WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED THE STEERING WHEEL PULLS TO THE LEFT BY ITSELF. ON OCCASION THERE IS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND THE LIGHT COMES ON AND NOW IT IS CONSTANTLY PULLING LEFT. IF I WERE TO LET GO OF THE WHEEL NOW,IT WOULD TURN LEFT AND IT FEELS LIKE I HAVE MINIMAL POWER ASSIST WHEN I TURN RIGHT. IN A NUTSHELL IT NOW FEELS LIKE IT HAS HALF ITS POWER STEERING WORKING ONLY WHEN TURNING LEFT. THERE ALSO IS A CLUNKING NOISE UNDER THE CAR WHEN I TURN THE WHEEL HARD .THIS THUMPING HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR . IT FEELS LIKE SOMETHING UNDER THE CAR IS BUMPING THE STEERING LINKAGE WHEN FULLY TURNED. *TR
THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING, AND I ALMOST HIT A CAR AT INTERSECTION WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN TO THE RIGHT WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE AND THERE WAS SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT #10183 (JULY 20, 2110) POWER STEERING ASSIST, BUT MY VIN # WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS COVERAGE, EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN THE COVERAGE IS THE SAME. A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN AT DEALERSHIP VERIFIED CODE CO545- POWER STEERING MODULE. THE PART THAT HAD TO BE REPLACED ON MY CAR WAS PART # 25933396- STEERING COLUMN, AS LISTED IN THE SPECIAL COVERAGE. I HAVE BEEN IN EMAIL/PHONE CONTACT WITH GM SINCE THE INCIDENT. AS OF A PHONE CALL TODAY, THEY REFUSE TO COVER THE COST OF FAULTY STEERING COLUMN OR THE LABOR TO HAVE IT REPLACED. THE TOTAL BILL WAS $645. *TR
AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT A MESSAGE CAME ACROSS MY RADIO/TEMP SCREEN AND SAID POWER STEERING. ALL OF A SUDDEN MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I DROVE IT A FEW BLOCKS TO MAKE IT HOME WITH ABSOLUTELY NO POWER STEERING. IT WAS TOUGH, BUT I MADE IT HOME. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND DID A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET CONCERNING MY POWER STEERING. I SEEN A LOT OF PEOPLE SAID ONCE THEY STARTED THEIR CARS AGAIN THE POWER STEERING WORKED, BUT ALSO WENT OUT AGAIN INTERMITTENTLY. SO I WENT OUTSIDE AND STARTED MY CAR AND SURE ENOUGH MY POWER STEERING IS WORKING....FOR NOW. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT AGAIN FEARING IT WILL GO OUT AND I WON'T BE ABLE TO CONTROL IT AND CAUSE A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT. GM NEEDS TO RECALL THESE CARS BECAUSE THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM! *TR
WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT A RECALL THAT OCCURRED WITH THE ENTIRE STEERING SYSTEMS FOR MALIBU'S. THE MANUFACTURES EXTENDED THE RECALL UP TO 150,000 MILES. ON FRIDAY NOVEMBER 23, 2013, WE WERE BACKING OUT OF OUR PARKING SPOT WHEN OUR POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON US. WE HAD NONE. THEN WE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON, SUDDENLY IT WAS THERE AGAIN. HERE LIES THE PROBLEM; WE TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND "THEY" INFORMED US THAT THERE WAS A RECALL IN THE U.S. HOWEVER, WE WERE NOT NOTIFIED AND SINCE OUR MALIBU WAS OUT OF THE 150,000 MILES; THEY SAID THE RECALL WOULD NOT COVER IT. HOW CAN OWNERS OF CARS/TRUCKS GET THEIR SAFETY ITEMS FIXED, WHEN THEY HAVE NEVER RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE?! THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, NOT A PHYSICAL APPEARANCE ISSUE. IF I AM DRIVING ALONG A CORNER AND MY POWER STEERING LOCKS UP, OR SUDDENLY STOPS AND I KILL OR MAIM ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL WHO IS RESPONSIBLE? GM? AS I READ THE OTHER "COMPLAINTS" ON THIS SITE; THIS IS NOT ABOUT CAR OWNERS TRYING TO RECEIVE BRAND NEW CARS.WE ALL JUST WANT OUR CARS TO BE FIXED BY THE RECALL REGARDLESS OF THE MILEAGE AND TO BE SAFE! PERHAPS, WE ALL SHOULD GET TOGETHER AND SUE EVERYONE WHO IS INVOLVED WITH NOT GETTING THE INFORMATION OUT TO THE PUBLIC AND GM. JUST A THOUGHT. DRIVING FROM SCHOOL SAW A CAR AHEAD PERSON HAD TURN SIGNAL ON TO GO LEFT. TOOK FOOT OFF GAS WENT TO BRAKE AND TURN WHEEL COULD NOT DO EITHER. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. *TR
LAST NOVEMBER, 2013, I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX LT ON SIMSBURY RD. IN AVON, CT WHEN I EXPERIENCED A VERY DANGEROUS LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. CAUSING MY FRONT RIGHT TIRE TO BLOW OUT. THIS MADE MYCAR TO SWERVE AND VEER INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. T I WAS AT RISK OF BEING HIT BY OTHER CARS. WHILE WAITING FOR ROADSIDE ASSIST I WAS HELPED BY THE CT DOT AND AVON PD. THIS WAS A HARROWING, DANGEROUS, AND STRESSFUL EXPERIENCE FOR ME. I WOULD LIKE CHEVROLET TO COVER ALL OF THE REPAIR EXPENSES RELATED TO THIS ACCIDENT AND ALL PROBLEMS & REPAIRS THAT FOLLOWED SINCE THIS IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE POWER STEERING& ELECTRICAL SYSTEM RECALLS FROM GM CHEVROLET. THEY DID NOT NOTIFY ME DIRECTLY ABOUT THE POWER STEERING& ELECTRICAL SYSTEM RECALLS. I FOUND OUT ONLY THIS WEEK AUGUST 10, 2014 AFTER I CALLED THIS WITH REGARDS TWO ADDITIONAL RECALL NOTICES I RECEIVED OF LATE REGARDING FAULTY TRANSMISSION AND BRAKES. THEY DO NOT HAVE PARTS OR AN EXPECTED DATE FOR REPAIRS AND HAVE REFUSED MY REQUEST FOR A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE IN ANY FORM. I HAVE SPOKEN AT LENGTH TO THEIR CUSTOMER RELATIONS DIRECTOR AS WELL AS ALL THREE OF THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIPS I HAVE USED FOR SERVICE AND PURCHASE; ONEILL CHEVROLET, AVON, CT, GENGRAS CHEVROLET, EAST HARTFORD, CT AND CARTER CHEVROLET IN MANCHESTER, CT, WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. NONE OF THEM ARE WILLING TO ARRANGE A TEMPORARY REPLACEMENT VEHICLE AND HAVE NO FURTHER INFORMATION ON A DATE FOR REPAIRS OR PARTS AVAILABILITY. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS AND UNACCEPTABLE. PLEASE ADVISE CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND ME AS TO HOW I SHOULD PROCEED. I AM A DISABLED AMERICAN AND HAVE NO OTHER TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS OTHER THEN MY OWN CAR. THANK YOU. *TR
2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO POWER STEERING PROBLEMS. *SMD THE ELECTRONIC STEERING MOTOR/MODULE WAS REPLACED. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING), BUT THE REMEDY DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. UPON MAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL DID NOT TURN AND THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY FORCE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE POWER STEERING BECAME INOPERABLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY OVER SEVERAL YEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,768.
WHEN STARTING THE CAR IN THE GARAGE, THERE WERE 4 CHIMES, AND A MESSAGE ON THE DIC 'POWER STEERING.' THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING HAD FAILED AND WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO BACK THE CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE. THE CAR WAS THEN SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED WITH NO RECURRENCE OF THE PROBLEM. IT HAPPENED AGAIN 3 DAYS LATER, SAME PROBLEM. THEN AGAIN, 4 DAYS LATER, SAME SITUATION. WE HAVE NOTIFIED GM OF THE SITUATION. TO US IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. THERE WAS A RECALL IN CANADA WITH GM CARS WITH THIS PROBLEM AND THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED. WHY DOESN'T GM RECOGNIZE THAT THIS PROBLEM EXISTS IN THE USA? AS I STATED, IT DOES NOT OCCUR ALL THE TIME. WE WERE TOLD TO TAKE THE CAR TO OUR CHEVROLET DEALER BUT UNLESS THE PROBLEM OCCURS AT THE DEALER, THERE IS NO WAY THAT THEY CAN DETECT THE PROBLEM. THE COMPUTER ONLY STORES 'ERROR CODES' FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. WE ARE FEARFUL OF DRIVING THIS CAR. *TR
HEADLIGHTS HAVE STARTED TO FAIL ON A REGULAR INTERVAL. I HAVE REPLACED THE LOW BEAMS 4 TIMES. I JUST PURCHASED TWO MORE BECAUSE THE RIGHT LOW BEAM HAS FAILED AGAIN. NO, I DO NOT TOUCH THE QUARTZ HALOGEN LAMP. I HAVE WORKED WITH THESE BULBS FOR MANY YEARS. *TR
POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING AND A WARNING SOUNDED AND POWER STEERING DISPLAYED ON STEREO INDICATOR THAT IT HAD STOPPED WORKING. I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN RESTATED AND THE POWER STEERING STARTED WORKING AGAIN. A COUPLE MORE MILES DOWN THE ROAD IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND I REPEATED WHAT I HAD PREVIOUSLY DONE AND WAS ABLE TO FINALLY MAKE IT HOME. IT HAS DONE THIS NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE THEN. THIS COULD DEFINITELY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. HOPE TO GET IT FIXED SOON. NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BY GM. *TR

SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE LAST 6-8 MONTHS, I WAS DRIVING MY CHEVROLET MALIBU 2006 LT AND THE CAR DIED AND MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT WITHOUT WARNING. THE SENSOR CAME ON THAT SAYS "POWER STEERING." IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY TIME THAT IT HAPPENED, I WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN. SINCE I WAS TURNING LEFT IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, I WAS NOT DRIVING FAST AT ALL. I BELIEVE I HAD MY GRANDCHILDREN IN THE CAR ON AT LEAST ONE OF THESE OCCASIONS. I COULD NOT CONTROL THE STEERING AT ALL. MY CAR ENDED UP WITH THE FRONT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION FACING THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC BECAUSE YOU CANNOT COMPLETE THE TURN WHEN THIS HAPPENS. I THOUGHT IT MUST BE THAT IT NEEDED POWER STEERING FLUID. BUT MY HUSBAND CHECKED IT AND HE SAID IT DOES NOT NEED POWER STEERING FLUID. WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THE GM RECALL YESTERDAY, I IMMEDIATELY CALLED A CHEVY DEALER AND THEY SAID MY CAR VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I THEN CHECKED GM'S WEBSITE AND PUT MY VIN IN AND IT SAID THAT MY CAR IS NOT CURRENTLY INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THIS SOUNDS VERY WRONG TO ME. I THINK THE NHTSA SHOULD CLOSELY SCRUTINIZE THE LT MODELS OF THE CHEVROLET MALIBU 2006 AS I AM CONCERNED THAT THEY HAVE THE SAME OR SIMILAR DEFECT. THANK YOU FOR LOOKING INTO THIS. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR NOW. I AM NOW USING ONLY A SINGLE KEY WITHOUT THE FOB AS THE NHTSA CONSUMER ALERT ON YOUR WEBSITE STATES TO DO. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND UPON RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TORQUE CONTROL AND STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000.
I WENT TO HAVE THE CAR INSPECTED BUT THE INSPECTION MACHINE CANT READ THE CAR COMPUTER. *TR
MY VEHICLE LOST ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING (EPS) ASSISTANCE WHEN BEING OPERATED IN AN UNDERGROUND PARKING GARAGE. THE VEHICLE GAVE AN AUDIBLE ALERT AND WARNING LIGHTS DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES. BECAUSE THE PARKING GARAGE CONTAINED TIGHT CORNERS AND REQUIRED SLOW SPEED OPERATION, I COULD NOT SAFELY OPERATE THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE PARKING GARAGE. THE NEXT DAY, THE EPS WORKED WITHOUT A PROBLEM. THIS UNPREDICTABLE AND INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING FAILURE IS WELL DOCUMENTED IN 2006 MALIBU MAXX VEHICLES. IN FACT, CHEVROLET HAS EXTENDED WARRANTIES AND CONDUCTED SPECIAL CUSTOMER SERVICE CAMPAIGNS TO SELECT 2006 MALIBU MAXX OWNERS TO REMEDY THE DEFECTIVE EPS. EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE SAME MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR AS OTHER VEHICLES DETERMINED TO BE DEFECTIVE, MY VEHICLE'S VIN FALLS OUTSIDE OF THE RANGE IDENTIFIED BY CHEVROLET. THE VIN RANGE IDENTIFIED BY CHEVROLET IS INSUFFICIENT. OWNERS LIKE MYSELF WHO OPERATE VEHICLES OUTSIDE OF THE VIN RANGE ARE NOT BEING ALERTED TO THE POSSIBILITY OF DEFECTIVE STEERING COMPONENTS. THE EPS COMPONENTS ARE KNOWN TO BE DEFECTIVE IN 2006 MALIBU MAXX VEHICLES AND SHOULD TO BE RECALLED. *TR
THE VEHICLE STOPS RANDOMLY IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR STOPS WITH NO WARNING. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES TO MY 21 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND HER 4 MONTH OLD BABY. THERE ARE NO CODES DETECTED TO TROUBLESHOOT THE PROBLEM. THE CHEVROLET SERVICE REPAIR CENTER HAS HAD THE CAR FOR 2 DAYS AND ADVISED THAT THEY CANNOT LOCATE THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE ON INTERNET FORUMS AND I AM SURPRISED NO ONE HAS BEEN CALLED. MY DAUGHTER HAS TO DRIVE ON THE INTERSTATE TO ATTEND CLASS AND THE VEHICLE HAS STOPPED ON HER. THEY ARE NOW RELEASING THE CAR BACK TO ME WITH NO RESOLVE. CHEVY OBVIOUSLY DOES NOT CARE TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AS IT IS A COMMON ONE WITH SEVERAL OF THEIR VEHICLES. IF I SELL THE CAR, I AM LITERALLY SELLING A DEATH TRAP TO SOMEONE ELSE. THERE IS A CLICKING OR CLUNKING TYPE SOUND WHEN TURNING. NOT WITH EVERY TURN BUT IT IS CONSISTENT. *TR
I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY CAR OVERHEATING. THIS CAR OVERHEATED AND ANTIFREEZE CAME POURING OUT OF THE OVERFILL HOSE. I HAD A MECHANIC CHECK IT AND FIX IT, NEXT DAY SAME THING. THE CAR ANTI-THEFT LIGHT COME ON, THE STEERING WHEEL SOMETIMES FREEZE UP. THIS CAR SOMETIMES TURNS ON AND OFF BY ITSELF, YES THE KEY NEED NOT BE INSIDE. THE BRAKES ARE HORRIBLE AND I SPENT FUNDS TO CHANGE IT. HELP!!! THIS CAR SEEMS TO BE A RECALL BIG TIME. *TR

I FILED A COMPLAINT LAST YEAR IN REFERENCE TO THE RANDOM STOPPING ISSUE ON MY 2006 CHEVY MALIBU. ALTHOUGH SEVERAL VEHICLES HAVE BEEN RECALLED, THE MALIBU'S AND IMPALAS HAVE BEEN OVERLOOKED AS THEY HAVE THE SAME ISSUES AS THE OTHER RECALLED VEHICLES. I HAVE A VEHICLE THAT IS A LITERAL DEATHTRAP AND THE CHEVY SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS ADVISED ME THAT THEY CANNOT DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. IF YOU REVIEW THE VARIOUS CAR FORUMS, THE RANDOM STOPPING ISSUE IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ALL CHEVY VEHICLES MAKE IN THIS TIMEFRAME. THE DEALERSHIPS OFFER LITTLE ASSISTANCE IN RESOLVING THE ISSUES IF NO CODE IS GENERATED. THE VEHICLES ARE ENGINEERED TO STOP IN THE EVENT OF ALMOST ANY MINOR ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. MY CAR HAD A DINGING AND THEN ACROSS THE RADIO IT SAID POWER STEERING AND THE CAR WAS VERY HARD TO STEER, I LOST POWER STEERING. I HAD NO MONEY TO GET IT FIXED AND THE DEALER SAID THEY RE SET THE COMPUTER AND SAID I SHOULD HAVE IT FIXED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. MY SON TOOK THE CAR HOME AND IT HAPPENED TWICE ON THE WAY HOME. ON 9/25/13 WE HAD OUR LOCAL DEALER REPLACE THE MOTOR. THEY TOLD ME THE CODE THE COMPUTER READ SAID IT WAS EITHER THE ASSIST MOTOR OR THE STEERING COLUMN. THEY SAID THE MOTOR WAS THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE AND REPLACED IT. THE TOTAL WAS 643.78 AND THE INITIAL INSPECTION WAS 99.53. ON 10/18/13 I HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN AS I WAS DRIVING INTO THE LOCAL MARKET PARKING LOT, DING,DING, DING AND I LOST POWER STEERING. I ALMOST HIT A PARKED CAR IN THE LOT AND COULDN'T STEER IT. I TOOK IT BACK AND THEY SAID IT IS THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT OR THE STEERING COLUMN AND HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM AND CHARGED ME ANOTHER 90.00 TO LOOK AT IT. I CANNOT AFFORD 1200.00 TO FIX THE COLUMN. MY SON SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR 2006 MALIBU STEERING PROBLEMS AND FOUND TRANSPORT CANADA RECALLED 67,414 2005, 2006 AND 2008 MALIBU'S, PONTIAC AND SATURNS. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW, STILL HAD THE PLASTIC ON IT. THE CAR IS WELL TAKEN CARE OF. I USED THE RE-CIRCULATE FEATURE FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, A LOUD THUMPING NOISE STARTED. THE NOISE STOPPED FOR A LITTLE BIT. TODAY I WAS DRIVING ALL OVER THE CITY, AND ON THE WAY HOME THE LOUD THUMPING NOISE STARTED AND DID NOT STOP. IT SCARED ME TO DRIVE, I THOUGHT IT WAS SOMETHING MAJOR. WE HAD TO PULL THE BATTERY TO GET IT TO STOP. I CONTACTED CHEVY, THEY SAID IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, THEY CLAIM IT IS NOT A "SAFETY" ISSUE. I HAVE MEDICAL ISSUES, I CANT BE IN THE HEAT, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. BASICALLY THEY DIDN'T CARE, THEY SAID THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO FIX IT, EVEN THOUGH MANY OTHER CHEVY'S ARE DOING THE SAME THING. *TR
THE CAR STALLS WHEN I GO FROM A COMPLETE STOP INTO FAST-MOVING TRAFFIC. THE LUG NUTS ON THE WHEEL COVERS DO NOT STAY SECURELY FASTENED. I HAVE INCREASING PROBLEMS WITH MY POWER STEERING FUNCTION. IT WOULD RANDOMLY FAIL AND THEN CORRECT ITSELF INITIALLY. SOMETIMES IT WOULD GO OUT WHEN I BACKED UP AND THEN COME BACK WHEN I WAS IN DRIVE. SOMETIMES IT WOULD GO OUT FOR 5-10 MINUTES AND THEN COME BACK. SOMETIMES IT WOULD BE OUT FOR A DAY OR TWO AND THEN COME BACK. THEREFORE, I BROUGHT IT IN TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. A FEW MONTHS AFTERWARDS, IT BEGAN TO GO OUT AGAIN, BUT JUST FOR A MOMENT AT A TIME. THIS SEEMED TO SUBSIDE. HOWEVER, THIS BEGAN HAPPENING AGAIN FROM TIME TO TIME WHEN I WOULD MERGE ONTO THE FREEWAY. WHEN I ACCELERATE, THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT COMPLETELY, THE CAR YANKS VERY HARD TO THE RIGHT, AND THE LIGHTS AND INFORMATION DISPLAY ALL BLINK REPEATEDLY. THIS NOW HAPPENS EACH TIME I ACCELERATE TO EITHER MERGE ONTO THE FREEWAY, GO INTO PASSING GEAR TO GET AROUND TRAFFIC, CLIMB A HILL, OR SIMPLY QUICKLY SPEED UP ON THE ROAD. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP CITING THIS PROBLEM, ESPECIALLY SINCE I HAVE JUST HAD THE PROBLEM FIXED RECENTLY. FOR ALL OF THESE, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NO PROBLEM AND NO RECALLS FOR MY CAR MAKE AND MODEL. I DO NOT HAVE THE OPTION OF DRIVING ANOTHER CAR OR AFFORDING A NEWER ONE. THE FIRST TIME SHE WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES PER HOUR, AND THE SECOND TIME GOING AROUND A SHARP CURVE GOING APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES PER HOUR. I AM FRUSTRATED DUE TO THE FACT THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE AS IT IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD WITH OVER A HUNDRED COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE ALONE. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY DEALER AND AFTER PAYING A DIAGNOSTIC FEE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN PUBLISHED FOR THIS (10183) BUT THEY WON'T INFORM YOU UNLESS IT OCCURS. THEY ALSO ARE ONLY COVERING REPAIRS FOR A CERTAIN RANGE OF VIN NUMBERS, EVEN THOUGH THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURS ON VEHICLES OF THE SAME MODEL YEAR OUTSIDE OF THAT RANGE. ON ARRIVAL THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN DROVE THE CAR AND DISCOVERED THE BACK RIGHT TIRE HAD SEPARATED IN SEVERAL PLACES CAUSING THE SOUND AND THE VIBRATION. HIS STATEMENT WAS "SOMEONE UP THERE MUST LOVE YOU", THIS WOULD HAVE KILLED YOU IF YOU HAD CONTINUED TO DRIVE ON IT. THE TIRE WAS REMOVED AND WILL BE TAKEN BACK TO THE PLACE OF PURCHASE. THIS HAPPENED LITERALLY AT THE END OF A 7 HOUR CAR TRIP- WE GOT LUCKY. DRIVING ON I-75 SOUTH AND APPROACHING EXIT. BEGIN TO SLOW DOWN AND ENTER EXIT RAMP. STEERING WHEEL STARTS SHAKING PROFUSELY AND IMMEDIATELY BECOMES EXTREMELY HARD TO MOVE TO EITHER SIDE. PANICKING, I MANAGED TO CONTROL THE CAR AND SLOW IT DOWN TO A VERY SLOW SPEED AND PUT THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON, AND SLOWLY MERGE INTO A GAS STATION THAT WAS, LUCKILY, RIGHT NEXT TO THE EXIT RAMP. THIS WAS EXTREMELY SCARY, UNEXPECTED, AND COULD HAVE KILLED US IF WE WERE GOING THE FULL HIGHWAY SPEED AND WERE NOT EXITING ON A RAMP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING TRANSMISSION AND BAS SENSOR FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER:14V252000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM , ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL , EXTERIOR LIGHTING , SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC , VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
MY STEERING WHEEL TIGHTENED UP AND BECAME ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. IT STARTED DINGING AND THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DISPLAY SCREEN. I JUST HAD THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED IN MARCH. I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING AND IT APPEARS MOST OWNERS OF THIS CAR HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED. MY HUSBAND HAD TO COME DRIVE MY CAR HOME AND BARELY MADE IT. *TR
MY VEHICLE PERIODICALLY STALLS DURING OPERATION. I HAVE NOTICED THIS OCCURRENCE FOR THE LAST YEAR OR SO. I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY INJURIES OR ACCIDENTS AS A RESULT OF THIS. HOWEVER, I AM READING THAT THERE MAY BE ISSUES WITH IGNITION SWITCHES OF THIS PARTICULAR MAKE AND MODEL. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION CABLE OF MY CAR QUIT WORKING. I WAS TRYING TO PUT MY CAR IN PARK WHEN PICKING MY KIDS UP FROM DAYCARE, AND THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR. THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO PARK, DRIVE, ETC. WHEN I THOUGHT I HAD PUT THE CAR INTO PAR, THE CAR PROCEEDED TO ROLL DOWN THE HILL. I HAD TO PUT THE EMERGENCY BREAK ON, AND ALL A TOW TRUCK. THE DEALERSHIP FOUND THAT THE TRANSMISSION CABLE HAD TO BE REPLACED. ALTHOUGH THIS IS ISSUE IS PART OF A CHEVROLET RECALL, MY 2006 MALIBU MAXX IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL, AND I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY. *TR
WHEN DRIVING AT LOWER SPEEDS (25-30 MPH) MY CHEVY MALIBU WOULD CHIME AT ME AND LOSE POWER STEERING, SOMETIMES CAUSING MY CAR TO GO INTO OTHER LANES AND/OR ALMOST HITTING SIDEWALKS AND CURBS. I REPLACED THE ELECTRIC STEERING MOTOR IN 2013, BUT MY CAR HAS NOT BEEN PART OF THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH THE SAME ISSUES THAT ARE LISTED UNDER THE RECALL IS WHAT HAPPENED WITH MY CAR. I HAD THE MOTOR REPLACED AT A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP, SO THERE IS A RECORD OF THE REPAIR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000.
