TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 BMW 745LI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, BUT BEGAN TO ROLL BACKWARD OUT OF A GARAGE. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE BY ENGAGING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND ALL OF THE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 80,071.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 BMW 760LI. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MERGE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE STALLED APPROXIMATELY FIVE TIMES INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIANS STATED BOTH HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMPS NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000.
OWNER OF '04 745I AS OF 4/8/11. LAST MONTH RECEIVED NOTICE STATING "DEFAULT IN DRIVER RESTRAINT SYSTEM & AIRBAG ILLUMINATED CONSTANTLY & MESSAGE STATING AIRBAG MAY NOT OPERATE." TOOK A TRIP TO MISSOURI LAST WK & RECEIVED A NOTICE THAT THERE'S A FAULT IN PASS RESTRAINT SYSTEM, RED ILLUMINATED LIGHT, AIRBAG MAY NOT OPERATE." BMW STATED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO HOOK IT UP TO A MACHINE ($225) TO READ THE CODE AND THAT IT MAY BE FROM PEOPLE MOVING AROUND IN THE SEAT AND THAT AFTER RETRIEVING THE CODE, THE LABOR & PARTS COULD RANGE FROM $250-$3000. *TT
I PURCHASED A 2004 BMW 745 LI FROM LEXUS DEALERSHIP IN MD, I DROVE TO FAYETTEVILLE, NC BECAUSE IM IN THE MILITARY. 1 WEEK AFTER BEING HOME AT FT BRAGG I STARTED THE CAR IN THE MORNING AND THEN THE TRANSFAIL SAFE LIGHT CAME ON WHEN I ARRIVED AT WORK. 4/12/2011 WHILE DRIVING TO WORK IN FULL HEAVY TRAFFIC THE COOLANT LIGHT CAME ON WITH A YELLOW INDICATOR AND TOLD ME TO DRIVE MODERATELY. WHILE TRYING TO DRIVE TO A GAS STATION THE RED INDICATOR CAME ON AND TOLD ME TO STOP SAFELY AND THIS IS WHILE IN TRAFFIC. THIS COMPUTER IS ALWAYS SAYING SOMETHINGS WRONG WHEN ITS NOT AND IM AFRAID THAT WHEN SOMETHING IS REALLY WRONG I WONT KNOW IF IT IS LEGITIMATE. I CHECKED THE COOLANT LEVEL AND IT WAS FULL. OIL WAS A LITTLE LOW BUT NO INDICATOR CAME ON FOR THAT. STARTED THE CAR BACK UP AND IT DROVE FINE. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THESE COMPUTERS IN BMW CARS. THESE COMPUTER PROBLEM CAN BE A PLOY TO CONSTANTLY PURGE MONIES FROM CONSUMERS POCKET PLEASE HELP. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 BMW 745LI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SOFT AND EXTENDED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP IMMEDIATELY WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS FUNCTIONING NORMALLY. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN REPAIRED ACCORDING TO RECALL 10V446000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:VACUUM). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 103,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 99,000.

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.

WHILE DRIVING ABOVE 50 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE EXCESSIVELY AND THEN STALL WITHOUT WARNING SIMILAR TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 04V344000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM, PCM). BOTH THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PREVIOUS RECALL AND OFFERED NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT MILEAGES WAS 51,600 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGES WAS 51,550.
NUMEROUS WARNING LIGHTS INCLUDING "POSSIBLE TRANSMISSION FAILURE" AND "LOSS OF STABILITY CONTROL" LIT UP ON MY 2004 BMW 745LI. THE VEHICLE LOST ITS ABILITY TO ACCELERATE, WHICH EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IN THE HIGH TRAFFIC SITUATION I WAS EXPERIENCING ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS FAILURE IS IN ADDITION TO NUMEROUS WARNING INDICATOR LIGHTS THAT APPEAR INTERMITTENTLY IN THE VEHICLE AND THEN RESET THEMSELVES ONCE THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. THE DIAGNOSIS BY BMW WAS THAT THE MECHATRONIC UNIT ON THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED (AFTER ONLY 70,000 MILES, THIS IS BARELY THE BREAK IN PERIOD FOR THESE VEHICLES). THE TOTAL REPAIR COST WAS QUOTED AT $5,000. THE MACHATRONICS UNIT WAS REPLACED AND SEEMS TO BE WORKING FOR NOW. UPON READING UP ON ISSUES RELATED TO THE BMW 745LI IT IS AMAZING THAT NO MAJOR RECALL HAS BEEN INITIATED ON ITS ELECTRICALS, TRANSMISSION, AND COMPUTERIZED CONTROL SYSTEMS. ALL OF THESE SEEM LIKE HUGE SAFETY CONCERNS AS THE VEHICLE TENDS TO FAIL WHILE IN TRAFFIC. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V446000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:VACUUM) AND BEGIN TO LEAK OIL ABNORMALLY TWO MONTHS AFTER THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND DETERMINED THAT THE OIL LEAK WAS COMING FROM THE VACUUM PUMP. THE CONTACT SECURED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER AND WAS AWAITING POSSIBLE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,130. UPDATED 06/01/11*LJ UPDATED 06/02/11
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 BMW 745LI. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG DRIVER RESTRAINT SYSTEM FAULT LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT IT MIGHT BE A PROBLEM WITH THE SENSOR AND AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

THE VEHICLE RESTARTED ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT AND RESUMED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVEN SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 73,245. UPDATED 5/8/14*CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE KEPT RUNNING AND DID NOT DIE.

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER10V446000, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST VACUUM AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND IT WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT REPLACING THE HOSE WOULD ONLY BE A TEMPORARY REPAIR THAT WOULD CAUSE FUTURE PROBLEMS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 58,500.
I STARTED MY BMW 745I TO WARM IT UP ALONG WITH THE HEATED SEATS. CAME OUT OF MY HOUSE THREE MINUTES LATER TO LEAVE AND SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. I LOOKED AROUND BUT DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING OUTRIGHT OBVIOUS. I STARTED TO DRIVE AWAY WHEN I FELT BURNING SENSATION TO MY LEFT SIDE. I TURNED TO LOOK AND SAW THAT SEAT HEATER WAS BURNING THROUGH THE LEATHER ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BACK OF THE SEAT. I MADE LEFT A MESSAGE WITH A SERVICE REP AT "NEW COUNTRY BMW" OF HARTFORD,CT WITH NO RETURN CALL WITHIN 24 HOURS AS THERE ANSWERING SERVICE PROMISES. I THEN BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO "NEW COUNTRY BMW" OF HARTFORD, CT WHERE THE SERVICE REP TOLD MYSELF HE HAD "NEVER HEARD OF THERE BEING A SEAT HEATER RECALL". *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR ROUTINE REPAIR AND THE TECHNICIAN DETECTED OIL LEAKING FROM THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP INTO THE ENGINE. IN CONJUNCTION TO THE RECALL REPAIR THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP WAS REPLACED AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL REMEDY WAS NOT SUFFICIENT AND FAILED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 67,000.
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2004 BMW 745I. I RECEIVED A LETTER IN NOVEMBER 2010 FROM BMW STATING THAT THERE WAS RECALL ON BRAKE VACUUM PUMP. ON NOVEMBER 11 2010 BEFORE RECEIVING THIS RECALL LETTER. I HAD REPAIRS DONE TO MY BRAKE VACUUM PUMP. WHEN I CALLED BMW TO GET MY MONEY REFUNDED THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME "IT WAS DIFFERENT." I WAS CHARGED OVER 6,000 DOLLARS FOR THIS SERVICE. I HAVE SPOKEN TO SEVERAL PEOPLE AND WAS GIVEN DIFFERENT NUMBERS TO TRY TO GET MY MONEY BACK AND HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL. I ALSO NOTICED ON A FEBRUARY 2011 ST. PETE TIMES ISSUE BMW WAS FINED $3MILLION DOLLARS FOR DELAYING RECALLS. I HAVE ALL DOCUMENTATIONS TO SUPPORT MY ARGUMENT TO INCLUDE THE ARTICLE OF THE ST. PETE TIMES. *TR
HARD TO START, CRANKS FOR A WHILE TILL IT BUILDS UP PRESSURE THEN STARTS. IDLES ROUGH AND SOMETIMES DIES WHEN SITTING AT STOP LIGHT, AND SPUTTERING POWER AT TIME WHEN TAKING OFF, ALSO WHEN IT STALLS WHILE DRIVING IT IS A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER FOR STEERING AND OTHER CONTROLS, VERY DANGEROUS WHEN IT HAPPENS. BMW STATES IT IS THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AND THE PART IS $2,700 + 1300 LABOR. THIS IS THE FLAGSHIP CAR FOR BMW. PLEASE RECALL AND REPLACE BOTH PUMPS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. WHY SHOULD ONE HAVE TO PAY A HIGH AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR A CAR THAT HAS A KNOWN DEFECT AND IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO MERGE ONTO THE HIGHWAY, THE TRANSMISSION SAFE MODE ACTIVATED AS THE VEHICLE DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE DYNAMIC DRIVE WARNING LIGHT ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE COULD POSSIBLY BECOME DEFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 BMW 745LI. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN A FEW MONTHS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT A SOFTWARE UPGRADE WAS NEEDED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 68,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 BMW 745I. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD BECOME INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS AND RESULTED IN AN ABNORMALLY SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN BRAKING DISTANCE AND TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED THREE TIMES FOR THE SAME FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE ENGINE OIL FILTER DRAIN PLUG IS INSUFFICIENT, CAUSING A LARGE LOSS OF OIL TO LEAK. THIS HAS AFFECTED AND DAMAGED THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
VEHICLE TYPE IS A 2004 745LI BMW V-8 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION. WHEN THE CAR IS IN 5TH GEAR THE CAR HICCUPS LIKE IT WANTS TO UP SHIFT BUT THEN DOES NOT. IT CAUSE THE CAR IT JERK EVERY 3 TO 5 SECONDS WHEN IN 5TH GEAR. WHEN THE CAR IS IN ANY OTHER GEAR IN DOES NOT DO THIS. I HAVE HAD A TRANSMISSION FLUID COMPLETELY CHANGED OUT. IN WHICH THE FLUID SMELLED BURNT AND LOOKED BROWN IN COLOR. BMW SAYS THAT IT IS A LIFE TIME FLUID (IT IS NOT). WHEN THE CAR IS ACCELERATING THROUGH 5TH GEAR IT DOES NOT DO THE PROBLEM EITHER. THERE IS SOMETHING CLEARLY WRONG WHICH THE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE TAKING THE CAR TO TWO INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION SHOPS AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA. I HAVE LEARNED THAT THE CAR WILL STAY IN 6TH GEAR AT 45 MPH AND NORMALLY CRUISE IN THE CITY IN 4TH GEAR AT LOWER SPEEDS AND AVOID 5TH GEAR WITH THE USE OF THE MANUAL SHIFTS ON THE STEERING WHEEL. ALSO, THE DYNAMIC DRIVE SYSTEM FAILS ABOUT ONCE A MONTH IN WHICH YOU CAN TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN AND THE CAR DYNAMIC DRIVE SYSTEM WORKS FINE FOR A MONTH OR SO. THIS CAUSES THE CAR CHASSIS TO ROLL WHEN CORNERING. DURING THIS TIME OF FAILURE THE STEREO MAKES ODD NOISES IN WHICH I THINK IT IS BECAUSE THE STEREO VOLUME IS SET TO GET LOUDER AS THE CAR SPEED INCREASES. THESE ISSUES ALL TEND TO HAPPEN AT THE SAME TIME. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 BMW 745LI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS STALLING WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH. IN ADDITION, THE AIR BAG, ENGINE, AND TRANSMISSION WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION SAFETY MODULE FAILED. THE REPAIR COST WAS ESTIMATED AT $1,200. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V344000 (POWER TRAIN: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: CONTROL MODULE); THEREFORE, THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 136,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR OPENED SLIGHTLY ON ITS OWN, AND THE SOFT CLOSE DOORS MUST HAVE REACTED AND CLOSED IT BACK SHUT. *TR
TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN FAILING ON MY 2004 754LI THE FIRST YEAR I PURCHASED IT. I HAVE SENT TO THE VIST BMW IN CYPRESS CREEK FLORIDA OVER 20 TIMES IT STAYED IN THE THEIR HANDS FOR WEEKS ON END AND ALWAYS TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. FOR YEARS IT WAS A CONSTANT CHORE TO DRIVE 30 MILES TO THEIR FACILITY AND FOR THEM TO INSPECT MY COMPLAINT TO SIMPLY TO TELL ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. LOW AND BEHOLD MY WARRANTY EXPIRED AND WHEN I WENT THERE AGAIN, THEY SAID " WELL IT SEEMS LIKE YOUR TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING AND WOULD NEED EXTENSIVE REPAIRS". IMMEDIATELY, I COMPLAINED AND BEGAN TO REQUEST SUPERVISORS. THEY ONCE AGAIN CONTACTED THE BMW NORTH AMERICA SUPERVISOR WHO SAID THEY WILL NOT WARRANTY THIS COMPLAINT REGARDLESS OF THE DOCUMENTED HISTORY. I HAVE WASTED OVER 100 DAYS OF MY CAR BEING IN THE SHOP AND AT THIS POINT I CANNOT DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION IS CONSTANTLY FAILING AND THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE. I PAID CLOSE TO 90K FOR THIS VEHICLE AND PLENTY OF ADDITIONAL MONIES FOR RENTALS AND ADDITIONAL REPAIRS DUE TO THE INABILITY OF THE CARS TRANSMISSION TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE OCCUPANT DETENTION SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE DETENTION SYSTEM WAS RESET; HOWEVER, THE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PURCHASING THE REPAIR PART THAT WILL PROGRAM THE COMPUTER. RECALL 04V379000 FOR THE SEATS IS RELATED TO THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. I SAW SPARKS AND HEARD MORE GRINDING NOISES. LUCKILY TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AND I WAS ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. AS I PULLED TO SHOULDER, IT WAS APPARENT WHAT HAD HAPPENED, MY WHEELS JUST FELL APART. AFTER ABOUT TEN MINUTES A POLICE OFFICER STOPPED BY AND CALLED A WRECKER. THE FOLLOWING DAY I REPLACED THE DAMAGED SEVAS S-10 WHEELS WITH MY FACTORY WHEELS AND REALIZED JUST HOW BAD IT COULD'VE BEEN. THE WHEELS WERE COMPLETELY SEVERED THE ONLY THING HOLDING THE WHEELS TOGETHER WERE THE TIRES, WHICH THEMSELVES WERE BADLY DAMAGED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT A NEW BATTERY WAS NEEDED AND SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY $600. SHE DID NOT BELIEVE THAT THE ISSUE CENTERED AROUND THE BATTERY.
