Data synced from NHTSA on May 4, 2026
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that the transmission was slipping while driving in the lower gears. The contact stated that the message “Reduced Steering - Drive with Caution” was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted, and the vehicle became inoperable. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
Thermostat is faulty at 55k miles. Purchased 2020 Blazer RS, certified used from Chevy in October 2023. Less than 1 yr later, thermostat is stuck on cold, no ax or heat, drivers assist reduced notice. Same issues as previous documented complaints. The frustration is why this known issue is not covered under warranty or recall! I just had my 50k maintenance service done while this issue was occurring- service told me “well we cleared the codes” , 2 days later check engine is on, temp stuck on cold, fan is over worked and no a/c or heat- and driver assist turns off. The safety issues around causing more engine damage by improper cooling and reduction of driving assistance. Additionally, parking issue with vehicle not recognizing it’s in park and having to wiggle or jam the shifter- car drains battery and won’t lock until resolved. Car is took expensive to have a $1200 replacement not covered under warranty!
2020 Chevy Blazer - Shift to Park while Gear is already in Park: While putting the gear in park, the warning chime to shift it into park is initiated. It has happened 3 to 4 times in the past three days. I took the vehicle to the Local Chevy Dealership. The Service Team/Dept. diagnosed that the Transmission Shifter Unit Assembly must be replaced. The 2019 Chevy Blazer had these issues which prompted a TSB/Recall however it wasn't extended to the 2020-year models and Chevy Dealership refused to include it as a warranted repair which just passed 44,000 miles. This is a safety issue, and it should be replaced without additional cost to customer as this issue was already identified as a safety concern in 2019, however Chevy does not want to identify the issue as a covered repair per the manufactures warranty.
After I shift into park and press the button to turn my vehicle off, I receive a message on the dash that states "shift to park" and my vehicle will not turn off. This has happened on several occasions, but does not happen every time I attempt to turn my vehicle off. When I do receive the message, I usually have to restart my vehicle and move the shift out of park and back into park before I can turn the vehicle off. Sometimes, I am able to get the error message to go away by jiggling the shift.
2020 Chevy blazer with 50,000 miles just had to have the thermostat housing replaced. Check engine light would everntually come on. But it would say "Steering assist reduced drive with care" When hooked up to the computer it read code P0128. I have the extended warranty and still had to pay over $600 to have this fixed which is completey ridiculous for how new and expensice this car is.
2020 Chevy Blazer- bad transmission at 130,000 miles
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that upon arriving at his destination, the vehicle failed to detect that the gear shifter was in park(P), preventing the vehicle from being turned off. The contact stated that the message "Please Shift to Park" was displayed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.
When car is put in park and cut off the vehicle doesnt recognize its in park and a light comes on saying “shift to park”. I have to keep pushing gear shift forward repeatedly even though its in park already. The car will not fully turn off till this error message is cleared. Ive had the car checked multiple times and the dealership states there is no code registering for this problem so they cannot fix problem so i cant get it fixed. Ive researched this and it is a known issue for multiple chevy models. Service mgr also stated its s known issue in multiple models.
The original issue was that the temperature gauge was pegged on cold and the A/C was inoperative. The vehicle’s fans would run continuously even when the engine was cold. This created a safety concern since the engine’s actual temperature could not be monitored, and loss of A/C affected drivability in hot conditions. The issue appears related to the engine’s coolant temperature sensor or thermostat system, which causes incorrect signals to the temperature gauge and HVAC system. The condition has been reported by multiple owners of the 2020 Chevy Blazer 3.6L. In my case, the malfunction happened suddenly and has been repeatable. There were no prior warning lamps until the issue occurred, at which point the temperature gauge stopped working properly and the air conditioning failed.
Component/System Involved: The shift-to-park sensor in my 2020 Chevy Blazer is malfunctioning. After shifting into park, the vehicle does not detect it and displays a “Shift to Park” message. The issue is ongoing, and the component is available for inspection if needed. Safety Risk: The vehicle cannot be fully shut off or locked, increasing the risk of battery drain or unintended movement. This poses a safety risk if the vehicle is left in public or on an incline. Inspection History: The vehicle has not been inspected Warning Signs: The “Shift to Park” message appears when trying to turn off the vehicle, despite the gear being in park. This started around Fall 2024 and has occurred regularly since.
My shift to park comes on although the vehicle is parked My steering is reduced came on today this is a problem in mutiple forms in regards to chevy blazers
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked in the driveway, the vehicle hesitated. The contact stated that while attempting to turn off the vehicle, the vehicle independently shifted out of gear. The vehicle was driven to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer determined that the failure was a power train failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified on the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 49,000.
After putting the vehicle into park I received an error message "action required shift vehicle to park". I was then unable to completely shut the vehicle off or lock the doors and the alarm and notice continued to sound. I ended up spending over $1200 in repair costs and car rental to have the vehicle fixed.
Car is cutting off while driving , I’m driving on a busy road , engine jerks and stall out leaving me with no power to accelerate. Brakes work but gas pedal not so much . I have to cut off the car hoping it turns on , cause it don’t want to turn over once I decide to turn it off
When I put the car in park it does not register and will not come out of accessory more. This is a known issue and gm is making customers out of warranty pay for it
The backup camera in my preowned 2020 Chevy Blazer RS stopped operating within 7 months of purchasing Jan 13, 2024. It was replaced by local dealership. However, less than two weeks, it stopped working again. It's a safety feature that's not operational concerned may lead to accident. I did some research online where other owners have experienced the same problem.
The warning on the dash kept going off to shift my car to park. Had to restart my car over 7 times and shift the gear multiple times before I could get the warning to go away so I could lock my vehicle.
6/12/2024 In Damon Parking lot in Rochester MN. Going less than 10 miles an hr- cars in front of me and behind me looking for a parking spot. Stop and go at times. Went to turn corner to go from one level to the next and my BLAZER took off "like a bullet". No control over accelerated speed- hit outer cement wall and slammed into 2 parked empty SUVS. Could not go any farther. The 2 SUVs slammed into cement wall in front of them. Injuries to both my passenger and myself. I have no idea what happened - it was so fast- I do know I had no control over accelerated rate causing accident. My 2020 Chevy Blazer was totaled- It was inspected by American National Insurance CO. Absolutely no warnings. Police report did not include any witness. Blazer is in the hands of the Insurance Co. Chevy Blazer took off like a bullet - could not stop it!!Police report 24026393 Rochester Police Dept Unable to upload . Checked no police report below so I could continue report.
Shift to park issues. Car not reading that it’s in park.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the brake pedal was depressed, but the pedal was firm, and the contact was unable to start the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where an unknown repair was performed. Additionally, the contact stated that upon taking the vehicle for an oil change, the contact was informed that the service could not be performed because the rear main seal was defective. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the rear main seal was in good condition. The dealer informed the contact that the transmission had failed and that there was a hole in the transmission. The dealer repaired the transmission. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V668000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
My park to shift won’t allow car to shut off
Approximately three weeks ago, our 2020 Chevrolet Blazer's check engine light came on. It has a little over 63,000 miles on it. I took it to a private service garage where they diagnosed the code as P0128, or coolant system issue. They concluded that it was the thermostat. I did some checking on the warranty and it turns out that the warranty on this car expired at 61,066 miles. I then took it to Serra Chevrolet in Grand Blanc, MI where they diagnosed the same error code, or P0128. They took the car back to give me a service estimate and when they returned they diagnosed not only the thermostat as defective. This has become a common problem with this car and the 3.6 liter engine in particular. We have been told that this is a "known issue" by two different General Motors dealerships, specifically in their respective service departments. However, the owners are now having to pay for the complete replacement, both parts and labor, for these issues. Given the fact that these are a known issue, it seems to me that these need to be elevated to at least a bulletin, if not a full recall. The repair and replacement for the thermostat and sensor is in excess of $1,000. Again, since this is a known issue, it is my belief that General Motors should pay these expenses.
Message pops up saying steering assist is reduced please drive with care. Then the car fan runs all the time on high and the cars temp gauge is running all the way on cool.
Vehicle keeps throwing “steering assistance reduced please drive with care” message. It causes my car fan to constantly run. It also causes the coolant gauge to not work the needle drops below that cool like it’s not on and then the car won’t blow cold air from the vents. This message tells me that something could be wrong with the steering which puts my safety at risk. This issue has been happening to me on and off for months now and there are multiple complaints of multiple Chevy owners having the same problem this issue needs to be addressed.
On multiple occasions, my 2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS has failed to recognize when it is shifted into the "Park" gear. When this occurs, a "Shift to Park" message appears on the dashboard, and the vehicle's electronics will not shut down, preventing me from turning off and locking the vehicle. This defect presents several critical safety hazards: Inability to Secure Vehicle: The engine/electronics remain active, preventing the vehicle from being turned off and secured. This could drain the battery, leaving me stranded, or make the vehicle a target for theft. Driver Distraction: The warning message has appeared randomly while the vehicle is in motion, creating a serious and unexpected distraction for the driver. Potential Rollaway Risk: This failure in the system that confirms the vehicle is in Park could lead a driver to exit the vehicle believing it is secure when it is not, creating a potential for a vehicle rollaway. On 05/02/2024, I had the vehicle serviced for this specific issue. The dealer replaced the transmission shifter and control assembly at my expense, refusing to cover it under the powertrain warranty. The manufacturer (General Motors) is aware of this widespread defect and has issued Technical Service Bulletins (TSB #MC-10199243-9999) about it, yet they fail to treat it as the serious safety issue it is. This component failure should be investigated for a formal safety recall before it leads to an accident, injury, or death.
Shit to Park issue. Whenever I put my 2020 Chevy Blazer into park I get a "Shift to Park" error and the car will not turn off. I have to jiggle the shifter and hope that the vehicle appropriately engages into a park mode so I am able to turn the vehicle off. From doing a lot of research I have ascertaioned this is a KNOWN PROBLEM to GM. I URGE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL for these GM vehicles so this issue can be fixed.
This vehicle is currently on its third radiator since it was purchased, 4 years ago. That’s almost 1 radiator per year. The vehicle also has transmission issues on the highway. The dealer replaced the torque converter but vehicle is still hesitant and bucking on the highway. This vehicle only has 64,000 KM and would cost thousands in repairs if it wasn’t under warranty.
The "steering assist reduced; drive with care" notification began coming on the dash with significant changes in outdoor temperature, as of last fall 2023. The temperature gauge on the dash would then not work and would remain at cold. Eventually the check engine light will come on however all of this will clear when the outdoor weather is stable again. As I live in MN you can imagine there are many variations to our temperatures. This occurred at the beginning of fall 2023, then winter 2023, then spring 2024. It is clear from consult with mechanics that this is all related to the thermostat being stuck open/closed. This is a very well documented issue for Blazers and I would even refer you to [XXX] which has pages and pages of both concerns related to this issue as well as radiator cracks; which I am dealing with also. This car has less than 60,000 on it! The radiators are also obviously faulty in these Blazers as well given the amount of people needing to replace these before 60,000. Some even reporting replacement under 30,000 miles which is ridiculous for a $52,000 vehicle. I would also direct you to a Facebook group of Blazer owners and the complaints about these two issues are rampant. (2019+ Chevy Blazer Official Group) [XXX] I had an appointment at Rosedale Chevrolet in MN on [XXX] and after diagnostics, and all of the above was confirmed. This issue poses a safety risk given the potential impact to the steering assist, air conditioning in hot temperatures, the car overheating and engine damage which WOULD be covered under the powertrain warranty, as well as the potential of being stranded due to a break down. This issue appears to be primed for a class action lawsuit. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
When I shift the car into park it is not recognizing it. I turn the car off and the info panel says the shift the car into park.
We have a 2020 Blazer that will occasionally show "Shift to Park" error message and won't allow us to turn off the motor. Searching this issue, we see many people have the same problem and GM makes us pay to repair the problem. The dealer said the shift control module had to be replaced. It cost us almost $300.00 to repair. GM Service Bulletin No.: 19-NA-206 has been issued but no recall has been issued by NHTSA. There are also several lawsuits filed but we have been unable to see the results of those lawsuits. Please make GM pay and/or reimburse for these repairs. We live in Wiscons
Intermittent Shift to Park Message Displayed While Vehicle in Park. I am seeing an intermittent Shift to Park message when the vehicle has been shifted into Park, and the ignition has been turned to the Off position. My car model is a push-to-start/stop ignition type and this issue prevents me from turning off the car at times. I am having the vehicle serviced currently at my local chevrolet dealership but being subject to a diagnostic fee of $175. A message shows up on the instrument cluster screen stating "Shift to Park," however, the shifter is already in the Park position. Potential cause: The cause of the condition may be that the park switch in the transmission control (shifter) assembly is not pulling the BCM signal low to electronically show that the vehicle is in the Park position.
AC blowing warm air when all the way on low and on full blast. Brought to repair shop and found that there was no freon, the radiator had a hole and the condensor had a hole. Had to have radiator, condensor and thermostat replaced along with adding freon. The total for this was $2077.02 I should not be having these problem with a 2020 Blazer. I purchased this vehicle on 28 May 2020.
Steering assist reduced warning came on as I was driving. Electric steering module has gone bad.Temp gage and AC stopped working as well. No accident yet but this is a KNOWN SAFETY DEFECT that needs to have a recall. The steering wheel could lock up. Force GM to recall this vechile before people die!!
Transmission issue, computer repair, constant issues.
Got rear ended, the front right passenger seat bent backwards and torqued right.
"Shift to Park" displayed in my DIC when vehicle is in park, parking brake is set and trying to turn off the vehicle. Vehicle would not turn off. Had to wait 5-10 minutes each time this happened before I could safely turn off the vehicle. This happens intermittently and holds me hostage as the vehicle won't shut off and is therefore unsafe to leave.
Continues "reduced steering assistance', thermostat won't register, stay on Cold, a/c blows warm air. We added coolant, replaced battery. Code goes off, within a few weeks comes back on. About to replace the whole thermostat and sensor. Many many blazers having the same issues.
Vehicle is leaking exhaust into cabin. Had it inspected and was informed that my front catalytic converter is cracked. Mechanic informed me this is a common flaw in gm vehicles that happens regularly and that there were already some existing recalls related to this.
My vehicle needs a new purge pump which is part of the emissions system. This is a common problem on this vehicle so it should be covered by GM since it is part of the emissions system.
As I was driving, my engine coolant temperature gauge went from normal level down all the way pegged to C. Message appears on my dashboard "Steering Assist is Reduced. Drive with Care". Also, radiator fan continuously runs as if the air conditioner was turned on, which it was not. After searching the internet and confirmed by dealerships and the shop I had my car repaired, this same issue with the coolant temp sensor and thermostat is a very common occurrence on these generation Chevy Blazers. It just amazes me and disappoints me that this type of failure on a car happens as soon as 70,000 miles. Should last for much much longer before this type of failure happens.
The valve on the thermostat stuck open causing the vehicle to go into a default mode. Ramping the radiator to full high and the thermostat will not come off of C. It has caused an issue with the A/C not blowing cold and also causes a message to pop up upon starting the vehicle stating that steering assistance is reduced, drive with caution. Upon doing research, thousands of people have had this similar issue with different model chevys as well. And the part is on the back side of the engine so injectors and air intakes have to be removed to preform any work to a $100 part.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 MPH when a semi-truck crashed into the rear of the vehicle on the driver's side of the vehicle. The vehicle began to spin, causing it to go into the lane the semi-truck was in, and it was hit on the driver's side of the vehicle several times. The vehicle ended up crashing into the median and coming to a stop. The air bags did not deploy. The contact received neck injuries, spinal injuries, headaches, consistent ringing of the ears, shoulder injuries, and hip injuries. Medical attention was needed. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed and taken to the dealer, who repaired the driver's side doors, tires, rims, and other parts of the body of the vehicle that the contact was unable to identify. The air bag failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
Received Error code P0021 "A" camshaft position timing is over-advanced in Bank 2 of the engine" Occured 3 times before taking it into dealer. Chevrolet dealership agreed and it was covered under powertrain warranty.
This is for all four of the Continental Crosscontact LX Sport tires, size P 235/ 85 R18 with about 22,800 miles on them. These were the original tires that came with our 2020 Chevrolet Blazer. While driving on dry roads the car felt like it was on marbles, wanting to wiggle on the road. We took it to our locale Chevy dealership, they took a short look at the tires, and told us to have them replaced very soon. I started do research on new tires and also found out that Continental had put out a Voluntary tire recall there, this was for 93,959 of their passenger tires. But only certain mold dates and serial numbers were on this list. We had only one of our four tires on their list. All four tires had the same wear pattern, the outside tread of each tire had worn down to approximately 0.150", with the inside of tire tread at approximately 0.205". Probably near normal wear for a 22,800 mile tire. To me the malfunction was with the outside tire breaking down and becoming weak, causing the excessive wear and unstable driving experience, putting the car at risk of accident and all passengers in it. We replaced them with Goodyear Maxlife tires. One of the tires with the serial #[XXX] was on the recall list, Continental paid for it to be returned to them, and verified that it was on recall, they are to pay us for 1/2 of its life. Contacting them again, I told them again that all the tires had the same wear pattern. They then asked for the other 3 remaining tires to inspect. After they inspected the other 3 tires they have denied any other claims of defects on those tires. I do not have any tire to show you now, but Continental's records should show the tire wear as I have stated. Of the 3 tires, 2 of the tires not recalled were A3LM WD30 dated 08-20, serial #[XXX] and [XXX], and the third tire A3LM WD30 dated 12-20 with serial #[XXX]. The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that while refueling the vehicle, the contact removed the pump handle from the filler neck, and one of the fuel flappers detached. The contact was concerned about fuel leaking from the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the filler neck and fuel filler housing needed to be replaced; however, the fuel filler housing was on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 29,800.
The car repeatedly has an error pop up that states steering assist is no longer activated and to drive with caution. The thermostat during this is also fully on cold. The check engine comes on after. The sensor and thermostat are repaired based on the code and problem persists. Same problem all over forums but Chevy refuses to fix as no recall. This is very concerning as the car may randomly go into limp mode while driving on the highway at 70mph putting at risk for crashing. The steering assist is also out putting at further risk. This is despite fixing and clearing the codes shown. This is a known issue that Chevy is refusing to address/recall.
When placed in park the DIC will intermittenly indicate "Shift To Park". At that point, I am not certain whether or not the vehicle is in park. It will often go into accessory mode when this happens. I cannot turn the vehicle completely off at this point. I need to shift it from park to reverse or drive and then back into park. It may take several attempts for it to register that the vehicle is actually in park. The problem is occurring more and more frequently over time. I am about to take it to the dealer for repairs. I believe this is a common problem with many GM vehicles and they ought to fix it under a recall notice.
I was driving on express way 96W Left lane busy 5 o'clock traffic Car just died it was stop n go I could have been killed if it wasn't for a man that stopped behind me he couldn't help another person stopped and push the car in N To a grass area where at least I wouldn't be smashed in Called 911 state police inform help van He didn't look at it my friend was there to pick me up Called tow truck they dropped it off at Chevy dealership in Howell Mi
