TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AND ALL OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STARTED TO EXHIBIT THE FAILURE IMMEDIATELY AFTER BEING REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V400000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 168,000.
CAR WILL NOT START. SOLID "THEFT" LIGHT COMES ON DASHBOARD AND CAR WILL NOT TURN OVER, OR IF IT TURNS OVER, WILL CUT OUT SHORTLY AFTER. THIS ANTI-THEFT ISSUE CAUSES THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES TO DISABLE, AND AM NOT ABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. HAVE ALSO HAD CAR STALL OUT IN TRAFFIC AND LOSE ALL POWER. HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED SEVERAL TIMES DUE TO THE ISSUE. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL FIXES AND MECHANICAL REPAIRS, BUT THIS ISSUE CONTINUES TO GET WORSE. NO MATTER WHAT I TRY AND DO, AT RANDOM TIMES, MY CAR WILL NOT START, WHILE THE "THEFT" LIGHT COMES ON AND COMPLETELY DISABLES MY VEHICLE. AND SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR JUST SHUTS OFF. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE, AND AM USING AN ORIGINAL KEY TO START THE CAR. I DO NOT HAVE ANY TYPE OF SECURITY SYSTEM INSTALLED IN MY CAR. THERE IS NO REASON FOR THE "THEFT" LIGHT TO COME ON WHEN I AM JUST TRYING TO START MY VEHICLE, NOT STEAL IT. THE IGNITION RECALL FOR MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE ONLY INVOLVES REPLACING THE KEYS, BUT THIS ANTI-THEFT ISSUE, WHICH I AND OTHER CHEVROLET MALIBU OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING, IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD CAUSE A CRASH OR OTHER ACCIDENT TO OCCUR IF IT CAUSES THE CAR TO CUT OUT (LOSE POWER) FOR NO REASON WHILE DRIVING, AND AT THE SAME TIME DISABLING THE STEERING AND BRAKING SYSTEMS. THIS SHOULD DEFINITELY BE A SAFETY RECALL. *JS
I WAS PASSING A VEHICLE AT ABOUT 40 MPH. WHEN I RELEASED THE GAS PEDAL THE CAR KEPT ACCELERATING. I FINISHED MY PASS AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED THE WHOLE TIME STANDING ON THE BRAKES. DROPPED THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL. PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT IT OFF. I TRIED TO RESTART IT AND IT REEVED TO HIGH RPMS. AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES THERE WAS A LOUD CLUNK AND I RESTARTED THE CAR. THE RPMS STAYED AT NORMAL SPEED. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD IT SENT TO THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM. WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. *TR
I TELL DEALER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON "HE SAYS NOT TO BE CONCERNED THERE IS WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM TAILPIPE IGNITION CAN TAKE UP TO 5 MIN TO GET ON CODE SAYS CAR NEEDS EGR VALVE CAR NEEDED BRAKES AND ROTORS ALL THE WAY AROUND AND TYROD DEALER WILL NOT RESPOND TO CALLS CAR WAS RECALLED FOR IGNITION SWITCH NEVER REPAIRED I NEED TO KNOW IF I CAN TAKE IT IN TO CHEVY DEALER ONY HAD 1 MONTH VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE AND I AM 76 THERE IS A WARANTY ON ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION. *TR
2003 CHEVROLET CLASSIC. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO IGNITION KEY RECALL NOTICE. *SMD ACCORDING TO THE RECALL NOTICE, THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. *JB
THE IGNITION KEY CYLINDER WILL NOT ALLOW MY KEY TO GO TO A VERTICAL POSITION WHEN TURNING MY CAR TO THE OFF POSITION. THE CAR WOULD BE STATIONARY AND IN THE PARK POSITION, AS A RESULT, THE CAR STAYS ON AND MY BATTERY GETS DRAINED AND I NEED A JUMP ALL THE TIME. I STARTED DETACHING THE BATTERY WHEN I GO IN AND OUT OF STORES AND OVERNIGHT WHEN SLEEPING AND RECONNECTING WHEN I GO TO A NEW DESTINATION. I REPORTED THIS TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND THEY GAVE ME A KEY, TELLING ME THE PROBLEM WAS THE SIZE OF THE HOLE MY KEY RING HAD. NEEDLES TO SAY THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. I HAD NOT DRIVEN IT SINCE MAY OF 2015. NOW THAT THE WEATHER IS GETTING COLDER, I DON'T WANT TO KEEP GOING ON WITH THIS HASTLE. I AM NOT FINANCIALLY ABLE TO RECTIFY THIS SITUATION OUT OF POCKET, YET, THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON THE IGNITION SWITCHES. YOU WOULD NOT WANT TO BE IN MY SHOES. I PRAY I WILL BE ABLE TO GO TO A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP TO FIX OR REPLACE A SWITCH FOR ME. IF NOT, GOD WILL BLESS ME FOR I AM NOT AT FAULT FOR THIS FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH. 2003 CHEVROLET MALIBU. CONSUMER HAD TO HAVE THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM RESET DUE TO RECALL, AND WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED.
IGNITION SWITCH FAILED. AFTER PUTTING KEYS IN THE IGNITION, IGNITION SWITCH LOCKED AND WOULD NOT START THE CAR. GM HAS A RECALL ON 2003 CHEVY MALIBU'S FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT SAYS THAT THIS VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL ON IT?

WHEN I WAS LEAVING THE REGAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AFTER HAVING BEEN THERE FOR 2 HOURS FOR THEM TO PLACE A PIECE IN THE KEY LOOP OF MY KEY RING MY CAR SHUT OFF. I ASKED THEM WHY IT WAS STILL CUTTING OFF AFTER IT SUPPOSE TO HAVE BEEN FIXED AND THEY STATED THAT THEY DID NOT KNOW. I HAD MY 13 MONTH OLD SON IN THE CAR WITH ME AND THE ENTIRE APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES IT TOOK FOR ME TO GET BACK TO MY RESIDENCE THE CAR CUT OFF REPEATEDLY. I WAS IN FEAR OF MY CHILD AS WELL AS MY OWN SAFETY AND WAS VERY UPSET THAT THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT DO MORE TO RECTIFY MY ISSUE. MY CAR WAS NOT DOING THIS BEFORE AND NOW IT WILL NOT STOP. I HAVE REPLACED SEVERAL PARTS ON MY CAR AND STILL IT IS DOING THE SAME THING. AFTER HEARING ABOUT THE RECALL I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND STILL IT IS DOING THE SAME THING. I NEED MY CAR BUT DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO. I AM SO AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR WITH MY SON WHO IS SPECIAL NEEDS BECAUSE I DO NOT KNOW WHEN IT WILL SHUT OFF. *TR

THE IGNITION KEY THEN HAPHAZARDLY RELEASED FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO DRIVE NORMALLY WITHOUT THE KEY BEING IN THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE CONTACT REINSERTED THE KEY WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL POWERED ON AND RUNNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. IN LATEJUNE/EARLY JULY 2014, WE BOUGHT THE MALIBU FROM A PRIVATE PARTY. WE DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND OF KEY CHAIN THE GIRL WE GOT THE CAR FROM USED, HOWEVER AFTER THE COBALT RECALL, I KNOW THAT MY DAUGHTER ONLY USES THE IGNITION KEY WITH NO WEIGHT ON THE CHAIN. NOW THERE IS A RECALL ON THE KEYS FOR THIS CAR, GM RECALL 14350, AND THIS CARS IGNITION IS MESSED UP. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THIS IGNITION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED TOO? I WILL BE RESEARCHING THIS FURTHER. THE CONTACT RELEASED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND ACCELERATED WITH FORCE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE ANTITHEFT LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND VEHICLE WILL NOT START(WHICH IS A PROBLEM GM IS AWARE OF BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN REPORTED FOR YEARS AND IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET). IT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING AND AFTER A FEW MILES SHUT THE CAR DOWN. NO BRAKES, NO STEERING. ALMOST HAD A MAJOR ACCIDENT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
ON 9/04/14 TOOK CAR INTO SAWYER GM DEALER TO BE SERVICED AND INSPECTED ALL WENT WELL AND ALL PASSED EVERYTHING, WENT TO GROCERY STORE WENT TO START CAR AND KEY WOULD NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION TO TURN CAR ON, TRIED EVERYTHING POSSIBLE. SAWYER CAME AND TRIED BUT COULD NOT TURN THE KEY IT WAS LIKE FROZEN. THEY TOWED THE CAR AND SAID I NEEDED A NEW IGNITION. THY NEVER TOLD ME ABOUT THE RECALL ON THE TWO KEY RINGS AND AN INSERT IN THE KEY SLOT OR COVER OVER THE KEY HEAD ON ALL IGNITION KEYS. THEY PUT IN A NEW CYLINDER & SWITCH# 25832354 & A NEW KEY ASSEMBLY# 2852058 FOR THE TOTAL OF $523.80. I RECVD A RECALL LETTER AFTER THAT BECAUSE I CALLED GM CORP. WENT TO SAWYERS THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT HELP ME. [XXX], MANAGER SUPERVISOR OF PARTS DEPT. WAS VERY SARCASTIC. MY QUESTION IS: 1. WHY DIDN'T THEY TELL ME ABOUT RECALL# 14350 ? 2. IF THIS IS A DEFECT THAN WHY DID I HAVE TO PAY FOR A BRAND NEW IGNITION, SWITCH & KEY ASSEMBLY? NOW MY ABS LIGHT WON'T GO OFF AND WHEN YOU WANT TO TURN THE CAR OFF IT WON'T GO TO THE OFF POSITION WITHOUT JIGGLING THE SHIFTING LEVER WHEN IT IS IN PARK , WHEN YOU PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND YOU TRY TO TURN IT TO OFF IT DOESN'T GO TO OFF ALL THE WAY AND THEN YOU HAVE TO JIGGLE THE SHIFT AND THEN THE KEY WILL GO TO OFF ALL THE WAY. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. I DO NOT FEEL VERY SAFE WITH ALL THESE ISSUES TAKING PLACE AND AM VERY LEERY ABOUT DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. AM I STILL SUPPOSED TO GET THIS RECALL # 14350 DONE OR WHAT? WE HAD TO HAVE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD REPLACED, AT 55,000 MILES, WHICH DIDN'T OCCUR UNTIL 2012, BECAUSE I DON'T PUT A LARGE AMOUNT OF MILES ON MY CAR ANNUALLY. I COULD NOT GET ANY MONEY FROM THE RECALL, BECAUSE THE CLASS ACTION SUIT PAYOUT ENDED IN 2008, AND I WAS NEVER MADE AWARE. BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR STRUTS ARE LEAKING FLUID. I WAS TOLD ALL FOUR NEED, REPLACEMENT, AND THE MOUNTS AS WELL. . THE MECHANICS SAID NORMALLY THESE SHOULDN'T NEED REPLACEMENT UNTIL 75,000-80,000 MILES MINIMUM, AND SHOULD HAVE LASTED UNTIL 100,000 WHICH IS NORMAL. I'M A GENTLE DRIVER WHO DOESN'T LEND MY CAR OUT. I DRIVE OVER SPEED BUMPS VERY SLOWLY IN OUR TOWN, BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT SUSPENSION ISSUES. OUR TOWN'S SPEED LIMIT IS 15 MPH OVER THE SPEED BUMPS, AND I DO 7MPH OVER THEN. OTHERS WITH A 1999-2003 MALIBU, HAVE TOLD ME THEIR STRUTS HAVE WORN OUT JUST AS FAST ALSO.(AT 50,000 MILES OR SO). *TR

THE CONTACT HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND THEN THE PARK POSITION IN ORDER TO MANEUVER AND STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. DRIVING CAR ON HIGHWAY WHEN IT POWERED DOWN, TURNED OFF, LOST POWER STEERING, ETC. HAD TO PULL OVER, STOP CAR, AND RESTART IT. PRIOR TO THIS, HAD BEEN DRIVING IT IN TOWN ON SIDE STREET AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 CHEVROLET MALIBU THAT I PURCHASED NEW ON 12/27/02. THE IGNITION SWITCH HAD TO BE REPLACED ON 7/23/2014 AT 70,328 MILES FOR $307.13. I WOULD LIKE GM TO AT LEAST PAY THIS AMOUNT. THERE IS A GM 14350 RECALL ON THIS CAR. IN TALKING TO GM THEY WOULD ONLY CONSIDER PAYING FOR THIS, IF THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY ROTATION OF THE IGNITION KEY I AM A MAN 71 YEARS OLD AND HAVE OWNED MANY CARS, MOST PURCHASED NEW. I KEEP MOST CARS 10 YEARS AND OVER 100,000 MILES. I HAVE NEVER REPLACED AND IGNITION SWITCH UNTIL NOW. THIS PROBLEM TOOK ABOUT 3 MONTHS TO DIAGNOSE. THE INITIAL PROBLEM DEVELOPED WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL TURNED OFF WHILE IN USE. IT WAS VERY INTERMITTENT AND NOT PREDICTABLE. THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LITE CAME ON. THE CODES INDICATE A PROBLEM WITH THE OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT AND THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE NEXT TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME, THERE WERE NO CODES. THE NEXT SET OF PROBLEMS WAS THE POWER WINDOW, VENTILATION (AC AND FAN), AND RADIO WOULD NOT WORK. THE MAIN INDICATOR OF THIS PROBLEM WAS THE FUEL AND TEMPERATURE GAUGES WOULD NOT WORK. I WOULD GET VARIOUS WARNING LIGHTS AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE INCLUDING ABS, BATTERY AND OTHERS. THE PROBLEMS GOT WORSE AS THE TEMPERATURE GOT HOTTER. HALF WAY BETWEEN MILWAUKEE AND APPLETON, 100 MILES INTO A 200MILE TRIP, WE STOPPED AT A REST STOP. UPON RETURNING TO THE CAR, I COULDN?T GET THE FAN OR WINDOWS TO WORK OR ELIMINATE THE BATTERY WARNING LIGHT. FORTUNATELY, THE BACK WINDOWS WERE OPEN AND INCH WHEN WE LEFT THE REST STOP. ABOUT 10 MINUTES AFTER LEAVING THE REST STOP, EVERYTHING CAME ON. THE CAR BECAME UNUSABLE BECAUSE OF THESE PROBLEMS. TAKING IT TO AND INDEPENDENT SHOP THE OWNER WAS VERY PATIENT AS DAY AFTER DAY, NOTHING WOULD FAIL. FINALLY ON A HOT SUNNY DAY WITH THE CAR IN THE SUN, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO FAIL. REPLACING THE IGNITION SWITCH FIXED ALL THESE PROBLEMS. *TR

THIS ANTI THEFT LAMP IS ON IN MY CAR AND I CANNOT DRIVE. HAVE A HUSBAND WHO HAD A STROKE AND I NEED TO BE AT THE HOSPITAL THIS IS HORRIBLE. DRIVING DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF THE MONTH IN A 40MPH ZONE THE CAR TURNED OFF AND THAT ANTI THEFT LAMP WAS ON, I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND AVOID AN ACCIDENT VERY SCARY SITUATION. LAST NIGHT I COULD NOT GET HOME AND WAS STRANDED AFTER STOPPING THE VEHICLE AND IT WOULD NOT START. CAR TOWED HOME TODAY AND THIS LAMP IS STILL ON. I AM BEING TOLD THAT IT IS PROBABLY THE KEYS, THERE ARE 3 KEYS ALL OF WHICH ARE NO LONGER WORKING. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE UTILIZING PUTTING THE KEY TO THE ON POSITION WAITING 10 MINUTES AND THE CAR WILL START WELL THIS TIME IT IS NOT WORKING. REALIZED A FEW WEEKS AGO AFTER LOCKING THE DOORS ON THE CAR YOU WOULD HEAR A BEEP LIKE I HAD A KEYLESS ENTRY WHICH I DO NOT HAVE. I WAS DRIVING NEAR MY HOME WHEN A TURKEY RAN OUT IN FRONT OF MY VEHICLE FROM THE LEFT. I WAS LOOKING TO THE RIGHT AS I APPROACHED MY DRIVEWAY. I SAW THE TURKEY OUT OF THE CORNER OF MY EYE AND I STEPPED HARD ON MY BRAKES BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO IMMEDIATELY IDENTIFY THE ANIMAL. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WAS INFORMED THAT ALL OF MY BRAKE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS BRAKE LINE FAILURE OCCURRED BECAUSE THE LINES WERE SUSCEPTIBLE TO CORROSION CAUSED BY ROAD SALT. *TR

THERE ARE MULTIPLE ELECTRICAL ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS VEHICLE. SO MUCH SO THAT THE FACT THAT GM HAS NOT INSTITUTED A RECALL IS BEYOND MY BELIEF. IT MUST BE BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY ISSUES TO RECTIFY, IT IS NOT COST EFFECTIVE FOR THEM TO DO SO. SO PUT EVERYDAY LIVES AT RISK INSTEAD.THESE ISSUES HAVE BEEN INTERMITTENTLY ONGOING JUST BEFORE THE CAR HIT 50,000 MILES OR SO. IT STARTED WITH THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM. I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES I'VE HAD TO RESET THE CAR ALARM IN ORDER FOR IT TO START, DURING THE WARM SUMMER WEATHER IT'S AN ABOMINATION. SOMETIMES I MUST RESET IT 2-3 TIMES A DAY. NEXT IS THE HAZARD LIGHT IT INTERMITTENTLY CLICKS INCESSANTLY. DURING THIS TIME IT'S A CRAPSHOOT IF YOUR TURN SIGNALS WORK. I'VE HAD TO REMOVE THE HAZARD LIGHT FROM ITS HOUSING IN ORDER TO MANIPULATE IT TO GET TURN SIGNALS TO WORK WHEN IT'S CLICKING. ALSO THE VEHICLE CHIMES AT TIMES WHEN I'M DRIVING. IT'S THE TYPE OF CHIME YOU HEAR WHEN YOU LEAVE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND HAVE THE DOOR OPEN.THIS IS LESS FREQUENT THEN THE HAZARD LIGHT CLICKING BUT AN ANNOYANCE JUST THE SAME. I'VE ALSO HAVE HAD A SITUATION ON WAY TO EMPLOYMENT AND THE CAR LOST POWER. LUCKILY NO ACCIDENT RESULTED. WHETHER THIS WAS DUE TO SIMILAR ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH RECENT THE GM RECALLS PRESENTLY OR ASSOCIATED WITH MY CURRENT ISSUES, I DO NOT KNOW. THIS IS THIRD OR FOURTH TIME THEFT DETERRENT WARNING LIGHT HAS ENGAGED OVER THE PAST 3 YEARS, BUT ONLY TIME CAR HAS SHUT DOWN AND NOT STARTED.
