TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING AND REQUIRED EXCESSIVE FORCE TO MANEUVER. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO DRIVE HOME, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. IN ADDITION, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL MALFUNCTIONED INTERMITTENTLY. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND THE PEDAL BECAME LODGED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE FAILURES AFTER IT WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND 14E021000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE FOR FREE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 158,000.
MAKING TURN INTO PARKING LOT HEAR A DING AND NOT STEERING, AFTER SHUT OFF CAR AND MOTOR COOLS THE STEERING WORKS HAPPEN AGAIN A FEW TIMES SOMETIMES GOING STRAIGHT SOMETIMES MAKING TURNS, CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL SHORTED INTERMITTENTLY AND CAUSED ELECTRICAL FAILURES WITHIN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS EXTREMELY TIGHT AND INTERMITTENTLY LOCKED WITHOUT WARNING. UPON USING THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER, SMOKE EMITTED INSIDE THE VEHICLE INDICATING THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE WITH THE WIRES. THE FIRE EXTINGUISHED WITHOUT HAVING TO CONTACT THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED AND DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND 14V047000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHEN THE RECALL REPAIR WOULD BE PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
STARTED THE CAR AND BEGAN TO PULL OUT OF THE DRIVE AND THE POWER STEERING IS NOT WORKING, IT HAD BEEN JUST FINE THE DAY BEFORE. THE CAR NOW STEERS LIKE A 1960'S CAR WITH MANUAL STEERING. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES BECAME FRACTURED AND WERE NOT REPLACED. IN ADDITION, NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) WAS REFERENCED HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICED UNDER THE RECALL BECAUSE THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DELAY. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.

THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE POWER STEERING SENSOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED DURING THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPAIRED THE FAILURE BUT NO INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,500.

MY POWER STEERING JUST RANDOMLY WENT OUT. IT HAS CONTINUED TO DO THIS. *TR
WAS DRIVING ON HWY 231 IN NORTHERN ALABAMA AT POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 65MPH, SUDDENLY CAR MADE A CHIME SOUND AND THE "POWER STEERING" MESSAGE CAME ON. UNABLE TO STEER VEHICLE SAFELY AS THE STEERING SEIZED. WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE CHEVY DEALER, BUT WHILE THE 2009-2010 HHR HAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM, IT CURRENTLY DOES NOT COVER THE EARLIER MODELS EVEN THOUGH IT IS OBVIOUSLY THE SAME PROBLEM. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILURE WARNING MESSAGE ILLUMINATED ALONG WITH A CHIMING NOISE AS THE POWER STEERING ASSIST MALFUNCTIONED. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO BECOME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN AND ELECTRIC MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE DASH BOARD MADE A TONE, IT SAID "POWER STEERING" ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND I LOST ALL POWER STEERING. IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE CAR AND AFTER GETTING IT STOPPED, I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF, SITTING THERE FOR A FEW MINUTES I RESTARTED THE CAR AND THEIR WAS NO ISSUES UNTIL I BACKED OUT, THEN IT DID IT AGAIN. I ENDED UP SITTING THEIR FOR A WHILE LONGER (APROX 15 MINUTES) AND RESTARTED THE CAR AGAIN, BACKED OUT OF THE PARKING PLACE AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE OFF WITH NO PROBLEM'S. SINCE THEN I HAVE NOT HAD ANOTHER INCIDENT WITH THE POWER STEERING. I NOTIFIED CHEVROLET THE NEXT DAY AND THEY SAID MY CAR WASN'T IN THE RECALL SO, THEY WERE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING TO FIX IT. *TR
2006 CHEVROLET HHR. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO IGNITION SWITCH RECALL NOTICE . *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE SHUT OFF, AT LEAST 10 TIMES WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM. *JB
I WAS DRIVING IN THE RIGHT LANE GOING WESTBOUND APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES IT DID NOT SLOW DOWN,I PRESSED THE BRAKE HARD AN CAR KEPT GOING INTO THE REAR OF A TRUCK THAT WAS STOPPING AT THE LIGHT. MY CAR WAS NOT STOPPING. LIKE IT HAD NO CONTROL. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. IM CONCERNED THAT THE IGNITION TURNED OFF WHEN I WENT OVER SOME POT HOLES IN THE ROAD. MY CAR IS ONE OF THE VEHICLES ON THE RECALL LIST FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH, I HAD REPLACED IGNITION SWITCH MONTHS AGO DUE TO SAME PROBLEM. WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS TO GET THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED? *TR
2006 CHEVROLET HHR. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO IGNITION SWITCH RECALL NOTICE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT END WERE SHAKING, AND THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE TECHNICIAN FOUND A WORN OUT BEARING, THE STEERING SHAFT HAD AN INTERNAL FAILURE AND THE SWAY BAR LINKS WERE WORN. THE STEERING COLUMN, INTERMEDIATE SHAFT AND SWAY BAR LINKS WERE REPLACED. ALSO, IT WAS DIFFICULT TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK AT TIMES. IT WAS DETERMINED A LIQUID HAD BEEN SPILLED IN THE SHIFTER. ALSO, THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. *JB

HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE SINCE 32K MILES, 2ND OWNER I THINK. STARTING ABOUT 1 AND 1/2 YR AGO THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) STARTED TURNING OFF WHILE DRIVING UNDER ANY CONDITION. WHEN THIS HAPPENS IT IS VERY HARD TO TURN THE CAR. CAR MUST BE STOPPED AND ENGINE TURNED OFF AND ON AGAIN TO RESET EPS SYSTEM. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND HAPPENS AT RANDOM.

ENGINE DIED TODAY FOR 6TH TIME WHILE DRIVING. WAS DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE AT 73MPH AND ENGINE DIED ALMOST CAUSING ME TO BE REAR ENDED WITH MY YOUNG INFANT IN THE CAR WHILE TRYING TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO RESTART IT. NO REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME. *TR
I WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON A 4 LANE RTE WITH A CENTER LANE FOR TURNING. I WAS DRIVING THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT AND THEN I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. ONE MINUTE I WAS DRIVING, THE NEXT I WAS CRASHING INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. THE CAR WENT LEFT OF THE CENTER LANE AND THE TWO NORTHBOUND LANES AND INTO THE TELEPHONE POLE. IT HAPPENED SO FAST. THERE WERE NO WITNESSES THAT CAME FORWARD. I DON'T RECALL HEARING ANY HORNS BLARING OR BRAKES SQUEALING. I HAD NO SENSE OF WARNING THAT I WAS GOING TO CRASH. ( I HAVE BEEN IN OR SEEN CRASHES BEFORE AND THERE IS USUALLY A SENSE OF " OH NO THIS IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN"). MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. MY HEAD SPIDERWEBBED THE WINDSHIELD. I HAD TINY CUTS IN MY SCALP AND SLIVERS OF GLASS IN MY HAIR. MY LEFT SHOULDER HIT SOMETHING (MAYBE THE STEERING WHEEL)? MY LEFT THIGH HAD A BRUISE FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. THE BRUISE WAS 12" X 4 OR 5 " THROUGHOUT THE LENGTH OF THE BRUISE.. THERE IS A LARGE HEMATOMA ABOVE WHERE THE BRUISE HAD BEEN. THIS HEMATOMA IS MEASURES APPROX 7 " AND ROUND. IT IS PAINFUL AND PROTRUDES 3". MY RIGHT KNEE WAS BANGED UP AND IS STILL PAINFUL AND THERE WAS BRUISING AND A SMALLER HEMATOMA ABOUT THE SIZE OF A GOLFBALL. BOTH HEMATOMAS REMAIN. THE CRASH WAS ON 3/28/2014. MY NECK STARTED HURTING IMMEDIATELY AND STILL REMAINS PAINFUL. THE CAR HAS FRONT END DAMAGE AND SOME ON THE LEFT AND SOME ON THE RIGHT. I BELIEVE MY INJURIES WERE DIRECTLY CAUSED BY FAILURE OF AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. *TR
ON 3/28/14 I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 6:30AM AND MY CAR JUST TURNED OFF DISPLAYING ENGINE POWER REDUCED. TAKEN TO DEALER AND THEY CLAIMED IT WAS NOTICE AND NOW IT BEEN 4 TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED. RECENTLY ON 10/11/14 I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND STOP AT A RED LIGHT WHEN MY CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE AND ON DASH DISPLAY MESSAGE READ ENGINE POWER REDUCE WHICH AT THIS POINT MY CAR CUT OFF AND WOULD NOT START BACK UP.. I WAITED ABOUT 10 MIN AND TURNED IT ON AGAIN.. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN RECURRENT SINCE THEN AND NOW MY CHILD SAFETY LATCHES WHEN PUT ON WILL NOT LET DOORS CLOSE AND WHEN MOVED TO OPEN POSITION THE SAFETY LOCK WILL NOT REPOSITION ITSELF TO THE OPEN POSITION. RECENTLY ON 10/07/14 MY SERVICE AIRBAGS MESSAGE DISPLAYED FOR NO REASON. I HAVE CONTACTED DEALERSHIP AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHY THIS IS HAPPENING BUT WONT TRADE MY CAR FOR ANOTHER AND I HAVE CONTACTED GM AND STILL NO ONE HAS HELPED ME THESE ISSUES. I FEAR FOR MINE AND MY FAMILY LIFE IN THIS CAR. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A FUEL LINE LEAK THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THIS HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES WITH THIS VEHICLE, USUALLY AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 50 MPH. WHEN BEING CUT OFF BY ANOTHER VEHICLE, HITTING THE BRAKE HARD AND STEERING AWAY FROM THE OFFENDING VEHICLE CAUSE THE HHR TO FISHTAIL AND GET VERY SQUIRRELLY. IT JUST STARTS GOING BACK AND FORTH IN A ROCKING MOTION AND ONLY SETTLES DOWN BY TAKING MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE. IT FEELS LIKE THE CAR COULD EASILY GO INTO A ROLL OVER. I HAVE HAD IT INSPECTED BY LES SCHWAB AND THEY REPLACED THE STRUTS AND SHOCKS, BUT SAW NO REAL PROBLEMS. THIS LATEST INCIDENT OCCURRED MANY MONTHS AFTER THAT WORK WAS COMPLETED, SO THAT APPARENTLY WAS NOT PART OF THE PROBLEM. IT WILL ALSO OCCASIONALLY GIVE ME A SHIMMY IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN DECELERATING FROM A MODERATE SPEED. HOWEVER, THAT DOES NOT OCCUR MOST OF THE TIME... ROTORS APPEAR TO BE FINE. *TR
THIS INCIDENT IS IDENTICAL TO NHTSA ACTION NUMBER : PE10005 WHICH IS FOR THE CHEVROLET COBALT/PONTIAC G5. MY POWER STEERING GAVE OUT, THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER SAID POWER STEERING AND THERE WAS A CHIME. THE POWER STEERING WAS RESTORED WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED 3 TIMES SO FAR. THE FIRST TIME IN THE MORNING AFTER A 20 MINUTE DRIVE, WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN. THEN AGAIN IN THE MORNING AFTER 20 MINUTES OF DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT 45 MPH WHILE IN A CURVE. THEN AGAIN IN THE EVENING ON STRAIGHT HIGHWAY GOING 65 MPH AFTER ONLY 5 MILES OF DRIVING. I SEE THIS PROBLEM WAS RECALLED FOR THE ABOVE MENTIONED CARS. MY HHR IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM, AND CHEVY HHR FORUMS SHOW OTHER HHRS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM ALONG WITH THE SATURN ION. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE AN EXPECTED DATE FOR REMEDY PART TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
I CONTACTED STROSNIDER CHEVROLET (A DEALER IN HOPEWELL, VA) ABOUT THE RECENT RECALL ON MY CAR AND ASKED ABOUT A LOANER. FIRST THEY WANTED TO KNOW WHERE I GOT MY INFORMATION AND THEN THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF CARS CUTTING OFF AND THAT I DID NOT NEED TO WORRY. MY CAR HAS LOST POWER 4 TIMES IN THE LAST 8 MONTHS AND EVEN THOUGH IT DID NOT CUT OFF,IT DID NOT HAVE POWER AND WAS COASTING FOR ABOUT A MINUTE BEFORE IT PICKED UP POWER AGAIN AND I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN IT ANYMORE. THIS DEALER ACTED LIKE THIS RECALL IS A JOKE AND THEY DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT. I WILL DEFINITELY NOT GO TO THEM FOR ANYTHING AGAIN EVEN THOUGH I PURCHASED MY CAR FROM THEM BACK IN 2006. I DON'T APPRECIATE THEM MAKING LITE OF MY SITUATION AND IF MY CAR DOES CUT OFF ON THE INTERSTATE AND I AM RUN OVER BY THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME, ME OR MY FAMILY WILL BE SUING SOMEONE FOR THIS INCIDENT. *TR

SPOUSE MADE TURN AT STOP SIGN AND STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT ALMOST RUNNING INTO CURB. CHIME SOUNDED AND DASH LIGHT CAME ON. MANAGED TO GET TO CHEVROLET GARAGE AND VERIFICATION OF STEERING PROBLEM. STEERING MOTOR REPLACED AT A COST OF $300+. NOT ON RECALL LIST DESPITE NUMBER OF INCIDENTS. GM COVERS SOME OF THESE BUT NOT THIS MODEL????? *TR
THIS CAR HAS ALREADY BEEN SERVICED DUE TO RECALL ON IGNITION. I SPECIFIED TO THE SERVICE REP (WHEN I DROPPED IT FOR THE RECALL SERVICE) OF WHAT WE HAD EXPERIENCED BEFORE WE PARKED IT: THE FIRST TIME WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH THE THEFT DETERRENT ALARM LIT UP, POWER STARTED TO FAIL, ALL GAUGES MOVED ERRATICALLY UP AND DOWN, DASHBOARD DISPLAY THEN FLASHED *****F, THEN FLASHED "POWER STEERING", AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WE GOT OFF THE ROAD, FOUND A 2 AMP FUSE TO THE IGNITION SWITCH/PASS-KEY BLOWN, REPLACED #8 FUSE FROM SPARE.THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME. WE EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM SEVERAL MORE TIMES BUT NO BLOWN FUSES. AFTER RECALL SERVICE WAS COMPLETED THEY MADE NO NOTE OF ANY OTHER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS BEING FOUND OR SERVICED THE PROBLEM HAS RESURFACED, AND NEARLY STRANDED US. NO BLOWN FUSES IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OR UNDER DASH. . ON 8/16/2014 THE CAR DECIDED TO SHUT DOWN AT 55MPH. LUCKILY THE POWER STEERING NEVER WENT OUT TOTALLY, AND THE CAR BEHIND US AVOIDED OUR SUDDEN SLOW DOWN. A CERTIFIED MECHANIC (NOT LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED AND SERVICED FRO 100,000 M) HAVE SUGGESTED THAT I FILE THIS COMPLAINT. *TR
POWER STEERING HAS BECOME INTERMITTENT. UPON RESTART IT'S FINE AND THEN GOES OUT PERIODICALLY BETWEEN 2 AND 30 MINUTES AFTER EACH RESTART. ANYONE WHO NEEDS POWER STEERING TO DRIVE, NOT JUST A CONVENIENCE, WOULD HAVE A VERY HARD PHYSICAL TIME MAKING A 90 DEGREE TURN, ESPECIALLY IF THE STEERING WENT OUT WHILE MAKING THE TURN. *TR

TRAVELING ON SOLOMON'S ISLAND RD. IN ANNAPOLIS, MD., I HEARD A CHIME SOUND, "POWER STEERING" APPEARED AS A LIGHTED WARNING, AND I SUDDENLY HAD NO POWER STEERING. I PULLED INTO A SHOPPING CENTER, MAKING A LEFTHAND TURN, AND IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. I CHECKED MY MANUAL WHICH TOLD ME NOT TO KEEP DRIVING, CALLED MY HUSBAND WHO IS A FORMER AUTO TECH, AND HE ADVISED ME TO START THE CAR AGAIN TO SEE IF THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. IT DIDN'T, SO HE THOUGHT THAT MAYBE IT WAS A TEMPORARY PROBLEM AND ADVISED ME TO DRIVE CAUTIOUSLY, BUT TO PULL OVER IF IT CAME ON AGAIN. I WAS MORE THAN AN HOUR FROM HOME (DENTON, MD.) AND REALLY DIDN'T WANT TO GET STRANDED AT NIGHTFALL, SO I DROVE EAST ON ROUTE 50, AND JUST BEFORE ROWE BLVD., IT CAME ON AGAIN, AND I PULLED OFF TO TRY TO FIND A SAFE PLACE TO PARK. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER, ESPECIALLY MAKING A 90-DEGREE TURN. IT WAS GETTING DARK, AND I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT PARKING IN A SAFE PLACE TO WAIT FOR MY HUSBAND TO MEET UP WITH ME. SO I REASONED THAT, ONCE I GOT BACK ON ROUTE 50, I WOULD ONLY HAVE TO DRIVE STRAIGHT TO GET TO KENT ISLAND AND MEET UP WITH MY HUSBAND WHO WOULD DRIVE MY CAR THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. I PRAYED MY CAR WOULDN'T GET STRANDED ON THE BAY BRIDGE, BUT IT SEEMED THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS THE ONLY ISSUE. MY HUSBAND DROVE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME SAFELY. WE WENT ONLINE TO FIND OUT IF THIS WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE HHR, AND FOUND THAT THERE WERE MANY OWNERS WHO REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM. FRANKLY, WE WERE AND ARE SURPRISED THAT HHRS OLDER THAN 2010 HAVE NOT BEEN RECALLED. INTERMITTENTLY, THE PROBLEM KEPT OCCURRING WITH MY HUSBAND DRIVING MY CAR UNTIL I FINALLY GOT IT REPAIRED TWO WEEKS LATER ON MARCH 25, 2014. MY STEERING MOTOR HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR $262.50. *TR

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
WHILE DRIVING, SUDDENLY THE WARNING ALARM DINGED AND POWER STEERING APPEARED ON THE NOTIFICATION WINDOW. POWER STEERING WAS SUDDENLY NOT THERE, JUST AS I WAS ENTERING A CONSTRUCTION ZONE WITH LANE REALIGNMENT. I PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF THE CAR AND LET IT SIT FOR A MINUTE. WHEN I RESTARTED IT, THE POWER STEERING WORKED. IT STAYED FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES BEFORE THE ERROR RETURNED. THIS PATTERN REPEATED THROUGHOUT THE DAY, REGARDLESS OF SPEED OR AMOUNT OF TURNS. A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH TO PREPARE ME FOR A CALL TO THE MECHANIC ON MONDAY SHOWED THIS SEEMS TO BE A NOT-UNCOMMON ISSUE. *TR
I STARTED MY CAR AND PUT IT IN GEAR. THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS LOCKED ALL DOORS. AS I WAS DRIVING THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR UN LACHTED AND CAME OPEN. ALL THE OTHER DOORS WERE STILL CLOSED AND LOCKED. I STOPPED MY CAR PUT IT IN PARK AND THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR LOCK WAS IN THE LOCK POSTION STILL AND WAS UNABLE TO CLOSE THE DOOR. I CHECKED THE DOOR LATCH AND IT WAS IN THE OPEN POSTION. FINALLY AFTER LOCKING AND UNLOCKING THE DOORS WITH THE DOOR LOCK THE DOOR. CLOSED. THOUGHT WE WERE SAFE TO GO THEN PUT MY CAR IN DRIVE AGAIN AND THE DOOR CAME OPEN AGAIN. WORKED WITH THE DOOR AGAIN AND NOW IT WILL NOT OPEN. GOOD THING WE WERE NOT ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN IT HAPPENED. NOW ANOTHER SAFTEY ISSUE MY CAR WILL NOT GO ALL THE WAY INTO PARK UNLESS THE NOSE OF THE CAR IS AT A DOWNWARD ANGLE AND CANNOT GET THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. WORSE GM CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED. *TT

I WAS GOING TO LEAVE FOR WORK AT 3:25 PM, MARCH 4, 2014. I GOT IN , STARTED THE CAR, PLACED THE CAR IN REVERSE, AND BEGAN TO BACK OUT, WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE WHEEL BECAME REALLY HARD TO STEER, I COULDN'T STEER AT ALL. MY POWER STEERING WAS GONE. I WAS PANICKED, AND HAD TO CALL OUT FROM WORK, I KNEW I WAS LUCKY THAT IT DIDN'T HAPPEN WHEN I LEFT WORK THE NIGHT BEFORE. IT REALLY STRUCK ME THAT THANK GOD IT DIDN'T HAPPEN WHEN I WAS ON THE FREEWAY, OR DRIVING UP THE MOUNTAIN TO RUNNING SPRINGS, TO SPEND THE WEEKEND WITH MY FIANCEE. LUCKY THAT IT HAPPENED IN MY DRIVEWAY. WHEN I INVESTIGATED THE RECENT RECALLS FOR POWER STEERING RECALLS, I NOTICED THAT MY CAR WAS NOT APART OF THAT PARTICULAR RECALL...WHY NOT! I THOUGHT, WHAT WOULD IT HAVE TAKEN, MY DEATH? SO, I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC, WHO ALSO THOUGHT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PART OF THE RECALL AS WELL...I HAD TO PAY FOR THE POWER STEERING COLUMN MYSELF, AT $400, AND REMOVE AND REPLACE THE COLUMN AT $150, PLUS TAX OF $48.00, FOR THE GRAND TOTAL OF $598. THIS UNEXPECTED EXPENSE CAUSED A FINANCIAL HARDSHIP THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED HAD GM INCLUDED MY CAR IN THE POWER STEERING RECALL. I'M LUCKY THAT UNLIKE THE OTHERS WHO HAD TO DIE TO INITIATE THIS RECALL, I'M STILL HERE. GM, I WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE, WHAT I AM ASKING FOR IS LESS THAN THE LAWSUITS OF THE FAMILIES OF THOSE WHO DIED, ARE ASKING FOR. BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY, HAD I BEEN ONE OF THOSE UNFORTUNATE VICTIMS, MY FAMILY WOULD BE ONE OF THOSE SEEKING DAMAGES AGAINST GM. *TR

UNABLE TO DRIVE MORE THAN 30 MPH,WITH CAR STILL SHAKING DROVE 1 MILE TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC, WHEN MECHANIC RESTARTED CAR AND CONDUCTED DX TEST AND RESET CODE THE PROBLEM RESOLVED, NO FURTHER INCIDENTS AFTER MILES OF TEST DRIVING. HESITANT TO DRIVE CAR ANY LONG DISTANCE FOR FEAR IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN AND CURIOUS IF OTHER HHR DRIVERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM OR IF THERE WAS A SILENT RECALL.. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND STOPPED AT A DRIVE THRU COFFEE SHOP. AFTER RECEIVING MY ORDER AND DROVE OFF, I LOST MY POWER STEERING. MY POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND I CONTINUED DRIVING HOME. THANKFULLY, I ONLY LIVE A COUPLE OF MILES AWAY, THOUGH DRIVING HOME WAS DIFFICULT. WHILE TURNING ON ONE STREET, I ALMOST HIT A CAR, AS IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT MAKING A TURN. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING MOTOR WHICH WILL COST ME 312.00 DOLLARS. I AM UPSET THAT THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT ADMIT TO THE FAULTY MOTOR, AS I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS DEALING WITH THE SAME ISSUE.
