MY SON WAS DRIVING IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC (CITY STREET) BARELY GOING 5 MILES PER HOUR. HE STEPS ON THE BRAKES AND HIS AIRBAGS DEPLOY. NO COLLISION WAS MADE BETWEEN HIS CAR AND THE CAR IN FRONT HIM. ALL THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED EXCEPT PASSENGER SIDE. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS SHOULD HAPPEN AT 10MPH OR GREATER AND A COLLISION. NO COLLISION GOING AROUND 5MPH. HARD TO JUSTIFY. MY SON WAS VERY SHAKEN BY THIS INCIDENT WHERE IS ALMOST AFRAID TO DRIVE. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, I PLACED A CALL TO BMW NORTH AMERICA. THEY ARE SENDING A INVESTIGATOR OUT TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. SINCE THER WAS NO COLLISION INSURANCE ISN'T GOING TO COVER ANY REPAIRS AND BMW NA ISN'T ACTING AS IF THEY WILL DO ANYTHING. I HAVE READ SEVERAL BLOGS AND COMPLAINTS ABOUT RECALLS ON THE BMW AIRBAGS FROM ALL MAKES AND MODELS. THE CAR 135,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN A GREAT FIRST CAR FOR MY SON. THE CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND I'M HOPING, PRAYING THEY CAN OR WILL FIX IT.
MY BMW X3 HAS HAD ITS ENGINE MOUNT BOLTS SHEARED OFF. THERE ARE NO INDICATIONS OF THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE HAVING BEEN HIT BY ANY OBJECTS. THE VEHICLE'S MILEAGE IS IN THE LOW 90,000 MILE RANGE. AN INTERNET SEARCH REVEALS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM HAPPENING TO MANY BMW X3'S, AT LOW MILEAGE. THEY ALSO CLAIM THAT THE BROKEN MOTOR MOUNT BOLTS, COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE BMW SERVICE MANAGER, I TALKED TO, INDICATED THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS SIMILAR ISSUES, BUT WAS NOT AWARE HOW WIDE SPREAD THE PROBLEM IS. HIS GUESS OF WHY THIS MAY BE HAPPENING IS DUE TO DIFFERENT THERMAL EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION OF THE 3 DIFFERENT METALS INVOLVED IN THE MOUNTING SYSTEM. THE WAY I DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE ENGINE OIL DRAIN PLUG WAS MISALIGNED WITH A PROTECTIVE SHROUD. I HAVE BEEN OCCASIONALLY NOTICING A THUMP COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I HAD MY BALL JOINTS AND FRONT-END CHECKED OUT ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT FINE. I SUSPECT NOW, THAT THE THUMP SOUND IS DUE TO THE SHEARED ENGINE MOUNT BOLTS. IF THAT'S INDEED THE CASE, I WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE VECHILE WITH THE ENGINE MOUNT BOLTS SHEARED OFF FOR ABOUT 1-1/2 YEARS, UNAWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE ENGINE MOUNTS ARE NOT EASILY INSPECTABLE, WHICH IS PROBABLY WHY THE MECHANIC THAT CHECKED OUT MY FRONT END SUSPENSION DIDN'T CHECK THE ENGINE MOUNTS AT THAT TIME.
ON 8/4/2016 AROUND 7:20AM. I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE AT WORK. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND WAS A COMPLETE STOP. SHIFTING FROM DRIVE TO PARK. THE CAR EXCELERATED THROWING ME BACK INTO MY SEAT. I KEPT PUSHING THE BRAKE AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP. THE CAR WENT AIRBORNE AND EXCELERATED A SECOND TIME. I HIT A FIRE HYDRANT AND LANDED IN THE STREET. I WAS THEN ABLE TO STOP THE CAR. THE DISTANCE FROM THE PARKING STOP TO THE ROAD WAS ABOUT 20 FEET. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A BMW DEALER. BMW HAD MY CAR FOR 8 WEEKS. THEY HAD 2 DIFFERENT TECHS COME IN TO LOOK AT THE CAR. THE OUT COME WAS THAT THE BRAKES ARE FINE AND IT DID NOT HAVE ANY CODES. NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE CAR. I TOLD THEM THAT I DIDN'T WANT THE CAR BACK. SINCE THEY DIDN'T SEE AN ISSUE I TOLD THEM I WOULD TRADE IT IN AND THEY COULD BE LIABLE FOR SOMEONE ELSE GETTING HURT. FUNNY HOW ALL OF THE SUDDEN THEY TOTALED OUT THE CAR. I ENDED UP GETTING A CONCUSSION AND WHIPLASH AND WILL BE DOCTORING FOR A WHILE. THE PERSON AT BMW THAT WAS TAKING CARE OF THIS IS MICHAEL AND HIS PHONE NUMBER IS 201-571-5820. WE WERE TOLD BY AMERICAN FAMILY INSURANCE PERSON THAT GOING AFTER BMW TO GET THE REPORTS FROM THE TECHS WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT. WE REALLY WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THE REPORTS SAY. I FEEL LIKE WE WERE GIVEN THE RUN AROUND. I WANT BMW TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THEY HAVE ISSUES WITH SUDDEN EXCELERATION. I AM VERY ANGRY ON HOW I WAS TREATED. THEY GAVE US NO INFORMATION AND WE WERE WITHOUT A CAR FOR 7 WEEKS. THE LAST WEEK THEY FINALLY GAVE US A RENTAL. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS FOR ME.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT HEATER WIRE BURNED THROUGH THE SEAT, MELTED A SPOT ON MY VINYL RAINCOAT AND SUBSEQUENTLY BURNED MY BUTTOCK. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET AT THE TIME.
WAS DRIVING DOWN MY BMW X3 DOWN THE ROAD WITH MY SEAT WARMERS ON AND THE INSIDE OF MY CAR STARTED TO SMELL LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING I FIGURED SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH MY SEAT WARMER SO I TURNED IT OFF A LITTLE WAYS DOWN THE ROAD I PULLED OVER TO CHECK AND MAKE SURE MY SEAT WAS OKAY AND NOTICED A SMALL BURN ON THE BOTTOM LEFT ON THE BACK OF MY SEAT AND I CHECKED MY SWEATER AND THERE WAS A BURN MARK ON IT TOO
"TAKATA RECALL" I STARTED MY CAR TO WARM UP IN THE MORNING PRIOR TO GOING TO WORK FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN MY CAR JUST SHUT OFF-IT WAS BELOW ZERO DURING THE NIGHT SO I CALLED FOR A TOW AND TOOK TO SHOP AND PER OWNER OF SHOP HE HAD TO CALL BMW AS SHOP WAS NOT A BMW SHOP AS HE COULD NOT FIND OUT WHY CAR SHUT OFF-BMW STATED TO HIM THAT HE HAS TO ORDER A COLD WEATHER KIT THAT BMW MAKES SO THIS WONT HAPPEN AGIAN OR ELSE ENGINE CAN BLOW UP-PER BMW ALSO THEY HAVE BEEN AWARE OF THIS ISSUE WITH MY MODEL THEREFORE THAT IS WHY THERE IS A KIT. MY GUESTIION TO YOU IS I WOULD THINK THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ISSUE AND I DO NOT SEE ON BMW RECALL WEBISTE WHERE THIS HAS EVE BEEN RE-CALLED SO PER SHOP IS $250.00 FOR KIT FROM BMW AND $500.00 LABOR AS MUCH LABOR INVOLED SO I WANTED TO CHECK WITH YOU HOW I AM RESPONISBLE FOR THIS AND WHY IS NOT BMW NOT-THANK YOU
DRIVER SEAT HEATER COIL BURNED UP WHILE I WAS SITTING IN THE GARAGE PREPARING TO LEAVE CAUSING HOLE IN THE SEAT AND MY PANTS.. I SEARCHED ON YOUTUBE AND IT SHOWED THAT THERE WERE SEVERAL INCIDENTS OF THIS HAPPENING. SHOULDN'T THERE BE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM
I'M FILING THIS COMPLAINT ON BEHALF OF MY WIFE. SHE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY UTILIZING THE HEATED SEAT FUNCTION OF THE VEHICLE TODAY WHEN SHE SMELLED BURNING AND THE SEAT BECAME DANGEROUSLY HOT. SHE PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE HEATING FUNCTION OFF WHICH TEMPORARILY RESOLVED THE THE PROBLEM. A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET REVEALS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2006 MODEL BMW X3S. SOME CASES BEING SO SEVERE THAT PEOPLE'S SEATS HAVE BURNED THEM AND EVEN CAUGHT FIRE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW X3. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE PASSENGER SEAT WARMER BECAME EXTREMELY HOT AND BURNED THE PASSENGER'S LEG. THE WIRING BEGAN TO SMOKE AND THE CONTACT OBERVED A SPARK. NO MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 115,967.
DRIVER'S SEAT HEATER ELEMENT OVERHEATING. TURNED ON SEAT DEC 2015, GOT TOO HOT. USED DIAPER TO INSULATE LEG. SEAT HEATER MELTED DIAPER TO LEATHER. I HAVE NOT USED IT SINCE. AN INTERNET SEARCH INDICATES THIS IS HAPPENING TO OTHER CARS OF THIS MODEL.
HAD AN ACCIDENT ON A CITY STREET. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION & IMPACT WAS ON THE FRONT BUMPER. ALL AIRBAGS DEPLOYED EXCEPT PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. VEHICLE HAD THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LAMP ILLUMINATED FOR A WHILE BEFORE THE ACCIDENT. CALLED DEALER AND BMW LONG BACK WHEN I INITIALLY CAME TO KNOW ABOUT THE RECALL. I WAS DRIVING AND NOTICED A BURNING SMELL. I HAD MY SEAT HEATER ON AND NOTICED A VERY, VERY HOT SPOT ON THE BOTTOM PART OF THE SEAT ON THE LEFT SIDE. "TAKATA RECALL' MY VEHICLE HAS THE VERY SAME ISSUES AS THE ONES BEING RECALLED, BUT IT IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. MY PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON INDICATION IT IS NOT ON EVEN WHEN SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT.IT NEVER GO OFF. RATHER IN MOTION OR STATIONARY.

MY BMW IS 8 YEARS OLD WITH APPROXIMATELY 125 THOUSAND MILES AND BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS ARE DAMAGED. THIS IS A BMW, THE FRAME OF THIS VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE DAMAGE IN THIS TYPE OF CAR. BMW ARE BUILT TO EMBODY THE HIGHEST QUALITY AND SAFETY STANDARDS BUT ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE CAR BODY IS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THERE MOST BE A DEFICIENCY ON THIS PART AND AS FAR AS I KNOW IT SHOULD BE A BMW ORIGINAL PART. WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2009, IT WAS A PRE-CERTIFIED CAR, WHEN I ASKED WHAT THAT MEANT THE SALES PERSON STATED "THAT ALL PARTS WERE CHECKED AND ARE ORIGINALS BMW PARTS". I BAD OTHER TYPE OF VEHICLE FOR OVER 10 YEARS AND NEVER HAD THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM, SO NEVER EXPECTED THIS FROM MY BMW. I WILL APPRECIATE YOUR ASSISTANCE ON THIS MATTER, I BELIEVE THIS PART IS DEFICIENT AND BMW SHOULD BE PAYING FOR THE REPAIRS. I WAS DRIVING WHEN I SMELLED SMOKE AND REALIZED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT HAD CAUGHT FIRE. I STOPPED THE CAR, JUMPED OUT, AND SAW THAT A HOLE HAD BURNED THROUGH THE CAR SEAT AND I COULD SEE FLAMES. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THIS HAS NOT TRIGGERED A RECALL AS IT IS OBVIOUSLY EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO HAVE YOUR CAR CATCH ON FIRE WHILE DRIVING. *TR
DRIVER SIDE HEATED SEAT CAUGHT ON FIRE. *TR
SEAT HEATING SYSTEM ISSUE: WITHOUT ANY EARLIER WARNING SIGNS THE DRIVER SEAT OVERHEATED VERY QUICKLY (WITHIN ONE MINUTE OF TURNING ON THE SEAT HEATERS) TO THE POINT OF BURNING THE DRIVERS SKIN. A BURNING SMELL OCCURRED AT THE SAME TIME. THE DRIVER HAD TO GET UP FROM THE SEAT RAPIDLY TO AVOID ANY SERIOUS BURNS. THIS MADE BRINGING THE VEHICLE TO A CONTROLLED STOP VERY DIFFICULT. THE DRIVER WAS HALFWAY UP FROM THE SEAT WITH THE SEATBELT HOLDING THE DRIVER BACK. THIS COULD HAVE LEAD EASILY TO AN ACCIDENT AS IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL A VEHICLE IN THAT POSITION. FORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLE WAS STILL AT A SLOW SPEED AND OPERATED IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA. HOWEVER, THE RISK OF AN ACCIDENT OR INJURIES AT A HIGHER SPEED AND/OR MORE POPULATED AREA WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH GREATER. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY RELATED DEFECT UNDER THE UNITED STATES CODE FOR MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY (TITLE 49, CHAPTER 301). PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON SPORADICALLY FOR NO REASON. *TR
I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT WARMER IN MY 2006 BMW X3 STARTING ON ABOUT OCTOBER 21, 2013. WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A COUPLE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, I FELT A "SHOCK" IN MY LEFT THIGH. I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING ABOUT IT UNTIL THE SEAT WARMER STOPPED WORKING ALL TOGETHER. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER TO FIX AND FOUND THAT THE ENTIRE HEATING ELEMENT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED, AT A COST OF OVER $1500. AS I AM LOOKING INTO THE PROBLEM, I FOUND THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO NUMEROUS OTHERS. I AM FORTUNATE THAT THERE WAS NOT A MORE SERIOUS INJURY, AND THAT MY SEAT WAS NOT DAMAGED TO THE EXTENT THAT OTHERS HAVE ENCOUNTERED. HOWEVER, THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE PROBLEM AND BMW SHOULD BE TAKING CARE OF IT. *TR
FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANT SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE. THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED CONSTANTLY ALONG WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG OFF LIGHT. STARTED THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY THIS MORNING AND LET THE ENGINE IDLE FOR A MINUTE OR TWO BEFORE DRIVING OFF, I ENERGIZED THE DRIVERS SIDE HEATED SEAT TO THE LOWEST SETTING, AFTER 10 SEC OR SO I STARTED TO SMELL A BURNING ODOR AND FELT A SHARP PAIN UNDER MY LEFT THIGH. I TURNED OFF THE HEATED SEAT IMMEDIATELY, SHUT THE CAR OFF, AND GOT OUT OFF THE CAR TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. I NOTICED A SMALL BLACK BURN MARK ON THE SEAT THAT WAS VERY WARM TO THE TOUCH. I CALLED BMW NORTH AMERICA TO FILE A COMPLAINT, THE LADY ON THE PHONE TOOK MY INFORMATION AND STATEMENT AS TO WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND SUGGESTED THAT I TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED BMW DEALER FOR INSPECTION. I HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED LATER THIS AFTERNOON BY CONCORD BMW AND WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT SINCE THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY THAT THE DEALER WOULD NOT COVER ANY REPAIR COST OF THE DAMAGED SEAT. I ASKED IF THEY WOULD CONTACT BMW NORTH AMERICA ON MY BEHALF AND ASK THEM TO AUTHORIZE AND PAY FOR THE REPAIR DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THE EVENT, HEATED SEATS ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO CATCH FIRE AND MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE DRIVING THE VEHICLE COULD HAVE BEEN BURNED. I WAS TOLD NO, THAT I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE IT UP WITH BMW NORTH AMERICA ON MY OWN. *TR
JAN 16 - CHECK ENGINE SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON - CAR RUNNING SLUGGISH. IMMEDIATELY TOOK TO DEALERSHIP - THEY DETECTED OIL SEPARATOR FAILING. CAR STARTED SMOKING AT DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED THE OIL SEPARATOR AND SEVERAL PARTS DUE TO DAMAGE - COSTS $2400. MARCH 22ND - SAME SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON - TOOK CAR BACK TO DEALERSHIP - THEY HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR 1 WEEK AND STILL HAVE NOT TOLD ME WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT OTHER THAN THERE IS OIL EVERYWHERE AND I MAY HAVE HEAD GASKET OR ENGINE DAMAGE. POSSIBLY LOOKING AT ANOTHER $1K TO $5K. THERE IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT WITH THIS PART CAUSING SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. THIS IS WIDELY KNOWN AND WELL DOCUMENTED ALL OVER THE INTERNET. THIS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY BMW AND CONSUMERS SHOULD BE GIVEN RELIEF ON THE COSTS. BMW SHOULD SUPPORT THE CORRECTION OF THIS DEFECT AND PAY FOR THE COST OF REPAIR. I FELT A BURNING SENSATION UNDER MY LEFT LEG AND PULLED THE CAR OVER. NOTICED THAT THE SEAT HAD CRACKED AND THERE WAS A DISCOLORATION INDICATING A BURN. I SWITCHED OFF THE HEATED SEAT AND CONTINUED. I HAVE FELT THIS BURNING SENSATION A FEW OTHER TIMES AND WOULD TURN DOWN THE HEAT OR SWITCH IT OFF ALTOGETHER. THE DEALER SUGGESTED A CHANGE OF THE SEAT COVER WHICH COSTS UPWARDS OF 1000 $S *TR
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR HAS CONTINUOUSLY STAYED LIT SINCE INITIAL ACTIVATION, INDICATING THERE IS NO OCCUPANT IN THE SEAT WHEN ONE IS PRESENT. THE AIRBAG SYSTEM WILL NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. A RECALL HAS BEEN MADE BY BMW ON THIS SAME ISSUE AND HAS CLASSIFIED IT AS AN AIRBAG MAT SENSOR ISSUE WITH MY YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL INCLUDED. HOWEVER, MY VIN IS NOT SHOWING UP AS A DEFECTIVE VEHICLE WHEN THE EXACT SAME ISSUE IS HAPPENING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, NOT COSMETIC. IF ANY ISSUE PRESENTS ITSELF THAT WILL INFLICT HARMS TO OCCUPANTS, IT SHOULD BE A MANDATORY RECALL REGARDLESS OF VIN. IT HAS BEEN THE VAPOR SEAL ALONG THE DOOR, TOP PART OF DOOR NEAR WINDOW, SEAL ALONG THE WINDSHIELD AND FINALLY FROM THE SUNROOF LEADING TO DRAIN LEADING TO INTERIOR OF CAR. I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE THAT NO ELECTRICAL ISSUES HAVE INCURRED, BUT DUE TO THE HIGH RISK OF THAT HAPPENING, WANTED TO REPORT THE SITUATION. THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR OVER A YEAR (FIXED VARIOUS ISSUES WITH FLOODING EVERY FEW MONTHS). BMW ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THE X3 HAS WATER ISSUES BUT THAT IT IS NO FAULT OF THEIR'S. I UNDERSTAND A VAPOR SEAL NEEDING TO BE REPLACED ONCE IN A WHILE- BUT THIS IS FAR AND BEYOND HAPPENING WAY TOO FREQUENTLY. JUST DON'T WANT ANY OF THE LARGER POSSIBILITIES TO COME INTO PLAY.
