FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE I CHECK MANY TIMES THE MECHANIC ALWAYS SAID THERE IS A LEAK FUEL SYSTEM AND THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER THREE TIMES FOR THE SAME DEFECT. THE FUEL CAP WAS REPLACED AND THE COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM WAS REPROGRAMMED ON THE FIRST VISIT. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NO FAILURE THE SECOND TIME THE FAILURE RECURRED AND ON THE THIRD RECURRENCE OF THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE EPA CANISTER WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
THE FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT REFLECT THE AMOUNT OF GAS IN THE TANK. IT SAYS FULL TANK WHEN IT IS BUT I RAN OUT OF GAS ON THE INTERSTATE WITH IT READING HALF TANK. DANGEROUS!!! WHEN IT RUNS OUT OF GAS THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING, OH EXCEPT YOU STALL AND HAVE ZERO POWER STEERING. FROM 70 TO 0 IN 2.5SEC. CALLED DEALER AND INQUIRED ABOUT ANY ISSUES WITH GAS GAUGES BECOMING FAULTY AND WAS TOLD BY SERVICE PERSON THAT IT COULD GO BAD BUT HE KNOWS NO KNOWN ISSUES WITH FAULTY GAS GAUGES FOR CHEVY. LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND PAGES AND PAGES OF DOCUMENTED FUEL/GAS GAUGE MALFUNCTIONS STRANDING DRIVERS. IF THEY THINK IGNORANCE IS BLISS THEN I HAVE MANY OTHER BRANDS OF VEHICLES TO CHOOSE FROM. *TR
THE GAS GAUGE NEEDLE AND DIGITAL READOUT ARE OFF. GOING 55 MPH AND THE CAR JUST DIED IN TRAFFIC. GAUGE READ 1/4 MILE AND DIGITAL READOUT SHOWED 70 MILES LEFT. TOPPED OFF GAS IN TANK TO TRY AND MONITOR AND RAN OUT OF FUEL AGAIN GOING BY NEEDLE AND DIGITAL READOUT. 74 MILES LEFT, JUST SHY OF 1/4 TANK ON NEEDLE. NOW USING TRIP MILE FEATURE TO NOT BE FOOLED BY GAUGE AND NEEDLE. "HALF TANK" RULE IS NOW BEING USED. *TR
I WAS SENT A RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE. I THINK IT IS TERRIBLE THAT YOU HAVE NOT FOUND A WAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM SINCE IT HAS BEEN KNOWN ABOUT SINCE 2003 AND YOU KEPT ON MANUFACTURING THIS PRODUCT. PUBLIC SAFETY IS OF NO CONCERN TO YOU UNTIL SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED AND YOU ARE FORCED TO RESPOND AND EVEN THEN YOU DO NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. ALL PEOPLE WHO OWN THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE REIMBURSED AS NOW THERE IS NO WAY NOW TO SELL THE VEHICLE PRIVATELY OR AS A TRADE BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT. FIRST, WHEN I SLOW DOWN TO TURN A CORNER, I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS. AFTER THE TURN, WHEN I PRESS THE GAS I HAVE NO POWER. IT DOESN'T DIE, IT JUST WON'T GO ANYWHERE FOR ABOUT 15-20 SECONDS, NO POWER. THAT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE A LONG TIME UNLESS YOU ARE SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION. I HAVE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP FOR ABOUT 20-30 SECONDS, THEN TAKE OFF. SOMETIMES IT GOES, BUT FEELS LIKE IT JERKS INTO GEAR. THAT'S OK AT STOP SIGNS BUT STOP LIGHTS THAT TURN GREEN AS I APPROACH CAN BE DANGEROUS. ALSO, IF I TURN A CORNER ONTO ANOTHER STREET, IT HESITATES. AND SOMETIMES I HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND. PEOPLE EXPECT YOU TO TURN AND PROCEED. WHEN YOU JUST STOP, THEY MAY NOT. I ALSO NOTICED ONE DAY, WHEN I JUST COAST ON A LEVEL ROAD, MY CAR SOMETIMES ACCELERATES FOR QUITE A WHILE, INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN IMMEDIATELY. I ONCE TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AT 45 MPH AND COASTED ON FLAT ROAD FOR 2.5 MILES. THE LATEST RELATED PROBLEM IS.. SPRING 2013, TWICE, I TURNED A CORNER AND IT JUST DIED. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, IT CRANKED BACK UP. THANKFULLY, I WAS ON A CITY STREET AND NOT A FOUR LANE ROAD. I ALSO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH PARKING. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKES AND PULL INTO PARKING SPOT. WHEN I PUT IT IN PARK, IT LUNGES FORWARD. OR IF I STOP IN TRAFFIC, SOMETIMES IT LUNGES AFTER IT STOPS. I HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT I LEAVE PLENTY OF ROOM IN FRONT FOR THIS PROBLEM. I THINK IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE COMPUTER ALLOWING THE GAS TO FLOW OR STOP. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE WAS DISPLAYING THE INCORRECT AMOUNT OF FUEL THAT WAS IN THE FUEL TANK. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING HIS VEHICLE LOST POWER SINCE THE FUEL TANK WAS EMPTY AND THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATED THAT HE COULD TRAVEL 50 MILES BEFORE THE FUEL TANK WOULD BE EMPTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO HAVE THE GASOLINE TANK ADJUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING GAS FROM THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHO WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE THE ORIGIN OF THE FUEL LEAK. IN ADDITION, THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY INJECTOR WAS DEFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 06V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86, 000.
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WITH 704 MILES ON IT IN FEBRUARY 2008. IN MAY OF 2008, THE TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON AND THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ABS WERE "DISABLED". I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED IT, AND THEY TOLD ME I HAD WATER IN THE FUEL. AS I WAS LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP, THE TRANSMISSION STOPPED SHIFTING, AND THE CAR WENT INTO "LIMP" MODE. I LEFT THE CAR TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE REPLACED. I RECEIVED THE CAR BACK 5 DAYS LATER AND THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, AND THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL WHERE DISABLED. I TOOK THE CAR TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP IN THE HOPES THAT THEY COULD FIND THE TROUBLE. AFTER 14 DAYS IN SERVICE, THEY DETERMINED THAT RUST HAS CLOGGED THE FUEL SYSTEM OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 9,800 MILES ON IT. THE CAR IS NOW "UNDRIVEABLE". THEY HAVE YET TO ADDRESS THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUE THAT WAS THE CATALYST FOR THE SERVICE VISIT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING UP A SLIGHT INCLINE OR WHEN MAKING A TURN, THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF. THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURS WHEN THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATES THAT THERE IS 70-80 MILES LEFT IN THE TANK. THE CONTACT MUST TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE TO ALLOW THE FAILURE TO CORRECT ITSELF. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS THE RESULT OF HOW THE FUEL SYSTEM TANK WAS DESIGNED. DUE TO ITS FLAT BOTTOM, AIR ENTERS THE SYSTEM AND CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO STALL AND SHUT OFF. THE DEALER STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THEY FURTHER ADVISED HER TO KEEP THE FUEL TANK OVER A QUARTER FULL FOR THE FAILURE NOT TO OCCUR. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10,860 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,800.
CONSISTENT SMELL OF GASOLING VAPOR FROM WHEN THE CAR WA FIRST PURCHASED. CAR PARKED IN A MULTUI CAR GARAGE, NEIGHBOR CALLED FIRE MARSHALL, DUE TO SEVERE GASOLINE SMELL. I TOOK THE CAR INTO WEST CHEVROLET, MAIN ST WOODBURY CT. LEFT CAR OVERNIGHT. SERVICE MANAGER CALLED TO TELL THE ME THE GAS TANK WAS IMPROPERLY MOLDED DURING CAR MANUFACTURER, AND THE TANK WAS LEAKING FUMES AND POSSIBLY GASOLINE THE WHOLE TIME I WAS DRIVING THE CAR DURING THE THREE MONTHS I WAS DRIVING THE CAR. THE GAS TANK WAS REPLACED. I RECIEVED NO COMPENSATION FOR THE POTENTIAL DANGER OF A LEAKING GAS TANK. *TR
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON REDUCED POWER LIGHT CAME ON, FEW SECONDS LATER ENGINE STALLED. PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD, CALLED ON STAR SVC ADVISOR PERFORMED ONBOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST, RESULTS INDICATED FAILURE IN THROTTLE SYSTEM/TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM. ADVISOR ATTEMPTED FIELD REPAIR CYCLING IGNITION SWITCH 3 TIMES AND I ATTEMPTED TO START ENGINE. IT WOULD NOT START. BURNING SMELL COMING FROM VEHICLE, OPENED HOOD- AIR BOX SMOKING. INFORMED ON STAR I AM DISCONNECTING BATTERY. ON STAR ADVISOR CALL ON MY CELL PHONE, AND TOLD ME TOW TRUCK WAS COMING. WHILE AWAITING TOW TRUCK SMOKE BECAME MORE INTENSE FROM AIR FILTER. OPENED THE AIR BOX AND FOUND MASS AIR FLOW CENTER BURNING. REMOVED AIR FILTER AND DISCOUNTED DUCT WORK TO PREVENT FIRE FROM SPREADING. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP. SERVICE DEPT. WAS CLOSED AND SALESMAN OPEN SHOP TO ALLOW CAR TO BE STORED INSIDE. EXCHANGED PHONE NUMBERS. RECEIVED CALL 4/2/07 AND WAS ADVISED FOREIGN OBJECT (POSSIBLY A CIGARETTE) WAS INGESTED INTO FILTER WHICH CAUSED FIRE. AT THE SUGGESTION OF THE SERVICE MANAGER I CONTACTED MY INSURANCE AGENT SINCE I WAS TOLD THIS WAS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE. AFTER INSPECTION BY MY INSURANCE CO. WHO CONSULTED WITH A FIRE INVESTIGATION/ADJUSTER, IN HIS EXPERT OPINION, THE FIRE BEGAN AT THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR AND WORKED IT'S WAY OUT. THE INVESTIGATOR FEELS IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR A CIGARETTE TO BE THROWN FROM A MOVING VEHICLE, REMAIN LIT, AND WORKS IT'S WAY UP A 2.5" OPENING INSIDE A FENDER OF A MOVING CAR. PHOTOS AND DOCUMENTATION ARE AVAILABLE INCIDENT A FULL REPORT FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY. AFTER NUMEROUS CALLS TO GM, THEY REFUSED TO COVER ANY REPAIRS OR CONSIDER THIS MAY BE A DEFECT IN THEIR PRODUCT. MY INSURANCE COMPANY REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME AS THEY FEEL THIS WAS A REPAIR INCURRED BY A DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE. *AK
