REAR WINDOW OF VEHICLE APPARENTLY BROKEN BY TRUNK LID OPENING TOO FAR. TRUNK LID OPENED TOO FAR DUE TO TWO RUBBER TRUNK LID STOPS HAD BOTH PREVIOUSLY FALLEN FROM THEIR DESIGNED LOCATION. CHEVROLET DEALER STATES THESE PARTS WERE A PROBLEM AND ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE-NEW PARTS HAVE BEEN DESIGNED AND WILL COST APPROXIMATELY $100 IF PURCHASED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH THE RIGHT DRIVERS SEAT DETACHED FROM THE METAL BASE. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER FILED REPORT 71937106775 BUT WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR COST, BECAUSE OF THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE AND SINCE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 131,000. UPDATED 07/08/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE WELD BROKE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH. THE SEAT TILTED BACK TO THE RIGHT REAR. THE PASSENGER FRONT SEAT WENT TO ADJUST IT AND IT STARTED GOING UP AT AN ANGLE. IT GOT TILTED AND LOOSE, THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT WAS TO PUT IT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR BUT CAN FEEL IT ROCK. ALL I CAN THINK OF IS I AM SCREWED IN AN ACCIDENT. ALSO THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR COMES ON ALL THE TIME AND WHEN YOU GET AN OIL CHANGE, THEN IT DISAPPEARS FOR A LITTLE WHILE, THEN COMES ON AGAIN EVERYTIME YOU START THE CAR. *KB
I'VE RECEIVED 3 LETTERS IN THE LAST APPROX. 8 MONTHS. FIRST WAS RECALLING POWER STEERING, THEN ONE FOR BRAKES,AND THEN TRANSMISSION. AS SOON AS CAR WAS PAID OFF I LITERALLY HAD TO BUY ANOTHER TRANY TWICE IN TWO YEARS . THE LAST LETTER SAID I CAN DEFINITELY CRASH BECAUSE OF THIS RECALL PROBLEM SPECIALLY SAID I WOULD IT IS IN THE LETTER. I COULDN'T BELIEVE MY EYES. EVERY LETTER SAID SORRY PARTS AREN'T AVAILABLE WE WILL NOTIFY YOU. NEVER HAS CONTACTED ME AND IT HAS BEEN HALF A YEAR. I'M DRIVING A VERY UNSAFE VEHICLE WRITTEN BY CHEVROLET COMPANY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU CLASSIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTI-THEFT AND THE ABS WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. ADDITIONALLY, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, DIMMER SWITCH, RADIO, SPEEDOMETER, AIR CONDITIONING LIGHTS, AND THE AIR CONDITIONING CONTROLS ALL FAILED. THE CONTACT HAD TO REPOSITION THE KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH AND ATTEMPTED NUMEROUS TIMES TO START THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE ANTI-THEFT FEATURE WOULD NOT ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO BE STARTED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V252000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL AND SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
MY 2004 CHEVY MALIBU LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. THE POWER STEERING GOES ON AND OFF (WORKING SOME DAYS AND NOT ON OTHERS). THE POWER STEERING IS CURRENTLY OUT AND I CANNOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP STATES THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE MALIBU BUT SINCE IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY I WILL HAVE TO COVER THE COST. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 MALIBU, DRIVING DOWN FREEWAY AND STEERING WHEEL WHOULD NOT MOVE. I HAD NO CONTROL OF MY CAR. MY RADIO DISPLAYED POWER STEERING. I TOOK TO THE SHOP TO CHECK ISSUE. THE SHOP STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE AND RESET. THE CAR SHOP DID TELL ME AND THE WARRANTY THAT IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. I CALLED GM AND CAR DEALER NOT THERE ISSUE TO FIX! THIS IS A DEFECT? PLEASE HELP! *TR
THE ELECTRONIC STEERING HAS FAILED WHILE TURNING OR ACCELERATING. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. THE STEERING RETURNS ONCE THE RPM S SETTLE OUT. THE STEERING SYSTEMS HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE AND WORKED ON SEVERAL TIMES. CHEVY HAS ISSUES BEING ABLE TO SUPPLY REPLACEMENT PARTS AND RESOLVING THIS ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING LAMP ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
THE DRIVER SEAT ON THIS CAR HAS COME OFF THE RAILS ON RIGHT SIDE CAUSING IT TO TILT. IF THE SEAT IS NOT MOVED TO THE LOWEST SETTING THE TILTS WITH THE MOVEMENT OF THE CAR. I HAD THE SEAT REPAIRED ONCE; IT FAILED AGAIN AFTER ABOUT 6 MONTHS. AT THE SAME TIME I HAD THE EMERGENCY BRAKE REPAIRED. WHEN SETTING THE BRAKE, I HEARD A LOUD BANG. THE REPAIR FAILED ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO FOR THE SECOND TIME. I AM ALSO GOING THROUGH NEW BRAKES ON THIS CAR AT AN ALARMING RATE - THREE BRAKE REPLACEMENTS ALREADY AND THE CAR HAS 90,000 MILES. THE CAR IS AGAIN BEGINNING TO SHIMMY/SHUDDER WHEN GOING DOWN STEEP HILLS AND THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THE CAR SEEMS NOT TO SLOW DOWN AT ALL (I.E. SHIFTING GEARS) WHEN GOING DOWN HILL OTHER THAN BY THE BRAKES - IT FEELS LIKE A FREE FALL. THE SIGNALS, HEADLIGHTS, TAILLIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS ALSO NEED FREQUENT REPLACEMENT. I TYPICALLY HAVE TO REPLACE AT LEAST ONE OF THESE AT EACH OIL CHANGE AND HAVE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS NEEDED TO MAKE REPLACEMENTS BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. I WOULD ESTIMATE THE HEADLIGHTS/BLINKERS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES. THE REAR LIGHTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED PERHAPS TEN TIMES. CURRENTLY THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT IS OUT AND CANNOT BE REPAIRED WITHOUT TAKING OFF THE INTERIOR COVER OF THE CAR TO ACCESS THE WIRING - THE BULB IS NOT THE PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD EXPERIENCE AN INTERMITTENT FAILURE IN WHICH THE POWER STEERING WOULD FAIL WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. DURING THE FAILURES, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. IN ORDER TO REGAIN POWER STEERING, THE VEHICLE WOULD BE RESTARTED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED A MODULE WITHIN THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNAVAILABLE.
MY POWER STEERING ON MY 2004 MALIBU MAXX LOCKS UP AT RANDOM TIMES, THROWS THE CAR TO THE LEFT, I WAS GETTING THE BATTERY LIGHT AND A DING WHEN THIS WOULD HAPPEN. I HAD THE SERPENTINE BELT CHANGED IN MARCH 2011 THEN THE TENSIONER IN JUNE 2011. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WOULD CURE THE PROBLEM, AS THESE COMPONENTS ARE LINKED TO THE ALTERNATOR AND THE POWER STEERING PUMP/MOTOR. THIS PROBLEM IS STILL HAPPENING, HOWEVER NOW, I DO NOT GET THE BATTERY LIGHT, JUST A DING WHEN THE STEERING LOCKS AND THE CAR VEERS TO THE LEFT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH AROUND A CURVE AND THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED TO RESPOND WHILE MAKING A TURN FOR APPROXIMATELY FIVE SECONDS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY REPLACED THE STEERING SHAFT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,123.
CHEVY MALIBU DRIVER SIDE SEAT FRAME BROKEN WELDS. THE WELDS IN THE FRAME HAVE BROKEN CAUSING THE SEAT TO BECOME UNSTABLE. IF THE CAR WAS INVOLVED IN A MINOR ACCIDENT THE SEAT WOULD FALL APART. I AM AVERAGE SIZE AND WEIGHT AND BELIEVE THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH IN THE DRIVEWAY, THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED IT, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY FOR TEN MINUTES BEFORE THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR AT VARIOUS SPEEDS ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A FAULTY SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK WHEN HER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND POWER STEERING FLASHED ACROSS HER INFORMATION SCREEN. WHEN SHE WAS ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP ON HER. FORTUNATELY SHE WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT. WE HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A MECHANIC, WHO LOOKED AT IT AND SAID THAT THE ONLY THING HE THOUGHT IT COULD BE WAS THE RACK AND PINION. WE HAD THAT REPLACED AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE FOR A FEW DAYS, AND THEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. IT HAS BEEN A CONSTANT ANNOYANCE, AND YOU HAVE TO CONSTANTLY RESTART THE CAR TO GET THE POWER STEERING TO COME BACK ON. JUST RECENTLY IT WAS TAKEN BACK TO A MECHANIC WHO STATED HE HAD TO REPLACE FLUID? I PICKED THE CAR UP FROM HIM ON 9/19/2011 AND TODAY 9/20/11 WITH MY 11 WEEK OLD DAUGHTER IN THE CAR IT HAPPENED AGAIN. FROM WHAT I'VE READ, THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON THESE VEHICLES, AND HAD I KNOWN THAT AT THE TIME I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE. IT IS UNSAFE NOT ONLY FOR THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER OF THE CARS, BUT ALSO ANYONE THAT JUST HAPPENS TO BE AROUND WHEN IT HAPPENS!! I CONSIDER MYSELF TO BE A STRONG PERSON, AND I HAVE BEEN DRIVING ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED, AND I COULD BARELY GET THE CAR SAFELY PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I CANNOT AFFORD TO SPEND $600 FOR A REPAIR WHEN IT IS A FAULTY PART THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR!! *TR

I HAVE A 2004 MALIBU MAXX AND I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND LOST MY POWER STEERING IN THE VEHICLE WHILE EXITING ON A RAMP THAT TURNED 360 DEGREES... I SUDDENLY HAD TO FIGHT WITH ALL MY MIGHT TO KEEP THE CAR ON THE ROAD AND NEARLY CRASHED. I'VE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE AND IT IS A HIGHLY KNOWN ISSUE ON THE INTERNET. IF I TURN OFF THE CAR AND RESTART IT MOMENTS LATER IT WILL WORK FOR A WHILE THEN FAIL AGAIN UNEXPECTEDLY... DANGEROUS!!! VERY DANGEROUS! WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE EXPRESSWAY,MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT MY CAR OFF AND STARTED IT UP AGAIN AND IT STARTED WORKING AGAIN.GM HAS RECALLED OTHER MODELS FOR DOING THE SAME THING,BUT NOT THE 2004 MALIBU. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SOMEBODY IS GOING TO GET KILLED UNLESS GM TAKES CARE OF THIS PROBLEM. THE 2004 CHEVY. MALIBU HAS ELECTRIC ASSISTED POWER STEERING. THE THING IS THAT GM,THE DEALERS AND NHTSA ALL KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM,BUT ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING UNTIL PEOPLE ARE HURT AND KILLED. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND HAVE TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER AND WOULD NOT ALLOW THE CONTACT TO MAKE A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN. THE VEHICLE THEN STARTED TO JERK VIOLENTLY. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE DEALER OR MANUFACTURER NOR WAS THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHILE SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY WAS ADJUSTING THE SEAT FOR ME TO DRIVE THEN THE SEAT DROPPED DOWN AND NOW LEANS TO THE RIGHT AND ROCKS BACK AND FORTH WHEN GOING OVER ANY BUMPS AT ANY SPEED. FRONT WELD OF THE DRIVER SEAT BROKE, CAUSING THE SEAT TO SOMETIMES LEAN TOWARDS THE FRONT RIGHT. WE TOOK IT TO CHEVY, ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE SEAT AND DO A STATE INSPECTION. THEY SAID THAT THEY DIDNT KNOW WHAT IT WAS AND HAD TO PULL THE SEAT OUT. THEY THEN TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD BE $1,000 TO REPAIR THE SEAT, THEN TOLD ME IT WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION WITHOUT REPAIRING THE SEAT. WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR, MORE WELDS HAD BROKEN AND THE SEAT WOBBLED A LOT. THEY TOLD ME THAT IF I PUT THE SEAT IN THE TOTALLY DOWN POSITION THAT IT WOULD NOT WOBBLE. NOW I AM LOOKING ONLINE AND SEE THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT BROKEN WELDS ON THE SEAT. I HOPE THAT THERE WILL BE AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS ISSUE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND COULD CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE DRIVER IF CAR WAS IN AN ACCIDENT. JM

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE TO BE TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED IN ORDER FOR THE POWER STEERING TO RESET. THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT WOULD THEN BE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE A FAILURE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN, BUT THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 155,069. THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF AND WHEN RESTARTED, THE POWER STEERING WAS RESET AND THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED IN REGARDS TO THE FAILURE. MY 2004 MALIBU HAS A INTERMITTENT LOSS OF POWER STEERING CONTROL. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD " NOTHING SHOWS UP ON THE COMPUTER ". NOW THE PROBLEM IS OCCURRING EVERY DAY. A CHECK ON LINE SHOWS THAT THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM THAT G.M. WILL NOT ADDRESS. THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 45 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL ALL THE SUDDEN DROPPED ALL THE WAY DOWN AND THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN SLID IN CAUSING THE CAR TO SWERVE SOME. I PULLED OVER AND AFTER ATTEMPTING TO LOCK THE STEERING COLUMN BACK INTO PLACE WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET IT TO LOCK INTO PLACE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE PAST MONTH. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF I'M DRIVING OR BACKING IT JUST ALL THE SUDDEN DOES IT. IF YOU TOUCH THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE THE CAR IS TURNED OFF IT WILL DROP DOWN. AND IF IT IS IN A DOWN POSITION IT WILL SLIDE IN AND OUT. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I FEAR THAT THE NEXT TIME I MIGHT NOT BE SO LUCK TO KEEP CONTROL. I ALMOST HIT ANOTHER CAR YESTERDAY WHEN I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE BECAUSE AS I WAS TURNING TO WHEEL IT MOVED OUT OF POSITION CAUSING THE TURN TO GO ANOTHER DIRECTION.
I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY MALIBU LT. WITHOUT WARNING ONE DAY WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE DASH TOOL LIGHT CAME ON, CHIMES STARTED RINGING AND MY DASH BOARD READ POWER STEERING. I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR. COULD NOT STEER IT ANY LONGER. THANKFULLY I WAS NOT TRAVELING FAST STOPPED THE CAR. TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED IT AGAIN. THE CAR DROVE FINE FOR ABOUT ONE MILE. I STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT AND THE STEERING WHEEL STARTING A JERKING MOTION ON IT OWN. I FINALLY GOT THE CAR HOME AND THE LIGHTS AND CHIMES WENT OFF AGAIN AND I LOST STEERING AGAIN. I CAN NOT DRIVE THE CAR ANY LONGER BECAUSE I AM TERRIFIED I WILL BE DRIVING AND LOSE STEERING AGAIN. WHEN I JUST START THE CAR NOW THE WHEEL WILL START THE JERKING MOTION AGAIN WHILE JUST SITTING THERE AND IF I PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE THE WARNING LIGHT AND CHIMES COME BACK ON AND IT DISPLAYS POWER STEERING AGAIN ON THE DASH. I HAVE READ TONS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT. I HAVE CONTACTED OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP IN TOWN ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND JUST FOR THE PART THAT MIGHT FIX IT IS $738 AND THIS MORNING I WAS QUOTED $455 JUST FOR THE EPS, $177 RACKON PINION AND $115 FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC. I PAID ALMOST $10,000 FOR THIS CAR ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. ONE OF THE DEALERSHIPS HERE WON'T EVEN TOUCH THE CAR BECAUSE THEY HAVE SEEN TOO MANY THAT HAVE COME BACK 6 MONTHS LATER WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. SO I ASK GM NOW, WHAT AM I SUPPOSE TO DO WITH A 2000 LB. PAPER WEIGHT PARKED IN MY GARAGE? SOME ONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE AND NO ONE WANTS TO DO A THING ABOUT IT!!! HOW MANY LIVES NEED TO BE LOST BEFORE GM OR DOT DOES SOMETHING? MY TAX DOLLARS BAILED OUT GM AND THIS IS THE WAY I AM GOING TO BE TREATED NOW? THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

THE POWER STEERING INTERMITTENTLY GOES OUT AND WHEN TURNING THERE ARE LOUD CLUNKING SOUNDS. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES AND HAS ALMOST CAUSED MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS. CURRENTLY WE DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR OFTEN BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY CONCERNS. *TR

MY 2004 MALIBU SEDAN WITH ONLY 29330 MILES ON IT HAD THE POWER STEERING GO OUT SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING AND BECAME ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER IT. THE GM DEALERSHIP I TOOK IT TO SAID IT'S BEEN INVESTIGATED BUT NOT RECALLED ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE CORRECTED THE PROBLEM IN NEWER CARS BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE IN TOWN AND MOVING SLOW BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR PROBLEM IF I HAD BEEN GOING 50-60 MI PER HOUR DOWN THE HIGHWAY. IT'S A $600.00 REPAIR TO HAVE IT FIXED. I THINK IF CARS WITH LOW USE LIKE MINE HAVE THIS PROBLEM THEN GM SHOULD RECALL AND REIMBURSE THE REPAIR. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT SUDDENLY SHIFTED FORWARD AND DOWN WHILE DRIVING. INSPECTION REVEALED BROKEN WELD ON SEAT FRAME. *TR

THE CAR HAD BEEN DRIVING FINE FOR THE WHOLE DAY. I MAYBE HAVE PUT ABOUT 15 MILES ON WHEN I WENT TO MAKE A TURN GOING ABOUT 30 - 35 MPH. THE STEERING WHEEL TIGHTENED UP. I DROVE ABOUT 3 MILES STRAIGHT WITH NO TURNS AND THE STEERING WHEEL WENT BACK TO NORMAL. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO ME ON THE FREEWAY ALSO. ONCE I GET OVER 60MPH THE STEERING WHEEL TIGHTENS UP ON ME. I PULLED OVER ONCE BEFORE AND IT RETURNED TO IT NORMAL SELF AGAIN AND STARTED ACTING UP WHEN I GOT BACK ON THE FREEWAY. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND GM SHOULD LOOK AT FIXING THIS PROBLEM. IT ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT HERE ONCE. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM YET. I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR A WEEK AGO WITH NO WARRANTY AND IT WAS NOT HAPPENING WHEN I TEST DROVE THE CAR. POWER STEERING COLUMN IS ABOUT TO FAIL FOR THE THIRD TIME. FIRST TIME AT 45,000 MILES, SECOND TIME AT 83,000, NOW AT 169,000. *TR
THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT LAST YEAR AND I HAD THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACE (THAT'S WHAT THEY SAID WAS WRONG) NOW HERE IT IS 14 MONTHS LATER AND IT'S OUT AGAIN. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT EVEN TO THE SHOP. IT HAS TO BE SOME KIND OF DEFECTIVE PART BY CHEVY BASED ON THE MASSIVE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS I SEE ON THE WEB ABOUT THIS. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE MADE A CLUNKING, KNOCKING AND RATTLING SOUND WHEN DRIVEN AT A LOW GRADE SPEED AND WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED. THE VEHICLE ALSO SHOOK VIOLENTLY. THE DRIVER SEAT DIDN'T TO STAY ON TRACK AND WAS DIFFICULT TO ADJUST FORWARD AND BACKWARD. THE HORN AND CRUISE CONTROL WERE INOPERATIVE. THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS NO LONGER ADJUSTED. THE SAFETY LOCKS DID NOT LATCH AT TIMES WHEN THE BUTTON WAS PUSHED AND THE GAS CAP CONTINUED TO OPEN AFTER IT WAS LOCKED CAUSING THE ENGINE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. UPDATED 02/01/12
I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY MALIBU (NEW BODY STYLE). I HAVE BEEN HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING. LAST WEEK I WAS DRIVING AND ABOUT TO TURN AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP ON ME. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT TO UNLOCKED IT. THEN TODAY I STARTED THE CAR AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT MOVE I HAVE TO TURN IT OFF AND RESTART IT TO UNLOCK IT. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AND MY DEALER SAYS THEIR IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. I HAVE AS ON TODAY 45484 MILES ON THIS CAR AND NEVER BEEN IN A WRECK. THE THEFT SYSTEM AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGES RANDOMLY WHEN IGNITION IS ATTEMPTED. RESET WITH KEY IN ON POSITION FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE CAR TO START. CAN HAPPEN MULTIPLE TIMES PER DAY, REGARDLESS OF WEATHER OR PARKING CONDITIONS. REPLACED IGNITION IN 2013 AND COMPUTER IN 2011 WITH NO CHANGE IN ISSUE TO A DETRIMENT OF OVER $1,000.00. OCCASIONALLY PRESSING GAS WHEN IGNITION FIRST CATCHES WILL ROUTE THE ISSUE, BUT NOT ALWAYS. THEFT LIGHT ALSO NOW STAYS ON REGARDLESS OF A SUCCESSFUL FIRST START OR NOT. NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT IS FRUSTRATING TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN WHEN YOU NEED TO GET ON THE ROAD FOR WORK OR EVEN AN EMERGENCY! *TR
