WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL LOCKED UP. CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO UNLOCK THE WHEEL. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE MAIN BOLT SHEARED OFF. THIS CAUSED THE CALIPER TO LOCK THE WHEEL. ALSO, MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER. *AK *NM
VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH. THIS OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING, AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THE FIRST SET OF THESE VEHICLES THAT CAME FROM THE FACTORY HAD STEERING PROBLEM. *AK PE04031_CAT
WE RECENTLY THROUGH MY EMPLOYER OBTAINED A NEW FLEET OF 2004 CHEVY MALIBUS LS. IT HAS BEEN NOTICED ON SEVERAL OF THE CARS THAT THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WILL START TO JERK THE STEERING WHEEL SLIGHTLY TO EITHER DIRECTION WHEN IDLE OR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS MOVING. THIS WEEK THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY FAILED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHILE IN THE PROCESS OF CHANGING LANES. VEHICLE WAS AT ABOUT 75 MPH WHEN AN AUDIBLE ALARM CAME ON, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXREMELY HARD TO MANUVER, AND A "POWER STEERING" PROMPT CAME ON THE INFORMATION CENTER. GETTING OFF THE HWY AND INTO A GAS STATION TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS W/O POWER STEERING WAS QUITE DIFFICULT. IT EVENTUALLY CAME ON AFTER TURNING OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTING ONLY TO FAIL AGAIN A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD. ALTHOUGH THIS HAPPENED TO ME THIS WEEK, THE SAME PROBELM HAS HAPPENED TO 2 OTHER MALIBUS IN OUR FLEET. PE04031_CAT
I PURCHASED MY 2004 MALIBU FROM FRANK PARRA CHEVROLET IN DALLAS, TX. I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE ADVISOR THERE TO INFORM THEM OF THE STEERING ISSUE. WHEN YOU TURN EITHER DIRECTION THE CAR WILL CONTINUE IN THAT DIRECTION UNLESS YOU MANUALLY TURN IT TO CENTER YOUR SELF. THE ADVISOR TOLD ME THAT IT COULD BE ONE OF TWO THINGS 1) THE CONTOUR OF THE ROAD, 2) HOW THE CAR WAS TIED DOWN ON THE DELIVER TRUCK THAT HAS CAUSED THE ALIGNMENT TO BE OUT OF WACK. IF THE SECOND RESPONSE IS TRUE THEN WAIT FOR 500 MILES, IF THE STEERING DOESN'T CHANGE THEN THEY WILL PERFORM A ALL WHEEL ALIGNMENT ON IT. WELL 500 MILES CAME AND WENT AND THERE WAS NO CHANGE IN THE STEERING. THE ADVISOR SAYS THE THE HEAD TECHNICIAN STATED DUE TO THE STEERING BEING ELECTRICAL THAT IS HOW IT WILL DRIVE, IT IS PERFECTLY NORMAL. I DIDN'T LIKE THAT RESPONSE SO I SPOKE WITH THE MANAGER OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND HE SUGGESTED THAT I TEST DRIVE ANOTHER VEHICLE TO SEE IF THERE WAS A DIFFERENCE. I DID THAT AND THE NEWER VEHICLE DROVE TOTALLY DIFFERENT THAN MINE BUT THE ADVISOR REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT SO A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER THE STEERING LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MILES PER HOUR. I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO POWER TO THE STEERING. FORTUNATELY I WAS ON MY WAY TO ANOTHER DEARLERSHIP AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT FOR ME BUT ONCE YOU TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND ON AGAIN THE POWER CAME BACK. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD THE MAINTENANCE LIGHT COME ON FOR SERVICE. IT HAS BEEN CHECKED OUT AND SERVICED. THE STEERING IS STILL RETURNING TO CENTER AFTER DIRECTIONAL TURNS. PE04031_CAT. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS STEERING WHEEL PULLED TO THE LEFT. CONSUMER HAD THE PROBLEM FIXED ONCE BEFORE, BUT THE MECHANIC DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK PE04031_CAT
WHILE DRIVING AT 75 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL LOST POWER. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND PULL OVER. THE DRIVER DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE DRIVER THAT THE STEERING COLUMN MODULAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.*MR PE04031_CAT
I HAD JUST DRIVEN MY 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU OFF THE HIGHWAY AND WAS ON A MAIN ROAD WHEN I HEARD A BEEPING, I LOOKED AT THE RADIO CONSOLE AND IT SAID "POWER STEERING." I THEN TRIED TO TURN THE WHEEL AND THE POWER STEERING WAS GONE. I WAS ABLE TO STRUGGLE AND GET THE CAR HOME BECAUSE IT WAS LATE AT NIGHT. THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM OF THE PROBLEM THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD ALREADY HAD ONE INSTANCE WITH ANOTHER 2004 MALIBU LAST MONTH. CHEVY ORDERED A TOW TRUCK TO COME AND PICK UP THE CAR. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER ARRIVED, HE ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL AND IT MOVED FINE. BUT, I TOLD HIM I WANTED IT TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP. IT HAS BEEN THERE EVER SINCE WAITING FOR A MODULE TO BE PUT IN. I HAVE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO CHECK ON MY CAR AND WAS RECENTLY TOLD THEY HAVE 3 MALIBUS WAITING FOR THE POWER STEERING MODULE TO BE SHIPPED. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR HOME SAFELY HOWEVER, THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. PE04031_CAT
MY POWER STEERING FAILS WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENS MANY TIMES. I HAVE TO STOP THE CAR AND RESTART IT TO BRING BACK THE POWER STEERING. IT WILL WORK FOR AWHILE, THEN FAIL AGAIN AT A RANDOM TIME. *AK PE04031_CAT
VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL AND CUT OFF. THERE HAVE BEEN INSTANCES WHERE THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN AND HAD TO BE TOWED. VEHICLE IS AT THE DEALERSHIP, AGAIN THEY ARE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.*AK
BOUGHT 2004 MALIBU MAXX BRAND NEW. SWITCH IN AC FIRST TO GO AT JUST UNDER 10000 MILES. 18000 MILES BRAKES AND ROTORS HAD TO REPLACE COST ALMOST $800.00. HEADLIGHTS BURNED UP REPLACE WIRING HARNESS ON BOTH ANOTHER $1000.00. REPLACED BOTH HEAD LIGHTS COULD NOT SEE THROUGH EITHER OF THEM ANOTHER $385.00 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON AND COME TO FIND OUT THERE WAS NOT A FUSE IN THE EMISSION SPOT. REPLACED THAT ANOTHER $400.00 WHEN THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM. LEAKS IN THE HATCH WHEN IT RAINS OR CAR IS BEING WASHED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON WILL NOT RESET. DRIVER SEAT SUPPORTS ARE BROKEN AND EVERYONE THAT I KNOW THAT HAS THIS CAR HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AND NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED ON THIS, GUESS WHEN THERE IS AN ACCIDENT AND SOMEONE REALLY GETS HURT THEN SOMETHING WILL BE DON. IT IS ASHAMED THAT YOU PAY SO MUCH FOR A VEHICLE AND THIS IS WHAT YOU GO THROUGH. I AM A FIRM BELIEVER IN OIL CHANGES AND GENERAL MAINTENANCE AND NO ONE FROM THE COMPANY SEEMS TO CARE ABOUT PROBLEMS THAT IS FAULT OF THE MANUFACTURING OF THIS CAR AND IT SEEMS THAT NO ONE WANTS TO REPLACE WHAT IS WRONG. *TR
SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2004, IT HAS BEEN AT THE CHEVROLET DEALER 4 TIMES FOR THE STEERING COLUMN AND RACK AND PINION. THE LAST TIME I BROUGHT IT IN WAS ROUND 2007 AND IT STARTED GOING OUT AGAIN IN 2008. I WAS FED UP WITH TAKING IT TO THE DEALER, SO FILED A COMPLAINT AND WAS HOPING IT WOULD GET RECALLED. I CHECKED THE RECALL LIST FOR THIS YEAR AND FOUND MY VEHICLE WAS NOT ON THE STEERING RECALL LIST. I AM VERY UPSET AND WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER GM CAR AGAIN. I REFUSE TO PAY OUT OF MY POCKET FOR THIS ONGOING ISSUE. *TR
CONTINUED LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING AND PARKED POSITIONS ON HIGHWAY, TOWN AND DRIVEWAY. RECALL WAS SAID TO HAVE BEEN DONE. PROBLEMS CONSIST ERROR MESSAGE ON RADIO, DASH, ERRATIC SHAKING OF STEERING COLOMN, LOSS OF POWER STEERING.
THE ELECTRIC STEERING COLUMN DID NOT RETURN TO THE CENTER AFTER MAKING A TURN. THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. *JB TALKED WITH CONSUMER ON 3/26/04 TO OBTAIN DETAILS AND CUSTOMER SAID HE ALSO EXPERIENCED LOSS OF POWER AFTER MOVING CAR AT STOP LIGHT. DRIVING 75 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AT RUSH HOUR, POWER STEERING GAVE OUT COMPLETELY, "POWER STEERING" DISPLAYED ON THE COMPUTER CONSOLE, ORANGE LIGHT IN DASH (CAR W/WRENCH). COULD NOT STEER AT ALL, LUCKILY WAS ABLE TO DRIFT TO THE LEFT INTO THE GRASS. CALLED AAA FOR TOW TO DEALER. WHEN CAR WAS TURNED BACK ON, POWER STEERING WAS BACK ON, EVERYTHING SEEMED OKAY. TOWED TO DEALER ANYWAY. THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSITC AND CALLED GM WITH THE CODE. GM TOLD THEM TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN. THEY HAD MY CAR FOR OVER A WEEK AND THEN TRIED TO ASSURE ME IT WOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. I AM SCARED FOR MY LIFE, IT WAS LUCK THAT I WAS NOT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY WHEN IT HAPPENED, BECAUSE THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY TO STEER THE VEHICLE. PE04031_CAT. *AK
POWER STEERING HAS FAILED ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE FIRST TIME, THE DEALER REPLACED THE CAM SENSOR IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE POWER STEERING FAILED AGAIN 5 DAYS LATER. THE CAR IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP, THEY ARE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG.*AK PE04031_CAT CALL NOTES: BACKED CAR OUT OF GARAGE. STEERING WAS DIFFICULT. SAW 'POWER STEERING' ON DISPLAY. TURNED CAR OFF AND RESTARTED, BUT NO POWER STEERING. DROVE CAR TO DEALERSHIP, WHO COULD NOT DUPLICATE CONDITION, BUT THEY DID REPLACE CAM SENSOR. AFTER ABOUT 4 DAYS, DRIVER WAS BACKING OUT OF GARAGE AND SAME SITUATION HAPPENED AGAIN. SHUT OFF CAR AND CALLED DLR. HAD A COMMITMENT SO HE DROVE CAR WITHOUT POWER STEERING. AFTER FINISHING COMMITMENT RESTARTED CAR AND POWER STEERING WORKED. BROUGHT TO DEALER, WHO KEPT CAR FOR 4-5 DAYS AND REPLACED STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY. AS HE WAS DRIVING CAR OUT OF DEALERSHIP, FELT CAR PULLING TO LEFT, BUT NEEDED CAR SO HE DROVE CAR AND BROUGHT BACK AFTER FINISHING COMMITMENT. DEALERSHIP KEPT CAR FOR 7 DAYS, CALIBRATED STEERING, BUT DID NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS. DRIVER JUST PICKED UP CAR AND THINGS SEEMED OK. CAT 3/25/04 NO CRASH OR INJURIES PER CONSUMER CALL ON 3/30/04 CAT
MY 2004 CHEVY MAILBUX MAXX LOST ITS ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST WHEN MAKING A RIGHT TURN OUT OF A SAM'S PARKING LOT. THE 'POWER STEERING' MESSAGE WAS ILLUMINATED ON DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER (DIC) AND AN ORANGE VEHICLE SERVICE LIGHT APPEARED ON INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR THE VEHICLE SERVICE LIGHT WAS NOT ILLUMINATED AND THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSSIT WORKED CORRECTLY FOR A WHILE. THEN SUDDENLY, WHILE IN REVESE OUT OF MY HOME DRIVEWAY, I LOST POWER STEERING ASSIST, THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE ILLUMINATED IN THE DIC AND THE VEHICLE SERVICE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER BUFF WHELAN CHEV AND HAVE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT SCHEDULED FOR 3/15/04 AT 8AM. I AM GLAD THAT THIS STEERING ASSIST FAILURE DID NOT HAPPEN WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY GETTING OFF ON AN EXIT RAMP.*AK PE04031_CAT
ROTORS WERE REPLACED AT 17,000 MILES BECAUSE THEY WERE WARPED. THEN AT 46,000 MILES THERE WAS NEW PADS PUT ON THE FRONT OF CAR,AND ROTORS WERE MACHINED AT THIS TIME,AS REGULAR MAINTENANCE. NOW AT 60,000 MILES THE ROTORS NEED REPLACED AGAIN. THERE IS A PROBLEM HERE AND CHEVROLET NEEDS TO REALIZE IT. CARS DON'T GO THROUGH ROTORS EVERY 20,000 MILES. THIS GETS EXPENSIVE ONCE THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. BUT CHEVY SAYS ITS JUST HOW IT IS. *AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES, STEERING, AND ELECTRICAL WIRING FOR THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED. THE FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED SINCE 2004. WHILE MAKING LEFT TURNS, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAD BEEN SUBMITTING COMPLAINTS TO THE MANUFACTURER SINCE 2004. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED WITH THE REMOTE CONTROL DASHBOARD COMPONENTS FAILED TO FUNCTION WHEN THE KEY WAS TURNED IN THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP THE FOLLOWING DAY A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED, BUT NO FAILURE CODES WERE FOUND. THE FAILURE RECURRED 4 MONTHS LATER WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING SPACE. ALSO, THE STEERING COLUMN LOCKED UP. WHEN THIS OCCURRED, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL READ STEERING COLUMN ASSISTANCE NEEDED. THE CONSUMER THEN TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, THEN BACK ON. THE VEHICLE STARTED, BUT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULDN'T MOVE. THE STEERING WHEEL UNLOCKED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED 20 MINUTES LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE SERVICE PERSON INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS ISSUE, AND ORDERED A NEW STEERING COLUMN TO BE INSTALLED. THE CONSUMER WAS INSTRUCTED NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE OUT OF TOWN, IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING AT 1379 MILES, THE CONSUMER SMELLED A STRONG FUEL ODOR. THIS OCCURRED BECAUSE THE FUEL LINE CLIP CAME OFF, AND FUEL WAS LEAKING. THE DEALERSHIP REINSTALLED THE FUEL CLIP BECAUSE IT WASN'T PROPERLY INSTALLED AT FACTORY. *AK EA04018_CAT *SC
THE LIGHT WITH A WRENCH CAME ON MANY TIMES. HAD CAR SERVICED THREE DIFFERENT TIMES (2/19/04, 3/04/04, AND 03/11/04). AFTER THE THIRD SERVICE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT LOOSE GROUND AT LEFT CORE SUPPORT WAS THE PROBLEM.*AK
THE POWER STEERING WAS DISPLAYED IN THE INFORMATION DISPLAY CENTER OF THE RADIO. THE POWER STEERING THEN FAILED. THIS HAPPEND TWO TIMES. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM OR DUPLICATE IT. A PROBLEM LIKE THIS AT HIGH SPEEDS COULD BE DANGEROUS AND CAUSE A DRIVER TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THERE NEEDS TO BE FURTHER INVESTIGATION ABOUT THIS TO AVOID SERIOUS PROBLEMS. THE STEERING WHEEL CAN STILL BE TURNED BUT EXPTREMELY DIFFICULT. THE STEERING BECAME HEAVY INSTANTLY. COMPLAINANT SON WAS EXPERIENCE THE SAME ISSUE WHEN PULLING THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE DRIVWAY. IT APPEARS TO BE AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. OWNER DID STATE THAT SHE KNOWS SOMEONE ELSE WITH AN 04 MALIBU AND THE ELECTRIC ASSIST STEERING WENT OUT.CW PE04031_CAT
PURCHASED A 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU IN DEC. 03 - ON FEB. 09, 2004 I WAS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC ON THE BALTIMORE BELTWAY DURING MORNING RUSH HOUR. WHILE GOING ONLY ABOUT 7 MILES PER HOUR, I APPLIED MY BRAKES TO STOP AND MY CAR WOULD NOT BRAKE. I ENDED UP RUNNING INTO THE SUV IN FRONT OF MY VEHICLE. NO DAMAGE TO THE SUV, HOWEVER THE FRONT END DAMAGE TO MY MALIBU WAS $3500.00. (AFTER POKING AROUND ON THE INTERNET I FOUND OUT THAT THE MALIBU RECEIVED THE POOREST RATING ON A LOW SPEED FRONT END IMPACT CRASH TEST) IT REALLY DOESN'T LOOK LIKE $3500 WORTH OF DAMAGES. NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS FLOORED WHEN I RECEIVED THE NEWS. ANYWAY, ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER IN THE MAIL STATING THAT MY ABS SYSYEM NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. IT ALSO STATED IN THE LETTER EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME ON FEB 9, 2004 WHEN MY CAR DID NOT BRAKE. I AM 100% CERTAIN THAT THIS IS WHAT CAUSED MY ACCIDENT. I PHONED GM AND TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALER. THEY INSPECTED MY VEHICLE AND REPROGRAMMED MY BRAKING SYSTEM. A REPRESENTATIVE FROM GM CALLED ME EARLIER THIS WEEK. HE STATED THAT THEY FOUND NO PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES IN MY 04 MALIBU. (SO WHY THE RECALL AND WHY DID THEY REPROGRAM THE ABS?) HE ALSO WENT ON TO SAY THAT GM WOULD NOT BE HELD LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES SUSTAINED FROM THIS COLLISION. I DISAGREE! I FEEL THAT GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD BE HELD LIABLE FOR MY DAMAGES. *AK
CAR HAS MAJOR STEERING PROBLEMS SINCE 2 MONTHS AFTER BOT THE CAR AND HAS GOT WORSE AFRAID TO DRIVE FEAR FOR LIFE GOT LAWYER NO ONE IS DOING ANY THING. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILED AT 2300 MILES AND 5000 MILES. WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED, IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL.*AK DRIVER WAS HEADING HOME FROM WORK AND HAD DRIVEN ABOUT 15 MIN. HEARD MESSAGE BOARD SOUND; SAW 'POWER STEERING' ON DISPLAY; SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON. A FEW SECONDS LATER, SHE HAD NO POWER STEERING, BUT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE CAR TO SIDE OF ROAD. TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED CAR A LITTLE LATER. POWER STEERING WAS WORKING SO SHE DROVE 12-15 MINUTES FURTHER WHEN SHE LOST POWER STEERING AGAIN (HEARD SOUND, SAW MESSAGE, AND SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT). PULLED CAR OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD, RESTARTED A LITTLE LATER AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE CAR TO DLR. LEFT CAR AT DEALER, WHO SAID THEY WOULD NEED 2-3 WEEKS TO GET PART, BUT ENDED UP CALLING BACK 5-6 DAYS LATER AND TOLD HER TO PICK IT UP. CAR FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. SAME SITUATION AND WARNINGS HAPPENED AGAIN ON MARCH 4, 2004. BROUGHT BACK TO DLR,WHO SAID THEY HAD TO RESET A SENSOR. CAT PE04031_CAT
WHILE DRVING OR SITTING THE ALARM WOULD GO OFF AT ANYTIME, INCLUDING THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE TURNING ON/OFF WHILE THE ALARM GOING OFF. TOLD BY DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THE CAR COULD START/TURN OFF ON ITS OWN WHILE BEING DRIVEN. TURNED INTO SERVICE DEPARTMENT NUMEROUS TIMES AND PROBLEM NOT FIXED, THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER IN THE CAR AND REMOVED THE ACCESSORY ALARM, BUT FACTORY SECRURIT SYSTEM WOULD STILL GO OFF. IT IS CUURENTLY IN THE SHOP TODAY 4/29/04 FOR THE 3RD TIME TO BE "FIXED" AGAIN. WHILE THIS PROBLEM IS OCCURING THE INFOMATION PANEL (TRIP MILES, MPG, AVERAGE SPEED, OIL LIFE,ETC.) WOULD RESET.
THE CONSUMER FELT SEVERE VIBRATIONS IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE CONTROLLED NORMALLY BY THE STEERING COLUMN. THE DEALER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE ALREADY HAD THREE STEERING COLUMNS REPLACED ON THE VEHICLE SINCE FEBRUARY. THE STEERING COLUMN RECENTLY LOCKED UP AND CAUSED THE CONSUMER TO JUMP THE CURB AND ALMOST STRUCK SEVERAL PEDESTRIANS. 2004 MALIBU ANTI THEFT LIGHT AND RADIO LOCK LIGHT ILLUMINATES, PROBLEM WITH SEAL ON THE REAR LEFT WINDOW. *TS THE STEERING WAS STIFF, THE MOLDING ON THE LET REAR WINDOW CAME OUT OF PLACE WHEN THE WINDOW WAS ROLLED UP. THE VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE WHILE DRIVING. THERE WAS A RUBBING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED SEVERAL TIMES, THE TEMPERATURE AND FUEL GAUGE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE TRUNK WOULD NOT OPEN PROPERLY WHEN USING THE REMOTE. THE VEHICLE STARTED BY ITSELF AND ALL THE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED WHICH CAUSED THE BATTERY TO DIE. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND WITHOUT WARNING, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED FOUR TIMES IN FOUR MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN UNIT. ALSO, THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND THE BRAKES MADE A SCREECHING NOISE WHEN DEPRESSED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ABS MODULE AND FRONT BRAKE HUBS. ALTHOUGH THE REPAIRS HAD BEEN DONE, THE SAME PROBLEMS RECURRED. *AK THERE WERE ELECTRICAL FAILURES WITH THE DASH DIMMER SWITCH AND HEADLIGHT DIMMER, THE KEYLESS ENTRY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND GREASE LEAKED FROM THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL. *SC PE04031_CAT *JB
I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION MAKING A LEFT TURN, AND MY CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT ENGAGED, MY CENTER INFORMATION CONSOLE READ "POWER STEERING", AND MY STEERING BECAME VERY STIFF. I MANAGED TO GET THE VEHICLE TO MY HOME (LESS THAN 1 MILE AWAY), AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO BOB BELL CHEVROLET (EAST POINT) LOCATION. THE CAR WAS OUT OF SERVICE UNTIL JANUARY 29, 2004, AT WHICH TIME I SIGNED A REPAIR ORDER THAT STATES THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOUND "CODE 0545", AND REPLACED THE POWER STEERING COLUMN. THIS SERVICE AS COVERED BY MY FACTORY WARRANTY, SINCE THE CAR WAS ONLY 90 DAYS OLD. ON JUNE 7, 2004, AGAIN WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN IN THE MIDDLE OF A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION (PHILADELPHIA ROAD AND ROSSVILLE BLVD IN ROSEDALE, MD), MY POWER STEERING FAILED IN THE SAME EXACT MANNER AS THE PREVIOUS OCCURANCE. HOWEVER, THIS WAS MORE SERIOUS BECAUSE I NEARLY HIT A FORD F-150 HEAD ON. I HAD THE VEHICLE AGAIN TOWED TO BOB BELL CHEVROLET-EASTPOINT. THEY ARE NOW STATING THAT THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED AGAIN, BUT I AM NOT PICKING THE CAR UP BECAUSE I AM TOO SCARED TO DRIVE IT. I HAVE FILED A CLAIM WITH THE BBB, SENT A CERTIFIED LETTER TO GMAC (RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED), AND VERBALLY FILED A CASE WITH GMAC CUSTOMER RELATIONS (1-224-501-301).*AK PE04031_CAT
WHILE DRIVING AND TURNING TO THE LEFT STEERING WHEEL FAILED. THE VEHICLE INFORMATION SCREEN INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A POWER STEERING FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO A PARKING LOT AND TURN OFF. PROBLEMS WITH KEYS GETTING STUCK IN IGNITION.*MR *MR
WITHIN 6 WEEKS OF PURCHASING THIS 2004 MALIBU AND WITH LESS THAN 2000 MILES ON IT, THE POWER STEERING LOCKED UP. WHILE DRIVING HOME, A WARNING INDICATOR APPEARED ON THE DASH ALONG WITH THE WORDS "POWER STEERING". I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME, BUT THERE WAS VIRTUALLY NO POWER ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE DEALER REPAIR SHOP FROM DECEMBER 31 UNTIL JANUARY 8. I HAD TO MAKE FOLLLOW UP CALLS TO THE DEALER WHO REPEATEDLY TOLD ME THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER. I WAS SUBSEQUENTLY ADVISED THAT A SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED AND THE DEALER MADE ALL REPAIRS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THAT BULLETIN. THE PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN ON TUESDAY, APRIL 6. (AT 4098 MILES) ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK WHILE DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY, THE WARNING LIGHT WENT OFF, THE STEERING COLUMN TIGHTENED UP AND THE "POWER STEERING" MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE DIC. CAR HAS BEEN RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. I HAVE ALERTED THE SERVICE MANAGER AND SALES PERSON OF THE SITUATION AND MY INTENT TO PURSUE MY FULL RIGHTS UNDER THE STATE LEMON LAW. THE PCM WAS REPLACED. THE PASSENGER SIDE DIRECTIONAL LIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS WERE INOPERATIVE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BULBS. THE HEATED SEATS CAME ON BY THEMSELVES. THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WAS REPLACED, BECAUSE THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES WERE LEAKING, THE REAR DEFOGGER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS INOPERATIVE. WHEN THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE ON INTERMITTENT, THEY WOULD GO FULL SPEED BY THEMSELVES. *JB

A SYSTEMS CHECK WAS PERFORMED AND THE TEST CONFIRMED THE STEERING WHEEL TORQUE SENSOR FAILED. THE TEST ALSO CONFIRMED THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *JB
