SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM WARNING HAS BEEN ON NOW FOR BETTER THAN THREE WEEKS. WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION.
WHEN I FILL MY CAR UP WITH GAS IT VERY LOUD LIKE GAS IS LEAKING
LAST MONTH WHEN I FILLED THE GAS TANK I HAD A STRONG ODER OF GAS WHEN I PARKED MY CAR IN THE GARAGE. NOW I SMELL GAS IN THE CAR AS I DRIVE IT. I DID NOT OVERFLOW THE GAS TANK UPON REFILL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT INITIALLY SMELLED AN ABNORMAL FUEL ODOR EMITTING FROM THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED SPOTS AROUND HIS LEFT REAR TIRE IN HIS DRIVEWAY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH A DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP, AND THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED. SINCE THE REPAIR, THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS FUEL GAUGE HAD BECOME DEFECTIVE AND WOULD GIVE FALSE READINGS. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH BURNS CHEVROLET OF GAFFNEY (101 PEACHOID RD, GAFFNEY, SC 29341) WHERE HE ATTEMPTED TO PURCHASE A FUEL PUMP BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE MANUFACTURER HAD YET TO BE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FUEL GAUGE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,100.
I HAVE A VERY LOUD ODOR OF GAS COMING FROM THE CAR (2007 CORVETTE) AFTER I FILL IT UP WITH GAS. I AM UNABLE TO PARK IT INSIDE MY GARAGE BECAUSE THE SMELL OF GAS WILL FILL MY HOME. THE SMELL OF GAS IS ONLY NOTICEABLE WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED.
SERVICE B. : 15682 GAS SMELL; DEALER TELLING ME REQUIRES LEFT FUEL PUMP AND CROSSOVER PIPE AND THEY WILL NOT PAY FOR. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AS ITS VERY DANGEROUS. I NEVER GOT ANYTHING FROM CHEVY REGARDING THIS ISSUE. HAVE HAD SMELL ISSUES FOR YEARS. HAVE BARELY DRIVEN IN 2.5 YEARS BECAUSE OF ISSUE. *TR
WHEN I FILL UP VEHICLE OF COURSE WITH NOT OVER FLOWING OR TOPPING IT OFF THERE IS A STRONG SMELL OF GAS ON DRIVER SIDE NO SIGNS OF LEAK AND SMELL IS VERY NOTICEABLE IN CABIN AS WELL. SMELL IS STRONG IN GARAGE WHEN LEFT IN OVER NIGHT EVEN WHEN NOT FILLING UP THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN THERE COULD HAVE HALF A TANK AND MAYBE PUT ADDITIONAL 5 DOLLARS TO GET TO 3/4 TANK ISSUE IS STILL THERE.
This particular Corvette C6 model (2005 through 2013 model years) has a well known and documented problem with the automatic transmissions. Upon engine startup, it oftentimes will not shift out of the Park gear. When the Chevrolet Customer Service people were called about this, their response was that they are well aware of this problem with the C6 model years. The Customer Service people said that a Recall was not issued because the way to address this problem is to: Shut off the engine, put the ignition in the Accessory mode, then try and shift the transmission into Neutral. If it is able to shift into Neutral, then start the engine. Once the engine starts, then try and shift the transmission into the Drive or Reverse gear. If this sequence doesn't work, we were told just to keep repeating this sequence over and over. There have been occasions when we had to repeat this sequence at least half a dozen times and there have also been occasions where we were stranded in parking lots and had to leave the car and come back to it later to try again. This is a safety concern due to the real possibility of being stranded at night in parking lots. There aren't any warning lights or messages. There also aren't any advanced warnings, in terms of symptoms. The only way the problem manifests itself, is when the car cannot be shifted out of the Park gear. Whenever the car is brought into service, including at Chevrolet dealers for such items as oil changes, the mechanics try shifting it out of the Park gear and when they can't, they will call and ask us what to do. The added concern here is that if the mechanic physically forces the shifter out of the Park gear, the entire shifter and possibly the transmission will be damaged. We are the original owners of the car and it only has 18,000 miles on it. This problem first appeared about two years ago but it is happening much more often now.
EBCM FAILURE RESULTING IN LOSS OF ANTI SKID SYSTEM, ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WHICH DIRECTLY IMPACTS THE BRAKING SYSTEM AND STEERING. APPARENTLY IT'S A COMMON FAILURE AND GM HAS STOPPED MANUFACTURING OF THE NEEDED MODULES. THE RESULT IS THAT HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE ARE EITHER UNSAFE NOW OR WILL BECOME UNSAFE WITHOUT ANY WARNING.
CAR IS LEAKING GAS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE DRIVER'S-SIDE FUEL TANK.
CORVETTE HAS HAD A PROBLEM WITH FUEL SMELL COMING FROM THE CAR AFTER YOU FILL THE TANK.THIS ISSUE IS VERY SERIOUS. FUEL LEAKS OUT THE TOP OF THE TANKS, AND WILL THEN DRIP DOWN THE BACK SIDE ONTO THE HOT EXHAUST. IF IGNORED THIS COULD RESULT IN A FIRE AND POSSIBLE DEATH. IF PARKED OVERNIGHT IN A GARAGE, THE VAPOR WILL FILL THE GARAGE AND COULD EASILY BE TRIGGERED INTO AN EXPLOSION AND FIRE FROM A GAS WATER HEATER OR OTHER IGNITION SOURCE. I CAN'T PARK MY C6 IN MY GARAGE WITHOUT IT FILLING THE ENTIRE GARAGE WITH FUMES SO STRONG THAT I CAN'T EVEN KEEP MY DOGS IN THERE. THE VAPORS THEN SEEP INTO THE HOUSE. THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, AND UNSAFE TO LEAVE PARKED.
SMELL OF FUEL IS OVERBEARING IN THE COCKPIT OF THE CAR WHILE DRIVING. IT'S A 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE 2 DOOR. JUST PURCHASED THE CAR 3 WEEKS AGO.
VEHICLE HAS A REALLY INTENSE SMELL OF GASOLINE INSIDE CABIN WHEN CARS PARKED OR IN DRIVE.
WHILE DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, THE STEERING WHEEL POPPED OUT AND DROPPED INTO MY LAP. SEEMS AS IF ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN FELL, AS WELL AS SPRING LOADED ACTION OF ACTUAL STEERING WHEEL. I WAS ABLE TO LIFT UP AND APPLY PRESSURE FORWARD ONTO STEERING WHEEL TO REGAIN CONTROL OF STEERING, BUT HAD TO HOLD WHEEL IN PLACE.
THE SUBFRAME RADIATOR CORE SUPPORT BROKE. IN ORDER TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR THE BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED. AFTER THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETE THE BATTERY WAS RECONNECTED. NOW THE RADIO DOESN'T DISPLAY THE GPS CLOCK. CLOCK DOESN'T WORK IT WILL NOT LET YOU SET THE CLOCK DISPLAY. I READ ONLINE THAT THE SATELLITE CODES WERE RESET FOR VEHICLES YEARS 2005-2011. SO WHEN THE BATTER IS DISCONNECTED THE RADIO SOFTWARE GOES HAYWIRE WHEN THIS PROBLEM IS BROUGHT TO CHEVROLET ATTENTION THE GARAGE SAID THAT REPROGRAMING THE RADIO COULD FIX THE PROBLEM COST $160.00 THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED AT CHEVROLET GARAGE ON THEIR DIME THEY CAUSED THE PROBLEM THEY SHOULD PROVIDE THE FIX COST FREE SEVERAL FORUMS IN THE CORVETTE COMMUNITY ARE AVAILABLE ONLINE NO ONE HAS A FIX LISTED FOR THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED WHILE STATIONARY PROBLEM IS CONSTANT DISCONNECT BATTERY THEN RECONNECT BATTERY REGARDLESS IF YOUR DOING A REPAIR OR REPLACING THE BATTERY THE RADIO SOFTWARE GOES HAYWIRE AND THE CLOCK DOESN'T DISPLAY AND WON'T LET YOU SET IT IT WON'T ENTER INTO ANY SET MODE
TAKAYUKI RECALL. STRONG GAS SMELL IN AND OUT OF CAR. SEEMS TO BE MORE LIKELY AFTER FILL UPS. CAN SMELL STATIONARY OR WHILE MOVING.
I WAS SOLD A NON-FEDRAL EMISSIONS COMPLIANT CAR AND THE DEALER WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED PDF FILE.
WHEN TURNING AT SLOW SPEEDS, THE ACTIVE SUSPENSION WILL EITHER ACTIVATE OR FORCE A DIC MESSAGE "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM." SOMETIMES, THIS OCCURS SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH ABS ACTIVATION OF THE BRAKES. THIS HAS CAUSED ME TO DRIVE INTO HEAD- ON LANES, OR FORCED ME TO STOP IN MOVING TRAFFIC WITHOUT BRAKE LIGHTS. IT SEEMS WORSE IN COLD OR WET WEATHER. RESTARTING THE CAR WILL RESET THE DISPLAY.
RETURNED FROM A DRIVE. BACKED CAR INTO PARKING SPOT AND TRANSMISSION WILL NOT GO INTO PARK. AS A RESULT, CAN NOT RESTART CAR.
AUTOMATIC SHIFTER WILL LOCK IN PARK AND WILL LOCK AND NOT MOVE. CAR CAN BE RUNNING, IN PARK, AND IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO MOVE THE SHIFTER. RESTARTING OR USING ACCESSORY MODE WILL SOMETIMES UNLOCK. OFTEN YOU ARE JUST STUCK AND CAR MUST BE TOWED
FUEL SMELL HAS BEEN GETTING STRONGER AND STRONGER
MY CORVETTE EMITS A VERY STRONG FUEL SMELL BOTH WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE STATIONARY. IT IS MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED IN THE GARAGE AND SHORTLY AFTER DRIVING. THE ISSUE IS ONGOING AND OCCURS MOST FREQUENTLY WHEN THE TANKS ARE FULL OR NEAR FULL. THE FUMES ARE SO STRONG IN MY GARAGE THAT I GET LIGHT HEADED AND NAUSEOUS. I TOOK THE CAR TO A DEALER MECHANIC TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. ISSUE WAS IDENTIFIED AS A LEAK IN THE LEFT FUEL TANK. FROM THE INVOICE I RECEIVED "FOUND FUEL LEAK AT LEFT TANK. REMOVE DRIVE LINE AND REMOVE LEFT TANK. FOUND FUEL MODULE LEAKING. REPLACE MODULE AND TANK HOSES WITH DRIVE LINE REMOVED. REMOVE RIGHT TANK AND REPLACE SENDING UNIT AND ALL PLASTIC HOSES. ALSO NECESSARY TO REPLACE LEFT TANK HARNESS DUE TO FUEL CONTAMINATION." THIS REPAIR COST $3,300. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT DISCOUNT ANY MONEY OFF OF THE REPAIR EVEN THOUGH THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVEABLE IN ITS CURRENT STATE AND WOULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE TO OPERATE OR STORE. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT HE SEES MANY 2007 CORVETTES IN FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED CASE. I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS LOGGED ABOUT THIS ISSUE. IT SEEMS LIKE A RECALL NEEDS TO BE DONE TO SOLVE THIS.
STRONG GAS ODOR COMING FROM REAR DRIVERS SIDE NEAR GAS TANK BUT NO LEAKS ANYWHERE TO BE FOUND UNDER THE CAR. FUMES UP THE ENTIRE GARAGE AND IN PARTS OF THE HOUSE. SEEMS VERY HAZARDOUS IF EVER THERE WAS A SPARK OF SOME KIND EVER OCCURRED! I REALLY ONLY NOTICE THIS OCCURANCE WHEN PARKED AND SLIGHTLY WHEN DRIVING WITH WINDOWS UP.
AUTOMATIC SHIFTER STICKS IN PARK WHEN TRYING TO SHIFT IT
COULD SMELL GAS IN MY GARAGE BUT DIDNT SEE ANY GAS ON THE FLOOR TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID FUEL TANK SEEMS TO HAVE A LEAK BUT CAN SEE IT! IT SEEMS TO BE ON TOP OF FUEL TANK. MY CORVETTE HAS 46,285 MILES ON IT. IT SEEMS TO SOMETHING LIKE THIS IS PRETTY DANGEROUS SETTING IN GARAGE OVER NIGHT. IT SEEMS GM AS ON RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM!
BEGAN TO NOTICE A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL EMITTING FROM THE GARAGE. THIS WOULD OCCUR EVERY TIME I FILLED UP MY VEHICLE AND PARKED IN THE GARAGE. SINCE MY WATER HEATER IS LOCATED IN THE GARAGE AND FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY, VEHICLE WAS MOVED OUTDOORS. RECEIVED NOTICE FROM GM THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF ISSUE AND THAT REPAIRS WOULD BE COVERED. DROVE VEHICLE TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP, WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT THE NOTICE HAD EXPIRED. WOUND UP PAYING $2600 IN REPAIR COST.
WHEN I FILL THE CAR UP WITH GAS IT LEAKS OUT ON THE GROUND AND I CAN SMELL IT VERY BAD INSIDE THE CAR
FUEL POOLS ON TOP OF FUEL TANK WHEN YOU FILL UP. STRONG ORDER OF GASOLINE UNTIL FUEL LEVEL LOWS IN TANK. VAPORS ENTERS IN THE INTERIOR OF CAR. THIS HAPPEN WITH EACH FILL UP.
WHENEVER I PUT MORE THAN A HALF OF TANK OF GAS INTO THE CAR I AM OVERWHELMED WITH THE STRONG SMELL OF GAS. I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY SPOTS FROM GAS LEAKING BUT HE SMELL IS VERY STRONG! IT SMELL WHEN IT IS PARKED AND WHEN I DROVE IT THIS PAST WEEKEND I COULD SMELL IT ON THE INSIDE WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND I HAD TO CRACK MY WINDOW TO GET THE FLUMES OUT!
I WAS DRIVING DOWN MY STREET READY TO DOWNSHIFT MY CLUTCH AS I PREPARED TO ENTER MY DRIVEWAY. I LOST CONTROL OF MY CLUTCH AS THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND DID NOT RETURN. I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE SINCE I WAS NOT SURE IN THAT SPLIT MOMENT ON HOW TO SLOW DOWN MY VEHICLE AS I WAS PREPARING TO ENTER MY DRIVEWAY. I IMMEDIATELY HAD TO HIT MY BRAKE PEDAL VERY HARD TO SLOW DOWN MY VEHICLE AND CAME TO A STOP INCHES FROM HITTING MY HOME. I ONLY WONDER IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY OR AT SOME HIGH RATE OF SPEED, WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE IF COULD NOT ENGAGE MY CLUTCH AND DRIVE MY VEHICLE. SINCE MY POWERTRAIN BECAME INOPERABLE, I FELT LIKE I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION AND GM SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THE VEHICLE. GM IS VERY AWARE THAT THE CLUTCH COULD FAIL. THEY SENT ME A LETTER 4 YEARS AGO (COPY ATTACHED) TELLING ME THEY FOUND AN INTERNAL FAILURE IN THE MASTER CLUTCH CYLINDER. BUT GM WOULD NOT REPLACE THE CLUTCH. THAT IS DANGEROUS SITUATION TO BE DRIVING AND NOT SURE WHEN YOUR YOU COULD LOSE CONTROL OF YOUR VEHICLE. I AM LUCKY TO BE ALIVE AND UNHARMED TODAY DESPITE GM'S FAILURE TO REPLACE THIS DEFECTIVE CLUTCH.
THE VEHICLE SMELLS LIKE FUEL WHEN FUEL TANK IS FULL REGARDLESS IF THE VEHICLE IS ON OR OFF.
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. AFTER READING ALL OVER AND TRYING TO FIGURE WHAT'S WRONG IT APPEARS TO BE A WIDE SPREAD ISSUE. IT HAPPENS AT RANDOM TIMES, SLOW SPEED AROUND TOWN OR DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WHAT I DON'T LIKE IS IT DISABLE'S THE AIRBAG WHEN THE AIRBAG WHEN ON. THANK YOU
OVERWHELMING FUEL ODOR AFTER SHUTTING CAR OFF AND HOUSING IT IN THE GARAGE OR OUTSIDE. ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE IN SUMMER WHEN ETHANOL IS ADDED TO FUEL - HEAVY SMELL OF NAIL POLISH REMOVER INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CAR. FUEL VAPOR LEAK FROM GAS TANK REQUIRES $2,678.87 REPAIR. FUEL VAPOR BUILDUP INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND/OR GARAGE AND HOUSE ARE A FIRE HAZARD AS WELL AS A HEALTH HAZARD. OTHER OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED OF SIMILAR PROBLEM ON THE CORVETTE FORUM. UPON STARTING THE SHIFT LEVER FOR THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CANNOT BE MOVED OUT OF PARK. CAR DIED ONCE IN A HIGHWAY AND COULD NOT BE MOVED OFF THE STREET. THIS ISSUE IS RECURING, WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS FIRST STARTED. INTERMITTENT NO SHIFT OUT OF PARK ISSUE.

AIRBAG IDIOT LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYS ON. THERE IS NO OBD CODE SET. CAR WAS STATIONARY IN PARKING LOT AND WAS FINE, CAME OUT TO RESTART IT AFTER SHOPPING AND THE WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON, AND STAYED ON. OTHER OWNERS SEEM TO BE REPORTING VERY SIMILAR IF NOT IDENTICAL FAILURES,
WHEN I BAUGHT THE VEHICAL THE SEAT BELT ALWAYS LOCKED AND NOW IT SAYS BUCKLE SEAT BELT WHEN IT IS, DEALER IS NOT GOING TO FIX. AMONG OTHER ISSUES

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE TARGA CONVERTIBLE TOP FLEW OFF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RETRIEVE THE CONVERTIBLE TOP FROM THE SIDE OF THE ROADWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LOU BACHRODT CHEVROLET COCONUT CREEK (5500 SR 7, COCONUT CREEK, FL 33073) AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V491000 (STRUCTURE); THEREFORE, THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND COULD NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE A FEW MONTHS AFTER TSB N150682 WAS ISSUED. IT COULD BE DANGEROUS WITH THE LEAKY FUEL AND SMELL.
MY BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE THE BRAKE LIGHTS GO OFF.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING OR IMPACT, WHICH WAS A SAFETY CONCERN. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MCCLUSKEY CHEVROLET (9673 KINGS AUTO MALL RD, CINCINNATI, OH 45249, (513) 761-1111) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,506.
AFTER STARTING, WITH FOOT ON BRAKE, CAR STILL, THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION)
STRONG FUEL SMELL ON THE OUTSIDE AND INSIDE OF THE CAR THEN YOU FILL UP.
HARMONIC BALANCE BAD ON CAR WITH ONLY 50K
THE LAST 2 DAYS WHEN I DRIVE AT NIGHT THE HEADLIGHTS (LOW BEAMS) SHUT OFF. I SWITCH TO THE HIGH BEAMS AND THEY WORK. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN THE DARK AND IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT HAPPENS ABOUT 30 OR 40 MINUTES AFTER DRIVING THE CAR. I LET THE CAR SIT FOR 4 OR 5 HOURS AND THEN COME BACK AND THEY START WORKING. IT IS THE UNDERHOOD BUSSED ELECTRICAL CENTER (UBEC) HOUSING I SUSPECT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL WAS DETECTED INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. EVEN WHEN THERE WAS FUEL IN THE VEHICLE, THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATOR SHOWED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EMPTY. IN ADDITION, THE FUEL INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURES OCCURRED PERIODICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000.
On 2/24/18 while driving the vehicle in first gear taking off from a stoplight averaging a speed no higher than 30mph and not yet entering 2nd gear the vehicle made a loud screeching noise from the motor area and then abruptly stopped and shut off the engine. A dashboard warning of reduced motor speed appeared and the vehicle stayed in accessory mode only allowing the interior electrical systems to operate. The roadway that I was on being 3 lanes wide and at time of engine failure I was in the middle lane, I was forced to attempt to take vehicle off main roadway onto a side street. Being that the engine abruptly stopped, speed was lost rather quickly putting me in a dangerous situation where the vehicles behind me and next to me could potentially hit me endangering my safety. Additionally I had to cross over in front of oncoming traffic as the only available safe stop was a side street was on the opposite side of road. At that point I was able to stop the vehicle off the roadway onto a side street where the vehicle was then towed back to our residence. The vehicle was then later towed to our mechanic where bore scope inspection revealed a thrown piston and rod. At that time we authorized a tear down to be completed by the mechanic that revealed a thrown piston and rod in the 1st cylinder, which we have since found out is a known and common cylinder to fail. The rod was thrown through the block and piston shattering which made this catastrophic motor failure not allowing repair to be completed and the only option being a full motor replacement. The mechanic advised this was due to a faulty valve in the cylinder head. Symptoms I feel may have been related and ultimately contributed to this failure date back as far as the date I purchased the vehicle on 4/2/16 where vehicle engine made irregular noises. Vehicle was seen 4/18/16 by Chevy stating noises normal and characteristic to alternator, as well as 11/14/17 when a cylinder 3 injector malfunction was detected.
FILLED MY CAR WITH FUEL AND PARKED IN MY GARAGE AND ABOUT AN HOUR LATER I WENT BACK OUT TO MY GARAGE AND THE WHOLE GARAGE SMELLED LIKE FUEL. I WAS AFRAID THE GARAGE WOULD CATCH FIRE AS MY WATER HEATER IS IN THERE SO I PULLED MY CAR OUT AND SEARCHED FOR A LEAK. I COULD NOT FIND ONE AND THE NEXT DAY I TOOK THE CAR TO MY DEALER. THEY FOUND LEAKS IN BOTH TANKS AND I SPENT $2000 REPAIRING THE CAR. I WAS TOLD THEY KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT THAT MY EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE THEY PUT ON THIS ISSUE EXPIRED JUST WEEKS PRIOR. I WAS NEVER INFORMED OF THIS PROBLEM AS I AM THE SECOND OWNER. THIS SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN A SPECIAL EXTENDED WARRANTY DUE TO THE HAZARDOUS NATURE OF THIS SYSTEM. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED AT NO EXPENSE TO ME. WANTED TO TELL YOU THAT THIS HAPPENED ON 12-24-17 BUT YOUR FORM WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO PUT IN THAT DATE.
