2006 CORVETTE DEAD BATTERY SYNDROME. CAR AFTER SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY FOR MORE THAN 7 DAYS WILL NOT START IN THE COLD WEATHER(UNDER 45 DEGREE). BRING IT TO THE DEALER THEY CHARGED THE BATTERY AND CANNOT REPRODUCE THE ISSUE. IT HAPPENS MORE THAN 3 TIMES ALREADY. SOMETIME I HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. *TR
THERE IS 2 RECALLS ON MY 06 Z06 WHICH WAS BUILT IN 11/05. ! IS THE ROOF COMING OFF AND THE OTHER IS THE STEERING WHEEL POISONING SENSOR. I WAS IS CONTACT WITH THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER : 10V172000 ON THIS. GM AND MY DEALER KEEPS TELLING ME MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRENTY. THIS ISN'T WARRANTY AND MY CAR HAS BOTH PROBLEMS AND THE DEALER HAS BEEN TOLD FOR 2 YRS ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS. *TR

THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALER NOR HAD IT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 17,000. FREQUENTLY SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING INDICATOR COMES ON AND STABILITY CONTROL IS DISABLED. HAS BEEN TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE PAST 5 YEARS, BUT PROBLEM HAS NEVER BEEN FIXED BY DEALER. THE LAST 2 TIMES THIS HAPPENED A FRONT WHEEL LOCKED UP FOR A FEW SECONDS CAUSING CAR TO ABRUPTLY SWERVE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE REMOVABLE ROOF DISENGAGED AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO POLICE REPORT FILED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 15,442 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE DRIVING AT A MODERATE SPEED, THE ROOF PANEL DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE OUTER SHELL WAS SEPARATED FROM THE INSIDE. THE CONTACT HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY KEEP REPLACING THE ROOF PANEL. HE STATED THAT HE WOULD LIKE TO REPLACE HIS ROOFTOP WITH A DIFFERENT MODEL THAT GM MANUFACTURES, BUT THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD ONLY REPLACE IT WITH AN IDENTICAL ROOFTOP. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 16,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE COUPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ROOF PANEL SEPARATED NEAR THE REAR LATCH ATTACHMENT. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V491000 (STRUCTURE). THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE STRIKER ADJUSTER WOULD NEED TO BE REDESIGNED IN ORDER TO INSTALL THE NEW ROOF PANEL. THE CONTACT WAS DISPLEASED WITH THE REMEDY BECAUSE THE NEW ROOF PANEL WOULD NOT FIT PROPERLY WITH THE ADDITIONAL REPAIRS REQUIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000. UPDATED 08/27/13 LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE NARRATIVE WAS WRONG AND HE REQUESTED TO HAVE THE COMPLAINT CANCELLED.
ATTENTION NEEDED!! ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM VERY DANGEROUS FAILURE MODE!!! DRIVING AT 50MPH THE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM SUDDENLY (AND VERY VIOLENTLY) LOCKS UP BOTH FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER WHEELS, BRINGING THE CAR TO A HALT WHILE THROWING THE VEHICLE TO THE LEFT LANE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID SINCE THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE EVENT OR FIND A COMPUTER CODE TO VERIFY, THEN CAN DO NOTHING TO HELP ME. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS FAILURE MODE!! VERY EASILY I COULD HAVE KILLED A PEDESTRIAN / MOTORCYCLIST IN THE LANE TO MY LEFT!!! *TR
TOOK THE CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WHEN I PICKED IT UP, THEY ADDED 2 QUARTS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID TO THE CAR. DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT AND LEFT. 5000 MILES LATER, WHILE ENTERING THE FREEWAY, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR STALLED. WENT FROM 45 MPH DOWN TO 5-10 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND I WAS ABOUT 3 SECONDS AWAY FROM BEING REAR ENDED BY AN 18 WHEELER. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND I ADVISED THEM TO CALL ME WITH THE DIAGNOSIS. THEY CALLED AND SAID MY TRANSMISSION SOLENOID WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE CHANGE. I THOUGHT ABOUT THE 2 QUARTS OF FLUID AND THOUGHT TO MYSELF, WHY WAS IT LOW AND DID THIS CAUSE THE BREAKDOWN? I CALLED AND TOLD THEM NOT TO TOUCH THE CAR UNTIL I WAS PRESENT. WENT TO DEALER, THE 32 YEAR EXPERIENCED TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST CHECKED THE LEVEL OF FLUID AND "OH MY GOD, IT IS VERY LOW AGAIN". I HAD THEIR SERVICE MANAGER COME AND TOLD HIM I WANTED A GM REP TO INSPECT MY CAR BEFORE ANY REPAIRS WHERE DONE TO IT AND THAT HE DID NOT HAVE MY CONSENT TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. 8 DAYS LATER THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLS AND SAYS "I FIXED YOUR CAR, THE FLUID WAS NEVER LOW AND COME PICK UP YOUR CAR OR I WILL CHARGE YOU STORAGE AND RENTAL IF YOU DON'T". I CALLED GM AND THEM TALK TO THIS GUY AND BEG HIM TO LEAVE THE CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP UNTIL A REP WAS AVAILABLE, AND HE SAID " NO WAY, I WANT THIS CAR OUT OF HERE. SO I GO TO PICK UP THE CAR AND NOTICED THE REPAIR INVOICE DID NOT INDICATE THE FLUID WAS LOW AND I ASKED HIM TO FIX IT AND HE REFUSED AND SAID THE 32 YEAR GM TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST MADE A MISTAKE AND NEEDED TO CHECK THE MANUAL ON HOW TO CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL. HE THEN OFFERED ME AND EXTENDED WARRANTY AND AGREED TO SAY ON THE INVOICE THAT THE FLUID LEVEL WAS LOW. TO DATE NO ONE CAN TELL ME WHY THE FLUID WAS LOW THE FIRST TIME OR THE SECOND TIME. THE DEALERS ONLY EXPLANATION IS THAT THE CAR CAME FROM THE MANUFACTURER MISSING 2 QUARTS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID. CONTACTED GM AND BBB AND JUST WENT TO ARBITRATION AND WAITING FOR VERDICT. *JB
2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 OIL LINE RELATED ENGINE FIRE CUSTOMER STATES THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN PROBLEM**CC THE CONSUMER STATED ON JUNE 8, 2007 HIS NEW CAR SUSTAINED A 3 POINT ENGINE FIRE RELATED TO AN ENGINE OIL LINE DEFECT. THE CONSUMER HE STATED WAS ACCOMPANIED BY EXPERIENCED GM CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO ASSESSED FOR UNRELATED REPAIRS AND WARRANTY WORK. THE CONSUMER STATED THE MECHANIC MADE AN ANALYSIS AS TO WHAT CAUSED THE FIRE. ANALYSIS REVEALED A DEFECTIVE OIL LINE AT THE CRIMPED- ON RUBBER HOSE TO METAL INTERFACE WHICH CONDUCTS OIL TO AN EXTERNAL COOLER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE (THE CAMPAIGN NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE). HE STATED THAT THE ROOF DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE AND STRUCK HIS SON ON THE HEAD. THE ROOF THEN LANDED IN A FIELD ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER IN DECEMBER OF 2006. THE DEALER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG, HOWEVER THEY STATED THAT IF A FAILURE WAS FOUND, THEY WOULD REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER, IF THE CONTACT WERE TO CLAIM MEDICAL EXPENSES, THEY WOULD NOT OFFER HIM ANY ASSISTANCE. HE NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER WHO ALSO DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE STATE'S ATTORNEY'S GENERAL OFFICE WHO PROVIDED FURTHER INFORMATION REGARDING THE RECALL PERTAINING TO THE ROOF FAILURE. HE STATED THAT HIS SON SUFFERS FROM SEVERE NECK INJURIES. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 12,500.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE DRIVING 15-20 MPH, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT INTO SECOND GEAR. THE FAILURE FORCED HIM TO SHIFT INTO FOURTH GEAR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED IN THAT MANNER FOR CAF REASONS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD BE UNABLE TO MAKE ANY REPAIRS. THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT HE COULD INSTALL AN AFTERMARKET PART TO REMEDY THE FAILURE, BUT THE CONTACT REFUSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,300. UPDATED 09/05/07 *TR
MY 2006 Z06 HAS HAD THIS SAME RECURRING "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM" FAULT ALMOST LIKE CLOCKWORK EVERY 9 TO 15 MONTHS SINCE I BOUGHT IT NEW IN SEPT 2005 (ONE OF THE FIRST Z06S BUILT). MY Z06 IS AT A CHEVY DEALERSHIP AGAIN, THIS TIME GETTING THE STEERING WHEEL SENSOR REPLACED AGAIN. NO ITS NOT THE DEALER... I'VE HAD SEVERAL "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM" REPAIRS DONE BY AT LEAST TWO DIFFERENT CHEVY DEALERS AND IT STILL COMES BACK LIKE A BAD CASE OF HERPES. MY Z06 IS A 2LZ WHICH HAS THE TELESCOPING STEERING WHEEL TO MAKE IT EASIER FOR MY LANKY 190 LB 6'3" BODY TO GET IN AND OUT EASIER WHEN I HAVE TO PARK IN MY TIGHT GARAGE OR NEXT TO A PARKED CAR. THIS CYCLES THE STEERING WHEEL FORWARD EVERY TIME I EXIT THE CAR AND BACK TOWARDS ME AGAIN BEFORE I START THE ENGINE... WHICH FROM MY READING SEEMS TO BE CAUSING THIS ONGOING PROBLEM. WHAT'S WRONG IS THIS DANGEROUS SAFETY PROBLEM DOESN'T SEEM TO EVER GET FIXED FOR MORE THAN A YEAR. WHAT CAN I DO TO GET GM TO FIX IT OR WARRANTY THIS SAFETY RELATED ITEM PERMANENTLY SO I DON'T GET STUCK HAVING TO DEAL WITH THIS DANGEROUS SAFETY CONDITION FOREVER? NHTSA HAS INCORRECTLY CLOSED YOUR NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: EA09002 OF THIS ISSUE BASED ON GM'S RECALL... BUT GM DID NOT INCLUDE MY 2006 CORVETTE Z06 IN THEIR RECALL EVEN THOUGH IT USES THE EXACT SAME TELESCOPIN STEERING WHEEL AND ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM AS THE "BASE" CORVETTE WHICH IS INCLUDED IN GM'S RECALL. NHTSA NEEDS TO FORCE GM TO INCLUDE THE Z06 IN THEIR RECALL... THE DEALER STATED THAT EVERY OTHER CORVETTE WAS AFFECTED AND THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT. THEY DID NOT SPECIFY THAT THIS WAS RELATED TO ANY RECALLS. TL* - THE CONTACT RECEIVED NHTSA RECALL 06V181000 ON 11/30/06. THE CONTACT TOOK VEHICLE TO R K CHEVROLET AT 502 N. DELSEA DR. VINELAND, NJ. WITH PHONE # 609-696-8400, AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WILL NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INFORMED THE OWNER OF THE RECALL , BUT THE OWNER WAS AWARE OF THE RECALL. HOWEVER, HE DID INFORM THE CONTACT THAT HE DID NOT HAVE TO REPAIR ANYONE'S VEHICLE THAT HE DIDN'T WANT TO REPAIR. THE CONTACT TRIED TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER, BUT ONLY GOT THE VOICE MAIL. CAR WOULD NOT START AFTER SETTING 4 DAYS IN MY GARAGE. CHARGED THE BATTERY AND CAR WOULD NOT START AFTER TWO DAYS SETTING IN MY GARAGE. CHARGED THE BATTERY AGAIN AND CAR WOULD NOT START AFTER SETTING TWO DAYS IN MY GARAGE. GM HAD INSTALLED A NEW BATTERY JUST 400 MILES AGO. APPEARS TO BE EXCESSIVE BATTERY DRAIN. TOOK IT IN TO DEALER AND THEY REPLACED A MODULE IN THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. WENT TO PICK UP THE CAR AND WHEN I TRIED TO START THE CAR, THE BATTERY WAS DEAD AGAIN. DEALER INSTALLED ANOTHER NEW BATTERY. HAVE NOT HAD A CHANCE TO USE THE CAR (2006 Z06) SINCE THE DEALERSHIP VISIT JANUARY 18, 2007, DUE TO WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS. *JB
OWN A 2006 CHEVY CORVETTE. ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS STARTED AFTER 5 MONTHS OF OWNING IT AND HAVE CONTINUED TO DATE. IT HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP MORE THEN AT OUR HOME. IT HAS BEEN TOWED IN 8 TIMES FOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. VEHICLE GOES COMPLETELY DEAD. DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED THE BATTERY 3 TIMES AND THE VEHICLE STILL IS DEAD. DROVE TO WORK WITHIN 4 HOURS THE VEHICLE COULDN'T RETURN HOME. DEALER SWORE IT WAS FIX ON 5/29/2008 AT 3:30 BUT BY 4PM THE DEALERSHIP CALLED THE VEHICLE WAS DEAD. THEY HAVE REPLACED COMPUTER MODULES, BRAKES SWITCHES AND BATTERIES. CAR WENT INTO THE SHOP ON 5/5/2008 AND STILL IS IN THE SHOP ON 5/30/08. PROBLEM STARTED WITHIN 5 MONTHS OF BUYING THE VEHICLE. NOW WE OWN A VEHICLE THE HAS BEEN TOWED IN DEAD 8 TIMES, IN THE SHOP FOR OVER 45 DAYS TOTAL AND STILL DEAD AND STILL NO RESOLUTION. *TR
RE: CURRENT INVESTIGATION NUMBER EA09-002. MULTIPLE INCIDENTS OF "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING" MESSAGE ABOUT ONCE A MONTH. TOOK TO DEALER IN 2012, REPLACED STEERING ANGLE SENSOR - CHEVY SUPPOSEDLY PAID PART, CHARGED ME $400. PROBLEM IS STARTING TO OCCUR AGAIN. THIS VEHICLE WAS MADE IN MARCH 2006 AND WAS OUTSIDE THE RECALL VIN RANGE. LUCKILY NO HANDLING ISSUES. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE CENTER OF THE ROOF CAME APART WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH. THE FIBERGLASS RAISED UP AND THE ADHESIVE WAS MISSING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THAT THE ROOF NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, HOWEVER IT WOULD ONLY BE A TEMPORARY REPAIR. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL # 06V181000 PERTAINING TO THE ROOF AND PILLARS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE AT AROUND 50 MPH, AND THE PAINTED ROOF SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND TOOK THE ROOF OFF, AND WENT TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP. THEY INFORMED ME THERE WAS A RECALL, BUT IT WAS USUALLY A VOLUNTARY RECALL FOR YOU TO GO IN AND HAVE IT INSPECTED, AND IF IT CHECKED OUT TO BE BAD, THEY WOULD FIX IT. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THEY COULDN'T GET A ROOF PANEL FOR THIS CAR FOR 20-30 DAYS AND THAT THEY WOULD GIVE ME LOANER AND I COULD LEAVE THE CAR THERE. I AM OUT OF TOWN ON BUSINESS, AND WILL NOT BE HERE FOR 20- 30 DAYS, AND MY OPINION WOULD BE THAT IF THE DEALERS KNOW THERE IS A RECALL, THERE SHOULD BE PLENTY OF PANELS AVAILABLE IF THE ROOF IS UNDER RECALL. I ALSO BELIEVE THEY SHOULD REPLACE ALL THESE PANELS ON ALL VIN NUMBERS AFFECTED. THE ROOF PANEL COMING LOOSE AND FLYING OFF AND EITHER DAMAGING MY VEHICLE, OR EVEN WORSE, CAUSING A LOSS OF LIFE TO SOMEONE IN THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME WOULD BE TRAGIC. CHEVROLET SHOULD OWN UP TO THEIR ERRORS AND FIX THE PROBLEM PROPERLY, NOT BY REPAIRING THE PANELS THAT WERE DEFECTIVE. THEY SHOULD BE REPLACED. *NM
ROOF DELAMINATION ON 2006 CORVETTE Z06. IT HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY AND ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. GM MUST RECALL ALL CORVETTES AND FIX THE PROBLEM!! *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE HAD A RECURRING FAILURE WITH THE STABILITY CONTROL IMMEDIATELY AFTER 6,500 MILES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THE FAILURE, NUMEROUS TIMES BUT THE DEALER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS NORMAL; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE BECAME SEVERE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,750.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE HARDTOP ROOF PANEL FLEW OFF. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ROOF PANEL UNDER WARRANTY. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE ROOF PANEL FLEW OFF AGAIN AND PUSHED THE HEADLINER DOWN. THE VEHICLE SWERVED INTO A CURB AND ALL FOUR RIMS WERE DAMAGED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V181000 (STRUCTURE:BODY:ROOF AND PILLARS). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,000. SHORTLY AFTER DELIVERY IN JAN. 2006, MY 2006 C6 CORVETTE COUPE REMOVABLE TOP STARTED MAKING CREAKING AND POPPING NOISES. AS IT BEGAN TO BE MORE FREQUENT AND NOISY, I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR WARRANTY SERVICE. THE DEALER ADJUSTED THE TOP HOLD DOWN CLAMPS. FOR AWHILE, IT APPEARED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. HOWEVER, THE TOP HAS STARTED MAKING THE SAME NOISES AGAIN. NOW, I FIND THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE TOP. *JB
2006 CORVETTE COUPE TOP DEFECT REPORT. THE BONDING OF THE SHELL SKIN TO THE FRAME OF MY CORVETTES PORTABLE PAINTED TOP CAME LOOSE AND NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ABLE TO GRAB THE SHELL AND BRING THE CAR TO A CONTROLLED STOP. THE DEALER TOLD ME MY CAR WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST, BUT THEY WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. I ALSO HAVE A CLEAR TENTED TOP THAT MAY HAVE THE SAME DEFECT, BUT THEY HAVE NOT RESPONDED TO MY REQUEST TO DETERMINE IF THE DEFECT EXISTS IN THE CLEAR TENTED TOP. I DO NOT WANT TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR A DEATH ON THE HIGHWAY, SO I WILL DRIVE THE CAR ONLY ON LOW SPEED ROADS UNTIL THE CHEVY DEALER GETS ME AN ANSWER ON THE CONDITION OF THIS CLEAR TOP. GM SHOULD GO ON REPORT SINCE GM FAILED TO REALIZE THE TOP ASSEMBLY BONDING DEFECT EXTENDS INTO THEIR LATER BUILT CARS. DATE OF PURCHASE 2/2006. *NM
ROOF PANELS ON 2005 & 2006 CHEVROLET COUPES COME LOOSE FROM THE ROOF FRAME AND MAY FLY OFF THE VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SPEED. MY PANEL CAME LOOSE BUT DID NOT FLY OFF. GM / CHEVROLET HAS PARTS BACK ORDERED 90 DAYS AND IS ONLY ABLE TO PROVIDE A TEMPORARY FIX WITH NO GUARANTEE OF ADEQUACY. *NM

WE CONTACTED GMAC THE PERSON WE SPOKE WITH SAID YES THIS CAR WASN'T RECALLED BUT, YOUR STILL UNDER WARRANTY SO YOU WON'T HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING. I OWN A NEW 2006 CORVETTE COUPE. ON JULY 5TH I BEGAN TO DEVELOP A CREAKING SOUND NEAR THE ROOF FRAME AND I BEGAN TO NOTICE WIND NOISE AT 60 MPH. ON JULY 7TH, MY PAINTED (VICTORY RED) ROOF PANEL SEPARATED FROM IT'S FRAME. FORTUNATELY IT DID NOT BLOW OFF WHILE DRIVING AND NO ONE WAS HURT. THE FACT THAT GM IS/HAS BEEN AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR ALL '05/'06 COUPES IS UNBELIEVABLE. MY DEALER HAS BEEN GREAT TO WORK WITH BUT HIS HANDS ARE TIED BY GM. THE PAINTED ROOFS ARE BACKORDERED UNTIL LATE AUGUST AND NO ALTERNATIVE WAS OFFERED BY GM. IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO USE MY $50K CAR, IT WAS NECESSARY FOR ME TO PURCHASE A TRANSPARENT ROOF. I PURCHASED A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR AND HAVE BEEN HEARING THERE WAS GOING TO BE A SAFETY RECALL ON THE REMOVABLE TOPS. THERE HAVE BEEN SOME INSTANCES OF THE TOPS FLYING OFF OF THE CARS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. MY CARS TOP HAS COME COMPLETELY OFF AND IS UNDRIVABLE. I AM CURRENTLY WORKING WITH GM AND MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO GET THIS RESOLVED BUT ALL I AM GETTING IS BACK TALK FROM THE GM REPRESENTATIVE. ALL I DID TO GET MY TOP TO COME OFF WAS SHUT THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR ONE DAY AND IT POPPED UP AND ALMOST FELL OFF. WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 45 MPH I HEARD A POPPING SOUND AND THEN WIND NOISE. I THEN SAW LIGHT COMING THROUGH BETWEEN THE WINDSHIELD AND TOP. THE TOP HAD DELAMINATED FROM THE DRIVER SIDE ACROSS THE FRONT AND ABOUT 3/4TH OF THE PASSENGER SIDE. I HAVE BOTH TOPS FOR THIS CAR ( THE PAINTED TOP AND THE CLEAR TOP )IT WAS THE PAINTED TOP THAT DELAMINATED. I REMOVED THE PAINTED TOP AND PUT ON THE CLEAR TOP. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE ORDERED A NEW TOP FOR THE CAR. IF I HAD BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AND DRIVING AT THE 65 MPH SPEED LIMIT THE TOP WOULD PROBABLY HAVE BLOWN OFF THE CAR AND POSSIBLY HIT ANOTHER CAR OR CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE DEALER HAS BEEN VERY HELPFUL AND IS TRYING TO GET THE LATEST,IMPROVED TOP FOR ME. *NM
I HEARD CRACKING AND POPPING OF THE PAINTED ROOF OF MY 2006 CORVETTE ABOUT 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE WHOLE ROOF RIPPING OFF AT ONLY 50 MPH. IN BETWEEN THAT TIME THE CAR WAS ONLY DRIVEN 3 TIMES AND THE TIME BEFORE IT ACTUALLY RIPPED OFF. I TURNED AROUND AND BROUGHT IT HOME HALFWAY TO MY DESTINATION BECAUSE I DID NOT FEEL SAFE. THE MORNING IT DID COME OFF I WAS TAKING IT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED. IT CAME OFF ON THE ROAD I LIVE ON THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME. *JB
FOR WEEKS PRIOR TO FAILURE, I HAD HEARD POPPING SOUNDS AROUND THE PAINTED REMOVABLE ROOF THAT I THOUGHT WERE DUE TO THE FRAME CREAKING. ON THE DATE THE ROOF FLEW OFF, I HAD PARKED THE CAR AT WORK AND IT WAS OVER 100 DEGREES OUTSIDE. I LEFT THE PARKING LOT, TURNED ONTO A SHORT STREET, AND STOPPED AT A LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I TURNED LEFT AND THE ROOF FLEW OFF AT ABOUT 25 MPH. IT LANDED IN THE LEFT-TURN LANE OF OPPOSITE TRAFFIC. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE A U-TURN AND RETRIEVE THE TOP WITHOUT ANYONE HITTING IT. I'VE TALKED TO THE DEALER AND GM CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE AND GET DIFFERENT STORIES. THE DEALER INITIALLY SAID THEY COULD NOT ORDER A NEW PART BECAUSE THEY WERE BACK-LOGGED. THEN GM CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE SAID THAT THE COULDN'T PROVIDE A REPLACEMENT BECAUSE A NEW ROOF WAS BEING DESIGNED AND WOULDN'T BE READY FOR 4-6 WEEKS, AROUND SOMETIME IN AUGUST. TODAY, THE DEALER SAID THAT THEY WERE GOING TO ORDER A NEW ROOF, HAVE IT PAINTED, AND USE THAT AS A REPLACEMENT. I TOLD THEM THAT I WAS CONCERNED BECAUSE I HAD READ ON A CORVETTE FORUM WHERE SOME REPAIRED ROOFS HAVE ALSO SEPARATED/DE-LAMINATED IN ADDITION TO THE REPAIR OFTEN LEAVING UGLY GLUE RESIDUE ON THE TOPS. BUT MOSTLY, I AM HESITANT TO ACCEPT A CURRENT ROOF DUE TO LIABILITY CONCERNS SHOULD ANOTHER ROOF SEPARATE FROM THE CAR AND INJURE ANOTHER DRIVER...ESPECIALLY A MOTORCYCLE RIDER. SINCE I AM GETTING DIFFERENT RESOLUTIONS FROM THE DEALER AND CUSTOMER SERVICE, I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. HOWEVER, I DID TELL THE DEALER OF MY CONCERNS OF A NEW ROOF SEPARATING AND THAT I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO ACCEPT ANYTHING BUT A REDESIGNED ROOF. THEY INDICATED THAT AT LEAST I WOULD HAVE A ROOF IN PLACE AND BE ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR. THEY WEREN'T SURE IF THEY COULD ACTUALLY ORDER ONE OR NOT, BUT FELT THAT THEY COULD AND THAT CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS WRONG IS SAYING THAT ONLY REDESIGNED ROOFS COULD BE ORDERED. *JB
WHEN THE AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE IS OVER 95 DEGREES THE FOLLOWING ELECTRICAL GREMLINS OCCUR ON MY 2006 CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE. 1. WHEN THE MEMORY BUTTON ON THE DOOR IS PRESSED, THE STEERING WHEEL WILL GO TO ITS PRESET POSITION. THE SEAT DOES NOT MOVE. THIS HAPPENS ABOUT 85% OF THE TIME. DOES NOT HAPPEN WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE IS BELOW 80 DEGREES. 2. WITH THE CAR RUNNING, AC AND RADIO ON, IF THE MEMORY BUTTON ON THE DOOR IS PRESSED, THE RADIO WILL TURN OFF ALONG WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. MOST TIMES THE RADIO WILL COME BACK ON WITHIN A MINUTE. THE AC MUST BE TURNED ON WITH THE AC CONTROL BUTTONS. *TR

2006 CORVETTE COUPE, ROOF DELAMINATING PROBLEM. *JB
THIS COMPLAINT IS ABOUT A 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE COUPE WITH A PAINTED ROOF. MY ROOF HAD STARTED MAKING NOISES ABOUT 3 WEEKS PRIOR TO MY COMPLAINT. SHORTLY AFTER I HAD NOTICED THAT THE REAR PART OF THE PLASTIC ROOF HAD COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE METAL FRAME TO WHICH IT WAS GLUED. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE DEALER FOR ACTION AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD ORDER A NEW ROOF, BUT THAT IT WOULD TAKE 4-5 WEEKS TO GET THE NEW TOP AND THAT IT WOULD TAKE ANOTHER WEEK OR SO TO GET IT PAINTED TO MATCH MY CAR. I INFORMED THEM THAT THERE WAS A DANGER OF THE ROOF POSSIBLY FLYING OFF TO WHICH THEY REPLIED "JUST GO AHEAD AND DRIVE IT, WE HAVEN'T HEARD OF ANYTHING LIKE THAT AND WE'VE SEE MUCH WORSE THAN YOURS" RELUCTANTLY AND WITHOUT CHOICE I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP AND TOOK THE CAR HOME WHERE IT WOULD SIT UNLESS THERE WAS ZERO CHANCE OF RAIN. DUE TO THE SEPARATION, ANY RAIN WOULD GET RIGHT INTO THE PASSENGER CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. THIS PAST FRIDAY, JUNE 2, 2006, I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER BECAUSE I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING MY TOP WAS IN STOCK. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS IN STOCK, BUT WAS BEING PAINTED AND THAT I WOULD BE CALLED WHEN IT WAS READY. SINCE IT WAS A GOOD DAY WITH NO CHANCE OF RAIN, I DECIDED TO DRIVE THE CAR TO WORK. LEAVING MY OFFICE THAT EVENING AROUND 6, MY ROOF COMPLETELY SEPARATED AND FLEW OFF THE CAR. I HAD JUST ACCELERATED ONTO THE MAIN ROAD AT A NORMAL PACE. I WAS JUST REACHING AROUND 35-40 MPH WHEN I HEARD A WHOOSH AND SUDDENLY I COULD SEE THE SKY. I SAW THE PANEL LAND IN THE ROAD BEHIND ME, AND WAS ABLE TO MAKE A U-TURN AND RETRIEVE THE PANEL. I WAS IN CONTACT WITH GM CUSTOMER SERVICE ABOUT THIS AND ALL THEY COULD DO WAS OFFER MORE EXCUSES AS TO WHY I STILL HAVE NO ROOF FOR MY CAR AND HOW SORRY THEY WERE. MY CAR HAS BEEN SITTING USELESS IN MY GARAGE NOW FOR AROUND 5 WEEKS. IF DESIRED, I HAVE DETAILED PICTURES OF THE ROOF AND THE PANEL THAT FLEW OFF, THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME WHEN IT HAPPENED. *JB
WHILE DRIVING THE C6 CORVETTE WITH PAINTED ROOF, THE ROOF FLEW OFF, ENDANGERING MYSELF AND OTHERS. THAT WAS ALMOST 6 WEEKS AGO AND THE DEALER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED A FIXED ROOF. THE CAR IS UN-DRIVABLE WITHOUT A ROOF. *JB
THIS IS NOT ABOUT A SPECIFIC CAR, RATHER THERE HAVE BEEN SIX REPORTS THIS WEEK IN THE CORVETTE FORUM OF OWNERS WHO HAD THEIR ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM LOCK UP ALL FOUR WHEELS, PULSING VIOLENTLY AND MAKING THEIR CAR UNCONTROLLABLE. TWO OF THESE OWNERS REPORTED THIS HAPPENING AT ABOUT 40+ MPH AND HAD NO CONTROL OF THE CAR AS IT ENTERED ONCOMING TRAFFIC BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. THIS IS A VERY, VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT COULD VERY EASILY TAKE THE LIVES OF DRIVERS AND PEDESTRIANS. *JB
