A CHURCH VAN WAS PULLING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY AND FAILED TO YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY. WE T-BONED THEM GOING 35MPH. WE HIT THEM INCREDIBLY HARD AND YET THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY! FOUR OF THEIR PASSENGERS WERE SENT TO THE HOSPITAL IN THE AMBULANCE AND THE TWO OF US IN THE MALIBU WENT LATER. THE CAR WAS TOTALED AND THE CHURCH VAN HAD SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE AS WELL. *TR

VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN TO THE RIGHT. AFTER HAVING IT LOOKED AT BY A MECHANIC THE ENTIRE STEERING CRADLE IS RUSTED AND HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FRAME. UPON TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT THE POWER STEERING BOX SHIFTS APPROXIMATELY TWO INCHES. CURRENTLY THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE SUB-FRAME IS ALSO RUSTED AND COST FOR REPAIR IS CURRENTLY UNKNOWN. AFTER READING MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ONLINE AND ON THIS SITE THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE VERY COMMON AND GM SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. *TR

I AM ISSUING A COMPLAINT REGARDING YOUR ID NUMBER FOR RECALL 14V400. GM RECALL NUMBER 14350. THIS RECALL DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM OF THE IGNITION SHUTTING OFF DURING DRIVING. IT IS MERELY A BAND AID. I WANT NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION TO RE-OPEN THIS RECALL AND FORCE GM TO ACTUALLY FIX THE PROBLEM WITH A NEW SAFE KEY SLOT OR IGNITION SWITCH, OR WHATEVER WILL ACTUALLY STOP THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. A DAY LATER, WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY EXCESSIVE FORCE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER AND TURN SIGNAL RELAY SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V400000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.

CAR ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS DON'T WORK WHEN CAR IS STARTED THEN BEGIN WORKING SOMETIME AFTER THE CAR IS RUNNING 5-15 MINUTES. GAUGES, RADIO, AC, FAN, DO NOT WORK AND I AM WORRIED THE AIRBAGS ARE ALSO NOT WORKING. I SEE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET (HTTP://REPAIRPAL.COM/NO-START-DUE-TO-FAILED-PASSLOCK-SENSOR-300). I SEE THE RECALL FOR REPLACING KEYS BUT THIS IS THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT IS FAILING.
ONE DAY OUT OF NOWHERE WHILE IN PARK AND IDLING CAR JUST DIED, RESTARTED FINE, THEN A COUPLE DAYS LATER AT A STOPLIGHT DIED AGAIN, WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND DRIVE ON, BUT THIS CONTINUED FROM THEN ON EVERYTIME IT WAS STOPPED AND RUNNING WOULD JUST DIE COULD RESTART WHEN READY TO DRIVE OFF AND IT WOULD GO FINE, UNTIL THE LAST TIME IT DIED WHILE GOING 35 MPH IN TRAFFIC AND I WAS BARELY ABLE TO STEER OUT OF TRAFFIC AND ALMOST COULDN'T STOP, BUT WOULDN'T RESTART ANYMORE, AND STILL WON'T START. TOOK TO A MECHANIC WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE IGNITION CAUSED THE ANTI THEFT TO ENGAGE AND TURN OFF COMPONENTS IN MOTOR, I'VE READ I OTHERS HAVING SAME PROBLEM IN THIS SAME YEAR MAKE AND MODEL JUST WONDERING WHY IT HASN'T BEEN RECALLED ALONG WITH ALL THE REST OF CHEVY' SCARS HAVING THIS PROBLEM, OBVIOUSLY IT'S A BIGGER PROBLEM THAN JUST A COUPLE AND THE LAST TIME IT DIED ON ME I WAS LUCKY TO NOT GET HIT. *TR
SUBMISSION FROM CONSTITUENT RE GM RECALL. *SMD 2001 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONSUMER STATED ON JUNE 21, 2014 HER VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED, THE IGNITION SWITCH AND LOCK CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER EVENTUALLY RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. SHE WENT BACK TO THE DEALER, FOR REIMBURSEMENT. HOWEVER, THE DEALER STATED THAT NEITHER THE NOTICE OR DOCUMENT ID WAS COMPOSED IN THE WAY TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT DUE TO THE TIMING OF THE NOTIFICATION, THAT THERE WOULD BE SOME IGNITION SYSTEMS THAT WOULD BE REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE, AS A CONSEQUENCE DUE TO THE LATENESS OF THE KEY DEFECT REPLACEMENT NOTIFICATION. *JB
ANTI THEFT PASSLOCK SYSTEM, 2001 CHEVY MALIBU. LOCKED ME OUT FOR 3 TIME AND WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO START MY CAR. 6 MONTHS AGO HAD IGNITION SWITCH CHANGED OUT WORKED FINE UNTIL REPEATED TIMES BEING LOCKED, WON'T START NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES IT IS PUT THROUGH RELEARNED CYCLE. 2001 CHEVROLET MALIBU VEHICLE WOULD NOT START, REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH*CW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE FIRST TIME THE INCIDENT HAPPENED, THE SECURITY LIGHT WAS ON AND THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS LOOSE. THE SECOND TIME, THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED. *JB
I WAS TRAVELING AT 60 AND TOOK MY FOOT OFF GAS TO DECELERATE AND CAR WOULDN'T GO LESS THAN 50. ENGINE RPM'S WOULDN'T GO BELOW 2500. I COULD STILL STOP CAR WITH BRAKES BUT THIS APPEARS TO BE A CONSTANT PROBLEM AND NOT INTERMITTENT LIKE THE PERSON REPORTED A FEW DAYS AGO. I CHECKED THE THROTTLE LINKAGE BECAUSE I THOUGHT THE NON FUNCTIONING CRUISE CONTROL COULD BE AFFECTING ENGINE SPEED BUT NEITHER CABLE KEPT THE FLAP FROM BOTTOMING OUT. *TR
OVER THE PAST MONTH, THE MALIBU HAS STALLED OUT WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS OCCURRED BOTH ON ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION ONE TIME ALMOST CAUSING A BROADSIDE IMPACT AS MY SON PULLED OUT TO MAKE A LEFT ONTO A BUST STREET. HE WAS FORTUNATE AND THE ONCOMING DRIVER WAS ABLE TO BRAKE IN TIME. WE TOOK IT TO A GARAGE THAT SAID OUR IGNITION SWITCH HAD TO BE REPLACED, WHICH WE HAD DONE. CURIOUS BECAUSE THIS IS THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT HAS OCCURRED WITH THE OTHER VEHICLES INVOLVED IN THE CHEVY RECALL, BUT OUR VEHICLE HAS YET TO BE RECALLED FOR THIS OBVIOUSLY HAZARDOUS DEFECT. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE KEY WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN IN ORDER TO START THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE AND THE VENTILATION CONTROLS FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V400000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND STATED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
2001 CHEVROLET MALIBU. CONSUMER STATES TWO KEYS ARE BEING USED. ONE FOR THE DOORS AND TRUNK, AND ANOTHER FOR THE IGNITION AFTER IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER AND SENSOR WERE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT. ALSO, THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL FILTER WERE REPLACED. *JB
DRIVING CAR AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, WILL ACCELERATE BY ITSELF WHILE DRIVING RPM >2000 WHEN PUT IN PARK RPM >2500. WHEN BRAKE FOR LIGHT AND TAKE FOOT OFF BRAKE CAR WILL ACCELERATE BY IT SELF I LET IT GO UP TO 45 MPH THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, I TURN ENGINE OFF AND TURN BACK ON IT WILL IDLE NORMALLY 1000 OR LESS. NO PANEL WARNING LIGHTS POP UP. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS POWERED OFF AND BACK ON UNTIL THE ANTI THEFT WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE STARTED AFTER THE ANTI- THEFT WARNING TURN OFF. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE LOCK CYLINDER AND KEY WERE FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000.
