WHILE MAKING A SHARP TURN AT 30 MPH CONSUMER'S CHILD SEAT BELT BECAME UNATTACHED. THE BUCKLE OF THE BELT STRUCK ANOTHER CHILD IN THE FACE, CAUSING MINOR INJURIES. DEALER EXAMINED THE SEAT BELT AND FOUND NO DEFECTS. *AK
SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT IN 2004 IT HAS BEEN TOWED 3 TIMES TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. SINCE A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS PUT IN THE VEHICLE STILL HAS THIS PROBLEM. THIS HAS HAPPENED OVER A DOZEN OF TIMES. UPDATED 09/25/07 *TR
WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT ROTORS NEEDED TO BE CUT. THE CONSUMER WILL HAVE THE ROTORS CUT. *AK WITHIN 10 MILES OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASE, THE BRAKES BEGUN TO SHUTTER AND VIBRATE. *SC *JB
WHILE ACCELERATING/COASTING STEERING PULLED TO THE RIGHT/LEFT. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
I PURCHASED A 2004 CHERVOLET IMPALA FROM C & O MOTORS IN ST. ALBANS WEST VIRGINIA ON MARCH 23,2004. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD TWO MILES ON THE ODOMETER. EVER SINCE I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE, I HAVE HAD CONTINUED BRAKE PROBLEMS, FRONT END SUSPENSION PROBLEMS, NOISES COMING FROM THE DASH OF THE VEHICLE, AND A POPPING AND CRACKING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. SINCE I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE I HAVE HAD ALL 4 TIRES REPLACED, ALL HUB CAPS REPLACED, ALL LUG NUT COVERS REPLACED, 2 RACK OF PINIONS REPLACED, 2 STEERIND SHAFTS REPLACED, BOTH SIDES OF UPPER MOUNT AND BARINGS REPLACED, FRONT END SUSPENSION BOLTS REPLACED AND TIGHTENED SEVREAL TIMES, AND NO HAVE AN ELETRICAL PROBLEM WHEN ROLLING UP THE WINDOWS THE LIGHTS DIM, AND FRONT HEAD LIGHT LENS ALWAYS HAS MOSITURE IN THEM WHENIT RAINS. *AK
I HAVE HAD MY 2004 IMPALA FOR 18 MONTHS, OF THAT 18 MONTHS IT HAS BEEN IN THE DEALER FOR BRAKES FOUR TIMES. THE ROTORS KEEP WARPING UP. SOME DEALERSHIPS HAVE TOLD ME ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THEY HAVE EVEN REPLACED THE ROTORS ONE TIME. THIS HAS GOTTEN TO BE SUCH A PROBLEM THAT MY FAMILY WILL NOT RIDE IN THIS CAR. WHY CAN'T GM DESIGN A CAR WITHOUT ALL THE PROBLEMS THE IMPALA HAS. *NM
CAR BOUGHT NEW, VIBRATION FROM FRONT END ,DEALER ALIGNED FRONT AND REAR WHICH WAS OUT OF SPEC.(HAVE ALIGNMENT PRINT-OUT FOR BEFORE AND AFTER) AFTER ALIGNMENT UNEASY FEELING STEERING WITH CONSTANT CORRECTION. WILL WANDER L&R. WHEN STOPPING STEERING WHEEL WILL OCCASIONALLY JERK TO THE LEFT, PULLS RIGHT UPON ACCELLERATION. SCAREY DRIVING IN RAIN - HYDROPLANES EASILY. MY CONCERNS ARE FOR HANDLING / BRAKING IN WINTER CONDITIONS OF ICE AND SNOW.*AK
WHEN GOING DOWN AN INCLINE AND APPLYING THE BRAKES OR STOPPING THERE WAS A NOISE AND A LOUD BOOM. DEALER TOLD CONSUMER THAT IT WAS THE FUEL TANK. *AK THE FUEL TANK WAS REPLACED BUT THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *NM
I HAVE RENTED SEVERAL GM VEHICLES OVER THE LAST YEAR AND FOUND THAT IN MOST EVERY ONE OF THEM IT IS POSSIBLE TO SHIFT THE CAR FROM PARK WITHOUT APPLYING THE BRAKE WHILE THE KEY IS IN THE ACC POSITION. *AK
AT RANDOM TIMES IT WILL NOT START ,IT HAS DONE THIS EVER SINCE WE BOUGHT IT. ITS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA .AT RANDOM TIMES THE SIGNAL LIGHTS WILL NOT WORK THE SECURITY LIGHT COMES ON IT AND STAYS MAYBE A DAY MAYBE 2. AT TIMES THE TRANSMISSION JUMPS SO BAD WE HAVE TO PULL IT OVER AND TURN IT OFF WAIT A FEW MINUTES THEN TURN THE CAR BACK ON THE WE CAN PROCEED TO DRIVE IT. IT MAY CRANK THEN WE STOP AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND GO BACK TO IT AND IT WILL NOT CRANK . WE HAVE HAD TO WAIT ANYWHERE FROM 15 MINUTES TO 1 HOUR RANDOMLY MOVING THE TRYING TO GET IT TO START. WE HAVE HAD IT BACK AND FORTH TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER OFF AND ON EVER SINCE WE'VE HAD THE CAR THEY SAY THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT IF THEY CANNOT GET IT TO DO IT . I HAVE ALMOST GOTTEN RAN OVER SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE OF IT ACTING UP. ITS GOT 100,000 MILES ON IT NOW. SO WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT AND HOPE FOR THE BEST. RECALL O4V-287.*MR THE VEHICLE THE CONSUMER RENTED HAD STEERING PROBLEM WHICH RESULTED IN A CRASH. LATER THE CONSUMER FOUND OUT ABOUT A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. *NM
ALL PROBS WITH 2004 IMPALA SS STARTED AFTER 3 MONTHS OF PUCHASE DATE. THERE WERE LESS THAN 3,000 MILES ON CAR. 1ST INCIDENT - WHILE MAKING RIGHT TURN AT 20 MPH, CAR DIED 1/2 WAY THROUGH TURN. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND ENDED UP GOING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. LUCKILY MADE IT TO OPPOSITE SIDE OF ROAD W/ HARM. CAR WOULDNT START AT ALL. DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT. REPLACE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR. 2ND INCIDENT - APPROX 3 WEEKS AFTER 1ST, I WAS STOPPED TO DROP PASSENGER OFF, CAR STARTED TO SHAKE AND IDLE WAS HIGH, 2 SECONDS LATER CAR DIED. CAR RESTARTED THIS TIME, DRIVING HOME ABOUT 35MPH CAR DIED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, STEERING LOCKED AND HAD TO STRUGGLE TO GET CAR OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD. CAR WOULD NOT RESTART THIS TIME. DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT AGAIN REPLACED THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR. 3RD INCIDENT - GOT THE CAR BACK ON A FRIDAY AFTERNOON, THE CAR DIED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING BY SATURDAY NITE. DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT LOOKED A LITTLE FURTHER THAN CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR THIS TIME AND REPAIRED LOOSE PIN CONNECTIONS IN IGNITION COIL MODULE CONNECTOR. 4TH INCIDENT - 2 MONTHS AFTER ALL THIS, CIGARETTE LIGHTER DOESNT WORK, LIGHTS DIM WHEN POWER WINDOWS PUT UP, DASH BOARD SENSOR THAT GETS OFF WHEN LOW FUEL LIGHT/ LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT COMES ONDOES NOT RESET. CAR STILL FEELS SLUGGISH. LOUD SCRATCHING NOISEOCCURS WHEN WHEELS TURNED ALL THE WAY IN ONE DIRECTION. EVERYTHING FIXED B/C OF BLOWN FUSE. SCRAPING NOISE COMING FROM LOOSE CLIP IN TIRE WHEEL WELL. DEEALERSHIP STATED CAR WAS RUNNING FINE AND THERE WAS NO PERFORAMANCE PROBLEMS. THIS HAS HAPPENED OVER THE LAST 6 MONTHS. CAR PRESENTLY HAS 4500 MILES ON IT. OH AND CHEVROLET ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. AND THEN TO TOP EVERYTHING OFF THE DEALERSHIP MAKES IT SEEM LIKE ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS ARE CAUSED BY THE DRIVER, BY ASKING WELL WHAT GAS DO YOU USE AND HOW FAST DO YOU DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS CAR IS AN IMPALA SS. THE CAR IS SUPPOSED TO BE BUILT FOR PERFORMANCE. *AK
ON GOING PROBLEM OF MOISTURE BUILD UP IN HEAD LIGHT HOUSING. DEALER STATES THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR ALL CHEVY IMPALAS AND NOTHING CAN BE DONE EXCEPT TO "BLOW OUT" THE MOISTURE. THIS CONDITION OCCURS EVERYTIME LIGHTS ARE TURNED ON. DEALER CALLS THIS THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT. ILLUMINATION OF ROADWAY AT NIGHT IS EFFECTED. PROBLEM REPORTED TO GM HOWEVER, COMPLAINT NUMBER 1-188065149, THEY DID NOT INDICATE THAT THIS WOULD BE LOOKED OR ADDRESSED. *JB
HIGH BEAM LIGHTS ARE DISABLED AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES OF USE. *TR
Cars acceleration causes me to be unable to pick up speed it decelerates up hills small or latg ramps cats constantly fly pass to avoid a multi car pile up it’s very dangerous!
DT: CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED EVEN THOUGH THE FOOT WAS OFF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THIS HAPPENED 5 TIMES IN THE PAST YEARS. THE ACCELERATOR ONLY DID THIS WHEN THE CAR WAS RUNNING FOR OVER 30 MINUTES. PREVIOUSLY, THE ENGINE COULD RUN FOR OVER 2 HOURS BEFORE THIS WOULD HAPPEN. THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP 3 TIMES, AND THE DEALER HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. BUT THIS DID NOT LEAD TO ANY INFORMATION. THEY CRUISE CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED AFTER TESTING WAS DONE. THE DEALER SUGGESTED THAT CONSUMER BRING THE CAR I WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED. CONSUMER CONTACTED GM. THEY WOULD DOCUMENT THE CLAIM AND THE VEHICLE 'S HISTORY AND THAT WAS ALL THEY COULD DO. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO 2 DEALERSHIPS, AND NEITHER COULD FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM.*AK
VEHICLE STALLED INTERMITTENTLY AT ANY SPEED. VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO DEALER ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS, AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.*AK THE VEHICLE HAS STALL A TOTAL OF EIGHT TIMES. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON FOUR OCCASIONS BUT NO CODES WERE FOUND DURING TESTING. *NM
CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO START THE VEHICLE. SHE TRIED NUMEROUS TIMES AND WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND MECHANIC REPLACED THE STARTER. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED, AND THE STARTER WAS REPLACED AGAIN. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, VEHICLE STALLED . DRIVER WAS ABLE TO RESTART VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED, AND VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION, BUT MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
GAUGE CLUSTER. TEMP. GAUGE READS FROM O TO 260 DEGREES WEATHER THE ENGINE IS RUNNING OR NOT. SPEEDOMETER AND FUEL GAUGE ARE ERRATIC. *TR
CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE MANUFACTURER REDUCED THE SIZE OF THE PARKING BRAKE, WHICH DECREASED THE HOLDING POWER/ EFFECTIVENESS OF THE BRAKE. *TS WHILE THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON A SLIGHT INCLINE, WITH THE PARKING BRAKE SET, THE BRAKE WOULD NOT KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE FIRST TIME THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE PARKING BRAKE WAS ADJUSTED. THE SECOND TIME THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NORMAL FOR THE BRAKE NOT TO HOLD/RESTRAIN THE VEHICLE WHEN PARKED ON AN INCLINE. *NM
2004 CHEVY IMPALA WITH STEERING FAILURE. CUSTOMER STATES THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP, SO SHE HAD TO HIT A CURB, WHEN THE CAR WAS RESTARTED SHE DROVE ABOUT ANOTHER MILE AND THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN. *KB THE PROBLEM WAS DETERMINED TO BE A SPEED SENSOR FOR THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE ENGINE WOULD MISFIRE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. *JB
DRIVER SAYS "EVERY TIME THEY GET IN AND OUT OF THE CAR THEY GET SHOCKED." OWNER HAS TRIED SCOTCH GUARD AND FABRIC SOFTENER AND NOTHING HELPS. OWNER LATER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE SHOWS NO SIGN OF DEFECTS AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *NM
