TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED TO THE SHOULDER AND RESTARTED AND IT BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT THEY PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING ASSIST WENT OUT TWICE OVER THE PAST WEEKEND. THE FIRST TIME IN A PARKING STRUCTURE WHILE TRYING TO TURN INTO A TIGHT SPOT. LATER WILL DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES PER HOUR. POWER STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL FUNCTION EACH TIME AFTER TURNING OFF THE IGNITION. NOBODY WAS HURT IN EITHER EVENT, BUT WITH SNOW COMING TO THE MIDWEST I FEAR WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED ON A SNOW-COVERED ROAD. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE AND THAT GM REFUSES TO RECOGNIZE THIS ISSUE IN THE UNITED STATES FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL DESPITE A RECALL IN CANADA. *TR
I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT JUST CAME ON. IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY SO I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER TO LOOK AT THE ISSUE (3 TIMES) AND THE LIGHT WENT OUT AND CAME BACK ON. NOW THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE LIGHT IS ON STEADY. I TRIED DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY BUT THAT DID NOT CLEAR THE LIGHT. SINCE I HAVE THE HISTORY ESTABLISHED WITH THE DEALERSHIP, I THINK THAT THEY SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AND MAKING MY TURN THE POWERSTEERING WENT OUT ON MY 2010 CHEVY HHR .THIS HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES NOW,THE CHIME WOULD SOUND AND POWER STEERING SHOWED IN THE DASHBOARD AND AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR IT SEEMED OKAY .I SEE THERE IS ALOT OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAFETY ISSUE AND THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESS BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED BECAUSE IT IS VERY HARD TO COMPLETE A TURN WITH NO POWER STEERING AND YOU JUST DON'T EXPECT THAT TO HAPPEN WHICH IS MORE SCARIER. *TR
YESTERDAY MORNING COMING HOME FROM CHURCH OUR 2010 HHR POWER STEERING WENT OUT. WE WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN AND THANK GOD NO ONE WAS COMING IN THE OTHER LANE. IN THE MIDST OF THE TURN THE WARNING BELL SOUNDED AND THE DISPLAY SHOWED "POOR STEERING", NO OTHER WARNINGS BEFOREHAND. AND ALL POWER STEERING WAS GONE. IT WILL COMEBACK FOR A FEW SECONDS IF YOU TURN THE CAR OFF, BUT GOES RIGHT BACK OUT EVERYTIME. I LOOKED ON THE INTERNET TO FIND I AM NOT ALONE, 1000?S OF PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED AND HAD THIS SAME EXACT EXPERIENCE. WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN RECALLED, DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE FIRST? MY WHOLE FAMILY COULD HAVE BEEN INJURED (ME, MY HUSBAND, OUR 17 YEAR OLD SON, AND 2 GRANDBABIES!) WE TOOK THE CAR IN TODAY (10-29-12) TO BE LOOKED AT (THAT COST $85.00) AND THEY SAID THE POWER STEERING MOTOR HAS TO BE REPLACED AND THAT WILL BE ANOTHER $250.00! *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT DINGED AND I HAD BEEN MAKING A TURN WHICH ALMOST CAUSED A ACCIDENT NOT KNOWING WHY IT WENT OUT. I CAN DRIVE THE CAR FOR 1 OR 2 MILES AND IT KEEPS GOING OUT AND I HAVE TO RESTART THE CAR FOR IT TO BE WORKING AGAIN BUT IM TOLD IT SOME TYPE OF MODULE THAT CONTROLS IT AND ITS NOT COVERED BY ANY WARRANTY. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, THE POWER STEERING WARNING CAME ON, AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY FOR THE LAST FOUR DAYS. *TR
KEY STUCK IN IGNITION, COULD NOT SHUT DOWN ENGINE. DEALER REPLACE IGNITION CYLINDER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET HHR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED SHE WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION BECAUSE IT WAS STUCK IN THE ON POSITION. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT IN ORDER TO TEMPORARILY REMEDY THE FAILURE SHE HAD TO REMOVE THE FUEL FUSE AND DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE.THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
SAME ISSUES AS OTHERS. KEY WILL NOT TURN TO OFF POSITION, WILL NOT RELEASE FROM IGNITION. ISSUE IS NOTED ALL OVER THE INTERNET. THEY HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED AND ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR 2009 MODEL YEAR, BUT NOT FOR ANY OTHER MODEL YEARS. FOR NO REASON THE CHIME STARTED TO CHIME AND THE AIRBAG LITE COME ON,,,THE CAUSE OF THIS LITE COMING ON WAS A HARNESS UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT NOT MAKING A CONNECTION ,,,BUT INTILL I FOUND OUT WHAT IT WAS I DROVE IN FEAR THAT THE AIRBAG WAS GOING TO DEPLOY FOR NO REASON AND CAUSE ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT,, IAM NOT THE ONLY ONE THIS HAPPENED TO ,,,I FOUND OUT ON THE HHR NETWORK ITS A COMMON DEFECT WITH CHEVY HHRS
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROX 40 MPH THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON THE CAR MAKING IT VERY HARD TO TURN. THE WARNING ALARM SOUNDED AND THE WORD "POWER STEERING" LIT UP ON THE DASH PANEL. I PULLED THE CAR OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND SHUT IT OFF. THE STEERING WORKED PROPERLY UPON RESTART. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES NOW. *TR
ON TWO OCCASIONS WITHIN THE 3YR/36,000MILE WARRANTY, THE ESC AND ANTILOCK TEMPORARILY WENT OUT WITH DASHBOARD NOTIFICATION. NO ESC PROBLEMS SINCE, SO IT WAS NOT TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP. IN THE MEANTIME, WE HAVE A POWER STEERING PROBLEM THAT ONLY OCCURRED ONCE DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD AT 35,000 MILES. NOW, AT 40,000, THE PROBLEM HAS WORSENED SO THE POWER STEERING FAILS EVERY TRIP. THE CAR STEERS HARD WHEN THIS OCCURS, OBVIOUSLY. RESTARTING THE CAR RESOLVES THE PROBLEM FOR A FEW MINUTES. *TR

I WAS COMING HOME AND HEARD A CHIME, THEN THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING. COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL, I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT, WORKED FOR A FEW MINUTES, LONG ENOUGH SO I COULD PARK IT. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY, THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS AND REPAIRED IT UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS THANKFUL FOR THAT, BUT I AM CONCERNED ABOUT OTHER CAR OWNERS THAT DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND MAY BE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT A MUCH FASTER SPEED WHEN THE POWER STEERING SHUTS DOWN. THERE SHOULD BE A TOTAL RECALL ON THIS DEFECT! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE IN A PARKING AREA. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTING THE ENGINE THE STEERING FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE PERSISTED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,500.
I WAS DRIVING HOME ON A SECONDARY ROAD IN THE FOOT HILLS OF NORTH CAROLINA WHILE IT WAS RAINING LAST NIGHT WHEN I WAS GOING IN A CURVE AND SUDDENLY THE POWER STEERING CUT OUT AND I COULDN'T TURN THE VEHICLE PROPERLY. I WAS TRAVELING APPROX. 35 MPH GOING INTO THE CURVE AT THE TIME OF THE PROBLEM, DUE TO THE SUDDEN PROBLEM, I HAD CROSSED THE CENTER LINE OF THE ROAD DUE TO THE LOSS OF PROPER STEERING AND THE WET ROADS, EVEN THOUGH I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND TRIED TO TURN. I HEARD A CHIME AND SAW THE TROUBLE INDICATOR SHOWING A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING. I FORTUNATELY DIDN'T HAVE ANY ON COMING TRAFFIC OR ANYONE BEHIND ME AT THE TIME OR THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS INJURY ACCIDENT. LIVING IN THE FOOT HILLS OF NC WITH MANY CURVES AND HILLS THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED WITH THE POWER STEERING AND HHR VEHICLES. I WAS ONLY A MILE FROM HOME SO I DROVE THERE AND CHECKED TO SEE WHAT WAS HAPPENING. WHEN I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING APPEARS TO HAVE CORRECTED ITSELF. CHECKING ON LINE FOR POSSIBLE REASONS FOR THE PROBLEM, I AM MADE AWARE THAT THE HHR'S AND OTHER VEHICLES THAT USE THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING HAVE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES (EVEN RECALLS) FOR A WHILE NOW. I FIND IT UNACCEPTABLE NOT TO INCLUDE THE HHR VEHICLE SINCE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL VEHICLE. AS AN INDIVIDUAL WHO WORKS IN THE SAFETY & HEALTH FIELD, I STRIVE TO KEEP INCIDENTS FROM OCCURRING THAT COULD LEAD TO FATALITIES, INJURIES AND OR PROPERTY DAMAGE AND FEEL THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE DONE TO PREVENT THE POTENTIAL LOSS OF LIFE FROM OCCURRING. I AM ALSO A CERTIFIED DEFENSIVE DRIVER INSTRUCTOR THROUGH THE NC SAFETY COUNCIL FOR CARS AND TRANSFER TRUCKS. RESPONDING TO VEHICLE ACCIDENTS IS PART OF MY JOB AND I MUST EMPHASIZE THAT THE ISSUE OF STEERING CONTROL ON ANY VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE DEBATED OR SAT UPON UNTIL LIVES ARE LOST. *TR
BOTH INSIDE FRONT DOOR HANDLES BROKE OFF BEFORE THE CAR WAS 2 YEARS OLD. I AM DISABLED AND WITH THE OTHER PROBLEMS I AM REPORTING THAT ARE RELATED TO THIS CAR, THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT WOULD TRAP ME IN THE CAR IF THERE WERE EVER AN ACCIDENT. WITH THE WINDOWS NOT BEING ABLE TO BE ROLLED DOWN FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE CONTROL PANEL IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN THE TWO FRONT DOORS IF YOU DON'T HAVE SMALL ENOUGH FINGERS TO REACH INSIDE THE DOOR AND UNLATCH THE MECHANISM. EVERYONE I HAVE SPOKEN WHO HAS AN HHR ARE ALSO HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS.
I WENT TO A MEETING AND WHEN I PARKED AND TRIED TO TURN THE CAR OFF, IT WOULDN'T LET ME TURN IT OFF. I AM A FEMALE AND DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO , SO I HAD TO CALL MY HUSBAND AND HE CAME AND HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY SO IT WOULD SHUT OFF. THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON THE CAR AT HIGH OR LOW SPEEDS. YOU CAN TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT AND THE STEERING COMES BACK, BUT 15 SECONDS LATER IT GOES OUT. CANADA HAS A RECALL ON THE SAME ISSUE WHY DO NOT WE. ALSO THE SAME PART IS IN THE CHEVY COBALT AND THAT IS RECALLED. *TR
AIRBAG HARNESS UNDER PASSENGER SEAT DEFECTIVE ,,MAKING AIRBAG LIGHT COME ON AND STOPPING AIRBAGS FROM WORKING IN A TIME OF A CRASH. *TR
MY 2010 HHR : THE DRIVERS SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE SNAPPED OFF AND HAVE TO PUT DOWN THE WINDOW TO EXIT THE CAR. WHEN THIS HAPPENED THERE WAS NO EXCESSIVE PRESSURE USED TO OPEN THE DOOR. DISSATISFIED THAT IT IS COMPOSED OF A SOFT PLASTIC MATERIAL. THE COST TO REPLACE THE HANDLE REQUIRES AN NEW DOOR PANEL AND 2+ HOURS OF LABOR FOR A TOTAL OF OVER $500.00. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT APP. 70-75 MILES PER HOUR IN MODERATE TO HEAVY TRAFFIC THE POWER STEERING TURNED OFF. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF ONTO THE SHOULDER AND PARK. I SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE TO CHECK UNDER THE HOOD AND UNDER THE CAR BUT COULD FIND NOTHING OBVIOUS. WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR TO DRIVE TO THE NEXT OFF-RAMP THE POWER STEERING WAS BACK. THE PROBLEM REPEATED 3 MORE TIMES THAT TRIP. SHUTTING OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTING ALWAYS CORRECTS THE PROBLEM. SINCE THAN WE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY. NO PATTERN AS TO WHEN PROBLEM OCCURS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING HOME THE OTHER NIGHT, THE POWER STEERING WARNING CAME ON AND I ALMOST VEERED OFF THE ROAD INTO A DITCH. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE THEN. I HAVE HEARD THAT GM HAS RECALLED THE SAME EPS IN THE PONTIAC G6, WHY NOT FOR THE HHR. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY DEALER TO LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM, AS IT IS DANGEROUS ON THE ROADS AROUND ME (WINDING AND DEEP DITCHES). *TR

DRIVING STRAIGHT AT 55 MPH. THE POWER STEERING FAILED WITHOUT WARNING, ABOUT 10 SECONDS INTO FAILURE THE WARNING INDICATOR CAME ON. DEALER CHECKED AND ADVISED THE CODE INDICATED THE PS MOTOR OVERHEATED. HAD THIS HAPPENED IN A TURN OR IN A PANIC SITUATION THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY. *TR

I WAS DRIVING MY CAR TO THE DOLLAR STORE AND WAS STOPPED AT THE RED "LEFT TURN" ARROW, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE "POWER STEERING" SIGN FLASHED ON MY DASHBOARD AND MY CAR MADE A "DING DING" NOISE. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I TURNED LEFT AND IT WAS EXTREMELY HARD FOR ME TO TURN THE WHEEL. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE. I WILL TURN THE CAR OFF, AND WHEN I TURN THE CAR BACK ON, IT DRIVES FINE FOR THE FIRST FEW MINUTES, AND THEN THE "POWER STEERING" SIGN CAME BACK ON. THE "POWER STEERING" SIGN HAS ALSO APPEARED WHEN I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN WHICH CAUSED THE WHEEL TO LOCK UP IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN. THE CAR JERKED AND I ALMOST CRASHED INTO A BLACK SEDAN. I HAVE A SMALL CHILD WHO SITS IN THE BACK SEAT. I DON'T HAVE MUCH MONEY, SO I CAN NOT AFFORD TO PAY THE DEALERSHIP TO GET THIS ISSUE FIXED. I TOOK IT TO A CHEAP REPAIR SHOP, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND THE ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING ONLINE TO FIND WHAT WAYS I CAN FIX THIS WITHOUT IT COSTING ME A LOT OF MONEY. HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND A SOLUTION, SO I AM CURRENTLY DRIVING WITH NO "POWER STEERING" WHICH CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS. IN ADDITION TO MY POWER STEERING GOING OUT, A COUPLE MONTHS AGO, I WENT OUT TO MY CAR TO GET IN MY CAR, AND PUT MY KEY IN THE IGNITION AND TURNED THE CAR ON. MADE IT TO THE STORE, AND WHEN I WAS GETTING READY TO GET OUT OF THE CAR, THE KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. I COULD NOT TURN IT, OR ANYTHING. THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN OFF. I HAD TO HAVE AAA DISCONNECT MY BATTERY SO THAT MY CAR DIDN'T HAVE TO STAY RUNNING UNTIL THE DEALERSHIP OPENED IN THE MORNING. MY KEY HAD TO SIT IN THE IGNITION OVER NIGHT, SOMEONE COULD HAVE STOLEN MY CAR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT MORNING AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE IGNITION CYLINDER. *TR
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT RUSH HOUSE, DASHBOARD DING'D AND POWER STEERING WENT OUT COMPLETELY. I WAS LUCKY I WAS ON A STRAIGHT ROAD BUT TO MAKE TURNS TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY TO SAFETY WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. BROUGHT IT TO MONROE MUFFLER, COULDN'T EVEN PARK MY HHR AS THE STEERING WOULD NOT WORK. VERY DANGEROUS. ARRIVED HOME FROM GROCERY SHOPPING AND I PARKED MY VEHICLE. I TRIED TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF AND THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN. I PULLED THE POWER CABLE OFF THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. I LIVE IN A TOWNHOUSE SUB-DIVISION AND DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION SO I REMOVED THE IGNITION CYLINDER. I CALLED THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND THEY TOWED IT TO THEIR SHOP. THE LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE AND TOLD ME IT WAS UNDER OEM WARRANTY AND THEY HAD IT TOWED TO A CHEVROLET DEALER TO HAVE IT FIXED. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY WOULD FIX THE IGNITION SWITCH UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE HOUSING WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT A COST TO ME. THEY REPLACED THE PARTS AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE DEALERSHIP CALLED THE NEXT DAY AND SAID THE ECM (ENGINE CONTROL MODULE) WOULD NOT HOLD ITS PROGRAMMING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT MY COST. TOTAL REPAIR $1275.00. *TR
POWER STEERING QUIT WORKING GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, PULLED OVER SHUT THE CAR OFF, RESTARTED WORKED FINE FOR ABOUT 2 DAY, THEN WENT OUT AGAIN, NOW IT GOES OFF ALL THE TIME. THIS MAKES IT HARD TO STEER,COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. DEALER SAID HAVE TO PUT ON COMPUTER AND FIND OUT WHAT WAS DOING IT, ALL CHARGES TO ME.I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE AND WAS TOLD THAT SAME STEERING IS IN OTHER CHEVROLET VEHICLES THAT WERE RECALLED, NOT THE HHR. *TR
POWER WINDOWS: UNABLE TO ROLL DOWN ANY WINDOW EXCEPT THE DRIVER SIDE USING THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR PANEL. THIS, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE DOOR HANDLES BREAKING OFF WHEN THE CAR WAS BARELY 3 YEARS OLD, MAKES IT A SAFETY CONCERN SHOULD I NEED TO GET OUT OF THE CAR THROUGH THE WINDOWS. I AM ABLE TO ROLL THE WINDOWS UP WHEN USING THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR PANEL BUTTON, JUST UNABLE TO ROLL THEM DOWN. THIS STARTED OUT WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW NOT WORKING, THEN WENT TO THE REAR DRIVER SIDE AND NOW THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW CAN ONLY BE LOWERED BY LOCKING THEN UNLOCKING THE WINDOW AND APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE WINDOW SWITCH AT AN ANGLE. IF I NEEDED TO GET MY SERVICE DOG OUT OF THE BACK SEAT AND WAS UNABLE TO USE THE DOOR, I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO LOWER THE WINDOW WITHOUT EFFORT. THIS PUTS HER LIFE OR THE LIFE OF A HUMAN WHO MAY BE PRESENT IN THE BACK SEAT AT SERIOUS RISK. THIS SLOWLY STARTED A COUPLE YEARS AGO AND HAS ESCALATED. THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER, RIVERSIDE CHEVY IN ROME, GEORGIA, IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT THE COST IS TOO MUCH FOR MY DISABILITY INCOME TO COVER.
2010 HHR 2LT (MANUAL TRANS / FLEX FUEL) BOUGHT NEW. PROBLEM BEGAN SUMMER 2012 @ 10,200 MI. CLICKING & THUD METAL NOISES HEARD & FELT (JERKY & RESONANCE OF METAL STRIKING) COMING FROM LOW DOWN IN BOTH FRONT SECTIONS. INITIALLY OCCURRED ERRATICALLY DURING DRIVING, THEN CONSISTENTLY. OCCURRED: REVERSING; AND ACCELERATING FROM 1ST GEAR INTO 2ND, 3RD, 4TH; DOWNSHIFTING FROM 4TH TO LOWER; AND DURING SLOW STOPS SHIFTING FROM 3RD, 2ND, OR 1ST INTO NEUTRAL. ON 9/14/12 AT 11,242 MI., DEALER FOUND "TOO MUCH CLEARANCE BETWEEN HUB & CV SHAFT" AND AN EXISTING SERVICE BULLETIN #09-04--95-001. REPLACED BOTH WHEEL DRIVE SHAFT WASHERS. (NOTE: NOISE & FEELING HAS ERRATICALLY RETURNED. HOWEVER, DEALER DID NOT HEAR IT DURING 3/4/13 TEST DRIVE AT 13,313 MILES. BUT I HEARD IT ON THE WAY HOME A COUPLE OF TIMES. AND LAST YEAR, IT WAS ERRATIC BEFORE BECOMING CONSISTENT....). *TR
RETURNING HOME FROM DINNER WITH MY HUSBAND, HE PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD NOT TURN OFF, THOUGH HE REPEATEDLY TRIED. WITH THE ENGINE STILL RUNNING, WE HAD NO RECOURSE BUT FOR HIM TO TAKE IT TO A CHEVROLET DEALER 30 MILES AWAY, WHERE THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH, AND REPROGRAM THE COMPUTER AND KEY FOBS. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT WITH THE HHR. WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL? THEY HAVE EVEN MANUFACTURED A REPLACEMENT PART FOR THIS, SO THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM. IT WILL COST US OVER 300.00 TO GET THIS REPLACED, AND I DON'T FEEL IT IS OUR FAULT THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED, TO US, AND THE MANY OTHER HHR OWNERS WHO ARE WONDERING WHERE IS THE RECALL?? ON APPROXIMATELY MARCH 26 2012 AT NIGHT ON A TRIP FROM PHOENIX AZ TO RENO NV MY VEHICLE LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS WENT OUT, I DROVE FROM KINGMAN AZ TO INDIAN SPRINGS NV WITH JUST MY HIGHBEAMS AFTER STOPPING IN INDIAN SPRINGS AND TRYING EVERY KNOB AND SWITCH IN THE VEHICLE THE FRONT LOW BEAMS CAME ON. THEN IN THE MONTH OF APRIL THE LOW BEAMS WENT OUT ALL TOGETHER AND AFTER BEING IN THE SHOP FOR 2 DAYS IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A RELAY PROBLEM AND REPAIR WAS MADE AND I HAD LOW BEAMS AGAIN, BUT NOW THE HORN DOESN'T FUNCTION AND AFTER BEING PULLED OVER BY THE POLICE I WAS ADVISED THAT MY TAILLIGHTS ARE OUT. BOTH PROBLEMS POSSIBLY RELATED TO A FUSE OR RELAY PROBLEM BUT I HAVEN'T HAD IT IN THE SHOP YET. NOW WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEH IN SEPTEMBER OF 2011 I NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUTTER TO A STOP WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, SOMETIMES VIOLENTLY. MY MOTHER AND I WERE TRAVELING TO MY DAUGHTERS GRADUATION AND IT COMPLETELY LOCKED HER INSIDE. SHE COULD NOT GET THE DOOR OPENED AT ALL EVEN THOUGH I HIT THE UNLOCK BUTTON AND SHE TRIED MANY TIMES TO DO THE SAME THING ON HER SIDE. WATER STARTED COMING IN VEHICLE FROM HOOD RELEASE LEVER ON DRIVER SIDE KICK PANEL WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER, REPAIRED. HOWEVER DURING THE NEXT SEVERE RAIN STORM APPROXIMATELY 5 MONTH LATER IT AGAIN FAILED AND LEAKED AGAIN. DEALER STATED IT WAS REPAIRED THE SECOND TIME, HOWEVER AGAIN 4 MONTHS LATER DURING A SEVERE RAIN STORM IT AGAIN FAILED AND LEAKED. IT WAS NOT REPAIRED THE THIRD TIME, DEALER STATING THAT IT WAS NOT LEAKING, AND NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. DEALER REFUSES TO HONOR WASHINGTON LEMON LAW. DEALER INITIATED A TRADE FOR THE VEHICLE, HOWEVER ONLY WANT TO GIVE 1/2 WHAT PAID FOR THE VEHICLE 11 MONTHS EARLIER. HAVE FOUND MULTIPLE REFERENCES THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE BUT NO RECALL DONE ON VEHICLE, ONLY STOPPED MANUFACTURING IT. *TR

I RETURNED FROM THE GROCERY STORE AND MY KEY COULDN'T SWITCH OFF THE IGNITION OR BE WITHDRAWN. THE CAR WAS RUNNING WHILE I DID SOME RESEARCH AND TRIED OUT THE PLUNGER RELEASE THAT WORKED FOR OTHERS. I DISCOVERED THAT THE PLUNGER TO RELEASE THE LOCK IS WORKING PROPERLY, SO IT MUST BE THE IGNITION LOCK ITSELF THAT IS DEFECTIVE. I FOUND THE FUSE BLOCK AND LOCATED THE FUEL PUMP FUSE AND PULLED IT TO STALL THE ENGINE. THE IGNITION IS STILL ON, BUT SINCE IT'S 9PM, I'LL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL TOMORROW BEFORE I CAN GET IT CHECKED. *TR
