POWER STEERING MESSAGE APPEARED WITHIN A FEW DAYS OF HAVING IT SERVICED DUE TO THE POWER STEERING RECALL. POWER STEERING MESSAGE APPEARS ALL THE TIME (ALMOST EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT). SOMETIMES POWER STEERING MESSAGE APPEARS AND CAR STARTS JERKING AND IS HARD TO STEER). WHEN THAT HAPPENS I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT. SOMETIMES THIS WORKS BUT OCCASSIONALLY IT DOESN'T. A COUPLE OF TIMES I HAVE WENT TO BACK OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT AT WORK AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL AT ALL. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS SERVICED AND CHEVY AND BASICALLY WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULDN'T HELP ME UNLESS I TOOK IT TO HAVE THE PROBLEM DIGANOSED AT MY EXPENSE (70- 200 AND SOMETHING DOLLARS), AND "IF" IT IS RELATED TO THE POWER STEERING RECALL THEY MAY HELP ME WITH THE COST OF THE REPAIR. I DON'T THINK I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED WHEN THEIR SOLUTIION TO THEIR RECALL DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. MY KEY HAS GOTTEN STUCK IN THE IGNITION A COUPLE OF TIMES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING FUEL FROM THE FUEL TANK. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THE FAILURE TO BE WITHIN THE FUEL PUMP MODULE. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN RECALL 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: DELIVERY: FUEL PUMP) . THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 83,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 86,000.
I HAD JUST RETURNED HOME FROM SHOPPING IN MY 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. I NOTICED A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE AT THE BACK OF THE CAR. I LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND SAW GASOLINE WAS LEAKING FROM THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK AND COLLECTING ON THE GROUND. AFTER LOWERING THE FUEL TANK IT WAS EASY TO SEE THE PROBLEM. THE FUEL RETURN LINE HAD FRACTURED AT THE TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP MODULE. THE CAR WAS UNDRIVEABLE. FORTUNATELY THIS HAPPENED IN MY DRIVEWAY. I BOUGHT A NEW FUEL PUMP MODULE AT MY CHEVROLET DEALER FOR $304.36 AND REPLACED THE PART MYSELF. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT NOT IN MY STATE. I LIVE IN PENNSYLVANIA WHICH IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I HAVE RETAINED THE OLD PART. *TR
2006 CHEVROLET COBALT FUEL LEAK. PLASTIC PORT ON TOP OF FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY CRACKED. I SEE THERE IS A RECALL IN CERTAIN STATES FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT I LIVE IN VIRGINIA AND THAT STATE IS NOT LISTED IN THE RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 10 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED AN UNUSUAL METAL TO METAL NOISE FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO INDEPENDENT MECHANICS WHERE THEY BOTH WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR LOCATE A FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS POTENTIALLY CAUSED BY THE RACK AND PINION NEEDING REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,432 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,797.
EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH STOPPING DISTANCE AND STEERING IN 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT LT. HAD BRAKES, SHOCKS, AND STRUTS REPLACED...CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE ISSUE WITH STOPPING DISTANCE AND STEERING...TOOK IN TO DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THE CONTROL ARMS WERE "DRY ROTTED'...IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS WAS THE MOST LIKELY CONTRIBUTING ISSUE TO THE PROBLEM WITH BRAKES SHOCKS AND STRUTS. IN ADDITION DUE TO ISSUE WITH THE CONTROL RODS THE U-JOINT IN THE STEERING COLUMN HAS BEEN BENT CAUSING PROBLEMS WITH STEERING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE CONTACT SMELLED A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY DETECTED AN INTERNAL FUEL LEAKAGE AND INFORMED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE DELIVERY: FUEL PUMP); HOWEVER, THE RECALL INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE MUST BE REGISTERED OR SOLD IN ONE OF THE STATES MENTIONED IN THE RECALL DEFECT. THE CONTACTS VEHICLE WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL DUE TO THE STATE EXCLUSION. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THE FAILURE WAS APPROXIMATELY 43,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE THE DEALER WAS REPAIRING NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V073000, STEERING ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM, SHE INFORMED THEM THAT SHE HEARD A NOISE WHENEVER SHE DROVE OVER A BUMP. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS NEEDED CAUSED THE NOISE AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED AND THAT IT WAS A COMMON ISSUE AMONG HER YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 18,807.

THE CONTACT LATER DISCOVERED THAT THE FUEL LINE WAS LEAKING GASOLINE. THE CONTACT LOCATED A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: DELIVERY: FUEL PUMP) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,000.
OIL FILTER GASKET NOT KEEPING A SEAL BETWEEN THE CAP/OIL FILTER HOLDER AND THE FILTER HOUSING UNIT CREATING A GAP THAT OIL LEAKS FROM WHEN THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING. LOSS OF OIL WILL OCCUR AND POSSIBLE ENGINE DAMAGE ALSO. THIS IS A FLAW IN THE DESIGN OF THE OIL FILTER CAP AND GASKET AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED. *TR

TRUNK OF THE VEHICLE HAS COLLECTED WATER. MY SPARE TIRE WAS NOT AVAILABLE WHEN NEEDED DURING THE WINTER BECAUSE IT WAS FROZEN TO THE BOTTOM OF MY TRUNK. THE WATER COLLECTED IS SO EXCESSIVE THAT ENOUGH OF IT WAS ABLE TO COVER MY SPAR TIRE AND FREEZE IT. WATER COMES UP THROUGH BOTH WHEEL WELLS AND DOES NOT DRAIN OUT. *TR

WHEN I AM DRIVING DOWN A ROAD, IT DOESN'T MATTER IF I AM GOING 25 OR 65, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON. ONCE THE LIGHT IS ON, MY CAR WILL SHIFT AND WHEN IT SHIFTS, IT FEELS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING. IT'S VERY SCARY. THE CAR GETS VERY JERKY AND HARD TO DRIVE. IT DOES NOT MAKE A SOUND, LIKE TRACTION CONTROL IS KICKING IN. IT FEELS LIKE MY CAR IS TRYING TO SHIFT BUT CANNOT. I'VE READ THAT THIS CAN TURN INTO MORE SERIOUS POWER STEERING ISSUES. I WENT TO GO GET MY CAR RECALLED FOR POWER STEERING, AND THEY SAID IT'S ONLY FOR 2004 COBALT MODELS. I DON'T FIND THAT FAIR IF SO MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE REST OF THEIR COBALTS. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS WHILE I AM DRIVING ABOUT EVERY TIME I DRIVE. THE LIGHT DOES GO OFF WHEN I TURN MY CAR OFF. *TR
MY DAUGHTER HAS (HAD) A 2006 COBALT. WE WERE CO-OWNERS OF THIS CAR BUT SHE WAS THE PRIMARY DRIVER. WE DID RECEIVE THE RECALL NOTICE AND TOOK IT TO A GM DEALER ON 6/21/10 FOR THE REPAIR. ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 3, 2010, SHE WAS DRIVING HOME ON A TWO LANE COUNTRY ROAD AND WAS LESS THAN 1/4 MILE FROM HOME WHEN SHE WRECKED. THE CAR SUDDENLY PULLED TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND COULDN'T BE STEERED BACK, SHE SIDE SWIPED A TELEPHONE POLE, THE CAR PULLED HARD THE OTHER WAY, SHE FOUGHT FOR CONTROL OF THE CAR BUT LOST. SHE KEPT HITTING THE BRAKES AND THE CAR SPUN AROUND AND WAS STOPPED WHEN IT GOT STUCK ON STEPS AND A RAILING ON A DOWNHILL SLOPE INTO SOMEONE'S YARD. THANKFULLY SHE WAS NOT SERIOUSLY HURT BUT IS SUFFERING FROM BACK AND NECK PAIN AND HAD ABRASIONS AND BRUISES. SHE HAD TO CRAWL OUT A WINDOW BECAUSE NEITHER DOOR WOULD OPEN. WE HAVE PICTURES OF THE CAR AND PARTS THAT WENT EVERYWHERE. CAN YOU HELP US AND DIRECT US WHAT TO DO? *TR
AFTER PARKING VEHICLE I NOTICED A STRONG GASOLINE ODOR EMITTING FROM THE CAR. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO SAID IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP LEAKING AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. COST ME $750.00. I SEE ON THE INTERNET THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. I LIVE IN AND BOUGHT MY CAR NEW IN FLORIDA WHICH IS ONE OF THE STATES THAT IS COVERED UNDER THE RECALL NOTICE # 09V419000. I WAS NEVER ISSUED A NOTICE BY GM ABOUT THIS RECALL . THE ONLY WAY I DID FIND OUT ABOUT IT WAS THAT MY SISTER OWNS A 2007 CHEVY COBALT AND SHE RECEIVED ONE. SHE ALSO LIVES IN AND BOUGHT HER CAR IN FLORIDA. I FEEL THAT GM SHOULD HAVE SENT ME A NOTICE AND ALSO THAT THEY SHOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIRS I HAD TO INCUR ON MY VEHICLE. *TR
MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT HAS BEEN UNDER REPAIR FOR THE FAULTY STEERING SINCE I GOT IT. I HAD IT TAKEN CARE OF UNDER RECALL, THIS WEEKEND THE STEERING TOTALLY LOCKED UP I DID NOT HAVE MANUAL STEERING I HAD NOTHING AND I WAS ON AN S TURN WHEN IT HAPPENED. GM IS RELUCTANT TO FIX IT AGAIN. I HAD THIS FIXED TWICE UNDER THE RECALL AND IT IS GETTING WORSE. *TR
JUST LIKE A SIMILAR RECALL THE PLASTIC SUPPLY OR RETURN PORT ON MY CARS RESERVOIR ASSEMBLY HAS CRACKED. POTENTIALLY LEADING TO A FUEL LEAK THAT COULD CAUSE DECREASED EFFICIENCY AND PERFORMANCE. WORSE, IF THAT LEAKING GASOLINE COMES INTO CONTACT WITH AN IGNITION SOURCE OF ANY KIND, IT WILL IGNITE. *TR

THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE VIOLENTLY WHILE HE WAS SLOWING DOWN AND WOULD "POP" WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO RECALL 10V073000 AT THE DEALERSHIP (STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM) BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT SPOKEN WITH THE MANUFACTURER AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,317. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 48,500.

WHILE THE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT WAS APPROACHING A COMPLETE STOP AND SMELLED A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL EMITTING INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE FUEL PUMP MODULE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: DELIVERY: FUEL PUMP). THE RECALL STATED THAT THE VEHICLE MUST BE EITHER ORIGINALLY SOLD OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED DUE TO THOSE SPECIFICATIONS MENTIONED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR RECALL 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM GASOLINE: DELIVERY: FUEL PUMP) BUT THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR REPAIR. IN AUGUST 2010, THE CONTACT NOTICED A FUEL ODOR AND REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY HIMSELF. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER TO REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT, BUT WAS DENIED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HELD A SALVAGE TITLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,633 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,147. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE FUEL PUMP. UPDATED 03/30/11

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,000.

(DEALERSHIP HAS OLD PARTS) THE PART THAT WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $550.35 WAS THE SAME PART NUMBER IN RECALL OF 2006 CHEVY COBALTS, HOWEVER THIS VIN# WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND WAS SAID TO BE NOT COVERED OR REIMBURSED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, AND BECAUSE IT HAD 101K MILES ON IT. A VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING SITUATION KNOWING THERE WAS HUGE RISK FOR FIRE ON THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING IT. *TR

I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY COBALT THAT IS REGISTERED IN OHIO BUT HAS BEEN IN FLORIDA FOR A YEAR AND A HALF, THERE IS A RECALL ON THE FUEL PUMP BUT GM DOES NOT WANT TO HONOR IT ,GM SAYS THAT THE HEAT IN THE SOUTHERN STATES WILL CAUSE THE FUEL PUMP TO CRACK , SHOULD IT MATTER WHERE IT WAS REGISTERED SINCE IT HAS BEEN HERE THIS LONG. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHERE THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MOTOR WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER ON THREE OCCASIONS WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE FAILURE BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
MY 2006 CHEVY COBALTS STALLS AND SHUTS OFF WHILE ACCELERATING OR WHILE STOPPED AT RED LIGHTS. THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSE DRIVER BEHIND ME TO REAR END MY CAR. THANK GOODNESS, I NOR MY CHILDREN HAVE BEEN INJURED DUE TO THIS MALFUNCTION. I'VE HAD THE CAR SERVED NUMEROUS TIMES TO NO AVAIL. THE REPAIR SHOP SAYS, THEY CANT FIND A PROBLEM. THE CHILD SEATED IN THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT SUSTAINED A BRUISE ON HER FOREHEAD. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE EXITING THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT NOTICED A STRONG GASOLINE ODOR. WHEN HE RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE, THE ODOR HAD BECOME OVERPOWERING.
