I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2008 BMW 535XI AND HAVE HAD IT FOR ABOUT A WEEK OR SO. IT HAS SPENT MORE TIME IN THE SHOP THAN ON THE ROAD DUE TO FUEL INJECTORS CAUSING MISFIRES AND NOW THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAS GONE OUT. I RECENTLY FOUND OUT ALSO THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH BMW AND THEY ARE PRETENDING THAT THE FUEL PUMP MALFUNCTION IN 3 & 5 SERIES ISN'T THEIR FAULT. I CHECKED THE CARFAX ON THE VEHICLE BEFORE BUYING IT AND IT WAS SERVICED REGULARLY AT A BMW DEALERSHIP. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH I ALSO HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THE DEALERSHIP TOTALLY IGNORED THE RECALLS AND SCREWED OVER THE FIRST OWNER. BMW NEEDS TO TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR SELLING CARS WITH KNOWN DEFECTIVE PARTS. I HAVE TO DROP $3800 TO FIX THE PROBLEMS THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAS CAUSED. THE CAR WON'T EVEN START NOW.
CONSISTENTLY RECEIVING 'PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM' WARNING INDICATING LOSS OF AIRBAG PROTECTION ON ONBOARD WARNING SYSTEM. DEALERSHIP SUPPORT NOTIFIED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE UNDER MANUFACTURER AS WELL AS PURCHASED EXTENDED WARRANTEES WITHOUT ANY REMEDY. 'NO FAULT' FOUND BY DEALERSHIPS - REPORTEDLY THEIR DIAGNOSTICS INDICATED NO CURRENT ISSUE WITH PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM. PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM CONTINUES TO INDICATE SHUT-DOWN WHILE UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. LIMITED ONLINE RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THIS IS A PERSISTENT PASSENGER SAFETY CONTROL SYSTEM ISSUE SPECIFIC TO THIS MANUFACTURER AND MODEL.
WIRING FOR DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT MELTED ALL WIRING INSULATION OFF. I GOT A SHOCK WHILE REPLACING THE BULB BEFORE I REALIZED THERE WAS NO INSULATION LEFT. TO REPLACE THE LIGHT FIXURE IT IS IN EXCESS OF $1,500 EACH AND BOTH HAVE ALL INSULATION MELTED OFF THEIR WIRES. THE BULBS DO NOT STAY ON AND WE'RE HAVING DIFFICULTY GETTING A VALID NH INSPECTION STICKER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW 535I. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE FUEL PUMP FAILED AND THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH OF THE VEHICLE'S FUEL PUMPS WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SAME DEALER AND THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED AGAIN DUE TO A DEFECTIVE MANUFACTURER'S PART. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. UPDATED 01/25/2017*CT UPDATED 6/28/18*JB
VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY DRIVEN THE DAY BEFORE DROVE PERFECT NO PROBLEMS, THE DAY AFTER THE VEHICLE WHEN YOU PUT IN DRIVE OR REVERSE IT WOULD AUTOMATICALLY GO BACK TO PARK ON IT'S OWN AND WOULD NOT MOVE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVE WAY AS NORMAL. I HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO BMW THEY DIAGNOSED AS THE MECHATRONIC SLEEVE NEEDED REPLACING THEY CHARGED ME 1300 DOLLARS MY WIFE PICKED THE CAR UP AND DROVE 50 MILES AND THE CAR STARTED DOING THE SAME PREVIOUS BEHAVIOR I CONTACTED BMW THEY HAD ME TO TOW BACK TO THEIR DEALERSHIP A SECOND TIME BOTH TOWS COST ME 125 DOLLARS EACH THE CAR WAS THEN DIAGNOSED AS NEEDING A 9000 TRANSMISSION AND I WAS TOLD THE PREVIOUS REPAIR THAT I PAID FOR WOULD NOT BE CREDITED TOWARD THE NEW TRANSMISSION I'M OUTRAGED. MY SERVICE ADVISOR IS JOHN ARD AT TOM WILLIAMS BMW IN IRONDALE ALABAMA.
THERE IS A VERY STRONG FUEL ODOR COMING FROM THE REAR DRIVER SIDE OF VEHICLE AT ALL TIMES THAT I NOTICE UPON OPENING THE DRIVER DOOR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW 528I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE VIBRATED SEVERELY AFTER SHIFTING INTO DRIVE AND THE POWER TRAIN WAS NOT OPERATIONAL. AFTER THE THIRD ATTEMPT TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE, IT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL INDEPENDENTLY AND THE "SERVICE VEHICLE, NO POWER TRAIN WAS DETECTED" WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 29,000.
WARING LIGHT FOR SEAT BELT RESTRAINT STAYS ON, ONLY ON PASSENGER SIDE. NOT SURE IF THIS AFFECTS INTEGRITY OF SEAT BELT OR AIR BAGS.
TAKATA RECALL. BMW IS NOT DOING ENOUGH TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION. I RECEIVED A NOTICE IN MARCH & 5 MONTHS LATER BMW DEALERS STILL DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO REPAIR THE AIRBAGS. HOW IS IT THAT THIS IS ACCEPTABLE?
FRAUD ACTIVITY POSSIBLE CLONE REFINANCED IDENTITY THEFT REMOTE ACCESS WAS PUT ON UNAUTHORIZED THREAT SAFETY FOR OWNER. TWO LOAN START DATES ONE IN REPO
JUST BOUGHT A USED 2008 528I (E60) W/94K MILES, IN OTHERWISE PERFECT CONDITION. WENT TO CHANGE THE ANGEL EYES FROM DRAB YELLOW TO LUX LED'S. NOTICED BARE WIRES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BULB CONNECTORS, ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR. TRIED TO USE ELECTRICAL TAPE, JUST MADE MORE BARE WIRE. THE MORE I TOUCHED THE WIRES, THE MORE INSULATION FLAKED OFF, ALMOST LIKE A POWDER. I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. CAN'T POSSIBLY BE SAFE. DEFINITELY A FIRE HAZARD. NEIGHBOR BROUGHT OVER A BOTTLE OF LIQUID TAPE, AND I RE-COATED ALL THE BARE WIRE I COULD SEE, MAKING SURE EACH WIRE WAS SEPARATED SO A SHORT WOULD NOT OCCUR. THAT IS A GOOD TEMPORARY FIX. WILL HAVE TO STAY ON TOP OF THIS PROBLEM, SINCE MOST, IF NOT ALL, OF THE HEADLIGHT WIRING IS MADE WITH BAD, QUICKLY DEGRADING WIRE INSULATION. A REAL DISAPPOINTMENT IN OTHERWISE GOOD GERMAN QUALITY AND ENGINEERING. I GUESS THE SOURCE PROCURER AT THE FACTORY SAVED BMW SOME BIG BUCKS ON THAT WIRE!! THIS IS DEFINITELY A NHTSA SAFETY RECALL ISSUE. TORT LAWYERS SHOULD HAVE A FIELD DAY ON THIS ONE. I PURCHASED A 2008 BMW 5 SERIES WAGON 9/1/2015 ON CALIFORNIA HAD ITS FIRST RAIN STORM CAUSING CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OF THE BMW RESULTING IN A COMPLETE LOSS 12/16/115. THE DRAIN LINES ARE A WELL DOCUMENTED AND A BMW SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED TO DEALERSHIPS. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, I EXPERIENCED WIDESPREAD SYSTEM FAILURE, TIRE WARNINGS, TRANSMISSION FAILURE WARNINGS AND THE SUSPENSION FAILED AND THE CAR DROPPED ABOUT 6 INCHES. THE BMW DEALERSHIP GAVE US $24,188.17 REPAIR ESTIMATE FOR ALL THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS AND WIRING WHICH IS MORE THAN THE VALUE OF THE CAR
I PURCHASED MY CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED 2008 BMW 535XI SPORTS WAGON FROM CONCORD BMW ON 09.01.2015 WITH 81,759 MILES ON IT. ON DECEMBER 15, 2015 I WAS TRAVELING AT FREEWAY SPEED WHEN THE REAR AIR SPRINGS FULLY COLLAPSED. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO CONCORD BMW'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT VERY SAME DAY TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. ON DECEMBER 17, 2015 I RECEIVED AN EMAIL REPAIR ESTIMATE FROM BMW CONCORD SERVICE ADVISOR JOEY TIONGSON FOR $24,188.17 (I PURCHASED THE USED VEHICLE FOR $17,400.00).THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT CLOGGED SUNROOF DRAINS ALLOWED WATER TO TRAVEL DOWN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE VEHICLE AND FLOOD ALL THE ELECTRONIC MODULES. TIMING OF THIS INCIDENT IS SUCH THAT MID-DECEMBER 2015 PRODUCED THE FIRST RAINFALL IN OUR AREA DUE TO CALIFORNIA DROUGHT. MY CAR WAS NOT EXPOSED TO ANY SIGNIFICANT WATER PRIOR TO THESE FIRST RAINS. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS SOLD TO ME WITH THIS PRE-EXISTING CONDITION OF WHICH I WAS NEVER ADVISED. MY RESEARCH AFTER THIS INCIDENT INDICATES THAT OTHER BMW OWNERS HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS BUT NOT TO THIS MAGNITUDE. BMW HAS ALSO ISSUED SERVICE BULLETINS ADVISING DEALERSHIPS OF THIS PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW 528I. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO UTILIZE THE SEAT HEATING SYSTEM, THE CONTACT SMELLED AN ABNORMAL BURNING ODOR. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, IT WAS NOTED THAT THE BACKREST OF THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT HAD A SMALL BURN HOLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 04V575000 (SEATS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000. ....UPDATED 01/13/16 *BF; UPDATED 05/10/18*JB *CN
CAR HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE AT 80MPH, AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND CAR IMMEDIATELY WENT UP IN FLAMES IN THE ENGINE DEPARTMENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW MODEL 535I. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, AN UNKNOWN WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OVERHEATING. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000.
PASS RESTRAINT SYSTEM ERROR. PLEASE HELP! I GET THIS WARNING EVERY SO OFTEN WHEN I GET IN MY CAR AND REGARDLESS OF A PASSENGER PRESENT OR NOT. SEVERAL TIMES THE BEEPING SIGNAL WILL BEGIN TO MAKE NOISE, TO BUTTON THE SEAT BELT, EVEN WHEN NOTHING IS IN THE SEAT. THIS IS CREATING A VERY ANNOYING DRIVING EXPERIENCE.
RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION LIGHTS ON DASH AND WARNING ON THE NAV SCREEN GOES ON WHENEVER SOMEONE SITS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT.
INSULATION COVERING HEADLIGHT WIRING CRACKS OFF LEAVING LARGE AMOUNTS OF BARE AREAS. THIS RESULTED IN ELECTRICAL SHORTS, DRAINING BATTERY, ERRATIC ELECTRICAL SYSTEM BEHAVIOR, BLOWN HEADLIGHT BULBS, AND AN INTERMITTENT BURNING SMELL IN MY CAR.
ELECTRICAL WIRING INSULATION/SHEATHING WITHIN THE HEADLIGHT UNIT/HOUSING IS SHOWING SIGNS OF AND OR OUTRIGHT DETERIORATION WHICH IN TURN EXPOSES BARE WIRES WITHIN THE HEADLIGHT HOUSING. AT THIS POINT, THE DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS HAVE BEEN THE ONLY EFFECTED LIGHTS BUT THE WIRES FOR THE HEADLIGHTS ARE ALSO NOTICEABLY TROUBLED. THE ISSUE IS NOT SPEED, MOVEMENT OR AREA DEPENDENT. THE CAR HAS AN PASSENGER RESTRAINT ERROR THAT DOES NOT GO AWAY. THE CAR FUEL GAGE DOES NOT WORK EITHER

CAR GAS HAVEN'T BEEN AS USUAL TOOK CAR FOR OIL CHANG ROTATION OF TIRES. DISCOVERED GAS LEAKAGE. LOOKING AT POSSIBLE FUEL LINE OR PUMP.
WIRING OF FRONT HEADLIGHTS FLAKING OFF AND EXPOSING BARE WIRE. THE SHORT OF THE WIRES CAUSED THE PLASTIC OF HOLDING HEADLAMP TO BUBBLE AND MELT AS A CONSEQUENCE.
MY CAR HAD AN FUEL LEAK WHICH HAD TO BE REPAIRED ASAP
HELLO I'M REPORTING IN REGARDS TO AN ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE. FOR APPROXIMATELY THE PAST MONTH I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH A GASOLINE SMELL COMING FROM MY VEHICLE. I FIRST THOUGHT I WAS OVER FILLING SO CHANGED THE AMOUNT OF GAS I PUT IN THE VEHICLE. THAT STILL DIDN'T STOP THE SMELL FROM COMING BACK. SO I DECIDED TO SCHEDULE MY VEHICLE FOR AN APPOINTMENT. AS A RESULT THE SERVICE ADVISOR STATED THEY SMELLED IT BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND A LEAK. I DROVE HOME WITHOUT A STRONG SMELL BUT BY THE TIME I ARRIVED TO THE DESTINATION IT WAS EVIDENT AGAIN. I CONTACTED A FEW OTHER BMW AUTHORIZED DEALERS AND TALKED WITH SERVICE ADVISORS AND THEY SAID THEY NEVER HEARD OF SUCH ISSUE/CONCERN. AT ONE DEALERSHIP THE ADVISOR HUNG UP ON ME WHILE I WAS EXPLAINING IT. I READ A FEW ARTICLES WHERE OTHER BMW OWNERS EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE, SOME WHO CARS CAUGHT ON FIRE. THIS MADE ME BELIEVE THERE IS A DEFECT THAT CAUSES THIS ISSUE. SO I CONTACTED BMW OF NORTH AMERICA AND WAS TOLD BY JOEY THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I EXPLAINED TO HIM THAT I CAN'T KEEP PAYING DIAGNOSTIC FEES FOR THEM TO DETERMINE NOTHING IS WRONG. I HAD IT ESCALATED AND WAS TOLD BY KAYLA THAT I NEED TO TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP. NEVER WAS I OFFERED TO HAVE IT CHECKED FOR FREE. I UNDERSTAND I'M OUT OF WARRANTY BUT TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING FOR DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES WITHOUT BEING TOLD AN ISSUE EXISTS IS ROBBERY. I JUST WANT MY CAR CONCERN RESOLVED BEFORE ANYONE IS INJURED OR HARMED AS A RESULT OF THE ISSUE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER EXITING THE VEHICLE AND TOUCHING THE HANDLE TO LOCK THE DOORS VIA THE KEYLESS ENTRY FEATURE, THE CONTACT FAILED TO REALIZE THAT THE PASSENGER HAD NOT EXITED THE VEHICLE. THE PASSENGER WAS UNABLE TO UNLOCK THE DOORS AND REMAINED TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE WITH THE WINDOWS UP FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES UNTIL THE DRIVER CAME BACK TO UNLOCK THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS EXPLAINED THAT WHAT THE CONTACT PERCEIVED AS A FAILURE WAS A SECURITY FEATURE OF THE VEHICLE AND WAS NOT CONSIDERED A DEFECT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, THROUGH CITY STREETS, THE ENGINE STALLED. I WAS NEARLY IN AN ACCIDENT. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE, BUT IT STALLED AGAIN IN LESS THAN 3 MILES.
FRAYED AND DISINTEGRATING HEADLIGHT WIRING PRESENT THROUGHOUT MY HEADLAMPS. THESE ARE SEALED ENCLOSURES FOR WHICH THERE ARE NO PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE ITEMS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS THE HEADLIGHTS MAY FAIL WITHOUT WARNING, PARTICULARLY IN HOT WEATHER. THESE ARE NON CONSUMER REPLACEABLE PARTS AND PROHIBITIVELY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE AND SHOULD NOT BE FAILING AFTER ONLY 8 YEARS OF SERVICE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW 528XI. WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM, FAULT IN PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM AFFECTING AIR BAG AND BELT PRE-TENSIONER WARNING WAS DISPLAYED ACROSS THE MESSAGE BOARD. THE AIR BAG AND SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
I WAS EXITING THE THE FREEWAY AND WHEN I WAS ON A BANKED ONRAMP THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. I LOST POWER STEERING AND THE ABILITY TO RELEASE THE BRAKE. I NEARLY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AS THE UNEXPECTED LOSS IN POWER STEERING CAUSED ME TO LOOSE GRIP ON THE WHEEL. THE ENGINE WAS IN NEUTRAL WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED. UPON RESTARTING THE ENGINE (WHICH STRUGGLED TO START) THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON TELLTALE" ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE ENTERED "REDUCE ENGINE POWER MODE". AFTER SCANNING THE DTC (P3090) I LEARNED THE VEHICLE'S HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED. I NOTICED BMW HAS A RECALL ON THE ISSUE. UNFORTUNATELY THEIR RECALL ONLY COVERS THE FUEL PUMP TO 120,000 MILES AND MY VEHICLE HAS ROUGHLY 9,500 MILES ABOVE THE COVERED THRESHOLD. BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE AND READING ONLINE I FEEL THE PUMP HAS SOME SORT OF DESIGN FLAW THAT BMW HAS FAILED TO PROPERLY ADDRESS. I WISH BMW WOULD HOLD UP TO THEIR INTEGRITY AND CONTINUE TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE.
PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG/ SEATBELT LITE ON DEALER SAID THAT THE BSD CABLE GOING TO THE AIRBAG IS DETACHED...BUT IT MUST BE REPLACED AT A COST OF ABOUT CLOSE TO $900....NOT REPAIRED AS OF YET
I DISCOVERED FAILURES OF MULTIPLE WIRES IN THE TAILGATE/REAR WINDOW WIRING HARNESSES. THROUGH RESEARCH ONLINE I HAVE FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE OVER SEVERAL MODEL YEARS - SEARCH FOR BMW E61 TAILGATE WIRING PROBLEMS. THE FAILURES ARE CAUSED BY A POOR DESIGN WHERE THE WIRES ENTERING THE HINGE GUIDES (4) FOR THE GLASS AND TAILGATE ARE REPEATEDLY FLEXED AT A SHARP ANGLE UNTIL THE INSULATION, THEN THE COPPER WIRE BREAKS. SAFETY ISSUES - POSSIBLE ELECTRICAL SHORT CIRCUIT LEADING TO FIRES (HIGHEST LOAD IS FOR REAR DEFROSTER); LIGHTING FAILURES (REAR HIGH BRAKE LIGHT, LICENSE PLATE LAMPS AND OTHERS); REDUCED VISIBILITY DUE TO LOSS OF WIPER/WASHER/DEFROSTER; REAR GLASS LATCH OPENING WHILE UNDERWAY, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN LOSS OF CARGO OR INGRESS OF EXHAUST FUMES. THIS IS NOT AN EASILY REPAIRED PROBLEM. IT WOULD BE BEYOND THE CAPABILITIES OF ALL BUT A SKILLED MECHANIC WITH PROPER TOOLS. I DISCOVERED IT WHEN THE REMOTE LOCK/UNLOCK USING THE KEY FOBS FAILED. AS I INVESTIGATED I FOUND THE BROKEN WIRE, ALONG WITH SEVERAL OTHERS WITH BROKEN INSULATION, SOME WITH BROKEN COPPER STRANDS. *TR
I RECENTLY STARTED EXPERIENCING FUSES BLOWING ON MY RIGHT FRONT HEAD LIGHT UNITS. ERRORS WOULD INDICATE IT WAS THE 'RIGHT DAYLIGHT PARKING UNIT' AND THEN WOULD CLEAR OR STAY CONSTANT. WHEN IT WAS CONSTANT, IT WAS DUE TO A BLOWN FUSE. IT TURNS OUT WHEN I HAD A BMW CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN LOOK AT THE ISSUE HE SAID THAT THE PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO THE WIRING INSIDE THE FRONT HEAD LIGHT. THE WIRING HAD INSULATION THAT WAS STARTING TO FLAKE OFF ALLOWING CONTACT OF THE TWO WIRES GOING TO THE BULB AND WAS EVEN APPARENT ON OTHER WIRES WITHIN THE HEAD LIGHT ASSEMBLY. IF I HIT A BUMP OR WENT OVER RUMBLE STRIPS THESE WIRES COULD TOUCH AND SHORT CAUSING THE FUSE TO BLOW AND/OR ERROR MESSAGE. AFTER 3 FUSES AND BUYING AN UNNECESSARY SET OF H8 BULBS, THE TECHNICIAN FIXED THE WIRING WITH SOME ELECTRICAL TAPE BUT SUGGESTED THAT A FILE A COMPLAINT HERE SINCE THERE IS NO OPEN RECALL FOR THIS COMMON ISSUE. HE ALSO TOLD ME THIS PROBLEM WITH WIRE INSULATION FALLING OFF WAS VERY COMMON ON BMW'S THAT WERE 5-7 YEARS OLD. I COULD SEE BURN MARKS ON THE WIRE AN INSTALLATION FROM WHERE THE SHORT OCCURRED AND WAS SHOCKED THAT ALL THE WIRING WITHIN THE HEAD LAMP ON BOTH THE RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT SHOWED THESE FLAKING AND CRACKING. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE AT SEVERAL BMW FORUMS I FOUND MANY SIMILAR ISSUES AND IMAGES ALMOST IDENTICAL TO THE ONES MY TECHNICIAN TOOK. I WOULD LIKE A RECALL TO BE ISSUED BY BMW TO REPLACE THE HEAD LIGHT ASSEMBLIES OR INTERNAL WIRING WITH WIRES THAT HAVE A BETTER/PROPER INSULATOR THAT DOESN'T FLAKE OFF. I'VE NOT HAD THE BACK LIGHTS CHECKED, BUT FOUND THAT THIS IS COMMON ON MOST IF NOT ALL BMW LIGHT ASSEMBLIES FRONT/BACK FOR A FEW ONLINE RESEARCH QUERIES. ALSO WHERE CAN I SEND THE DIGITAL PICTURES MY TECHNICIAN TOOK OF THE WIRING?
INSULATION OF THE WIRES IN THE HEAD LIGHT ASSEMBLY FLAKING OFF. ALMOST ALL OF IT IS NOW MISSING. WORRIED IT WILL CAUSE A FIRE. SMELLS LIKE IT IS BURNING. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE AIR BAG AND THE RESTRAINT SYSTEM WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED WHILE A PASSENGER WAS OCCUPYING THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEAT. THE INTERIOR WARNING LIGHTS STARTED TO FLICKER AND THE CHIME SOUNDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PADDED SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V564000 (AIR BAGS). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,200.
I HAD THE PASSENGER RESTRAINT MALFUNCTION ERROR SHOW UP ON MY VEHICLE'S DASH IN 2013. AT THAT TIME, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED SOME MODULE IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADREST. NOT SURE WHY WOULD THEY HAVE A REPLACE A MODULE IN "DRIVER SIDE" WHEN THE ERROR IS IN "PASSENGER SIDE." BUT I DIDN'T ARGUE AND LET THEM REPLACE IT AND PAID $400 FOR THE PRIVILEGE. NOW AGAIN IN APRIL 2015, SAME ERROR IS HAPPENING. FIRST THE DEALER (BMW OF CLEVELAND, SOLON, OH) COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM FOR 2 DAYS. BUT WHEN I TOLD THEM ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE VEHICLE, THEY SAY THAT NOW THE WHOLE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADREST NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THE COST IS A WHOPPING $700. THE CAR SHOWS PROBLEM IN PASSENGER SIDE, AND DEALER SAYS DRIVER SIDE HEADREST NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS PREPOSTEROUS! LOOKS LIKE THE DEALER IS TRYING TO SCAM ME ON THIS. IS THERE ANY RECALL ON THIS?

WHILE DRIVING AT 55MPH NOT CLOSE TO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AND WITH NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, AND WITH THE SUNROOF CLOSED, THERE WAS A SUDDEN "EXPLOSION" ABOVE MY HEAD. IT WAS A VERY LOUD NOISE AND MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS THAT THE SUNROOF HAD BEEN SHOT. BEFORE I HAD TIME TO PULL OVER, THE SHATTERED GLASS OF THE SUNROOF BLEW OFF THE ROOF ONTO THE ROAD BEHIND ME. I DID NOT SEE ANYTHING COME OFF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, THERE WAS NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, AND I WAS NOT GOING UNDER A BRIDGE OF ANY KIND. IT WAS AS IF THE SUNROOF SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED. HAD THE SUNROOF CURTAIN NOT BEEN CLOSED, ALL THAT GLASS WOULD HAVE COME INTO THE CAR AND CAUSED SIGNIFICANT INJURY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, YELLOW WARNING LIGHT INDICATING THE CAR WAS OVERHEATING CAME ON. A FEW SECONDS LATER THE LIGHT TURNED RED AND INDICATED TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AND I CAME TO A STOP. IT WAS TOWED TO THE SHOP AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THE WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ADDING THAT IT WAS A COMMON FAILURE IN THE BMW. VEHICLE HAD RECENTLY BEEN SERVICED AT BMW DEALER. *TR

THE ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE IS IT BEGINS TO STALL AS DRIVING WHICH IS DANGEROUS IN OUR AREA FOR TRAFFIC. THE CAR WILL NOT PICK UP SPEED WHILE DRIVING AND YOU CAN NOT GO OVER 10 MILES PER HOUR. THE CAR ALSO JERKS. THE PROBLEMS WITH BOTH OUR VEHICLES WERE THE SAME ; OIL LEAK, A TRANSMISSION LEAK, AND A PROBLEM WITH THE CYLINDERS NOT WORKING AS CONNECTED TO THE SPARK PLUGS. AS I PREVIOUSLY STATED THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. AND TIMES WHEN YOU NEED TO ACCELERATE THE CAR STALLS WHICH ALMOST CAUSES THE CAR BEHIND YOU TO RUN INTO YOU.THE MAINTENANCE FOR MY CAR WAS 3200 DOLLARS AT THE DEALERSHIP. MY COWORKER TOOK HER CAR TO AN IMPORT REPAIR SHOP AND OVER THE COURSE OF 2 TIMES, SHE ENDED UP SPENDING ABOUT 1200 PLUS DOLLARS. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER AS I DON'T THINK PEOPLE ARE REPORTING IT TO THE RIGHT AUTHORITY. *TR
PURCHASED USED WITH 83,000 MILES. CURRENTLY 100,000. THE INTERMITTENTLY REPORTS A FAILURE IN THE PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM. WHEN EXAMINED BY A QUALIFIED MECHANIC, THERE IS NO INDICATION OF AN ISSUE WITH ANY OF THE PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEMS. WHEN THIS WARNING IS PRESENT ON THE VEHICLE, I DO NOT KNOW WHAT SAFETY SYSTEMS (IF ANY) HAVE BEEN COMPROMISED. DEALERSHIP HAS STATED THERE IS A RECALL ON SIMILAR VEHICLES DURING THE SAME YEAR, BUT NOT THIS VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH IT USES THE SAME COMPONENTS.
I GOT THIS ZENNA TIRES FROM CARSHOEZ.COM AND THE TIRES HAVE A TREAD PATTERN WRONG. IT DOES NOT FOR WITH THE FLOW OF ROTATION OF THE TIRE. THE INSIDE SIDE TREAD IS GOING BACKWARD AND THE OUTSIDE TREAD IS BACKWARD ON TWO TIRES AND FORWARD ON THE OTHER TWO TIRES. TIRES SIZES IS 275/30/19 REAR AND 245/35/9 FRONT. *TR
OUR 2007 BMW 530XI DEVELOPED A STEERING WHEEL LOCK MALFUNCTION WARNING. A RED STEERING WHEEL WITH A PADLOCK APPEARS ON THE DASH SCREEN WITH A WARNING ON THE COMPUTER. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS AND UNLOCKS PERFECTLY EVERY TIME. THE CAR IS DRIVABLE. THE DEALER SAYS THE STEERING LOCK MODULE MUST BE REPLACED FOR $600. I FOUND THAT THIS IS A RAMPANT PROBLEM ON BMWS AND THAT BMW CORPORATION IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
PERMANENT LOSS OF FUNCTIONALITY OF REAR LAMP FUNCTIONS TAIL, BRAKE, TURN-SIGNAL, REVERSE.
I DROVE TO WORK AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON THAT MORNING. THE CAR DROVE AS NORMAL. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AT APPROXIMATELY 6:30 P.M ON A BUSY INTERSTATE IN THE MIDDLE LANE TRAVELING APPROX. 65 MPH WHEN THE CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE AND LOSE POWER. IT AUTOMATICALLY SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND LOSE POWER. I HAD TO MANEUVER TO THE SHOULDER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WITH NO POWER. AFTER TURNING ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS, I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET TO THE SHOULDER. THE CAR WAS TOWED HOME. AFTER A FEW DAYS, WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP (NOT BMW) AND WAS INITIALLY TOLD THAT SENSORS WERE BAD. REPLACED THEM AND A FEW DAYS LATER, THE SAME ENGINE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS BAD INJECTORS AND THAT THE FUEL IS BURNING TO RICH. BMW HAD PREVIOUSLY REPLACED 2 OF THE INJECTORS ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO. THE CAR ONLY HAD APPROXIMATELY 35K MILES AT THAT TIME AND NEEDED INJECTORS REPLACED. WHY THEY ONLY REPLACED 2, IS INCOMPREHENSIBLE. THANKFULLY, THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY AT THAT TIME, UNFORTUNATELY FOR ME, IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND NOW I HAVE TO FOOT THE $2K BILL TO HAVE THEM REPLACED. BMW SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE TO ITS OWNERS AND REPLACE THESE INJECTORS SINCE THERE ARE SO MANY REPORTED PROBLEMS. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY AN ISSUE WITH THE INJECTORS. THESE CARS ARE NOT INEXPENSIVE TO PURCHASE AND IT IS UNFAIR TO BE STUCK WITH THESE HIGH REPAIR BILLS WHEN THERE IS A KNOW PROBLEM AND REPORTED BY SO MANY BMW OWNERS. FIRST, IT WAS MY WATER PUMP, AND NOW THE FUEL INJECTORS. THIS IS MY SECOND BMW. I PREVIOUSLY OWNED THE 328 AND IT HAD LIFTERS REPLACED AFTER ABOUT 8 MONTHS. I WILL NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER BMW - PROBABLY GO WITH LEXUS! SHAME ON BMW FOR NOT TAKING OWNERSHIP OF THIS PROBLEM.. *TR
