I HAD THE IGNITION SWITCH CHANGED 3 YEARS AGO AND IT IS NOW MESSED UP. MY CAR WON'T START AND I NEED A NEW IGNITION SWITCH
WAS GOING TO WORK AND AS I WAS BACKING UP FROM MY DRIVE, I HAD NO ABILITY TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL AND MY NOTIFICATION ON DASH WENT OFF, I CAN NOT TURN MY WHEEL TO DRIVE AND TODAY I LOST A DAY OF WORK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED FOR THE EPS. ALSO, THE POWER STEERING FAILED TO FUNCTION AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OR A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM A RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. SMITHS CHEVROLET IN HAMMOND, INDIANA DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TAKATA RECALL. I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY COBALT 2.2. THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT IS ON AND THE POWER STEERING IS ON THE DASH. WHEN DRIVING IT HAS A HARD SHIFT TO IT AND POWER STEERING AT ALL. IT ALL START WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COME ON. I CANT NOT GET IT OFF.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING AND HOSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

GAS LEAK
TAKATA RECALL: I RECENTLY PURCHASED A VEHICLE FROM SOMEONE (PRIVATE OWNER) AND AS THE TAGS WILL SOON EXPIRE SO I DECIDE TO GET WHAT NEEDS MAINTENANCE DONE TO TURN THAT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OFF. I GOT A FREE ESTIMATE FROM O' REILLY'S AND TOLD ME TO GO TO CHEVY AND GET THE MAINTENANCE DONE TO MY SAFETY RECALLS. NEXT MORNING I DRIVE OVER TO CHEVY'S DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS DENIED ANY RECALL BEING DONE BY AN EMPLOYEE NAMED SEAN POPPLEWELL. I TOLD HIM TO PRINT ME OUT A PAPER OF WHAT HAD BEEN DONE, NEEDING TO BE DONE AND ALSO TOOK IT UP WITH THE MANAGER. THE SERVICE MANAGER CONFIRMS I CANNOT BE DENIED FOR A MAINTENANCE BUT SEES THAT THE ONLY MAINTENANCE OPEN ONLINE IS A SERVICE UPDATE AND THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO SALVAGED OR NOT. AS I RECENTLY PURCHASED THE VEHICLE I AM BEING DENIED MY RIGHT TO A SAFETY RECALL, NOT ONLY BEING DENIED WHILE DRIVING MY 1 AND A HALF YEAR OLD SON, IN A VEHICLE WHO'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON DUE TO THE SAFETY RECALLS THAT I AM BEING DENIED TO. I AM WITHIN MY RIGHT TO 10 YEARS AFTER THE RECALL IS DISTRIBUTED TO GET THE RECALL DONE WITHIN THAT TIME, THEY ARE NOT ALLOWING ME TOO. THE CAR IS 100% DRIVEABLE BUT I NEED TO GET THIS TAKEN CARE OF SO I AM NOT DENIED IN MY SMOG TEST. I WAS ALSO NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND THE LAW STATES THAT I AM NOT HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR A PREVIOUS OWNERS LACK OF RESPONSIBILITY, I WAS NOT AWARE, I'VE NEVER HAD RECEIVED PROPER NOTIFICATION I SHOULD NOT BE DENIED SERVICE. IT'S SAD TO KNOW THEY HAVE DENIED ME THESE RIGHTS IN FRONT OF MYSELF AND MY 1 AND A HALF YEAR OLD WHO IS IN THE CAR 24.7.
STARTED CAR EARLY IN THE MORNING 25 DEGREES OUT. NOTICE THAT SAYS "POWER STEERING " CAME ON ON THE DISPLAY. PULLED OUT OF DRIVEWAY, DIDN'T NOTICE ANY TROUBLE UNTIL I TRIED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL (NO POWER STEERING) . IT STAYED ON FOR ABOUT A HALF MILE ON NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS. THEN DISPLAY WAS GONE AND CAR DROVE FINE. I DROVE FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF, ON HIGHWAY ,AND PARKED FOR 6 HOURS. AGAIN, STARTED THE CAR AND "POWER STEERING " DISPLAYED AGAIN. NO POWER STEERING AGAIN. I WAS PARKED IN A PARKING STRUCTURE AND AFTER A COUPLE OF CORNERS THE DISPLAY WAS GONE. DROVE HOME ON FREEWAY, EVERYTHING WAS FINE. STOPPED A COUPLE OF TIMES WITH NO PROBLEM. PARKED. A COUPLE HOURS LATER HUSBAND DROVE TO THE GAS STATION THE ON NEIGHBORHOOD STREET. " POWER STEERING " DISPLAYED AGAIN, IT DID NOT SHOT OFF. GAS STATION WAS ONLY MILE ROUND TRIP. CAR STAYED PARKED FROM 5PM 12/10 TILL 12PM 12/11. NO POWER STEERING AGAIN FOR ABOUT 6 BLOCKS ON NEIGHBORHOOD ST.. WENT INTO STORE, LEFT NO POWER STEERING AGAIN. POWER STEERING CAME BACK JUST AFTER A BLOCK. NEIGHBORHOOD STREET.
POWER STEERING FAILURE AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON DASHBOARD. CAR IS DRIVABLE BUT POWER STEERING FAILS OFTEN AT TIMES WHEN DRIVING. WAS ALMOST IN BAD CAR ACCIDENT IF I HAD NOT PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY.
FUEL LINE RUSTED OUT ON DRIVERS SIDE BECAUSE OF HEAT WRAP
THE VEHICLE CAN MESS UP FROM EITHER DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY OR TRYING TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE ON CITY STREET OR HIGHWAY THAT THE ENGINE STALLS AND SAYS "ENGINE POWER REDUCED" THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALONG WITH THE T/C LIGHT COMES ON. IT HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES IN JUST 30 MINUTES OF DRIVING, MORE FOR LONGER TRIPS. IT WILL EVEN DO IT IN 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING. YOU HAVE TO PULL OVER AND TURN VEHICLE OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN IT DRIVES FINE FOR MAYBE A MILE DOWN THE ROAD BEFORE IT DOES IT AGAIN, OR, YOU CAN CONTINUE DRIVING IT WITH THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BOARD TRYING TO GET SPEED WHICH IF YOU DO THE CAR SHIFTS GEAR VERY BADLY AND RIDES ROUGH BUT WHEN YOU'RE TRYING TO GET TO WORK ON TIME YOU DO WHAT YOU HAVE TOO. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC 3 TIMES OVER THIS. THROTTLE BODY WAS CHANGED (TWICE), THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER AND CLEANED THE WIRES. ONE MECHANIC WAS THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THEY NEEDED IT THERE WHEN IT HAPPENED TO BETTER DIAGNOSE THE SITUATION. I DO NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO LET THEM JUST KEEP MY VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR. I BOUGHT IT USED. I HAVE A LOAN ON THE VEHICLE AND I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THIS ANY FURTHER THAN I HAVE TO BECAUSE I KNOW THE VEHICLE WILL MESS UP. I HAVE TWO CHILDREN THAT I HAVE TO PUT IN THIS VEHICLE TO TAKE PLACES. THIS VEHICLE IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WANT HELP WITH THIS SITUATION!! THIS FIRST HAPPENED IN NOVEMBER OF 2016. I DO NOT KNOW THE DAY SPECIFICALLY. I DO REMEMBER IT DID NOT FALL UNDER THE DEALERSHIPS WARRANTY THAT I GOT IT FROM.
FAILURE TO COMMUNICATE WITH TCM/ECM/PCM. THIS PROBLEM HAS CAUSED SEVERAL OCCURANCES WHERE DRIVING THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN HAZARDOUS. BECAUSE OF EITHER THE WIRING OR THE TCM ITSELF, I, THE CONSUMER, HAVE NEARLY BEEN IN 2 ACCIDENTS. AT FIRST I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE POWER STEERING ASSIST MODULE. REPLACED THAT AND PROBLEM STILL OCCURRED. WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS, THE GAUGES JUMP UP AND DOWN AND COMPLETELY STOP WORKING (SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER), TRANSMISSION SHIFTS EXTREMELY HARD WHEN ACCELERATING, POWER STEERING ILLUMINATES IN THE DATA INFORMATION BOX WHICH IN TURN CAUSES LOSS OF POWER STEERING (REPLACED POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR, ISSUE STILL HAPPENS, 1 OCCURANCE OF LOOSING POWER STEERING AND BEING ABLE TO STOP BEFORE GOING OFF THE SIDE A MOUNTAIN WHEN TRYING TO MANEUVER A RIGHT HAND TURN), CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATES, WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO REVERSE, REVERSE TO NEUTRAL, NEUTRAL TO DRIVE, THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGES VERY HARD AND RESULTS IN AN AUDIBLE "CLUNK". 1 OCCURANCE OF VEHICLE SWITCHING GEARS INTO NEUTRAL FROM DRIVE, WHILE DRIVING (SHIFT LEVER STILL IN DRIVE POSITION),PASSLOCK LIGHT ALSO ILLUMINATES IN DASH. VEHICLE CONSISTENLY ACTS AS IT IS GOING TO STALL (HEADLIGHTS AND DASH LIGHTS DIM). CHECKED ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY, BOTH IN OPTIMAL WORKING CONDITION. PRESENTING DIAGNOSTIC CODE INCLUDE P0700 AND U0100. VEHICLE MAINTANENCE HAS BEEN PERFORMED AT 3,000 MILE INTERVALS BUT HAS BEEN PULLED OFF THE ROAD DUE TO THE 2 OCCURANCES OF NEAR ACCIDENTS. VEHICLE HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING ISSUES FOR SEVERAL MONTHS PRIOR TO REMOVING IT FROM OPPERATION. I KNOW FOR A FACT, THIS COBALT IS NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THIS ISSUE.
A FEW YEARS AGO I HAD MY CAR SENT IN FOR THE RECALL THAT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SHUT OFF. NOW I AM HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AGAIN! WHEN I COME TO A STOP OR SLOW DOWN AT AN INTERSECTION THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF AND LOSE ALL POWER! I HAVE DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH AND THIS IS STILL HAPPENING FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE. MECHANICS CANNOT GIVE A FOR SURE ANSWER AS TO WHAT COULD POSSIBLY BE CAUSING THIS ISSUE.
MY RACK AND PINION WHICH IS PART OF THE POWER STEERING HAS SEPARATED AND I AM HAVING TROUBLE STEERING. I HAD MY CAR DIAGNOSED RECENTLY AND THEY MECHANICS AT MIDAS GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE SAYING I NEED TO HAVE MY RACK AND PINION REPLACED. MY RACK AND PINION IS CLANGING TOGETHER WHERE IT SEPARATED WHEN I DRIVE. THE MECHANICS TOLD ME MY STEERING COULD GO OUT AT ANY TIME

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING LOCKS UP
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS LOW SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 175,944.
MY 2006 COBALT KEEPS SMELLING LIKE GASOLINE FUEL. I CHECKED THE BOTOM AND IT IS LEAKING FUEL NOT SURE IF ITS FROM FUEL LINES ON GAS TANK.
CAR IS LEAKING GAS BADLY FROM TOP OF GAS TANK.

THE CONTACT CALLED A LOCAL DEALER (MULTI CHEVROLET, 2675 US HIGHWAY 22 W UNION, NJ 07083) AND WAS INFORMED TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER, BUT THE CALL DROPPED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
THERE WAS A REGIONAL RECALL DONE ON THE FUEL PUMP MODULE ON MANY DIFFERENT GM VEHICLES. DUE TO A CRACK IN THE PLASTIC AROUND THE MODULAR CAUSED BY EXTREME HEAT EXPOSURE. WHEN THE ISSUE OCCURS, IT LEAKS GAS AND FUMES, ALSO THERE IS A VERY PROMINENT GAS SMELL SURROUNDING THE ENTIRE VEHICLE HOURS AFTER BEING PARKED. I LIVE IN KENTUCKY, MY VIN IS BETWEEN THE VIN BREAKPOINTS ON THE RECALL BUT DUE TO MY REGION, I'M NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. GM TO SAVE MONEY HAS MADE A SPECIAL POLICY CONCERNING THIS ISSUE TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND PAY FULLY BUT BECAUSE IT IS NOT A "SAFETY CONCERN" WHICH WAS SAID TO ME BY CHEVROLET CUSTOMER REPRESENTATIVE PAUL, IT WASN'T A DIRE ISSUE. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN DIRECTLY STATED BY NHTSA, AND THE PART IN GENERAL SHOULD BE RECALLED COMPLETELY NOT JUST REGIONALLY. I AM NOW, DUE TO IT BEING MY ONLY TRANSPORTATION, UNTIL I CAN AFFORD A RENTAL, DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT IS LEAKING GAS AND FUMES DUE TO A FAULTY FACTORY PART PUT ON MY VEHICLE BY GM. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE ADDRESSED. CONSUMERS ARE IN DANGER AND DUE TO NOT BEING IN A CERTAIN "REGION" WE ARE RISKY OUR SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHERS BECAUSE WE CAN NOT GET A FAIR RECALL DONE.

THE CONTACT CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER (MUNDAY CHEVROLET, 17800 NORTH FWY HOUSTON, TX 77090) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,744.
POWER STEERING CONTRIBUTED TO A SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK THAT CALL CAUSE DRIVER TO SLIDE INTO A DITCH. ALSO ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS CAUSE THE WIPERS NOT TO WORK IN MISTY RAINY CONDITIONS. HOOD LATCH WILL NOT COME UP WITH OUT USING EXTRA FORCE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH IN THE RAIN, ANOTHER VEHICLE MADE AN ILLEGAL TURN. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE OTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED FACE, HEAD, MOUTH, CHEST, BACK, NECK, AND RIGHT SHOULDER INJURIES AS WELL AS BRUISES FROM THE SEAT BELT. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED NECK, BACK, HEAD, AND LEG INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOWING LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER WERE CONTACTED AND MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000....UPDATED 11/15/17 *BF UPDATED 11/28/2017*JS
MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT SS SMELLS OF GAS BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE WITH MY MAKE/MODEL/YEAR OF CAR AND FOUND THAT OTHER STATES (NOT MINE), HAD A RECALL INVOLVING THE FUEL PUMP ON THIS CAR. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY OTHER STATES DIDN'T RECALL THIS ISSUE WHEN MANY OTHER STATES HAVE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE? I LIVE IN MICHIGAN AND MANY OTHERS HAVE POSTED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR CAR YET NONE OF US ARE IN THE 2 STATES WITH THE RECALL. ALL STATES SHOULD BE INCLUDED AS THIS CAN CAUSE A FIRE! I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS TO BE FIXED WHEN IT IS OBVIOULSY A SERIOUS PROBLEM!

THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 169,000.

AFTER SMELLING GAS I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. AFTER SMELLING GAS REAL BAD YEARS LATER I BROUGHT IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING. THIS WAS A COVERED EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM CHEVY. THE DEALER I WENT TO ALSO TOLD ME IT IS DEFINITELY A FREE REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY. I CALLED CHEVY AND THEY WERE VERY RUDE AND TOLD ME IT IS NOT COVERED. I WOULD HAVE BROUGHT IT TO A DEALER FOR REPAIR IF THEY SENT ME A NOTICE. THE DEALER PRINTED A PAPER SHOWING ME IT WAS COVERED WITH NO LIMIT IN MILES OR YEARS. PLEASE HELP.
SIGNAL SHOWING AIRBAG NEEDS SERVICING GOES ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. HEADLIGHTS, LOW BEAM (BOTH OF THEM) JUST STOPPED WORKING. NEW BULBS AND NEW FUSES ARE NOT THE PROBLEM. NOW, I CAN'T EVEN KEEP MY HIGH BEAMS IN "ON" POSITION. ONLY IF I HOLD THE SWITCH. I'VE HAD THIS CAR FOR UNDER 3 MONTHS. DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LOCK SOMETIMES WORKS, SOMETIMES DOESN'T. I HAVE TO UNLOCK THE DOOR MANUALLY (SOMETIMES). I FIND THAT ODD. MY LARGEST PROBLEM IS OBVIOUSLY HEADLIGHTS. I HAVE 2 CHILDREN AND CAN'T DRIVE AT NIGHT, EVEN IN AN EMERGENCY.

IT TOOK ABOUT 30MINUTES BEFORE THE LOCKS OPENED UP AND THAT WAS ONLY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE DRIVER SIDE NEVER OPENED. MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED/STATIONERY.
POWER STEERING SHUTS OFF AT INTERMITTENT TIMES. THE RPMS GO UP AND DOWN AND CAR SPUTTERS WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THIS HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING AND WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STANDING STILL. IT ALSO ALMOST DIES AT STOP LIGHTS AND STOP SIGNS. THIS HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY AND ON CITY STREETS.
