MANUFACTURING DEFECTED IN THE LS7 MOTOR. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I HAD MY 2006 CORVETTE Z06 INSPECTED FOR A LOUD AUDIBLE TICK IN THE MOTOR. THE SOURCE OF THIS NOISE WAS FROM THE IN-BALANCE FROM THE #3 AND #4 INTAKE VALVES ON THE ENGINES HEADS. THERE IS PREMATURE WEAR ON BOTH VALVE GUIDES CAUSING INTERNAL FAILURE TO THE MOTOR. UNDER POWER DEMAND THE IN-BALANCE WILL CAUSE THE TITANIUM ROD TO STRIKE THE SIDES OF THE VALVE SEAT CAUSING THE HEAD OF THE VALVE TO CRACK AND FALL INTO THE CYLINDER. ONCE THIS OCCURS INSTANT CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE MOTOR HAPPENS RESULTING IN WHITE BELLOWING SMOKE FROM THE EXHAUST, OIL SPILLAGE, AND ENGINE LOCK RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE SKIDDING OFF THE ROAD OR LOOSING CONTROL. FORTUNATELY FOR ME I CAUGHT THIS IN TIME BEFORE HAVING A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. BOTH LS7 HEADS ARE BEING REPAIRED AND MACHINED TO MEET INDUSTRY STANDARDS. THIS PROBLEM MUST BE ADDRESSED TO ALL LS7 Z06 OWNERS AS IT COULD AND HAS CAUSED SEVERAL CRASHES AND POSSIBLE DEATHS. ONCE REPAIRS TO THE LS7 HEADS ARE MADE THE VEHICLE CAN BE RETURNED TO SERVICE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR SPONTANEOUSLY OPENED INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
ENGINE WAS FOUND TO HAVE VALVE GUIDE CLEARANCES EXTREMELY OUT OF ALLOWABLE SPECS. PROBLEM WAS DETECTED BY AMERICAN HERITAGE PERFORMANCE, A COMPANY THAT SPECIALIZES IN THESE TYPES OF ENGINES. IF THE PROBLEM HAD NOT BEEN CORRECTED AND A FAILURE HAD OCCURRED, IT COULD HAVE LOCKED UP THE ENGINE CAUSING THE REAR WHEEL TO LOCK UP AND SEND THE CAR OUT OF CONTROL.

I STARTED THE CAR WHEN IT WAS COLD, IT BEGAN TO SQUEAL FROM THE BELTS. I GAVE IT A SMALL REV AND IT SQUEALED INTENSELY, I MEAN VERY LOUDLY! I OPENED THE HOOD AND BELTS WERE NOT MOVING. I COULD NOT MOVE THE CAR. THE HARMONIC BALANCER HAD LOST IT'S BOND. I AM JUST GLAD I WAS SITTING STILL. AT SPEED, THE STEERING WOULD HAVE BEEN LOST, IT COULD HAVE KILLED ME! I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE SHOP, AND IT COST ME $1000.00. NOT GOOD! I READ THAT THIS HAPPENS ALOT. BAD DESIGN FOR SURE. I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED. WHAT CAN I DO? CHEVY WON'T EVEN TALK TO ME ABOUT IT. HELLO, I AM REPORTING ON MY 2006 C6Z06 CORVETTE THAT RECENTLY HAD THE VALVE-TO-GUIDE CLEARANCES CHECKED ON MY ENGINE AND MY MEASUREMENTS ARE BEYOND THE SERVICEABLE SPECIFICATIONS ON 8 OUT OF 16 VALVES, BOTH INTAKE AND EXHAUST. I CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY HAZARD DUE TO THE FACT THAT IF THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN AND ENGINE SEIZES, LOSS OF CONTROL MAY OCCUR. I ALSO HAVE WHAT APPEARS TO BE A LEAK ON THE FUEL MODULE/SENDING UNIT, SPECIFICALLY ON THE TOP PLASTIC ELBOW CONNECTOR. I HAVE STRONG GASOLINE ODOR IN THE CABIN OF THE CAR AND VISIBLE GASOLINE FROM THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR NEAR THE FUEL TANK. *TR
I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 60MPH WHEN MY LIGHTS WENT OUT. I HAD TO PULL OVER, AND THEIR WAS A GOOD DEAL OF TRAFFIC. I DISCOVERED THAT MY BRIGHT LIGHTS WERE WORKING. I HAD THIS PROBLEM OFF AND ON FOR AWHILE. I TOOK MY CAR IN TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. I GOT IT BACK AND CONTINUED HAVING THE PROBLEM. I HAVE AVOIDED DRIVING AT NIGHT WHICH LIMITS THE USE OF YOUR CAR. MOST PEOPLE WOULD CONSIDER THIS TO BE DANGEROUS AND DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE-DRIVING AND HAVING YOUR LIGHTS GO OUT IN TRAFFIC. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY STREET AT 35 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND HEARD A METALLIC SOUND. THE ENGINE LOCKED UP AND THE REAR END SKIDDED TILL I PUT IN THE CLUTCH AND COASTED TO A PARKING LOT. I WAS AWARE OF THE VALVE PROBLEMS SO I TOOK THE HEAD OFF THE ENGINE AND SURE ENOUGH DROPPED A VALVE TAKING OUT THE PISTON AND BREAKING THE BLOCK. I TOOK THE CAR TO KOOL CHEVY AND WAS TOLD IN WOULD COST 22,000 DOLLARS TO FIX IT. KOOL TOLD ME GM WOULD NOT COVER ANY OF IT BECAUSE THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AT 59,000 MILE ON THE CAR. I COULD NOT AFFORD TO FIX THE CAR SO I SOLD THE CAR AS IS LOSING MORE THAN HALF WHAT THE CAR WAS WORTH. I AM STILL SICK ABOUT THIS A YEAR LATER AS I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO HAVE ANOTHER CAR LIKE THIS. I FEEL LIKE GM SHOULD HAVE WORKED WITH ME AS THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE LS7 ENGINE. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A LOT WORSE THAN IT WAS. LOST POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES, AND SKIDDED WHEN THE ENGINE LOCKED UP.

THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO UTILIZE THE HIGH BEAM LIGHTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000.
MY LOW BEAM LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING. GOT HAD DRIVEN TO A LOCATION IN DAYLIGHT. 2 HOURS LATER (DARK) I STARTED THE CAR AND THE LOW-BEAMS DIDN'T COME ON. I GOT HOME (ON FOG LAMPS) AND INSPECTS THE FUSE BOX. THOUGHT THE LOW BEAM RELAY WAS FAULTY SO WENT IN ANOTHER VEHICLE TO PURCHASE ONE. REPLACING THE RELAY, THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED UNTIL THE NEXT DAY, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THIS IS WHEN I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND MY CAR IS PART OF A GM RECALL; GM RECALL #: N130146 NHTSA RECALL #: 14V-251 DATE ISSUED: MAY 28, 2014 THIS SAME SYMPTOM HAS HAPPENED EVERY DAY SINCE. I BOOKED MY CAR INTO LONESTAR CHEVROLET, HOUSTON, TO HAVE THIS TAKEN CARE OF. THE TECHNICIAN, MANAGER AND CHEVROLET CONTACT CENTER ALL TOLD ME THE SAME THING. "THE PARTS TO REPAIR THIS AREN'T READY YET (4 MONTHS!!). YOU ARE PERFECTLY SAFE TO DRIVE ON HIGH-BEAMS." IN MY OPINION, IT IS IRRESPONSIBLE TO TELL YOUR CUSTOMER THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE AND TO DRIVE ILLEGALLY AT NIGHT IN THE MEAN-TIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE EQUIPPED WITH FOUR AFTERMARKET MHT F350 NITROUS SEC WHEELS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INNER WHEEL FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE TIRES TO PUNCTURE AND BENT THE RIMS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE DRIVER SIDE TIRE AND WHEEL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FOUR TIRES FLATTENED DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000. ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS MOVED FORWARD THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE BRAKE CALIPER ENGAGED INDEPENDENTLY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SHIFT TO THE LEFT AND INTO ANOTHER LANE. THE PROBLEM RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE PLUG IN THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V172000 (STEERING). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000.

FIRST INCIDENT 15000 MILES, SECOND INCIDENT 38000 MILES. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DOES NOT GO INTO PARK. LOCKED IN NEUTRAL OR DRIVE ONLY. TRANSMISSION CABLE OR REVERSE LOCK OUT SOLENOID GOES BAD. THE SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVEING. I LOOKED UP THE VIN NUMBER AND ACCORDING TO CHEVROLET MY VEHICLE IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THIS IS ODD DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR BUILT IN JANUARY 2006 HAS THE SAME ISSUE. CHEVROLET HAS REFUSED TO FIX THIS ISSUE WHICH ONLY TAKES A SMALL CLIP INSTALLED TO REPAIR. ACCORDING TO BLOGS IT COULD CAUSE THE CARS BRAKES TO MAKE THE CARE VEAR TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS DANGEROUS THAT IT MAY HAPPEN. *TR
THE HARMONIC DAMPER ON 2006 CORVETTE WITH LS2 ENGINE FAILED RESULTING IN POWER STEERING DRIVE BELT COMING OFF PULLEY CAUSING LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE HIGH EFFORT REQUIRED TO STEER VEHICLE ALMOST RESULTED IN CRASH. THIS HARMONIC DAMPER ISSUE IS DOCUMENTED IN NUMEROUS INTERNET FORUMS AND IS BELIEVED TO BE A WIDESPREAD ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED AND CORRECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER. *JS
RE: GM RECALL #13146 UNDERHOOD BUSSED ELECTRICAL CENTER (UBEC) HOUSING WILL EXPAND CAUSING FAILURE OF LOW-BEAM HEADLIGHTS. I RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE IN JULY 2014 BUT THE PROBLEM HAS YET TO BE REMEDIED. CALLED CHEVROLET CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER IN EARLY OCTOBER, THEY ADVISED THAT PROBLEM IS "..BEING WORKED ON." . 3+ MONTHS SEEMS TO BE AN EXCESSIVE TIME TO WAIT FOR A REMEDY. *TR

AFTER STARTING CAR, IT HAD TROUBLE SHIFTING IN GEAR. AFTER PULLING ON GEAR SELECTOR, IT WENT IN DRIVE, BUT WOULDN'T GO IN REVERSE OR PARK. THE CAR WOULDN'T COME OUT OF ACCESSORY POWER MODE, AND I WASN'T ABLE TO PARK THE CAR ON A HILL AS IT HAD TO STAY IN NEUTRAL OR DRIVE. THERE IS NO WAY TO SECURE THE CAR WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THE REPAIR SHOP TELLS ME THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE ON THESE CARS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE FUSE BLOCK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE AVAILABLE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V251000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
WHILE DRIVING THE VERHICLE ON I-55 THE WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH BLINKED AND THE LIGHTS WENT OUT. I WAS ON AN ELEVATED SECTION OF I-55 NORTH OF LAPLACE, LA. AND THERE WAS NO PLACE TO PULL OFF. I TURNED THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS ON AND CONTINUE TO DRIVE OFF OF THE ELEVATED PORTION OF I-55 TO THE FIRST EXIT AND PULLED INTO A SERVICE STATION. FOR THEY KEEP FUSE BOXES FOR CORVETTES IN STOCK, MAKING A COMMENT THAT THEY DON'T KEEP FUSE BOXES IN STOCK FOR HIS TRUCK. I HAVE CHECK OUT A FEW FORUM AND FOUND OUT THAT HIS HAS BEEN A CONSISTENT ISSUES FOR THIS MODEL OF CORVETTES. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, AS YOU DEPEND ON THE DEPENDABILITY OF HAVING LIGHTS WHILE DRIVING. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTER STUCK IN PARK. IN THE 2006 MODEL BOTH OF THESE ISSUES WILL EVENTUALLY LEAD TO BEING "STUCK IN PARK" AND YOU CANNOT CONTROL WHEN OR WHERE. IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH GM AND THEY HAVE FAILED TO ISSUE A RECALL BECAUSE OF THE CARS AGE. IT IS STARTING TO EFFECT NEWER MODELS AND LIKELY THE SAME OR SIMILAR PART. THE SAFETY LOCKING SOLENOID GOES BAD, AND THE PART IS NOT REPLACEABLE ON ITS OWN. YOU HAVE TO BUY AN ENTIRE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY. IT WILL COST UPWARDS OF 700.00 OR MORE.
