I HAVE A STRONG FUEL SMELL AFTER FILLING MY TANK MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN SITTING STILL OR PARKED.
MY 2008 CHEVY CORVETTE HAS A BAD GAS SMELL EVERYTIME I GET IN AND OUT OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE READ THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE AND ITS CAUSED BY THE PLASTIC USED FOR THE GAS TANK. GETS A CRACK AND LEAKS FROM THE BACK DOWN TO THE EXHAUST. POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD. LET ME KNOW ASAP OF ANY RECALLS ETC. THANK YOU
GASOLINE/FUEL ODOR WITH FULL TO HALF FULL FUEL TANK. ODOR IN INTERIOR AND AROUND EXTERIOR OF VEHICLE. RESEARCH VIA INTERNET INDICATES PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD.
PARKING MY COUPE INSIDE MY ATTACHED GARAGE, AFTER DRIVING HER (VETTE) THE DAY BEFORE. THE NEXT MORNING I OPEN MY ENTRY DOOR THAT LEADS INTO GARAGE. AFTER OPENING DOOR I IMMEDIATELY SMELL THE UNIQUE AROMA OF GASOLINE/FUEL EMMITING THROUGHOUT MY ENTIRE GARAGE. I DID OBSERVE DROPLETS OF GASOLINE ON MY GARAGE FLOOR BELOW COMING FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE FUEL TANK.
VALVE GUIDES ON HEADS WERE OUT OF SEPCIFICATION AND WIGGLED VISIBLY WITH SLIGHT SIDE PRESSURE, EVEN WHEN LOADED. HEADS R&R'D AT A COST OF $2500
WHILE THE VEHICLE IS PARKED, ESPECIALLY AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK, THE VEHICLE EMITS THE STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE. THE SMELL OF GASOLINE FILLS MY GARAGE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED OVERNIGHT. THE CONCERN IS THAT THE VEHICLE MAY CATCH FIRE IF EXPOSED TO A SPARK OR SOME OTHER TYPE OF HEAT SOURCE SUCH AS THE VEHICLE'S EXHAUST. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE.
THE LS7 ENGINE HAS A DEFECT THAT CAUSES ACCELERATED VALVE GUIDE WEAR. CONTINUING TO DRIVE THE CAR WILL EVENTUALLY LEAD TO A VALVE DROPPING AND CAUSING CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. ONCE THIS OCCURS THERE WILL BE A LOSS OF POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES, AND WATER/OIL COULD GET ON THE TIRES LEADING TO A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE CAR. IN A FEW CASES FIRE HAS ERUPTED. BAD FUEL SMELL AFTER FILLING UP CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED STRONG FUEL FUMES INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
SMELL OF RAW FUEL IN AND AROUND CAR.
FUEL SPILLED ON AUTO FILL SHUT OFF. THE C6 IS RALLY FULL WHEN THE PUMP SHUT OFF AND HAVE MINOR SPILLS ON FILL UPS. *TR
ENGINE WAS MISFIRING WITH CEL CODE SHOWING. MECHANIC DECIDED IT WAS A MECHANICAL ISSUE, WHILE CHECKING VALVES AND VALVE GUIDES ON CYLINDER 6, REMOVED SPRINGS AND EXHAUST VALVE WAS LOOSE IN VALVE GUIDE, EASILY MOVED SIDE TO SIDE IN VALVE GUIDE. IN CASES WHERE THE VALVE HEAD HAS BROKEN OFF, ENGINE SEIZES AND LOSS OF POWER BRAKES AND STEERING RESULTS AS WELL AS LOSS OF COOLANT AND OIL ONTO ROAD. VERY DANGEROUS COMBINATION OF EVENTS AT HIGHWAY SPEED. AFTER REMOVING HEADS TO HAVE THEM REPAIRED, FOUND THAT THE CASE HARDENING ON THE LIFTERS HAD BECOME COMPROMISED AND DAMAGED THE CAMSHAFT. ENGINE REPLACED
THERE IS A GASOLINE LEAK SOMEWHERE ON THE CAR THAT IS FILLING THE GARAGE WITH A VERY STRONG GASOLINE SMELL. THERE IS NO GAS ON THE GARAGE FLOOR. I SUSPECT A VAPOR LEAK AT THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK AT THE FUEL PUMP/GAGE SENDER LOCATION. CAR IS NOW PARKED OUTSIDE FOR FEAR OF FIRE IN THE GARAGE. HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE CHEVROLET DEALER ON MONDAY 5-4-15 TO FIND LEAK AND REPAIR. CURRENTLY BELIEVE THIS COULD BE A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM! *TR
I ENTERED GARAGE AFTER CAR BEING IN GARAGE ALL NIGHT, GARAGE WAS FILLED WITH GASOLINE FUMES. *TR
I DROVE FROM GADSDEN AL. TO CHATTANOOGA TN. FOR A CAR SHOW AT COKER TIRE. I HAD NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES WITH MY 2008 CORVETTE Z06 BEFORE. I PARKED THE CAR AND IT SAT FOR APPROX 5 HRS. AS THE GROUP OF PEOPLE I WAS WITH BEGAN LEAVING. I ENTERED THE CORVETTE SAT DOWN BUCKLED UP PUSH THE CLUTCH PEDAL DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR.WHEN I PRESSED THE START BUTTON THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD. I SLAMMED MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND SHUT THE IGNITION OFF. I ALMOST RAN THRU A CROWD OF PEOPLE. WHEN I SETTLED DOWN I REALIZED THE CLUTCH PEDAL WAS STUCK ON THE FLOOR. THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER HAD FAILED.(BUT STILL ALLOWED THE CAR TO BE STARTED IN GEAR A MAJOR DESIGN FLAW) IT DID NOT RELEASE THE CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATE AS WAS DESIGNED TO DO. THE CAR WAS PUSHED DOWN BY HAND TO THE COKER GARAGE. I CAME BACK MONDAY .WITH MY TRAILER AND HAULED IT BACK TO GADSDEN AL.( I CALLED GM AND OPENED A CASE #[XXX]. I EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED THEY SEEM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE INCIDENT AND WANTED TO KNOW IF ANYONE WAS HURT. I TOLD THE GM REP THAT WAS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE DESIGN OF THE CORVETTE CLUTCH SYSTEM THEY DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS WAS AN ISSUE WAS VERY EVASIVE DID NOT ANSWER MY QUESTIONS. I DROPPED THE CORVETTE OFF AT CHEVROLET OF GADSDEN AND DISCUSSED THE INCIDENT WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER. HE SAID HE WOULD WAIT FOR A REPLY FROM GM. I WAS INFORMED THE NEXT DAY THAT GM WOULD NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE REPAIR OR ADMIT THERE WAS A SAFETY CONCERN I WAS TOLD THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER AND LABOR WERE $900. I WILL HAVE IT REPAIRED ELSEWHERE I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF CASE OF CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER FAILURE ON ALL TYPES OF GM VEHICLES BUT THE CORVETTE Z06 IS THE WORST . IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOME ONE WILL DIE ( OR PROBABLY HAS ALREADY) BECAUSE OF GM REFUSAL TO ADMIT AND RECALL THE VEHICLES TO BE FIXED. I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT EXCESSIVE VALVE TRAIN NOISE AND AFTER READING SEVERAL CORVETTE FORUM THREADS ABOUT IMPROPERLY MACHINED HEADS BY GM'S SUPPLIER LINAMAR, AND THAT NUMEROUS VEHICLES HAVE HAD VALVES DROP AND RUIN THE ENGINES, LOOSING A VALVE WHILE DRIVING WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF POWER ASSIST FOR STEERING AND BREAKING WHILE ON THE ROAD . I TOOK MY CAR WITH 13500 MILES ON IT TO A CORVETTE SPECIALTY SHOP TO HAVE MY VALVE GUIDE CLEARANCE TESTED. I HAD (8) EXHAUST VALVE GUIDE AND (3) INTAKE VALVE GUIDES OUTSIDE OF SERVICE SPECIFICATIONS, AND A COMBINATION OF (5) OTHER INTAKE VALVE GUIDES AT OR NEAR THE MAXIMUM OUTSIDE OF SERVICE SPECIFICATIONS. THE CAR IS BEING REPAIRED WITH PROPER RE-MACHINING OF THE HEADS TO MAKE THE VALVE GUIDES CONCENTRIC, NEW INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVE GUIDES INSTALLED, AS WELL AS NEW SEALS, VALVES, SPRINGS, ETC. I CAN PROVIDE DATA ON THE FAILED GUIDES FOR DOCUMENTATION 88% OF THE CORVETTE FORUM MEMBERS WHO HAVE HAD THEIR CYLINDER HEADS TESTED FOR EXCESSIVE VALVE GUIDE WEAR, WERE OUT OF SERVICE SPECIFICATIONS. GM IS VERY AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, BUT REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS HUGE SAFETY RISK TO DRIVERS, PASSENGERS, AND NEARBY VEHICLES IF THE ENGINE FAILS GOING DOWN THE ROAD. *TR
DRIVING NORMAL CITYSTREETS 25MPH WHEN ENGINE NOISE STARTED,WENT ANOTHER 2 BLOCKS,ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING,TOWED TO CHEVY DEALER. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON MAJOR HIGHWAY,POSSIBLE CATASTROPHIC EFFECTS.NO POWER STEERING ,BRAKES,ENGINE OIL ON ROADWAY,STEERING WHEEL LOCK,WRECKS ,INJURIES OR POSSIBLE FATALITIES. HAD TO HAVE THE HEADS REWORKED BECAUSE OF BAD GUIDES AT 13,500 MILES. CAR OUT OF WARRANTY GM DOES NOTHING AND CLAIMS THERE ISN'T A PROBLEM. COULD NOT GET MY CAR OUT OF PARK. *TR
RECENTLY BOUGHT A USE 2008 CORVETTE. WENT TO DEALERSHIP TO PICK UP AND AS I APPROACHED VEHICLE A VERY STRONG ODOR WAS EMITTING FROM THE VEHICLE AND ONCE I OPENED THE DOOR THE ORDER WAS STRONGLY PRESENT INSIDE ALSO. I ORIGINALLY FIGURED THAT THE SALESMAN HAD OVER FILLED THE TANK SINCE HE SAID HE WOULD FILL THE VEHICLE WITH GAS AS PART OF THE SALE. THE ODOR CONTINUED FOR SEVERAL DAYS, EVEN AS THE GAS WAS USED. I DROVE THE VEHICLE AND TRIED SEVERAL REFILLS (ENSURING NOT TO TOP OFF) BUT THE ODOR IS STILL PRESENT. NO MATTER THE VOLUME OF GAS IN THE TANK THE STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE IS PRESENT OUTSIDE AND INSIDE. RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET REVEALED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM FROM OTHER OWNERS OF THAT MODEL (C6) INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH A DEFECTIVE FUEL LINE (ELBOW ON THE TOP OF THE DRIVERS SIDE GAS TANK COMING FROM THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM AND ASSOCIATED SEALS/GASKETS). THERE IS EVEN A YOUTUBE VIDEO BY AN OWNER SHOWING THE PROBLEM AND HIS PERSONAL REPAIR OF THE DEFECT. I SAW THAT THE REPAIR CAN COST AN OWNER UPWARDS OF $4K DOLLARS. SINCE THIS DEFECT IS SO PREVALENT AND OBVIOUSLY NOT SOMETHING THAT CAN BE CAUSED BY OWNERS NEGLIGENCE, THESE VEHICLES SHOULD BE RECALLED BY THE MANUFACTURER AND REPAIRED. THIS CONDITION IS A FIRE HAZARD AND SHOULD BE LOOKED AT IMMEDIATELY.
WHILE PARKED IN THE GARAGE AFTER DRIVING THERE IS A STRONG GAS ODOR EMANATING FROM THE VEHICLE. *TR
DRIVER SIDE FUEL TANK IS LEAKING FUEL. LIFTED DRIVER SIDE AND CAN VISUALLY SEE THE TANK IS WET FROM FUEL LEAK. *TR
I HAVE WRITTEN BEFORE ON THIS PROBLEM. DO YOU FOLKS EVER ACKNOWLEDGE RECEIPT OF A COMPLAINT. THE CAR HAS A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE UNTIL THE TANK IS HALF EMPTY. THIS IS A LARGE PROBLEM AFFECTING MANY CORVETTE OWNERS AND THE FUMES ARE VERY BAD INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CAR. THERE WAS NO DATE OF INCIDENT AND IT DID NOT ARISE FROM ANY ACCIDENT. *TR
GAS SMELL IN CAR AND GARAGE. *TR
CATASTROPHIC ABS SYSTEM FAILURE. WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 30 MPH ON DRY PAVEMENT, THE TAIL END OF THE CAR SUDDENLY FISHTAILED LEFT THEN RIGHT, TURNING AROUND 180 DEGREES, TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL. THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL STRUCK THE CURB OF THE MEDIAN, SEVERELY BENDING THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL, AND DAMAGING THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL BEARING TOO. UPON EXAMINATION OF THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE AND MAIN ENGINE HARNESS PLUG THAT CONNECTS TO IT, I FOUND MASSIVE ELECTRICAL DAMAGE WITH A HOLE BURNED COMPLETELY THROUGH THE PLUG AND RECEPTACLE, AND PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD OF THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE. THE ENTIRE ABS PUMP ASSEMBLY AND EBCM HAD TO BE REPLACED AND A NEW PLUG SPLICED INTO THE MAIN ENGINE HARNESS. I NOTIFIED GM BUT THEY REFUSED TO STAND BEHIND THE PRODUCT OR HELP WITH THE REPAIR.
STARTED NOTICING A STRONG SMELL OF GAS A FEW WEEKS AGO IN MY GARAGE WHERE I PARK MY CAR. I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS LAWN EQUIPMENT, OR MY MOTOR BIKE. I TOOK ALL THOSE OUT ONE AT A TIME OVER NIGHT, AND STILL NOTICED THE SMELL. LEFT MY CAR OUT OVER NIGHT, NO SMELL, PUT BACK IN THE GARAGE, AND THE SMELL CAME BACK! FILLS THE WHOLE GARAGE AND HOUSE AFTER ABOUT 12 HOURS!!! IN SEARCHING THE CORVETTE FORUMS, IT APPEARS THAT MANY OTHERS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. IT APPEARS TO BE THE FUEL PUMP WHERE THE FUEL LINE HOOKS UP, GETS SMALL HAIR LINE CRACKS. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A HUGE FIRE HAZARD! *TR
I HAVE A FUEL SMELL/ODOR COMING FROM MY 2008 CORVETTE COUPE WHEN I FILL THE TANK TO FULL. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND IT COST ME OVER $1400 TO REPAIR. THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS A SMALL PLASTIC PART ON TOP OF THE DRIVERS SIDE TANK THAT WAS FAULTY. I WOULD NOTICE THE STRONG SMELL WHEN THE CAR WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE.
I BEGAN TO NOTICE A STRONG GASOLINE SMELL NEXT TO MY REAR DRIVER'S SIDE OF MY 2008 CHEVY CORVETTE COUPE. I JUST DID A SEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND NUMEROUS OTHERS WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT FOR THE SAME MODEL. SEEMS THE FUEL TANK LEAKS AFTER CRACKS DEVELOP. *TR
MY 2008 C6 CORVETTE HAS A PROBLEM WITH A FUEL SMELL COMING FROM CAR WHEN I FILL THE TANK. I PARKED THE CAR IN THE GARAGE AFTER A REFILL ONE EVENING. MY WIFE RETURNED HOME FROM WORK A COUPLE OF HOURS LATER AND WHEN SHE OPENED THE GARAGED SHE WAS OVERWHELMED BY THE GAS FUMES, AFTERWARDS I PARKED MY CAR OUTSIDE OF THE GARAGE. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT I HAD A LEAKING FUEL PUMP AND I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE PUMP AS WELL AS THE LEFT FUEL TANK (REPAIR COST ESTIMATE $2900). THE MECHANIC STATED THAT HE'D CHANGED SEVERAL OF PUMPS ON C6 CORVETTES IN THE PAST. SO I ASKED HIM IF THIS WAS SUCH A FREQUENT OCCURRENCE, WAS CHEVROLET AWARE OF THE THIS SAFETY ISSUE. THIS WAS THE RESPONSE " I CANNOT ANSWER THAT QUESTION SIR". I TRULY BELIEVE THIS A SAFETY DEFECT THAT MAY CAUSE SOMEONE THEIR LIFE ONE DAY. EITHER WITH SOMEONE PARKING THE CAR IN THE GARAGE IN THE FUMES MAY CAUSE THE HOT HEATER TO IGNITE THE FUMES OR IT LEAKS DOWN ONTO AN HOT EXHAUST WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE. *TR
VERY STRONG FUEL ODOR COMING OUT OF REAR DRIVER SIDE. ODOR SEEMS STRONGER WHEN FUEL TANK IS AT 80% OR MORE. *TR
GASOLINE SMELL INSIDE THE VEHICLE IT SITS WITH THE WINDOWS UP. USUALLY MORE NOTICEABLE AFTER FILLING WITH FUEL. *TR
WHEN THE FUEL TANKS ARE MORE THAN HALF FULL, THERE IS A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THIS IS APPARENTLY AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE C6 FUEL TANKS, AS IT HAS BEEN RAISED BY MANY PEOPLE IN VARIOUS ONLINE FORUMS. THIS PROBLEM ALSO OCCURRED IN THE C FUEL, AND I WAS TOLD WAS FIXED VIA A RECALL. HAS THIS PROBLEM PROMPTED ANY RECALL ACTIVITIES FOR THE C6. THE DEALER WANTS OVER $3000 TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
THERE IS A VERY STRONG FUEL SMELL IN MY CORVETTE AFTER FUELING UP. THE CABIN SMELLS LIKE RAW FUEL, AND IT PERMEATES THE GARAGE FOR A FEW DAYS. THE ISSUE SEEMS TO SUBSIDE AFTER THERE IS LESS FUEL IN THE CAR. *TR
I WOULD LIKE TO FILE A COMPLAINT DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS OVER BAD HEADS AND VALVES PUT INTO A PERCENTAGE OF THESE CORVETTE Z06 CARS. GM HAS ADMITTED THERE IS AN ISSUE AND YET REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THERE WAS A MACHINING ERROR WITH THESE HEADS AND THE ENGINES CAN DROP A VALVE WITHOUT WARNING OR SYMPTOMS AND WITHOUT PULLING YOUR MOTOR APART THERE IS NO WAY TO DETERMINE IF YOUR CAR IS AFFECTED OR NOT. THE FACT IS NOW THAT AN INCREASING PERCENTAGE OF THESE CARS ARE LOSING THEIR ENGINES AND REPLACEMENT COST IS OVER 17000.00. SHOULD THE ENGINE GO IT COULD LEAD TO A SERIOUS CRASH FROM THE ROD PUNCTURING THE BLOCK AND SPREADING OIL UNDER AND AROUND THE CAR WHICH NOT ONLY AFFECTS THE CAR IN QUESTION BUT ANY OTHERS FOLLOWING IT AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THERE HAVE BEEN SOME THAT HAVE GONE OFF THE ROAD BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE AND IT IS TAKING ANY OF THE JOY OF OWNING OR DRIVING THIS CAR AT ALL. GM WILL NOT EVEN TELL ANYONE OUT OF WARRANTY WHAT TO DO TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM AND WHEN SOME HEADS WERE REPLACED BY GM FOR CARS UNDER WARRANTY, SOME WERE FOUND TO HAVE BAD TOLERANCES BEFORE EVEN BEING INSTALLED. GM HAS NOW GONE ON TO THEIR NEW MODEL Z06 AND IS SIMPLY HOPING THIS ISSUE GOES AWAY WHILE THROWING ALL THEIR LOYAL CUSTOMERS UNDER THE BUS SO TO SPEAK. CANNOT PARK CAR IN GARAGE DUE TO HIGH GAS VAPORS. CANNOT OPERATE CAR WHEN TANK IS FULL DUE TO STRONG VAPORS INSIDE CAR. GOOGLE ADVISES MANY PEOPLE HAVING SAME ISSUES. I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT EXCESSIVE VALVE TRAIN NOISE AND AFTER READING SEVERAL CORVETTE FORUM THREADS ABOUT IMPROPERLY MACHINED HEADS BY GM'S SUPPLIER LINAMAR, AND THAT NUMEROUS VEHICLES HAVE HAD VALVES DROP AND RUIN THE ENGINES, I TOOK MY CAR WITH 27000 MILES ON IT TO A CORVETTE SPECIALTY SHOP TO HAVE MY VALVE GUIDE CLEARANCE TESTED. I HAD (2) INTAKE VALVE GUIDES OUTSIDE OF SERVICE SPECIFICATIONS, (4) EXHAUST VALVE GUIDES OUTSIDE OF SERVICE SPECIFICATIONS, AND A COMBINATION OF (10) OTHER INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVE GUIDES AT OR NEAR THE MAXIMUM OUTSIDE OF SERVICE SPECIFICATIONS. THE CAR IS BEING REPAIRED WITH PROPER RE-MACHINING OF THE HEADS TO MAKE THE VALVE GUIDES CONCENTRIC, NEW INTAKE AND EXHAUST VALVE GUIDES INSTALLED, AS WELL AS NEW SEALS, VALVES, SPRINGS, ETC. 88% OF THE CORVETTE FORUM MEMBERS WHO HAVE HAD THEIR CYLINDER HEADS TESTED FOR EXCESSIVE VALVE GUIDE WEAR, WERE OUT OF SERVICE SPECIFICATIONS. I NOTICED MY FUEL TANK LEAKING FUEL ON THE FLOOR IN MY GARAGE, MY GARAGE SMELLING LIKE FUEL, AND INCREASED FUEL CONSUMPTION. I TOOK MY CAR TO A SHOP AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP AND TANK (OUT OF WARRANTY) BECAUSE THE CAR WAS LEAKING FUEL ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHERE THE FUEL PUMP CONNECTS TO THE FUEL TANK. *TR
CHECKED ENGINE HEADS AND VALVES DUE TO THE ONGOING ENGINE FAILURES OF THE LS7 ENGINE. NUMBER 7 INLET VALVE WAS FOUND TO BE STRESSED TO THE POINT OF IMMINENT FAILURE DUE TO THE FACTORY MACHINING BEING OUT OF ALIGNMENT WITH THE VALVE STEM AND THE VALVE SEAT. 2 OTHER INLET VALVES WERE FOUND NOT CONCENTRIC AND WERE REPLACED ALSO. THE EXHAUST VALVES WERE FOUND TO BE OUT OF FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS WITH THE VALVE GUIDES SO ALL 16 VALVE GUIDES AND 8 EXHAUST VALVES WERE REPLACED ALSO AND THE HEADS MACHINED TO FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS. WHEN THESE ENGINES FAIL, THE ENGINE STOPS AND YOU HAVE NO POWER STEERING OR VACUUM POWER TO THE BRAKES SO YOU STRUGGLE TO STOP THE CAR AND STEER IT TO A SAFE PLACE. THE ENGINE BLOCK, BEING ALUMINUM, NORMALLY VENTILATES WITH A CONROD OUT THE SIDE AND OIL AND COOLANT IS DEPOSITED ON THE ROAD SURFACE. NOT A GOOD SITUATION IN MY OPINION AS WE DRIVE OUR CAR ON MAJOR HIGHWAYS FAIRLY REGULARLY. EVIDENTLY WHEN THE GAS TANK IS 3/4 OR MORE FILLED WITH FUEL, THERE IS A LEAK WHICH DEPOSITS RAW GAS ON THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK, FROM WHICH IT DRIPS OR EVAPORATES. I SMELLED GASOLINE IN THE CABIN OF MY 2008 CHEVROLET CORVETTE COUPE BASE MODEL. I TOOK IT TO LONESTAR CHEVROLET TO CHECK OUT THE PROBLEM. THEY KEPT IT OVERNIGHT AND REPORTED NOT TO BE ABLE TO SMELL WHAT I SMELLED. THEY REPORTED TO HAVE DONE A "SMOKE TEST" AND CHECK ALL CONNECTIONS BUT WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANY PROBLEM. I HAVE NOT SMELLED IT AS MUCH SINCE BUT VERY FAINTLY A COUPLE OF TIMES. *TR
