MY 2004 IMPALA HAS PROBLEMS WITH IT'S LIGHT/DIMMER SWITCH. ONE HAS TO CLICK THE HANDLE TWICE IN ORDER TO DIM/BRIGHTEN THE LIGHTS. A COUPLE OF TIME THE DASH LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS ALL WENT COMPLETELY OUT WHEN I TRIED TO DIM/BRIGHTEN THE LIGHTS. THIS IS A HAZARD. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL!!!!! *TR
MY SPEEDOMETER WOULD SOMEDAYS GO TO 60-120 UPON STARTING THE CAR SOMEDAYS OPERATED FINE. CALLED GMC DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED CAR TOOK IT IN AND HE SAID IT DEFINITELY WAS THE SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER SAID DEFINITELY NOT A SHORT BUT WOULD NOT PUT THAT IN WRITING UNTIL THEY REPLACE THE CLUSTER WITH A REDESIGNED ONE AND THAT WOULD BE 450.00EST. THE SERVICE MANAGER ASSURED ME IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE I JUST WOULD NOT KNOW HOW FAST I WAS GOING VERY FUNNY. HE ALSO ADMITTED TO ME THAT SOME OF THE TRUCK&SUV'S WERE ON RECALL BUT NOT MY 2004 IMPALA YET. SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN READING MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS RE: THIS CLUSTER PROBLEM SINCE 2003 WHY SHOULD I PAY FOR A PART THAT SHOULD BE A RECALL ON ALL GMC CARS AND TRUCKS. IT APPEARS THERE IS ALSO A LEGAL SUIT PENDING REGARDING THIS PART. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED AN INACCURATE READING, REGARDLESS OF THE SPEED BEING TRAVELED. WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION AT THIS TIME. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERN OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 23,000.THE VIN WAS REJECTED FROM THE SYSTEM WHICH WILL BE UPDATED UPON RECEIPT OF THE COMPLAINT FORM.
WHILE DRIVING TO CHICAGO THE TACHOMETER WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE RED. AFTER PULLING OVER TO CONFIRM THE CAR WAS NOT RUNNING HOT, I FOUND THAT I COULD RESET THE GAUGE BY SLOWLY TURNING THE KEY ON AND OFF TO THE ACCESSORY POSITION; UNTIL THE NEEDLE REACHED ITS ORIGINAL POSITION. THIS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN SPORADICALLY FOR A MONTH OR SO, AND THEN I NOTICED I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC, BUT THE SPEEDOMETER WAS ONLY READING 30 MILES PER HOUR. I HAD PREVIOUSLY USED MY CRUISE CONTROL AT THE SET SPEED, AND WAS ABLE TO USE THE 'RESUME' BUTTON TO GIVE ME AN APPROXIMATION OF HOW FAST I WAS CURRENTLY GOING. THIS ALLOWED ME TO GET HOME SAFELY. AGAIN, I WAS ABLE TO RESET THE SPEEDOMETER BY TURNING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION TO THE ON AND OFF POSITION. THE NEXT FAILURE CAME SHORTLY THEREAFTER, WITH THE GAS GAUGE. KNOWING THAT IT WAS A FULL TANK, IT WAS READING EMPTY; AGAIN BEING RESET WITH THE ON/OFF OF THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO GET THESE SAFETY ISSUES TAKEN CARE OF, AND WAS INFORMED THIS WAS GOING TO COST ME $600 BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY... IT ONLY HAS 40K MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO RESOLVE THIS THROUGH CHEVROLET EVER SINCE THEN, AND THEY AGREED TO PAY 1/2. THIS ONLY LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT IT IS INDEED A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER. I CAN'T DRIVE A VEHICLE WITHOUT A SPEEDOMETER, TACHOMETER, OR GAS GAUGE, AND I CAN ONLY WONDER HOW MANY OTHER INDIVIDUALS ARE OUT THERE THAT HAVE BEEN IN THIS SAME SITUATION. *TR
WHILE MY COMPLAINT MAY NOT BE 'SAFETY' RELATED, IT IS CERTAINLY AN ISSUE. I HAVE 2004 CHEVY IMPALA THAT IS SUFFERING FROM A COMMON AND KNOWN PASSLOCK PROBLEM. HOW CAN CHEVY BE ALLOWED TO PRODUCE FAULTY PRODUCTS? IF THIS IS GOING ON HOW DO I KNOW THAT THE SAFETY FEATURES ON MY CAR WILL WORK? I AM SO DISTURBED BY THIS. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2004 CHEVY IMPALA DOES NOT ACCURATELY TELL WHAT SPEED I AM TRAVELING. IT RANDOMLY STICKS AT A SPEED, SETS THE BASELINE AT A RANDOM SPEED AND READS IN THE 100 MPH RANGE WHEN I AM AT A STOP SIGN OR GOING THROUGH RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOODS. I HAVE NOT FIXED THIS PROBLEM AS THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED A $400 REPAIR AND I CANNOT AFFORD A COSTLY FIX TO A PROBLEM THAT IS NOT MY FAULT. THIS OCCURS ALMOST DAILY AND AT RANDOM TIMES, SOMETIMES DURING SHORT TRIPS, OTHER TIMES DURING LONG TRIPS, BOTH IN THE MORNING AND NIGHT, DOES NOT MATTER HOW FAST I AM TRAVELING OR THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE. I LIVE IN NEW ENGLAND AND THIS HAS HAPPENED IN EVERY SEASON. *TR
SPEEDOMETER ON 2004 IMPALA STOPS WORKING--FREEZES UP. HAVE TO STOP CAR AND ABOUT 15 TO 30 MINUTES FOR SPEEDOMETER TO WORK. THIS MALFUNCTION OF THE SPEEDOMETER IS OCCURRING MORE AND MORE. DEALER AND CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID THAT THEY WOULD NOT PAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. GM ISSUED A BULLETIN #07187B STATING THAT THEY WOULD REPAIR THIS PROBLEM ON 2003-2004CHEVROLET AVALANCHE,SILVERADO,SUBURBAN,TAHOE ALONG WITH GMC SIERRA,YUKON ETC. I WANT TO KNOW WHY THE 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT THEY ISSUED AS IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE OTHER VEHICLES.(DEFINITELY A SAFETY PROBLEM) PLEASE HELP ME. *TR
DRIVING ON A DARK RURAL ROAD AT NIGHT AND TRIED TO PUT MY LIGHTS ON HIGH BEAM. THE LIGHTS WENT TOTALLY OUT WHEN I TRIED TO PUT THEM ON HIGH BEAM. PREVIOUSLY DURING THE PAST 3 MONTHS THEY HAVE FLICKERED WHEN I WENT TO PUT THEM ON HIGH BEAM BUT DID NOT GO TOTALLY OUT. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL MORE TIMES TO PUT THEM ON HIGH BEAM AND THE LIGHTS GO OUT TOTALLY EACH TIME SO I DO NOT DARE TO TRY TO PUT THEM ON HIGH BEAM NOW AT ALL. I HAVE CALLED A DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THIS LOOKED INTO. THEY SAY THEY WILL HAVE TO TEST THE CAR FIRST THEN TAKE THE STEERING COLUMN APART AND PROBABLY REPLACE THE SWITCH. ESTIMATED COST UP TO $1000.00 MY CAR HAS ONLY 27,499 MILES ON IT AND I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW IN 2004. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA LS. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER DIAL SUDDENLY BEGAN TO RISE. THE DIAL DID NOT STOP AND WENT INTO THE HUNDREDS WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS REALLY ONLY TRAVELING AT AN ESTIMATED SPEED OF 35 MPH. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE FAILURE STILL OCCURRED. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, THE DIAL DID NOT MOVE. AFTER A FEW DAYS, THE DIAL BEGAN TO DROP AND EVENTUALLY WENT BACK TO ZERO. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE STEEPER MOTOR CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, WHICH HAS NOT YET BEEN DONE. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DEFECT. THROUGH RESEARCH, THE CONTACT FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SAME DEFECT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 63,000.
2004 CHEVY IMPALA... APPROX 80,000 MILES - TACHOMETER & SPEEDOMETER ACTING WEIRD. APPARENTLY THIS IS KNOWN PROBLEM... GM SHOULD RECALL! *TR
INTERMITTENT VECHILE SPEEDOMETER. & TACHOMETER STARTING TWO DAYS AGO, THE SPEEDOMETER ON THIS VECHILE STARTED ACTING ODD. AFTER TURNING A CURVE, THE SPEEDOMETER ROSE TO 70MPH AND REMAINDED THERE. HAD TO TURN MY KEY FROM THE ON TO OFF POSITION MANY TIMES TO GET IT TO RESET. HOWEVER THIS FIX ONLY WORKED FOR A FEW MINUTES. I AM AFRAID THAT IF I CONTINUE TO DO THE KEY CYCLE, MY STARTER WILL BE WORN OUT. ACCORDING TO A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP, THE REPAIR COST FOR THIS WILL BE $600. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN BROUGHT UP TO THE ATTENTION OF GM FOR A RECALL. MANY PEOPLE HAVE ATTEMPTED TO DO SO; HOWEVER, GM DOES NOT SEEM TO CARE. THIS TYPE OF ISSUE CAN CAUSE MANY ISSUES UP TO AND INCLUDING ROAD HAZARDS. IT WOULD BE WISE FOR GM TO PLACE OUT A RECALL FOR THIS. WHEN I GIVE IT A LITTLE GAS TO GO USUALLY JUST WHEN IM FIRST TAKING OFF THE TRACTION CONTROL KICKS IN BUT IF I LET OFF THE GAS IT KICKSBACK OFF. THEN AGAIN, GO A FEW BLOCKS AND HIT THE BRAKES AND THE ANTILOCK BRAKES KICK IN SOME TIMES IT TURNS OFF THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ABS IT SEEM LIKE THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH A LARGE NUMBER OF IMPALAS AND EVERY ONE IS SHELLING OUT A LOT OF MONEY AND STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM I DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG OR SHOULD I TRADE IT IN FOR A FORD I AM 46 AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN FAITHFUL TO CHEVY BUT IF IM STUCK WITH A FACTORY DEFECT FORD HERE I COME. *TR
2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. SPEEDOMETER AND GAUGES DO NOT WORK. STARTED WORKING OFF AND ON THEN TOTAL FAILURE. I SEE ONLINE THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLET IMPALAS AND IS VERY DANGEROUS. ALSO LEAVES A GOOD CHANCE OF SOMETHING HAPPENING TO THE MOTOR AND WE WOULD NOT KNOW THERE WAS A PROBLEM. MANY PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM ARE CALLING FOR A RECALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE STRUCK THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND PUSHED HER INTO A METAL POLE. THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT AND ANOTHER OCCUPANT WERE INJURED, ALTHOUGH BOTH WERE WEARING THEIR SEATS BELTS AT THE TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND HAD TO BE TOWED FROM THE SCENE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
THE HEADLIGHTS GO COMPLETELY OUT OCCASIONALLY WHEN SWITCHING ON THE HIGH BEAMS. IT HAS DONE THIS INTERMITTENTLY FOR SOME TIME. THEY WILL COME ON WHEN YOU SWITCH THEM AGAIN. THE CAR IS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA SS. IT FIRST STARTED IT ABOUT 2 YRS AGO. *TR
2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA SPEEDOMETER OPERATING ERRATIC. DRIVING ON ICE IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE I WAS GOING APPROX 60MPH AND IT SHOWED 38MPH. I WAS GOING PAST THE MILE MARKERS AT ONE PER 60 SECONDS. *TR

WHILE DRIVING ON THE OPEN HIGHWAY, THE SPEED ODOMETER INCORRECTLY RECORDS THE SPEED. IT WILL GET STUCK AT A NUMBER HIGHER THAN ZERO, EG. SPEED ODOMETER SHOWS 60 YET RATE OF SPEED MAY ONLY BE 40, THUS CAUSING A SAFETY HAZARD ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS ISSUE IS WELL DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET. *TR

THE SPEEDOMETER BECAME ERRATIC AND COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING; STUCK ON 80 OR 100 MPH AT ALL TIMES. DANGEROUS TO DRIVE IN POOR WEATHER DUE TO INABILITY TO JUDGE SPEED OF VEHICLE ACCURATELY. THIS COULD LEAD TO POSSIBLE MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT AND/OR SPEEDING TICKETS. NOTHING DONE BY OWNER AT THIS TIME DUE TO COSTLY REPAIR; FEEL GM RECALL APPROPRIATE DUE TO MANY ONLINE COMPLAINTS FOR SAME ISSUE. THIS EQUIPMENT SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
DASHBOARD INDICATORS TURN ON AND OFF RANDOMLY. CAR WON'T START. SYMPTOMS ARE INTERMITANT. *TR
SPEEDOMETER CLUSTER FOR ALL DASH GAUGES HAS GONE OUT. HAVE REPLACED IT 3 TIMES AND STILL HAVING TROUBLE. OTHER CHEVY MODELS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS IN THE RECENT PAST. *TR
CAR HAS HAD SEVERAL MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEMS (1) DEFECTIVE FUEL CAP - LEAD TO FUEL EMISSIONS INTO ATMOSPHERE AND MALFUNCTION OF EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM. (2) DEFECTIVE SPEEDOMETER - COULD HAVE LEAD TO EXCESSIVE SPEED, INAPPROPRIATE SPEED, AND/OR CRASH (3) DEFECTIVE ANTI-THEFT SECURITY SYSTEM - CAN EITHER NOT ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO START, OR CAN CAUSE VEHICLE TO STOP RUNNING AND THEN NOT START UPON OPERATOR COMMAND. COULD LEAD TO DEATH OR DISMEMBERMENT. *TR

OWN 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. HAD VEHICLE INSPECTED FOR PULSATING FEEL IN STEERING SHAFT IN 10-10-2005,08-31-06,01-24-07 AND FINALLY 12-27-08. STEERING SHAFT WAS LUBRICATED ON 08-31-06 FOR INSUFFICIENT LUBRICATION. NOW CHEVROLET DEALER SAYS I NEED TO REPLACE THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT AFTER MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED! PLEASE REFER TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08E063000 COMPONENT: STEERING. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION INTO THIS MATTER. *TR
MY SPEEDOMETER WAS READING 75 AND IT FELT LIKE WE WERE BARELY MOVING. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STOPPED, THE SPEEDOMETER READ 40 MILES AN HOUR.. SO WE CONTINUED ON OUR WAY HOME, AND IT IS STILL STUCK ON 15. I WILL GET CHECKED OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THE REASON THAT I'M COMPLAINING IS THAT I JUST LEARNED OF YOUR WEB SITE BY BROWSING ON MY PC FOR WARRANTY'S ON 2004 IMPALA'S. I READ A LOT OF THE COMPLAINT'S ABOUT PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THERE IMPALA'S. I NOTICED THAT I HAVE OR HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT THEY HAVE, OR HAVE HAD WITH THE STEPPER MOTORS GOING BAD. SOUNDS LIKE THERE IS A RECALL TYPE PROBLEM HERE THAT GM IS NOT TAKING CARE OF IT HAS TO DO WITH ALL GM PRODUCTS FOR THE YEARS 2003 TO 2006. THIS IS NOT A PART THAT CAN BE ABUSED BY THE CAR OWNER. IT IS A DEFECTIVE PART AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BY THE MANUFACTURE. THERE IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE HERE AND NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED. THERE IS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM I HAVE SEEN SEARCHING THE WEB FOR IMPALA SPEEDOMETER PROBLEMS. *TR

WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70MPH THE SPEEDOMETER STUCK AT 70 AND THERE WAS NO WAY TO KNOW WHAT SPEED I WAS GOING. BEING 100 MILES FROM HOME, I CONTINUED ON, GAUGING MY SPEED BY OTHER MOTORISTS. *TR
SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA HAS STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY AND GIVES ERRONEOUS READINGS. CAN READ ANYWHERE FROM 0 TO 120+ MPH AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND FROM 0 TO 60 MPH WHEN YOU ARE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. ADDITIONALLY, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE INSTRUMENT IS ALSO MALFUNCTIONING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER AND THEY INFORM ME THAT THE REPAIR WILL COST $460.00. THE SPEEDOMETER DEFECT IS EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS AS THIS IS AN IMPORTANT PIECE OF SAFETY EQUIPMENT. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE 800-222-1020 WHO ADVISED THAT THEY HAVE A SERVICE BULLETIN #07-187 FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM ON OTHER CHEVROLET MODELS BUT THE IMPALA IS NOT INCLUDED ON THE BULLETIN. NHTSA NOW HAS 48 PAGES OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME VEHICLE. *TR
ON DECEMBER 23RD WHILE DOING NORMAL DRIVING AROUND TOWN MY SPEEDOMETER STUCK AT 50MPH. I WAS MOMENTS EARLIER GOING THE SPEED LIMIT OF 35. AT A COMPLETE STOP IT RAISED TO 60 AND REMAINED STUCK THERE. THROUGH RESEARCH ONLINE I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 396000+ POSTS AND COMPLAINTS REGISTERED ACROSS THE COUNTRY. I FOUND MANY POSSIBLE TEMPORARY "FIXES" AND ONE DID WORK UNTIL TODAY. WHILE AGAIN NORMAL DRIVING MY SPEEDOMETER DROPPED FROM 35MPH TO 0 AND IS NOW STUCK THERE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD FOR DRIVERS, MYSELF AND THOSE AROUND SUCH VEHICLES. A RECALL SHOULD BE DEMANDED. MY CAR IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD WITH NO OTHER PROBLEMS UP TO THIS POINT. IT HAS 70,000+ MILES AND HAS HAD REGULAR SERVICING AND NO OTHER GAUGE PROBLEM SO FAR. *TR
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND NOTICED MY SPEEDOMETER QUIT WORKING. WILL RESET ITSELF AFTER CAR HAS BEEN TURNED OFF AND SAT FOR AT LEAST 30 MINUTES. THIS WAS HAPPENING OCCASIONALLY, BUT NOW IT IS A DAILY THING; ALMOST EVERY TIME I GET IN THE CAR. SOMETIMES THE SPEEDOMETER WILL QUIT AFTER BEING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC OR AFTER HITTING A HARD BUMP AND THEN THE SPEEDOMETER WILL GET STUCK ON ONE FIGURE. SOMETIMES IT IS STUCK ON ZERO OR 25 MPH. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO BE REPAIRED BUT IT WON'T ACT UP FOR THE SERVICE GUY. IT IS A HAZARD WHEN DRIVING BECAUSE NOT KNOWING WHAT SPEED I AM GOING CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. WHEN RESEARCHING FOR A RECALL, I HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT MY HIGH BEAMS WILL SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. IF I HIT THE DIM/BRIGHT SWITCH, THE LOW BEAMS WILL COME BACK ON. 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA SPEEDOMETER WENT ERRATIC AT ~ 65,000 MILES. THE SPEEDOMETER THEN FAILED. DEALER STATED IT IS A FAILED A STEPPER MOTOR AND WILL REQUIRE ~ $500 FOR REPAIR. HAVING THE SPEEDOMETER FAIL CAUSES A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN DUE TO VEHICLE SPEED IS UNKNOWN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED 120 MPH. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PARKED THE VEHICLE, AND THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED 70 MPH. THE CONTACT DROVE TO HIS RESIDENCE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS RELATED TO HIS VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THEY WERE NOT LIABLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,970.
I HAVE HAD A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS WITH MY 2004 CHEVY IMPALA, IT STARTED WITH MY TEMPERATURE GAUGE NOT READING CORRECTLY, BLINKERS WORKING WHEN THEY WANTED TOO AND THEN THE SPEEDOMETER ONE DAY JUST STOPPED AT 5 MPH. THE FINAL STRAW WAS THAT MY SECURITY LIGHT CAME ON AND AFTER I SHUT MY VEHICLE OFF AND TRY TO RESTART IT, IT WOULD NOT START. I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES TO START MY VEHICLE. I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY IMPALA THAT HAS A MALFUNCTIONING SPEEDOMETER. IT WILL READ I AM GOING 140 MPH WHEN I AM ONLY GOING 20 MPH. SOMETIMES IT GOES THE OTHER WAY AND IT WILL READ 0 MPH WHEN I AM GOING 55 MPH. I HAVE READ OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL. I THINK IT IS A DEFECT THAT NEEDS A RECALL. JUST DRIVING NORMALLY TO AND FROM WORK THE SPEEDOMETER WILL STOP WORKING NOT ALLOWING THE DRIVER TO BE ABLE TO TELL HOW FAST THEY ARE GOING. EVEN AFTER SHUTTING THE CAR OFF THE SPEEDOMETER WILL NOT DISPLAY THE PROPER SPEED THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING. THIS IS THE SAME FAILURE THAT GM HAD MADE A RECALL FOR THEIR TRUCKS AND SUV'S BUT WILL NOT FIX THE CAR'S GAUGE CLUSTERS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH IN THE EVENING, THE EXTERIOR HEADLIGHTS ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES FAILED. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND TURNED THE DIMMER SWITCH ON AND OFF, WHICH ALLOWED THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS TO REGAIN POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE DIMMER SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DIMMER SWITCH WAS REPLACED THAT SAME DAY. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL; THEREFORE, THEY WERE NOT LIABLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,924 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,919. THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA STOPS WORKING RANDOMLY. IT SOMETIMES GOES UP WAY PAST 120 MPH. ODDLY, I'M ABLE TO RESET IT BY TURNING THE CAR OFF AND THE TURNING THE KEY TO THE A/C POSITION. THIS ONLY SETS THE SPEEDOMETER BACK A LITTLE WAY EACH TIME SO I HAVE TO TURN THE KEY BACK AND FORTH LIKE 20 TIMES TO GET THE SPEEDOMETER TO RESET BACK TO ZERO. SPEEDOMETER FAILED BY VERY SLOWLY DROPPING TO ZERO MPH WHILE TRAVELING ON I65. I DID NOT REALIZE THE SPEEDOMETER HAD FAILED UNTIL I REALIZED I WAS PASSING OTHER PEOPLE AND THE CAR WAS GETTING QUITE DIFFICULT TO HANDLE. AFTER SLOWING DOWN AND FOLLOWING A GROUP OF TRUCKS I WATCHED THE SPEEDOMETER SLOWLY FALL TO ZERO OVER A PERIOD OF 15 MINUTES OR SO. I HAVE NEVER HAD A SPEEDOMETER DO THIS, THEY EITHER WORKED OR DID NOT WORK. FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS HURT THOUGH ONLY BECAUSE I REALIZED I WAS DRIVING AT A SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER SPEED THAN THE SURROUNDING TRAFFIC WHICH WAS ALREADY AVERAGING 10 TO 15 MPH OVER THE SPEED LIMIT OF 70 MPH. *TR

I HAVE NOTICED THAT FOR THE PAST FEW WEEKS, WHENEVER THE TEMPERATURE IS BELOW 20 DEGREES, THE SPEEDOMETER ACTS FUNNY. THE SPEEDOMETER READS ANYWHERE FROM 25 TO 80 MILES FASTER THAN MY ACTUAL SPEED; TODAY, I WASN'T GOING ANY MORE THAN 30MPH AT THE MOST, AND THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE WAS POINTING DIRECTLY DOWN TO THE CAR FLOOR. A FEW PEOPLE ON A COUPLE OF MESSAGE BOARDS SUGGESTED TURNING THE IGNITION KEY TO 'ACCESSORIES' ON AND OFF RAPIDLY SEVERAL TIMES, BUT ALL IT DID WAS BRING THE SPEEDOMETER DOWN FROM 85 TO 70. *TR
