I HAVE A CHEVY 2004 IMPALA IN WE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS SINCE WE GOT IT LAST YEAR ONE DAY THE CAR STARTED SHAKING IN IT CUT OFF WE GOT IT FIXED A COUPLE MONTHS LATER IT'S BACK DOING THE SAME THING IT DID AT I'M SICK IN TIRED OF SPENDING MY MONEY ON GETTING ALL THIS SELF FIX IN FOR IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN I LOOK ON INTERNET IN KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND I'M PRETTY SURE YOU SEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS SO I THINK IT'S TIME FOR A RECALL 2000-2011 THESE CARS ARE MESSING UP BIG TIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY FAILED. THE CONTACT HAD TO UTILIZE THE HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS IN ORDER TO ILLUMINATE THE ROADWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE BRIGHT AND DIM SWITCH WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000. UPDATED 5/24/11 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUAL SWITCH DID NOT WORK. THE CONSUMER STATED HE HAD TO USE THE HIGHBEAM LIGHTS. UPDATED 096/03/11
EVENT: USE THE BRAKES. FAILURE: FRONT END SHAKES. REPAIR: REPLACE ROTORS. EVENT: DRIVE AT ANY SPEED. FAILURE: SPEEDOMETER GONE HAYWIRE, SAYS YOUR GOING 20 WHEN YOU ARE GOING 70? REPAIR: REBUILT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. EVENT: ANY TIME ENGINE RUNNING. FAILURE: TEMP GAUGE HAYWIRE. YOU PULL OVER THINKING YOUR CAR IS OVERHEATING; IT'S NOT. REPAIR: REBUILT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. EVENT: ANY TIME ENGINE RUNNING. FAILURE: FUEL GAUGE HAYWIRE. DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH FUEL YOU HAVE, COULD RUN OUT OF GAS (DID NOT HAPPEN TO ME). REPAIR: REBUILT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. EVENT: USING BLINKERS. FAILURE: BLINKERS EITHER DON'T WORK WHEN ACTIVATED, OR FLASH RANDOMLY. REPAIR: REPLACE BLINKER/HAZARD MODULE. EVENT: TURNING IGNITION KEY FAILURE: NO CRANK, NO START - SECURITY LIGHT ON. WAIT A WHILE, CAR STARTS LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. REPAIR: BYPASSED AND DISABLED SECURITY 'PASSLOCK' SWITCH. EVENT: USING WIPERS/RAIN. FAILURE: WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOP IN MIDDLE OF WINDSHIELD, CONTINUE AFTER TURNING OFF, OR DON'T COME ON WHEN SWITCH TURNED ON. REPAIR: REPLACE WIPER MOTOR & PULSE BOARD. EVENT: STOP AT INTERSECTION WITH ENGINE RUNNING FAILURE: ENGINE SURGING AND STALLING. YOU MUST KEEP YOUR FOOT PLANTED ON THE BRAKE SO THAT YOU DON'T RUN INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU. IT STALLED OUT OF STATE IN AN INTERSECTION. REPAIR: REPLACE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR (MAF). THIS MOST RECENT MAF PROBLEM WAS THE LAST STRAW. THIS CAR HAS OTHER NON-SAFETY RELATED ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, AS WELL AS THE NORMAL WEAR ITEMS THAT YOU WOULD REPLACE ON A 'REAL CAR'. THIS CAR IS A ROLLING ELECTRICAL DISASTER. THIS CAR IS A MONEY PIT, JUST LIKE ITS MANUFACTURER. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT CHEVY VOLT. *TR
2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. CONSUMER STATES THE BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE HAVE HAD MODERATE PULSATING FOR APPROXIMATELY 25, 000 MILES *TGW THE CONSUMER SUSPECTED THAT THE FRONT ROTORS WERE WARPED. WHEN HE DISSEMBLED THE FRONT BRAKES, HE DISCOVERED THAT THE INNER BRAKE PAD FRICTION MATERIAL HAD COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE STEEL BACKING PLATE (BOTH THE LEFT AND THE RIGHT). THE CONSUMER BELIEVED IT WAS A SAFETY DEFECT. THE FRICTION MATERIAL WAS FLOATING LOOSE INSIDE OF THE CALIPER FRAMES CAUSING THE EDGES OF THE FRICTION MATERIAL TO BECOME JAGGED AS A RESULT OF CONTACTING THE CALIPERS. THE INSIDE PORTION OF THE ROTOR HAD UNUSUAL WEAR DUE TO THIS ISSUE AND THE VEHICLE HAD REDUCED BRAKING CAPABILITY. THE CONSUMER STATED HE REPLACED ALL OF THE PADS AND THE ROTORS AT HIS EXPENSE. *JB
THE NEEDLE ON THE SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK. I DO NOT KNOW HOW FAST THAT I AM GOING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AND WAS CRASHED INTO BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED WHIPLASH INJURIES AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WOULD FAIL TO START AND THERE WERE OTHER ELECTRICAL FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED IN REGARDS TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE HEADLIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED AND AS THE LOW BEAMS WERE SWITCHED TO HIGH BEAMS, THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTS FAILED. AS THE LOW BEAMS WERE ENGAGED, THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTS CAME BACK ON THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING WAS SWITCHED FROM LOW BEAMS TO HIGH BEAMS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000. WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH, I NOTICED THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE DROPPING SLOWLY WHICH IT CONTINUED TO DO UNTIL IT RESTED AT ZERO. I CONTINUED DRIVING AT THE SPEED OF TRAFFIC (65 MPH) AND ALL THE WHILE THE SPEEDOMETER CONTINUED TO REGISTER "0." I PANICKED AND IF I HAD NOT BEEN USING A GPS NAVIGATOR THAT TOLD ME WHAT RATE OF SPEED I WAS TRAVELLING AT, GOD KNOWS WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. I HAVE BEEN ON SEVERAL BLOGS AND SEE THAT THIS PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON IN THE 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. CHEVROLET SHOULD INSTITUTE A RECALL AS THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, AND IS ALSO COSTLY TO REPAIR. IT SEEMS TO AFFLICT ALL THE MODELS AT AROUND 40,000 MILES. AFTER I STOPPED TO GET GASOLINE, AND FILLED UP THE TANK, THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO CORRECT ITSELF, BUT ACCORDING TO THE BLOGS WITH OTHER OWNER COMMENTS, I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE THAT THIS WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN WITHOUT NOTICE. PLEASE SEE THAT CHEVROLET RECALLS THIS MODEL AND MAKES THE REPAIR AT NO CHARGE. THANK YOU.
2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO PROBLEM WITH GAUGE *TGW
SEVERAL TIMES, I HAVE HAD MY 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA JUST RANDOMLY NOT START. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM, I HAVE FOUND THAT IT'S THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE. I'M NO MECHANIC BUT KNOW HOW TO RESEARCH AND THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WITH THESE SAME ISSUES IS OVERWHELMING! IT APPEARS THAT THERE ARE SOME NICKEL PINS THAT WERE USED IN THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT ARE VERY PICKY TO OXIDATION LEVELS TO THE POINT OF BEING FAULTY - THE SMALLEST WEAR AND TEAR OR CORROSION OF THESE PINS CAN START THIS PROBLEM. IT HAPPENS WITH NO WARNING AS WELL! THIS MAY NOT SEEM LIKE A SAFETY ISSUE, BUT PUT YOURSELF IN MY SHOES. I LIVE IN NORTH DAKOTA, AND WHEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS IN -40 DEGREE WEATHER IT BECOMES A SAFETY ISSUE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM THAT APPEARS TO SPAN MANY YEARS AND MODELS OF GM VEHICLES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION AND A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT FUMES EMITTED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE FROM THE FUEL TANK. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07E021000 (FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER: STORAGE: TANK ASSEMBLY: PRESSURE RELIEF DEVICES) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA XF. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 70 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED AND WOULD NOT INDICATE AT WHAT SPEED THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 101,792.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. THE ENGINE FAILED TO RESTART AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THAT THE PASS LOCK SYSTEM WAS DESIGNED WITH TWO INCORRECT PINS WHICH RESULTED TO THE FAILURE. THE PASS LOCK SYSTEM WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE WAS APPROXIMATELY 123,000.
THE GAUGES ON MY 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA SS ARE ACTING ERRATICALLY. THE RPM AT IDLE SITS AT ABOUT 3 AND WHEN I'M IN DRIVE IF RANGES FROM 4 TO 5 WITH VERY LITTLE ACCELERATION. THE SPEEDOMETER HAS STARTED DOING THE SAME THING WHEN TRAVELING AT ABOUT 35 TO 40 MPH THE SPEEDOMETER REGISTERS 140 MPH. WHEN TURNING THE CAR OFF THE GAUGE INDICATORS DON'T GO BACK TO THEIR DESIGNATED STARTING POSITIONS. *TR
2004 CHEVY IMPALA SPEEDOMETER GIVES ERRATIC READINGS. NOTE COMPLAINTS ONLINE ARE VERY HIGH WITH SAME PROBLEM . VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR SAFETY REASONS. *TR
2004 IMPALA W/ 3.8L ENGINE STALLS WHEN DECELERATING, LEAVING THE CAR VERY DIFFICULT AND UN-SAFE TO DRIVE. CURRENTLY, THE ENGINE STARTS RIGHT BACK UP, BUT IT TAKES MY EYES OFF THE ROAD TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND RE-START. I HAVE TRIED A FEW INEXPENSIVE THINGS SUCH AS PREMIUM GAS, FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER, AND A NEW FUEL FILTER...NO AFFECT ON THE PROBLEM. THERE IS NO "ENGINE LIGHT" WHICH APPEARS. I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR SINCE NEW AND TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF IT. I DO NOT WANT TO TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP IF AT ALL POSSIBLE BECAUSE I DO NOT TRUST THEM. UNFORTUNATELY, I MAY BE FORCED TO SINCE THIS IS MY ONLY CAR AND I CANNOT AFFORD A CAR PAYMENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN STARTING HER VEHICLE SHE NOTICED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD DEPRESS ON ITS OWN AND THE RPMS WOULD INCREASE EXCESSIVELY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY SEVEN INDEPENDENT MECHANICS WHO ADVISED HER THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED HER THAT SHE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, SPEEDOMETER BEGAN READING ERRONEOUSLY OVER 100MPH BEFORE OSCILLATING BETWEEN 0 AND 100. IT SETTLED AT 0 FOR SEVERAL HOURS BUT THEN RETURNED TO 100 WITH VEHICLE SPEED APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH BASED ON OTHER TRAFFIC. VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON WITH NO CHANGE IN SYMPTOMS. PROBLEMS PERSIST. *TR
SPEEDOMETER ON 2004 ACTING ERRATIC OR NON-FUNCTIONING AT TIMES. MALFUNCTION OCCURRED WITH 86,281 MILES. *TR
SPEEDOMETER FREQUENTLY INDICATES THE WRONG SPEED. THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE GOT STUCK AT ZERO MPH WHEN OUTSIDE TEMPERATE WAS ABOUT 20 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. EVER SINCE THAT TIME (FOR 3 MONTHS NOW) THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE WILL FREQUENTLY STICK OR JITTER AS VEHICLE SPEED CHANGES. WHEN SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE IS STUCK IT FAILS TO RESET ALL THE WAY TO ZERO WHEN CAR IS STARTED. IT ONLY MOVES COUNTER-CLOCKWISE A LITTLE BIT WHEN STARTING THE CAR; IT DOES NOT MOVE BACK TO ITS RESET POSITION. THE RESET PROBLEM COULD BE COMPOUNDED BY A PROGRAMMING PROBLEM WITH THE SIGNALS SENT TO THE STEPPER MOTOR. THE FUEL GAUGE NEEDLE CAN BE HEARD AND SEEN DURING STARTING OF THE CAR TO SWING THE FULL RANGE OF THE FUEL DIAL TO RESET ITSELF. THE SPEEDOMETER ONLY MOVES A LITTLE BIT COUNTER-CLOCKWISE DURING STARTUP; NOT NEARLY ENOUGH TO RESET TO ZERO WHEN IT GETS STUCK. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER ( COMPONENT 1 ) HAS FAILED IN THE VEHICLE. IT BEGAN BY OPERATING ERRATICALLY ON THE DATE ENTERED ABOVE AND HAS PROGRESSED TO NOT WORKING AT ALL MOST OF THE TIME OR DISPLAYING THE WRONG SPEEDS I.E. 70 MPH WHILE SITTING STILL. THE TACHOMETER ( COMPONENT 2 ) IS ALSO SHOWING THE SAME SIGNS TO COMPLETE FAILURE BY DISPLAYING UNREALISTIC ENGINE SPEEDS WHILE AT IDLE. I CONTACTED A DEALER WHO RAN THE VIN AND FOUND NO RECALLS. I HOWEVER HAVE RESEARCHED THIS MATTER ON THE INTERNET AND HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME NATURE THAT APPEARS TO POINT TO THE STEPPER MOTORS USED IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS BY GM TO BE THE PROBLEM. IT ALSO APPEARS THAT GM HAS RECALLED SEVERAL MODELS OF THE SAME ERA DUE TO THIS PROBLEM BUT NOT THE IMPALA LINE. I FAIL TO UNDERSTAND HOW THE SAME PROBLEM IS RECALLED FOR SOME BUT NOT ALL AFFECTED MODELS.
VEHICLE SPEEDOMETER IS FLOATING. SOMETIMES I AM DOING ZERO MPH. THEN SOMETIMES I AM DOING 120MPH. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT IT. I NEVER KNOW HOW FAST I AM TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD. *TR
SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER FAILED ON MY 04 IMPALA AT ABOUT 52,000 MILES. *TR
MY 2004 IMPALA IS HAVING PASSLOCK SECURITY PROBLEMS, THE SECURITY LIGHT COMES ON AND WON'T LET ME START THE CAR. LIGHT BLINKS THEN GOES OFF AND CAR STARTS. HAVE HAD CAR TOWED TWICE AND DEALER TELLS ME IT IS A PCM OR BCM PROBLEM DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX. ALSO WAS TOLD IT HAPPENS TO ALOT OF IMPALA'S. *TR
ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GAGE NOT WORKING. I CANT TELL HOW FAST IM GOING OR IF I HAVE GAS IN THE CAR. I WOULDN'T EVEN KNOW IF MY CAR IS OVER HEATING. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM ON 2003-2005 CHEVY IMPALA'S. I HAVE SEEN THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINS ON THE INTERNET AND ITS NOT FAIR THAT ALL THESE PEOPLE HAVE TO TAKE UP THIS EXPENSE. ESPECIALLY WHEN ITS NOT CHEAP. I WOULD UNDERSTAND IF IT WAS RARE..BUT IT SEEMS LIKE MOST IMPALA'S HAVE THIS PROBLEM. *TR
HEADLIGHTS GO OFF WHILE DRIVING, THEN COME BACK ON AUTOMATICALLY. SOMETIMES WHEN THEY GO OFF THEY ARE OFF FOR UP TO 5 MINUTES. VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AT NIGHT AS YOU DO NOT KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN. *TR
ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL STOPPED WORKING ON MY 2004 CHEVY IMPALA : SPEEDOMETER, GAS GAUGE, AND TEMPERATURE GAUGE. CALLED CHEVY ABOUT RECALLS BECAUSE 5 OTHER FRIENDS HAVING SAME PROBLEMS. WAS TOLD NO RECALLS. FRONT HEADLIGHTS AND REAR DEFROST STOPPED WORKING JUST YESTERDAY. COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING. HAD TO PARK THE CAR. VERY, VERY DANGEROUS. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT. *TR
MY OIL PRESSURE GAUGE STOPPED WORKING, AND A FEW DAYS LATER THE GAS GAUGE WENT, THEN THE ANTI-FREEZE TEMPERATURE WENT. I CALLED CHEVY, THEY ADMITTED THAT THIS HAPPENS A LOT, BUT THERE IS NO RECALL. COST 500.00
2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA, 3.4L, 134,000 MILES, FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR LEAK AT COLD (BELOW FREEZING) START UP. LEAK WAS BETWEEN THE UPPER AND LOWER STAMPED HOUSING OF THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR CANISTER. LEAK WAS NOT AT THE REGULATOR TO FUEL RAIL SEAL, OR BETWEEN THE REGULATOR TO RETURN LINE SEAL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED AND HE WAS UNABLE TO SEE THE ACTUAL SPEED HE WAS TRAVELING. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 31,600. UPDATED 01/31/11 *BF THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. UPDATED 02/03/11*JB
SPEEDOMETER STOPS TRACKING SPEED. IT WILL STOP AT A RANDOM SPEED AND NOT RETURN TO ZERO UPON STOPPING THE CAR. WHEN I START DRIVING AGAIN IT WILL START TRACKING THE SPEED FROM THE INCORRECT POINT THAT IT STOPPED AT PREVIOUSLY AND THEN REPEAT THE FAULT STOPPING AT A TOTALLY DIFFERENT MPH POINT. ALSO IT WILL JUST FREEZE AT RANDOM SPEEDS. AT TIMES IT WILL GO ALL THE WAY TO THE HIGHEST POINT ON THE SPEEDOMETER AND FREEZE. I WOULD THINK THIS IS A VERY HIGH PRIORITY ON THE LIST OF SAFETY ITEMS. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL.
I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY IMPALA,FUEL GAUGE DOESN'T WORK HALF OF THE TIME, ALSO NOW THE SPEEDOMETER WORKS SOMETIMES, ITS A SAFETY ISSUE, I GOT THE CAR FOR MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. TOO MANY COMPLAINTS FROM OTHERS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEMS, G.M. NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL AND MAKE THIS RIGHT. *TR
THE ABS LIGHT ON MY MOTHER'S 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA (ONLY 32,000 MILES) ABS LIGHT RECENTLY STARTED COMING ON. SHE TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL GM DEALERSHIP. THEY REFERENCED A GM SERVICE BULLETIN THAT REQUIRES REPLACEMENT OF HARNESSES AND SENSORS. $367 DEALER WOULD NOT COVER WARRANTY BECAUSE OF VEHICLE AGE DESPITE OUR COMPLAINT. WE ELEVATED THE ISSUE UP TO GM DISTRICT SERVICE (CASE# 71-898488738). AFTER SEVERAL CALLS GM HAS OFFERED 50% BACK. REGARDLESS, IT IS UNACCEPTABLE TO NOT POLICY SAFETY SYSTEM BEYOND STANDARD WARRANTY COVERAGE. QUESTIONABLE IF THIS SHOULD BE RECALL. WE FOUND FOUR OTHER COMPLAINTS AND ONE INVESTIGATION IN NHTSA DATA BASE OF SAME ISSUE. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA THAT HAS A HUGE AMOUNT OF ISSUES WITHIN THE DASH. MY CAR SHOWS THAT IT IS RUNNING HOT WHEN IT IS NOT. IT ALSO SHOWS IT HAS NO GAS WHEN THE TANK IS FULL. THE NEWEST ISSUE IS THAT MY SPEEDOMETER IS NOW STUCK ON 80 WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED AND IS WELL OVER THE 120MPH WHEN I AM DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW FAST I AM GOING. THIS IS THE WORSE OF THE THREE BECAUSE I OR SOMEONE COULD BE INJURED BY THIS. TO HAVE PEOPLE ON THE ROAD WITH UNSAFE VEHICLES AND THE MANUFACTURE NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IS RIDICULOUS TO SAY THE LEAST. 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA - SPEEDOMETER GONE HAYWIRE 1. FIRST, THE TURN SIGNAL BLINKER FAILED. BLINKER DID NOT WORK, BUT TURN SIGNAL STAYED LIT AND INDICATED I AS TURNING. 2. NEXT, THE HEAT TURNED TO AIR CONDITIONER MODE. I HAD TO SWITCH OFF THE AC BACK TO HEAT. 3. LAST, ON A 45 MPH ROAD I WAS TRAVELING AT 45 MPH AND SUDDENLY MY SPEEDOMETER SHOT UP TO 75, DESPITE MY SPEED BEING MAINTAINED AT 45 (PER THE GPS UNIT). I HAD TO GET ONTO THE FREEWAY WHERE IT IS 60 MPH. USED MY GPS IN ORDER TO GO THE CORRECT SPEED LIMIT. AT A STOP LIGHT AND WHEN PARKED, THE SPEEDOMETER NOW REGISTERS 75 MPH. THE LIGHT SWITCH, PART NUMBER 10283776, ON MY CAR DEVELOPED AN ELECTRICAL SHORT CIRCUIT AND BURNED OUT THE PUSH-ON ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR FOR THE POWER SUPPLY WIRE TO THE LIGHTS IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. ENOUGH HEAT WAS GENERATED TO DAMAGE THE PLASTIC CONNECTOR, PART NUMBER 12129431. THE FUSE DID NOT BLOW. I REPLACED THE LIGHT SWITCH AND CONNECTOR. *TR

SHE TRIED TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY PUMPING THE BRAKES A COUPLE OF TIMES UNTIL IT FINALLY STARTED TO DECELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED NOR HAD IT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 54,000.
IN MY 2004 CHEVROLET IMPALA NIGHT DRIVING IS UNSAFE. I WILL BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN ITS DARK AND I WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO TURN ON MY BRIGHT HEADLIGHTS FOR A BETTER VISION OF THE ROAD. AFTER TURNING THEM ON I CAN DRIVE ABOUT 5 OR SO MILES AND THE HEADLIGHTS WILL SHUT OFF. THE ONLY WAY TO REGAIN THE HEADLIGHTS IS BY TURNING OFF THE BRIGHTS. YOU LOOSE ALL LIGHTS, NOT JUST THE BRIGHTS. THE ONLY LIGHTS ON ARE THE PARKING LIGHTS. VERY UNSAFE AND YOU CANNOT SEE THE ROAD. ALSO EVERYONES IN AWHILE THE LIGHTS WILL BLINK. IT HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE EVERY TIME IF I GO ON AT LEAST A 20 MINUTE DRIVE AND ARE TURNING BRIGHTS ON AND OFF. NO BUTTONS ARE INVOLVED WHEN THE LIGHTS GO OUT. THEY JUST AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF BY THEMSELVES. VERY SCARY AND VERY UNSAFE IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO GET THEM WORKING AGAIN. HAVE HEARD THAT IT MAY BE THE BRIGHTS SWITCH BUT THOSE ARE WAY OVERPRICED. *TR
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILED. TACHOMETER, SPEEDOMETER AND TEMPERATURE GAGE GIVE FALSE READINGS. SPEEDOMETER STICKS AND INDICATES 65 MPH WHEN VEHICLE IS STOPPED. TACHOMETER RANDOMLY INDICATES RPMS VARYING FROM 0 TO MORE THAN 8000. TEMPERATURE GAGE INDICATES RANDOMLY BETWEEN MINIMUM OF 140 AND MAXIMUM OF 260 DEGREES.

THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT GO TO "0" WHEN YOU STOP. YOU START OUT AT 20 OR 30 MILES AN HOUR AND THE SPEEDOMETER SHOW AN INACCURATE READING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. YOU MUST RELY ON YOUR GPS DEVICE TO SHOW YOUR PROPER SPEED. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AS THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS. *TR
THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAGES WILL NOT FUNCTION, ALL INDICATORS ARE FACING DOWNWARD AND DO NOT MOVE. THIS HAPPENS WHEN MOVING OR STANDING STILL.
