THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS WIFE'S CO-WORKER NOTICED BUBBLES ON THE SIDEWALL OF THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTO CENTER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIRE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO PAY OUT OF POCKET AND SEEK REIMBURSEMENT; HOWEVER, THE TIRE WAS OUT OF STOCK. THE TIRE WAS NOT REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO CALL NHTSA. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE AND TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 148,000. THE DOT NUMBER WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE CONTACT DROVE TO A NEARBY SERVICE STATION TO INFLATE THE TIRE; HOWEVER, THE TIRE WARNING INDICATOR CONTINUED TO READ TWENTY THREE POUNDS. AFTER THE CONTACT REACHED HIS DESTINATION THE TIRE AIR PRESSURE WAS MEASURED BY A TIRE GAUGE WHICH READ FORTY POUNDS. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNAVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A NEARBY AUTO SERVICE STATION WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DETECTED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE ALLOY WHEEL RIM EXHIBITED CORROSION WHICH CAUSED A LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE IN THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE. THE WHEEL RIM WAS CLEANED. THE TIRE WAS RE- MOUNTED AND RE-BALANCED. THE IDENTICAL FAILURE WOULD OCCUR EVERY THREE MONTHS ON A DIFFERENT WHEEL RIM. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE'S CONTINENTAL FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT WHILE TRAVELING 70 MPH. THE TIRE WAS TOO NEW TO HAVE BEEN ROTATED. THE TIRES WERE KEPT AT REGULAR PRESSURE AND THERE WAS NO ABNORMAL BULGING. THE SERVICE DEALER DETERMINED THE TIRE HAD A TEAR IN THE SIDE THAT CAUSED THE BLOWOUT. THIS WAS A CONTINENTAL, SIZE: P235/55R17.

A FEW WEEKS LATER THE CONTACT DISCOVERED BOTH THE RIGHT FRONT AND REAR TIRES WERE FLAT. AIR APPEARED TO BE SEEPING THROUGH SECTIONS OF THE SIDEWALL.
