THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 44,741.

HE NOTED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF AND IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL IT. HE CALLED BOTH THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER TO INQUIRE ABOUT RECALL 10V073000 AND WAS INFORMED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,121. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 34,050.
POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING WHILE DRIVING CAR
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WENT OUT TODAY ON MY 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. IT WAS WORKING FINE THIS MORNING, AND I GOT OFF OF WORK, WENT TO START MY CAR, ONCE I STARTED MOVING, I NOTICED THAT MY POWER STEERING DIDN'T WORK ANYMORE. DOES GM HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS YET? I AM NOT PAYING MONEY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, IT IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND THEY NEED TO RECALL IT SO I CAN GET IT FIXED.

THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL NUMBER 10V073000 (STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 46,000.

HE NOTICED A CHIMING SOUND ALONG WITH THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT BEFORE THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. HE STATED THAT IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 10V073000 (STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM). HE HAD NOT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,807. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,600.
I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY 06 COBALT BACK IN EARLY 07 IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY AT THE 7 TIMES I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR STEERING CONCERNS. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE HARD STEERING PROBLEM OR PRODUCE COMPUTER PROBLEM. I WAS VERY ADAMANT ABOUT THIS AND ALSO GOT NEW TIRES THINKING THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. IT WAS NOT ! I WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING, AND WAS LEARY TO DRIVE MY CAR (A GIFT FROM MY MOM) BUT HAD NOTHING ELSE TO DRIVE. IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR ON THE 30TH I WAS COMING FROM A FRIENDS HOME AND WAS ON A SIDE ROAD I SLOWED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN AND I COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO GO RIGHT, IT WAS VERY HARD TO TURN, AND I WENT THROUGH THE LIGHT AND HIT A TREE HEAD ON AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I WAS TOLD LATER I MISSED THE SENSOR. THE CAR WAS TOTALED AND G.M. WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS. I WAS TOLD THAT EVEN THOUGH THE CAR SAT FOR 2 MONTHS WITH A DEAD BATTERY THE COMPUTER DOES NOT LOOSE DATA. (G.M.) I KNOW OF SEVERAL COBALT OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THE POWER ASSIST REPLACED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION AND IT STILL WENT OUT. THE MECHANICS (A.S.E.)CERTIFIED INFORMED ME IT IS NOT THE POWER ASSIST IT IS IN THE STEERING COLUMN, AND SHOULD BE REPLACED, BUT G.M. WON'T DO THAT IT WOULD COST TOO MUCH MONEY. IT IS NICE TO KNOW THAT G.M. WOULD RATHER SACRIFICE THE CONSUMER RATHER THAN TAKE CARE OF THEM. I ALSO UNDERSTAND THE COMPUTER HAS A HISTORY OF NOT RECORDING PROPERLY WHEN THERE IS A PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING WHICH MADE IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE SAME FAILURE OCCURRED ABOUT 300 TIMES. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 67,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATE SPEEDS OF 45 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE WARNING PANEL, IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY A LOSS OF POWER STEERING CONTROL. THE CONTACT THEN SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE POWER STEERING HAD RESET ITSELF AND WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,700.
INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). I WAS DRIVING HOME THIS EVENING FROM WORK WHEN I GOT THE "POWER STEERING" WARNING ON MY DASH. SOON AFTER, I NOTICED MY CAR WOULD BUCK AND JERK QUITE VIOLENTLY. IT GOT TO THE POINT THAT I DID NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE SO I PULLED OVER. I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP, GEORGE WEBER, REMEMBERING THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2006 CHEVY COBALTS, TO MY DISMAY, MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS SO CALLED RECALL THAT WAS ANNOUNCED IN MARCH. HOWEVER, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEE, MARSHA, DID ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE SYMPTOMS I HAD EXPERIENCED COINCIDED WITH THE SYMPTOMS OF TWO VEHICLES THAT WERE FIXED AT HER SHOP. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE WAS THOSE TWO VEHICLES WERE UNDER THE RECALL, BUT MY CAR IS NOT. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THIS RECALL EXTEND TO ALL COBALTS THAT STAND A CHANCE OF HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. I WAS VERY SCARED FOR MY SAFETY AND THE OTHER ON THE ROAD AS I FELT I HAD NO CONTROL OVER MY VEHICLE. THE SCARIEST FEELING IS THAT IT CAME OUT OF NO WHERE. [XXX] *TR
MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT WILL SOMETIMES LOOSE POWER WHEN YOU TURN A CORNER OR FROM TAKE OFF. IT WILL HESITATE FOR A FEW SECONDS A THEN START TO TAKE OFF GRADUALLY. THERE HAS BEEN NO ENGINE LIGHT ON BUT ONE TIME. THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON (MAKING A DINGING NOISE) THEN WENT OFF WHEN THE CAR STARTED TO RUN BETTER. SEEMS TO HAVE MORE PROBLEMS DURING THE COLDER WEATHER. I CALLED GM DEALERSHIPS AND THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. IT A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE BEHIND YOU WHEN YOU TAKE OFF AND ALL OF A SUDDEN YOUR CAR STARTS TO ACT LIKE IT HAS NO POWER AND I ALMOST BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND. AMCO TRANSMISSON PLACE TOLD ME IT MIGHT BE SOMETHING WITH THE TRANSMISSION TRYING TO TAKE OFF IN SECOND GEAR. GM DEALERSHIPS SAID THEY DOUBT IT AND WOULD NOT LOOK AT IT. I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD PROBLEMS. GM IN TULSA, CLAREMORE OKLAHOMA SAID THEY NEVER HEARD OF IT BUT I DO NOT BELIVE THEM. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS ALL THE TIME.
MY 2006 CHEVROLET COLBALT'S POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING, CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL
I OWN A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WELL TO BEGIN, I INITIALLY HAD AN ISSUE WITH MY SHIFT COLUMN, WHICH I RESEARCHED AND FOUND OUT IT WAS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. IT WOULD CAUSE MY KEY TO GET STUCK IN THE IGNITION. I TOOK IT TO THE DELEARSHIP AND THEY REPLACE THE WHOLE COLUMN. THEN A A COUPLE OF WEEK LATER, MY VEHICLE WAS ACCELERATING REALLY FUN, I JUST BLEW IT OFF FOR A MOMENT, UNTIL I THEN TRIED TO PUT MY CAR IN REVERSE ONE DAY, AND IT WOULD NOT GO ANYWHERE. I TOOK IT TO THE DELEARSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME MY TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING, AT 86,000 MILES. THE DEALEARSHIP HAS MY CAR, AND IS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT IF IT'S EVEN WORTH FIXING. IM ALSO WONDERING IF THIS PROBLEM COULD HAVE BEEN CAUGHT THE INTIAL TIME THEY FIXED THE VEHICLE, AND FIGURED IT WAS MY SHIFTING COLUMN, BECAUSE EVEN WITH MY TRANSMISSION SLIPPING, IT ALSO AFFECTED THE SHIFTING COLUMN. ONE OTHER PROBLEM I HAVE HAD WITH THE VEHICLE IS THE AIR BAG SENSOR, I HAVE NOT GOT THIS FIXED YET, BECAUSE THE DEALEARSHIP WANTS TO CHARGE $99 JUST TO SEE EXACTLY WHAT'S CAUSING MY AIRBAG SENSOR TO NOT COME ON, WHEN I HAVE PASSENGERS WITH ME.
WE BOUGHT A 2,006 CHEVY COBALT WITH 16.769MILES ON IT. WAS NOT TOLD IT WAS USED AS A LEASE VEHICLE AND WAS NOT TOLD THAT IT WAS BOUGHT AT AN AUCTION.SO YOU CAN SEE WE CERTAINLY ARE NOT VERY HAPPY TO BEGIN WITH. HIDDEN TRUTHS.WE WAS CALLED ON MARCH 26,2010 AT 10;30 TO GO AND PICK UPOUR VEHICLE. "THEY HAD JUST FINISHED PUTTING THE STERRING COLUMN IN-RECALL BUT SAID IT WAS NOT FOR OUR VEHICLE....WE TURNED THE VEHICLE ON AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON UNTIL WE ARRIVED HOME SOME 30 MILES AWAY. WAS TOLD IT WAS IN THE SENSOR AND PERSONS WEIGHT-O.K. THEN JUST LEANING ON IT KEPT IT ON AGAIN. THIS IS DANGEROUS. ANY RECALLS AND HOW CAN THIS BE FIXED?
I BOUGHT A 2006 CHEVY COBALT. AFTER A MONTH THE DOOR LOCKS STARTED TO MALFUNCTION. I HAD THE CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP TWICE TO FIX THE ISSUE. THEN 6 MONTHS AGO I COULD NOT OPEN MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR. I HAVE HAD TO CUT THROUGH THE PANEL AND ALL OF THE RODS ARE IN PLACE. THE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUT. I HAVE TO ENTER THE CAR FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO RIVERTON CHEVY IN SANDY, UT AND I HAVE COMPLAINED TO GM. THEY CLAIM BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE ON THE CAR THEY WILL NOT FIX UNLESS I PAY. THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME 150$ JUST FOR A DIAGNOSITCS. THE DOOR IS STUCK. THEY WERE THE LAST PEOPLE TO HAVE THE PANELS REMOVED. THIS IS HORRIBLE. IF YOU SEARCH THE INTERNET YOU CAN SEE I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS PROBLEM. I NEED HELP. I CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY SOMEONE FOR SOMETHING, I BELIEVE THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR AND WERE THE LAST PEOPLE TO WORK ON MY CAR. *TR
THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT AT RANDOM TIMES. I GET A WARNING SIGNAL ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, AND THE STEER BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT. IF I STOP THE CAR AND SHUT IT OFF, THE STEERING IS RESTORED FOR AWHILE. THIS HAPPENED TO ME ON THE HIGHWAY, AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING.

A CHIME SOUNDED WITH A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF, RESTARTED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. BOTH FAILURES OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY FOR ONE TO THREE WEEKS. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V073000 (STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM); HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,000. UPDATED 05/12/10 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER HAS SINCE REPAIRED THE VEHICLE, EVEN THOUGH HER VIN WAS NOT ON THE LIST. I WAS DRIVING TO A DIFFERENT STATE, AND ABOUT 3 HOURS INTO THE DRIVE, I STOPPED FOR GAS. AFTER SHUTTING THE CAR OFF, I WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. I WAS ABLE TO RELEASE THE KEY BY REACHING UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN AND PRESSING THE MANUAL RELEASE BUTTON. EVEN AFTER HAVING RECALL WORK ON ANOTHER ITEM AT A GM DEALER, THEY DIDN'T OFFER ANY SORT OF SOLUTION ON HOW TO GET THIS FIXED. I STILL HAVE TO PRESS THE MANUAL RELEASE TO GET THE KEY OUT. CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE THROUGH EMAIL AND THEY OFFERED NO REMEDY AND CLAIMED NO RESPONSIBILITY. *TR

THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILURE WAS ELECTRICAL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH. LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE. HIT DITCH, WENT UP EMBANKMENT, AIRBORN, LANDING AND BREAKING POWER POLE GUDE WIRE, CONTINUING 300 FT, FRONTAL IMPACT INTO TREE. VEHICLE TOTALED. FRONT REAR, UNDER CARRIAGE AND REAR DAMAGE. AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, SEATBELT DID NOT LOCK. CONTACTED
I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY COBALT LTZ. ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO, I WAS DRIVING AND "POWER STEERING" APPEARED ON MY DASHBOARD ALONG WITH A CHIME NOISE AND A FEW OTHER WARNING SIGNS. I TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. JUST THIS PAST TUESDAY 3/16/10 IT DID THE SAME THING SO I PULLED OVER, TURNED IT OFF AND LET IT SIT. AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR I DROVE HOME AND IT WAS FINE. THEN TODAY 3/20/10 IT HAPPENED AGAIN AS I WAS DRIVING SO I PULLED OVER AND TURNED IT OFF FOR 10 MINUTES, STARTED AGAIN, AND THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE STILL THERE. I TURNED IT OFF AND ON A FEW MORE TIMES BUT THE PROBLEM WAS STILL PRESENT. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE THEN, AND THE WHOLE TIME THE POWER STEERING WARNING CAME ON AND OFF ALONG WITH THE CHIME. THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ENGINE LIGHTS STAYED ON ALSO. A FEW HOURS LATER, I STARTED MY CAR AND THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON THE WHOLE TIME UNTIL I GOT TO MY HOUSE. *TR
YESTERDAY 03/20/10 ON SATURDAY NIGHT AT 11:30PM TO 11:40 PM MY VEHICLE COBALT AT CLOSE TO 40 KM/HR SPEED STOP WORKING. LIKE IGNITION OFF. ALL GAUGES GOES TO OFF CONDITION LIKE VEHICLE IS MOVING WITHOUT ENGINE RUNNING.OUTSIDE TEMP.-1DEGREE C. I PLACED EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON AND PUT IN PARKING MODE THEN I RESTART MY CAR AGAIN AND IT STARTS. THIS IS HAPPENED SECOND TIME. I TOOK TO DEALER LAST MONTH BUT THERE WAS NO CODE. I COMPLAINED TO GM EARLIER ALSO. THEY TOLD ME TAKE TO DEALER WHEN IT HAPPEN AND IN RUNNING CONDITION. BUT ON SATURDAY AT 11:30 PM ON NIGHT WHICH DEALER SERVICE STATION IS OPEN? I HAVE 4 TIMES EARLIER SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEM IN THE SAME VEHICLE ALSO. AFTER THIS AN ELECTRIC STORM, THE ALTERNATOR HAS DAMAGED THEVOLTAGE REGULATOR ECM(ELECTRONIC MODULE ENGINE CONTROL),THROTTLE BODY , ++++ NO HAVE A IDLE BUT ENGINE HUNTING ALARM MALFUNCTIONING, POWER DOOR LOCK, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION INTERLOCK DON'T CARE IF @ 70 MI/HR SELECT TO REV. I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY COBALT, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON IN THE CAR AND THE CAR WILL JUST STOP OR SOMETIMES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DOESN'T COME ON AND THE CAR WILL STOP. I WAS CROSSING A BUSY INTERSECTION AND THE CAR JUST STOPPED, I TRIED TO START IT BACK UP BUT IT JUST STALLED. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WERE YOU COULD BE DRIVING AND THE CAR WILL JUST STOP. COBALT TAKEN BACK TO DEALER FOR FUEL SMELL, DEALER PRESSURIZED GAS TANK AND FOUND FITTING ON TOP OF TANK SPRAYING FUEL. FIRE HAZARD. REPLACEMENT FUEL TANK FOR THIS COBALT IS BACKORDERED IT COULD TAKE WEEKS OR MONTHS TO GET ONE. I BELIEVE THE FUEL PUMP IS NOT THE PROBLEM, IT IS THE TANK. HYDRAULIC CYLINDER WENT OUT ON AN 06 CHEVY COBALT WITH 42,000 MILES ON IT. WAS DRIVING IT LESS THAN 15 MPH IN A RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX ON LEVEL GROUND WHEN THE CLUTCH WENT LOOSE. COULD NOT SHIFT AND HAD TO ROLL IT INTO PARK. BOTH HYDRAULIC CYLINDERS WERE REPLACED (SPENT $1400 SO I'M ASSUMING THEY WERE NEW PARTS) AND NOW THE CLUTCH STICKS AND THE CAR IS OVERHEATING. STILL WAITING AS TO WHAT IS TO BE DONE WITH THE NEW PROBLEMS. *TR

UPDATED 04/20/10. *LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE STEERING DID NOT CHANGE DURING THE INCIDENT AND THERE WAS NO NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE IN THE WAY THE VEHICLE PERFORMED. ON MARCH 21ST, THE WARNING CHIMED SOUNDED, THE POWER STEERING DISPLAY LIT UP AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACT ERRATIC, BUT THE STEERING REMAINED NORMAL AS THE VEHICLE JERKED VIOLENTLY SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND A CAUSE, BUT DID RESET THE COMPUTER AND ERASED SOME CODES. DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL ROAD IN A 35 - 25 MPH ZONE. PROCEEDED TO BRAKE INTO A TURN TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 15-20MPH AND CAME UPON A STOPPED TRUCK IN MY LANE. THE DRIVER OF THE TRUCK WAS LOADING A LADDER INTO HIS VEHICLE. I APPLIED MY BRAKE AND PROCEED TO ENTER THE OTHER LANE TO AVOID THE TRUCK. AS A ENTERED THE OTHER LANE MY POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD DIFFICULTY CONTROLLING THE CAR AND KEEPING IT IN THE OPPOSITE LANE OF TRAFFIC GOING STRAIGHT. AT THIS POINT I AM GOING ABOUT 3-5 MPH AND I AM TRYING TO FORCE THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT. I WAS UNABLE TO KEEP THE CAR IN THE OPPOSITE LANE OF TRAFFIC AND I PROCEEDED TO HIT THE EMBANKMENT ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE ROAD TRAVELING AT A VERY LOW SPEED. FELT LIKE A SLOW MOTION CRASH. MY VEHICLE STRUCK THE EMBANKMENT ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE TO THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE IMPACT WAS SUCH THAT MY RADIATOR TO THE CAR WAS BENT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER MY VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE POWER STEERING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. I WAS ABLE TO REVERSE THE VEHICLE AND DRIVE IT TO A SAFE LOCATION ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALL POLICE. I HAVE NOT SEEN EITHER OF THESE LIGHTS SINCE THE ACCIDENT AND MY CAR WAS FIXED. *TR

I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREE WAY AND THERE WAS TRAFFIC AND AS I WAS GETTING READY TO SLOW DOWN MY WHEEL LOCKED ON ME ALMOST PUTTING ME INTO THE WALL ON THE FREE WAY. I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT AND SCARED FOR MY LIFE. I TOOK IT TO A AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR GARAGE AND HAD THE LOOK AT THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD BY THE GARAGE THAT THE RACK & PINION STEERING ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A LOT OF PLAY IN THE STEERING ASSEMBLY. THE GARAGE HAD ME SPEAK TO THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INFORMED ME THAT THERE HAS BEEN MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH THE COBALTS STEERING AND THERE IS 1.3 MILLION CHEVY & PONTIAC CARS THAT HAVE A STEERING ISSUES BUT THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME BUT BUY A NEW ASSEMBLY AT $367.00 PLUS LABOR TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. GM MIGHT RECALL THE PROBLEM. THE STEERING HAS LOCKED UP ON ME TODAY AFTER THE GM DEALER SAID IT WAS OK TO DRIVE. THANK GOD I WAS NO GOING AT A LOW SPEED. I HOPE THAT NOBODY GETS KILLED.
