ON 3/15/21 MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HER2008 MALIBU DOWN 787 INTERSTATE WHEN TAX STARTED GOING UP AN DOWN ENGINE RAISING FOR NO REASON ALSO THAT SAME MONTH WHEN YOU TURN SHARP TO GO INTO A TURN STEERING HAD MIND OF ITS OWN AN YOU CAN HERE A LOT OF RATTLING UP UNDER DASH ON DRIVERS SIDE.
MY 2008 MALIBU LTZ DOES A HARD JURKING THEN THE RPM GAGE RISES WITHOUT SHIFTING. WHEN THE CAR IS SHUT OFF COMPLETELY IT HAS A BURNING SMELL. ALSO MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON BUT DOESN'T SHOW ON THE DASHBOARD.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A&T CHEVROLET (801 BETHLEHEM PIKE, SELLERSVILLE, PA 18960, (610) 890-7312) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING STEERING COLUMN AND STEERING GEAR TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 147,000.
POWER STEERING FAILURE HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS. GET MESSAGE ON DASH OF ELECTRIC POWER STEERING LOSS AND THAT MOMENT IT'S HARD TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS HAPPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. I SEE YOU HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS BUT IVE NEVER RECEIVED THIS REPAIR. THE RECALL NUMBER I HAVE IS N140115.
DROVE VEHICLE AND PARKED, WHEN I CAME BACK AND STARTED THE VEHICLE THE POWER STEERING WAS NOT WORKING, DASH LIGHT READ POWER STEERING. MANAGED TO DRIVE VEHICLE HOME WITH 'NO POWER STEERING'. CHECKED THIS SITE FOR RECALLS/PROBLEMS FOUND ANOTHER OWNER WHO HAD SAME PROBLEM AND THEY SAID THAT THEY HAD TURNED THEIR CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON AND THAT THE POWER STEERING STARTED WORKING AGAIN. AFTER READING HIS MESSAGE I WENT OUT AND STARTED MY CAR AND THE POWER STEERING STARTED WORKING AGAIN. WILL TAKE IT TO MY MECHANIC ASAP.
Faulty transmission
I HAVE A 2008 CHEVY MALIBU 4 CYLINDER AND MY POWER STEERING IS SHAKY AND HARD TO TURN WHILE I WAS DRIVING. IT HAPPEN JANUARY 10TH 2021
I AM EXPERIENCING THE EXACT ISSUES DETAILED IN THE RECALL FOR THE LATER CHEVY MALIBU MODELS, ALTHOUGH BEING A 2008, MY CAR IS NOT INCLUDED. THE 'SERVICE ESC', 'ESC OFF', CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT, AND TRACTION LIGHTS STAY ON. WITH THESE ON, I CANNOT ACCELERATE PAST 20MPH. IT HAS BEEN AN OFF AND ON PROBLEM FOR THE 2.5 YEARS I'VE HAD THE VEHICLE AND DESPITE TAKING IT IN SEVERAL TIMES TO BE WORKED ON, THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION EVERY TIME THESE WARNINGS HAVE COME ON.
I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE 3 WEEKS AGO AND FOR THE PAST WEEK IT WON'T START. POWER TO EVERYTHING BUT NO CRANK. I TOOK OUT BATTERY AND STARTER AND THEY'RE BOTH FINE. ALL RELAYS AND FUSES ARE FINE. I TOOK OUT ALL FUSES UNDER HOOD AND CAR STARTED FINE. MADE IT 5 MINUTES UP THE ROAD, MY CAR STARTED SHAKING BADLY,THE POWER STEERING APPEARED ON DASH, SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING, RPMS WORKED, AND CAR WOULDN'T SHIFT OUT OF 1ST. THAT IS DANGEROUS AND MY VEHICLE WAS RECALLED FOR EPS BUT NO ONE WILL HELP ME AND THIS HAS BEEN A RE OCCURRING ISSUE WITH CHEVY MALIBUS IN GENERAL. I HAD TO TURN AROUND AND JUST COAST THE WHOLE WAY HOME THEN MY CAR LOCKED AND WOULDN'T LET ME TAKE IT OUT OF PARK WHEN I GOT HOME.

POWER STEERING GOING IN AND OUT. IF POWER STEERING NOT WORKING, SOMETIMES TURNING CAR OFF AND RESTARTING IT WILL ENABLE POWER STEERING.
LOSS OF POWER STEERING IN MOTION ON FREEWAY AND SURFACE STREETS
TAIL LIGHTS NOT WORKING AND HAVE A PROBLEM RECALL FOR TAIL LIGHTS PROBLEMS
AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT ALL OF A SUDDEN I LOST POWER STEERING AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE POWER STEERING WORKED SO I STRAIGHTENED IT OUT AND TOOK ANOTHER CAR.

THE CONTACT COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROADWAY, TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUED DRIVING NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MIAMI LAKES CHEVROLET (16600 NW 57TH AVE, MIAMI LAKES, FL 33014) BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED DUE TO THE DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR FEES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS DIAGNOSED AND THE MECHANIC RETRIEVED DTC CODE: C0545, (STEERING WHEEL TORQUE SENSOR MALFUNCTION). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS RECENTLY TAKEN TO THE SAME DEALER FOR REPAIR UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING) HOWEVER, THE REPAIR FAILED TO FIX THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 121,000.
STEERING SHAFT COLUMN TORQUE SENSOR ASSEMBLY PART ON 2008 4 CYLINDER MALIBU REPLACED BY CHEVROLET DEALER IN OCT, 2014 AS PART OF CHEVROLET RECALL # N140115 AT ABOUT 75,000 MILES OF USE -IT WAS STILL FUNCTIONING PROPERLY WHEN REPLACED. THE REPLACEMENT PART WAS REDESIGNED BUT REQUIRED REPLACEMENT AFTER ONLY ANOTHER 49,000 MILES BY THE SAME REDESIGNED PART. PERHAPS THE RECALL REMEDY WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE EFFECTIVE HAD THE POWER STEERING MOTOR CONTROLLER UNIT ALSO BEEN REPLACED AT ABOUT 75000 MILES AS RECALL # N140115 SPECIFIED IT COULD HAVE BEEN.
HEADLIGHTS BURN OUT WITHIN A FEW MONTHS OF REPLACEMENT. HAVE HAD TO REPLACE TWO TO THREE TIMES A YEAR. POOR DESIGN MEANS THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE CAR MUST BE REMOVED TO ACCESS AND CHANGE HEADLIGHT BULBS. BULBS HAVE GONE OUT WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, MAKING A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION.
THE MAIN CONCER I HAVE IS (1)WHILE DRIVING AND CAR IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET, THE CAR ACCERLERATED ON IT'S OWN. ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAS HAPPEN SEVERAL MORE TIMES SINCE. (2)THE CAR BEGINS TO SLOW DOWN. I CANNOT DRIVE MORE THE 10 MILE PER HOUR, THE RPM GAGE GOES HIGH BUT THE CAR DOES NOT. (3)ALSO, THE CAR ABS LIGHT COMES ON WITH NORMAL DRIVING IN THE CITY, UNKNOWN CAUSE. (4)THE CAR SEEMS TO HAVE ELECTRICAL ISSUES, I'VE CHANGED HEAD LIGHTS TWICE, HORN FUSES BLOWN MULTIPLE TIMES, THE AIR CONDITIONER HAS GONE OFF 3X NOW, AND ON THE HEAT/AIR CONTROL PANEL MAKES A CLOCKNG NOISE, EVEN IF I WANT TO USE THE WIPERS.
I GET A POWERSTEERING MESSAGE WHILE DRIVING AND POWERSTEERING GOES OUT

THE FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FRACTURED SHIFTER CABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED HOWEVER, NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000. INVALID VIN.

SOUND SOMETIMES FORGET THE ARE ON STILL CRUISE CONTROL TOTALLY WAKED OUT DOES WHAT EVER IT WANT SPEED OR SLOWS ON OWN I DO KNOW OF ONE CURRENT RECALL I'VE MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO CALL W NO RETURN MESSAGES THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE NEED REPLACED BECAUSE THE SOLENOIDS KEEP GETTING STUCK 123 MINE ALSO THE CORE FEE FOR THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE 300-600 FOR THE CORE FEE ..WHY ARE THESE BEING SOLD FOR PRICES OF 500-1000$ IF THE ARE BEING REFURBISHED SEEMS TO BE A HOT ITEM TO EVEN FIND USED OR NEW IF U COULD AFFORD IT .. SO THERE'S MUCH MORE THE TRANSMISSION AND SOLENOIDS IN THESES CARS SHOULD BE RECALLED OR FLASHED FIXED AND IF U READ IT'S BEEN GOING ON SINCE 2004 AND NOW THE NEW AND NEWER ONE STILL SAME PROBLEMS I'VE HAD TO STOP OIL OVER RESTART CAR PUT IN NEUTRAL TO SHIFT RPMS GET HIGH I LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN WALKERS TO DINERS ETC ..NEEDS ATTN INTO
THIRD BREAK LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY WORKING. THE OTHER TWO BREAK LIGHTS HAVE NO ISSUE. I HAD THE THIRD BREAK LIGHT REPLACED AND AM STILL EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS CAR AS THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF OTHE CONSUMERS EXPERIENCING THIS SAME ISSUE.

THIS VEHICLE THREW ITSELF INTO LIMP MODE WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, AND AFTER SUPPOSSED REPAIRS DID THE SAME AGAIN WHEN SHE WAS IN A BAD SECTION OF THE CITY. IN THE FIRST CASE, SUDDENLY DROPPING TO 25MPH WHILE TRAFFIC IS GOING 70MPH IS AN UNACCEPTABLE RISK CONSIDERING THAT THE CAR WAS STILL MECHANICALLY ABLE TO FUNCTION NORMALLY, ITS JUST THAT THIS RIDICULOUS SENSOR SYSTEM WON'T LET IT. (WHEN TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC AND HE CLEARED THE CODE, THE CAR DROVE AND SHIFTED NORMALLY SO IT WAS MECHANICALLY ABLE FUNCTION. IN THE 2ND CASE MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER ARE AGAIN PUT AT RISK , AGAIN WHEN THE CAR WAS MECHANICALLY ABLE TO FUNCTION. I UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF NOT DOING DAMAGE TO YOUR CAR WHEN IT "SENSES" SOMETHING IS WRONG, BUT THE DECISION OF DRIVING IT ANYWAY SHOULD NEVER BE TAKEN AWAY FROM THE OWNER WHO IS FAR MORE AWARE OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES THAN A COMPUTER MODULE THAT DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHERE IT IS. THESE SYSTEMS ARE NOW SO INTERDEPENDENT THAT EVEN THE DEALERSHIPS CAN NOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX THESE PROBLEMS WITHOUT JUST THROWING PARTS AT IT. THIS ALL NEEDS TO CHANGE!
LOW BEAMS ON MY 2008 CHEVY MALIBU INTERMITTENTLY TURN OFF AND ON. INITIALLY, I THOUGHT BULBS HAD DIED SO I REPLACED ONE THEN THE OTHER, HOWEVER, SAME ISSUE STILL EXISTS. SOMETIMES WHEN I AM DRIVING AT NIGHT ON THE FREEWAY, BOTH LIGHTS WILL JUST GO OUT. I HAVE PULLED OVER AND GIGGLED WIRES TO LIGHTS AND USUALLY I CAN GET AT LEAST ONE TO GO BACK ON, HOWEVER, THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DEFAULT THAT SHOULD BE RESOLVED BEFORE A DEADLY ACCIDENT HAPPENS AS A RESULT OF HEADLAMPS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY.

THE PART REPLACED,#23232310 WAS REPLACED BY THE GM DEALER ON MAR 03,2015 @78,311 MILES ON BULLETIN # 14117 AT NO CHARGE WITHOUT ANY PREVIOUS ISSUES. REQUESTED TOTAL REFUND FROM DEALER - THEY SAID CALL GM - (CASE #[XXX])WHO SAID THE PERIOD OF 10 YEARS/150,000 MILES HAD EXPIRED. AM I WITHOUT RECOURSE IN THIS MATTER? MY CAR'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON AND FLASHING FOR THE PAST TWO WEEKS. I HAVE HAD MY CAR REPAIRED SEVERAL TIMES BY AUTOBODY SHOPS. A DIAGNOSTIC TEST HAVE NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE TODAY. MY CAR IS PULLING TO THE RIGHT. THE RACK AND PINION WAS REPLACED LAST YEAR. I HIT A DEER AND ACCORDING TO THE REPAIR SHOP I ONLY HAD BODY DAMAGE. SIX MONTHS LATER THEY ARE TELLING ME I NEED TO REPLACE MY ENGINE. I HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKES ON THIS CAR MORE THAN SEVEN TIMES. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING THE ROTORS REPLACED. THEN EVERY FOUR MONTHS I HAVE TO GET MY TIRES REPLACED.
THERE IS SOME ISSUE WITH MY DRIVERS DOOR. I GO TO LOCK IT WHEN I GET OUT AND IT UNLOCKS ITSELF AND ITS ONLY THE DRIVERS DOOR THAT DOES IT. MY CAR WAS PARKED AND NOT IN MOTION. I STARTED MY CAR UP TO GO HOME AFTER WORK AND WHEN I SHIFTED MY CAR INTO GEAR THE DRIVERS DOOR DID NOT LOCK. I HAD TO DO IT MANUALLY. ON TOP OF THAT HAPPENING MY DOME LIGHT IS SET TO TURN ON AND OFF WHEN A DOOR IS OPEN. ALL OF MY DOORS ARE CLOSED COMPLETELY AND THE DOME LIGHT IS STILL ON.

AFTER LOOKING ONLINE FOR POSSIBLE CAUSES, IT IS VERY CLEAR THAT ENGINE POWER REDUCED AND SERVICE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHEVY MALIBU'S FROM OLDER MODELS TO NEWER 2016-2018 MODELS). NOT ONLY IS IT COMMON, BUT MOST PEOPLE THAT EXPERIENCE THE SAME ISSUE I DID, END UP SPENDING THOUSANDS TRYING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. REPAIRS RANGE FROM CHANGING THE THROTTLE BODY TO SENSORS TO BATTERY CABLES & TERMINALS. A FEW GET LUCKY BUT FOR THE MAJORITY OF MALIBU OWNERS, THE PROBLEM RETURNS WITHIN DAYS OR IF THEY'RE LUCKY, THEY GET A COUPLE OF MONTHS BEFORE THE ERROR CODES COME BACK. ALL ONE HAS TO DO IS SEARCH THE FORUMS OF CARGURUS.COM OR YOUTUBE FOR VIDEOS TO FIND THE COUNTLESS POSTS OF CHEVY MALIBU OWNERS ALL EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. I PERSONALLY READ OF MANY ACCOUNTS WHERE OWNERS WERE ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THEY HAVE THE ENGINE POWER REDUCED. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AND EVENTUALLY SOMEONE OR MULTIPLE PEOPLE ARE GOING TO GET KILLED WHEN THEY LOSE POWER AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. CHEVY IS UNDOUBTEDLY AWARE THAT THERE'S A PROBLEM AND ARE CHOOWING TO TURN A BLIND EYE INSTEAD OF ISSUING A RECALL. WHAT'S IT GOING TO TAKE FOR GM TO ADMIT THERE'S A PROBLEM? MULTIPLE DEATHS? MECHANICS, EVEN THOSE THAT WORK FOR GM KNOW THERE'S AN ISSUE BUT DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT PERMANENTLY. I'M SURE I'M NOT ALONE WHEN I SAY I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY THOUSANDS FOR GUESS WORK. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO EVEN CONSIDER IT BECAUSE GM KNOWS THERE'S AN ISSUE AND AREN'T DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. BEFORE PEOPLE GET KILLED, AN INVESTIGATION NEEDS TO BE CONDUCTED & A RECALL ISSUED!

ELECTRIC STEERING GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING. WAS A RECALL FOR THIS IN 2014 FOR SOME OF THE 2008 MALIBU BUT DEALERSHIP SAY NOT MY VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH THAT'S THE PROBLEM ITS HAVING.
MY ELECTRIC LOCKS ARE LOCKING AND UNLOCKING RANDOMLY AND THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT WITH MESSAGE ON DASH. THERE IS NO POWERSTEERING UNTIL I TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON THEN LAST FOR A UNDETERMINED AMOUNT OF TIME.
LOW BEAM PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT WORKS INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. IT TURNS OUT THAT IT WAS DUE TO THE ELECTRICAL WIRING HARNESS BURNING OUT. THIS IS NOT AN EASY FIX FOR THIS MODEL, TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY THE ENTIRE FRONT BUMPER NEEDS TO BE REMOVED. I WAS TICKETED AND HAD TO PAY THE FINE SINCE I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET A SHOP TO TAKE OFF THE BUMPER WITHIN THE 24 HOUR GRACE PERIOD ALLOTTED BY THE LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENT.
RANDOM LOSE OF ELECTRIC POWER STEERING, ON HIGHWAY AT FREEWAY SPEEDS.. THE STEERING WHEEL WILL LOCK AND CAUSE YOU TO BE UNABLE TO KEEP THE CAR IN CONTROL.. I'VE CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS AFTER BEING ADVISED THIS WAS AND IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND IN MOST CASES IS COVERED UNDER RECALLS AND EXTENDED COVERAGE. THEY SAID THIS VEHICLE WASN'T COVERED
