TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING IN RAINY CONDITIONS AT ANY SPEED, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED. THE WIPER LINKAGE WAS REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V582000 (VISIBILITY). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. UPDATED 12/13/16*LJ UPDATED 12/19/16.*JB
SUDDEN INTERNAL FAILURE OF TRANSMISSION WITH AROUND 48,000 MILES ON VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, STARTED MAKING HIGH-PITCHED HUMMING NOISE, WOULDN'T ACCELERATE, AND THEN STOPPED MOVING/DRIVING BUT STAYED TURNED ON.
I WAS DRIVING IN A RAINSTORM AND THE WIPERS QUIT. THE REPAIR WAS $499. I LIVE IN FEAR THAT IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN ON A BUSIER HIGHWAY. I'N NOT SURE OF THE EXACT DATE.
WIPER TRANSMISSION FAILURE - I WAS DRIVING HOME ON THE EXPRESSWAY DURING HEAVY SNOW AND THE WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. WIPERS STOPPED IN THE UPWARD POSITION BLOCKING MY VIEW ALONG WITH THE SNOW. WAS DIFFICULT TO SEE MY WAY TO A SAFE PLACE TO STOP. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO HAVE THE WIPERS CHECKED TODAY AND WAS ADVISED THE WIPER TRANSMISSION FAILED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE SEAT BELT LOCKED ON THE DRIVER WITHOUT WARNING. THE SEAT BELT WOULD NOT RETRACT OR DETRACT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 93,000.
SERVICE AIRBAG HAS BEEN ON FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS; CURRENTLY THE PASSENGER AIRBAG "OFF" IS ILLUMINATED. I AM GOING TO ASSUME THAT MEANS THE PASSENGEER AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY DURING AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE BEEN READING ONLINE AND IT SEEMS LIKE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CHEVROLET EQUINOX AND CHEVY NOR GENERAL MOTORS HAVE PUT A RECALL ON THE DEFECTIVE AIR BAGS. DTC INCORRECT B0081 (RIGHT SIS INSTALLED) AND B0074 (PASSENGER OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SENSOR CIRCUIT) SEEMS TO BE THE CAUSE.
WAS SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT, VEHICLE ENGINE STARTED SURGING AND A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON SAYING REDUCED ENGINE POWER, HAD TO REALLY PUSH ON THE BREAK SO IT WOULD NOT LUNGE INTO THE INTER SECTION, LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I STARTED TO GO, BUT I COULD ONLY GET UP TO 25 MPH, THEN ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH CAME ALONG WITH A SERVICE STABILITRAK MESSAGE, MANAGED TO GET TO A PARKING LOT AND SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE FOR A FEW MINUTES, STARTED IT BACK UP AND IT RAN BETTER BUT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. TOOK IT TO THE CHEVY DEALER, HE NEW BEFORE EVEN LOOKING AT IT WHAT IT WAS. ENDED UP BEING THE THROTTLE BODY, IF YOU LOOK ONLINE THERE ARE MANY EQUINOX VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM. BUT GM WILL NOT COVER THIS UNDER THEIR POWER TRAIN WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THIS IS WHAT SUPPLIES AIR TO THE ENGINE.
DRIVING ON THE PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE 6:45AM TO WORK. 2-16-16 HEAVY RAIN 50 MI PER HOUR IN THE PASSING LANE THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS BROKE. FLOPPED OVER I COULD NOT SEE A THING IN FRONT OF ME I PUT THE WINDOW DOWN AND GRABBED THE WIPER TIP MANUALLY WORKED IT PUT ON MY FLASHERS HAD TO PULL GET OVER ON THE PASSENGER LANE THEN ONTO A PULL OVER MILE MARKER 307. I COULD NOT BELIEVE I WAS NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. HAD THE WIPERS WENT IN THE OTHER DIRECTION I WOULD NOT BE WRITING YOU AT THIS TIME. THIS WAS SO DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AS THERE ARE MANY MODELS THAT WILL START SEEING THIS HAPPEN IF IT IS A USAGE DEFECT? IT IS AT OUR CHEVY DEALERS SERVICE AT THIS MOMENT BEING REPAIRED I AM NOT SURE YET WHAT BROKE TO CAUSE THIS.
WHILE DRIVING INTO A PARKING LOT, MY ENGINE STARTING REVVING AND RUNNING VERY ROUGH. I LOST POWER AND CONTROL. THE ENGINE LIGHT AND STABILITRAK CONTROL WARNING CAME ON. FORTUNATELY, I WAS GOING SLOW, SO I WAS ABLE TO STOP AND TURN OFF THE CAR. I TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON AND THE STABILITRAK WARNING CAME BACK ON. TURNED IT BACK OFF AND LET IT SIT. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME WITH NO ISSUES, BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. FROM MY SHORT AMOUNT OF RESEARCH THIS SEEMS LIKE A COMMON, SERIOUS ISSUE. I HAVE A NEW, [XXX] YEAR OLD DRIVER WHO USES THIS CAR - NOT ANYMORE - UNTIL A FIX IS FOUND! MY ODOMETER JUST WENT OVER 30,000 LAST WEEK. TOOK IT IN FOR THE OIL CHANGE (RELIGIOUSLY EVERY 6 MONTHS, ALTHOUGH I ONLY DRIVE AROUND 3,000 DURING THAT TIME) AND THE REAR ENGINE SEAL IS LEAKING OIL. MY WARRANTY EXPIRES IN ONE WEEK. WE'RE TAKING IT IN FOR REPAIR BEFORE IT EXPIRES BUT I'M APPALLED THAT AN ENGINE WITH 30,000 MILES ON IT IS ALREADY LEAKING OIL. THE ONLY REASON WE'RE KEEPING IT IS BECAUSE IT'S PAID OFF. MY NEXT NEW CAR WILL NOT BE A CHEVROLET.
HAD MY CAR FIXED FOR THE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE AND A WEEK LATER I LOST POWER AND THE CAR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR. DEALERSHIP DENIED ANY THING WRONG WITH THE CAR.... AFTER HAVING IT TOWED BACK TO THEM, THEY FOUND THE THROTTLE BODY CONNECTORS WERE NO GOOD AND NEED A NEW WIRING KIT TO FIX. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS BECAUSE THIS COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, ALMOST HAPPENED TO ME! PLEASE RECALL THE 2011 EQUINOX AS A WHOLE, YOU OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T BUILD THIS CAR CORRECTLY.
UPON DRIVING MY CAR TO WORK WITH MY TWO KIDS IN THE CAR, MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING, THE DASHBOARD LIT UP "ENGINE POWER REDUCED" AS WELL AS STABILITRAC AND TRACTION CONTROL. THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE TO MORE THAN 20MPH AND THEN DIED ON ME. I CONTACTED GM, RECEIVED A CLAIM NUMBER AND THEY NEVER CALLED ME BACK AS PROMISED. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND CONTINUE ON MY WAY IN FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND MY CHILDREN. AS A RESULT OF THIS, I TOLD MY HUSBAND I WAS NOT COMFORTABLE DRIVING THIS UNSAFE VEHICLE WITH OUR KIDS IN THE CAR AND WE WOULD TRADE CARS UNTIL THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED. THE FOLLOWING MORNING MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE EQUINOX TO WORK AND IT HAPPENED TO HIM, "ENGINE POWER REDUCED" LOSS OF STABILITRAC/ TRACTION CONTROL. UNFORTUNATELY, HE WASN'T AS LUCKY AS ME AND WAS ON A TURN WHEN THIS SUDDENLY HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING HIM TO LOSE TRACTION, STEERING CONTROL AND CRASHING INTO A DITCH. NOW WE HAVE AN INSURANCE CLAIM TO DEAL WITH AND ONLY ONE CAR. GM IS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AS THEY HAD A RECALL ON THE PREVIOUS YEAR MODEL. NOT UNTIL 13 PEOPLE DIE WILL THEY DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT AS PROVEN IN THE PAST. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE, FAULTY DEADLY VEHICLES! BY THE WAY, NEARLY 48 HOURS LATER AND I HAVE STILL NOT HEARD BACK FROM GM AFTER A PROMISE OF A CALL BACK WITHIN 2 HOURS!
THE CAR STOPPED SHIFTING GEARS AND STOPPED MOVING GOING DOWN THE STREET. UPON STOPPING THE CAR IN A SAFE LOCATION, THE CAR WOULD NOT GO IN REVERSE. HAD I BEEN IN BUSY TRAFFIC OR MERGING ONTO AN EXPRESSWAY, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY SERIOUS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE 35R CLUTCH WAVE PLATE HAD FAILED CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,000. UPDATED 05/03/16*LJ *JS
THE MOTOR MOUNTS ON MY 2011 CHEVROLET EQUINOX ARE EITHER LOOSE OR ARE MISSING IN MY CAR. THE MOTOR SHAKES WHEN I COME TO A STOP AND WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND HIT MY BRAKES AGAIN THE SHAKING STOPS, AND MY CAR SOUNDS LIKE IT IS MISSING.
WHILE DRIVING THE DISPLAY ON THE DASH DISPLAYED THE WORDS "POWERING DOWN" AND THEN THE CAR PROCEEDS TO SLOW TO A COMPLETE STOP. ALL WHILE I'M DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN TRAFFIC. THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP IN MCKINNEY, EL DORADO, ADVISED ME THAT THE ENGINE SIMPLY FELL APART AND BROKE. I JUST GOT A TUNE UP AND OIL CHANGE WITHIN THE PAST 60 DAYS...HOW CAN AN ENGINE JUST FALL APART WITH NO INDICATION, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, NO SMOKE, ETC.
I WAS DRIVING TO GET MY 3 SMALL KIDS FROM AFTER SCHOOL AND MY 2011 CHEVY EQUINOX STARTED LOSING POWER. COULD NOT GO OVER 35 MPH.CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON, THEN THE STABILITRAK LIGHT FOLLOWED BY REDUCE ENGINE AND IT HAD VIBRATION. THE CAR WAS IN MOTION. I GOT TO THE STOP SIGN AND IT VIBRATED. I PULLED OVER AND WAS SCARED TO CUT IT OFF. THEN AFTER ABOUT 2 MINS I WAS ABLE TO PULL OF SLOWLY BY THE CAR STALLED. AND I STILL COULDN'T GO OVER 35MPH. SLOWLY MADE IT TO MY KIDS SCHOOL AND I COULD HERE CLUNKY NOISES. I CUT OFF, AFTER 5 MINS I WAS ABLE TO CRANK, THE ONLY LIGHT THAT WAS ON WAS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND ITS STIL ON. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE REGULAR BUT STILL HAD A LITTLE VIBRATION. I DO NOT HAVE WARRANTY AND IM A SINGLE MOTHER OF 3 SMALL KIDS FROM AGE 18MONTHS - 9YEARS OLD. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO. I CANT AFFORD ANY REPAIRS. I JUST GOT THIS VEHICLE JANUARY 30, 2015
WAS DRIVING THE CAR AT APPROXIMATELY 40MPH WHEN THE ENGINE SHOOK AND SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 30MPH AND THE RPMS SHOT UP TO 5,000. I JUST GOT THE VEHICLE BACK FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAD JUST REPLACED THE BALANCE SHAFT CHAIN AND TENSIONER & HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP TO HOPEFULLY REMEDY THE SAME PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED WITH APPRX 52K MILES. 11/27/15. I FIRST BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN ON 12/11/15 AND IT WAS RETURED AFTER 4 DAYS AND NOT BEING ABLE TO "RECREATE" THE PROBLEM. I RETURNED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 1/4/2016 FOR THE SAME PROBLEM WHICH OCCURED ON NEW YEARS DAY. I JUST GOT THE CAR BACK AFTER REPAIRS ON 1/7/16 AND NOW TWO DAYS LATER THE PROBLEM HAS AGAIN OCCURED. THE LAST TIME IN THE SHOP THEY ALSO COULD NOT "DUPLICATE" THE ISSUE AFTER DRIVING APPRX 50 MILES, BUT I POINTED OUT THAT THE OIL WAS VERY DIRTY AND SMELLED LIKE GASOLINE WHICH THEY CHECKED AND CONFIRMED AND DID THE REPAIRS OF THE FUEL PUMP AND BALANCE CHAIN. THE ENGINE ISSUE IS STILL NOT RESOLVED AND I WILL BE RETURNING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN ON MONDAY. I JUST GOT PLATES TODAY BECAUSE MY 30 DAY TAG JUST EXPIRED.
IN JAN 5 2016 MY 2011 CHEVY EQUINOX MILEAGE 56747 WOULD JUST STALL WITHOUT WARNING AND I HAD NO CONTROL OF STEERING. DRIVING ON THE HWY IT JUST KILLED AND STARTED BUT DIDN'T WANT TO ACCELERATE AGAIN THEN STALLED AGAIN COULDN'T STEER. GOT IT TO RAY CHEVROLET IT WAS MY CAMSHAFT POSITION ACTUATOR SOLENOID VALVE IN SEPT.2016 MILEAGE 80584 I HAD IT TOWED AGAIN AND IT WAS THE CAMSHAFT POSITION ACTUATOR SOLENOID VALVES AND IT BURNT MY ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT AKA COMPUTER WHICH COST ME $800.00. SKIPPING FORWARD BUT NOT WITHOUT PROBLEMS THERE ARE MANY. AUG. 2019, I AM HAVING TO CHANGE CAMSHAFT POSITION ACTUATOR SOLENOID VALVES AGAIN DO TO STALLING ON THE ROAD WHILE I'M DRIVING NOT BEING ABLE TO STEER FOR THE THIRD TIME. IT'S SO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THIS CAR WITHOUT WARNING IT WILL KILL ON YOU FOR A NUMBER OF REASONS. THEN I WENT CHANGE MY OIL LIKE CLOCK WORK AND WAS TOLD I HAVE A VALVE COVER GASKET LEAK TO GO WITH THE SOLENOID PROBLEM. IT'S SO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE DUE TO THE FACT IT WILL STALL AT ANYTIME. IN AUG. 2019 MY PRESSURE SENSOR FOR MY RIGHT TIRE WENT OUT. NOW I CAN'T GET IT TO RESET AND MECHANIC TRIED AND SAID SENSOR NEEDS TO BE CHANGED REALLY. I CAN'T TELL IF I HAVE A LOW TIRE IT JUST SHOWS BLANK LINE ON ALL TIRES. NOW MY ACTUATOR BEND DOOR BROKE ON DEFROST AND IT'S HOT IN LOUISIANA. ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GET TO. THIS CAR NEEDS A RECALL REALLY BAD. THERE IS NEVER A TIME WHERE THE CAR JUST RAN GOOD WITH NO TROUBLE. THINGS THAT BROKE ON THIS CAR ARE LISTED BELOW. AIR CONTROL IAC VALUE, ACTUATOR BEND DOOR, VALVE COVER GASKET, COMPUTER, PRESSURE SENSOR, CV JOINTS, INTAKE & EXHAUST CAMSHAFT POSITION ACTUATOR SOLENOID <>THREE TIMES
I WAS IN CITY STREETS GOING 30 MPH AT MOST, 19 DEGREES IN MINNESOTA AND IT SHOWS REDUCED ENGINE POWER AND STABILTRACK OFF AS TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. THE ENGINE STARTS SHAKING VIOLENTLY AND I PULL OVER, RESTART IT AND IT GOES FOR A FEW BLOCKS AND THEN THE SAME WARNINGS COME ON (ENGINE LIGHT HAS GONE OFF AND ON INTERMITTENTLY FOR A FEW MONTHS WITH NO ISSUES.) AS MENTIONED, SPEED REDUCTION WAS STATED ON SCREEN AND I DRIVE SLOWLY AND WAS ONLY ABLE TO ACCELERATE SLOWLY. I JUST WENT THROUGH A CHEVROLET FORUM AND SEE THAT I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO'S HAD THESE SAME ISSUES AND LIGHTS AND WARNINGS POP UP ON THE SCREEN. LUCKILY I WAS NOT ON A HIGHWAY OR UNDER ANY OTHER SCARIER CONDITIONS AND WAS CLOSE TO HOME. MANY OTHERS HAVE SPENT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO TRY AND REMEDY THIS ISSUE AND, PER THE FORUM, HAVE ONLY BEEN ABLE TO DO THAT AFTER AT LEAST HAVING THE WARRANTY TO PAY FOR IT. I WAS DRIVING MY EQUINOX APPRX 40MPH DOWN A STRAIGHT ROAD WITH MY HUSBAND AND 2 KIDS WHEN THE DOOR LOCKS RANDOMLY UNLOCKED THEN LOCKED. MY HUSBAND AND I LOOKED AROUND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHO BUMPED THE LOCKS BUT REALIZED ONLY THE DRIVER COULDVE DONE THE AND I DID NOT BUMP THE LOCKS. SECONDS LATER THE CAR ENGINE SEEMED TO LOSE POWER AND QUICKLY STARTED SLOWING DOWN WHILE THE RPMS SHOT UP TO 3,000 AND THE ENGINE LET OUT A LOUD REVVVVVVVV. IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE TO ACCELERATE AT THIS TIME AND THE CAR WAS QUICKLY SLOWING DOWN TO 20MPH IN THE MIDDLE OF MY DRIVING LANE. TAKING INTO DEALERSHIP ON MONDAY. THIS HAPPENED ON NEW YEARS DAY. ALSO, I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS CAR FOR 5 WEEKS, I BOUGHT IT CERTIFIED PREOWNE FROM A CHEVY DEALERSHIP, AND 3 WEEKS AGO SOMETHING SIMILAR HAPPENED BUT DEALER COULD NOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM SO NO FIX WAS MADE.
CHEVROLET EQUINOX 2011 USES EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. I HAVE TO ADD OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. I KEEP EXTRA OIL ON HAND ALWAYS. THE CAR MAKES RATTLING NOISE AT START UP AND JUST DOESN'T SOUND GOOD WHEN RUNNING. IT RUNS SLUGGISHLY. I WASN'T AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. I ONLY HAD TO ADD OIL BETWEEN CHANGES TO MY PREVIOUS CAR WHEN IT WAS LEAKING ON THE GROUND. I WENT TO HAVE OIL CHANGED AND THERE WAS NONE ON THE DIPSTICK. I HAD NO IDEA. WHEN I ADD OIL THE RATTLING SEEMS TO GO AWAY FOR A WHILE. I CAN'T AFFORD TO BUY ANOTHER CAR OR REPLACE THE MOTOR IF THE OIL CONSUMPTION CAUSES THE NEED FOR THAT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WITH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ENGAGED AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO SEE IN FRONT OF HER AND HAD TO ROLL THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW DOWN TO SEE THE ROAD. THE CONTACT EXITED THE HIGHWAY AND DROVE THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BALL POPPED OUT OF SOCKET ON THE WINDSHIELD MECHANISM. THE MECHANIC POPPED THE BALL BACK INTO THE SOCKET. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WORKED AS DESIGNED; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DID NOT USE THE WIPERS AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.
AFTER ONLY 5 YEARS OF USE, I BELIEVE THAT THE BLENDER DOOR HAS STUCK IN THE CLOSED POSITION AND THE FRONT AND DRIVER-PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS HAVE FOGGED UP TO THE POINT THAT DRIVER CANNOT CONTINUE DRIVING. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SITUATION THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO PREVENT A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. VEHICLE WAS MOVING WHILE ON A CITY STREET.
FOR THE SECOND TIME SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE CAR NEW MAJOR ENGINE WORK WAS UNDERTAKEN. 1ST WAS A TIMING CHAIN WEAR ISSUE CAUSING ENGINE NOISE AT ABOUT 50K MILES. NEXT WAS A NEAR TOTAL ENGINE REBUILD DUE TO EXCESS OIL CONSUMPTION WHERE RINGS, BEARINGS, PISTONS ETC AT GM WARRANTY COST. ALL EXCEPT FOR CAM ACTUATORS FOR WHICH I WAS CHARGED $391. I PICKED UP THE CAR AND ALL SEEMED FINE. WITHIN 100 MILES OF PICKING UP THE CAR THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND A P0420 ENGINE CODE WAS LOGGED. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER WHEN I IMMEDIATELY RETURNED IT TO SEE WHAT HAD BEEN DONE WRONG THAT I NEEDED A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER, OXYGEN SENSORS AND NEW CAM ACTUATORS. (I JUST PAID $391 TO HAVE THEM REPLACED LESS THAN A WEEK AGO!!!) THE DEALER AND GM CUSTOMER SERVICE REFUSED TO ACCEPT THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE WARRANTY COVERED EXCESS OIL CONSUMPTION OR POSSIBLY NOT FOLLOWING THE DETAILED BLOCK CLEANING, AND RINSING PROCEDURE DESCRIBED IN THE TSB FOR THE ENGINE REBUILD. I TOOK THE COMPLAINT TO GM CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY STATED I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW CONVERTER AND I REFUSED SERVICE SO I HAVE NO RECOURSE BUT CONTACT MY AFTERMARKET WARRANTY MY DEALER PUSHED ON ME WHO HAS ALREADY REFUSED TO PAY FOR ANY FAILURES BECAUSE GM IN THEIR OPINION HAS ADMITTED FAULT BY ACKNOWLEDGING THEY HAVE A KNOWN OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE. SO I HAVE NO IDEA IF THE ORIGINAL REPAIR WAS DONE CORRECTLY, DO I REALLY NEED CAM ACTUATORS OR WERE THEY NEVER REPLACED IN THE FIRST PLACE? I WOULD GET RID OF THE VEHICLE IF I WAS NOT SO UPSIDE DOWN DUE TO THE WASTED MONEY I LET THE DEALER PUSH ON THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT HAS BEEN PROVED WORTHLESS.
I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND ENTERING THE HIGHWAY ON A SLIGHT RIGHT CURVE WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION AND BEGAN QUICKLY DECELERATING, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SHAKE. THE CAR WENT FROM 60MPH DOWN TO ABOUT 30 MPH, ALMOST AS IF IT HAD STALLED OR STOPPED WORKING SUDDENLY. THIS LASTED FR SEVERAL SECONDS, ACCELERATION WAS NOT POSSIBLE AT THIS TIME. VERY DANGEROUS. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE BUT DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. CAR WAS AT APPROXIMATELY 52,000 MILES. I PURCHASED IT CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED ONLY 3 WEEKS PRIOR FROM THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP. THERE WAS A SECOND SIMILAR INCIDENT 3 WEEKS LATER.
I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM/CHEVROLET IN AUGUST 2015 REGARDING OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUES IN MY 2011 CHEVROLET EQUINOX (SERVICE BULLETIN NO.: SB-15285). I AM CURRENTLY HAVING THIS ISSUE MONITORED FOR THIS AS I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE BRING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP EVERY 1,000 MILES FOR MONITORING BEFORE THEY WOULD DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS. IN THE MEANTIME I HAVE GOTTEN A CHECK ENGINE CODE P0420 WHICH RELATES TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. MY EQUINOX HAS JUST AT 84,500 MILES ON IT AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WARRANTY IS ONLY 80,000. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER THIS MORNING AND WAS TOLD THE CONVERTER NEEDED REPLACING. AFTER SPEAKING WITH MULTIPLE DEALERSHIPS AND MECHANICS I UNDERSTAND AND HAVE BEEN TOLD MULTIPLE TIMES THAT THE OIL CONSUMPTION AND PISTON ISSUES HAVE CAUSED THIS PROBLEM YET GM/CHEVROLET IS TELLING ME THEY WILL ONLY HELP ME APPROXIMATELY $200 TO HELP WITH THE NEW CONVERTER. THEY MUST KNOW THIS IS WHAT'S CAUSED THIS ISSUE AS IT APPEARS THAT A LOT THE 2010 EQUINOX HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AND PROBLEMS. I WOULD REALLY LIKE FOR GM/CHEVROLET TO FIX THE CONVERTER ON MY EQUINOX AT 100% THEIR COST AS IT HAS HAD MULTIPLE OTHER ISSUES INCLUDING TRANSMISSION (COVERED UNDER A BULLETIN LISTED ON YOUR SITE HERE) , CAMSHAFT ACTUATOR (COVERED UNDER A BULLETIN LISTED ON YOUR SITE HERE), ETC. THE CONVERTER PER QUOTES ARE ANYWHERE FROM $600-$1,200 WHICH IS A LOT OF MONEY FOR AN ISSUE THAT WAS CAUSED BY THE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE THEY KNOW ABOUT, BUT HAVE TO MONITOR FIRST BEFORE THEY WILL FIX IT.
THIS IS A FWD MODEL WITH 2.4L ENGINE. THE TRANSMISSION 3-5-R PLATE FAILED AT 67,000 MILES AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS RUINED. WHEN IT FAILED IT CAUSED ACCELERATION AND SPEED PROBLEMS WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY BUT THERE WAS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT INITIALLY. THE CAR LIMPED A FEW MILES HOME STALLING OUT COMPLETELY ONCE A BLOCK FROM HOME, IT WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIRS. I WAS THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE IT WAS PURCHASED 06/11/2011. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAD OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUES AND ROUGH IDLE AT THIS TIME. THE VEHICLE HAD ITS CAM SHAFT ACTUATORS REPLACED IN AUGUST 2011 AFTER THE ENGINE MADE VERY LOUD NOISES WITH ABOUT 2000 MILES ON THE CAR. I TRADED THE CAR IN 3 DAYS AFTER THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE I DID NOT TRUST THE CAR.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 136,000.

THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WILL NOT UNLOCK.
I PURCHASED MY 2011 CHEVY EQUINOX IN MARCH 2014 AT 40,000 MILES. IN THAT TIME I HAVE ONLY ADDED 16,000. IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS OR SO I HAVE HAD MANY ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE. THERE WAS A TICKING FOR A PERIOD OF TIME AFTER PARKING AND SHUTTING OFF THE VEHICLE, A ROUGH/LOUD RUNNING OF THE ENGINE, INCONSISTENT TIMES OF A 'WHIRRING' TYPE SOUND, AND A BUCKING OF THE VEHICLE DURING ACCELERATING AND DECELERATING SO ROUGH THAT I THOUGHT I HAD BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND A FEW TIMES. WHEN WE INQUIRED ABOUT THESE THINGS FROM THE DEALER WE PURCHASED FROM WE WERE TOLD THAT EVERYTHING WAS 'NORMAL' AND THAT'S WHAT A CHEVY SOUNDS LIKE. IN AUGUST THE COMPRESSOR FOR THE AIR CONDITIONER WENT AND WE THOUGHT PERHAPS THAT WAS CAUSING MOST OF THE ISSUES AND SPENT QUITE A LOT OF MONEY TO FIX THAT. IT DID SEEM TO RUN A LITTLE BETTER FOR A FEW WEEKS. TODAY I WAS DRIVING DOWN A 30 MPH ROAD AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 20 MPH GOING STRAIGHT DOWN THE ROAD. THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WENT TO THE CLOSEST GARAGE AS I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE OTHER END OF THE NEXT TOWN FROM WHERE I WAS. I BARELY MADE IT TO THE GARAGE. THEY HOOKED IT UP TO A SCAN AND DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. NOW I AM FINDING OUT THAT I AM OUT OF WARRANTY BY LESS THAN ONE MONTH. THIS APPEARS TO BE A CONSISTENT PROBLEM IN THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE FROM WHAT I HAVE NOW FOUND AND SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN WITH ONLY 56,000 MILES ON IT. I DO NOT DRIVE LONG DISTANCES OR EVEN ON A DAILY BASIS, AS THE FACT THAT I HAVE ONLY ADDED 16,000 MILES IN THE LAST 19 MONTHS CAN ATTEST. I AM EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED WITH THE ENTIRE SITUATION, ESPECIALLY SINCE I HAD TOLD THE DEALERSHIP MONTHS AGO THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE THAT THEY DIDN'T BOTHER TO LOOK INTO AND CONVENIENTLY CAN NO LONGER FIND RECORD OF. NEITHER THE DEALER OR CHEVY WERE HELPFUL.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR STALLED OUT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE POSSIBLE CAUSE WAS A CAM SHAFT SENSOR. BUT ON FURTHER INVESTIGATION IT WAS BECAUSE THE CAR WAS LOW ON OIL. THERE WAS NO INDICATION FROM THE VEHICLE INFORMATION SYSTEM THAT THE CAR DID NOT HAVE ANY OIL. IT JUST STOPPED WITHOUT WARNING THREE TIMES, ALWAYS AFTER SLOWING DOWN FOR A TURN. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE, I WAS ALMOST HIT TWICE!
THE CAR DOORS WILL NOT STAY LOCKED. AFTER LOCKING THE CAR OVER NIGHT WITH THE KEY FOB I WILL GO OUTSIDE AND FIND MY CAR UNLOCKED. UNSURE IF THIS AFFECTS THE CHILD SAFETY LOCK FEATURE ON THE REAR DOORS. THE CAR IS STATIONARY SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY. THIS ISSUES HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR SOME TIME NOW. MY CAR WAS LOCKED OVERNIGHT AND THIS MORNING I FOUND IT UNLOCKED AND SOMEONE HAD GONE THROUGH IT.
THE DRIVERS SEAT POWER ADJUSTER CAME UNSCREWED AND THE SEAT DROPPED DOWN. THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE, BUT THIS VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE FIXED THE ISSUE TWICE NOW SINCE DECEMBER 2014. I HAVE PICTURES.

VEHICLE KEEPS SHOWING SERVICE AIR BAG AND MAKES A DIGGING NOTIFICATION NOISE WHILE DRIVING AND I HAVE NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN A ACCIDENT

I DID NOT SEE THE DOOR COMING DOWN, NO BEEPING....IT HIT THE TOP OF MY HEAD AND KEPT GOING DOWN PUSHING ME TO THE GROUND. I HAD A CONCUSSION AND THE AMBULANCE TOOK ME TO THE HOSPITAL BEING AS I HAD BEEN UNCONSCIOUS. SPENT ONE DAY IN THE HOSPITAL WITH LOTS OF TESTS TO SEE IF MY SPINE WAS DAMAGED. I WAS DRIVING 79MPH DOWN INTERSTATE 295 WHEN A VOULCHER FLEW INTO MY FRONT DRIVER SIDE LOWER CAR PANEL CAUSING THE AIR BAG CANISTER TO DEPLOY BUT NOT THE AIRBAG ITSELF. THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND THE SERVICE AIRBAG CAME UP ON MY DISPLAY. I CONTACTED STATE PATROL AND THEY CAME OUT TO SEE THE DAMAGE BUT COULD NOT FILE A REPORT. I DO HOWEVER, HAVE THE STATE PATROL OFFICERS NAME AND EMAIL ADDRESS. I HAD TO GET MY CAR TOWED AND TAKEN TO A GARAGE WHERE AN AIRBAG SPECIALIST CAME OUT AND CLAIMED THAT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM WAS MESSED UP AND IT HAD TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH MY SEATBELTS. I WAS NOT INJURED LUCKILY BUT IT IS SCARY TO KNOW THAT MY AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY.
AFTER TAKING THE CAR OUT FROM A STOP SIGN, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE GEAR ON PARK ONCE THE CAR STALLED AND TURN OFF THE IGNITION. I THEN TURNED ON THE IGNITION AND EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL. ONCE I REACHED MY DESTINATION I TURNED OFF AND ON THE IGNITION AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. UPON TAKING TO THE MECHANIC THEY FOUND OUT THE CAM SENSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED.

AGAIN, PUMPED TIRE TO SPECIFIED TIRE PRESSURE. LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE, THEREFORE, TOOK TO LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER FOR INSPECTION. DEALER INFORMED US OF TIRE TREAD SEPARATION AND RECOMMENDED IMMEDIATE TIRE REPLACEMENT BECAUSE OF SAFETY HAZARD. SUBSEQUENTLY HAD ALL FOUR TIRES REPLACED ON 8/13/15, MILEAGE ON VEHICLE 50,990. MY 2011 CHEVROLET EQUINOX HAS A REALLY BAD TICKING COMING FROM THE TIMING BELT AREA. THIS CAR HAS BEEN IDLING ROUGH AND ITS VERY LOUD DO TO THE TICKING COMING FROM SIDE OF ENGINE. IT SOUND LIKE A 30 YEAR OLD CAR AND ITS BEEN DOING IT SINCE 66,000 MILES
3 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE FROM A USED CAR LOT, THE WIPERS STOPPED OPERATING WHILE IN USE. THE MOTOR WAS WORKING PROPERLY, HOWEVER MY MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE WIPER TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED. HE STATED THAT IN HIS OPINION, THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP HAD SEVERAL OF THIS PART IN STOCK. THIS REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE 90-DAY WARRANTY PROVIDED BY THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I BELIEVE I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED BY THE MANUFACTURER FOR THIS REPAIR, WHICH TOTALED $367.35 (RECEIPT AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST) AND AN INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE CONDUCTED ON THESE WIPER TRANSMISSIONS AS THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. IN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ONLINE, I HAVE FOUND THAT OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED OF THE SAME ISSUE ON THE 2011 CHEVROLET EQUINOX.
FOR A THIRD TIME IN 2 WEEKS, THE VEHICLE LOSS POWER AND FAILED TO MAINTAIN SPEED. IT WOULD NOT EVEN MOVE FORWARD WHEN GIVEN GAS EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE CONTINUED RUNNING. THIS TIME, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TURNED OFF, THEN RE-STARTED, FOR MOVEMENT TO BE REGAINED. THIS HAPPENED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND BLOCKED A LANE FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES, UNTIL I COULD PULL OFF THE ROAD. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING EXTREMELY ROUGH AND THEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE CAM SHAFT ACTUATOR SOLENOID NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO REMEDY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
