My vehicle appears to be experiencing fuel wire problems , along with the smell of gas, consistent with those described in recall number 16V-746000. I would appreciate it if you would investigate this matter further and advise on the appropriate course of action to address this concern. WHILE DRIVING HOME ON THE MOST DANGEROUS HIGHWAY IN COLORADO, MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY WENT FROM DOING 75MPH TO 50MPH DURING TRAFFIC HOUR, ALMOST CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT, WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR. SO VERY DANGEROUS. THE ENGINE LIGHT AND THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION MESSAGE CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO MERGE OFF THE HIGHWAY AND HAVE MY CAR AND HAVE A MECHANIC TAKE A LOOK AT IT. THE ERROR CODE IS P15DF (HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP). I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THIS AND FOUND THAT BMW HAD BEEN TAKEN TO COURT ON THIS SAFETY ISSUE. BMW HAD RECALLED 1000'S OF BMW'S FOR THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE. I WROTE TO BMW CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND THEIR RESPONSE BASICALLY IS THAT MY CAR'S VIN DOES TO QUALIFY FOR THIS RECALL. I STATED TO THEM THAT IT SHOULD BE RECALLED BECAUSE IT HAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS THE 1000'S THAT WERE RECALLED. IN REALITY THEY DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR IT. I FEEL THAT MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED TO INCLUDE 1000'S OF OTHER X5'S, BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MOMENTUM BMW (10002 SOUTHWEST FWY, HOUSTON, TX 77074) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
EMISSION LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY. BMW DIAGNOSED IT WAS A FAULTY DMTL PUMP (LEAK DIAGNOSIS PUMP). DEALER (BMW) DECLINED COVER UNDER EMISSION WARRANTY.
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AT 35 MILES PER HOUR SUDDENLY THE CAR LOST POWER STEERING WHEEL LOCKED SO IT WAS HARD TO KEEP CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I TRIED RESTARTING THE CAR BUT WITH NO RESULTS. A POLICEMAN HAD TO STAY BEHIND ME ALL THE TIME FOR OVER AN HOUR UNTIL A TOWING TRUCK CAME TO TOW THE CAR. BMW DIAGNOSTE THE CAR BEFORE WITH A FUEL RAIL REGULATOR. SO I WENT AND REPLACED THAT COMPONENT STILL THE CAR DID NOT WANT TO START!?. SO I TOWED IT TO BMW AFTER 4 DAYS OF DIAGNOSTICS THAT THEY SAID THE DIAGNOSTICS ITSELF IS $1900! THEY CAME TO A CONCLUSION THAT THE FUEL HIGH PRESSURE PUMP FAILED AND CONTAMINATED THE FUEL SYSTEM AND BROKE THE INJECTORS AND MESSED UP THE WHOLE FUEL SYSTEM. THEIR ESTIMATE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE IS OVER $11000! AND TO JUST REPLACE THE FAILED AND CLEAN UP THE FUEL SYSTEM IT WILL COST ME OVER $4000. THE CAR IS ONLY $75000 HOW WOULD A MAJOR FAILURE HAPPEN TO THAT COMPONENT. THERE WAS NO MISFUELING, THEY CHECKED THE DIESEL AND THEY SAID IT IS NOT GAS AND IT DOES NOT HAVE WATER EITHER. I HAVE READ WHERE OTHER PEOPLE COMPLAINING FROM THE SAME ISSUE FUEL HIGH PRESSURE PUMP FAILURE. IF I WERE ON A HIGHWAY AND SINCE THE CAR DID NOT GIVE ANY NOTICE OR MESSAGE I THINK I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT SINCE THE CAR JUST SHUT DOWN WITH NO WARNING OR SIGN.
FREQUENT ISSUES WITH DEF ACTIVE/PASSIVE TANKS AND SENSORS AND THE DEALER RUNS ABOUT $2500 UPWARD CHARGES FOR EACH OF THESE REPAIRS. THE COMPLETE X5 DIESEL IS FULL OFF ISSUES COMPARED TO THEIR 35I
DIESEL ENGINE, SCR PASSIVE TANK/SENSOR NEEDS REPLACE. BMW DEALER SAID ITS NOT COVERED IN THE WARRANTY (EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 10Y/120K MILES, BUT SCR ACTIVE TANK/SENSOR IS COVERED. WHAT? MY MILEAGE 94K MILES). PASSIVE TANK STILL PART OF THE EMISSIONS SYSTEMS. COST IS $3K REPAIR. I DON'T UNDERSTAND (BMW) PUT THE SENSOR BUILT INTO THE TANK. I'M SURE A LOT OF BMW OWNERS WILL RUN INTO THIS ISSUE COSTING LOTS OF DOLLARS AND PROFIT FOR BMW. NEED TO GET BMW TO COVER THIS COST.
ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT AND CAR OVERHEATING CAUSED BY WATER PUMP, THERE'S NO RECALL FOR MY VIN BUT IT SEEMS THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH BMW X5 MODELS... THE BMW DID A RECALL ON MY X5 AND AFTER THEY FINISHED THE RECALL THE TRANSFER CASE STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY, HOWEVER, THE TRANSFER CASE WAS WORKING PERFECTLY BEFORE THE RECALLED. THE BMW POWER TRAIN RECALL DAMAGE THE TRANSFER CASE
THE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID PASSIVE TANK IN MY BMW X5 HAS FAILED, WHICH FROM WHAT I'VE READ IN MANY FORUMS IS AN UNACCEPTABLY COMMON OCCURRENCE. WHILE TAKING THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THREE OTHER RECALLS ADDRESSED I ASKED ABOUT THE TANK BEING COVERED IN THE EXTENDED EMMISSIONS WARRANTY ON THE CAR. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE MAIN DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID TANK IS COVERED (WHICH THEY REPLACED BECAUSE IT HAD FAILED TOO), BUT THE RESERVE OR PASSIVE TANK WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. NOW THERE IS A COUNTDOWN ON THE DASH THAT IF I DRIVE OVER 900 MILES WITHOUT FIXING IT THE CAR WILL KNOW LONGER START. I HAVE HAD MY DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID FILLED MULTIPLE TIMES BUT THE MESSAGE RETURNS IMMEDIATELY. TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE TANK IS $2,500. I'M MAKING A COMPLAINT BECAUSE AS I SAID THIS IS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE WITH THIS PART AND IF BMW REALIZES THERE IS A DEFECT ON THE MAIN TANK, WHY WOULDN'T THEY ALSO REPLACE THE PASSIVE TANK UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY?
HESITATION STARTING THE CAR, DIAGNOSIS BY DEALER WAS FUEL PUMP FAILING. MILEAGE WAS 65,000. COST TO REPAIR 1500.00. I SEE THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MODEL YEARS 2008-2011.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND BMW SERVICE CENTER TOLD ME THE SENSORS IN THE PASSIVE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID TANK FAILED AND ENTIRE TANK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. BMW EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE ACTIVE TANK, BUT NOT PASSIVE. THINK ITS RIDICULOUS THAT ONLY ONE TANK IS COVERED WHILE THE PASSIVE IS NOT. THIS IS A WELL-DOCUMENTED ISSUE ON BMW'S DIESEL.
ENGINE LOSE POWER AT HIGHWAY SPEED DUE TO FUEL PUMP!! IT HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE ON THE HIGHWAY AND CAR WON'T GO TO THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT. TURN CAR OFF AND RESTART AGAIN EVERYTHING WORKS FINE FOR FEW DAYS.
THE FUEL PUMP SUDDENLY FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 75 MPH (LEGAL SPEED LIMIT) WITH NO WARNING AND CAUSED A STALL CONDITION. I NOTICED THEY (BMW) HAVE A NEW RECALL FOR UP TO THE 2011 MODEL YEAR BUT THEY NEED TO INCLUDE THE 2012 AS WELL. *TR
AN ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON WHEN HARD BREAKING. SOME TIME THE LIGHTS GO OFF AFTER NEXT REFUELING. WHEN CHECK IN, THE COMPUTER INDICATE SOME PROBLEM WITH SENSOR RELATED TO FUEL TANK.
WE USED OUT 2012 BMW X5 DIESEL FOR A ROUND TRIP OF MN TO FL. OCTOBER OF 2015. WE HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED PRIOR TO DEPARTURE AND ASKED IF THERE WAS ANYTHING WE NEEDED TO BE AWARE OF FOR THE LONG TRIP. UPON RETURN TRIP BACK TO MN WE WERE ALERTED BY THE SYSTEM MONITOR THAT THE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID (DEF) WAS LOW. WE WERE 5 HOURS INTO OUR 18 HOUR TRIP FROM FL TO MN. IT WAS SATURDAY AFTER 1:00 PM AND WE STOPPED TO ADD DEF TO THE SYSTEM. THE FILL PORT ON THE X5 WOULD ONLY ACCEPT 4 OZ OF DEF WITH REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO FILL THE RESERVOIR. WE USED THE INTERNET TO SEARCH THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT WITH OUT THE BMW CONTAINER OF DEF THE RESERVOIR WOULD NOT ACCEPT ENOUGH DEF TO FILL THE SYSTEM. WE ALSO DISCOVERED THAT THERE ARE TWO RESERVOIRS. THE BMW MANUAL DID NOT STATE THAT THE BMW BOTTLE WAS NEEDED NOR THAT THERE ARE TWO RESERVOIRS. WE COULD NOT PURCHASE THE BMW BOTTLE AS NO BMW DEALERSHIPS WERE OPEN, NOR WOULD THEY BE THE NEXT DAY. THE BMW SYSTEM ALSO STATED THAT THE ENGINE WOULD SHUT DOWN AFTER THE 200 MILE LIMIT WAS REACHED. WE HAD TO STAY OVERNIGHT IN OUR CURRENT LOCATION AND THEN DRIVE 12 HOURS THE NEXT DAY, SUNDAY, WITH OUT SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF AS IF WE DID THE BMW OVERRIDE WOULD SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN AND WE VERIFIED THAT FACT ON THE WEB. WE MADE IT HOME AND AS SOON AS WE SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN IT WAS DISABLED. WE PURCHASED THE BMW DEF BOTTLE AND FILLED THEY RESERVOIRS. THE SYSTEM DID NOT REST AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. IT TOOK THEM 3 DAYS TO RESET THE SYSTEM AND THEN DISCOVER THE O2 SENSORS WERE NOW NOT FUNCTIONING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, DUE TO THE DEF ISSUE. COST OF THE O2 SENSOR REPLACEMENT IS $2000.00. THE SYSTEM WILL LEAVE YOU STRANDED.BMW'S OWNER MANUAL IS INCORRECT AND NO ONE WILL TELL YOU THAT YOU NEED THE BMW ENGINEERED DEF BOTTLE TO REFILL THEY SYSTEM. WE CONTACTED BMW NORTH AMERICA WITHOUT ANY RESULTS.
SAME THING AS LAST TIME. STARTED UP THE CAR, GOT IT OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND THE ENGINE FAILED. TRIED TO START IT AGAIN, THE ENGINE KEPT TURNING OVER AND FINALLY STARTED UP ENOUGH TO GO INTO THE TOW TRUCK. AT THE BMW DEALERSHIP AGAIN. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 45 MPH THE ENGINE SPUTTERED WITH A MESSAGE DISPLAYING "ENGINE MALFUNCTION" AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STALLED ALL HAPPENING WITHIN ABOUT 5 SECONDS. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE BMW DEALERSHIP. WE WERE ADVISED BY THEIR MASTER TECHNICIAN THAT THE FUEL PRESSURE RAIL SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED (DIAG CODE: D1350_00000000_04_02 AND FAULT 48A9 & 3F31). WE ASKED HIM IF THIS COULD SOMEHOW BE PREVENTED AND HE REPLIED "NO" AND WENT ON TO SAY THAT HE HAS NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING BEFORE. HIS COMMENT WAS TROUBLING TO US, SINCE WE JUST GOT DONE DRIVING ABOUT SIX HOURS ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED NEAR OUR HOME. WHAT IF THIS HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY? I PROBABLY WOULD NOT BE HERE FILING THIS COMPLAINT! PLEASE INVESTIGATE SO THAT THIS CAN BE PREVENTED FROM OTHERS EXPERIENCING THIS TRAUMA. *TR
