I'VE HAD THE RECALL DONE TO ( SUPPOSEDLY ) FIX THE ISSUE OF THE SERVICE ESC AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT FIXED , BUT IT JUST CAME BACK ON AGAIN . WHEN IT IS ON I HAVE NO BRAKE LIGHTS OR THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON . THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I'VE ALMOST BEEN IN A WRECK BECAUSE OF IT . ALSO I HAVE BEEN GETTING A LOT OF WATER IN MY PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR TO THE POINT I'VE TAKEN THE BACK SEAT OUT SO I CAN LIFT THE CARPET TO VACUUM IT OUT.
DRIVING THIS CAR LOSES ITS POWER STEERING. GM STATES MY CAR IS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL EVEN THOUGH THEY INSTALLED A DEFECTIVE SENSOR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN AND MOVED INDEPENDENTLY TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY FORCE TO THE STEERING WHEEL IN ORDER TO STEER THE VEHICLE AND KEEP IT IN POSITION AS THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE. "POWER STEERING, EPS NOT ENGAGED" WAS DISPLAYED ACROSS THE MESSAGE BOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 189,000.
POWER STEERING MSG COMES ON WHILE DRIVING. TOOK IN FOR REPAIR AND POWER STEERING TORQUE SENSOR NEEDS REPLACED. THIS IS LISTED FOR OTHER MALIBU YEARS BUT NOT 2009 THE REPAIR COST $575. THE VEHICLE IS NOT LISTED UNDER CURRENT RECALL BUT SUFFERED THE SAME PROBLEM. PROBLEM OCCURS WHILE DRIVING AND IS A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE AFFECTING OTHER MODEL YEARS. I WAS SENT A LETTER INFORMING ME OF A "SPECIAL WARRANTY" FROM GM AND TOLD TO TAKE THE LETTER TO THE REPAIRSHOP. THE DEALERSHIP SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE COVERED UNDER THE "SPECIAL WARRANTY LETTER" BECAUSE MY CAR IS OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY COVERAGE PARAMETERS!!
THE PASSENGER LOW BEAM LIGHT BURNS OUT FREQUENTLY. UPON FIXING THE CONNECTION WAS MELTED. THE STEERING BECOMES HARD TO TURN WHILE DRIVING SLOW OR SLOWING DOWN TO TURN.
FOR YEARS NOW I HAVE HAD A FEW ISSUES. ONE OF WHICH IS THE LOCKS WITH IN THE VEHICLE. AT ONE POINT ONE LOCK WOULDNT BE RECOGNIZED BY THE FOB OR INTERNAL LOCKING MECHANISM AND THEN EVENTUALLY ALL LOCKS WOULD BE UNRESPONSIVE. I NOW HAVE TO MANUALLY LOCK AND UNLOCK ALL DOORS. SECOND ISSUE IS THE 3RD BRAKE LIGHT. IT APPEARS THAT IT WANTS TO WORK WHEN IT FEELS LIKE IT. I TYPICALLY SEE IT WORKING IN EARLY MORNINGS WHEN ITS COLD, AND THEN EVENTUALLY IT DIMS OUT AND COMPLETELY STOPS WORKING. I HAVE NOTICED THIS IN OTHER MALIBU'S THAT I SEE DRIVING AND I HAVE READ ON MANY OTHER FORUMS THAT BOTH OF THESE ISSUES EXIST. I REALLY WISH THE MANUFACTURER WOULD ISSUE A RECALL FOR BOTH OF THESE. THIRD, IM ROUGHLY 200LBS SOAKING WET AND FOR WHATEVER REASON THE SEAT BRACKET THAT IS USED TO LIFT AND TILT HAS BROKE. MY DRIVER SEAT NOW LEANS TO ONE SIDE AND I CAN NO LONGER LIFT IT UP BECAUSE OF THIS.
UPON DRIVING AFTER A WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE AND THEN TO RESIDENTIAL DRIVING ..STEERING WHEEL "LOCKED UP " WHILE THE PANEL FLASHED "ESC " AND " POWER STEERING ".TURNED OFF CAR ...WAITED RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ..SHORTLY. ONCE AGAIN , IT REPEATED THE SAME PROBLEM AT A INTERSECTION , WHERE I NEARLY GOT HIT AND WAS UNABLE TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC NOR PULL TO THE SIDE. I HAD TO WAIT I TRAFFIC , AGAIN AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF. RESTARTED, BUT THIS TIME WAS ABLE TO GET HOME WITH MY SON IN HIS CAR SEAT IN THE BACK ..VERY SCARY FOR US.THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE , RECENTLY SEVERAL DAYS AGO AND PRIOR, BUT FIRST TIME WITH MY SON IN THE CAR. SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE WITH THE TEMPERATURES LOWERING.....
VEHICLE IN AIRPORT PARKING LOT AND TEMP WAS 29 DEGREES. STARTED VEHICLE AND PROCEEDED TO LEAVE PARKING LOT. POWER STEERING WARNING APPEARED ON DASH BOARD. CONTINUE DIVING ON INTERSTATE FOR NEXT 15 MINUTES TO REACH HOME. ABOUT A HALF MILE BEFORE REACHING HOME, SERVICE ESC APPEARED ON DASH. DID NOT LOSE CONTROL O VEHICLE AND VEHICLE HAS NO BEEN MOVED SINCE. NEW YEARS DAY 2016, NO DEALER SERVICE IS OPEN. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE MALIBU, HOWEVER MY VIN # DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE PART OF THE RECALL. WILL TAKE TO DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS.
ENGINE POWER REDUCED AND CAR CRANKS BUT WONT START. IT ALSO SLOWED DOWN WHEN THAT ENGINE POWER REDUCED CAME ON ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT AND MY FAMILY WAS IN THE CAR.
I INTERMITTENTLY LOSE POWER STEERING ON THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. THE INFORMATION DISPLAY FLASHES THAT THE POWER STEERING AND TRACTION CONTROL ARE DISABLED. THIS OCCURS BOTH WHEN STATIONARY AND WHILE MOVING. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM CHEVROLET IN REGARDS TO THIS PROBLEM AND WAS ADVISED BY THE LETTER TO TAKE IT IN TO THE DEALER IF THIS PROBLEM EXISTED. WHEN I TOOK IT IN TO HAVE THE REPAIR DONE, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT DOING IT AT THAT TIME AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I CALLED CHEVROLET CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. I WAS TOLD THAT BASICALLY I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL IT FAILED AGAIN AND HOPE THAT IT DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT BY THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE BEFORE THEY COULD DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT FLASHES AND THE SERVICE ESC LIGHT FLASHES IN THE DASH OF MY CAR. MY BRAKE LIGHT REMAIN ON AT ALL TIME, WHEN I MASH THE BRAKES NO BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON. THE BRAKE LIGHT IS DOING THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE DOING. THIS OCCURED MONTHS AFTER I HAD RECALL WORK DONE (AT A CERTIFIED GM DEALER) UNDER GM RECALL NUMBER 13036 AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V252000.
THERE IS SOMETHING FAULTY IN THE SYSTEM WHICH IS CAUSING THE BATTERY TO BECOME COMPLETELY DRAINED IF THE CAR SITS 2/3 DAYS WITHOUT BEING STARTED. I HAVE REPLACED MY 3 TIMES AND STILL SOMETHING IN THE CAR IS CONTINUING TO DRAIN THE BATTERY. THERE IS HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ALL OVER THE INTERNET THAT ARE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE. NOT EVEN THE DEALERSHIP COULD FIX THE ISSUE. I AM NOT PHYSICALLY LEAVING ANYTHING ON IN THE CAR BUT IT CONTINUES TO KEEP DYING. THIS IS DEFINITELY A DEFECT WITH THIS CAR THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED. MY CAR IS A 2009, AND IT HAS BEEN DYING 2011.
AS I WAS DRIVINGDOWN THE STREET, THE POWER STEERING/SERVICE ESC LIGHT AND MESSAGE CAME ON MY CAR. IT ALSO SAID ESC OFF. I GOT PULLED INTO A PARKUING LOT AND TURNED OFF MY CAR AND RESTARTED IT AND IT WORKED FOR A FEW MINUTES. AFTER WORK IT DID IT TO ME WHEN I STARTED IT. I KILLED IT AND RESTARTED IT AND JERKED THE STEERING WHEEL BACK AND FORTH AND IT WORKED FOR AROUND FIVE MINUTES. I HAVE READ ON MANY FORUMS THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH MANY YEARS OF THE MALIBU AND OTHER CARS. GM HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 100,000 MILES BUT MOST OF THEM ARE OVER THAT LIMIT. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM!!!!!
I WAS DRIVING THIS MORNING AND A "POWER STEERING" MESSAGE APPEARED ON MY DASH. FOR NOW, I DIDN'T FEEL ANY DIFFERENCE IN STEERING, BUT TO BE HONEST, IT'S BEEN ALWAYS A BIT HARD TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. IT IS GETTING COLDER IN MY STATE AND I AM WORRIED FOR MYSELF AND MY FAMILY TO DRIVE THIS CAR. I CALLED MY LOCAL GM DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID I AM NOT COVERED, HOWEVER IF I BRING MY CAR, THEY MIGHT COVER SOME EXPENSES. I ONLY HAVE 86.000 MILES ON MY CAR AND I DON'T SEE WHY IT SHOULDN'T BE FULLY COVERED BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO BE A NUMBER ONE ISSUE IN MALIBU CARS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FELDMAN CHEVROLET (2801 E MICHIGAN AVE, LANSING, MI), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WORK IN CONJUNCTION WITH NHTSA AND WOULD NEED ADDITIONAL COMPLAINTS IN ORDER TO ISSUE A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000.

DOOR LOCKS RANDOMLY ENGAGE AND DISENGAGE WHILE DRIVING THEY MAY UNLOCK MAY NOT UNLOCK WHEN CAR IS NOT IN MOTION THEN RANDOMLY THEY LOCK AND UNLOCK WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION CONSTANTLY AT SLOW SPEED LESS OFTEN DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING THEY ENGAGE AND DISENGAGE CONSTANTLY MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET INVOLVING THE SAME ISSUE ON THE SAME VEHICLE
WHEN HOOKED UP TO THE COMPUTER IT THREW THE CODE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE. THE CAR IS STUCK IN ONE GEAR, SOMETIMES IT IS 1ST GEAR SOMETIMES IT IS 5TH GEAR. YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU START THE CAR ANDEALERS TAKE OFF WHAT GEAR IT WILL BE IN.

TONIGHT I WENT TO START MY CAR UP TURNED THE HEATER ON THEN WENT BACK INSIDE CAME OUT AND WAS STEERING ITSELF BACK AND FORTH TURNED IT ON AND OFF AGAIN IT STOPPED BACKED UP AND PULLED FORWARD STARTED DOING IT AGAIN AND THEN IT STARTED TURNING REALLY HARD FROM LEFT TO RIGHT BY ITSELF
SIDE HEATED SEATS BURNED MY GIRLFRIENDS BACK AND PUT AHOLE IN THE SEAT SHE WAS DRIVING TO WORK.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR A MANUFACTURER RECALL CONCERNING NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V252000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, EXTERIOR LIGHTING, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE CONTACT WAS NOT EXPERIENCING ANY FAILURES BEFORE THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED BY THE DEALER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ESC AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS RANDOMLY ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER INDICATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT SENSOR SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
ON 11/07/15 MY MALIBU FAILED SMOG CHECK DUE TO P0013/P0014 CODES & LIQUID FUEL LEAK CHECK. TECHNICIAN SAID IT WAS OBVIOUSLY GAS LEAK & NEED TO FIX RIGHT AWAY. I DROVE & LEFT IT TO MY MECHANIC SHOP THE SAME DAY (SATURDAY PM). HE SAID TRACE OF FUEL LEAK IS COMING FROM TOP OF TANK, AND HE TOOK DOWN THE TANK TO CHECK FUEL LINE AND PUMP.I CALLED GM TO FIND OUT SAFETY RECALL ON MY MALIBU & ALSO ASKED HIM FOR HELP TO LOCATE THE LEAK AS THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE SIMILAR TO OTHER GM CARS. GM SAID MY MALIBU IS NOT UNDER FUEL LEAK RECALL LIKE SOME OTHER GM CARS AND HE DIDN'T KNOW EASY WAY TO LOCATE GAS LEAK,BUT OFFERED ME FREE TOW TO GM DEALERSHIP. I TOLD GM MY MALIBU IS INSIDE MY MECHANIC SHOP AND HE ALREADY WORKING ON IT SO I CAN'T TOW IT OUT FROM HIS SHOP.MY MECHANIC REPLACED THE WHOLE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY (LEAK WAS FROM PLASTIC LINE CONNECTION TO FUEL PUMP) AND REPAIRED ALSO THE OTHER CODES.I CALLED BACK GM AND DISCUSSED TO HER([XXX])THE SAFETY ISSUE OF PRESENCE OF GAS LEAK CAN CAUSE AN EXPLOSION EVEN IN MINOR ACCIDENT,OR EVEN JUST PARK INSIDE MY GARAGE, THE ACCUMULATION OF GAS VAPOR CAN RESULT IN EXPLOSION SINCE MY GAS FURNACE IN THE GARAGE WHICH IS JUST NEARBY THE CAR, IS ALWAYS BEING USED AT NIGHT. SHE SAID NOTHING GM CAN DO SINCE THE CAR WAS ALREADY REPAIRED AND GM CAN'T REIMBURSE MY REPAIR COST SINCE MY MALIBU IS OUT OF WARRANTY ALREADY. UNDER RECALL OR NOT, UNDER WARRANTY OR NOT I THINK A RESPONSIBLE COMPANY SHOULD AT LEASE INVESTIGATE THE CAUSE OF GAS LEAK IN CAR TO FIND OUT THE PROBLEM AND CORRECTED IT, IMPROVED THE MATERIALS OR DESIGN IN THEIR FUTURE CARS.THEY DON'T HAVE TO WAIT TO FIND OUT THAT LIVES WERE LOST DUE TO GAS LEAK DEFECT THAT COULD HAVE BEEN CORRECTED SOONER. THE CENTER HIGH MOUNT STOP LIGHT WORKS AND THEN DOES NOT WORK AT TIMES. DEALER SAID 3 THIRD BRAKE LIGHT NEEDS REPLACED. LED BULB DOES LIGHT AT TIMES SO ITS NOT IN THE LED BUT SOMETHING UP IN LIGHT ASSEMBLY .

THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V460000 (POWER TRAIN). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SHIFT CABLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I HAVE CRACKED EXHAUST MANIFOLD. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE TO GET IT REPLACED AT THE DEALERSHIP. THIS TIME THE PART ONLY LASTED 18 MONTHS. EXHAUST GASES ARE COMING INTO THE INTERIOR COMPARTMENT OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE CONTACTED CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT HAPPENS TO OTHER SIMILAR VEHICLES.
THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO ILLUMINATE WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING PUSHED; THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE PEDAL IS PUSHED; DIFFICULTY DISENGAGING THE CRUISE CONTROL; AND DISABLEMENT OF CRASH AVOIDANCE FEATURES SUCH AS TRACTION CONTROL, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, AND PANIC BRAKING ASSIST FEATURES. THIS OCCURS AFTER WE HAVE HAD THE WORK DONE THAT WAS FOR GM RECALL NUMBER 13036/NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V252000 MULTIPLE TIMES.
POWER STEERING ,TRACTION LIGHT, ENGINE POWER DOWN ALL COME ON AND CAR SHUT DOWN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN INDEPENDENTLY AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A WAVE PLATE WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION HAD DISINTEGRATED. AS A RESULT, THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,500.
DRIVING AT 65 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE AND ESC LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AND SECURITY LIGHT CAME ON. THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE AND THE FUEL GUAGE NEEDLE STARTED JUMPING SPORADICALLY AND THEN I LOST POWER FOR A MOMENT AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE. HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED, AND IT HAPPENED NUMEROUS MORE TIMES. HAD TO END UP HAVING IT TOWED. IT IS IN THE SHOP NOW, AND THEY HAVEN'T DETERMINED WHAT IS WRONG YET.
OCTOBER 23, 2015, MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE 2009 MALIBU TO WORK WHEN, ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT. SHE WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STOPPED. SHE TRIED TO GO FORWARD AND THE CAR STAYED IN FIRST GEAR. SHE STOPPED TRIED TO BACK UP AND IT WOULD NOT GO. SHE CALLED ME AND, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR HOME SLOWLY IN FIRST GEAR. WE KNEW THE WARRANTY WAS DONE AS OF THE 5 YEARS BUT ONLY HAD 65,000 MILES ON IT. SO, AFTER READING ON LINE ABOUT DEALERSHIPS USING USED PARTS TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION, WE CHOSE ATLAS TRANSMISSION TO DO THE WORK. WE WERE TOLD THE WAVE PLATE BROKE BASICALLY TAKING OUT THE TRANS AND NEEDED A NEW TRANS. $2808 LATER WE HAD THE CAR FIXED. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET ANF GM ABOUT THIS SINCE I READ THE COVERAGE ON THE 6 SPEED AUTOMATIC WAS EXTENDED TO 10 YEARS OR 120,000 MILES. I WAS TOLD MY CAR WAS NOT IN THAT RECALL AND THEY COULDNT DO ANYTHING TO HELP ME SINCE IT WAS A GOVERNMENT MANDATED COVERAGE BECAUSE IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. REALLY?-- MY WIFE BREAKING DOWN IN TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE? --REALLY?-- I AM VERY DISSAPPOINTED IN CHEVROLET AND GENERAL MOTORS. ONE OCTOBER 5, 2015 OWNER WAS DRIVING AT OR AROUND 35MPH WHEN THE VEHICLES, ESC, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AND BRAKE DASHBOARD ICONS CAME ON. THEN CAR THEN LOST ENGINE POWER, AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. OWNER THEN CRUISED THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WHERE TURNED THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION AND THEN TRIED TO RESTART IT. OWNER TRIED TURNING THE KEY TO RESTART THE VEHICLE MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF 15 MINUTES AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. FINALLY, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND THE OWNER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE OFF THE FREEWAY AND CONTACTED THE GM CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER TO REPORT THE INCIDENT.

THE CAR IS MAKING A CLAPPING NOISE AND SPEED IS IMPEDED.
