2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO CORROSION OF THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES CAUSING FLUID LOSS AND IMPAIRMENT OF FULL SYSTEM BRAKING. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED AN INVESTIGATION SHOWED THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. *JB
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. DEALER STATES B0081 71 CODE FOUND WHEN SCANNED AND PASSENGER PRESENCE CODE 23 SET. FOUND BULLETIN 09-06-40-003A COVERING THIS ISSUE. CHECKED WIRING, MODIFIED SLEEVE AND RECOMMENDED REPLACING PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT TENSIONER. RESEARCH SHOWS THIS TO BE A KNOWN DEFECT AND DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGED THIS BY MODIFYING THE CONNECTOR SLEEVE. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR REPAIRS AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER.
"TAKATA RECALL" WHEN GOING SLOW IN DRIVE AND REVERSE MY CAR BEGAN TO HAVE TROUBLE STEERING. IT PHYSICALLY GO TO THE POINT WHERE I WAS MANUALLY TURNING IT MY SELF WITH NO HELP FROM THE POWER STEERING. THE DASH LIGHTS HAVE GONE OUT, NONE OF THEM ARE CURRENTLY WORKING....I HAVE TO DRIVE WITH A FLASH LIGHT SECURED TO MY DASH JUST TO SEE MY GAUGES. I AM UNABLE TO SEE ANY THING ELSE THAT COMES UP ON MY DASH THAT HAS TO BE SEEN BY A LIGHT. MY GEAR SHIFT LIGHTS DO NOT WORK. I MUST TURN ON THE DOME LIGHT IN ORDER TO SEE THE GEAR I SHIFT INTO. HEATING/AC LIGHTS ARE GONE. TAIL LIGHTS ALSO ARE NOT WORKING. HAVE CHANGED THE LIGHT BULBS AND STILL NO TAIL LIGHTS.

THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE NEEDED TO BE ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DID NOT DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 96,025.

I HAVE MADE A COMPLAINT BEFORE ABOUT MY CAR STALLING WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR IDLING AND THE ISSUE STILL HASN'T BEEN FIXED. STILL NO ONE CAN DIAGNOSE MY CAR, EVEN THOUGH THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. MY CAR HAS NOW STARTED DYING WHEN I AM DRIVING. I'LL GET UP TO A SPEED AND SUDDENLY MY CAR IS OFF ON THE FREEWAY. I STILL HAVE NO CODE BEING THROWN ON MY CAR. I HAVE PUT MONEY INTO THE CAR AND NOTHING HAS MADE A DIFFERENCE.

THE HOOD LATCH HOOK PART OF THE HOOD IS RUSTING TO A POINT WHERE ITS READY TO BREAK OFF WHICH WILL LEAD TO THE HOOD BEING OPENED WHEN DRIVING

BOUGHT IN NOV 2015 FROM CARMAX. IMMEDIATELY HAD TO FLUSH ALL FLUIDS, REPLACE BREAKS, AND ROTORS. THE CAR SHUTS OFF. GAUGES GO HAYWIRE, ALL WARNING LIGHTS COME ON AND THEN THE POWER STEERING CUTS OUT. THE CAR THEN SHUTS DOWN. THIS SERIES OF EVENTS HAPPENS WHENEVER IT WANTS TO. WHEN I'VE JUST PUT GAS IN IT, ON THE INTERSTATE, IN AN INTERSECTION, IN THE RAIN, OR IN 85 DEGREE WEATHER FOR EXAMPLE. SO FAR GMC HAS REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP OR SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL PUMP (I'M NO MECHANIC, SO I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS) BUT I WAS TOLD IT WAS FIXED. OBVIOUSLY IT'S NOT. THIS PROBLEM HAS NOW HAPPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK. I EVEN HAVE VIDEO GRAPHIC PROOF. HONESTLY, I'M TERRIFIED OF THE CAR AND I JUST WANT RID OF IT WITH MY MONEY BACK. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THIS CAR KILLS ME AND OR OTHER PEOPLE WHILE I'M DRIVING IT? I'VE SET UP AN APT WITH CARMAX TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT, BUT IF THEY CAN'T RECREATE THE PROBLEM WHAT THEN? I'VE GOT AN APPRAISER COMING OUT FROM CHEVY ON THIS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9TH. I JUST NEED SOMEONE TO HELP ME.

WHILE DRIVING THE CAR, THE SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT AND THE ENG PWR REDUCED NOTIFICATION CAME ON. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THERE WAS A THUMP SOUND, THE CAR HESITATED AND LOST ACCELERATION FOR A COUPLE SECONDS AND THE CAR HAD OBVIOUS PERFORMANCE ISSUES AFTER THAT. AT THE TIME THAT THIS OCCURRED, I WAS MERGING INTO MOVING TRAFFIC AND WAS ALMOST HIT BY THE CAR BEHIND ME, SINCE THE CAR HESITATED FOR A MOMENT, REDUCING MY MERGING SPEED AT A TIME THAT I NEEDED TO BE ACCELERATING. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY BAD SITUATION!
FOR 2 TO 3 MONTHS I HAVE BEEN SMELLING A STRONG GASOLINE SMELL AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND ANY LEAKS ANYWHERE. THIS HAPPENS WHETHER I AM DRIVING OR STATIONARY
FUEL LINE LEAKING GAS AT FUEL TANK. DEALER SAID NOT COVERED BY ANY RECALLS OR CAMPAIGNS, ALTHOUGH THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. QUOTED $950 TO REPAIR. APPEARS CAMPAIGN COVERS COBALTS FROM SOUTHERN STATES, BUT NOT OTHERS. VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS CAR COULD CATCH FIRE. CAR HAS 150,000 MILES
MY CAR HAS AN EXTREMELY STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE COMING FROM THE VENTS AND AROUND THE CAR . EVEN WHEN PARKED IT STILL SURROUNDS THE VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD THAT IT COULD BE A CRACKED SEAL. I CAN ONLY GET IT STARTED WHEN I VIGOROUSLY PUMP THE ACCELERATOR WHILE TURNING THE KEY. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS BUT NEVER GOT IT IN THE MAIL....? TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2008 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THERE WAS A BURNING ODOR COMING FROM THE HEADLIGHTS. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. MULTIPLE TIMES (NOT ONLY TODAY) MY VEHICLE DID NOT LET ME OPEN THE DOORS, THE PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE HAD TOO MUCH GIVE AND DID NOT ALLOW MY PASSENGER TO OPEN THEIR (PASSENGER) DOOR. I HAD TO WALK AROUND THE CAR AND TRY TO OPEN IT FROM THE OUTSIDE, WHICH DID NOT WORK, EITHER. AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF TRYING I BANGED MY FIST NEXT TO THE LOCK, WHICH ALLOWED THE CAR TO OPEN. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED TO ME ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. LUCKILY, THERE WAS NOT AN EMERGENCY, BUT IF THERE WERE, IF WE WERE IN AN ACCIDENT OR THE CAR WAS ON FIRE, WE MIGHT HAVE BEEN TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE. ANOTHER ISSUE THE CAR IS HAVING IS STEREO PROBLEMS AND SPEAKER MALFUNCTION. MY FRONT SPEAKERS DO NOT WORK AT ALL AND THE FRONT LEFT (DRIVER SPEAKER) IS THE ONE WARNING CHIMES COME OUT OF, INCLUDING THE BLINKER. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND IT IS A VERY COMMON MALFUNCTION. IT IS NOT DANGEROUS PER SE, BUT A BLINKER LEFT ON UNKNOWINGLY COULD EASILY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE RESEARCHED BOTH OF THE ISSUES ONLINE, ESPECIALLY THE LATTER IS VERY COMMON FOR COBALT OWNERS. I HAVE CONTACTED GM, AND WAS TOLD I NEED TO GET THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED FOR MY OWN MONEY, EVEN THOUGH IT CLEARLY IS A MALFUNCTION BY THE PARTS/FLAW IN DESIGN TO GET GM CUSTOMERS TO PAY PREMIUMS FOR FIXING PARTS THAT SHOULD NOT GO WRONG.

WE LEFT THE YARD AND GOT A QUARTER MILE SOWN THE ROAD WHEN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WENT WHACKY AND THEN IMMEDIATELY LOST THE POWER STEERING. I HAD THIS PROBLEM FIXED BACK IN 2012 AND THERE WAS A RECALL ON IT. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING AGAIN. I AM SO WORRIED I'M GOING TO GET HURT OR HURT SOMEONE ELSE BECAUSE I AM UNABLE TO STEER. THANK GOD MY FIANC WAS WITH ME SO HE COULD DRIVE US BACK TO THE HOUSE.
PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE OFF A USED CAR LOT FEB/2015 WITHIN A MONTH OF USE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID LINES BROKE. GOT BACK ON THE ROAD, SEVERAL MONTHS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE POWER STEERING SENSOR AS WELL. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO BECOME HARDER TO HANDLE. I'M SCARED THAT IT WILL CUT OUT ON MY WIFE AND INFANT.

TOOK CAR IN TO REPLACE STRUTS DUE TO CLUNKING SOUND WHILE GOING OVER ANY SURFACE THAT WAS NOT PERFECTLY SMOOTH. TURNS OUT THE SWAY BAR AND BEARINGS WERE FAILING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. APPARENTLY I WAS VERY CLOSE TO A POSSIBLE BAD ACCIDENT. IT WAS QUITE COSTLY TO REPAINT AND I AM FINDING THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM GM IS AWARE OF.
WHEELS- THE CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS WEAR TREMENDOUSLY AND RATTLE MAKING THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. STEERING- THE STEERING WHEEL HAS A TON OF "PLAY" BEFORE IT ENGAGES IN A TURN. BRAKES- THE REAR DRUMS AND SHOES WEAR EXCESSIVELY FAST CAUSING SEVERE DETERIORATION AND GRINDING.
THE AIR BAG SWITCHED TURNED ON AND DOES NOT CUT OFF AND NOW THE CAR HESITATES TO START UP. ALL MY RECALLS HAVE BEEN DUE TO EITHER ELECTRICAL, STEERING AND IGNITION PROBLEMS. NOW THEIR IS AN ISSUE WITJ THE AIR BAG AND IGNITION. IT CHOKES THEM STARTS AFTER TURNING THE KEY ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT BUT IT HESITATES TO START. THIS DUDNT NOT HAPPEN UNITL THE AIR BAGS LIGHT STARTED TO STAY ON.
CLEAR COAT ON THE FRONT BUMPER IS COMING OFF REALLY BAD. THE PAINT SEEMS TO STAY ON THE BUMPER BUT PROGRESSIVELY FLAKES OFF MORE EVERY DAY. IT STARTS AS A SMALL SPOT THEN EXPANDS LIKE A VIRUS. THE UNDERSIDE OF THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOORS BEGIN TO RUST AND ARE SPREADING TO THE OUTER PARTS OF THE DOORS AND BODY. THE INTERIOR LIGHTING FOR THE CENTER-CONSOLE (CLIMATE CONTROL) BURN OUT FAST AND FAIL TO ILLUMINATE THE REST OF THE BUTTONS. I ENDED UP SPENDING $1334.21 FOR A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND TWO GASKETS. I WAS ALSO OUT $111.26 FOR A RENTAL AS I WAS GOING TO DISNEYLAND AND KNOTT'S BERRY FARM AFTER A STOP TO SAN DIEGO. I HAD TO HAVE THE RENTAL FROM THURSDAY TO SATURDAY OR I WOULD HAVE MISSED TIME AT DISNEYLAND. I PICKED THE DAY FOR KNOTT'S BERRY FARM. ACCORDING TO CHEVROLET, THE 2005-2007 COBALTS IN NEVADA (WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND LIVE) ARE AFFECTED BY A CATALYTIC CONVERTER ISSUE; HOWEVER AFTER CONTACTING CHEVROLET AND ADVISING THEM OF MY ISSUE -- THEY TELL ME (DESPITE THE IDENTICAL ISSUE) -- MY MODEL IS NOT AFFECTED. I AM LOOKING FOR $1445.47 IN COMPENSATION FOR ACTUAL LOSSES. I WOULD LIKE COMPENSATORY DAMAGES SINCE CHEVROLET IS REFUSING TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND INVESTIGATE OR REIMBURSE ME AND IT AFFECTED MY VACATION. ALSO, I WANT THE RECALL EXTENDED TO THE 2008 MODELS.
