THE CAR WOULD RANDOMLY STOP RUNNING. THIS COULD HAPPEN WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY OR WHEN THE CAR WAS IN MOTION. DAUGHTER WAS CAUGHT A COUPLE OF TIME IN THE SITUATION. NO POWER STEERING OF BRAKES. COULD HAVE HAD A FATAL ACCIDENT. IF YOU LOOK AT THIS CAR AND OTHER GM CARS, THERE HAVE BEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS, THE PROBLEM LIES WITH THE PASS LOCK SYSTEM (ANTI THEFT). THE CAR THINKS THAT ITS THE WRONG KEY AND KILLS THE IGNITION. I FOUND A WORK AROUND ONLINE. WHICH INVOLVES WIRING A RESISTOR INTO THE IGNITION SYSTEM....THE CAR HAS BEEN FINE SINCE. *TR
I AM CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING LOSS OF STEERING AND SUSPENSION PERFORMANCE WITH MY VEHICLE INCLUDING SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF TIRE TREAD FOR MY VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE BOUNCES AND MAKES SCREECHING SOUNDS WHILE STEERING A CURVE ON THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED IN EARLY MARCH AND NO MECHANICAL PROBLEM WAS OBSERVED OR DETECTED. A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT WAS ALSO DONE AT A CHEVROLET DEALER A FEW MONTHS BACK AND NO PROBLEMS WERE FOUND OR DETECTED THEN. I HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE MECHANICAL OPERATION OF EITHER THE STEERING OR SUSPENSION COMPONENT OF THE VEHICLE. KINDLY INVESTIGATE AND LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM. THE HEATING/COOLING BLOWER DOES NOT OPERATE AT LOW SPEED SETTING (1-3). WORKS ONLY AT HIGH (4) SPEED SETTING. AT TIMES SOME SMOKE IS OBSERVED COMING OUT OF AIR VENTS. I HAD SPOKEN TO A MECHANIC DURING ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AT A DEALERSHIP AND HE TOLD ME THAT THIS IS CORROSION PROBLEM CAUSING DUE TO CONDENSATION AND ERODING THE CONTACTS RESULTING IN NON OPERATION OF BLOWER MOTOR AT LOW SETTING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT DECELERATE. THE CONTACT EXCESSIVELY APPLIED THE BRAKES AND WAS ABLE TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND REPLACED THE THROTTLE POSITION INDICATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLE, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK TO THE FLOOR AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RELEASE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A POLE. THE CONTACT PLACED THE GEAR IN REVERSE; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND CRASHED INTO SEVERAL PARKED VEHICLES, BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. THE CONTACTS SHOULDER WAS BRUISED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED I TRIED TO START MY CAR AND IT WOULD NOT START AND ENDED UP HAVING IT TOWED TO A GARAGE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS LATER TO FIND OUT IT WAS AN THEFT SYSTEM PART THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SO WE DID THAT THEN THE SAME THING STARTED HAPPENING AGAIN. I GOT OUT THE OWNERS MANUAL AND WAS READING ABOUT TURN THE KEY FOR 10 MINUTES. WELL THIS HAS BEEN A ON GOING PROBLEM FOR SOME TIME NOW. IT WAS NOT UNTIL I STARTING READING ALL THESE THING ON THE INTERNET TO REALIZE THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM AND THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE. MY VEHICLE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN ITS GOING TO START OR NOT SO IN THE MORNING I HAVE TO GO OUT EARLIER THEN USUAL JUST IN CASE I HAVE TO TURN THE KEY FOR 10 MINUTES OR NOT. THE SCARY PART IS READING ALL THESE PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN DRIVING AND THE CAR JUST STALLS OUT ON THEM. GM WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE FOR OTHER LIVES TO BE TAKEN BEFORE YOU REALIZE THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM. MY CAR HAS BEEN A GREAT CAR OTHER THEN THIS PROBLEM AND IT STILL IS A GREAT CAR. JUST IF THE THIS THEFT SYSTEM PROBLEM WOULD BE FIXED. COME ON GM STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND DO WHAT'S RIGHT DO THE RECALL AND GET THIS FIXED SO WE CAN GO ON WITH OUR LIVES. THANKS *TR
THE CAR FAILS TO START DUE TO THE PASSLOCK II SYSTEM FAILURE. IT WILL NOT ENGAGE THE FUEL PUMP AND/OR IGNITION SYSTEM. THE THEFT LOCKOUT SYSTEM LIGHT STAYS ON OR FLASHES ALL OTHER DASH WARNING LIGHTS DO NOT LIGHT UP. THE CAR WILL START RANDOMLY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE CAR. THE PASSLOCK II RELEARNING METHOD HAS TO BE USED TO START THE CAR AS INSTRUCTED BY GM IN THE OWNERS MANUAL SECTION 2 PAGE 17 WHEN THE THEFT SYSTEM FAILS. THIS METHOD WILL WORK RANDOMLY. NO KNOW REPAIR. *TR
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I AM HAVING THIS PROBLEM...THE SAME PROBLEM EVERYONE ELSE IS HAVING....CAR WONT START DUE TO ANTI THEFT ISSUE....LUCKILY MY CAR WAS IN A PARKING LOT AT A GROCERY STORE. THIS REALLY NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY GM BECAUSE EVERYONE I KNOW IS AWARE AND IF I AM INJURED IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THIS FAILS WHILE DRIVING - I WILL FIND A VERY GOOD LAWYER AND COLLECT ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINERS ONLINE FOR THIS SAME ISSUE AND FILE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT - THERE ARE PLENTY ENOUGH TO DO SO....THIS IS GETTING REDICULOUS. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE GM STEPS UP AND ACTUALLY FIXES THE PROBLEM? THEY RECALLED FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL ACCELERATOR AND WHILE I DID RESPOND AND TAKE MY CAR IN THEY TOLD ME MINE WAS NOT AN ISSUE...ONLY TO DISCOVER A YEAR LATER IT IS AN ISSUE...I JUST DEAL WITH IT LIKE I WILL THIS ONE I GUESS....UNBELIEVABLE THAT NO ONE CARES EXCEPT THE FAMILY MEMBERS OF THE PEOPLE DRIVING THESE 23K DOLLAR VEHICLES....I CANT SELL THE CAR BECAUSE EVERYONE OUT THERE KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND I WOULD BE SELLING A LEMON....NOW WHAT?
I BOUGHT A CHEVY MALIBU NEW IN 2003. I NEVER KNEW IT HAD ANY ANTI THEFT DEVICE. THREE WEEKS AGO THE ANTI THEFT LIGHT CAME ON. I IGNORED IT. AFTER A FEW DAYS THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THE ENGINE STARTED TO RUN BUT SPUTTERED OUT. I LOOKED IN THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL THAT CAME WITH THE CAR. IT SAYS IF THE ANTI THEFT LIGHT COMES ON (FOR NO REASON) TURN IGNITION TO ON POSITION WAIT TEN MINUTES TURN CAR OFF AND THE CAR WILL START. I FOLLOWED INSTRUCTIONS AND CAR STARTED. SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN YESTERDAY. I FOLLOWED INSTRUCTIONS AND CAR RUNS AGAIN. PROBLEM I HAVE IS WHY WOULD THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM BE ACTIVATED FOR NO REASON? CHEVY KNEW THIS HAPPENS AND THIS IS WHY THEY HAVE IT WRITTEN UP IN THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL. IF THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM IS FAULTY IE COMES ON FOR NO REASON AND PROHIBITS THE CAR FROM STARTING, CHEVY SHOULD NOT HAVE INSTALLED IT IN THE FIRST PLACE. *TR
THE ANTI- THEFT DEVICE IN THE 2003 CHEVROLET MALIBU HAS LEFT ME STRANDED 12 DIFFERENT TIMES BEGINNING NOVEMBER OF LAST YEAR. THIS VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE RECALLED FOR THIS REASON. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. GENERAL MOTORS IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND DOES NOTHING. GENERAL MOTORS IS PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST JOBS. GENERAL MOTORS IS PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE, INFANTS, CHILDREN, DISABLED MEN AND WOMEN IN THE U.S. BEING STRANDED IN THEIR AUTOMOBILES EVERY DAY. WE OWN A 2003 CHEV MALIBU, SOLD AND SERVICED IN CANADA, BUT MANUFACTURED AT GM'S LANSING, MICHIGAN ASSEMBLY PLANT. CHEV MALIBUS ARE NOT YET INCLUDED ON THE GM IGNITION SWITCH RECALL LIST, BUT IN OCT/11 WE HAD EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEMS REPORTED BY THOSE VEHICLES CURRENTLY ON THE RECALL LIST: FOR PERHAPS 5 SECONDS, A TOTAL LOSS OF ALL POWER (ENGINE, LIGHTS, POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES, ETC.,) WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH, AT NIGHT. AFTER THAT 5 SECOND DELAY, ALL POWER RESUMED, (LIGHTS, ENGINE, ETC) AND THE CAR OPERATED PERFECTLY FOR THE REST OF THE DRIVE HOME. A DAY LATER, WE AGAIN HAD A TOTAL LOSS OF ALL POWER, THIS TIME WHILE TURNING A CORNER AT SLOW SPEED. THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKING MADE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT THEN. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER, ON 25 OCT/11, I HAD MY IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED AT MY LOCAL GM CHEV DEALERSHIP, AT A COST OF $416.51. AT NO TIME DID THE DEALER MENTION ANY KNOWN PROBLEMS WITH THESE IGNITION SWITCHES. IN LIGHT OF THE RECENT RECALL, I CONTACTED MY GM DEALERSHIP, WHO STATED THEY COULD NOT COMMENT ON WHETHER THE REPLACEMENT SWITCH IS POTENTIALLY FAULTY OR NOT - AND HOW WOULD DEALERS KNOW, IF GM REPLACED THE ORIGINAL SWITCHES WITHOUT CHANGING THE PART NUMBER? WERE DEALERS TOLD TO GET RID OF THE "OLD STOCK", OR TO RETURN IT TO GM? THE DEALER STATED THAT, IF AND WHEN MY VEHICLE IS ADDED TO THE CURRENT RECALL LIST, THEY WOULD "REPLACE THE REPLACEMENT". IN OTHER WORDS, I COULD BE DRIVING WITH A FAULTY SWITCH - A POTENTIAL DANGER TO MYSELF AND TO OTHERS....AND, TO DATE, GM APPARENTLY DOESN'T PLAN TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I'M OUT $416 AND MAY STILL HAVE A DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH. I RECOGNIZE THAT YOUR DEPARTMENT'S AUTHORITY DOESN'T EXTEND TO CANADA. HOWEVER, ALTHOUGH MY VEHICLE WAS SOLD AND SERVICED IN CANADA, IT WAS MANUFACTURED IN LANSING, MICHIGAN - LIKE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF OTHER CHEV MALIBUS. *TR
PARKED THE CAR, CAME BACK OUT AND IT WOULDN'T START, THOUGH THERE WAS POWER FROM THE BATTERY AND THE ENGINE ACTED LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO TURN OVER (INDICATING THAT IT WASN'T THE ALTERNATOR). HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED. TURNED OUT THAT THE "THEFT SYSTEM" (PASSLOCK) LOCKED ME OUT. MECHANICS "RESET" IT. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT 10 DAYS LATER. *TR
MY 2003 CHEVY MALIBU WOULD NOT START. I LEARNED THAT THE REASON IT WOULD NOT START WAS DUE TO THE THEFT SYSTEM PASS LOCK. SOMEHOW THE THEFT SYSTEM WAS TRIGGERED AND CUT THE FUEL SUPPLY TO THE ENGINE. I DID WHAT THE MANUAL SAID AND WAITED 10 MINUTES WITH THE KEY IN THE ON POSITION. THE CAR STARTED AFTER THAT; HOWEVER TWO WEEKS LATER, THE CAR DOES THE SAME THING. THE PROCESS IS REPEATED TO RESET THE THEFT SYSTEM. BUT NOW I WONDER HOW MANY MORE TIMES THIS PROBLEM WILL OCCUR AND WHY HASN'T ANYTHING BEEN DONE ABOUT A RECALL. OVER 30 INCIDENTS HAVE REPORTED ONLINE AT HTTP://WWW.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM/CHEVROLET/MALIBU/2003/ SO WHY HASN'T THERE BE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM SURE THAT MORE PEOPLE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS THEY JUST HAVE NOT REPORTED IT. THIS PROBLEM IS VERY INCONVENIENT AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOUR CAR IS ACTUALLY GOING TO START. AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR I AM UNABLE TO START IT BECAUSE THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM WILL BLOCK THE CAR FROM STARTING. I WILL PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND THE SENSOR LIGHT WILL FLASH. I HAVE TO WAIT EXACTLY 10 MINUTES WITH THE KEY TURNED TO "ON" BEFORE THE LIGHT STOPS FLASHING AND I CAN TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN. ON A FEW OCCASIONS THIS HAS OCCURRED BACK TO BACK RESULTING IN HAVING TO WAIT AT LEAST 20 MINUTES TO START MY CAR. I HAVE SEEN THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS CAR, WHICH SEEMS TO DEFEAT THE PURPOSE OF A SAFETY FEATURE IF YOU HAVE TO WAIT IN A DARK PARKING LOT ALONE FOR 10 MINUTES BECAUSE OF FAULTY CONSTRUCTION. *TR
THE POWER STEERING HAS FAILED 5 TIMES WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. EACH TIME,MY DAUGHTER HAS PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE, AND THE POWER STEERING OPERATED CORRECTLY AGAIN. I HAVE HAD THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM CHECKED BY CERTIFIED GM MECHANICS AT THE LOCAL GM DEALERSHIP; THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS COMMON PROBLEM BUT THEY DID KNOW OF A REMEDY. THE DEALERSHIP CHECKED THE STEERING SYSTEM EACH TIME, AND DID NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. I AM SELLING THIS VEHICLE...IT IS NOT SAFE ENOUGH FOR MY DAUGHTER TO DRIVE. *TR
CAR WILL NOT START FUEL PUMP SHUTS DOWN, CAR THINKS IT IS BEING BROKEN INTO. HAVE TO SIT IN CAR FOR 10 MINUTES WITH KEY IN IGNITION TO OVERRIDE SYSTEM. HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN LAST MONTH. ALSO, FUEL PUMP SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING ON PARKWAY- LUCKY TO GET TO SIDE OF ROAD WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. BY THE WAY, NEW FUEL PUMP AND MODULE REPLACED AT 60,000 SO THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE.. HOW MANY PEOPLE NEED TO GET INTO ACCIDENTS OR DIE BEFORE THE NHTSA GETS INVOLVED AND MAKES CHEVY DO THE RIGHT THING AND REPLACE THIS IGNITIONS AND PASSLOCK PARTS THAT ARE DEFECTIVE!!!! OH, AND THEY GOT A BAIL OUT- BUT THE CONSUMERS DON'T GET ANY AND HAVE TO CONTINUE TO PAY THEM FOR REPAIRS THAT THEY CAUSED IN THE FIRST PLACE GM MAKES AN ASTRONOMICAL AMOUNT OF MONEY ON THESE REPAIRS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED TO SHUT OFF WHEN THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF. IN ADDITION, WHEN THE KEY WAS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION, THE LIGHTS AND RADIO REMAINED ACTIVATED, WHICH CAUSED THE BATTERY TO DRAIN. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THERE WAS A LOSS OF CONTROL IN THE STEERING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO REGAIN FULL CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE WITH CAUTION. THERE WAS A NEARBY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THE SUB FRAME WAS FRACTURED DUE TO CORROSION. IN ADDITION, BOTH FRONT COIL SPRINGS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION AND THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CONTINUOUSLY UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO A FAULTY TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM, IN WHICH THE TECHNICIAN RESET. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR MOST RECENT MALFUNCTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000. .. THE CONTACT SUFFERED MINOR CUTS AND BURNS AS A RESULT AND HAD TO SEEK MEDICAL TREATMENT. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TURN SIGNALS WOULD STOP ILLUMINATING ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 65, WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM ACTIVATED, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RPMS WOULD RAISE AND THE ENGINE WOULD INCREASE. IN 2006, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND REPAIRED FOR RECALL NUMBER: 04V528000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL: ACCELERATOR PEDAL); HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. NO FURTHER INSPECTION OR REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000.

REPLACED FLOOR SHIFT CONTROL. REPLACED SHIFTER CABLE & IGNITION SWITCH CABLE. THE PROBLEM REMAINS. I BASICALLY GAVE UP COMPLAINING TO THE DEALER AND WENT BACK TO THE 10 MINUTE RESET PROCEDURE. TOOK IT TO A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP, AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE SHIFTER AND KNOB ASSEMBLY. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE AND USED THE ORIGINAL KEYS. FURTHERMORE, THIS CAR HAD LOW MILEAGE, 56,040 MILES, FOR A SEVEN YEAR OLD CAR, AND WAS BARELY DRIVEN TO HAVE TO HAVE SUCH A SERIOUS REPAIR. I SEE THAT THERE IS SOME KIND OF TECHNICAL BULLETIN FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT CHEVROLET SHOULD HAVE PAID FOR THE REPAIR INSTEAD OF CHARGING ME THE $346.56 TO REPAIR A KNOWN ISSUE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED. THE PASSLOCK ANTI THEFT SYSTEM IS A VERY DANGEROUS SYSTEM. THERE HAVE BEEN THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SYSTEM. THOUSANDS OF ANGRY, FRUSTRATED PEOPLE THAT ARE BEING LEFT WITH NO RECOURSE. THE PROBLEM DATES FROM THE 1990S.THROUGH 2010. THE PROBLEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED BEFORE NOW. I JUST SPENT OVER $5000. FOR A CAR THAT CANNOT BE MOVED OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY I DON'T THINK CONGRESS HEARD THE SCREAMS I'VE HEARD AND READ ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ('I'LL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GM CAR AGAIN', OR 'IF THERE IS EVER A CLASS ACTION SUITE, COUNT ME IN') WE DON'T KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HURT BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN LEFT STRANDED, OR THEIR CARS CAUSED WRECKS BECAUSE THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM KICKED IN AND CUT OFF THE FUEL WHILE THEY WERE GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MILES AN HOUR. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO READ ABOUT SO MANY UNHAPPY PEOPLE. I CAME FROM A GENERATION OF PEOPLE THAT WORKED FOR FIFTY YEARS. WE DID ALL THE THINGS WE WERE SUPPOSED TO. 2003 CHEVY MALIBU PASSLOCK PASSIVE SECURITY SYSTEM FAILURE. THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM ENGAGES ON MY CAR FREQUENTLY. IT COSTS OVER $245 TO RESET AND $800 TO FIX. I DID AN INTERNET SEARCH AND THOUSANDS OF OTHER GM CAR OWNERS WITH PASSLOCK SYSTEMS ARE HAVING THE PROBLEM. MY CAR WILL SUDDENLY STOP WHILE DRIVING AND I'VE NARROWLY AVOIDED SERIOUS ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF IT. OTHER TIMES IT WILL SIMPLY NOT START. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE BUT IT FAILED TO START. THE CONTACT HAD TO HOLD THE KEY IN PLACE FOR APPROXIMATELY TEN MINUTES IN ORDER TO START THE VEHICLE . THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,000.

THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT ASSIST THE CONTACT. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 157,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 170,000. NW
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE IGNITION LOCK HOUSING ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START BECAUSE THE COMPUTER ASSUMED THE VEHICLE WAS BEING STOLEN DUE TO THE IGNITION SECURITY SWITCH FEATURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE IGNITION LOCK HOUSING ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED JUST RECENTLY PRIOR TO THE MOST CURRENT FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,760. STATUS UPDATE 11/15/11
MY TURN SIGNALS AND HAZARD LIGHTS DO NOT ALWAYS WORK. SOMETIMES THEY DON'T WORK AT ALL AND OTHER TIMES THEY BLINK A FEW TIMES AND THEN STOP. I DRIVE ON MAJOR INTERSTATES AND I'M ALWAYS AFRAID THAT THIS WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I CANNOT PREDICT IF OR WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN. WHEN IT DOES HAPPEN, IF I TAP OR LIGHTLY PRESS THE FLASHER BUTTON ON THE DASH IT SEEMS TO HELP. I'VE SEEN OTHER REPORTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY FLAW. *TR
THE GAS PEDAL IS STICK. IT ACCELERATES THE CAR BY ITSELF. I HAVE TO USE MY FOOT TO GET IT OUT TO AVOID ACCELERATION. I CALLED GM AND THEY TOLD ME THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY TOYOTA'S STICKY PEDAL IS A BIG DEAL, WHILE GM DOES NOTHING FOR IT. I SAW POSTINGS OF THE SAME PROBLEM FOR A LONG TIME. I HOPE GM TAKE ACTION BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. *TR
