I AM REPORTING TWO FAILURES OF THE HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP ON A 2008 BMW 535I. THE FIRST OCCURRED ABOUT ONE YR AFTER DELIVERY RESULTING IN THE CAR HAVING TO BE RETURNED TO THE DEALER IN LIMP MODE. A YEAR AFTER THE HPFP WAS REPLACED, THE EXACT SAME FAILURE OCCURRED, AND THE PUMP WAS REPLACED FOR A SECOND TIME. IMO, THIS REPRESENTS A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT THAT BMW SEEMS INCAPABLE OF CORRECTING. *TR
WHEN ENGINE START IN THE MORNING, CAR IS SHAKING AND REDUCE POWER WARNING LIGHT COME UP. EVERY MORNING (WENT TO SERVICE RIGHT AWAY) DEALER PERFORMED THE SERVICE-REPLACED THE FUEL INJECTOR NEXT DAY-SAME HAPPEN AGAIN VERY BADLY CALL DEALER- BRING THE CAR AGAIN.. WASTE MY TIME AND , FEEL VERY UNSAFE, BECAUSE CAR IS SHAKING. I AM GOING TO DEALER AGAIN, BUT MY QUESTION IS ,WHAT IF SAME PROBLEMS OCCURS SEVERAL TIME, IS THERE ANY LAW TO PROTECT THE CONSUMER AGAINST TO BMW AUTO ? *TR
WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN CAR BEGAN TO "SPUTTER" CAUSING ROUGH RIDE. AFTER ANOTHER 5 MILES, THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, STOPPED THE CAR, THEN RESTARTED IT. THE LIGHT DISAPPEARED, BUT REAPPEARED AFTER ANOTHER MILE OF DRIVING. CONTACTED BMW WHO SAID THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. SERVICE CENTER FOUND THAT IT WAS STORED FAULT CODES, WHICH A PREVIOUS SERVICE BULLETIN HAD ADVISED. THESE FAULT CODES WERE CLEARED AND THE CAR FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS FOR A 2009 BMW 535I. THE CHOICES AVAILABLE FOR 2009 BMW'S DO NOT INCLUDE THE 5 SERIES. *TR
THIS CAR WAS PURCHASE BRAND NEW ON 12/12/2008. SO FAR THE FUEL SYSTEM HAS FAILED FOUR TIME. FUEL PUMP TWICE AND INJECTORS TWICE. THE CAR SUDDENLY LOOSES POWER DUE TO THIS ISSUES. MY CAR HAS 36K MILES. HAVING LOOKED AT NEWS GROUPS, A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL. *TR
MY BRAND NEW 2008 BMW 550I WAS INVOLVED IN THREE SEPARATE COLLISIONS ON THE RIGHT SIDE IN A SPAN OF LESS THAN THREE MONTHS AFTER I LEASED IT. IT HAS 7 MILES WHEN I WAS GOT IT AND THE FIRST COLLISION OCCURRED WHEN MY FRIEND WAS DRIVING IT IN THE CITY OF SAN FRANCISCO AND THE CAR HAD LESS THAN 2,000 MILES. THE SECOND COLLISION OCCURRED SEVERAL WEEKS LATER (AFTER THE DAMAGES WERE REPAIRED) -- THE CAR COLLIDED WITH A BIG-RIG ON THE RIGHT SIDE, CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE. THE THIRD ACCIDENT HAPPENED WITHIN 4 MILES AFTER I PICKED UP THE CAR FROM THE REPAIR SHOP. THE CAR WENT OUT OF CONTROL, PULLED TO THE RIGHT AND COLLIDED WITH THE HIGHWAY CONCRETE BARRIERS. THE CAR COULD HAVE ROLLED OVER THE CONCRETE EMBANKMENTS AND PLUNGED OVER 100 FEET -- I WAS EXITING FROM THE ELEVATED OFF-RAMP OF THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY BRIDGE. (THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL RESPONDEDTO THE SECOND COLLISION AND THE CAR WAS INOPERABLE AND TOWED TO SAN FRANCISCO FROM THE SUBMIT OF THE GRAPEVINE NEAR LOS ANGELES.) *TR
I HAD PURCHASED A NEW BMW WITH DUNLOP TIRES ON. MY TIRES ARE USED LESS THAN 1 YEAR AND USED ONLY FOR 34,000 KM (21,200 MILES) BUT THERE ARE NO THREADS LEFT ON THE TIRES. I HAVE CONTACTED DUNLOPS CUSTOMER SERVICE IN AMERICA AND CONTACTED THEIR OFFICE IN TURKEY AND THEY HAVE SENT AN EXPERT TO CHECK THE TIRES. THEY CLAIM THAT THE AIR PRESSURE WAS LOW SO THE TIRES WERE WORN QUICKLY. THAT IS RIDICULOUS BECAUSE MY CAR IS NEW AND IT WAS CHECKED BY AUTHORIZED BMW SERVICE FOR ROUTINE CHECKS SEVERAL TIMES AND I HAVE A REPORT FROM AUTHORIZED BMW SERVICE THAT TIRE PRESSURE WAS NORMAL. ON THE OTHER HAND THIS CAR HAS TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS AND THERE WERE NEVER LOW PRESSURE WARNING. I HAVE MADE A RESEARCH ON THE WEB AND FOUND OUT THAT DUNLOP TIRES HAD SO MANY CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO MINE AND HIGH COURT JUDGE FOUND DUNLOP GUILTY FOR 300 INCIDENTS INVOLVING A FAULTY BRAND OF TIRE, WHICH CAUSED AT LEAST ONE FATAL MOTORWAY SMASH. ON THE OTHER HAND A BIKER DIED DUE TO FAULTY DUNLOP TIRE AND ANOTHER INJURED SERIOUSLY. (THE SUIT (CAUSE NO. DV-08- 480) WAS FILED NOV. 10, 2008, IN THE SECOND JUDICIAL DISTRICT COURT, BUTTE SILVER-BOW COUNTY.). DO I HAVE TO GO TO A COURT OR GET KILLED TO HAVE MY TIRES REPLACED? A COPY OF THE ABOVE WAS SENT TO (FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION BUREAU OF CONSUMER PROTECTION). *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW 528. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT FROM DRIVE INTO REVERSE, THE GEAR SHIFT SUDDENLY SHIFTED BACK INTO DRIVE. THE GEAR SHIFT FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000. THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 24,000.

I WANT TO VOICE MY UTMOST DISSATISFACTION WITH MY 535I(CUSTOMER #113894) THUS FAR BASED ON FOLLOWING DETAILS. SERVICE DATE: 5/22/08, MILEAGE: 7592, VEHICLE EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTY STARTING IGNITION. YOUR SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACED "HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP." SERVICE DATE: 1/17/09, MILEAGE: 16495, VEHICLE DISPLAYED MESSAGE, "ENGINE MALFUNCTION, REDUCED SPEED" THEN ENGINE STALLED DURING DRIVING IN 5 FREEWAY. YOUR SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACED "HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP." LATEST EPISODE HAPPENED DRIVING IN 5 FREEWAY WITH MY TWO KIDS IN BACK SEAT. CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF FREEWAY AND I'VE HAD CLOSE CALL WITH SEMI TRUCK COMING RIGHT BEHIND ME. I THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO SLAM RIGHT INTO ME! NEEDLESS TO THIS EXPERIENCE HAVE GIVEN ME A SCARE AND FEAR FOR MY KIDS' SAFETY, WHICH PROMPTED ME TO FILE A COMPLAIN WITH NHTSA. THIS 535I IS MY FIRST BMW AND IT WILL PROBABLY BE MY LAST ONE. I'VE HAD ACURAS BEFORE THIS VEHICLE AND HAD NOT HAD THIS TYPE OF LIFE THREATENING VEHICLE MALFUNCTION. *TR
SECOND HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE IN LESS THAN 2 MONTHS ( FIRST ONE REPLACED THE 2ND WEEK OF DECEMBER 2008 HAD ANOTHER FAIL TODAY ON THE WAY TO WORK 1/14/2009). THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (HPFP FROM NOW ON ) ON THE N54 MOTORS FROM BMW HAS BECOME A MAJOR ISSUE SPREADING ACROSS 3 DIFFERENT LINES ( 1,3,5 SERIES) , SOME THING NEED TO BE DONE QUICKLY, SINCE BUYING LOW CONTENT ETHANOL FUEL IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE. THIS WAS THE EXCUSE I WAS GIVEN, FAILURES DUE TO "HIGH" ETHANOL CONTENT ( ABOVE 10%), DRIVERS HAVE NO WAY OF TESTING AT THE PUMP HOW HIGH THE CONTENT IS EXCEPT FOR THE LABELS ON THE PUMP. *TR
WE PURCHASED A 2008 BMW 528XI AS A DEMO. IT WAS SAID TO BE CERTIFIED. IT TICKED FROM THE DAY WE PURCHASED IT. BMW SAID ALL IT NEEDED WAS AN ENGINE BLEED-DOWN. THIS WAS DONE 4 TIMES. THE VEHICLE STILL TICKED AND WE TOOK IT TO OUR TRUSTED BMW DEALERSHIP AND WA STOLD IT NEEDS A NEW CYLINDER-HEAD DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE CAR ONLY HAS 3,000 MILES ON IT. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. THE CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP SINCE MARCH 2ND, NOT EVEN BEGUN TO START THE WORK. I FEEL THE CAR SHOULD BE REPLACED AS IT IS A LEMON , AND WE DESIRE A 2009 528XI WITH THE SAME OPTIONS. *TR

I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW BMW 525I M SPORT WHICH HAS DONE 1000 MILES. IT IS JUST 6 WEEKS OLD AND THE HIGH PRESSURE PUMP (HPP) WENT BUST. I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE IT. I BUY A CAR WITH MY HARD EARNED MONEY AND THIS HAPPENS. BMW SHOULD REALIZE THE IMPACT IT HAS ON SOMEONE WHO EXPECTS A LOT FROM HIS CAR SINCE HE IS PAYING OUT OF HIS NOSE. *TR
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE ENGINE STARTED TO RUN ROUGH. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS IN JULY AND BROUGHT IT TO DEALER AND COULD NOT FIND PROBLEM. SECOND TIME I HAD CAR TOWED AND SAID IT WAS FAULTY IGNITION COIL. REPLACED AND SEEMS OK NOW, BUT EVERY SO OFTEN IT RUNS ROUGH FOR A FEW MOMENT. *TR
ADDED EXXONMOBIL GAS 9/2/2008. CAR DEAD BY 9/7/2008, AFTER DRIVING APPROX. 50 MILES. THE FUEL PUMP ON THIS VERY NEW CAR HAS FAILED. THE DEALER CLAIMS THE GAS WAS BAD (SAYS ALCOHOL LEVEL TESTED TO 15%), WHILE EXXONMOBIL INSISTS THE FUEL WAS FINE AT 10% ALCOHOL, FROM THE ETHANOL. I BELIEVE THE REAL PROBLEM IS THAT THE 2008 BMW 535XI'S CAN'T HANDLE EVEN 10% ETHANOL, SO THE FUEL PUMPS ARE FAILING. *TR
I PURCHASED A NEW BMW 535I ON MAY 26, 2008 AND ON AUG 8, 2008 WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AT 70 MILES AND HOUR THE CAR STARTED WAS SHAKING AS IF RUNNING ON 3 CYLINDERS. THERE WAS A MESSAGE FROM THE CAR STATING ENGINE MALFUNCTION REDUCED POWER! I WAITED 3 HOURS FOR A TOW TRUCK AND AFTER A FEW DAYS I RECEIVED A CALL FROM RICHMOND BMW STATING I NEEDED A NEW HIGH PRESSURE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM. I SAID FINE AND THEN RECEIVED A CALL THE NEXT DAY SAYING MY CAR WAS READY. WHEN I PICKED IT UP THEY DIDN'T REPAIR ANYTHING THEY SAID THEY WERE TOLD BY MUNICH TO JUST RESET THE LIGHT AND CLAIM ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS!! ON FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 5TH WHILE TRYING TO CROSS AN INTERSECTION I WAS ALMOST T-BONED WHEN MY CAR AGAIN LOST POWER. THEN ON SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 6TH THE ENGINE LOST POWER AGAIN AND SAME MESSAGE POPPED UP ON THE IDRIVE SCREEN. WHEN I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL INJECTION WAS A "HIGH PROFILE" PART IN MUNICH AND THEREFORE THEY WERE TOLD TO JUST RESET THE LIGHT TO SEE IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN. NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM OUTRAGED THAT BMW PUT MY FAMILY IN SUCH DANGER SO AS TO NOT HAVE TO REPLACE HIGH PROFILE PARTS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE WHAT IS GOING ON WITH BMW THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS IT COMES ON WITHOUT NOTICE OR WARNING POWER JUST IS GONE. I HAVE ASKED BMW TO REFUND MY MONEY BUT THEY HAVE HAD MY CAR SINCE SEPTEMBER 6TH AND I AM GETTING NOTHING BUT THE RUN AROUND. *TR
TRUNK HAS UNEXPECTADELY OPENED WHEN THE RELEASE BUTTON WAS ACCIDENTALLY BUMPED WILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. APPARENTLY THERE IS NO LOCK OUT ON THE BUTTON PREVENTING TRUNK OPENING WHILE VEHICLE IS IN GEAR AND MOVING. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 BMW 535I WITH SPORT PACKAGE AND PREMIUM PACKAGE. I HAVE HAD AN "ENGINE MALFUNCTION/REDUCING HORSEPOWER" ISSUE WITH THIS CAR 3 TIMES SINCE PURCHASING IT IN AUGUST 2008. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED WITHIN 3 WEEKS OF DELIVERY AND ONLY 600 MILES. THE SECOND INCIDENT HAPPENED ABOUT A MONTH LATER WITH APPROX 1500 MILES; AND THE THIRD INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 11/3/08 WITH APPROXIMATELY 2200 MILES. BMW SAYS EACH TIME THAT IT'S A MISFIRE IN ONE OF THE CYLINDERS - BUT THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. SO EACH TIME THEY RESET THE COMPUTER AND SEND ME AWAY. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I DRIVE ON CALIFORNIA FREEWAYS MOST OF THE TIME AND WHEN THIS ENGINE MALFUNCTION OCCURS, THE CAR STARTS "LIMPING" AND MISSING AND I HAVE TO SLOW AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF BUSY, BUSY FREEWAYS THAT ARE VERY DANGEROUS. BIMMERFEST FORUM SHOWS THAT THERE ARE LOTS OF OWNERS OF THE BMW 535I HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM - BUT BMW WILL NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUE...... EACH TIME THE PROBLEM OCCURS, THE BMW DEALER ASKS ME WHAT KIND OF GAS I'M USING - AND IT'S ALWAYS BEEN 91 OCTANE. THEN THEY ASK ME WHAT BRAND - WHICH IS CHEVRON, THOUGH I DIDN'T REALIZE THE BRAND OF GAS WOULD BE A PROBLEM IN MODERN DAY CARS. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION TO BE OCCURRING ON THE CALIFORNIA FREEWAY SYSTEM, NOT TO MENTION ANY FREEWAY SYSTEM GIVEN THE SPEEDS AT WHICH PEOPLE DRIVE AND THE DANGER OF POWER LOSS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND HAVING TO PULL OVER ON VERY SMALL SHOULDERS WHERE OTHER CARS PASS AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED WITHIN ONLY A FOOT OR TWO OF MY CAR WHEN THE ENGINE MALFUNCTIONS. *TR
PURCHASED NEW 535I 8/22/08. WITH LESS THAN 400 MILE, RECEIVED ENGINE MALFUNCTION-POWER REDUCED WARNING WHILE DRIVING AT INTERSTATE SPEED. LIMPED TO DEALER, WHO HAD CAR FOR 4.5 DAYS. 1ST QUESTION: WHAT TYPE OF FUEL? SHELL. RESPONSE: MAY HAVE TO MUCH ETHANOL. SERVICE FOUND AN ENGINE MIS-FIRE CODE; REPLACED INJECTOR AND SWAPPED COILS TO VALIDATE INJ. REPLACEMENT. 2ND OCCURRENCE AT 3200 MILES, AGAIN AT HI-WAY SPEEDS. MIS-FIRE CODE AGAIN FOUND BY DEALER SERVICE. INJECTORS WERE "SWAPPED"; I'M NOT SURE TO WHAT END. THE CAR WAS ALSO "REPROGRAMMED".I GET THE IMPRESSION THAT SERVICE PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS TRULY CAUSING THE PROBLEM. OR ELSE THAT THEY ARE TRYING NOT TO COMMIT. NOW HAVE APPROX. 4100 MILES W/O ANY RECURRENCE. APPARENTLY THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT IS NOT JUST WITH THE 5 SERIES, BUT THE 3 SERIES ALSO, BOTH TYPES WITH THE N54 TURBO CHARGED 3 LITER ENGINE. FIRST FIXES INVOLVED THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP, NOW THEY ARE APPEAR TO BE SWAPPING/REPLACING INJECTORS AND REPROGRAMMING THE ECU. IT IS ALSO A COMMON POINT OF DISCUSSION IN ON-LINE BMW FORUMS WHEN SEARCHED UNDER ENGINE MALFUNCTION. *TR
BMW 528I - IF YOU CARRY LIQUIDS WHICH SPILL IN YOUR TRUNK, THE LIQUID CAN SEEP THROUGH AND BURN THE WIRES, OR THE CAR WILL STOP RUNNING (PER SERVICE DEPARTMENT), WHICH CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. ON 7-5 MY CAR HAD A LOW TIRE LIGHT GO ON. I WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE CAR IN AS THEY MIGHT NEED TO "RESET" SOMETHING. I TOOK THE CAR IN &WAS TOLD TO RETURN ON 7-7 AS THEY COULDN'T GET THE LIGHT TO GO OFF. ON 7-7 WE TOOK THE CAR IN.THE SERVICE REP. CALLED &ASKED ME IF I HAD SPILLED WATER IN THE TRUNK.I TOLD HIM ON 7-4 A WATER BOTTLE SPILLED.HE TOLD ME DUE TO THE WATER SPILL, THE REPAIR WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.HE SAID THEY RAN TESTS AND WIRES WERE BURNT 3 TO 4'. HE SAID THERE IS A CHANCE WHEN YOU PUT WATER BOTTLES IN TRUNK & THEY ARE NOT SEALED TIGHTLY THE HEAT CAN CAUSE THEM TO EXPAND,& OPEN UP & SPILL. HE SAID HE WARNED HIS WIFE OF THIS. I WAS NOT WARNED THE WIRES ARE DOWN THERE & NOT TO CARRY LIQUID IN THE TRUNK. I ASKED IF I COULD DRIVE THE CAR AND HE SAID NO THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF THE CAR SHUTTING DOWN WHEN THE WIRES ARE BURNED. I CAN'T USE THE TRUNK FOR GROCERY SHOPPING FOR FEAR THAT SOMETHING WILL 'LEAK' AND CAUSE THE WIRES TO 'BURN' AGAIN,CREATING A POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD. IF THERE IS NO FIRE DUE TO THE BURNT WIRES, THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY OF THE CAR 'SHUTTING DOWN', CAUSING AN ACCIDENT WHICH COULD CAUSE INJURY TO MYSELF OR ANOTHER PARTY. THE GENERAL PUBLIC SHOULD BE WARNED THE BMW TRUNK CAN'T HANDLE TRANSPORTING LIQUID STORED IN CONTAINERS.THE WIRES SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROTECTED FROM WATER DAMAGE DUE TO THEIR LOCATION AND POSSIBLE DAMAGE BY LIQUID. THESE WIRES ARE SOMEWHERE UNDER THE SPARE TIRE IN THE TRUNK AREA, WHICH IS, IN MY OPINION, A FLAW IN THE DESIGN. I WOULD FEEL BAD IF ANYONE WAS INJURED BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF THE WIRES PLACED WHERE THEY ARE & THE FACT THAT THEY ARE NOT PROTECTED FROM LIQUID. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW 528I (NA). THE CONTACT STATED THAT A SEALED BOTTLE OF WATER STORED IN THE TRUNK LEAKED. THE LEAK CAUSED AN ELECTRICAL SHORTAGE, WHICH BURNED THE WIRES AND MODULATORS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000.
2008 BMW 535XI WAGON. ENGINE MISFIRING/LOSING POWER AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. DEALER FIRST RESET COMPUTER..HAPPENED AGAIN. DEALER REPLACED FUEL PUMP..HAPPENED AGAIN. DEALER REPLACED A CYLINDER INJECTOR....GOOD SO FAR. *TR
I HAVE A BMW 335I BOUGHT ON MARCH 28, 2008 AND IT HAS STALLED ON ME AND DIED OVER 4 TIMES. THE CAR NOW HAS 1000 MILES. THE FIRST TIME IT WENT ON LIMP MODE WAS AT 500 MILES AND THE FIRST TIME IT STALLED AND TOWED TO THE DEALER WAS AT 750 MILES. THE DEALER HAS TOLD ME THE PROBLEM IS FAULTY GAS, WHICH WAS MY PROBLEM, AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS OF A NEW GAS PUMP, NEW INJECTORS AND TO CLEAN OUT MY BRAND NEW GAS TANK, SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS IN REPAIRS. I JUST GOT MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER AGAIN THIS AFTERNOON, JUNE 23, 2008, AND WILL BE IN THE SERVICE FOR THE SAME THING, A FAULTY GAS PUMP, FOR THE SECOND TIME. *TR
NOTE THIS IS FOR A 2008 BMW 335XI NOT A BMW 550I I HAVE A 2008 BMW 335XI WHICH HAS HAD TWO FUEL PUMP FAILURES WITHIN A WEEK. FIRST WAS ON JUNE 9TH WHERE MY HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE WAS DETECTED IN THE VEHICLE AND THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED. A WEEK LATER, AND LESS THAN 100 MILES, THE FUEL PUMP DIED AGAIN WITH AN ERROR MESSAGE OF ENGINE MALFUNCTION; REDUCED POWER... AND THE CAR KEPT RUNNING ROUGH... TWO MONTHS LATER, THE CONSUMER HAD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER DUE TO THE SAME PROBLEM PREVIOUSLY. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER AGAIN IT WAS THE FUEL VALVES. THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM FOR A THIRD TIME, IN HE LOST VIRTUALLY ALL POWER IN THE ENGINE. SO FAR, THE DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. *JB

WHEN ENGINE IS COLD, CAR WILL NOT SHIFT INTO REVERSE. IT MUST BE SHIFTED INTO DRIVE BEFORE IT WILL SHIFT INTO REVERSE. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS IN AUGUST-SEPTEMBER 2007. THE GEAR SHIFT WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER. IT HAPPENED AGAIN IN OCTOBER OR NOVEMBER, 2008. THE DEALER DOWNLOADED ALL THE SOFTWARE RELATED TO GEAR SHIFTING AND RE-LOADED IT. THE SHIFT WORKED ABOUT ONE MONTH UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN. AS SOON AS I CAN GET THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY WILL HAVE A THIRD OPPORTUNITY TO FIX THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
2008 BMW 528I. CONSUMER STATES UNEXPLAINED ENGINE SHUT DOWN *TGW THE NAVIGATION SCREEN FLASHED OVERHEATING; REDUCE SPEED; AND PULL OVER, THEN THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHEN THE THIRD MESSAGE WAS RECEIVED. THE SHUT DOWN WAS TRACED TO A FAULTY ELECTRONIC WATER PUMP. *JB
