR 2 ADDITIONAL YRS FOR COMPROMISING MY ENGINE AS HE COULD NOT DEMONSTRATE THE WAY THEY DID THE RECALL WHEN I REQUESTED. MY CAR WENT TO BMW OF SF FOR RECALL TO BE DONE ACCORDING TO THE BULLETIN, I HAVE ATTACHED INVOICES, PROOF OF CORRECTION, SMOG TEST, ENGINE WARRANTY AND METHOD OF PAYMENT FROM EAST BAY. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH BMW OF NORTH AMERICA FOR 8 WEEKS. MY 2008 BMW 550I CAUGHT FIRE WHILE STATIONARY AT A GAS STATION AT THE GAS PUMP. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED OUT TO CONTAIN THE FIRE. THE FIRE INSPECTOR AND THE FIRE CHIEF BOTH STATED THAT IT WAS A WIRING ISSUE. I HAVE THE FIRE REPORT. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET BMW OF NORTH AMERICA TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE ON FEB. 5, 2018 AND WAS TOLD THERE 'LOOKS LIKE THERE COULD HAVE BEEN'WORK DONE TO THE WIRING OF THE CAR. I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE SINCE APRIL 2017 (7 MONTHS) AND HAVE NOT DONE ANY WORK TO THE WIRING. I ALSO PULLED A CARFAX REPORT BEFORE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. IT SHOWED 0 ACCIDENTS AND 0 MAJOR MECHANICAL WORKING. I ASKED BMW FOR A COPY OF THE INSPECTOR'S REPORT AND WAS DENIED. THAT REALLY MADE ME SUSPECT SOMETHING FOUL FROM BMW.
