TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH AT NIGHT ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ACTIVATED. SUDDENLY, BOTH HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO OPERATE. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH EXTREME CAUTION. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE HEADLIGHTS BEGAN TO FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC; HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY. SPEEDOMETER REGISTERS ERRATIC SPEEDS, GOING TO SPEEDS OF 80, 90, 120+ FOR NO APPARENT REASON. EACH TIME THE AUTOMOBILE IS TURNED OFF AND TURNED ON AGAIN, IT USUALLY WILL GO DOWN BY ABOUT 10 MPH. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS, IT WILL RETURN TO NORMAL, BUT THIS PATTERN REPEATS AFTER A DAY OR SO OF REGISTERING CORRECT MPH. THIS STARTED ABOUT A MONTH AGO. WE HAVE CALLED CHEVROLET AND BEEN ADVISED TO HAVE THE CAR CHECKED AT A DEAL FOR DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT, BUT HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND A DEALER WHO WILL RESPOND TO OUR CALL. *TR
MY TURN SIGNALS INTERMITTENTLY DON'T FUNCTION FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, AND THEN SUDDENLY START WORKING AGAIN. RESTARTING THE CAR FIXES THE PROBLEM SOMETIMES, BUT ISN'T VERY HELPFUL WHEN YOU'RE ON THE HIGHWAY TRAVELING SOMEWHERE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT ON BUSY STREETS WHEN YOU CAN'T SIGNAL TO TURN OR MERGE. ALSO, THIS HAS HAPPENED ONLY ONCE, BUT MY CAR WOULD NOT START AS OTHERS HAVE STATED' THE INTERIOR LIGHTS TURNED ON BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN OVER. AFTER TWENTY MINUTES THE CAR STARTED FINE. THIS HASN'T HAPPENED SINCE, BUT IF IT DID IT WOULD BE A MAJOR INCONVENIENCE.. *TR
2004 IMPALA ODOMETER MALFUNCTION IN WINTER COLD WHETHER CONDITION MOST OF THE TIME.
SPEEDOMETER AND TEMP GAUGE ARE NOT WORKING IN IMPALA 2004. THE SPEEDOMETER QUITS WORKING AS I DRIVE. IT WILL COME BACK TO WORKING STATE AFTER I HAVE TURNED OFF CAR AND RESTARTED IT. THE TEMP GAUGE JUST DOESN'T WORK AT ALL. *TR
FIRST THE TACHOMETER QUIT WORKING THEN THE SPEEDOMETER BECAME ERRATIC SAYING I WAS GOING SLOWER THAN I ACTUALLY WAS(CHECKED WITH GPS).I WAS DOING 60 ON THE HIGHWAY AND IT SPEEDOMETER SAID 45,TACHOMETER IS ALWAYS PEGGED OUT !! *TR
I OWN A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. I HAVE NOT BEEN IN A ACCIDENT BUT I FEEL MY PROBLEM COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE ONE. THE SPEEDOMETER IN MY CAR STARTED ACTING UP RECENTLY. IT IS NOT ACCURATE, IT USUALLY READS ZERO WHEN I AM DRIVING BUT SOMETIMES READS A SPEED THAT IS CLEARLY INACCURATE. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON IT AND FOUND OUT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS AND A VERY COSTLY REPAIR. AT THIS POINT IN TIME I CANNOT AFFORD THE REPAIR SO I JUST TRY TO DRIVE SLOW. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION IN MY 2004 IMPALA HAS SLIP SO BAD THAT I WAS ALMOST HIT FROM BEHIND. IT KICKED SO HARD IN RAINING WEATHER THE CAR SWERVE ON THE ROAD. *TR
JUST DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD NO SPECIFIC ROAD JUST NORMAL DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE SPEEDOMETER EITHER GOES UP OR DOWN DOES NOT HAVE CORRECT SPEED SOMETIMES IT WILL GO BACK TO NORMAL AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR AND SOMETIMES AFTER THIRTY MINUTES OR AFTER YOU SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART. IT HAPPENS ABOUT TWICE A WEEK I HAVE NOT REPLACED ANY PARTS AS OF YET TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS FOR SURE. I AM READING ONLINE THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND IT IS THE GAUGES NEED TO BE REPLACE AND THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON CHEVY TRUCKS BUT MINE IS A 2004 IMPALA AND AS OF YET THERE IS NOT ONE AND THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE VERY ANGRY ONLINE REGARDING THIS MATTER AND WANT A RECALL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE THE COST IS ABOUT 600 - 800 DOLLARS DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU GO SO THEY ARE USING GPS SYSTEMS FOR THERE SPEED INSTEAD OF GETTING IT REPAIRED SINCE THE COST IS SO HIGH. *TR
2004 IMPALA, SPEEDOMETER STOPS WORKING WHILE DRIVING. MILEAGE CONTINUES TO WORK AND ALL OTHER INSTRUMENTS CONTINUE BUT SPEEDOMETER FALLS BELOW 0 WHILE DRIVING. *TR
CLUNKING NOISE FROM STEERING COLUMN. I KNOW IT IS THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT AGAIN. IT WAS REPLACED IN NOV. 2007 AND HAS RECURRED 20,000 MILES LATER IN NOV. 2009. DEALER TRYING TO MAKE ME PAY FOR IT AGAIN. *TR
2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA LS SPEEDOMETER SUDDENLY STARTED TO MALFUNCTION. SOMETIMES READS 0 WHEN CAR IS IN MOTION. OFTEN READS -0 AT STOP, JITTERY MOVEMENT WHEN THE INDICATOR MOVES AT ALL, SOMETIMES STOPS @ 20 OR 30 MPH AND WILL NOT SHOW HIGHER NUMBER EVEN WHILE CONTINUING TO ACCELERATE. ACTUAL SPEED CAN NOT BE DETERMINED WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. GM HAS ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE TAHOE FOR THE SAME PROBLEM BUT REFUSES TO RECALL THE DEFECT IN THE IMPALAS . CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND NOT DO TO AGE OR MILEAGE. *TR
WELL I'M SO TIRED OF REPAIRING THE SAME PROBLEM .THIS ABS ISSUES ARE DRIVING ME CRAZY I MEAN I ALREADY REPLACED THE [XXX] COMPUTER THE BEARINGS THE CABLE THAT SENDS THE SIGNAL AND STILL THIS PROBLEM IS GOING ON IN SINCE 2009. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS SYSTEM WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE DRIVER STATED THAT HIS SPEEDOMETER MALFUNCTIONED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH IT INDICATED THAT HE WAS DRIVING 5 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED 3 MONTHS AGO AND THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED 3 TIMES. HE HAS CONTACTED THE DEALER AND TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN TO BE REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE DEALER STATED THAT HE COULDN'T OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE IT WAS WORKING WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
SPEEDOMETER WAS SITTING ON ZERO, AFTER STOPPING IT STARTED MOVING, BUT WAS JERKY. THE SPEED SENSOR HAS BEEN REPLACED. THIS DID NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM. THE TACHOMETER IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY EITHER SO UNABLE TO TELL WHAT MY SPEED IS IN THE CAR. *TR
NEW 2004 CHEVY IMPALA LS FIRST USE 3/23/05. THREE TIMES SINCE PURCHASE I'VE HAD TO REPLACE A WHEEL BEARING & HUB ASSEMBLY. MARCH OF 2006 THE RIGHT REAR, JANUARY OF 2008 THE LEFT REAR, OCTOBER OF 2009 THE RIGHT FRONT. EACH TIME THE ABS AND SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM LIGHTS WERE ON. I PAID $636.31 THIS LAST TIME. THIS APPEARS TO BE A POOR DESIGN AND A SAFETY ISSUE WHICH COULD LEAD TO THE CAR BEING UNDRIVEABLE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE TIRES WOULD BEGIN TO WOBBLE AND THE STEERING WOULD BE AFFECTED IF NOT REPAIRED WITHIN A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME. I'VE SEEN ON LINE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS HAD A PROBLEM WITH THIS DEFECT. I'M CONCERNED THAT THE 4TH ONE WILL FAIL, OR THE OTHER 3 THAT HAVE BEEN REPLACED WILL FAIL AGAIN. I AM #1 CONCERNED WITH MY SAFETY & THE SAFETY OF OTHERS ON THE ROAD. I AM ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT THE MONEY I'VE HAD TO PAY BECAUSE OF THIS DESIGN DEFECT. *TR
SPEED-O-METER NEEDLE PEGS OUT AND WANDERS INADVERTENTLY. JUST HAPPENED ONE DAY. IT IS A CONTINUAL OCCURRENCE. SOME DAYS IT SEEMS TO WORK KIND OF, AND AT OTHER TIMES IT MOVES VERY ABRUPTLY ON THE DIAL AND NEVER SMOOTH LIKE IT SHOULD. IT HAS BEEN THE CAUSE OF BEING PULLED OVER ON 3 OCCASIONS IN THE LAST MONTH DUE TO LACK OF KNOWLEDGE OF MY VEHICLES' SPEED. THERE IS NO WAY TO DETERMINE THE VEHICLES' SPEED WITHOUT IT (AND WITHOUT A GPS DEVICE OR SOMETHING SIMILAR). *TR
SPEEDOMETER HAS A MIND OF IT'S OWN SOMETIMES IT WORKS, SOME TIMES IT DOESN'T, THIS IS A REAL SAFETY CONCERN WHEN I CANNOT TELL THE TRUE SPEED IN WHICH I AM DRIVING. *TR
SPEEDOMETER MALFUNCTIONING. THERE WERE NO KNOWN SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES THAT LED TO THE OCCURRENCE OF THIS ISSUE. ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO, DURING A ROAD TRIP, I NOTICED THAT I WAS DRIVING SLOWER THAN NORMAL TRAFFIC BUT MY SPEEDOMETER STATED I WAS DOING THE SPEED LIMIT 65 MPH. WHEN I LOOKED AT MY GPS, IT STATED I WAS DOING ABOUT 47 MPH. WHEN I SPED UP TO 65 MPH ACCORDING TO MY GPS, I WAS IN THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. AFTER I STOPPED, IT "RESET" ITSELF BACK TO ZERO WHEN THE CAR WAS IDLE. ABOUT A WEEK AGO, IT WON'T RESET ANYMORE. WHEN THE CAR IS OFF, THE NEEDLE POINTS STRAIGHT UP. WHEN THE CAR IS IDLE, THE NEEDLE GOES TO ABOUT 80 MPH. WHEN I'M DRIVING, IT GOES PAST 120 MPH. SO I'M CONSTANTLY USING MY GPS IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN THE PROPER SPEED. I'VE BEGUN TO RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET ANY INFORMATION ON THIS ISSUE. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINT WEBSITES WHERE VARIOUS IMPALA OWNERS (2004-2006) THAT ARE ENCOUNTERING THE SAME ISSUE. I'M NOT WILLING TO REPLACE THIS PART; I HAVE OVER 126,000 MILES ON MY CAR. BUT THERE WERE OTHER OWNERS WHO DID NOT HAVE NEARLY AS MANY MILES AS I HAVE WITH THE SAME ISSUES. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER IN MY '04 CHEVY IMPALA SS IS VERY ERRATIC. IT DISPLAYS INCORRECT SPEED. I WAS TRAVELING @ 70MPH BUT THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYS @ 49 MPH. WHEN STOPPING IT WILL DROP BELOW THE ZERO MARK AT @ 15 MPH. THE NEEDLE TICKS AROUND ON THE FACE OF THE DIAL. THIS SEEMS DANGEROUS TO ME NOT KNOWING THE SPEED YOU ARE TRAVELING. FROM INTERNET RESEARCH I'VE SEEN THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON '04 GM CARS. THIS PROBLEM IS ERRATIC. IN MY OPINION THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THESE CARS. *TR
INCIDENT DESCRIPTION = I PURCHASED RAIN-X WIPER AT WALMART FOR MY 2004 IMPALA VEHICLE. IT COST $17.99+ AND WAS A 22-INCH MODEL. A WEEK OR SO LATER I RAN INTO A HEAVY DOWNPOUR WHILE DRIVING WEST ON I-40 FROM MEMPHIS TO LITTLE ROCK. THE WIPER PORTION OF BLADE ASSEMBLY BEGAN TO WORK ITS WAY OUT OF THE END OF THE HOLDER AND QUICKLY REACHED ABOUT 5 TO 6 INCHES OUTSIDE THE HOLDER. THE RUBBER BEGAN TO WHIP AROUND AND I HAD TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY TO PUT THE RUBBER PART BACK IN PLACE. THIS HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES BEFORE I HAD TO STOP AND SEARCH OUT A MINI-MART WHERE I COULD BUY A ROLL OF ELECTRICAL TAPE TO TAPE THE RUBBER END TIGHTLY ENOUGH SO IT WOULD STOP FLYING OUT OF THE HOLDER. *TR
VEHICLE SPEEDOMETER SUDDENLY QUITS FUNCTIONING. SPEEDOMETER SUDDENLY SHOWS HIGH SPEED (EXAMPLE 120 MPH) WHEN DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEEDS (VERIFIED AT 70 WITH GPS). SPEEDOMETER REMAINS STUCK IN THIS POSITION. I WAS ABLE TO CLEAR THE ERROR AFTER RETURNING HOME AND CYCLING THE IGNITION FROM OFF TO ON SEVERAL TIMES. THIS OCCURRED ON JULY 2009 ALSO UNDER THE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES. *TR
MY 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA IS HAVING MAJOR ISSUES WITH THE WHOLE INTERIOR GAUGE PANEL. I HAVE READ THOUSANDS OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS ABOUT IMPALA MODELS 2003-2006, AND OTHER CHEVY MODELS. THE GAS GAUGE HAS WENT COMPLETELY OUT AND THE MPH GAUGE RANDOMLY GOES HAYWIRE READING THE INCORRECT SPEED, OR NO SPEED AT ALL. THE MOST COMMON RESPONSE IS THAT GM HAS A DEFECTIVE STEPPER MOTOR IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THIS PROBLEM RANGES IN MODEL AND MILEAGE AND COSTS UP TO $600 TO FIX. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE, NOT TO MENTION A HUGE PAIN. GM REALLY NEEDS TO STEP IT UP AND RECALL THIS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE PIECE. I HAVE YET TO REPAIR IT AS I FEEL ITS NOT MY FAULT AND THEY NEED TO FIX THIS DEFECTIVE SAFETY ISSUE. I KNOW I'M NOT ALONE IN THIS COMPLAINT. *TR

I JUST BOUGHT AN IMPALA 2004 THIS JANUARY. I AN ON A FIXED INCOME AND CANNOT AFFORD TO MAKE MANY EXPENSIVE REPAIRS. WHEN WE HAD A COLD SNAP, MY CAR WAS MAKING A WHIRRING NOISE AND I DISCOVERED THAT MY SPEEDOMETER WAS ON ZERO. WHEN THE CAR WARMED UP, THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED TO WORK AGAIN THIS HAPPENED ON THE REMAINING COLD DAYS AND THEN STOPPED. 6 MONTHS LATER, THE SPEEDOMETER IS EITHER ON ZERO OR JUST NOT WORKING PROPERLY. LUCKILY, I DON'T TRAVEL VERY FAR, BUT THIS IS VERY UNSAFE. I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET THAT CHEVY RECALLED THE SPEEDOMETER FOR THE TAHOE, BUT NOT THE IMPALA. I AGAIN AM ON A FIXED INCOME AND CANNOT READILY GET THIS FIXED, BUT UNFORTUNATELY WILL HAVE TO SHELL OUT $500 FOR A PART THAT CHEVY PUT IN KNOWING IT'S DEFECTIVE. *TR
SPEEDOMETER ON 2004 CHEVY IMPALA WITH 41K MILES IS DEFECTIVE. STARTED SPORADICALLY, NOW IT IS ALL THE TIME. SPEEDOMETER MAY SAY I'M MOVING AT 50 MPH WHEN AT A STOP OR OVER 100MPH ON A CITY STREET. I HAVE NOT HAD THE DEFECT FIXED YET. *TR
2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA SPEEDOMETER WITH 60K MILEAGE COMPLETELY WENT OUT OF ORDER. IT COULD POINT AT ANY SPEED GAUGE IN DRIVING. VERY DANGEROUS ON THE ROAD. THOUSANDS OF IMPALA OWNERS REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM ON THE WEB. GM SHOULD RECALL BEFORE ANYONE HAS ROAD ACCIDENT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED THEY MADE A LOUD NOISE AND THE VEHICLE WAS SHAKING. HE PREVIOUSLY HAD THE ENTIRE BRAKING SYSTEM REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE ROTORS WERE DELAMINATING AND THE CALIPERS WERE STUCK. HE WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE BRAKING SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE FAILURE OCCURRED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVEN OFTEN ENOUGH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 38,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 42,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN ON THE VEHICLE, THE IGNITION FAILED TO RECOGNIZE THE KEY. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO WAIT APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES BEFORE THE IGNITION WOULD RECOGNIZE THE KEY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 170,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 183,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY. IT STICKS(DOES NOT RETURN TO 0 MPH WHEN STOPPED) AT THE CURRENT SPEED ON DECELERATION AND INCREASES READINGS FROM THE DECELERATION POINT. SO, CAR APPEARS TO GOING AT 60 MPH EVEN THOUGH IT IS MOVING SLOWLY IN TRAFFIC. CANNOT DETERMINE PROPER SPEED TO ADJUST SPEED TO SPEED LIMITS. HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT COMPLETELY AFTER DARK AT 55 MPH .THE PROBLEM IS IN THE QUALITY OF THE HIGH /LOW BEAM SELECTOR I WAS TOLD .I AM REPLACING THE THIRD SWITCH THIS WEEK 3/16/11 SINCE 09/20/09 . THIS TO ME SEEMS TO BE A GM SAFETY PROBLEM WHICH I THINK SHOULD BE A MFG RECALL . HAVE OWNED MANY OF VEHICLES AND NEVER TOTALLY LOST HEADLIGHTS . THE COST IS ALSO UNHEARD OF CAN BE $500 OR MORE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING 90 MPH, WHICH THEN INCREASED TO 110 MPH. IN ADDITION, THE RPM GAUGE FAILED TO PROVIDE ACCURATE READING LEVELS WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THE FAILURES OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,000.

THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE GAUGE, STARTED WITH NEEDLE NOT RETURNING TO DEFAULT POSITION WHEN ENGINE IS COLD. NOW TEMPERATURE GAUGE SHOWS HIGH TEMPERATURE WHEN IN FACT ENGINE IS COLD. TOTAL HEADLIGHT FAILURE WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH ON U.S. HIGHWAY 287 NORTH OF FT COLLINS, CO. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN CHANGING FROM LOW TO HIGH BEAMS ON THE HEADLIGHTS. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES SINCE THE FIRST TIME LAST FALL BUT WE NOW HAVE THE FOG LAMPS ON SO WHEN THEY FAIL WE AT LEAST HAVE SOME LIGHT THOUGH IT IS MINIMAL. WE THEN HAVE TO FLIP THE HI-LO SWITCH SEVERAL TIMES TO GET THE LOW BEAMS BACK ON. THERE HAS BEEN OCCASION THAT AFTER WE GET THE HIGH BEAMS TO WORK AFTER A FEW MINUTES THEY WILL JUST GO OUT COMPLETELY. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND HAVE FOUND THERE ARE PROBABLY HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE MULTISWITCH GM USED ON 2000-2005 VEHICLES. THE COST TO REPLACE THIS SWITCH IS OUTRAGEOUS $300.00- $600.00 SO I'M SURE THERE ARE A LOT OF VEHICLES ON THE ROAD THAT POSE A HAZARD DUE TO THIS FAULTY SWITCH. MY GIRLFRIEND WHO OWNS THIS CAR LIVES ON A NARROW WINDING MOUNTAIN ROAD AND HAS HAD THESE HEADLIGHT FAILURES IN THE MIDDLE OF CURVES AND IT IS VERY SCARY FOR HER AND PASSENGERS. 2004 CHEVY IMPALA; SPEEDOMETER MISREADING, AND GAS GAUGE MALFUNCTION. MORE PREVALENT IN COLDER CONDITIONS. IT HAPPENS CONSTANTLY BUT OCCASIONALLY WORKS FINE. BEGAN MALFUNCTION IN SUMMER 2009. CONSEQUENCES- SPEEDING TICKETS. NOTHING DONE YET BECAUSE GM STATES THERE HAS BEEN AN INVESTIGATION AND THAT THE IMPALA DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE PARAMETERS OF THE PROBLEM SO THEY WILL NOT HELP. DEALER WANTS EXCESSIVE MONIES TO DO REPAIR IN COMPARISON TO INDEPENDENTS. THIS IS 1 OF 3 CHEVY VEHICLES IN MY FLEET AND ALL 3 ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE OTHER 2 ARE SILVERADOS. ALL BEGAN EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM AT ABOUT 135,000 MILES. ALL ARE 2004 MODELS. HAVE FIXED 1 OF THE SILVERADOS IN ORDER TO DEAL WITH SPEEDING TICKET. THE OTHER SILVERADO SEEMS TO HAVE BEGUN FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY AFTER PARKING FOR SEVERAL DAYS IN WARM ENVIRONMENT. GM & THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE IS BEYOND THE MILEAGE AGREEMENT AND THE IMPALA DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR ANY HELP. ITS SEEMS VERY COINCIDENTAL THAT 3 CHEVY VEHICLES OF THE SAME YEAR MAKE AND SIMILAR MILEAGE WOULD ALL EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM AROUND THE SAME TIME FRAME. *TR

I BOUGHT A 2004 CHEVY IMPALA WITH 76,000 MILE'S ON IT AND I HAVE BEEN HAVING A TON OF PROBLEMS WITH IT EVEN AFTER SPENDING HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS IN SHOP FEES TRYING TO FIX THE PROBLEM'S, THE SPEEDOMETER STICKS OR JUST DOESN'T WORK AT ALL SO I CAN NEVER TELL HOW FAST I'M GOING ALONG WITH THE TEMP. MY IMPALA IS HAVING SEVERAL SAFETY ISSUES WHICH I HAVE NOTICED IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN THESE VEHICLES. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED GM HAS NOT RECALLED THESE ISSUES. FIRST SAFETY ISSUE IS IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL IN WHICH THERE ARE FAULTY STEPPER MOTORS THAT CAUSE MY GAS GAUGE, TEMPERATURE GAUGE AND SPEEDOMETER TO NOT FUNCTION AT ALL. NOT KNOWING HOW MUCH GAS YOU HAVE, HOW FAST YOU ARE GOING, OR WHAT TEMPERATURE YOUR CAR IS. THESE ARE SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES TO ANY DRIVER. SECOND ISSUE, MY PASS LOCK SECURITY SYSTEM IS MALFUNCTIONING. THE SECURITY LIGHT STAYS ON AND CAUSES MY CAR TO NOT START, LEAVING ME AND MY INFANT SON STRANDED FOR UP TO THIRTY MINUTES UNTIL IT DECIDES TO START. MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE OVERNIGHT AND ON 8-6-09, I TRIED TO START THE CAR TO GO WORK AND IT WOULD NOT CRANK. I HAD LIGHTS BUT IT WOULD NOT START. CHECKED BATTERY-O.K. HIT STARTER WITH A HAMMER. VEHICLE STARTED. TAKEN TO GARAGE FOR A NEW STARTED. STARTED INSTALLED; NEXT MORNING IT WOULD NOT CRANK. TOWED TO CHEVY DEALER. TOLD IT NEEDED A NEW PCM(POWERTRAINCONTROLMODULE) WHICH WAS UNDER THE EMISSIONS WARRANTY. VEHICLE NOW STARTS, BUT THE SECURITY WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON AND THE IGNITION SENSOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. ( A NEW BATTERY WAS INSTALLED.) IGNITION KEYS HAD TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THIS FAILURE HAS OCCURRED ONLY 1 TIME SO FAR. I'VE BEEN TOLD THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL VEHICLE AND THE PROBLEM IS IN THE IGNITION SWITCH WHICH MAY FAIL AGAIN AT ANYTIME.

GM SAYS THERE IS NO RECALL AS OF NOW AND THE PROBLEM IS $400 TO $600 TO FIX. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS THE GAUGE CLUSTER. IT IS A 4YR OLD CAR WITH 68K MILES ON IT, I FEEL THAT GM SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE CHEVY TRUCKS AND TAHOE'S FOR THAT YEAR, BUT NOT THE IMPALA'S... THEY USE THE SAME PART NUMBER IN THE GAUGE CLUSTER, SO WHY SHOULDN'T THE IMPALA HAVE A RECALL ON THEM? THIS IS A COSTLY REPAIR AND A VERY DANGEROUS PART TO HAVE GO OUT. I'VE READ THAT PEOPLE CANNOT AFFORD TO REPAIR THEIR CARS, SO THEY ARE DRIVING THEM WITH NO SPEEDOMETER. I AM DOING THIS ALSO, HAVING TO SAVE UP TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. DASH GAUGES NOT MOVING AT ALL, OR WHEN THEY DO WORK THEY ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING CORRECT. MY SPEED WILL SHOW I'M GOING OVER 120 MPH (I KNOW I AM NOT GOING 60). TEMP SHOWS THE CAR IS RUNNING HOT WHEN IT NOT. RPM WILL STAY ON RED. SOME DAYS THE GAUGES WILL WORK FINE AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THEY WILL GO HAYWIRE. I AM TERRIFIED THAT MY GAS GAUGE IS GOING TO STOP WORKING OR SHOW I HAVE MORE GAS THAT I DO AND I END UP RUNNING OUT OF GAS. I AM A 24 YEAR OLD FEMALE AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT I DO IF I RAN OUT OF GAS SOMEWHERE ALL ALONE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO PUT FOR AS THE DATE. IT JUST STARTED HAPPENING AND I CONTINUE TO HAVE THE PROBLEM.
