2007 CHEVY CORVETTE 40K MILES GETTING SPORADIC "SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING" WARNING ON DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER. NO CRASH (YET). I'M MERELY REPORTING A SAFETY CONCERN THAT IS APPARENTLY ALREADY UNDER INVESTIGATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS EXAMINING HIS VEHICLE HE NOTICED THAT THE NUT AND WASHER ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE THAT HOLDS THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY AND AXLE WAS MISSING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 11000. UPDATED 5/10/10 *CN UPDATED 05/14/14
THIS PROBLEM STARTED SOON AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR USED. I HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKE SWITCH AND ADDED FOUR INCHES OF WIRE TO THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE TELESCOPIC STEERING WHEEL. I RECENTLY REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS AND THE SERVICE HANDLING SYSTEM SOON COMES ON. THERE IS NO RECALLS ON MY CAR AND HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT. I AM READING THIS COULD BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE BEEN TO THE CORVETTE FORUM AND TRIED NUMEROUS THINGS TO FIX THIS. I AM CURRENTLY CHECKING ELECTRICAL GROUNDS TO SEE IF THAT HELPS. *TR
VALVES BROKE. CAUSING SMOKE AND OIL RELEASED ON THE HIGHWAY. VALVE GUIDES BROKE. THE ENGINE HEADS FAILED CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AND A FIRE TO THE ENGINE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE GEAR SHIFT CONTROL FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE GEAR SHIFT CONTROL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; IT WAS REPAIRED BY THE DEALER AT THE CONTACTS EXPENSE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 44,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000.
SNAPPING SOUNDS COMING FROM THE GLASS ROOF OF MY 2007 MODEL YEAR CHEVROLET CORVETTE, PURCHASED IN AUGUST OF 2006. ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE IN TEMPERATURE CHANGES AND ROUGH ROAD SURFACES. RECALL ALREADY IN PROGRESS FOR 2005-2007 MODEL YEAR, BUT MY CAR IS NOT INCLUDED AS TOLD TO ME BY GM REPRESENTATIVE. I CAN HAVE THE CAR DIAGNOSED BY CHEVY, BUT AT MY COST. CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT HAS THE SYMPTOMS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL INFORMATION. *TR
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND A BIG BLACK CLOUD OF SMOKE STARTING SPEWING OUT SO I PULLED OVER. HAD IT TOWED TO A CORVETTE SPECIALIST AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT PISTON #7 WAS CRACKED. I STILL HAVE THE CRACKED PISTON IN MY POSSESSION, I'VE ATTACHED PHOTOS. *TR
WE HAVE A 2007 C6, 3 LT WITH ONLY 9,400 MILES.ITS OVER 3 YEARS OLD SO ITS OUT OF WARRANTY. WE WERE DRIVING IN THE MOUNTAINS AND HEARD A CLUNK AND SOMETHING FALL WITHIN THE STEERING COLUMN. WE NOTICED THE STEERING WHEEL GOT LOOSE AND WAS SORT OF SAGGING DOWN. GOT HOME AND PULLED THE LOWER KICK PANEL LOOSE AND FOUND A PIVOT PIN THAT GOES IN THE LEFT SIDE OF THE TILT PART OF THE STEERING COLUMN. WHEN I PULLED THE COVERS OFF THE STEERING COLUMN, I FOUND THE OTHER PIN ABOUT TO FALL OUT. I REINSTALLED THEM AND EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE OKAY NOW. SCARY THOUGHT TO BE DRIVING IN THE MOUNTAINS, ESPECIALLY COLORADO MOUNTAINS, TO THINK THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD FALL OFF IN YOUR LAP. I PUT THE PINS IN 2 TIMES THE LAST TIME I PUT LOCTITE ON THEM. IT HAS LASTED ABOUT 7000 MILES. NOW THE ARE LOSE AGAIN. *TR
THIS COMPLAINT IS REGARDING A STOCK 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE, UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE AND SLOWLY DRIVING DOWN A ROAD THE CAR LOST CONTROL AND WENT LEFT BARELY MISSING A CURB. THE REASON FOR THIS COMPLAINT IS THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM OR STABILITY SEEMS AS THOUGH ITS OFF AND SAYS IN THE COMPUTER THAT ITS TURNING ON AFTER THE INCIDENT HAPPENED TO ME ABOUT 3 TIMES THIS LAST ONE CAUSING CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE TO MY UNDERBODY. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE CHECKED IN THE COMPUTER OF THE CAR OR ANY ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS. THIS ISSUE DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME, THEREFORE THERE WAS ALOT OF TIME INBETWEEN EACH INCIDENT, I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS A DEFECT BUT IT IS CERTAINLY NOT GOOD IF OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THESE PROBLEMS AS I AM. *TR

FRONT LEFT BRAKE LOCKUP - SERVICE ACTIVE HANDING SYSTEM ERROR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE VEHICLE HAS METAL BRAKE AND CLUTCH PEDALS. DURING RAINY WEATHER CONDITIONS THE COMPONENTS BECOME VERY SLIPPERY. ON ONE INCIDENT THE FAILURE ALMOST CAUSED A VEHICLE CRASH. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. HE WAS ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE. HE WAS THEN ADVISED THAT A WARRANTY COULD NOT BE PROVIDED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 12,000.
THIS CAR INTERMITTENTLY LOCKS THE STEERING COLUMN. NO REASON. THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF AT SPEED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. HE STATED WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 40 MPH THE ROOF PANEL SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND ALTHOUGH RECALL NUMBER 09V491000, STRUCTURE:BODY:ROOF AND PILLARS WAS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE FAILURE, HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 19,000.
IN MAY 2009 I MADE A ROAD TRIP FROM MY HOME IN NY TO TAMPA FL, WHEN I LEFT NY MY 2007 ZO6 CORVETTE HAD 1500 MILES DURING THE TRIP I WAS NOT INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENTS, WHEN I ARRIVED IN FL THE NEXT DAY (DROVE STRAIGHT THROUGH) I NOTICED THAT BOTH FRONT HEADLAMP LENSES HAD NUMEROUS TINY CRACKS IN THEM, I CALLED A LOCAL GM DEALER, I EXPLAINED THE SITUATION, THEY STATED " I MUST HAVE HIT SOMETHING" I WAS LIVID I THEN CALLED MY DEALER IN NY THEY SAID NOT TO WORRY AND WOULD LOOK AT THE VEHICLE WHEN I RETURNED. I ARRIVED HOME ON A SATURDAY NIGHT 1ST THING MONDAY I CALLED BECK CHEVROLET AND SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER, HE SAID BRING IT OVER ,I DROVE CAR OVER IMMEDIATELY, ONLY THE SERVICE MANAGER LOOKED AT CAR, NO 1 ELSE SAW MY VEHICLE THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THERE WAS NO CHEMICAL ON MY HEADLIGHTS, HE SAID THERE WAS A BULLETIN FROM GM AND THEY COULD DO NOTHING, IT WAS A MYSTERIOUS CHEMICAL THAT CAUSED THIS PROBLEM, I THEN CALLED GM AND ASKED FOR A REVIEW, WHEN I CALLED GM BACK SEVERAL DAYS LATER THEY SAID THEY SPOKE TO A MECHANIC @ BECK CHEVY WHO STATED " THAT HE INSPECTED MY CAR AND THERE WAS A CHEMICAL ON MY HEAD LIGHTS, THIS IS NO WAY TRUE I WAS PRESENT DURING THE ENTIRE TIME 20 MIN CAR WAS @ DEALER AND ONLY THE SERVICE MANAGER LOOKED AT VEHICLE. I THEN CALLED GM AGAIN AND WROTE A FEW LETTER EXPLAINING WHAT HAPPEN, THEY SAID CHEMICALS USED BY AUTO DETAILERS CAUSES HEADLIGHTS TO CRACK, I BROUGHT UP THE POINT THAT BECK CHEVY HAD AN OUTSIDE PERSON DETAILING MY VEHICLE WHEN I PICKED IT UP, BUT THEY COULDN'T TELL ME WHY AND WHAT CHEMICALS HE USED ( I PERSONALLY SAW THIS PERSON DETAIL MY VEHICLE), I GOTTEN NO OTHER RESPONSE FROM GM. I BELIEVE THAT THE LENSES CRACKED BECAUSE OF HEAT FROM THE LONG DRIVE TO FL FROM NY WITH THE DAYTIMERUNNING LIGHTS AND HAVE THE LIGHTS ON THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT, LIGHTS WERE ON FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 HOURS STRAIGHT. ON THE WAY HOME I TURNED THE DAYTIME LIGHTS OFF BUT TURNED THEM ON AT NIGHT, AS OF TODAY MY CORVETTE ( BABY ) HAS 4,013 MILES. *TR
FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT WORK. ORIGINAL PROBLEM WAS IN 2009 WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER ON THE FREEWAY. FUEL GAUGE INDICATED FUEL IN THE TANK, BUT IT WAS EMPTY. HAD VEHICLE TOWED AND REFUELED. FROM THAT TIME TO THE PRESENT, FUEL GAUGE HAS NEVER BEEN ACCURATE. SINCE 2013, THE FUEL GAUGE NO LONGER WORKS AT ALL. *TR
GAS GAGE STOPPED WORKING DUE TO FOULTY GAS TANK GAGE IN SECOND GAS TANK. THIS CAR HAS TWO GAS TANK WITH TWO GAS TANK GAGE WHICH NUMBER TWO GAS GAGE IT STOPS WORKING AND DOES NOT SHOW
AS I WAS DRIVING AWAY FROM MY HOME TO WORK, I WAS STILL ON THE MAIN ROAD OF MY COMMUNITY. THE REMOVABLE TOP OF MY 2007 CORVETTE COUPE FLEW OFF. THIS OCCURRED ON MARTIN KING'S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION IN 2009. I AM GLAD IT HAPPENED ON THIS DAY SINCE THE NUMBER OF VEHICLES WERE FEWER DUE TO SCHOOL AND GOVERNMENT OFFICES WERE CLOSED. ON JAN 2010, I DISCOVERED THAT GM HAD A RECALL WITH THE REMOVABLE TOP. I HAVE CALLED GM AND THEY HAVE STATED MY CAR IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. HOWEVER BEFORE THE TOP CAME OFF AND NOW, I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS AS NOTED IN THE RECALL. MY REMOVABLE TOP MAKES NOISE AS I DRIVE OVER BUMPS AND I HEAR WIND NOISES WHEN I DRIVE. *TR
MY 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE COUPE HAS SINCE ORIGINAL PURCHASE HAS MADE POPPING NOISES. IT HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES. I EVEN TOOK IT ONCE AND TOLD THEM THERE WAS A RECALL ON SOME TOPS. THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES I TOOK IT IN THE DEALERSHIP DID DO SOMETHING THAT MADE AN IMPROVEMENT BUT THE NOISES COMES BACK. NOW IT IS A CONSTANT AND EMBARRASSING NOISE FROM THE TOP. EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN YOUR RECALL I QUESTION WHETHER A TOP MIGHT HAVE BEEN PUT ON TO MAKE THE SALE SINCE I WANTED A PAINTED TOP INSTEAD OF A GLASS TOP. THIS IS MY 4TH CORVETTE AND HAVE NOTHING BUT BAD EXPERIENCES WITH GLASS TOPS. MY QUESTION IS: WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THESE NOISES. *TR
ON 09/03/08 I BROUGHT MY CAR TO A CHEVY DEALER FOR NOISY LIFTERS , THEY REPLACED THE ROCKER ARMS AT THE #8 CYLINDER WHICH MADE THE LIFTER NOISE NOT AS LOUD. ON 11/07/08 AS I GOT ONTO THE THRUWAY , I ACCELERATED IN SECOND GEAR TO GET INTO THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC ,I PUSHED IN THE CLUTCH TO SHIFT INTO THIRD GEAR . AS I RELEASED THE CLUTCH WITH NO THROTTLE APPLIED , THE CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE VERY BADLY . I THEN PUSHED THE CLUTCH PEDAL IN LOOKED AT MY GAUGES WHICH WERE ALL DEAD. THEN I LOOKED INTO THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AND THERE WAS A LARGE CLOUD OF WHITE SMOKE BEHIND ME . THEN I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THEY CALLED AND INFORMED ME THE NEXT DAY THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK AT THE #8 CYLINDER . THE DEALERSHIP AND GM REFUSE TO REPAIR THE CAR UNDER WARRANTY STATING THAT THE CAR IS USED COMPETITIVELY OF WHICH IT IS NOT . I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MANY MAJOR ENGINE FAILURES WITH THE Z06 CORVETTE . GM HAS A PROGRAM FOR 2007 AND 2008 Z06 CARS THAT HAVE MAJOR ENGINE FAILURES WHERE THEY SEND THE CAR BACK TO THE FACTORY WHERE THEY REPAIR OR REPLACE THE ENGINE . THE DOCUMENT ID # 2067130 AND #PIP4132B OF WHICH I HAVE A COPY OF . IF THERE WAS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THESE ENGINES THEY WOULD NOT HAVE THE PROGRAM IN PLACE .*TR
SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM ERROR APPEARS ON THE DASH AND A BELL SOUNDS FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THIS HAS HAPPENED OVER 6 TIMES IN THE 4 YEARS THAT WE HAVE OWNED THIS 2007 CORVETTE STARTING IN SEPT 08. WE HAVE TAKEN IT IN 6 TIMES TO BE FIXED. THEY SAY THE COMPUTER SHOWS CODE C0710 AND THEY REPLACED THE STEERING WHEEL POSITION E7690 SENSOR FIVE TIMES. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED, THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED FROM SIDE TO SIDE AND SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF MY WIFE. FORTUNATELY SHE WAS DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED. THEY SAID THEY REPLACED THE STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSOR CONNECTOR RETAINING CLIP. COME TO FIND OUT, THERE HAS BEEN A GM SERVICE BULLETIN #060235002B OUT ON THIS CONDITION SINCE OCT 19, 2007. WE WERE NEVER INFORMED OF THIS FACT. WE FOUND OUT BY GOING TO THE CORVETTE FORUM AFTER THIS LAST INCIDENT. THEY ALSO SAID THE "FIX" WAS NOT COVERED UNDER MY MAJOR GUARD GM PROTECTION PLAN, BUT THEY DIDN'T CHARGE ME BECAUSE I HAD BROUGHT IT TO THEM 6 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. HOW MAGNANIMOUS OF THEM! THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL TO PROTECT PEOPLES LIVES. I JUST HOPE WHAT THEY DID FIXES IT, BUT I AM DOUBTFUL! MY VEHICLE IS A 2007 CORVETTE ZO6 WITH APPROX 5000 MILES. I NOTICED LOUD NOISES FROM THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. I THOUGHT I HAD A FLAT OR SOMEONE HAD TAMPERED WITH MY VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO VISIBLE SIGN OF THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE NOISE STOPPED AFTER A SHORT TIME. I CALLED THE DEALER WHO INDICATED THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL FLUID WAS THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM AND NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. I HAD THAT DONE BUT FOUND THAT A FRIEND OF MINE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM (2006 ZO6) IN WHICH THE FLUID HAS BEEN CHANGED TWICE IN LESS THAN 10000 MILES. I BELIEVE THIS COULD BE A MAJOR PROBLEM AND COULD RESULT IN FAILURE OF THE GEARBOX ESPECIALLY AT HIGH SPEED. CHEVROLET HAS NOT SATISFACTORILY ADDRESSED THIS POTENTIALLY SERIOUS PROBLEM OVER 2 MODEL YEARS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE REMOVABLE ROOF WOULD CONTINUOUSLY POP AND THERE WAS ALSO EXCESSIVE MOVEMENT. THE CONTACT LOCATED A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V491000 (STRUCTURE: BODY: ROOF AND PILLARS) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURED ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD CLAIM THE LIABILITY FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE VEHICLE HAS GOODYEAR EAGLE TIRES. UPON INSPECTION OF THE TIRES, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE TWO FRONT TIRES HAD EXCESSIVE TREAD WEAR, AS WELL AS SEVERAL BULGES ON THE INTERIOR SIDEWALL. THE DEALER REFUSED TO INSPECT THE TIRES IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT STILL HAS POSSESSION OF THE TIRES. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 12,033. UPDATED 08/04/08. *LJ UPDATED 08/05/08
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE MADE AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE ROOF PANEL. IN ADDITION, AFTER A ROUTINE INSPECTION, THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD AN OIL LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V491000 (STRUCTURE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 27,000.
THE REAR WINDOW IN THE 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE HAS A DESIGN FLAW AND CAUSES DISTORTION TO THE POINT IT MAKES ONE DIZZY WHEN LOOKING THROUGH THE REAR VIEW MIRROR. THE WINDOW HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE BY THE DEALERSHIP, HOWEVER THEY STATE THEY WILL NO LONGER DO ANYTHING ANY MORE ABOUT IT. THIS DISTORTION IS FOUND IN ALL OF THE CORVETTES AT THE DEALERSHIP, THE REGIONAL MANAGER LOOKED AT THEM AND HAS SAID THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING MORE, AS IT APPEARS IT IS THE PROBLEM LIES IN THE DESIGN. NO WHERE IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL, ADVERTISEMENTS, OR SUCH DOES IT LIST THIS VEHICLE HAS A DISTORTED REAR WINDOW DUE TO IT BEING CURVED. WHEN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AND LOOKING IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR, ONE CAN NOT IDENTIFY VEHICLES OR HOW CLOSE THEY ARE TO MY CAR AND I HAVE ALMOST HAD SEVERAL ACCIDENTS WITH THIS CAR DUE TO THE PROBLEM. ONE CAN NOT LOOK THROUGH THE REAR VIEW MIRROR THROUGH THE REAR WINDOW, FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME BEFORE DIZZINESS AND HEADACHES OCCUR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. AT NIGHT THE GLARE OF HEADLIGHTS MAKE IT EVEN WORSE. THERE ARE MANY OTHER CURVED WINDOWS THAT DO NOT HAVE THE DISTORTION. *TR
JUST BOUGHT A NEW 2007 CORVETTE. VEHICLE "SKIPS SIDEWAYS" AT MODERATE SPEEDS (30 MPH) ON ROUGH ROADS. THIS IS A KNOW GM MANUFACTURE DEFECT THAT WAS COMPLETELY FIXED IN THE 2008 CORVETTE. EXPERIENCED THE "SKIP SIDEWAYS" ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE CHEVROLET DEALER. VEHICLE HAD 26 MILES ON IT WHEN PURCHASED AND NOW HAS 37 MILES ON IT. I GOT ONLINE TO THE "CORVETTE FORUM" AND WAS IMMEDIATELY REFERRED TO THE SEP 07 CAR AND DRIVER MAGAZINE ARTICLE SPECIFICALLY ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE. THE PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS IN THE ARTICLE RATE THE 2007 CORVETTE STEERING AS "UNSATISFACTORY" AND "MAKES THE DRIVERS UNDERSTANDABLY NERVOUS". I FEEL THAT THE STEERING IS "UNSAFE" IN THE 2007 CORVETTE. GM HAS "MADE HUGE IMPROVEMENTS IN THE CHEVY'S HANDLING" AND HAS COMPLETELY REDESIGNED THE STEERING IN THE 2008 CORVETTE. I HAVE REQUESTED THAT GM REPLACE THE STEERING IN MY 2007 CORVETTE WITH THE 2008 OR REPLACE IT WITH A 2008 CORVETTE. *TR

I GOT ONLINE TO THE CORVETTE FORUM AND WAS IMMEDIATELY REFERRED TO THE SEP 07, CAR AND DRIVER MAGAZINE ARTICLE SPECIFICALLY ADDRESSING THIS STEERING ISSUE. THE PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS IN THE ARTICLE, RATE THE 2007 CORVETTE STEERING AS ?UNSATISFACTORY AND MAKES THE DRIVERS UNDERSTANDABLY NERVOUS. FOR SOMEONE ELSE WITH A 2007 CORVETTE THAT HAS ACCESS TO GOOD ROADS AND INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS, THEY MAY NOT NOTICE THE ?SIDEWAYS SKIP? AND THE ?OUT OF CONTROL? FEELING THAT I GET IN THIS VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED I HAVE REQUESTED THAT GM REPLACE THE STEERING IN MY 2007 WITH THE 2008 OR REPLACE IT WITH A 2008 CORVETTE. THE SERVICE REQUEST NUMBER (SRN) IS 71-550-870-246. THIS IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND GM HAS SOLVED THIS PROBLEM IN THE 2008 CORVETTE. GM HAS REVIEWED THE PROBLEM AND HAS STATED THAT THERE IS NO RECALL AT THIS TIME AND HAS DETERMINED NOT TO HELP ME. THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL SOMEONE IS KILLED OR INJURED. THE CONTACT CALLED GM AND THEY INFORMED HIM THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THERE ARE NO RECALLS AVAILABLE FOR THIS FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TO THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE SKIPPED SIDEWAYS WHILE DRIVING ON ROUGH ROADS AT A MODERATE SPEED OF 20-40 MPH. I'VE READ SEVERAL DIFFERENT POSTS ABOUT PEOPLE WITH 2007 CORVETTES HAVING PROBLEMS WITH VALVES AND DROPPING VALVES AND LOSING CONTROL WHEN THIS BECAUSE OF THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES NOT WORKING WHEN THIS HAPPENS. I BOUGHT MY 2007 CORVETTE Z06 NEW BACK IN 2007 AND I'VE ALWAYS NOTICED VALVE NOISE AND LATELY IT SEEMS A LITTLE LOUDER. I HEAR THE VALVE NOISE MOSTLY DRIVING IT IN TOWN. I'M NOT SURE IF I SHOULD JUST WAIT FOR THE VALVES TO FAIL AND TAKE MY CHANCES OR PAY TO HAVE SOMEONE TO PULL THE HEADS AND CHECK ALL THE VALVES AND REPAIR ANY ONES THAT ARE OUT OF SPECIFICATION. SO I THINK IT'S GM'S RESPONSIBILITY TO DO A RECALL FOR THIS BECAUSE IN MY OPINION THIS IS A DEFECT AND IT WOULD BE VERY DANGEROUS TO DROP A VALVE AND LOSE CONTROL OF MY CAR. ON 2006 AND 2007 CHEVY CORVETTE'S THE REAR AXLE NUT WORKS ITSELF LOSE. MY "07" HAS 4,200 MILES ON IT. I CHECKED THE NUT'S AND FOUND THE DRIVERS SIDE TIGHT. BUT THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS 3/4 TURN SHORT OF SNUG, AND WELL SHORT OF THE 118LB TORSUE REQUIREMENT. I HEARD ABOUT IT ON ONE OF THE VETTE FORUM BOARDS. CHEVY HAS DONE NOTHING TO ALERT FOLKS OF THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE IN MY CLUB THAT OF RETIREMENT AGE AND DO LITTLE IF ANY OF THE MAINTENANCE ON THEIR CARS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. ON 4/29/07 WHILE SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT PREPARING TO DRIVE THE CLUTCH WOULD NOT ENGAGE, CAUSING THE RPMS TO INCREASE AT A HIGHER RATE. THE DRIVER SMELLED SMOKE AND OIL BURNING. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED TWICE WITHIN THE SAME DAY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1000. *AK
WE WERE AT A STOP LIGHT AND SMELLED OIL BURNING. THIS HAPPENED A COUPLE OF TIMES BEFORE WE DECIDED TO LOOK UNDER THE CAR. WHEN WE DID THERE WAS OIL ALL OVER THE OIL PAN AND ALL THE WAY TO THE REAR OF THE CAR. TOOK THE CAR TO THE CHEVY DEALER AND THEY TIGHTENED THE BOLTS ON THE OIL PAN. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD US WHEN WE HAD IT IN THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS AND THE REAR MAIN SEAL HAD A PROBLEM WITH LEAKING AND THAT IT SHOULD BE REPLACED IF ANY ONE BROUGHT A VEHICLE IN WITH THIS PROBLEM. TOOK THE CAR HOME AND DROVE FOR A COUPLE DAYS AND STILL SMELLED OIL. LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND THERE WAS OIL ALL OVER AGAIN. THIS TIME IT WAS ALSO ALL OVER THE BACK OF THE CAR AND THE REAR WHEELS AND BRAKES. NOW THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE TO ME. TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER. THEY KEPT IT A WEEK. WENT TO PICK UP THE CAR AND THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD US THEY REPLACED THE SEAL BUT DID NOT HAVE TO PULL THE MOTOR??????? I SAID HOW DID YOU DO THAT? MAYBE THEY COULD PULL THIS OFF ON SOME LITTLE OLD LADY BUT NOT SOMEONE THAT KNOWS SOMETHING ABOUT CARS. HE WENT AND TALKED TO THE GUY THAT WORKED ON THE CAR AND HE SAID THEY DIDN'T REPLACE IT, THEY PUT DYE IN AND TEST DROVE IT AND DIDN'T FIND A LEAK. WELL BY THE TIME I GOT HOME THERE WAS OIL ALL OVER AGAIN. IN OTHER WORDS, THEY DID NOT WANT TO FIX IT BECAUSE WE BOUGHT IT OUT OF STATE. THE CAR ONLY HAD 3500 MILES ON IT. THE OTHER PROBLEM WAS THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS DID NOT WORK ON HIGH. YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE IN FLORIDA WHEN IT RAINS WITHOUT WIPERS THAT WORK ON HIGH. AFTER 3 TRIES, THEY FINALLY HAD TO CUT THE WIRING HARNESS BECAUSE IT WAS ALL CORRODED. I SURE AM GLAD I SPENT $70,000 FOR A BRAND NEW CAR. I WOULD NEVER TAKE ANOTHER VEHICLE TO LOTT MATHER CHEVROLET IN HAINES'S CITY, FL OR RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE. AS FOR BUYING MY DREAM CAR.......LEMON! *JB
