OWN 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. POWER STEERING FAILS OCASSIONALLY. PRESENTS DANGEROUS SITUATION UPON FAILURE. STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED ONE WEEK AGO BUT PROBLEM REMAINS. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT ANY SPEED, THERE IS A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE STEERING SHAFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND REPAIR. HOWEVER, AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND THE DEALER DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WAS THE STEERING SHAFT, THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT CURRENTLY NO REPAIRS COULD BE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS DUE TO THE MANUFACTURER NOT HAVING A REMEDY OR TSB TO THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY WERE AWARE THE PROBLEM EXISTED. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED THE CONTACT SHOULD CONTINUE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND NO REPAIRS WERE MADE.
2004 MALIBU MAXX - AFTER CAR TURNED 25,000 MILES, WOULD START TO BE SLUGGISH UPON SLOW ACCELERATION BETWEEN 35 - 40 MPH. HAPPENING MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY AS CAR APPROACH 30,000 MILES. LEFT VEHICLE WITH DEALERSHIP IN FEBRUARY 06. PROBLEM WAS IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE 3-4 VALVES WERE BURNED, AS WAS THE BAN, AND THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE FOR REPAIRS, BUT THE PROBLEM REOCCURS. THE DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED HOWEVER, NO ADDITIONAL REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE.
TOOK MAXX TO DEALER FOR CLICKING NOISE IN STEERING COLUMN AND THUMPING NOISE IN REAR OF VEHICLE UPON DECELERATION. WAS ADVISED THAT THE CLICKING NOISE HAD BEEN REPORTED BEFORE BUT NO "FIX" WAS AVAILABLE AS OF YET FROM GM. ALSO WAS ADVISED THAT THUMPING NOISE WAS THE HATCH. THEY ADJUSTED THE HATCH SO POORLY THAT NOW IT DOESN'T CLOSE ALL THE WAY AND OF COURSE THE THUMPING NOISE IS STILL THERE. TOOK CAR BACK (THIRD TIME) AND HAD SERVICE MANAGER RIDE WITH ME UNTIL HE ACKNOWLEDGED THE THUMPING NOISE IN ADDITION TO THE CLICK IN STEERING COLUMN. LEFT MAXX IN SERVICE SO THE COULD RE-ADJUST THE HATCH TO WHERE IT WAS. CAR HAS BEEN TO SERVICE NOW THREE TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE, A TOTAL OF 14 DAYS. MAXX HAS ALSO BEEN IN TO SERVICE FOR INTERMITTENT WEAK START. SERVICE COULD NOT DUPLICATE IT. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THERE WAS A RATTLING SOUND NOTICED COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. ALTHOUGH THE DEALERSHIP WAS ALERTED NO REPAIRS WERE MADE.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN BRAKE PRESSURE WAS APPLIED AT 15MPH OR LESS, THE BRAKES MADE A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY A LOCAL DEALER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR OF THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT NOTED THERE WAS EXTENSIVE RUSTING DUE TO THE CORROSIVE ROAD SALTS. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL #05V379000, REGARDING THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.
PROMINENT NOISE IN STEERING SYSTEM. DEALER TRIED TO ORDER DEFECTIVE PARTY, BUT GM SAID NONE WOULD BE FURNISHED UNTIL A NEW PART WAS DESIGNED. THE PART IS THE "INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT". THEY CLAIM THAT IT CAUSES NO HAZARD, BUT NOISE IS ANNOYING AND VEHICLE, 2004 MALIBU LT, HAS ONLY 17,600 MILES. PURCHASED 12/23/03. *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO PARK, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER STEERING WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE ONLY OCCURRED WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO INFORMED THAT CONTACT THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER : 14V153000 (STEERING). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,000. DR
THE 2004 CHEVY MALIBU CLASSIC WILL NO START FOR 10 MINUTES EVERYTIME I GET IN THE CAR. I WANT TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT WAS TOLD BY A CHEVY DEALER THAT IT WOULD COST $400.00 BUT IT IS A HIT OR MISS SITUATION. I WOULD LOVE IF GM RECALLED IT. I WORK IN CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES AND CHILDREN LIVES CAN BE AT RISK IF I CAN'T GET TO A FAMILY IN TIME. STEERING FAILURE, STEERING REPLACED THREE TIMES. STEERING WENT OUT WHEN CAR WAS 11 MONTHS OLD, AGAIN FALL 2005, JAN 2006. TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS HAVE WORKED ON CAR, NOTING THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF STEERING PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL. *JB
LOST POWER STEERING TWICE IN ONE DAY. THIS IS THE FOURTH AND FIFTH TIMES THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED. *JB
THERE WAS A CLUNKING NOISE IN STEERING WHEN TURNING OR ACCELERATION AND OR STEERING WHEEL SHAKES WHEN STANDING STILL. *TS *JB
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE I LOST ALL POWER STEERING. I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT ACROSS 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC. A SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON AND I COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND BACK INTO THE LOT. I TURNED OFF MY CAR AND WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON MY POWER STEERING WAS BACK. *JB
I AM A FORMER STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER WITH EXTENSIVE SAFE DRIVING TECHNIQUES FOR OVER TWENTY YEARS. I NOW WORK WITH UPS AND HAVE EXTENSIVE SAFE HABITS WITH THIS CORPORATION. TODAY WAS A CLEAR, COOL AND CRISP DAY WITH NO WATER OR OIL SPOTS ON THE HIGHWAY. MY 15 MONTH OLD WAS IN HER CHILD RESTRAINT SEAT IN THE REAR AND I WAS IN THE DRIVER SEAT. WHILE COMING TO A STOP MY BRAKES LOCKED UP AND THE ABS DID NOT WORK. THE SEAT BELT I WAS WEARING DID NOT WORK PROPERLY CAUSING ME TO BREAK MY GLASSES AS MY HEAD HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. THE AIRBAGS FAILED TO WORK ALSO. *JB THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE WHICH WAS CAUSED BY THE IMPACT OF RUNNING INTO THE REAR OF A DUMP TRUCK. HAD THE ABS AND SEAT BELT WORKED PROPERLY THE ACCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED BY MANEUVERING MY VEHICLE AROUND THE DUMP TRUCK.
PURCHASED 2004 CHEVY MALIBU, CERTIFIED USED WITH 27,000 MILES. WHEN TURNING I HEAR CLICKS AND FEEL VIBRATIONS. DEALER SAY'S IT'S NOT A SAFETY ISSUE AND GENERAL MOTORS WILL FIX IN FIRST QUARTER OF 2006. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET AND CAN'T GET AN ANSWER ON THE SAFETY ISSUE OR WHEN THIS PROBLEM WILL BE CORRECTED. I HAVE BEEN READING MANY AUTOMOBILE WEBSITES AND READ 100'S OF MESSAGES FROM PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME NOISE WHEN TURNING AND EVENTUAL LOSS OF STEERING. THE CAR IS TWO YEARS OLD, WHY HASN'T CHEVY FIXED THESE VEHICLES? ARE THEY OR ARE THEY NOT SAFE? WHAT CAN CONSUMERS LIKE MYSELF DO ABOUT THE ISSUE. *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD BECOME EXTREMELY STIFF AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE DASHBOARD. AFTER THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT WOULD STOP AND RESTART THE VEHICLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AND DURING SOME OF THE FAILURES, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE. THE FAILURE WAS NEVER DIAGNOSED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 109,000.
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES AND STEERING MALFUNCTIONED, RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. THE STEERING LOCKED UP WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT SHE HEARD A SQUEAKING NOISE IN THE BRAKES. SHE TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC, AND WAS TOLD BRAKES WERE IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION. SHE HAS NOT CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP. ON DECEMBER 2, 2005 I WAS TRAVELING TO WORK USING MY TYPICAL ROUTE HIGHWAY 74 ALSO KNOWN AS THE ORTEGA HIGHWAY WHEN COMING TO A SHARP AND NARROW CURVE MY BRAKE PEDAL DID NOT WORK AND MY STEERING WAS LOCKED. I WAS NOT ABLE TO CONTROL THE DIRECTION OF MY VEHICLE AS A RESULT THE VEHICLE MERGED TO ON COMING TRAFFIC AND TUMBLED FOUR TIMES . *NM

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IN NOVEMBER OF 2005, THE CONTACT BEGAN EXPERIENCING FAILURE WITH THE STEERING COLUMN. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE STEERING COLUMN STOPPED MOVING. SHE TURNED THE WHEEL AS HARD AS SHE COULD IN ORDER TO PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WAS DEFECTIVE. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER RECALL AND THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED. FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS, THE CONTACT HAS HAD TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN EVERY SIX MONTHS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE HER FOR THE REPAIRS OF THE STEERING SHAFT WHICH WAS BELIEVED TO BE RELATED TO OTHER PROBLEMS. . DT: THE CONTACT'S CHILD OPENED THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR WHILE IN MOTION. BY THE TIME SHE PULLED VEHICLE OVER THE CHILD WAS STILL IN CAR SEAT HANGING OUT OF THE DOOR. THE CONTACT COMPLAINED SEVERAL TIMES TO DEALERSHIP THAT THE CAR DID NOT HAVE CHILD SAFETY LOCKS ON IT. THE DEALER TOLD HER THAT IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE TO INSTALL THE CHILD LOCKS AT THIS POINT.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILED CONTINUOUSLY. WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED, THE WHEEL WOULD MAKE A CLICKING SOUND WHEN THE CONTACT MADE A TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE DEALER GREASED THE STEERING COLUMN; HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 9,500. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,400. THE FIRST TIME, THE STABILIZER LINK BUSHING WERE REPLACED, THE SECOND TIME, THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WAS REPLACED AND THE THIRD TIME, THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED. DT CONTACT STATED THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD MOVE BY ITSELF. THE CONTACT WOULD TRY TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD TURN IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION THIS HAPPENED ON MAY 15, 2004, AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN. ON OCTOBER 17, 2005 . ,THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE WAS GOING INTO THE LOCAL DEALER TODAY. THERE WAS NO PRIOR WARNING. THIS HAPPENED ON DRY ROAD CONDITIONS. ALSO ON SEPTEMBER 1, 2005 THE GAS LIGHT KEPT COMING ON. , TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND THEY SAID THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. THE DEALER REPLACED THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. ALSO, I WAS TOLD WHEN THE GAS GAUGE FAILED IT WA S AN EARLY WARNING THAT THE FUEL PUMP WILL SOON NEED TO BE REPLACED. *AK

I PURCHASED A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU LS IN APRIL OF 2004. SINCE THAT TIME THERE HAVE BEEN MANY SAFETY ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE FIRST OF THE ISSUES WAS THE BRAKES LOCKING UP WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THIS UNDER A RECALL ALONG WITH SOME SEAT BELT AND AIR BAG RELATED RECALLS. THE VEHICLE HAS ALSO NEVER STEERED CORRECTLY AND THE ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN HAS BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES. I CURRENTLY HAVE AROUND 33,000 MILES ON THE CAR NOW AND THE STEERING HAS FAILED AGAIN. I WILL HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THIS WEEK TO SEE IF THEY CAN EVER REPAIR THE STEERING ISSUES. THERE WERE ALSO ISSUES OF THE KEY GETTING STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND THE SHIFTER MOVING OUT OF THE PARK POSITION WITHOUT ANY KEYS IN THE IGNITION. I ALSO SUED GM FOR $6,500 - ACCORDING TO THE ATTORNEY GM WOULD NOT BUY BACK THE VEHICLE. IN MY OPINION THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE AT ALL. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. *NM
AFTER RADIO WAS REPLACED I EXPERIENCED MY BLINKERS DO NOT WORK CONSISTENTLY. I HAD A WARRANTY AT THAT TIME TOOK IT TO DEALER THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM TOLD ME COME BACK WHEN IT STARTED AGAIN, HOWEVER THE DEALER SAID THAT IF I JIGGLED THE HAZARD BUTTON THE BLINKERS WOULD WORK THAT THEY HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM MANY TIMES AND THAT THEY THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A RECALL MATTER. OF COURSE THE SITUATION CONTINUED MY WARRANTY RAN OUT AND I'M STUCK WITH THIS DANGEROUS ELECTRICAL ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE A RECALL. THE A/C IS ALSO AFFECTED, IT COMES ON AND OFF AND IT SEEMS THE HAZARD BUTTON SOMEHOW HELPS TO RESET THE PROBLEM SOMETIMES SO IT COMES BACK ON JUST LIKE THE BLINKERS WILL STAY ON IF I HOLD THE LEFT CORNER OF THE HAZARD BUTTON. IF ANYONE OUT THERE HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW IT WAS CORRECTED. HELP! *TR
CAR DEVELOPED A NOISE IN THE FRONT END IN OCTOBER OF 2004. CAR WAS BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP 11/2/2004 AND THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED (6491 MILES). CAR AGAIN DEVELOPED NOISE IN MARCH 2005. STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED AGAIN ( 5/11/2005 8908 MILES). NOISE WAS AGAIN APPARENT MAY 2005. POWER STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED ( 5/11/2005 9596 MILES). NOISE NOT REPAIRED 5/16/2005 POWER STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY REPLACED AGAIN (9657 MILES). NOISE CAME BACK AGAIN 7/5/2005 AND STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED (10275 MILES). ON 9/11/2005 THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE TRYING TO TURN RIGHT. VEHICLE BECAME VERY HARD TO STEER AND PULLING UNCONTROLLABLY TO THE LEFT. THE CAR NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. ON 9/12/2005 A NEW STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY WAS INSTALLED (11388 MILES). A VEHICLE INQUIRY SUMMARY WAS OBTAINED FROM THE DEALERSHIP ( SYLVESTER CHEVROLET, PECKVILLE). THE REPORT REVEALED A STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT ON 1/21/2005 ALSO TOWING. *NM
ON 9-3-05 I FILLED MY FUEL TANK AND DROVE THE CAR THE REST OF THE WEEKEND. ON 9-5-05 AROUND 12 NOON THE ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE..THE FIRE DEPT CONTACTED AND THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT..THE REPORT IM GETTING FROM G.M AND THE DEALER IS THAT I PUT TO MUCH FUEL IN THE CAR AND THAT CAUSED THE FIRE..I WAS TOLD THAT THE FUMES CAUSE THE FIRE ON TOP OF THE ENGINE...I DO NOT FELL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR I DO NOT BY THE FACT THAT OVER FUELING THE CAR WAS THE CAUSE I HAVE FUEL THE CAR MANY TIME IN THE PAST WITH NO PROBLEMS..AND EVER TIME I MADE CONTACTED WITH A G.M REP. DT: WHEN THE CONSUMER WENT TO CHANGE A FLAT TIRE THE JACK THAT CAME WITH THE VEHICLE COLLAPSED WHILE HE HAD THE VEHICLE RAISED UP. THIS WAS THE ORIGINAL JACK THAT CAME WITH THE VEHICLE. IT COLLAPSED WHEN HE HAD THE TIRE OFF AND WAS TRYING TO PUT THE SPARE ON. IT COLLAPSED UNDER THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. *AK
I WAS CHANGING A FLAT TIRE ON MY 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU WHEN THE JACK GAVE IN UNDER THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE AND THE CAR CAME CRASHING TO THE GROUND.
THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH REMOTE START, WHICH ALLOWS YOU TO START THE VEHICLE FROM THE KEY REMOTE. ON FRIDAY 8-19 THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT" CAME ON BRIEFLY WHEN VEHICLE WAS STARTED BUT DID NOT COME BACK ON AFTER I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED. THE FOLLOWING MONDAY 8-22-05 AFTER MAKING A STOP, SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE, AND GETTING OFF THE CAR THE ENGINE STARTED ON ITS OWN AND STAYED ON FOR APPX A MINUTE, IT THEN SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED IN LESS THAN A MINUTE. THIS CYCLE REPEATED FOR ABOUT 8 MINS OR SO ON ITS OWN. I GOT BACK ON THE CAR AFTER DROPPING MY CHILD OFF AT SCHOOL AND DROVE AT HWY SPEEDS WITH THE CRUISE ON, AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF HWY SPEEDS THE CRUISE CONTROL SHUT OFF AND WAS NON RESPONSIVE. I GOT OFF THE HWY PARKED AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. AGAIN THE ENGINE STARTED ON ITS OWN, THIS TIME STAYING ON FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE DEPT REPLACED THE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE AND REPROGRAMMED THE BRAKE ECU AS THEY SAID THE KEYLESS MODULE WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND CAUSING THE ENGINE TO START USING THE REMOTE START FEATURE. THEY ALSO SAID THE BRAKE MODULE COULD HAVE CAUSED THE CRUISE CONTROL TO BE NON RESPONSIVE. THIS MALFUNCTION CONCERNED ME GREATLY AS THE VEHICLE WAS GARAGED KEPT UNTIL THIS HAPPENED AND I NO LONGER TRUST TO PUT THE CAR IN THE GARAGE IN FEAR OF POSSIBLE CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING FROM THE ENGINE STARTING ON ITS OWN WHILE IN THE GARAGE, SPECIALLY AT NIGHT WHILE ASLEEP.
BRAKE PEDAL SUDDENLY HAD NO RESISTANCE. IT HAPPENED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK SO THERE WERE NO CONSEQUENCES. IF IT HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING, THERE WOULD BE NO WAY TO STOP THE VEHICLE. UPON VISUAL INSPECTION, THE BRAKE PEDAL PUSHROD WAS DISCONNECTED FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CAUSE APPEARS TO BE THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL PUSHROD RETAINER WAS MISSING. *NM
LEFT TURN SIGNAL INOP. REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. FAILURE AGAIN WITHIN AN HOUR OF LEAVING DEALERSHIP. *NM
THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAILS UNEXPECTEDLY. THE STEERING RESETS ITSELF AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING IT BUT THEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN SPORADICALLY. THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER BUT THE PROBLEM IS RECURRING OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS. IT HAPPENED 3 TIMES. *TR
WHAT CAN I SAY I HAVE BEEN WRITING ABOUT THIS CAR FOR THE LONGEST. I JUST WANT TO SAY THE OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE BULBS BURNING OUT, THE DRIVER'S SEAT BREAKING AT THE WELD AND THE SEAT BELT LIGHT CONSTANTLY COMING ON IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM I'M SURE GM KNEW ABOUT THIS. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO DEAF EARS BOTH TO NHTSA AND GM. THE LAST TIME I MADE A COMPLAINT WAS IN MAY 2014 TO BOTH OF THEM ABOUT THE STEERING. GM AND NHTSA SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO SINCE THERE WAS NO RECALL. EXACTLY 2 WEEKS LATER THE CEO OF GM COMES OUT TO SAY THE MALIBU MAXX IS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL! I PAID TO HAVE MY STEERING WHEEL REPLACED IN 2007 BECAUSE OF POWER STEERING FAILURE, THE DEALER SAID I NEEDED THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACE AND I DID TO THE TUNE OF ALMOST $800. NOW A BULLETIN WAS SENT OUT TO DEALERS IN 2005 ABOUT A KEY INSERT FOR ANY CUSTOMER WHO CAME IN TO COMPLAIN ABOUT POWER STEERING FAILURE, BUT THIS WAS NOT GIVEN TO ME AS A CHOICE. THEY WERE SURE I NEEDED THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED, SO I DID. NOW THAT MY CAR IS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND I PAID, PERHAPS, UNNECESSARILY TO HAVE MY STEERING COLUMN REPLACED AS ANYONE KNOW THIS DEFECTIVE PART IS PART OF THE STEERING GM STILL DOES NOT WANT TO REIMBURSE ME MY MONEY BACK. I BOUGHT THE CADILLAC CATERA WHICH WAS DISCONTINUED DUE TO MANY RECALLS AND BECAUSE OF ALL MY COMPLAINTS GM GAVE ME $3000 TOWARD A NEW GM CAR, WHICH I APPLIED TO THE MALIBU MAXX. I WON'T PUT MY MONEY OR GIVEN CREDIT TOWARD A GM AGAIN, I'M THROUGH AND SINCE NEARLY HALF OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS ARE GM OWNERS I AM GETTING THEM TO MAKE THEIR NEXT PURCHASE SOMETHING OTHER THAN AMERICAN MADE CARS. I MAKE SURE I TELL EVERYONE ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE SO THEY WILL THINK TWICE ABOUT A COMPANY WHO DIDN'T WANT TO INVEST 90 CENTS TOPOSSIBLY FIX A PROBLEM PER CAR. *TR
NOTICED FRONT END SHUTTER WHILE APPLYING BRAKES. TOOK CAR TO DEALER UNDER WARRANTY AND EXTENDED WARRANTY AND DEALER SAID EXCESSIVE RUST IN BRAKE PADS. ALSO DEALER SAID FRONT ROTORS WERE WARPED. DEALER TURNED ROTORS AND CLEANED. CAR HAD ONLY 28K MILES ON IT. DROVE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND PROBLEM CAME BACK. TOOK BACK TO SAME DEALER AND HE SAID ROTORS FINE JUST EXCESSIVE RUST AND BRAKE DUST. NOTHING HE COULD DO. CAR HAS 34K MILES ON IT AND IN THE RAIN, APPLIED BRAKES AND WHOLE FRONT END SHUTTERED AND ANTI- LOCKS WERE GRINDING. TOOK BACK TO DEALER AND THEY COULD FIND NO PROBLEMS. NOW CAR HAS 42K MILES AND TOOK TO MIDAS, THEY SAID FRONT ROTORS SEVERELY WARPED AND PADS WORN AWAY. THEY COULD TELL SOMEONE TURNED DOWN ROTORS ONCE AND DID BAD JOB. HAVE TO REPLACE FRONT ROTORS WITH DIFFERENT STYLE ROTORS AND NEW PADS. COSTS $500 DOLLARS TO REPLACE. CHEVROLET WILL NOT COVER ANY OF IT EVEN THOUGH EXISTING PROBLEM. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE HORN IS NOT WORKING. CONTACT DOES NOT KNOW HOW LONG SHE HAS BEEN DRIVING WITHOUT A HORN. SHE NOTICED IT ON SATURDAY JUNE 18, 2005. THE CONTACT HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. GM STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE FOR HER. EVERY SINCE GM CLOSED THE FILE FOR HER ACCOUNT SHE WAS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. *AK
WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND SOMETIMES WHEN ACCELERATING THERE IS A CLUNK SOUND FROM THE BOTTOM LEFT OF THE STEERING COLUMN. AT FIRST WE COULD HARDLY HEAR IT AND AS THE MONTHS PASSED ON IT GOT WORSE. BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER ON MARCH 31, 2004. THEY SAID GM IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND ARE MANUFACTURING PARTS TO REPAIR THE DEFECT. THEY GAVE ME A GM DOCUMENT WITH ID#1764730 AND STATING THAT THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE IN THE SECOND QUARTER. I THINK I MAY HAVE A LEMON BECAUSE EARLIER THE POWER STEERING STOPPED AND THEY REPLACED THE WHOLE STEERING SYSTEM. IT IS NOW FIVE MONTHS SINCE I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER AND I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING. THE CAR NOW SOUNDS LIKE THE FRONT END IS GOING TO FALL OFF WHENEVER WE SLOW DOWN AND IT SOUNDS VERY DANGEROUS. THE CAR DOES NOT HAVE MORE THAN 23,000 MILES, WHICH I CONSIDER FAIRLY NEW, AND SOUNDS LIKE IT HAS 500,000 MILES ON IT. MY WIFE AND I ARE BOTH IN OUR 60'S AND BELIEVE ME WE ARE NOT HOT RODDERS. BRAND NEW MONTE CARLO SS 2004 USEING EXSESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL.THIS PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT 700 MILES AND CONTINUES TODAY,HAVE USED ABOUT 6 QUARTS SO FAR CAR HAS 5000 MILES ON IT NOW. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE STEERING ON THE VEHICLE LOCKS MOMENTARILY. THIS HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WERE THE VEHICLE WAS TEST DRIVEN. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN ALERTED.
KEY IS NOT RELEASED FROM IGNITION UNLESS SHIFT LEVER IS PUT AGAIN BACK IN DRIVE AND THEN PARK AFTER CAR IS OFF. GM HAS REPLACED BOTH IGNITION COMPONENTS AND SHIFT COMPONENTS BUT HAS NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM SINCE CAR WAS NEW, MALIBU 2004 LT, AND IT MEANS SOMETIMES HAVING TO LEAVE CAR WITH KEY IN IGNITION IF CAN'T REMOVE IT.
DRIVING VEHICLE, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT 13,890 MILES, MADE APPOINTMENT FOR SERVICE, WORK WAS DONE ON CAR, DROVER 150 MILES, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. THE DEALERHAS H MY CAR FOR THREE WEEKS NOW AND THEY CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. THEY HAD TO HAVE AN EGINEER FOR THE MANUFACTURING PLANT COME WORK ON THE CAR. TODAYS DATE IS JUNE 16 2005, I AM GETTING VERY FRUSTRATED WITH THIS MATTER I JUST WISH THE MANUFACTURE WOULD BUY THIS CAR BACK. SO I CAN BUY ANOTHER CAR.
2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU DEVELOPED MAJOR STEERING PROBLEMS.*MR THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED THREE TIMES IN THE LAST THIRTEEN MONTHS. *NM
POWER STEERING KEEPS FAILING. SOME DAYS IT WORKS FINE THE NEXT TIME IT IS JERKY, LOSS OF POWER STEERING. HAVE HAD IT LOOKED AT 4 TIMES EACH TIME THE REPLACED STEERING GEAR, STABILIZER BARS, RACK AND PINION STEERING. THIS LAST A FEW MONTHS THEN SAME ISSUE OVER AND OVER. NO ITS GONE AGAIN AND HAVE LACK OF POWER, POWER FAILURE, CLUNKING IN STEERING COLUMN. THIS IS A SAFETY AND RECALL ISSUE IN MY BOOKS. WAS TOLD BY ONE DEALERSHIP UNTIL THEY DESIGN NEW PARTS NOTHING CAN BE DONE WELL ITS 5 FIVES OF THIS NOW. *TR
