TL* THE CONTACT OWN A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, HE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING A TURN WHEN IT STARTED TO MAKE A LOUD NOISE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM WARNING MESSAGE ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V172000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 14,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 16,000.
ON WEDNESDAY 7 NOV 2012, I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AT APPROX 4:30PM AND WHILE CHANGING LANES (FROM THE RH LANE TO THE LH LANE, TO MAKE A LEFT TURN IN APPROX HALF A MILE) WHEN THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRES POPPED AND I SPUN, CROSSED THE MEDIAN, CROSS TWO SOUTHBOUND LANES, STRUCK AN ELECTRICITY POLE, SPUN AGAIN AND FINALLY CAME TO REST ON THE SIDEWALK & GRASS. NEITHER STABILITY CONTROL NOR TRACTION CONTROL ACTIVATED ONCE THE CAR BEGAN TO SPIN (COUNTER CLOCKWISE) WHICH CREATED AN UNCONTROLLABLE AND UNRECOVERABLE SPIN. THE FAILURE OF THESE SYSTEMS ACTIVATE AND OPERATE PROPERLY COULD HAVE KILLED ME AND DESTROYED THE CAR. BOTH SYSTEMS WERE FULLY OPERATIONAL AND ON. ALSO, THE SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN THE IMPACTED THE POLE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. *TR

I WAS INTERNING THE INTERSTATE 15 IN CALIFORNIA AND WAS PICKING UP SPEED TO INTER THE HWY AND MY CORVETTE Z06 STARTING MAKING A KNOCKING SOUND AND LOST POWER AND I TURNED IT OFF AND HAD IT LOOKED AT MY A VERY WELL KNOW AUTOMOTIVE SHOP WHO SPECIALIZES IN GM VEHICLES. THEY TOLD ME IT DROP AN EXHAUST VALVE.
I WAS DRIVING BACK HOME FROM LUNCH WITH A FRIEND I HAVEN'T SEEN FOR A WHILE, CAR RAN FLAWLESSLY UP TO THE LOSS, DROPPED HIM BACK OFF AT HIS CAR AND WE PARTED WAYS. THEN ON MY WAY HOME, MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN, GOING ABOUT 40MPH, 3RD GEAR CRUISING ALONG ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR SOUNDED LIKE THE EXHAUST CAME LOOSE, FOLLOWED BY A LOT OF ENGINE NOISE, FOLLOWED BY A LARGE WHITE PUFF OF SMOKE FROM BEHIND. I HAD A EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT WAS BY MERCURY AND THEY DENIED THE WARRANTY DUE TO ABUSE. WENT TO A RACE EVENT 3 MONTHS PRIOR AND DID 3 RACES ON A STRAIGHT AWAY FROM 50-130, FOUND FOOTAGE OF MY CAR ON YOUTUBE AND THEY CLAIMED THAT WAS THE REASON WHY I BLEW MY MOTOR. THEY SAID I EITHER HAD TO DENY THAT AND RISK GETTING CHARGED WITH FRAUD OR ADMIT THAT WAS ME IN THE VIDEO. THIS WILL DEFINITELY BE THE LAST GM I EVER BUY. NOW LEFT WITH A USELESS CAR AND HAVING TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR A NEW MOTOR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 80 MPH, THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN SWAYING FROM LEFT TO RIGHT ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUED DRIVING HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V172000 (STEERING:COLUMN) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. NOTICED A LOUD TICKING FROM VALVE TRAIN. HAD HEADS REMOVED AND FOUND EXHAUST VALVE GUIDES WERE OUT OF SPECIFICATION AFTER 11,000 MILES BY 50%. HAD TO DO VALVE JOB ON HEADS BECAUSE CHEVY DENIED CLAIM. NOW A RECALL OUT FOR 08 AND NEWER BUT NO COVERAGE FOR 2006 AND 2007! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 50 MPH THE SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND VEERED TO THE LEFT THROUGH TRAFFIC BEFORE HITTING A WALL. THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MINOR CUTS AND BRUISES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
STARTED HEARING SQUEALING SOUNDS A FEW WEEKS AGO. NOTICED THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY HAD A NOTICEABLE WOBBLE. DID A GOOGLE SEARCH & FOUND MULTIPLE REPORTS ON FORUMS, YOUTUBE AND SUCH OF OF OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. ALSO MY FRIEND WITH THE SAME CAR BUT A NEWER YEAR JUST HAD IT REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. MY CAR IS OFF WARRANTY BUT A HARMONIC BALANCER SHOULD NOT WEAR OUT IN SIX YEARS WITH JUST 7,500 MILES (YES, SEVEN THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED). MY 2000 FORD EXPEDITION HAS 151K. CHEVROLET WANTS ABOUT $1,000 TO REPLACE IT. *TR *JS
DRIVING AT NIGHT ON MY WAY HOME, MY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WHEN OUT. HIGH BEAMS STILL WORKED, SO WHEN I GOT HOME I STARTED CHECKING THE FUSES AND RELAYS BUT THEY WERE ALL GOOD. AFTER 2 HOURS WHEN THE CAR COOLED DOWN I RESTARTED THE CAR AND LOW BEAMS WERE WORKING FINE, LEFT THE CAR RUNNING FOR 20 MINUTES AND HEADLIGHTS WHEN OUT AGAIN. APPEARS TO BE A HEATING PROBLEM AT THE FUSE BOX. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT CAN RESULT IN FATALITIES IF GM DOESN'T FIX.
CRUISING AT 50 MPH ON FEEDER RAMP AND DIC SHOWED ENGINE POWER REDUCED FOR 2 SECONDS THEN BOOM! *TR
DRIVING AT NIGHT ON MY WAY HOME, MY LOW BEAMS HEADLIGHTS WHEN OUT. HIGH BEAMS STILL WORKED, SO WHEN I GOT HOME STARTED CHECKING THE FUSES AND RELAYS BUT THEY WERE ALL GOOD, AFTER 2 HOURS I RESTARTED THE CAR AND LOW BEAMS WERE WORKING FINE, LEFT THE CAR RUNNING FOR 20 MINUTES AND HEADLIGHTS WHEN OUT AGAIN. APPEARS TO BE A HEATING PROBLEM AT THE FUSE BOX. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT GM NEEDS TO FIX. *TR
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN OFF IN 2012. EVEN WITH THE KEY OFF THE LOW BEAMS WOULD NOT TURN OFF. REPLACED THE FUSE BOX. IN MAY 2013 LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING AND WOULD COME BACK ON LATER. DROVE WITH HIGH BEAMS TO GET THE VEHICLE HOME. FUSE BOX INCLUDING LOW BEAM RELAY GETS VERY HOT. *TR
DATE OF HEADS PULLED: 7/5/12 HEAD TYPE: GM LS7 YEAR: 2006 MILES: 16,000 TRACK TIME: NONE TUNE: STOCK I HAD MY CYLINDER HEADS REMOVED BECAUSE I WAS PARANOID AFTER READING ONLINE ABOUT MANY OTHER OWNERS HAVING ISSUES WITH THEIR VALVE GUIDES BEING OUT OF SPEC. MY CYLINDER HEADS HAD VALVE GUIDES THAT WERE WAY OUT OF SPEC AND THE CAR ONLY HAD 16,000 MILES ON IT AND WAS NEVER TRACKED OR ABUSED. THESE WERE ON THE VERGE OF HAVING THE VALVE BREAK OFF AND SEIZE THE MOTOR WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY TO MYSELF AND OTHERS AROUND ME WHILE DRIVING. I PAID OUT OF MY OWN POCKET TO HAVE THESE HEADS REDONE. MAX ALLOWABLE CLEARANCE IS 0.0037 FOR BOTH INTAKE AND EXHAUST. DRIVING I95 TEMP ABOUT 80 F NO RAIN DRY VERY LIGHT TRAFFIC AT ABOUT 70 MPH NO MOON LIGHT SELECTOR SET ON AUTO FRONT LIGHTS BOTH LOW BEAM WENT OUT FLIPPED TO HIGH BEAM STILL IN AUTO NO LIGHTS BRAKING TURN OFF TO SIDE OF ROAD STOP MOVE SELECTOR TO MANUAL FROM AUTO NO LOW BEAMS BUT HAVE HIGH BEAMS SHUT CAR OFF LET IT SIT WHILE CHECKING FUSES ALL FUSE CK OK SO CHANGED THEM ANYWAY CLOSE COVERS SET LIGHT SELECTOR TO AUTO LIGHT LOW AND START THE CAR LIGHT CAME ON BOTH HIGH AND LOW IN 20 SEC. LIGHT S GO OUT PLACE LIGHT SELECTOR IN MANUAL NO LOWS AGAIN THEN FLIPPED TO HIGH BEAM DRIVE HOME WITH HIGH BEAMS SO NOW IT IS NOT LIGHT OR RELAY IT MAY VERY WELL BE A TEMPERATURE ISSUE UNDER THE HOOD GET WARM LIGHTS GO OFF. *TR
WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE MOTOR LOCKED UP AND CAUSED A MASSIVE OIL SPILL DUE TO THE ENGINE EXPLODING.. ROOT CAUSE WAS DUE TO A DROPPED VALVE WHICH CAUSED THE WHOLE ENGINE TO BREAK INTO PIECES. THIS IS A WELL DOCUMENTED PROBLEM WITH THE LS7 MOTOR FROM GM. *TR
MASSIVE ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO A FAILED EXHAUST VALVE AFTER INSPECTION, CAR LOST ALL POWER AND WAS IMMOBILE AFTER ROLLING TO A STOP. THE 7 AND 8 CYLINDER ON THE BLOCK WERE COMPLETELY VENTILATED. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2006-2011 CORVETTES AND MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE.WHAT HAPPENS IS THE HEAD OF THE EXHAUST VALVE FALLS OFF AND THEN IT MAKES CONTACT WITH THE PISTON AND TAKES OUT THE BLOCK AND PISTON AND RODS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS AS THERE IS SEVERAL HUNDRED OR MORE Z06 EQUIPPED WITH THE LS7 MOTOR THAT HAS HAD THE SAME ISSUE. IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND IMHO THERE SHOULD BE SOME KIND OF RECALL ON THESE MOTORS. *TR
THE LURCH DROPS TO THE FLOOR UNDER ACCELERATION, HAPPENS FROM A STOP AND UNDER MOST ANY SPEED. THIS CAUSES DAMAGE TO THE CLUTCH CAUSING A STRONG SMELL OF BURNT CLUTCH. DEALERS SAY I AM ABUSING THE CAR EVEN THOUGH THIS HAPPENS SOMETIMES UNDER NORMAL DRIVING. WHEN THE CLUTCH DROPS TO THE FLOOR YOU CAN NOT SHIFT, ACCURATE, OF DISENGAGE THE CLUTCH TO PREVENT DAMAGE. ( DAMAGED CLUTCH CAUSES CHATTER AND SLIPPAGE RESULTING IN THE DEALER SAYING THE CLUTCH NEEDS TO BE REPLACED) AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET I FOUND MANY PEOPLE WERE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. FROM WHAT I CAN GATHER IT IS CAUSE BY A DESIGN FLAW THAT LETS THE CLUTCH FLUID DIRTY OVER TIME. IN THE MANUAL, IT STATS THAT THE CLUTCH GUILD DOES NOT NEED TO BE CHECK REGULARLY. I HAVE READ THAT THIS ISSUE AFFECT NEWER CORVETTES AS WELL. *TR
APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO, MY 2006 CORVETTE STARTED SHOWING THREE MESSAGES: SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING/SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL/SERVICE ABS. I WAS GOING TO HAVE THE DEALER TAKE A LOOK AT THE VEHICLE, BUT THEN THE MESSAGES WENT AWAY. THEY WOULD COME ON AND OFF, BUT IT WAS NOT A VERY FREQUENT OCCURRENCE. YESTERDAY, 07/28/2013, NOT ONLY DID THE MESSAGES APPEAR, BUT MY ABS KICKED IN WHILE GOING AROUND A CORNER AND I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE. I SHUT DOWN THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT, BUT ALL THREE MESSAGES CAME BACK ON WITHIN 30 SECONDS OF DRIVING IT. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY 2006 CORVETTE WITH ONLY 40,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
LOW BEAM OPERATION IS INTERMITTENT, HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR SOME TIME OVER THE PAST YEARS, NEVER RESOLVED CAUSE AS LOW BEAMS ALWAYS WORKED WHEN VEHICLE WAS AT DEALERSHIP, DID NOT RELATE TO CAR BEING HOT OR COLD. *TR
CONCERNING NHTSA RECALL #S 09V49100 OR 06V181000 ROOF PANEL FAILURE ON 2006 CORVETTE COUP. I INQUIRED WITH LOCAL CHEVY DEALERS ON THIS RECALL BECAUSE MY ROOF WAS PRODUCING SYMPTOMS AS INDICATED IN THE ABOVE RECALLS, SPECIFICALLY WIND NOISE IN THE CABIN COCKPIT. WAS TOLD BY LOCAL CHEVY DEALER THAT MY CAR WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR RECALL AS IT WAS SOLD WITH A TRANSPARENT TOP AND NOT THE SOLID ROOF TOP WHICH IS ON IT NOW. (I BOUGHT THE CAR USED) HOWEVER LOCAL CHEVY DEALERS SAY THAT THEY DON'T KNOW OF ANY AFTER MARKET ROOFS, BUT THE ONLY WAY TO TELL IS TO TAKE OFF THE HEADLINER AND THEN THEY CAN SEE IF IT WAS MANUFACTURED BY GM/CHEVY. I INDICATED TO CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT I WOULD BE WILLING TO PAY TO REMOVE AND REPLACE THE HEADLINER, HOWEVER CHEVY SAYS THEY WON'T HONOR THE RECALL EVEN IF IT IS A GM ROOF. I THEN WROTE A LETTER TO THE CHAIRMAN OF GM AND HIS ASSISTANT SAYS BASICALLY THE SAME THING AND WON'T PUT IT IN WRITING, SO THEY SEEM TO BE RELUCTANT TO FIX THE ROOF IF IT IS A GM PRODUCT. MY QUESTION TO NHTSA IS "IF THE ROOF IS A GM PRODUCT, WHY WOULDN'T IT BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL?" *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE BRAKES ENGAGED INDEPENDENTLY AS THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE TIRE SEIZED. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SWAY ABNORMALLY FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM WARNING MESSAGE WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V172000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
FAINT FUEL ODOR AFTER SHUTTING CAR OFF AND HOUSING IT IN THE GARAGE. FUEL VAPOR OR VERY SMALL LINK FROM GAS TANK IS SUSPECTED. OTHER OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED OF SIMILAR PROBLEM ON THE CORVETTE FORUM. *TR
THE RED AIRBAG / SRS INDICATOR WILL INTERMITTENTLY DISPLAY ON THE DASH (THIS BEGAN APPROXIMATELY 2 YEARS AGO). INITIAL DISPLAYS WOULD RESET UPON CYCLING THE IGNITION. THE DISPLAY HAS NOW BEEN ON FOR THREE DAYS AND HAS NOT RESET. THE DEALER ONLY SPECULATES AS TO THE PROBLEM AND IT HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. AUTOMOTIVE FORUMS INDICATE THAT THIS IS A CHRONIC AND ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR VEHICLE. THE CONCERN IS THAT THE SRS SYSTEM IS NON-FUNCTIONAL DURING THESE INTERMITTENT TIMES AND PRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT DRIVER SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
I RARELY DRIVE MY CORVETTE AT NIGHT,BUT ON AT LEAST TWO OCCASIONS ONE OF MY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULBS HAS FAILED TO OPERATE. THE HIGH BEAM BULBS WILL OPERATE. AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT I REPLACED THE LOW BEAM BULBS. AFTER THE SECOND FAILURE I CHECKED THE LOW BEAM BULBS THE FOLLOWING MORNING AND THEY BOTH WORKED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE DASHBOARD AND DOOR PANELS WERE DEVELOPING A WHITE RESIDUE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND THE TECHNICIANS MADE THE MANUFACTURER AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT HE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE DASHBOARD AND DOOR PANELS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,500.
RED AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ON DASHBOARD COMES ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE LEARNED THAT WHEN THE RED LIGHT IS ON, THE SRS (SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM, I.E. AIRBAG) IS NOT ACTIVE. THIS IS A CLEAR SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF AND WILL NOT TURN BACK ON. THE HIGH BEAMS WILL COME ON, THE FOG LIGHTS WORK. LOW BEAMS WILL NOT WORK IN AUTO MODE, OR MANUAL. TESTED DASH BOARD SENSOR, WORKS CORRECTLY, CHANGED LOW BEAM MINI RELAY AND FUSES, TWICE, PROBLEM REMAINS UNRESOLVED. CAN SOMETIMES LEAVE CAR PARKED OVERNIGHT, COME OUT AND LOW BEAMS ARE WORKING AGAIN. NEVER KNOW WHEN THEY WILL WORK AND WHEN THEY WON'T. WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE THE OTHER DAY AND LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING, WAS UNABLE TO SEE. HAD TO DRIVE WITH HIGH BEAMS, OTHER DRIVERS ON ROADWAY WERE NOT HAPPY ABOUT IT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. TOOK TO DEALER, LOW BEAMS WERE WORKING AT THE TIME AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE BECAUSE PROBLEM WAS NOT PRESENT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS THERE. *TT
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM YOU ARE INVESTIGATING WHEN THE CAR WARMS UP I HAVE NO LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, THE CLUTCH PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WILLIAMS CHEVROLET (2 AUTOMOTIVE BLVD, ELKTON, MD 21921) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLUTCH PLATE, PRESSURE PLATE, AND SLAVE CYLINDER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A STORAGE FACILITY. THE CONTACT DID NOT CONTACT OR TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER OR MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE CONTACT SHOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER AND HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,229 FOR THE FIRST FAILURE AND 24,000 FOR THE SECOND FAILURE.

I OWN A 2006 CORVETTE AND WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 270 IN GERMANTOWN, MD THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL OF THE CAR LOCKED UP FOR NO REASON. I WAS NOT BRAKING TURNING OR CHANGING SPEED. I WAS CRUISING AT A CONSTANT 60 MPH WHEN IT ALL OF A SUDDEN LOCKED UP THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL. IT CAUSED THE CAR TO RUN OFF THE ROAD INTO THE SHOULDER! WHILE DRIVING, AT NIGHT, BOTH LOW-BEAM HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY AND COULD NOT BE SWITCHED BACK ON. I USED THE FOG LIGHTS TO DRIVE HOME ON SURFACE STREETS. I LATER DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS AN INTERMITTENT CONNECTION IN CIRCUIT NO. 1970, WITHIN THE MAIN FUSE/RELAY BACKPLANE ITSELF. THE CIRCUIT OPENS AT OPERATING TEMPERATURES, BUT WORKS WHEN THE CAR FUSE BOX IS COLD, MAKING DIAGNOSIS MORE DIFFICULT. THE BACKPLANE CANNOT BE SERVICED AND MUST BE REPLACED.

I PURCHASED A 2006 CORVETTE IN JUNE OF 2010. ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED. I WAS SITTING AT A LIGHT, WHEN TO TURN LEFT AND FRONT TIRES LOCKED UP. PUSHED THE CLUTCH IN SEVERAL TIMES BUT TIRES STILL LOCKED UP. TURNED OFF THE ACTIVE HANDLING .. CHOSE COMP DRIVE MODE, PROBLEM WENT AWAY. SEVERAL TIMES LATELY THE PUSH BUTTON START DOES NOT START THE ENGINE, EVERYTHING ELSE COMES ON BUT NOTHING FROM THE ENGINE. WE HAD A 2006 CORVETTE ON OUR CAR LOT. IT HAD A DEAD BATTERY WHEN WE GOT IT. WE PUT IN A NEW BATTERY AND TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL GM DEALER TO HAVE THE DOOR LOCKS REPROGRAMMED. IT SAT THERE FOR MONTHS, AND THE BATTERY WOULD OFTEN GO DEAD, BECAUSE AS I UNDERSTAND IT, THE ELECTRONICS DRAIN THE BATTERIES IN THOSE CARS WHILE THEY SIT, SHUT OFF. ONE DAY WE WENT TO JUMP THE BATTERY, AND I CRAWLED INTO THE TRUNK WITH THE ONLY KEY TO THE CAR, WHICH FIT UNDER THE TRUNK, BECAUSE THE DOORS WOULDN'T OPEN WITH THE REMOTE. AFTER THE JUMP I MOVED THE CAR INTO ANOTHER PARKING SPOT, AND FOUND THAT I COULDN'T GET OUT. I HAPPENED TO KNOW ABOUT THE CABLE FOR THE DOOR LOCATED IN THE BACK OF THE TRUNK, SO I DOVE INTO THE TRUNK AND PULLED IT, BUT IT DIDN'T WORK. I THEN TRIED THE SUNROOF SWITCH, OR WHAT I THOUGHT WAS THE SUNROOF SWITCH TO NO AVAIL. I WENT BACK TO THE TRUNK AND FOUND A TRUNK RELEASE THAT POPPED THE BACK HATCH. IT WORKED. I DID NOT TEST EVERY SYSTEM IN THE CAR. THE CAR WAS RUNNING, SO IT'S POSSIBLE THAT THE LOW VOLTAGE PROBLEM MIGHT HAVE CLEARED UP ON IT'S OWN. BUT I WONDER, WHAT IF I WOULD HAVE SHUT OFF THE CAR? WHAT IF NOBODY KNEW I WAS THERE? WHAT IF THE CAR WAS ON FIRE OR IN WATER? WHAT IF I WAS SICK, DISABLED, OR INJURED, AND COULDN'T GET TO THE LEVER IN THE BACK SEAT? WHAT IF IT WAS AN EXTREMELY HOT DAY? WHAT IF I DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING AVAILABLE TO BREAK OUT A WINDOW? THE KEY TO THE TRUNK AND THE REMOTE WERE LOCKED IN THE CAR WITH ME. THE PERSON ON THE OUTSIDE STOOD THERE HELPLESS. SO, I GOOGLED "TRAPPED IN A CORVETTE WITH ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCKS", AND FOUND THAT IT HAS HAPPENED TO OTHERS, INCLUDING A SIX YEAR OLD.
