MY CAR OVER HEATED TWICE. THE FIRST TIME I REALIZED THAT THE ANTIFREEZE WAS VERY LOW AND I FILLED IT UP AND WENT TO MY MEETING. AFTER MY MEETING WAS OVER AND BEGAN TO DRIVE THE CAR, IT OVER HEATED AGAIN. I HAD TO REFILL THE ANTIFREEZE 3 TIMES BEFORE I GOT IT TO AN AUTO SHOP (AS I WAS DRIVING). ONCE I GOT TO THE AUTO SHOPE, I WAS TOLD THAT THE ANTIFREEZE WAS RUNNING IN TO THE OIL PAN. CURRENTLY, I DON'T HAVE A CAR BECAUSE I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE ENGINE WAS NO GOOD AND THEY HAD SEEN SEVERAL CARS LIKE MINE (SAME YEAR) WITH THE SAME MOTOR PROBLEM. *TR
CAR WILL NOT START - THEFT SYSTEM LIGHT COMES ON. I HAVE TRIED THE PASSLOCK "FIX" OF TURNING KEY TO ON FOR 10 MINUTES, SHUTTING OFF AND TRYING TO RESTART BUT NO LUCK ON THE CAR STARTING. THE ISSUE HAS GONE ON FOR OVER 3 WEEKS, EACH DAY GETTING WORSE AND WORSE. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO A SHOP AND DIAGNOSTICS CAME UP NEGATIVE AND CAR STARTED. 3 WEEKS LATER, CAR WON'T START AGAIN. HAVE A MECHANIC COME LOOK AT IT, HE SEES NOTHING WRONG WITH IT EXCEPT THAT THE FUEL IGNITION ISN'T WORKING - PROBABLY BECAUSE OF THE PASSLOCK THEFT SYSTEM!! *TR
THEFT SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND WILL NOT LET CAR BE RESTARTED UNTIL I LEAVE KEY IN STARTED SWITCH FOR 10 MINUTES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TURN SIGNALS AND HAZARD LIGHTS WORK INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT CANNOT ACTIVATE THE TURN SIGNALS, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. THE DEALER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03V327000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HAZARD FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS:SWITCH). THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 78,649.
THE CAR WILL START FINE, BUT ONCE YOU TURN IT OFF AND GO TO START AGAIN IT WILL JUST CRANK. THE FIRST TIME I REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. THE SECOND TIME I REPACED SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES. THE THIRD TIME I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO CHANGE AND A FRIEND SAID TO TRY PUTTING THE KEY IN THE ON POSITION FOR 10 MINS. I DID AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP. IT TURNS OUT THE ANT-THEFT SYSTEM KEEPS LOCKING ME OUT ABOUT EVERY MONTH. IT IS A MAJOR PAIN TO HAVE TO BE SOMEWHERE AND NOT KNOW WHEN THE CAR WILL START OR NOT, AND THEN SIT THERE FOR TEN MINS TO RESET IT. *TR
ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM PREVENTS CAR FROM STARTING. FALSELY DETECTS THAT IGNITION KEY IS NOT THE CORRECT KEY FOR THIS AUTOMOBILE, EVEN THOU THIS KEY HAS BEEN USED TO START THE CAR THOUSANDS OF TIMES. TO OVERCOME THE PROBLEM DRIVER MUST TURN OFF IGNITION, TURN KEY TO ON POSITION AND WAIT APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES FOR THE COMPUTER TO REGISTER THE KEY AS BEING CORRECT, TURN THE IGNITION KEY TO OFF AND THEN TURN IT TO START TO GET THE CAR STARTED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO US AT LEAST 100 TIMES DURING THE PAST 6 YEARS. GM SERVICE SAYS THE REMEDY IS TO REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH AT A COST OF $400.00. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN FREQUENTLY REPORTED BY HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF GM 1998 THRU 2006 AUTOMOBILE OWNERS. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN ENGINEERING DEFECT AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED FOR FREE BY GM. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THESE CARS AND TRUCKS. *TR
THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE WITH THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM ON A 2001 CHEVY MALIBU. ON SEVERAL OCCASSIONS, THE CAR SIMPLY REFUSES TO START BECAUSE DUE TO A GLITCH IN THE SYSTEM, MY OWN CAR THINKS I AM TRYING TO STEAL IT. AS THE CAR AGES, THE INCIDENTS GROW MORE AND MORE FREQUENT. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THRE TIMES FROM THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM(AFTER 3 $75 TOWING FEES) THAT THERE IS NO WAY TO DISABLE THIS AND THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT. I WORK EXTREMELY HARD FOR MY MONEY AND FEEL INCREDIBLY DECEIVED BY GM FOR NOT RECALLING THIS ISSUE AS I CAN READ ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT CONSUMER BLOGS THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS ISSUE.
ANTI THEFT PASS KEY CAR WILL NOT START DUE TO THEFT PROTECTION KICKING IN HAVE TO RESET EVERYTIME I WANT TO START THE CAR. *TR
I HAVE A 2001 CHEVY MALIBU WITH THE 3.1L V6 ENGINE THAT HAS 4 DEFECTIVE PISTONS IN IT (GM DOCUMENT ID# 773655) ALSO INSTALLED IN 2001 BUICK, CHEVY, PONTIAC AND SOME OLDS MODELS. I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW WITH 4 MILES ON IT, IT HAD A SLIGHT "TICK" WHEN STARTED COLD AT THAT TIME, WHICH THE DEALER EXPLAINED THAT IT WAS "INJECTOR NOISE", NOT TO BE CONCERNED. THE NOISE GOT JUST A LITTLE WORSE UNTIL IT GOT UP TO 37,000 MILES (JUST OUT OF WARRANTY), THEN IT BECAME VERY NOISY AND DIDN'T GO AWAY WHEN WARMED UP. I HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS NOISE EVERY TIME I HAD THE DEALER CHANGE THE OIL. THEN I FOUND A COMPLAINT ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THESE ENGINES AND THE FIX. THAT IS WHEN HE FINALLY PRODUCED THE BULLETIN EXPLAINING THE PROBLEM, AND INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS TOO LATE, WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET (REQUEST#71-79653429) AND THEY TOLD ME ABOUT THE SAME THING-WARRANTY IS GONE, SORRY YOU DIDN'T KNOW TO GET IT REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. WE ARE 72 YEARS OLD AND BOUGHT THIS CAR TO LAST US THE REST OF OUR LIVES, AND IT JUST MAY NOT MAKE IT. WE DO NOT DRIVE A LOT, 46,500 MILES IN OVER NINE YEARS, BUT THIS THING IS GETTING NOISIER BY THE MONTH. CAN ANYTHING BE DONE TO HELP US OLD FOLKS? *TR
I HAVE A 2001 CHEVY MALIBU. THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM LIGHT KEEP COMING ON CAUSING ME TO WAIT FOR 10 - 15 MINUTES FOR IT TO RESET. CAUSING ME TO GO BACK TO DEALER TO GET MY KEY REPROGRAM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM ON MY 2001 CHEVROLET MALIBU FREQUENTLY ACTIVATES FOR NO APPARENT REASON, CAUSING A TEN MINUTE WAITING PERIOD BEFORE THE CAR WILL START. THIS DEVICE DOES MORE HARM THAN GOOD AND LEAVES ME STRANDED IN UNDESIRABLE AREAS TO IN WHICH TO BE STRANDED. *TR
2001 CHEVROLET MALIBU. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEMS AND REPAIRS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED ON MAY 8, 2008, AT A COST OF $ 343.06. ON MARCH 26, 2009, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. APRIL 14, 2009, THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED AGAIN, AT A COST OF $ 315.86. ON SEPTEMBER 10, 2010, THE IGNITION LOCK AND CYLINDER WERE REPLACED AT A COST OF $ 457.07. THE CONSUMER NO LONGER OWNS THE VEHICLE. *JB
GM PASSLOCK SYSTEM IS FAILING IN THE VEHICLE. PROBLEMS INCURRED ARE: NO-START AND ENGINE SHUT-DOWN WHILE IN OPERATION. SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER IN VEHICLE IS SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
I PURCHASED MY 2001 IN 2003 AND HAS NEVER GIVEN ME ANY PROBLEMS. BUT AT THE END OF MARCH MY MALIBU WOULD NOT START. I HAD IT TOWED AND GOT A FULL TUNE UP AND IT RAN FOR ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE IT STARTED SKIPPING. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE MECHANIC AND HE GAVE THE CAR A TRANSMISSION FLUSH AND IT RAN FOR ABOUT A WEEK. TWO DAYS LATER WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR IT CUT OFF, I WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT BUT THEN SUNDAY MORNING 4/20/08 IT WOULD NOT START. I CALLED MY MECHANIC AND HE NOTICED THAT THE ANTI-THEFT LIGHT WAS BLINKING AND INDICATED THAT THE SYSTEM HAD LOCKED ME OUT, AND THAT THE IGNITION NO LONGER RECOGNIZES THE CHIP IN THE KEY. I HAVE READ ONLINE THAT SEVERAL OWNERS HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. I AM ANGER THAT GENERAL MOTORS HAS NOT TAKEN OWNERSHIP OF THIS VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM THIS PROBLEM AND ISSUED A RECALL. MY CAR HAS 41,000 MI AND I SHOULD NOT BE HAVING PROBLEMS LIKE THIS. THIS IS NOT RELEVANT TO WEAR AND TEAR THIS IS A DEFECTED PRODUCT AND A SAFETY ISSUE THAT WARRANTS THE ATTENTION OF THE MANUFACTURES AND OWNERS WHO ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR VEHICLE. THIS COULD POSSIBLY PROVE TO BE FATAL IF THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC ON THE STREET OR HIGHWAY LIKE MY CAR DID. MY HUSBAND AND I WERE LUCKY THIS TIME. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED, AND WAS CONTEMPLATING TRADING FOR THE NEWER 2008 MODEL, NOT ANYMORE. *TR
HAZARD SWITCH MALFUNCTIONED AND WAS REPLACED IN 2005 UNDER RECALL # 03V327000. HAZARD SWITCH MALFUNCTIONED AGAIN IN MARCH 2008. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER STATE THE POLICY THAT SWITCH CANNOT BE REPLACED MORE THAN ONCE UNDER THE RECALL, AND SECOND REPLACEMENT WAS AT CUSTOMER EXPENSE FOR A KNOWN AND RECALLED ISSUE. *TR
PROBLEMS WITH ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM. CAR WOULD NOT START. HAVE HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP TWICE AND HAD THE IGNITION PASS LOCK CHANGED BOTH TIMES WITHIN A 6 MONTH PERIOD. THE THIRD TIME IT HAPPENED WAS ONE DAY BEFORE THE 1 YEAR GUARANTEE ON THE PARTS AND LABOR OF THE PREVIOUS REPLACEMENT RAN OUT. HAD CAR TOWED AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY SAID IT WAS THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE PASS LOCK. THEY SAID IT WAS CORRODED AND THEY REPLACED IT BUT I HAD TO PAY FOR IT SINCE IT WAS NOT THE SAME PART AS THE PASS LOCK PART THEY REPLACED TWICE BEFORE. NATURALLY I HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING WHETHER THE WIRING HARNESS CORROSION WAS THE REAL PROBLEM ON THE FIRST, SECOND OR THIRD TIME. THEY NEVER REIMBURSED ME FOR THE TOW ON THE SECOND REPLACEMENT THAT WAS UNDER THEIR WARRANTY EITHER. TOW TRUCK DRIVER TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS AN ALMOST EVERYDAY OCCURRENCE FOR HIM ON GM VEHICLES THAT HE TOWED. RECALL AND REIMBURSEMENT SEEMS TO BE IN ORDER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE MECHANIC FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND HE STATED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE INTAKE VALVE. THE DEALER AND ANOTHER MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DIAGNOSED THE SAME FAILURE. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AND THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,800.

I HAVE A 2001 CHEVY MALIBU AND AFTER TAKING THE CAR IN TO GET THE SWITCH FOR THE BLINKERS FIXED ON THEIR RECALL, TWO WEEKS LATER IT STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN. I HAVE HAD TWO DEALERSHIPS TELL ME SINCE THEY ALREADY REPLACED THE FAULTY PART THAT I WOULD BE CHARGED. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE AN THE AFTERMARKET PARTS MAY ALSO BE FAULTY. *TR
THERE HAS BEEN A FAILURE TO THE FUEL SYSTEM SEVERAL DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. FUEL REGULATOR HAS BEEN REPLACED 3 DIFFERENT TIMES. A FUEL PUMP WAS PURCHASED 300$ TO REPLACE OLD ONE. THE RIGHT TAIL LIGHT HAS BEEN BOGGING ON AND OFF ALMOST CAUSED SEVERAL DIFFERENT ACCIDENTS. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF I CAN SELL THIS VEHICLE OR GET WHAT I PAID FOR IT ATLEAST? I SHALL TAKE FURTHER LEGAL ACTION UNTIL SOMETHING IS DONE. *TR
I HAVE MALIBU 2001 WITH 56000 MLS ON IT. TODAY I HAD TO CHANGE LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET.$950 TOTAL...BESIDE THIS A HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY THEFT SYSTEM,BRAKES ,LIGHT HAZARD SWITCH. AIR CONDITIONER ..ETC. THIS IS THE MY LAST GM CAR..PERIOD. *TR
CAR INITIALLY FAILED TO START. TOWED VEHICLE TO SHOP. SHOP COULDN'T FIND ANY THING WRONG. KEPT ON HAPPENING. AFTER MULTIPLE TOWS IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IT WAS THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM. I WENT OUTSIDE TO START MY 2001 CHEVY MALIBU AND IT WOULDN'T START. SO I HAD IT TOWED TO MECHANICS THEY KEPT MY CAR FOR A WEEK. THEY COULD FIND A TROUBLE CODE TO FIND OUT WHAT CASED THE PROBLEM OF THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM TO GO ON. I USE THE SAME KEY EVERYDAY NO ONE THERE TO STEAL THE CAR. SO NOW MY LIGHT STAY ON ALL THE TIME AN I LEARNED HOW TO PROGRAM THE CODE MYSELF THIS WAY I DON'T HAVE TO PAY EVERY TIME IT DON'T START. ALL SO MY TURN SIGNALS STOP WORKING SOMETIMES I NEVER TOOK IT TO GET FIX BECAUSE I LEARNED THAT IF YOU PUSH THE HAZARD LIGHTS THEY WILL WORK AGAIN. *TR
MY BOYFRIEND WAS KILLED IN A CAR ACCIDENT WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE. THE CAR FLIPPED AND HIT A TREE. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. *TR
2001 MALIBU WITH 50,525 MILES WITH FIRST OCCURRENCE 12/07/06. PASSLOCK SYSTEM FAILURE AND CAR WILL NOT START (NEW FUEL PUMP). ANTI THEFT LIGHT KEEPS BLINKING AND CAR WON'T START CONTINUES ALMOST MONTHLY. MALIBU HAS BEEN TOWED TO DEALER 7 TIMES SINCE DEC 06. FUEL PUMP REPLACED DEC 06 NOT THE PROBLEM. IGINITION CYLINDER NOT THE PROBLEM. TOWED AGAIN 10/17/07 SAME PROBLEM. DEALER CLIPPED 3 WIRES TO PASSLOCK SYTEM SAID THEY WERE CRIMPED. (THAT MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM ACCORDING TO TECH) HOWEVER, PROBABLY BEEN THAT WAY SINCE CAR PURCHASED IN 2001 NEW. WAIT AND SEE. CALLED GM AT ONE POINT AND THEY COVERED HALF OF A $800 REPAIR BILL. SO FAR OVER $1500.00 IN REPAIRS AND $400.00 PLUS IN TOWING PLUS RENTAL CAR FEES. GM WHY NOT RECALL? TOO MANY COMPLAINTS ON SAME PROBLEM. *TR
THIS 2001 CHEVY MALIBU IS JUNK THE ANTI-THEFT LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON THE CAR STARTS ONLY HALF THE TIME. THE SAD THING IS MY WIFE AND 4 MONTH OLD BABY RIDES IN THIS CAR WITH ME WHEN IT DIES OUT ON THE HIGH WAY HERE IN TOWN AND IT DOES IT ON BUSY STREETS HERE IN TOWN. MY WIFE USED TO LOVE GM PRODUCTS BUT NOW AFTER THIS CAR AND PONTIAC GRAND AM WE HAD SHE HATES GM. IT DISAPPOINTING THEY HAVE ALL BAD CONSUMER RATING AND NO RECALL TO FIX THIS. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. NUMEROUS THINGS HAVE GONE WRONG WITH MY 2001 MONTE CARLO. 5 OR 6 TIMES THE DEALERSHIP HAS REPAIRED THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG WHERE IT CONTINUALLY POPS OUT. I AM REALLY CONCERNED WHEN IT MIGHT EXPLODE W/O A CRASH OR IF THERE IS A DRIVER SIDE CRASH IF IT WILL COME OUT TO PROTECT ME. STEERING AND FRONT SUSPENSION POPS. AT 55,117 MILES WE HAD THE OIL CHANGED (WHICH HAS BEEN DONE EVERY 3000 MILES) OR LESS AND ON THE MULTI POINT INSPECTION SHEET, IT LISTED SEVERAL THINGS THAT "MIGHT NEED ATTENTION" SOON. MY REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER DOESN'T WORK. NOTICED THIS AFTER ONE OF THE AIRBAG REPAIRS. THIS CAR HAS BEEN VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF BUT STILL THE NOISES PERSIST AND NOW TO BE TOLD THAT THESE PARTS MIGHT NEED REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT? SAFETY RECALL #03043A (03/08/2004) - TURN SIGNALS/HAZARD WARNING FLASHERS INOPERATIVE * THE TURN SIGNALS WORK INTERMITTENTLY: YOU HAVE TO PUSH THE HAZARD SWITCH OFF AND ON TO GET THE TURN SIGNALS TO WORK. IN ORDER TO MAKE THE TURN SIGNALS WORK, THE DRIVER MUST TAKE ONE HAND OFF THE STEERING WHEEL TO PUSH THE HAZARD SWITCH ON AND OFF AND THIS DEFECT ALSO FORCES THE DRIVER TO TAKE THEIR EYES FROM THE ROAD AND TO THE DASHBOARD OF THE VEHICLE IN AN EFFORT TO MAKE THE TURN SIGNALS WORK PROPERLY, WHICH IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO CLASSIC CHEVROLET IN ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL ON 9/10/07 PER THIS SAFETY RECALL. ALTHOUGH THE RECALL COVERS VIN #'S FROM 1M500024 TO 1M669822 (THE VEHICLE CLEARLY FALLS WITHIN THIS RANGE VIN# 1M551207), THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE THIS PART UNDER THAT RECALL. I CALLED CHEVROLET, AND WAS FIRST TOLD THAT IT WAS PART OF THE RECALL, AND THAT THE DEALER SHOULD REPLACE THE SWITCH AT NO CHARGE, THEN WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT, AS THERE ARE CERTAIN VIN #'S WITHIN THIS RANGE THAT ARE NOT EFFECTED. ULTIMATELY CHEVROLET REFUSED TO ADDRESS THE DEFECTIVE TURN SIGNAL SAFETY RECALL ISSUE. THIS VEHICLE IS HAVING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE AS THE OTHERS IN THIS VIN RANGE AND COULD NOT POSSIBLY NOT BE PART OF THIS RECALL. THEFT DEVICE REPLACED IN IGNITION SWITCH TWICE IN JUST OVER 2 YEARS, BOTH REPAIRS OVER $300+. LAST TIME IT FAILED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, IGNITION JUST SHUT OFF. HAD TO TOW TO DEALERSHIP TO REPAIR. WIFE LUCKILY GOT CAR STOPPED AND SOMEONE HELPED PUSH OUT OF STREET. I SEE THIS COMPLAINT A LOT. SOUNDS LIKE IT SHOULD BE A RECALL JUST LIKE THE REST OF THE JUNK THAT IS FAILING ON THESE MODELS. I WILL NEVER BUY CHEVROLET AGAIN. *TR
I HAVE TWICE REPLACED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS ON MY 2001 CHEVROLET MALIBU. BOTH TIMES IT HAS STARTED AS A SLOW SEEP FROM THE END OF THE ENGINE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. AT FIRST WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY PUDDLES, JUST A LOW FLUID INDICATOR ALARM. THEN WE HAD INTERMITTANT PUDDLES. THE LATEST OCCURENCE INCLUDED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WITH ABOUT AN HALF A GALLON OF FLUID INTO THE ENGINE, AND IT WAS 200 MILES FROM HOME. WE WERE FORTUNATE THAT WE WERE NOT DRIVING WHEN THE FAILURE WAS DISCOVERED, SO WE DIDN'T HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. THE FIRST REPAIR OCCURED IN JANUARY 2005 AT 101K MILES, THIS ONE IN AUGUST 07 WITH 144K MILES. THE FIRST REPAIR WAS DONE AT AN ASCE SHOP AND COST $700, THIS ONE WAS AT A DEALER AND COST $1200. I DESCRIBED THE INCIDENT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC, AND HIS FIRST QUESTION WAS, "GM CAR?" IT IS QUITE COMMON AND WELL KNOWN TO MECHANICS.

CAR TOWED TO CHEV DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP REPLACED INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET. TECH SAID GASKET WAS LEAKING CAUSING ENGINE TO HYDROLOCK. THIRD TIME DRIVING THE CAR SINCE REPAIR, CAR DIED IN TRAFFIC AGAIN ON FREEWAY. CAR IS SETTING AT DEALERSHIP AGAIN WAITING FOR TECHNICIAN TO DIAGNOSE SINCE OBVIOUSLY THE $1200 REPAIR JUST COMPLETED DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. *TR
CONSTANT PROBLEMS WITH THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM ON MY 2001 CHEVROLET MALIBU. PASSLOCK ENGAGES CONSTANTLY, CAUSING ME TO WAIT 10 MINUTES FOR RESET EVERY TIME THIS OCCURS. I HAVE A 2001 CHEVY MALIBU WITH A 3.1 LITER ENGINE AND I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE INTAKE GASKET ONCE BECAUSE IT LEAKED OIL INTO THE ANTIFREEZE AND ANTIFREEZE INTO THE OIL. IT WAS A PROBLEM THAT I DID NOT KNOW EXISTED WITH THIS MOTOR? I FOUND OUT A SHORT TIME LATER THAT THE DAMAGE WAS EXTENSIVE AND HAD TO PUT A MOTOR WITH 30,000 MILES INTO MY CAR. THAT WAS 1YEAR AGO LAST AUGUST AND AS OF TODAY SEPTEMBER 5TH I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS MOTOR AND I'M GOING TO HAVE TO REPLACE THE INTAKE GASKET AGAIN. WAS DRIVING CAR JUST PULLED OFF FROM A RED LIGHT MAKING A LEFT TURN AND CAR STARTED TO PULL FORWARD THEN COULD NOT STEER MYSELF WENT OFF ROAD ALMOST INTO TREES THEN JERKED ITSELF LEFT PULLING BACK TO ROAD AND ONTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC THEN STOPPED WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME SLOWLY W/ HAZARDS ON. 2ND INCIDENT WAS DRIVING AND CAR STARTED TO PULL /JERK FORWARD FAST TRIED TO PUT ON BRAKES AND WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO BRING CAR TO A STOP ALMOST FELT LIKE WAS NOT GOING TO STOP W/ALL MY PRESSURE APPLYING TO BRAKES WAS STILL HARD TO STOP CAR. ALL 4 INCIDENTS WERE SIMILAR IN THAT CAR KIND OF TOOK OFF ON IT'S OWN AND WAS NOT CONTROLLABLE AS FAR AS STEERING OR BRAKING. THIS CAR IS IN LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP FOR LAST FEW DAYS FOR THEM TO FIND/CORRECT THIS PROBLEM OUR DAUGHTER IS DRIVING THIS CAR AND IT'S NOT SAFE RIGHT NOW FOR HER TO DRIVE. THE DEALERSHIP CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. FIRST THEY THOUGHT ANTI LOCK BRAKES HAD A GLITCH, OR THE TRANSMISSION,BUT CAR IS NOT DOING THIS WHEN THEY TAKE FOR SHORT DRIVES AND THEY CAN NOT PIN POINT THIS PROBLEM. ,BUT THERE IS MOST CERTAINLY A PROBLEM. I DO NOT WANT MY CHILD TO GET HURT OR WORSE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE B/C NO ONE CAN DETECT THE PROBLEM. ALSO CAR HAD A BURNING RUBBERY/LIKE A BELT SMELL BEFORE AT LEAST 2 OF THESE INCIDENTS. ALL BELTS CHECK OUT OK. NO PROBLEMS. I HAVE A RELATIVE THAT HAD A CHEV VAN THAT IN LAST YEAR OR SO CAR BASICALLY TOOK OFF ON IT'S OWN AT A SPEED OF 50MPH. COULD NOT STOP VEHICLE WAS PUTTING ALL WEIGHT PRESSURE ON BRAKE CAR FINALLY CAME TO A STOP. PROB WOUND UP BEING A COMPUTER CHIP IN TRANSMISSION TRIGGERED THE CRUISE CONTROL COMPUTER CHIP TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE CHANGED . PLEASE CHECK INTO THIS TO SEE IF RELATED TO OUR ISSUE. THANK YOU. *JB

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP FAILED AND DISCOVERED A LEAK IN THE INTAKE GASKET. THE DEALER STATED THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07E021000 (FUEL SYSTEM TANK ASSEMBLY: PRESSURE RELIEF DEVICES). AS OF SEPTEMBER 12, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
IN THE PAST 3 YEARS WE HAVE HAD TWO SETS OF FRONT CALIPERS LOCKE DON THE 2001 CHEVY MALIBU. BOTH OF THESE HAVE CAUSED REPLACEMENTS OF BOTH THE CALIPERS AND THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. *AK
