2006 CHEVY HHR STALLS WHEN POTHOLES/BUMPS ARE HIT IN THE ROAD. CAR HAS STALLED THREE TIMES ON MAJOR HIGHWAYS IN THE PAST SIX MONTHS. THE FIRST TIME THE CAR STALLED BACK IN JUNE 2009, I TOOK THE CAR TO A CHEVORLET DEALER TO HAVE THE CAR CHECKED OUT AND THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE WHY THE CAR STALLED. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT HAPPENED ON TUESDAY NIGHT OCTOBER 13, 2009. I HIT A POTHOLE IN THE ROAD MY CAR STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. LUCKY FOR ME THERE WAS NO TRUCKS OR CARS BEHIND ME BECAUSE THERE WAS NO SHOULDER ON THE ROAD. AT THIS POINT, I AM NERVOUS AND ANXIOUS WHEN I DRIVE MY CAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE CONTACT HAD TO DRIVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE, TURN THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF SO THAT THE POWER STEERING WOULD RESET. THE DEALER WAS CALLED AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT A DIAGNOSTIC TEST COULD BE PERFORMED AND THE REPAIR WOULD COST $500 ALTHOUGH THERE WAS A 75,000 MILE WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DID NOT CALL THE CHEVROLET MANUFACTURER. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE DRIVER-SIDE DOOR CAN ONLY BE OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE. A TECHNICIAN FROM THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL AT AN EXPENSE OF $600.00. BASED UPON THE CONCLUSION OF THE MANUFACTURERS RESEARCH THEY MAY OFFER HER A DISCOUNT ON THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
I WAS DRIVING AND THE TEMPERATURE INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON, THE ALARM SOUNDED AND SUDDENLY THE TEMPERATURE IS AT OVER 250. I TURNED ON THE FAN AND HEAT AND MANAGED TO SLOWLY MAKE IT 1/2 MILES HOME. NEXT DAY I DROVE 2 BLOCKS INTO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THERE WAS NOT ONE DROP OF COOLANT IN THE CAR. APPARENTLY THE RADIATOR IS COMPLETELY EXPOSED TO ROCKS AND OTHER DEBRIS IN THE ROADWAY. I DON'T RECALL HITTING ANYTHING BUT THERE IS ROAD CONSTRUCTION EVERYWHERE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS AND EXPENSIVE DESIGN FLAW. I AM STILL WAITING FOR THE ULTIMATE "DAMAGE" REPORT BUT INTEND TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT, COMPLAIN TO CHEVROLET AND ALSO LET MY INSURANCE COMPANY KNOW AND SEE IF I CAN RECOVER THE COSTS IF THIS MEANS A NEW RADIATOR AND CONDENSER. I HAVE SEEN THIS SAME COMPLAINT ON ALL HHR 2006 AND NEWER MODELS AS WELL. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL AND REPAIR ISSUE. *TR
A LADY RAN A RED LIGHT ON SPRINGRIDGE RD JUST SOUTH OF JACKSON MS. WIFE WAS DRIVING ACROSS SPRINGRIDGE RD. THE LADY FAILED TO YIELD AND STRUCK WIFE IN DRIVERS SIDE TOTALING THREE CARS IN THE PROCESS WIFE WAS SEVERELY INJURED (11 DAYS IN HOSPITAL) NO AIRBAG WAS DEPLOYED DURING ACCIDENT. STILL WORKING ON FULL RECOVERY. *TR UPDATED 10/16/2017*JS THE CONSUMER REQUESTED A STATUS UPDATE AND RECALL INFORMATION. *JS
LEFT FRONT DRIVE SHAFT FAILED WHILE PARKED IN MY GARAGE. CAR WOULD NOT MOVE,HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALER FOR WARRANTY REPAIR. THIS IS THE FIRST OF TWO DRIVE SHAFT FAILURES ON THIS HHR. *TR ATTENTION !!! PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THIS VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE !!!
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN EXITING THE VEHICLE THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF. HE HAD TO ROLL THE WINDOW TO OPEN THE DOOR. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AND NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,200 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,210.
I PULLED MY CAR INTO THE DRIVEWAY AT HOME AND SHIFTED INTO PARK AND WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO REMOVE THE KEY IT WOULD NOT TURN ALL THE WAY TO THE REMOVAL POSITION. SO I MOVED THE SHIFT LEVER AGAIN AND NOTED THAT THE SHIFT BUTTON DIDN'T POP OUT WHEN I PUT IT INTO PARK. I KNEW THEN THAT THE KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS PUT INTO PARK WHICH THE SHIFT LEVER WAS NOT ALLOWING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT TO MY GM DEALER SERVICE MANAGER WHO STATED THAT I WAS THE SIXTH OR SEVENTH CUSTOMER WHO HAD HAD THIS PROBLEM IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS. THE MANAGER CALLED ME BACK AND TOLD ME THAT MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE COST WOULD BE $215.04. I WAS CONCERNED THAT THIS WAS NOT A RECALL ITEM SINCE HE HAD DONE SO MANY IN A TOWN OF 4500 PEOPLE AND THAT IN MY OPINION IT WOULD PUT SOMEONE IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION AT RISK OF HAVING THEIR CAR STOLEN IF THE COULDN'T TAKE THEIR KEYS OUT IN A LARGE CITY. I CONTACTED CUSTOMER SERVICE AT GM BUT WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING FOR ME, EVEN THOUGHT A SERVICE BULLETIN ON HOW TO DO THE REPAIR HAD BEEN SENT TO ALL GM SERVICE DEPARTMENTS. TO ME, THAT SOUNDS LIKE A RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN ISSUED. YES, I PAID TO HAVE THE PART REPLACED, BUT I STILL THANK IT IS THE MANUFACTURES FAULT AND NOT MINE. THE RECALL WOULD HAVE BEEN MADE BEFORE MY WARRANTY EXPIRED. ALSO THE SERVICE MANAGER REPORTED THAT THE CHEVROLET COBALT ALSO HAS THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I OWN A 2006 CHEVY HHR LT2, IT HAS APPROX. 52K MILES, AND A RATTLE, VIBRATION IN THE STEERING COLUMN HAS BEEN OCCURRING AT SPEEDS BELOW 45MPH. ALSO, THE DRIVER SIDE FLOOR IS CONTINUING TO FLOOD WITH WATER, AND THE HEATER/AC BLOWER HAS FAILED OR SHORTED OUT. LASTLY, I HAVE HAD THE BRAKE ROTORS WORKED ON 4 TIMES BY CHEVY, AND THEY ARE NOW ONCE AGAIN IN NEED OF REPAIR. I RECENTLY TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THE RATTLE IN THE STEERING AND THE WATER LEAK. I FOUND NUMEROUS TSB ARTICLES FOR THE ISSUES, BUT THE DEALER AND GM ARE CLAIMING THE TSBS DO NOT EXIST. THE REPAIRS WILL TOTAL MORE THAN $1100. I WAS TOLD THE BUSHINGS, AND TENSION RODS ARE THE PROBLEM WITH MY STEERING, AND THEY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. AT 52K MILES I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THESE ITEMS WOULD FAIL.. MY MAJOR CONCERN IS MY SAFETY RELATED TO THE STEERING AS WELL AS ANY POSSIBLE ELECTRICAL ISSUE STEMMING FROM THE WATER LEAK.. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY GM HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE STEERING ISSUE AS WELL AS FOR THE BRAKE ROTORS. IF YOU GO TO ANY VEHICLE COMPLAINT WEB SITE FOR THE HHR YOU WILL SEE 100'S OF POSTINGS RELATED TO BAD BRAKES. THERE ARE ALSO SIMILAR COMPLAINTS PERTAINING TO THE STEERING. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO HONOR OR COMPROMISE WITH REGARDS TO PERFORMING THE REPAIRS FOR FREE OR FOR A REDUCED FEE. I CONTACTED GM CORPORATE AND FILED A COMPLAINT. I WAS TOLD THE GM DISTRICT MANAGER WOULD CONTACT ME. I AM STILL WAITING. *TR
I COULDN'T REMOVE THE IGNITION KEYS FROM MY 2006 CHEVY HHR. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON COMPLAINT WITH HHR'S AND COBALT'S AND THAT THE ENTIRE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AT MY COST SINCE THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. I INVESTIGATED THE ISSUE ON ON-LINE FORUMS AND FOUND THE ISSUE WAS AS FOLLOWS: " A SMALL ACTUATOR ROD THAT GOES THROUGH THE SHIFTER STALK FALLS OUT DUE TO THE STALK CRACKING WHERE THE ROD GOES THROUGH IT. THE KEY RELEASE THEN NEVER GETS ACTIVATED SO YOU HAVE TO USE THE MANUAL RELEASE BUTTON ON THE BOTTOM OF THE STEERING COLUMN. THIS SHIFTER UNIT IS COMPLETELY UNSERVICEABLE AND THE ENTIRE SHIFTER BLOCK HAS TO BE REPLACED.NOTE THAT WITH NO ACTUATOR ROD THE SHIFT LEVER IS FREE TO MOVE WITHOUT PRESSING THE SHIFT BUTTON ON THE FRONT OF THE SHIFT LEVER, SO IT COULD ACCIDENTALLY BE MOVED TO ANOTHER GEAR WHILE DRIVING, EVEN REVERSE. ... CHEVY IS WRONG FOR PUTTING SUCH A CHEAP AND FLIMSY DEVICE ON THE CAR." THIS IS POINT THAT I MADE TO THE GM CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS DEPARTMENT BUT THEY STUCK TO THEIR GUNS THAT WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. TO MY WAY OF THINKING EVEN THE REPLACEMENT SHIFTER IS AT RISK IN THE FUTURE WITH HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. READING OTHER ON-LINE COMPLAINT LOGS, I NOTE THAT BECAUSE OF THE COST OF REPLACEMENT, IT WAS BEING ADVOCATED THAT SIMPLY USING THE MANUAL RELEASE BUTTON ON THE STEERING COLUMN WAS AN ACCEPTABLE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. OBVIOUSLY THIS LEAVES DRIVER'S IN A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS POSITION IF THE SHIFTER IS ACCIDENTALLY MOVED WHILE THE CAR IS MOVING. AS SUCH I FEEL THAT THERE IS REASON TO HAVE GM RECALL THESE VEHICLES TO REPLACE THESE "CHEAP" SHIFTERS AND TO REIMBURSE OWNERS SUCH AS MYSELF THAT HAVE INCURRED STEEP REPLACEMENT COSTS. *TR
MY 2006 HHR VIBRATES VIOLENTLY WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. I'VE HAD THIS PROBLEM CHECKED NUMEROUS TIMES FROM APPROXIMATELY 12000 MILES ON. I AM CURRENTLY AT 55000. AFTER INSPECTIONS I WAS ADVISED NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY BRAKES. I WAS TOLD THE MATERIALS USED FOR THE BRAKES HEATS SO RAPIDLY THAT IT COULD CAUSE IT. I QUESTIONED ABOUT THE MATERIALS USED AND IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT IT WAS TO KEEP THE WEIGHT LOW ON THE VEHICLE FOR GAS MILEAGE. YESTERDAY I WAS RETURNING HOME FROM WORK WHICH I HAVE TO TRAVEL A LONG GRADE. I SHIFTED TO A LOWER GEAR TO REDUCE SPEED GOING DOWN THE GRADE, I PRESSED ON THE BREAKS AND THE VEHICLE SHOOK SO VIOLENTLY I ENDED UP TRYING TO USE THE EMERGENCY HAND BREAK IN ORDER TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. MY SPEED WAS APPROXIMATELY 52 MILES PER HOUR. I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE AND HAVE AN EXTENSIVE WARRANTY REPAIR RECORD ON IT INCLUDING A FIRE. I FIND THIS VEHICLE IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE ESPECIALLY WITH THE BRAKING PROBLEMS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG AND MY POWER STEERING FAILED, AS I WAS ROUNDING A CURVE ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. I WAS TRAVELING BETWEEN 55 AND 60 MILES PER HOUR. AS I WAS ROUNDING A CURVE, MY POWER STEERING FAILED, CAUSING ME TO NEARLY LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. GM IS VERY AWARE THAT THEY BUILT HHR'S WITH DEFECTIVE POWER STEERING MOTORS. IF YOU START A GOOGLE SEARCH FOR IT "HHR P", IT WILL FILL IN THE SUGGESTIONS WITH "HHR POWER STEERING MOTOR/ISSUES/FAILURE/ETC". THERE ARE FORUMS FULL OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD TO PAY TO REPLACE THEIR PS MOTORS, BUT SHOULD NOT HAVE. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY TO REPLACE A MAJOR SAFETY COMPONENT ON OUR VEHICLES THAT GENERAL MOTORS KNOWS IN FACT IS BAD. THE REASON I KNOW THAT GM IS AWARE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM, IS BECAUSE THEY'VE RECALLED NEARLY EVERY OTHER CAR EQUIPPED WITH THE SAME ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SET UP. MY MOTHER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION ON HER MALIBU. AS DID ANOTHER LADY I KNOW THAT HAS A MALIBU, SOMEONE I KNOW WITH A G6 GOT THE LETTER, AND 2 COBALT/G5 OWNERS I KNOW, ALSO RECEIVED RECALL LETTERS. SO GM IS VERY VERY VERY AWARE THAT THEY HAVE BUILT POTENTIALLY UNSAFE VEHICLES THAT COULD CAUSE INJURY, BUT THEY DO NOT CARE!!! AFTER CONTACTING THEM, THEIR CS REP FROM INDIA OR PHILIPPINES TOLD ME THAT GM IS NOT AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED, PAY FOR THE REPAIRS, AND THAT GM 'MIGHT' HELP ME WITH THE COST. SORRY, BUT I DON'T HAVE 400 DOLLARS TO PAY SOMEONE TO "DIAGNOSE" A KNOWN ISSUE AND REPLACE THE PART THAT THEY KNOW IS BAD!!! I FOUND THE PART ON GMPARTSDIRECT.COM, ORDERED AND REPLACED IT MYSELF. SITTING AT NEARLY 140K (ABOUT DOUBLE THE MILES I HAD WHEN I REPLACED IT) AND STILL TURNING FINE. NOTICED THAT THE NEW PS MOTOR'S GM PART NUMBER WAS DIFFERENT. ALSO INDICATING, THEY KNEW THERE WAS A PROBLEM, REDESIGNED THE PART, THUS IT HAVING A NEW PART NUMBER. STOP LETTING GM GET AWAY WITH THIS CRIME!!! *TR
THE KEY WILL NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION AT TIMES. I TAKE THE VEHICLE OUT OF DRIVE AND PUT IT IN PARK SEVERAL TIMES AND DO THE SAME WITH THE BRAKES BEFORE THE KEY WILL COME OUT. MY MECHANIC HAS SAID THAT IT IS A BRAKE ISSUE AND NOT THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR INTERIOR HANDLE BROKE AT APPROX 36,400 MILES. LUCKILY THE HANDLE WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE WHOLE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR PANEL HAD TO BE REPLACED. AT APPROXIMATELY ANOTHER 36,000 MILES THE DOOR HANDLE BROKE AGAIN. WE LOOKED ONLINE, AND THERE IS A COMPANY THAT MAKES JUST THE DOOR HANDLE TO REPLACE. WE ORDERED A REPLACEMENT HANDLE. THEY SAID THAT THEY SELL ABOUT 50-60 HANDLES A WEEK. THERE ARE SEVERAL VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE ON HOW TO REPLACE THE HANDLE, AND MANY COMPANIES ONLINE SELLING JUST THE HANDLE OF THE HHR. WE HAVE NEVER HAD A INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE BREAK WITHIN 3 YEARS OF OWNING A CAR, AND TO BREAK A SECOND TIME IN ANOTHER 3 YEARS, AND IT APPEARS TO BE A CONSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO WEBSITE GROUPS, FORUMS ETC. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. IF THE DRIVER INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE FAILS AND THE DRIVER NEEDS TO GET OUT OF THE CAR IN AN EMERGENCY QUICKLY, IT'S NOT POSSIBLE. OVER THE YEARS OF OWNING SEVERAL DIFFERENT CARS FOR MANY YEARS, I HAVE NEVER HAD AN INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE BREAK. *TR
THE EXHAUST CONE INSIDE THE FRONT FLANGE OF THE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY BROKE OFF CAUSING THE STAINLESS STEEL BELLOWS/VIBRATION DAMPER TO CRACK AND LEAK. THE LEAK AND CRACK CONTINUED TO GROW UNTIL I HAD CAUSE FOR CONCERN THAT THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY WOULD FAIL AND FALL DOWN TO THE ROAD BELOW AND CAUSE CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE OR LOSS OF CONTROL. I REPLACED THE UNIT MYSELF AT 82K MILES AFTER FIRST NOTICING THE PROBLEM AT THE 78K MILE MARK. *TR
2006 CHEVROLET HHR - DOOR HANDLE BROKE NOT ALLOWING ME TO EXIT VEHICLE. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 HHR THAT WE BOUGHT IN JULY OF 2006. I HAVE NOTICED IN ISSUE OF WATER GETTING IN THE CAR FROM SOMEWHERE UNDER THE DASHBOARD, AND IT IS CAUSING THE FLOORBOARDS TO GET WET EVERY TIME IT RAINS. I FIRST NOTICED THE ISSUE IN AUGUST OF 2009 AND IT HAPPENED ONCE AND DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT. THE PROBLEM HAS BECOME MORE OF A NUISANCE SINCE. I CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND THEY TOLD ME THAT SINCE THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE WINDSHIELD THAT MY GLASS COVERAGE WOULDN'T COVER IT, AND THAT I NEED TO BRING IT IN TO MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER AND HAVE THEM DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM WHICH IS GOING TO MOST LIKELY COST ME AN ARM AND A LEG TO FIX SINCE MY WARRANTY IS NO LONGER VALID. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE CHEVY ACTUALLY HONOR THE PRODUCT THAT THEY PRODUCE AND FINALLY COME TO THEIR SENSES AND FIX THE ISSUES OR I WILL HAVE TO START BUYING A DIFFERENT BRAND, BECAUSE I DON'T THINK THAT A CAR THAT ONLY HAS 41,176 MILES THAT IS ABOUT THREE YEARS OLD SHOULD NOT HAVE SOGGY CARPETS AND A MOLD AND MILDEW ISSUES. SINCERELY ONE UNHAPPY CUSTOMER. *TR
WHILE OPENING THE LEFT FRONT DOOR FROM THE INSIDE THE PLASTIC CHROME DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF IN MY HAND MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. THIS WILL IMPAIR THE ABILITY OF THE OCCUPANTS TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, MY DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW EXPLODED INTO MY VEHICLE. THE WINDOW WAS COMPLETELY UP, THERE WHERE NO OTHER VEHICLES IN FRONT OR ON THE SIDE OF ME. I HEARD A LOUD POP THEN THE WINDOW BLEW OUT. CAUSING ME TO ALMOST RUN MY CAR OFF THE HIGHWAY. MY DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HAS HAD TO BE ADJUSTED 3 TIMES ALREADY. I DON'T KNOW IF ONE THING HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE OTHER. WHILE RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM I HAVE FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS FROM OTHERS STATING THEY HAVE HAD VARIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WINDOW. THIS DEFECT IF IT IS ONE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR ANYONE. ANY HELP IN THIS SITUATION WOULD BE GREATFULLY APPRECIATED.
PURCHASED THE CAR JULY 13 OF THIS YEAR. A CLUNKING SOUND COMES FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE WHEN HITTING HOLES OR ON SLIGHTLY ROUGH ROAD. TENDS TO OCCUR MORE WHEN THE CAR OR THE WEATHER IS COLD. TOOK IT TO CHEVROLET AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A SWAY BAR LINK ISSUE. I REPLACED THE ROTORS, SWAY BAR LINKS (PAIR), DRIVERS SIDE STRUT MOUNT AND BALANCED & ROTATED TIRES. PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. APPEARS THAT THE STEERING COLUMN (INTERMEDIARY?) HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR OTHER HHR OWNERS ACCORDING TO ONLINE FORUMS AND RESEARCH ALSO POINTS TO THE SAME ISSUE IN OLDER OLDSMOBILES. *TR

THE CAR HAS SEVERAL SAFETY ISSUES. THE MAIN CONCERN IS THAT BOTH OF THE FRONT DOORS HAD THE HANDLES BREAK OFF. YOU CANNOT OPEN THE DOORS FROM THE INSIDE. YOU MUST ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW AND OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. IF THE VEHICLE WERE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT OR CAUGHT ON FIRE AND THERE WAS NO POWER TO THE VEHICLE YOU ARE LITERALLY TRAPPED INSIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE ENTIRE DOOR PANEL WAS REPLACED BECAUSE THE PARTS FOR THE DOOR HANDLE WERE NOT SOLD SEPARATELY. APPROXIMATELY 18 MONTHS LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
IGNITION SWITCH WILL NOT TURN TO FULL OFF POSITION AND KEY CANNOT BE REMOVED. FIRST OCCURRENCE, AFTER SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE AND BACK AND RESTARTING CAR THE SWITCH TURNED TO FULL OFF POSITION AND KEY COULD BE REMOVED. SECOND OCCURRENCE -SWITCH WOULD NOT DISENGAGE, COULD NOT REMOVE KEYS. I REMOVED THE SMALL COVER FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE STEERING WHEEL TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE INTERNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY. I USED MY FINGER TO PUSH THE MECHANISM INSIDE THE STEERING WHEEL SO THE KEY COULD BE TURNED OFF AND REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,700.

THERE APPEARS TO BE A LARGE AMOUNT OF COBALT AND HHR OWNERS WITH COMPLAINTS ABOUT SUSPENSION CLUNKING NOISES. RESEARCH SHOWS THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE STABILIZER BAR PARTS AND ALSO THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. THESE PROBLEMS OCCUR AT MANY INTERVALS OF MILEAGE RANGING FROM 10,000 MILES AND UP. GM HAS SINCE SUED THE MANUFACTURER OF THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT FOR THOSE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY EQUALING $30MIL. I AM UNLUCKY AS MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY (3YR/36000 MILES) AND COULD NOT GET ANY OF MY SUSPENSION AND STEERING PROBLEMS FIXED BY A KNOWN ISSUE FROM GM. THEY HAVE STATED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT IS NOT A SAFETY CONCERN. NOW, IF A PART THAT IS VITAL IN CONNECTING THE STEERING COLUMN TO THE RACK AND PINION SYSTEM IS NOT A SAFETY CONCERN, THEN I BELIEVE GM EXECUTIVES ARE MORE CONCERNED WITH COST OF DOING THE RIGHT THING THAN SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. THESE ARE PARTS THAT KEEP A VEHICLE FROM FLIPPING OVER DURING SHARP TURNS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND THAT KEEP THE CAR TRAVELING IN THE DIRECTION THE OPERATOR DETERMINES USING THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAVE ABOUT 20,000 MILE SINCE AND THE VIBRATIONS ARE STARTING TO RETURN EVEN AT LOWER SPEEDS OF 40 MPH. I FEEL THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THE BRAKING SYSTEM OR LOOKED IN TO BEFORE A FATAL ACCIDENT HAPPENS. *TR
YESTERDAY WHEN I GOT HOME I DISCOVERED THAT I COULD NOT GET OUT OF MY DRIVER'S DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. THE INSIDE HANDLE BROKE, SO I ROLLED DOWN THE WINDOW AND USED THE OUTSIDE HANDLE TO OPEN THE DOOR. TODAY I TRIED TO GET A NEW DOOR HANDLE ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT YOU HAVE TO PURCHASE THE WHOLE DOOR PANEL ($269.71 WITH MY TRADE DISCOUNT). THIS IS A CRAZY WAY TO REPAIR A CHEAP PLASTIC DOOR HANDLE. I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET ONLY TO LEARN THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM TO MANY OTHER HHR VEHICLES. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL WITH A BETTER DESIGN INCLUDED FOR THIS DOOR HANDLE. THE LAST RECALL I GOT WAS FOR A GLOVE BOX CATCH PROBLEM, WHICH WAS A PIECE OF MOLDED PLASTIC WITH TAPE TO HOLD IT ON. THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR PROBLEM IS A MUCH MORE DANGEROUS PROBLEM. *TR
KEY IN THE IGNITION IS SOMETIMES GETTING STUCK, ONE HAS TO POSITION THE AUTOMATIC GEAR SELECTOR OUT OF PARK AND BACK INTO PARK TO GET THE KEY TO RELEASE PROPERLY. POSSIBLE ITS THE INTERLOCK FEATURE OF THE AUTOMATIC GEAR SELECTOR POSITION BEING AFFECTED. *TR

2006 CHEVY HHR CONTINUES TO HAVE POWER STEERING GO OUT DURING OPERATION. THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS. AFTER READING SEVERAL BLOGS, IT APPEARS THAT THE CAUSE IS A DEFECT IN THE EPS (ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING). IT EMPLOYS THE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM), POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE (PSCM), TORQUE MODULE AND VARIOUS OTHER SYSTEMS. THE SYSTEM BECOMES CORRUPTED AND CAUSES INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING FAILURE. AS STATED ABOVE, IF THE SYSTEM FAILS DURING CERTAIN DRIVING CONDITIONS, (I.E. DRIVING IN CURVING, MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN) AND SYSTEM FAILS, THIS COULD CAUSE VERY DIFFICULT STEERING AND A TRAFFIC CRASH. *TR

WHEN EMAILING GM, I CONTINUED TO GET THE RUN AROUND FOR DAYS UNTIL I THREATENED TO REPORT THEM TO THIS SITE. I AM CHOOSING TO ANYHOW BECAUSE I DO NOT FEEL THEY HAVE TAKEN PROPER STEPS TO ENSURE THIS IS REPAIRED. THEY DID CONNECT ME TO A DEALER, GRAFF CHEVROLET IN GRAND PRAIRIE. SUDDENLY, THE TRACTION CONTROL DISENGAGED WITHOUT ASSISTANCE. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO IDLE EXCESSIVELY AND SURGED UNEXPECTEDLY. IMMEDIATELY, THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES. THE REPAIRS CONSISTED OF INSTALLING A DATA RECORDER AND REPLACING THE BCM. IN ADDITION, THE STEERING COLUMN AND GEAR SHIFTER WERE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT BEING DRIVEN DUE TO THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,456 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 15,500.

FAN STOPPED WORKING AND WILL NOT BLOW OUT HEAT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH THE BLOWER MOTOR. THE CAR IS 2 YEARS OLD AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WOULD NOT BE A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM. THE DEALER WILL FIX IT FOR $527.00. I DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY AND I DON'T THINK THIS IS A PROBLEM I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR. WHY WOULD A 2 YEAR OLD CAR HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. FOR SURE IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. BESIDES THAT I LIVE IN ILLINOIS AND CANNOT DRIVE IN THE WINTER WITHOUT A HEATER. I WOULD LIKE FOR THIS PROBLEM TO BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
