STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT REPLACED 06/29/07. *TR
CAR LEASED BRAND NEW IN AUGUST 2004. AS OF TODAY ON UNE 28,2007 CAR HAD BRAKES REPAIRED 4 TIMES AT THE DEALER. ROTORS HAVE BEEN MACHINED EACH TIME, AND TODAY BRAKE PADS REPLACED..CAR HAS 27,180 MILES ON IT, AND IT HAS BEEN MAINTAINED,GARAGED, KEPT, AND NO ONE HAS BEEN ROUGH ON THE BRAKES. THE LAST TIME WE HAD THE CAR TO DEALER FOR BRAKE PROBLEMS WAS JULY OF LAST YEAR. AT THAT TIME WE WERE TOLD THAT A BRAKE LINE WAS CRIMPED AND ONLY FOUND IT BECAUSE WE WERE HAVING TIRES ROTATED. ALSO, TOLD THAT THIS WAS THE LAST TIME ROTORS COULD BE MACHINED. WELL TODAY THEY MACHINED THEM ONCE AGAIN AS I HAD SAID PREVIOUSLY FOR THE FOURTH TIME. I DID SOME RESEARCH ,AND I MAY BE WRONG BUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE CAR FOR ABS PROBLEMS IN APRIL 2004 PRIOR TO OUR PURCHASE OF THE CAR.. I CALLED GM , AND WAS TOLD THAT OUR CAR WAS INVOLVED, BUT WAS LATER TOLD BY OWNER OF DEALERSHIP THAT THERE HAD BEEN A COMMUNICATION ERROR AND OUR CAR WAS INVOLVED IN ANOTHER RECALL CONCERNING SEAT BELTS OR SOMETHING ALONG THOSE LINES. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE BRAKES AT THIS POINT AFTER SO MANY CONFLICTING STORIES..I FEEL VERY FRUSTATED, AND HAD TO SPEND ALMOST $500.00 BECAUSE THE BRAKE PADS WERE NOT COVERED UNDER THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY AS THEY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PREVIOUS ROTOR/BRAKELINE PROBLEMS OR SO I WAS TOLD..WE HAD COMPUTOR SENSOR PROBLEMS,SHORT SOCKETS ON BOTH REAL TURN SIGNALS, LOOSE TIE ROD, IGNITION PROBLEMS ,WHICH THEY COULD NOT DETECT..FAULTY GAS CAP ETC. *AK
I HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH MY CAR A CLUNKING SOUND IN THE TIRE AREA WHEN MAKING TURNS. THIS IS THE 4TH TIME I HAVE HAD MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE ON THIS SAME ISSUE.
WE BOUGHT THE CAR USED WITH 34,000 MILES ON IT IN 3/2006.THERE WAS A CLUNKING IN THE STEERING WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN ON 12/2007 WITH 66,000 MILES. THE CLUNKING WAS STILL THERE AND WE WERE TOLD THAT THIS IS NORMAL. SINCE THEN THE STEERING HAS GOTTEN WORSE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS TRIED TO FIND THE PROBLEM BUT SAYS IT CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG. YET SOMETIMES THE STEERING WILL LOCKUP AT LOW SPEED WHEN BACKING UP OR TURNING WHILE STOPPED. IT HAS NOT DONE THIS WHILE DRIVING AT ROAD SPEED (OR I WOULD NOT DRIVE IT). HOWEVER AT ROAD SPEED THE STEERING IS VERY VAGUE. IT REQUIRES AN ALMOST QUARTER TURN OF THE STEERING WHEEL TO GET THE CAR TO RESPOND TO A STEERING INPUT TO TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. THIS IS NOT SAFE. THERE IS ALSO WARNING LIGHTS THAT COME ON THE DASH, AND WARNING BELLS THAT SOUND, AND SOMETIMES THEY GO BACK OFF OTHER TIMES CAR NEEDS TO SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED AND IT IS OK THEN. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON MOST OF THE TIME, AGAIN DEALERSHIP CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. SOMETIMES THE WHOLE DASH CLUSTER GOES OUT, THE CAR STAYS RUNNING AND THEY COME BACK ON AFTER A TIME AND AGAIN IF YOU CUT OFF AND RESTART THE CAR IT IS OK AGAIN FOR A WHILE. THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS 150,000 ON IT AND I HAVE AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC CHECKING IT OVER TO SEE IF HE CAN FIND THE PROBLEM. THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP CAN'T FIND WHAT IS WRONG TO FIX IT, OR SO THEY SAY. *TR
VEHICLE STARTED TO DRIVE HARD/LOUD AFTER THE FIRST YEAR. VEHICLE AT DEALER FOR PROBLEMS WITH LIGHTS FOUND PROBLEM WITH STEERING RACK AND LEAKING SEAL AT THE AXEL SHAFT. REPLACED STEERING RACK AND FIX SEAL ALSO REPLACE BRAKES. PROBLEM WITH GAS CAP WHICH LEAD TO A SERIES OF PROBLEMS INCLUDING NEED TO REPLACE A THROTTLE BODY AND THEN THE TRANSMISSION. TRADED VEHICLE DECEMBER 2007 WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER CHEVROLET. 2004 MALIBU WAS PURCHASED NEW IN FEBRUARY 2004 WITH ONLY 7 MILES. *TR
TRYING TO START THE CAR, THE CAR SOMETIMES DOESN'T START. YOU CAN HEAR IT TURNING OVER BUT IT JUST DOESN'T START. YOU CAN TRY AND TRY AND THEN, MAGICALLY, IT JUST STARTS. THEN, YOU TRY LATER AND IT STARTS AS IF THERE ISN'T A PROBLEM. IT IS INCREDIBLY UNRELIABLE, UNPREDICTABLE AND FRUSTRATING AS THERE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE A PATTERN FOR THE CAR NOT STARTING. *TR
PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES, I HAVE TO REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS EVERY 2-3 MONTHS AND HAVE THE ROTORS TURNED AS WELL FOR THERE IS A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND FRONT END IF NOT TURNED. I WAS TOLD MY DEALERSHIP THAT THE ROTORS ARE NO GOOD FOR THE CAR AND THAT GM IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT REFUSES TO CORRECT IT. *TR
THE HORN ON MY VEHICLE FAILED. THIS LED TO A NEAR COLLISION AS I WAS UNABLE TO UTILIZE THE HORN TO ALERT THE OTHER DRIVER TO MY PRESENCE. I TOOK MY 2004 MALIBU TO MY MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE FUSE. THE HORN WORKED FOR ABOUT A DAY AND THEN WHEN BEING OPERATED BY ANOTHER DRIVER, HE TRIED TO USE THE HORN WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE RAN A RED LIGHT AND THE HORN DID NOT WORK. PER THE MECHANIC THE FUSE BLEW AGAIN. HE RAN A CHECK ON SERVICE NOTICES FOR THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT CONDENSATION FORMS IN THE LOCATION OF THE HORN DUE TO A KNOWN DEFECT IN THE LOCATION. GM IS AWARE OF THIS, BUT HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL EVEN THOUGH THE MECHANIC STATES THAT IT CAUSES THE HORN TO QUIT SUDDENLY AND THE AVERAGE CONSUMER WILL BELIEVE IT IS THE FUSE, REPAIR THAT ONLY TO HAVE THE HORN FAIL AGAIN WITHIN DAYS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. ON MAY 15, 2007, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE FENDER. THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT FAILED TO SECURE THE CONTACT AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. HE SUFFERED AN INJURY FROM STRIKING THE STEERING WHEEL AND WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE CONTACT HAS A POLICE REPORT. THE ENGINE SIZE AND SPEED AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 16,500.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AT 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE'S STEERING WHEEL FELT LOOSE, AS IF IT COULD KEEP TURNING NONSTOP. HOWEVER, THE CONTACT HAD DIFFICULTY WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE MOTOR INSIDE THE STEERING COLUMN FAILED AND WAS A VERY COMMON FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 51,400. THE CONSUMER STATES THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONSUMER STATED WANTS TO REIMBURSED FOR REPAIRS. UPDATED 06/06/07 *TR
THE LEFT FRONT TURN SIGNAL HAD TO BE REPLACED AROUND 9 TIMES IN THE THREE YEARS I HAVE OWNED THE CAR. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING A RECURRING FAILURE IN WHICH THE POWER STEERING WOULD FAIL AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. WHENEVER THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE WOULD BE NAVIGATED TO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND SHUT OFF. AFTER ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO COOL DOWN IT WOULD RESTART AND FUNCTION NORMALLY. DURING THE FAILURE, A POWER STEERING SERVICE LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURRED DURING WARM WEATHER AND THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED THE BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S EXTERIOR FRONT TURN SIGNAL CONSISTENTLY FAILS. THE VEHICLE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 46,793 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,532.
TL-CALLER IS LEASING A 2004 CHEVROLET MAILBU. CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE 48000. WHILE DRIVING AT 3MH AND ATTEMPTING TO ENTER TRAFFIC,THE CAR DIED WITH NO WARNING. STEERING FROZE. SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND TOOK IT TO DEALER LATER THAT DAY. THE STEERING WAS REPLACED HOWEVER THE ENGINE PROBLEM WAS A MYSTERY TO THEM. WEATHER WAS DRY TEMPERATURE UNKNOWN. THE VEHICLE HAS BOTH MANUAL AND AUTOMATIC. KTF
THE WELD BROKE ON THE DRIVER'S SEAT MOUNTING BRACKET. THERE WAS NO ABUSE OF THE SEAT TO CAUSE THIS TO FAIL. IT DID NOT CAUSE CRASH OR INJURY. THE DRIVERS SEAT MOUNTING BRACKET WAS REPLACED. *TR
THE DRIVERS FRONT SEAT LEANS TO RIGHT WHEN TILTED HAVE TO KEEP ALL THE WAY DOWN SO IT DOESN'T WOBBLE. THE WELD ON THE SEAT FRAME BROKE CAUSING IT TO LEAN TO THE RIGHT AND BE UNSTABLE. ALSO POWER STEERING WILL RANDOMLY STOP WORKING IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. YOU HAVE TO SHUT THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON TO GET POWER STEERING BACK. DEALER SAID THEY RECALLED THE ISSUE BEFORE WE BOUGHT THE CAR AND IT IS BACK AGAIN SAME ISSUE NOW ITS APPARENTLY NOT COVERED SINCE THEY SAID THEY FIXED IT BEEN HAPPENING FOR A FEW YEARS NOW. *TR
SEVER VIBRATION WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. ONE ROTOR WAS CHANGED WHILE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY. NOW THERE IS 50,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND NO WARRANTY AND THE PROBLEM IS BACK. THIS WAS A PROBLEM THE DEALER WAS AWARE OF AND SHOULD HAVE REPLACED THE OTHER ROTOR ALSO.
THE TURN SIGNAL LENS A PART OF THE FRONT HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY IS APPARENTLY MELTING FROM HEAT CAUSED BY THE TURN SIGNAL LIGHT BULB. THE LENS IS MOUNTED INSIDE OF THE CLEAR HEADLAMP LENS AND IS MADE OUT OF AMBER COLORED PLASTIC. THIS MELTING IS OCCURRING ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE AND HAS CAUSED SEVERAL LIGHT BULB MALFUNCTIONS TO OCCUR. THIS PROBLEM NOT ONLY CAUSES THE FAILURE OF THE TURN SIGNAL BULB BUT ALSO CREATES THE POTENTIAL FOR A FIRE TO BREAK OUT. *TR
POWER STEERING WAS DISPLAYED ON MESSAGE CENTER AND A LIGHT WITH VEHICLE AND WRENCH CAME ON FOR A SHORT PERIOD. DIAGNOSTICS WERE PERFORMED AND FOUND CODE CC0460. THIS WAS TRACED TO A SHORTED STEERING SENSOR. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN BECAUSE THE SENSOR IS PART OF THE ASSEMBLY. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE POWER STEERING LIGHT BEING DISPLAYED ON THE MESSAGE CENTER AND THEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON THE CAR. MY POWER STEERING DID NOT GO OUT ON THE CAR BECAUSE I DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP RIGHT AWAY. I WAS WONDERING IF THERE IS A RECALL OR SERVICE BULLETINS ON THIS PROBLEM TO OFF SET THE COST OF REPAIRS FOR THE SENSOR, WHICH HAS TO BE REPLACED WITH A WHOLE STEERING COLUMN, FOR A TOTAL OF $850.12 IN PARTS AND LABOR. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING LOCKED UP AND WAS UNABLE TO MANEUVER PROPERLY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO CLAIMED TO KNOW THE CAUSE OF FAILURE, BUT DID NOT HAVE TIME TO MAKE THE REPAIR. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
MY WIFE AND BOUGHT A 2004 CHEVY MALIBU IN JULY 2004. IN MARCH 2007 MY TURN SIGNALS BEGAN TO FAIL, BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES. ALSO, THE RIGHT SIDE AMBER COVER ON THE RUNNING LIGHTS HAS A HOLE BURNT IN THE TOP OF IT AND THE LEFT SIDE IS BEGINNING TO BURN THRU NOW. I REPLACED SEVERAL BULBS AND ALSO TOOK IT THE DEALERSHIP THAT WE PURCHASED IT FROM; THE FIRST TIME THEY REPLACED THE BULBS AND THE TURN SIGNALS WORKED FOR ABOUT 1 HOUR AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK AND WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO HAVE THE SOCKETS REPLACED, THE SOCKETS WERE REPLACED AND EVERYTHING WORKED FINE FOR 2 MONTHS AND THE PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN, SO BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP I WENT AND THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO HAVE BOTH COMPLETE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLIES REPLACED. THERE'S OBVIOUSLY A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES. SOONER OR LATER THIS SITUATION WILL RESULT IN A FIRE AND POSSIBLY BODILY INJURIES AND PROPERTY DAMAGE. WHAT IS GOING TO TAKE BEFORE GM WAKE UP? THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE.... *TR
AROUND 40,000 MILES ON ODOMETER, A THUNK COULD BE HEARD WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL LEFT. DEALERSHIP WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED COULD NOT DETERMINE CAUSE. AT 45,000 MILES ON ODOMETER, TOOK VEHICLE TO 2ND DEALERSHIP WHO KNEW OF A TECHNICAL BULLETIN - RACK AND PINION STEERING UNIT WAS FAILING. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE TRAVELING 70 MPH THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS HAD APPEARED ON DASHBOARD AND THAT THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECREASE IN SPEED. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE, RESTARTED IT AND NOTICED THAT THE FAILURE HAD CORRECTED ITSELF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPRODUCED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IN FEBRUARY OF 2007, THE EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD LOSE POWER INTERMITTENTLY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50-60 MPH, THE EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR LIGHTS LOST POWER AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. SHE TURNED OFF AND PARKED THE VEHICLE FOR A WHILE AND EVENTUALLY THE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. APPROXIMATELY A YEAR LATER, SHE DROVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER DUE TO THE EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR LIGHTS LOSING POWER INTERMITTENTLY. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED A MONTH LATER. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THEY WERE NOT LIABLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 112,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000.
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX LT. THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE LEFT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, IT WAS MUCH WORSE WHEN DRIVING 70 MPH. WHEN DRIVING WITH LEFT HAND THE STEERING WHEEL THE WHEEL PUSHES THE HAND THE LEFT AND THE VEHICLE WENT TO THE LEFT. THE MECHANIC PERFORMED AN ALIGNMENT, BUT HAD INDICATED THAT THE ALIGNMENT WAS WITHIN FACTORY SPECS. THE MECHANIC STATED THEY COULD TRY TO ADJUST THE CASTOR, BUT NOT TO FACTORY SPECS. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR AFTER THE ALIGNMENT WAS FINISHED AND BECAME WORSE. THERE WERE NO BULLETINS ON THIS VEHICLE . HOWEVER, THERE WERE ON 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU, NOT FOR THE MAXX THAT RELATED TO THIS FAILURE ,PER THE CONTACT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 6400. *AK
FRONT TURN SIGNALS HAVE BURNED OUT NUMEROUS TIMES. THE PLASTIC HOUSING FOR THE BULBS HAS MELTED THROUGH. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE 2004 MALIBU. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY MALIBU. IN JANUARY 2007 I NOTICED A CLUNKING NOISE WHICH COULD BE FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN I WAS TURNING. ON 02/07/2007 I TOOK THE CAR TO A CHEVY DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE STEERING GEARPART NUMBER: 15858368, AND ANOTHER GEAR, PART NUMBER: 06508. ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO I NOTICED THE PROBLEM HAD RETURNED, THE CAR NOW HAS 39,000 MILES ON IT. SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS AS I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS AND NUMEROUS PEOPLE, SUCH AS MYSELF, REPORTING MULTIPLE FAILURES. NOW THAT THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT OUT OF POCKET TO FIX A CHEVROLET DEFECT, NOT TO MENTION THE OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
TL* - THE CONTACT HAS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU LS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN SHE TURNED THE IGNITION ON THE ENHANCED TRACTION SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT, THE ENGINE LIGHT, AND THE SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR WOULD START AND ALL OF THE DASHBOARD FEATURES WOULD WORK, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO THE REVERSE OR DRIVE GEARS. THE CONTACT STATED SHE COULD PUT THE CAR IN THE DRIVE GEAR AND IT WOULD NOT DRIVE. THE CAR BEGAN TO JERK AND SHAKE WITHOUT THE CONTACT ADDING PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, AND THE RPM LEVEL INCREASED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE VEERS TO THE RIGHT DUE TO STEERING FAILURE, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATE AND DIM AT RANDOM, AND THE STARTER ON THE VEHICLE WAS MALFUNCTIONING. THE FAILURES GENERALLY OCCUR WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH. THE MAIN FAILURE, HOWEVER, IS THAT THE VEHICLE FAILS TO START OCCASIONALLY. WHEN SHE STARTS THE VEHICLE, IT SOUNDS AS IF IT IS ATTEMPTING TO ENGAGE, BUT NEVER DOES. THE VEHICLE ALSO MAKES A CRANKING SOUND. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER APPROXIMATELY 8-10 TIMES. THE DEALER WILL MAKE A REPAIR, BUT THE FAILURES ALWAYS CONTINUE. THE VIN AND ENGINE SIZE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 39,900 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING SPOT, I RECEIVED A WARNING CHIME AND NOTICED A STEERING WARNING NOTE ON THE DIGITAL DISPLAY. AFTER CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON, THE NOTICE WAS NOT PRESENT AND STEERING WAS NORMAL. ON SEVERAL OTHER OCCASIONS, THE STEERING WOULD REPEAT THIS SITUATION BUT IT WOULD DO IT IN NO APPARENT REGULAR DRIVING STATE, IE, COULD BE GOING DOWN ROAD AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR JUST MANEUVERING INTO A PARKING SPOT. ALWAYS WOULD RETURN TO NORMAL AFTER A CYCLE OF THE IGNITION KEY AND COULD BE MONTHS BEFORE A REPEAT EVENT. SOMETIMES THE EVENT WOULD SEEM TO REDUCE STEERING POWER BUT NOT REMOVE ALL ASSIST AND AT OTHER TIMES THE STEERING ASSIST WOULD BE COMPLETELY REMOVED. *TR
ROTORS REPEATEDLY WARP. HAVE HAD THE BRAKES SERVICED TWICE WITHIN THE 24000 WARRANTY FOR BRAKES AND IT IS REQUIRING A THIRD SERVICE AT 26,000 MILES OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY. ROTORS WOULD NEED TO BE RECUT OR REPLACED EVERY 4,000 MILES ON THIS CAR TO ELIMINATE THE PULSATION. THERE IS A SYSTEMATIC ISSUE WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM, INCLUDING THE ABS AND/OR THE TRACTION CONTROL. THIS IS NOT A MATERIAL OR SERVICE ISSUE, BUT A DESIGN ISSUE. THE DEALER HAS INDICATED THAT ALL SYSTEMS ON THE CAR ARE WORKING PROPERLY AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO OTHER THAN RECUT OR REPLACE THE ROTORS. GENERAL MOTORS HAS DENIED THERE IS A PROBLEM WHICH IS EXPECTED POSSIBLY FACING A RECALL OF MANY CARS. ALTHOUGH THE DEALER UNOFFICIALLY ADMITTED THIS PROBLEM IS A REGULAR AT THEIR FACILITY NO ONE WILL OFFICIALLY ADMIT THIS IS AN ISSUE. NOW THAT THE BRAKES ARE OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY AT 26,000 MILES, I AM FORCED TO PAY FOR THE SERVICE EVERY 4,000 MILES ON MY OWN. THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE ALTHOUGH THE BRAKES HAVE NEVER FAILED TO WORK. THE AFFECT OF THE DESIGN ISSUE IS THAT THE BRAKES PULSATE AND PROGRESSIVELY GET WORSE AS TIME GOES ON. EVEN AFTER A FEW THOUSAND MILES THE DEFECT BEGINS TO SURFACE. BY 4,000 MILES IT IS A BIG ENOUGH NUISANCE TO HAVE IT SERVICED. THIS IS AN EXPENSE I HAD NOT BARGAINED FOR WHEN I BOUGHT THIS CAR. *NM

COOLANT LOW INDICATOR CAME ON DASH BOARD. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP WAS ADVISED COOLANT LEAKING ON GASKET. PARTS WERE REPLACED, ENGINE LIGHT THEN CAME ON NEXT DAY TOOK CAR BACK WAS ADVISED NEEDED TO ORDER PART FOR CATALYTIC CONVERTER. PARTS STILL HAVEN'T CAME IN AND ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON. WAS TOLD THE MALIBU HAS A COMPLEX EXHAUST SYSTEM. *NM
AFTER ONE YEAR OF DRIVING OUR 2004 MALIBU (ABOUT 20, 000 MILES), THE SIGNAL LIGHTS BEGAN FAILING. REPLACEMENT OF THE BULBS BY A GM DEALER SOLVED EACH PROBLEM (4 INCIDENTS). THEN ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO THE RIGHT FRONT SIGNAL REVEALED AN ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE WIRING HARNESS, WHICH WAS REPLACED AT OUR EXPENSE. TODAY THE LEFT REAR SIGNAL SOCKET AND HARNESS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURING OR DESIGN DEFECT IN THE SIGNAL LIGHT SYSTEM. *NM
AUTO: 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU LS - FRONT TURN SIGNAL-DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT MELTED A HOLE IN THE AMBER LENS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR. GRAND PRIZE CHEVROLET OF MIAMI REPLACED BOTH HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY'S . HAVE SEEN OTHER MALIBUS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND I AM TRYING TO FIND OUT IF THIS IS GOING TO BE A RECURRING PROBLEM. I HAVE NOTICED THAT ON NEWER MODELS THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ARE NOW THE HEADLIGHTS INSTEAD OF THE TURN SIGNAL LAMPS. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS AND INTERIOR LIGHTS WENT OUT. THE CONTACT HAD TO HOLD THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH UP ALL THE WAY TO KEEP THE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. LATER, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE TAIL LIGHTS STAYED ILLUMINATED ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF, AND THE BATTERY HAD TO BE DISCONNECTED TO SHUT THE TAIL LIGHTS OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SEEN BY A DEALER.

CONSUMER STATES THAT THIS FAILURE OCCURS WITHOUT ANY WARNING AND SOMETIMES THE POWER STEERING LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED IN ORDER TO REGAIN POWER STEERING, HE MUST PULL OVER AND RE-START THE VEHICLE. THE FIRST TIME THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, THEY STATED IT NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED OR RECALIBRATED, WHICH DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THE SECOND TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE DEALER REPLACED THE POWER STEERING GEAR AND INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT DUE TO A NOISE BEING HEARD WHEN MAKING TURNS AND ACCELERATING. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE WITH A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. AFTER RESTARTING THE IGNITION, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TWICE AND EACH TIME THE POWER STEERING MODULE WAS REPLACED. IN ADDITION, A CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE POWER STEERING MODULE TWICE. THE STEERING MALFUNCTION RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MOST RECENT FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000.
LOSS OF POWER STEERING IN MY 2004 MALIBU. HAD STEERING SYSTEM REPLACED BY RECALL 05, SINCE THEN, THE STEERING STARTING MAKING NOISE, HAD TO HAVE STEERING RODS ADJUSTED, NOW I HAD TO REPLACE THE STEERING GEAR AT COST OF $495.00. WE NEEDED THE DRIVERS SEAT AIR BAG SENSOR RE-SET. AFTER GETTING THE CAR BACK FROM THE SERVICE CENTER WE NOTICED THE SEAT DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. IT WOULD GO BACK AND FORTH BUT NOT UP AND DOWN. THE SEAT ROCKS WHILE SITTING IN IT. WE TOLD THE SERVICE CENTER AND THEY SAID IT COULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED WHEN THEY REPAIRED THE SENSOR AND IT WOULD COST APPROX $700 TO REPAIR. THE DRIVER'S SEAT TILTS TO THE RIGHT. IF I PULL THE SEAT UP BEFORE GETTING IN THE CAR IT IS OKAY UNTIL I HIT THE BRAKES OR THE GAS, THEN THE SEAT WILL JUST DROP. WHICH CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IF A LESS EXPERIENCED PERSON WAS DRIVING. THE SEAT HAS BEEN LIKE THIS FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS. I FINALLY GOT FED AND ASKED MY MECHANIC TO SEE IF HE COULD POSSIBLY PUT IT BACK ON TRACK BUT HE ADVISED THAT THE FRAME IS BROKEN. THESE RECALL REPAIRS STATE THAT THEY AFFECT THE SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE AND YET WE ARE FORCED TO DRIVE A VEHICLE WITH POSSIBLE LIFE THREATENING ISSUES WHILE THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. THE SAFETY ISSUES ASIDE, THE RECALLS AFFECT THE VALUE OF THIS PRODUCT BY THE IMPLICATION IT'S DEFECTIVE. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TRADED MY SATURN VUE FOR THE 2004 MALIBU MAXX. WHEN I TEST DROVE THE CAR, AFTER THE ACCELERATION REACHED 4RPMS, THERE WAS A HIGH PITCHED WHINE FROM THE ENGINE CLOSEST TO THE TIRE. THEY LOOKED AT IT AND SAID THAT IT WAS A LOOSE BELT. SO I BOUGHT THE CAR AND THEY SAID TO BRING IT THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP TO GET IT FIXED. I TOOK IT IN AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM SO I HAD TO RIDE WITH THEM. ALSO, MY SEAT HEATERS WERE TURNING ON AUTOMATICALLY, CAR CONSTINTLY PULLS TO THE RIGHT, I HAVE TO TURN THE KEY OVER FOR A LONG TIME TO GET THE CAR TO FULLY START UP.
