THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE, NO PREVIOUS ISSUE UNTIL THE POWER STEERING FAILED CAUSING MY DAUGHTER TO FLY OFF THE ROAD AND CRASH. I HAD THE CAR REPAIRED, NEW AXLE, TIE ROD ENDS, WHEEL SPINDLE, ETC BUT NOT THE POWER STEERING UNIT. THE CARS POWER STEERING UNIT HAS FAILED 4 MORE TIMES SINCE REPAIRING THE FRONT END PARTS. AS I STATED I DIDN'T KNOW THERE WERE ISSUES WITH THE POWER STEERING OR I WOULD HAVE HAD THAT FIXED ALSO. *TR
I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS FROM BEGINNING. WE NEVER RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE. NOT TWO MONTHS AFTER HAVING PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE THE POWER STEERING STARTED TO FAIL (OUR SON WAS A LITTLE OVER 2-1/2 YEARS OLD. I HAD TO PULL OVER AS FAST AS I COULD TO KEEP US FROM CRASHING. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE BY NOTICE ONLY BY THE FAILURE OF THIS VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT IN AND SERVICED. HENCE BULLETIN #10023 (POWER STEERING MOTOR) PERFORMED ON 5/25/2010. PROBLEM 2 I HAVE HAD WITH THIS VEHICLE: THE MECHANIC TOLD ME WHERE I GET MY OIL CHANGED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON COBALT FOR THAT PROBLEM, SO I RESEARCHED IT ONLY TO BE TOLD THERE WAS "NO RECALL" SO TO SPEAK ON MY VIN#- -MY MOTHER WAS TOLD THERE WAS AGAIN NO RECALL THAT MATCHED MY VIN NUMBER THE CHEVY COBALT HAD TO HAVE THE FUEL PUMP REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS LEAKING GAS. ADDITIONALLY, THE FUEL INJECTOR WAS REPLACED AS WELL BECAUSE IT'S ALSO PART OF THAT RECALL AND THE ONE THAT WAS ON THE CAR WAS CRACKED AND LEAKING. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED MORE THAN A FIRE--IT COULD HAVE BLOWN UP WHILE I WAS DRIVING. YET AGAIN THE LIAISON PROVIDED ME WITH THIS: #12191 (FUEL TANK MODULE) PERFORMED ON 10/10/2012. ON TO THE THIRD RECALL- LOW THE CURRENT RECALL, 13454, IS NOW SHOWING FOR YOUR VIN AND WE ARE SENDING OUT NOTICES THIS WEEK WITH MORE SPECIFIC INFORMATION. THE DOOR HANDLE ON THE DRIVER SIDE HAS ALL BUT FALLEN OFF, OUT OF WARRANTY AGAIN THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO RECALLS, SO AROUND TURNS AND CORNERS MY CAR GETS LOUD. DON'T EVEN LET ME GET STARTED THE UPHOLSTERY IN THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE WATER ALONE STAINS IT. ALONG WITH THE STRUTS MAKING NOISES WHEN THE CAR TURNS, THE A/C ISSUE HAVING THAT REPLACED, THE BREAKS, THE ROTORS TURNED WHEN DOES IT STOP. I ALSO FOUND THAT IT WAS VERY POSSIBLE THE AIRBAG SITUATION WAS DUE TO THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS AS WELL (HENCE THE FAULTY IGNITION KILL SWITCH). *TR
CONSTANT CONTROL ARM BUSHING REPLACEMENTS IN FRONT END; CONSTANT SWAYBAR ARM LINKAGE REPLACEMENTS - AVERAGES ABOUT EVERY 6 MONTHS. *TR
THE LEFT FRONT SPEAKER STARTED GOING OUT (COULDN'T HEAR WORDS OR MUSIC WELL). SOON AFTER IT COMPLETELY QUIT WORKING AND WHEN IT QUIT SO DID THE RIGHT SIDE. IT'S ONLY THE DOOR SPEAKERS. THE BACK ONES WORK FINE. *TR
INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) LOSS OF WARNING CHIMES DUE TO DEFECTIVE DRIVERS DOOR SPEAKER (2007 COBALT AND & 2007 GMC CANYON). I AM CURRENT AWAITING REPAIR UNDER THE 2ND RECALL FOR OUR COBALT VIN [XXX](GAS LEAK & LOSS OF STEERING DEFECTS NOT YET REPAIRED). THE LETTER RECEIVED FROM GM WARNING OF THE STEERING DEFECT STATED A WARNING CHIME WOULD SOUND AND A MESSAGE ON THE DRIVERS INFO CNTR WOULD APPEAR. PROBLEM IS, THE SPEAKER WHERE THE WARNING SOUNDS COME FROM IS INTERMITTENT. IN FACT, I CANNOT TELL IF I HAVE THE BLINKERS ON WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE DASHBOARD; SOMETHING THAT'S NOT ALWAYS SAFE TO DO. EVEN THOUGH THIS STARTED SHORTLY AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED; I ASKED THE DEALER TO REPAIR IT BECAUSE I CONSIDERED IT UNSAFE. IF A CAR MANUFACTURER IS GOING TO CHANGE THE ROLE OF A SPEAKER FROM MERELY PRODUCING SOUND FOR RADIO USE TO SOUNDING SAFETY WARNING CHIMES THEN THE SPEAKER OUGHT TO HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. I AM APPROACHING MY MIDDLE 50'S AND DO NOT ABUSE THE SOUND SYSTEM IN THE CAR. IN MY OPINION; THIS FAILING SPEAKER IS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE. IN FACT, OUR 2007 GMC CANYON IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. I'VE RECENTLY NOTICED THE DRIVERS DOOR SPEAKER IS STARTING TO DISTORT AND REALIZED AFTER THE COBALTS SPEAKER FAILED THE CANYON DRIVERS DOOR SPEAKER ALSO EMITS WARNING CHIMES. AS I STATED ABOVE, IF THE ROLE OF A SPEAKER IS TO SOUND WARNING CHIMES, THEN IT BECOMES A POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUE WHEN IT FAILS. [XXX] *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MERGE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. WHEN SHE LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD THERE WERE NO VISIBLE DEFECTS AND SHE WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING NORMALLY. AFTER DRIVING THREE MILES, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. SHE CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A FEE IN ORDER TO PERFORM A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE CONTACT REFERENCED RECALL 10V073000 (10V073000 STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM) SINCE IT WAS RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 67,000.
INCIDENT REPORT: DRIVING 70 MILES ON THE INTERSTATE AND FELT A SUDDEN RESISTANCE IN STEERING, THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE CAME ON THE DASH AND WHEN I ACCELERATED OR PUSHED ON THE BRAKE IT BECAME HARD TO STEER. PULLED INTO THE FIRST EXIT AND AFTER USING ALL MY STRENGTH PARKED AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. WHEN I GOT BACK IN THE LIGHT WAS OFF AND THE STEERING WAS BACK TO NORMAL. WE ALL KNOW THAT UNLESS THE MESSAGE IS ON THEY WON'T READ FOR THE ERROR IN THE DIAGNOSTIC SO I CAME ON HOME. I DID CALL THE DEALER AND HE LOOKED UP AND SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR MY COBALT. SO WHO DECIDES WHICH ONES TO RECALL WHEN THE PROBLEM HAPPENS AND I AM AWAY FROM HOME WHERE DO I TAKE IT. WHO WILL PAY FOR TOWING? MAKES ME WANT TO GO BUY A FORD AND I HAVE NEVER HAD ANYTHING BUT CHEVY EXCEPT FOR ONE LEMON THAT WAS A DODGE DURANGO (ANOTHER RECALL THAT DIDN'T EFFECT MY CAR). *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY MY POWER STEERING SEEMED TO SUDDENLY GO OUT - IT BECAME DIFFICULT FOR ME TO STEER THE DIRECTION I NEEDED TO GO. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE FREEWAY WHERE A GAS STATION ATTENDANT TOLD ME THAT HE HAD ANOTHER CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE A SIMILAR PROBLEM AND THAT THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY BY TURNING THE CAR OFF AND THEN RESTARTING IT. I AM SO CONCERNED THAT THE STEERING IS SUCH A SAFETY ISSUE THAT I CANNOT LET MY PETITE 21-YEAR OLD DAUGHTER DRIVE THIS CAR'SHE DEFINITELY WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THE STRENGTH NECESSARY TO CONTROL THE CAR AND SAFELY GET IT OFF THE ROAD. *TR

BUSHINGS ON RIGHT FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM FAILED AT MILEAGE 14325 AND 2 YEARS 6 MONTHS USAGE OF FAIR WEAR & TEAR REQUIRING CONTROL ARM REPLACEMENT FOR SAFETY OF USE. BUSHINGS ON LEFT FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM FAILED AT MILEAGE 15,644 AND 2 YEARS 9 MONTHS OF FAIR WEAR & TEAR REQUIRING CONTROL ARM REPLACEMENT FOR SAFETY OF USE. NO ACCIDENT, BUMPS OR POT HOLES CAUSED OR CONTRIBUTED TO FAILURE. *TR

CHEVY 2007 COBALT - GAS LEAK FROM FUEL TANK. FOUND PLASTIC HOUSING CRACK OF FUEL TANK CRACKED IN REAR OF TANK AT SEAM WHERE HOSE CONNECTS. RESULT FUEL POURING OUT OF SEAM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE DEALER TOLD THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE BUT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE AS THE ONE DESCRIBED IN RECALL 10V073000 (STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM). THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 70,000.
CHEVROLET COBALT STEERING FAILURE. *TR
WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY GOING 55 MPG, WEATHER CLEAR, ROAD CLEAR, WENT TO APPLY BRAKES AND NO POWER TO CAR WHAT SO EVER, CAR DID COMPLETE U-TURN ON FREEWAY AND HIT SIDE CURBING ON FREEWAY WHICH CAUSED TIRE AND RIM DAMAGE. LIGHTS CAME ON DASH AND CAR WAS NOT ON WHEN IT CRASHED. CAR WAS TAKEN TO RALLY CHEVROLET FOR REPAIRS AND I TOLD THEM THAT CAR JUST QUIT RESPONDING AND I HAD NO CONTROL OF CAR. THEY SAID THEY FOUND NOTHING MECHANICALLY WRONG, MY INSURANCE HAD TO PAY FOR REPAIRS AND I HAD TO PAY DEDUCTIBLE FOR REPAIRS, AN INVESTIGATOR CAME OUT TO CHECK MECHANICAL ISSUES WITH CAR, BUT CODES HAD BEEN ERASED FROM RALLY CHEVROLET. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE SHE WAS MAKING A TURN AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH. THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE POWER STEERING FAILED AGAIN WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE ODOMETER READING WAS NO LONGER VISIBLE. THE CONTACT SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED IT. AFTER RESTARTING IT, THE POWER STEERING FUNCTIONED NORMALLY WITH NO FAILURES. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 31,000.
I CONSTANTLY HAVE PROBLEMS WITH MY 07 COBALT, EVERY TIME IT RAINS, OR IT'S WET OUT, THE ENGINE STARTS TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY, AND GAS STARTS SPEWING OUT OF THE TAILPIPE CAUSING AN IMMENSE AMOUNT OF SMOKE TO COME OUT, BUT WHEN IT DRIES UP, THE PROBLEM STOPS, ONLY TO RESTART AGAIN WHEN IT RAINS. I'VE BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND ALSO PRIVATE SHOPS, AND CALLED G.M CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND NO ONE HAS ANY CLUE AS TO WHY THIS KEEPS HAPPENING. THIS IS FUEL RELATED, AND IM WORRIED IT COULD CAUSE HARM TO ME, AND MY FAMILY IF NOT RESOLVED. SOMEHOW, WATER IS GETTING INTO THE FUEL LINE MAKING THIS HAPPEN AND NOBODY KNOWS HOW. IT EVEN HAPPENS WHEN I RUN THE A.C, WHEN THE MOISTURE FROM THE COMPRESSOR DRIPS DOWN. IT HAS BEEN VERY COSTLY TO FIND NO SOLUTION, ANY ADVICE, OR REPAIRS THAT WERE DONE TO FIX THIS WOULD BE VERY APPRECIATED AND HELPFUL. *TR
2007 CHEVROLET COLBALT. 03/30/10, POWER STEERING WENT OUT SEVEN TIMES IN THIRTY TWO MILES ON MY WAY TO WORK. HAS CAUSED NEAR ACCIDENTS ON CURVES AND ICY ROADS MANY MORE TIMES. PROBLEM IS CORRECTED TEMPORARILY WHEN VEHICHLE IGNITION IS TURNED OFF (WHILE STILL IN MOTION) THEN TURNED BACK ON AND STARTED. POWER STEERING HAS WENT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF NEGOTIATING A CORNER CAUSING ME TO INADVERTANTLY GO INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANE AND OVER CORRECT WHEN RETURNING TO LANE OF TRAVEL.
IN LATE MARCH, I STARTED NOTICING THE SMELL OF GAS WHEN I WOULD GET IN THE CAR TO GO SOMEWHERE. I JUST THOUGHT THIS WAS FROM GAS BEING SPILLED WHEN REMOVING THE GAS NOZZLE AFTER FILLING THE TANK. ON APRIL 3RD, THE SMELL GOT EXTREMELY STRONG AND I HAD TO KEEP THE WINDOWS DOWN IN ORDER TO DRIVE THE CAR. ON MONDAY APRIL 5TH, I TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC TO INVESTIGATE THE SOURCE OF THE SMELL. THE MECHANIC CALLED ME BACK AROUND MID-DAY TO INFORM ME THE FUEL PUMP LINE HAD BROKEN OFF AT THE TOP THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY, WHERE THE PIECE SHOULD NOT HAVE BROKEN. THE MECHANIC ALSO INFORMED ME, THERE WAS GAS ALL OVER THE PLACE ONCE THE TANK WAS REMOVED. HE QUOTED: "IT'S A WONDER THE CAR DID NOT EXPLODE" I HAVE SINCE CONTACTED GM VIA THE 800 #, BEING THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. I'VE READ THE RECALL INFORMATION, IT IS BASED ON STATE LOCATED IN HOT CLIMATES AREA FOR NOW, BUT THIS PROBLEM IS HAPPENING IN OTHER STATES NOT LISTED IN THE LETTER. *TR
I DRIVE A 2007 CHEVY COBALT AND I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD TODAY BRING MY SON HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL AFTER SURGERY,AND I GET A WARNING LIGHT ABOUT THE POWER STEERING, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I CANT TURN LEFT OR RIGHT IN THE ROAD, I TURN HARD LEFT IT TURNS AND I READ THE OWNERS MANUAL TO FIND OUT IF I NEED FLUID OR WHAT EVER AND IT DOESN'T TAKE FLUID I GET HOME AND READ ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM FROM HUNDREDS OF OTHER PEOPLE AND OWNERS I CAN NOT AFFORD TO GO FIX MY CAR MY HUSBAND JUST GOT LAID OFF, I HAVE TO WAIT AND HOPE THIS IS A RECALL PLEASE WORK ON THIS BEFORE SOMEONE WAS HURT, I PRAISE GOD THAT ME AND MY CHILD GOT HOME SAFE TODAY, UNTIL FURTHER I HAVE TO PARK MY CAR.. *TR
TL*CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT LT. THE CONTACT STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND PROCEEDED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN AT 3 MPH. WHILE TURNING, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE VEHICLE VEERED TO THE RIGHT TOWARD A CURB. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE DEALER INFORMED HER THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE STRUTS AND NOT THE POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC TOLD HER THAT THE STRUTS WERE NOT DEFECTIVE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,081. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 99,312.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE POWER STEERING LIGHT APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THEN THE STEERING WHEEL BECOME HARDER TO TURN. THE DEALER HAD NOT DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 36,500.
DRIVING VEHICLE AND POWER STEERING FAILED, WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILED IT CAUSED DIFFICULTY DRIVING THE CAR WHERE YOU COULD BARELY DRIVE. SOMETIMES YOU CAN'T EVEN TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED FOR RECALL #09226 TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP MODULE PARTS#19168894W-MODULE-KI. AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED THE FUEL PUMP, GAUGE AND ALARM ARE SHOWING BELOW RED AND LOW FUEL LEVEL. WHEN FUEL WAS ADDED, THE GAUGE DID NOT MOVE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND WAS ADVISED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND RECOMMENDED THAT THE CONTACT ONLY USE CHEVRON FUEL. AFTER RECEIVING THE VEHICLE BACK, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO INCORRECTLY SHOW A LOW FUEL LEVEL. THE MANUFACTURER AND SERVICE MANAGER WERE CALLED NUMEROUS TIMES BUT HAD NOT RETURNED THE CALLS MADE BY THE CONTACT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,143.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVY COBALT LP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 5 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WOULD FAIL. HE WAS ABLE TO RESET THE POWER STEERING ASSIST BY SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTING IT WITHIN A FEW MINUTES. THE POWER STEERING WOULD FUNCTION AS DESIGNED ONCE IT WAS RESTARTED. THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,600.
POWER STEERING KEEPS GOING OUT ON MY SONS CAR. I AM CONCERNED IF POWER STEERING GOES OUT WHILE MAKING TURNS COULD BE DANGEROUS. THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT FROM TIME TO TIME HAVE TO STOP RESTART SOMETIMES THAT WILL TAKE CARE OF IT FOR A LITTLE WHILE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 COBALT ON MARCH 7TH 2010 WHEN THE WHEEL BECAME ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. THE WORDS POWER STEERING WERE SHOWING ON THE DASHBOARD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH. THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING WITHOUT WARNING. SUDDENLY, THE VEHICLE SWERVED OFF OF THE ROAD UNCONTROLLABLY AND ROLLED OVER INTO THE BUSHES. THE CONTACT WAS EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE WITHOUT USAGE OF THE SEAT BELT. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE LUNGS, AND RIBS. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER THREE TIMES IN THE PAST MONTH. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. I DROVE MY 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT INTO A HARDWARE STORE PARKING LOT AND WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN TO FIND A PARKING SPACE WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED. I WAS UNABLE TO COMPLETE THE TURN AND AS A RESULT HIT THE CEMENT POLE THAT WAS PROTECTING THE CABLE THAT WAS ATTACHED TO THE TELEPHONE POLE. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME, BUT LATER THAT NIGHT I HAD TO GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM AS I WAS IN A LOT OF PAIN. AFTER READING MY X-RAYS, THE DOCTOR SAID I HAD RIB CONTUSIONS AND WHIPLASH. A WEEK LATER I AM STILL SUFFERING PAIN AND UNABLE TO FUNCTION NORMALLY FROM THE ACCIDENT. I HAVE NOT HAD THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR ADDRESSED YET AND I DON'T INTENT TO DRIVE IT AGAIN. *TR

RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM GM LAST WEEK ADVISING OF SAFETY ISSUE AND PENDING RECALL. APPOINTMENT SCHEDULED WITH DEALERSHIP FOR 3/1/10 AND VEHICLE TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP AT 9AM EST. AFTER 2 HOURS, DEALER INSPECTED VEHICLE, FOUND NO PROBLEM, AND ADVISED MY DAUGHTER SHE WOULD INCUR A CHARGE OF $250 IF FUEL TANK WAS DROPPED AND NO PROBLEM FOUND. CALLED GM, WHO ADVISED VEHICLE WAS NOT SUBJECT TO ANY RECALLS, EVEN THOUGH I REFERRED THEM TO THE RECALL POST ON NHTSA SITE. GM ADVISED TO KEEP DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE "FUEL SMELL" BECAME WORSE, AS THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR FIND ANY EVIDENCE OF FUEL LEAKAGE. GM CASE NUMBER ASSIGNED. PICKED UP DAUGHTER AND LEFT VEHICLE AT DEALERSHIP. CONTACTED NHTSA VIA PHONE RE: RECALL INTERPRETATION. CONTACTED GM AGAIN, WHO FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGED VEHICLE WAS SUBJECT TO RECALL BUT COULDN'T AUTHORIZE REPAIR SPECIFIED IN RECALL WITHOUT APPROVAL AT GM DISTRICT LEVEL . ADVISED GM THAT THE RECALL NOTICE DID NOT SAY "INSPECT AND REPLACE AS NECESSARY" BUT DID SAY "REPLACE FUEL PUMP SYSTEM. THE CAR HAS BEEN RECALLED AND SPECIFIC ACTION REQUIRES "DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP MODULE FREE OF CHARGE" WAS SPECIFIED. GM WILL NOT PERFORM THE REQUIRED ACTION WITHOUT APPROVAL AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL AND ADVISES THEY WILL RESPOND WITHIN 24 BUSINESS HOURS. VEHICLE REMAINS AT DEALERSHIP. *TR

SHE WAS CONCERNED, DUE TO MEDICAL REASONS, THAT SHE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IF THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR HER YEAR (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V073000), MAKE AND MODEL; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT CONFIRM IF HER VIN WAS A PART OF THE RECALL BECAUSE THEY HAD NOT DEVISED AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE. THE FAILURE PERSISTED AND THERE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 50,300.

STEERING SHAKES ALOT ON ROUGH ROADS AND SOMETIMES WHEN APPLYING THE BREAK. WE BROUGHT THE CAR IN TO THE DEALER A DOZEN TIMES. THEY SAID THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. WE BROUGHT IT TO DIFFERENT DEALERS AND THEY SAID IT MIGHT BE THE I-SHAFT WE HAVE NOT FIXED THIS YET BECAUSE WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR A FOR SURE ANSWER WHAT IT IS. MY FUTURE MOTHER IN LAW HAS A SIMILAR CAR BUT DIFFERENT YEAR AND HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. THE STARTED OF THE SHAKING BOTH CARS HAD 32000 MILES ON THEM. I HAD BEEN OUT OF TOWN AND HAD DRIVEN 200 ALMOST NON STOP, INTERSTATE TRAVEL ALL DAY, WHEN WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT. IT BECAME DIFFICULT TO KEEP MY CAR STEADY AND HAD SEVERE DIFFICULTY FOLLOWING THE TWISTS OF THE ROAD AS THE WHEEL WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN, EVEN JUST TO CHANGE LANES, OR FOLLOW THE CURVES OF THE ROAD THROUGH ROAD WORK. I HAD TO SWERVE TO MISS A TRUCK THAT SWERVED INTO MY LANE, AND ALMOST CRASHED DUE TO THE FACT MY WHEEL WAS SO DIFFICULT TO TURN. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SO I STOPPED, TURNED OFF MY VEHICLE FOR A FEW MINUTES, TURNED IT BACK ON AND WORKED FINE. WENT 4 MILES, AND IT WENT OUT AGAIN. I DROVE ANOTHER 60 MILES AND IT DIDN'T COME BACK ON. I HAVE 58000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY SO ANY WORK DONE TO IT WILL BE OUT OF MY POCKET. *TR
