I was making a left turn in stopped traffic. Lanes 1 and 2 yielded die to bumper to bumper traffic...as I crossed into lane 3 at 5 to 10 mph...struck by a vehicle going 55 mph plus in opposite direction. My vehicle spun into 3rd vehicle. I hit my head 2 times on driver windows. No airbags deployed. I suffered a traumatic brain injury.

The car currently has 28,899 miles to date. Mid November 2023, the dashboard indicated that there was a default with the safety system. I took the car to the authorized service center and their diagnostics indicated as follows: Faulty crash safety module. The recommendation was to replace and program ACSM control unit. Since this was a matter of my personal safety I had to pay $2100 to fix it. The second issue was the sunroof not closing. The diagnostic found the following problems: excessive corrosion on sunroof cassette it to fail ( water entering the sunroof).

Tires have 3/32nds tread remaining which is unsafe. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Might cause accident when driving especially in freeway. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, confirmed by an independent service center. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes, confirmed by an independent service center. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning messages.

I have 2 bmws with identical issues. Computer reads airbag sensor stating restraint system defective.
I am getting a this message “passenger restraint system malfunction. a lot of people are getting the same message. I find out the reason for that is Water is getting inside the car every time is raining from the passenger side and moisture buildup causing that. Every time I have to use a space heater to dry the car and is cleared it. But I am afraid the airbag not work properly if this keep happening and BMW is charging a lot of money this fix it after few months is came back again.

THREE WARNING MESSAGES APPEAR (I HVE TO CLICK "OK" TO REMOVE THEM) EACH TIME I START THE CAR. THE MESSAGE IS ABOUT THE AIRBAG, THE BELT TENSIONER, AND THE BELT FORCE LIMITER. THIS FOR THE BOTH THE DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE. I CAN STILL DRIVE THE CAR, BUT NOTICE THROUGH EXPEIMENTATION,THAT SOMETIMES WHEN I GIVE A RAPID TUG ON THE SHOULDER BELT IT STOPS AFTER A FEW INCHES (AS IT SHOULD) AND SOMETIMES IT GOES FORWARD A COUPLE OF FEET WITHOUT ANY REISTANCE. I HAVE NOT DONE ANY OTHER EXPERIMENTATION. THIS IS TRUE FOR THE VEHICLE BEING STATIONARY AND IN MOTION. SINCE THE DEALER WANTS $185 JUST TO LOOK (I AM A FEW MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY), I WOULD FIRST LIKE TO KNOW IF OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND THEIR IS THE REALISTIC POSSIBLITY OF A RECALL. THIS WOULD SAVE ME ANALYSIS AND SUBSEQUENT REPAIR EXPENSES.

TAKATA RECALL- VEHICLE AIRBAG SAFETY RECALL
I RECENTLY RECEIVED A TAKATA AUTO AIRBAG NOTICE I CONTACTED MY LOCAL BMW DEALER. THEY CONFIRMED THE AUTOMOBILE WHICH I HAVE HAD SERVICED THERE IN THE PAST, STATED THAT MY AUTOMOBILE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. LATER THAT DAY I WENT ONLINE TO CHECK ON THE WWW.AUTOAIRBAGSETTLEMENT.COM TO CONFIRM THAT MY CAR HAD NOT OTHER RECALLS. THE SITE CONFIRMED THAT MY AUTOMOBILE WAS ON THE RECALL. TAKATA RECALL INQUIRY
I WAS DRIVING MY 2015 X5 (BOUGHT IT NEW IN MARCH AND THE CAR ONLY HAS 2599 MILES RIGHT WHEN THE MALFUNCTION HAPPENED ON AUG 8TH 2015) TO A LOCAL TRADER JOE'S AFTER GETTING OFF FROM HIGHWAY 101 WHEN SUDDENLY EVERYTHING ON THE CAR FAILED. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A LEFT TURN AND ALMOST RAN INTO THE CAR NEXT TO ME WHICH ALSO WAS TURNING LEFT WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME SO STIFF THAT I CAN HARDLY TURN IT. AT THE SAME TIME, THE AIRBAG MALFUNCTION LIGHT IS ON AND THE SAFETY BELT RESTRAINT SYSTEM FAILED. THE SAFETY BELT BECAME SO LOOSE THAT IT DIDN'T EVEN HOLD/RESTRAIN ME DURING THE TURN. THE SPEED METER ALSO FAILED AND IT SHOWED 0 AND EVEN THOUGH WHEN I WAS DRIVING. OTHER FAILURES INCLUDE HEADLIGHT AND TURNING LIGHT. THE RIGHT TURNING WOULD ALWAYS TURN ITSELF ON NO MATTER WHAT. I WAS ABLE TO PARK MY CAR IN A SAFE LOCATION BUT THIS REALLY SCARED THE SH*T OUT OF ME. WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKE AND THE STOP ENGINE BUTTON, THE CAR DIDN'T EVEN SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE. OTHER FAILURES INCLUDE TPM MALFUNCTION, PARKING BRAKE REDUCED, PARKING ASSISTANT MALFUNCTION AND HEADLAMP VERTICAL AIM CONTROL MALFUNCTION. IT'S BEEN AN HOUR SINCE I CALLED FOR A TOWING CAR AND I'M WAITING ANXIOUSLY FOR IT WHILE MY CAR HAS ITS ENGINE ON THE WHOLE TIME. I OWN A 2011 X3 AND NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEM WITH IT. I BOUGHT THIS X5 IN MARCH AND IT ONLY HAS 2599 MILES ON IT. I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF EVERYTHING FAILED JUST WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE 101 HIGHWAY WHICH IS ABOUT 3 MINUTES BEFORE ALL OF THESE HAPPENED. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT I CAN DO? MY HUSBAND WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT NIGHT. HE STATED THAT THE CAR IN FROM OF HIS WAS STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. HE WAS UNABLE TO STOP IN TIME TO AVOID REAR ENDING THE OTHER VEHICLE. WE HAVE A NEW BMW X5 SUV AND HE HIT A LEXUS SUV- BOTH SUBSTANTIAL VEHICLES. BOTH CARS WERE NOT DRIVABLE FOLLOWING THE ACCIDENT. THERE IS MAJOR FRONT END DAMAGE- POSSIBLE THE CAR IS TOTALED. I'M NOT SURE YET. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE IMPACT FRACTURED HIS STERNUM. HE DEVELOPED PNEUMONIA 2 DAYS LATER BECAUSE OF THE PAIN IN BREATHING- THE ACCIDENT WAS WED. NIGHT BUT THE FRACTURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. I TOOK HIM BACK TO THE ER FRI AFTERNOON, WHEN THE FRACTURE AND SUBSEQUENT PNEUMONIA WAS DIAGNOSED. HE WAS ADMITTED TO THE HOSPITAL AND IS STILL THERE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY WANT TO TAKE IT APART TO SEE WHAT NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED OR IF IT IS TOTALED. I WANT TO UNDERSTAND WHY THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND AM AFRAID IF THEY START TAKING THE CAR APART I WILL NEVER KNOW. I WAS TOLD THE NHTSA WOULD HELP ME WITH AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS. PLEASE HELP ME AND LET ME KNOW WHAT I SHOULD DO NEXT. HUSBAND WON'T BE RELEASED FOR SEVERAL DAYS POSSIBLY.
FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT IS INSTALLED INCORRECTLY WITHIN THE B PILLAR CAUSING THE BELT TO BE TWISTED AND INTERFERES WITH THE SPEED AND TOTALITY OF THE BELT'S RETRACTION. I NOTED THIS TO THE SALESMAN AT NEW VEHICLE DELIVERY AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT A SAFETY CONCERN AND THAT THEY'D FIX IT AT THE NEXT SERVICE APPOINTMENT. AT THE SERVICE APPOINTMENT, I COMPLAINED AGAIN ABOUT THE TWISTED SEAT BELT AND WAS FIRST ACCUSED OF TWISTING THE SEAT BELT. THE BMW TECHS ATTEMPTED TO "UNTWIST" THE SEAT BELT AND TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD FIXED IT. UPON RETURN OF THE VEHICLE, THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT STOPPED RETRACTING PROPERLY AND IS STILL TWISTED. THIS DEFECT APPLIES TO ALL STATES OF VEHICLE OPERATION AND DEALER HAS FAILED TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION ON TWO OCCASIONS. I DO NOT TRUST THE SEAT BELT WAS ENGINEERED TO WITHSTAND AN ACCIDENT WHILE INSTALLED BACKWARDS AND CERTAINLY NOT WITH A FOLDED/TWISTED/KINKED BELT. I NOW BELIEVE THIS TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE BMW HAS FAILED TO RECTIFY THIS FACTORY DEFECT WHICH SEEMS TO CREASE AND CAUSE IRREPARABLE HARM TO THE SEAT BELT, BEING RETRACTED IN SUCH A STATE. I DO NOT WANT A PASSENGER INJURED OR KILLED BECAUSE OF A FACTORY DEFECTIVE SEAT BELT WHICH I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO RECTIFY SINCE TAKING DELIVERY OF THIS CUSTOM-ORDERED VEHICLE IN 10/2015. 3 PHOTOS OF IMPROPERLY INSTALLED FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT INCLUDED.
